GTA V's development started 12-15 years ago, and was aimed at hardware that is now 10 years old... i would guess that its modern hardware that has outpaced the engine and the engines ability to run properly, rather than GTA preferring an igpu... the basic stuff that an igpu supports, that would likely get dropped from newer bigger better hardware, is the sort of stuff that gta requires. DX9/10 stuff is super old now and similar to intel, a lot of the API calls are now done through the DX9on12 layer in windows

its not worth upgrading from a 3080 to the 4000 series or the 7000 series at all really... unless you are looking at 4k 120 or 8k 60... and both are wasteful anyway, so, unless your 3080 explodes, dont waste the money

if you put a lot of sideways strain on the connectors for the 4090, they dont make a proper connection on some of the pins, and you get arcing and melting.. just dont be OCD about your cable management and you will be fine

i was gaming yesterday, while transcoding 4k h264 video to 4k h265 on my gpu at the same time, didnt even lose a single frame 🙂

when i stopped gaming, GPU clock dropped down to less than 200mhz, while still transcoding

codec0 and codec1 engines were maxed out on the gpu though, so yeah... completely different now

I’m guessing they have made improvements to the quality and compression of the encode as well? Although fine for streaming, I just can’t recommend for static video files. Instead I rely on CPU encoding.

Pretty much. It has optimizations and a few new tricks, but should work reasonably fine unless the game governs its speed by the system clock.

For example, Sim Copter. I have to run a program that tied up ~85% of my CPU or it’s unplayable.
