I have realised at this point that I'm better off doing that, and doing it right from the start. Using connectors and cables that are rated for the task, pluggable componentry etc. for example the MSI RGB controller sucks absolute balls, so I replaced the LEDs on my IO shroud with a strip and ran it to my RGB controller (which is an arduino pretending to be a corsair lighting node pro).

mostly i'm shying from it. cuz. my need for high power comes from wanting to go dual 3090 (or 3090ti).

since the pcie slot itself supplies up to 75w. if mobo is powered by PSU 1.

and gpu's are powered by PSU 2 (through the 6+2 pcie cables).

then any inconsistencies in voltage output from PSU 1 to PSU 2 should be a stability issue, and a durability issue.

although talking to a few people they say its not really an issue. so... i dunno if its just they didn't test it themselves and are telling me hearsay, or if they really did daily drive such a setup and didn't have issues.

the only way around that issue, would be to plug each GPU into a powered riser also powered off PSU2, like miners do. but all those risers are miner grade, and wouldn't really work for a GPU being used as a GPU.

yeah it's not an issue - the voltage is all regulated, basically nothing uses the raw 12V

Most video cards draw SFA from the slot - it uses that power to run basic stuff, and gets most of the power from the 12V pins, because on a lot of (mostly older) boards if you ACTUALLY drew 75W, it would burn out the traces.

i figured, if i can fine some rare elusive EVGA Powerlink 41s's (and i can get the 3090ti's) since those have voltage regulation, it might help. (probably not but a guy can hope)

although i've not found much info on their voltage regulation. and i assume it probably is only regulating the power coming in from the 6+2 pcie cables.

it could theoretically be possible that they have the thing monitoring the power coming in via the pcie slot side too... but.... i mean... do you have that much faith in any manufactures firmware to be that forward thinking?
