It really depends on the use case. For example, I use a raspberry pi for DNS. It’s absolutely terrible for video streaming. And although it can host files in a network share, it’ll be very slow and just not worth it for me in general. I needed a pihole DNS server and found the rPi could fit that role well and with minimal power-draw for 24/7 operation.

I used an old P3 for a game server and file server back in like 09. It will work for lighter use. But even back then it was getting aged enough that it was only used for my clans backup server to game on when the main server was full. At that time I ran a Halo CE clan on PC and we ran a 16 player public server plus an 8 player private Scrim server on an P4, and then I ran a smaller 12 player public backup server with different mat/game mode rotation on the Pentium 3. It was not able to reliably handle a full 16 player game, did OK with 12, and fine with 8.

On AGP the best cards you can run would be either the HD3850 or HD 4670 (? not sure on the 4k part number, might be a higher one). The 3k is technically the better, having faster VRAM, but the 4k may or may not have slightly better video decode at this point, cant remeber anymore tbh. But I do know I still have a 3850 to use in any AGP legacy builds I can make 😉
