RDNA2 cards are like magic. They work universally across all platforms. Windows, Linux, BSD, Android, macOS.

They also support AMD HIP which is basically CUDA but not vendor locked.

Problems that Linux is plagued with, from a guy that has used the three big OSes.

• Backwards compatibility doesn't exist
• Desktop program support is paltry compared to Win/Mac
• Installing software is confusing (I'll elaborate)
• It's so fragmented it makes Yugoslavia look united

Less personal problems:

• Only KDE does hiDPI fractional scaling
• No HDR support, not just for media consumption but also media creation
• Nvidia just doesn't want to cooperate

When it comes to installing software on Win/Mac, you just search XYZ online, download and run the installer. Done.

When it comes to installing software on Linux.... Here's what you need to take into mind:

• Which distro are you using? Different distros have different sets of software/binary compatibility.
• Which point release version is your distro using? Sometimes the software is named differently between each distro versions' repos.
• How close to upstream are the repositories? Some distros can take weeks to update their repos.
• What repositories are you using? Sometimes you are given just the bare official essentials that may not have what you want so you need to enable 3rd party or community repos.
• Did the package maintainers do any modifications to the software you want to install?
• What package manager does the distro use? Better get familiar with the command line terminologies.
• What about universal package managers like Snap and Flatpak? Did you know that Ubuntu secretly installs Snap packages disguised as regular Debian packages?

Linux as an os rather than a kernel, it's fragmentation is it's greatest strength AND it's greatest weakness. All the infighting, all the different ways of doing the same thing, the constantly having to worry about if something will "just work" not just on your distro, but on that version of your distro
