You can line up the edges with your hands, staple them together (or clamp them if you don't have a staple gun) and then just drill in with the countersink and then impact drive the screw in. If you're not using a countersink, you don't even need to drill. You can just impact drive the screw straight in.

impact driving is something i've never done. my understanding was that you only really need an impact driver instead of a drill for masonry...was i mistaken?

An impact driver just sinks the screw much better because the threads of the screw will be pushed into always gripping the wood. With a drill, you run the risk of "spinning out" the screw, where it just spins in place and can't pull itself in any further. This happens quite a bit in plywood, even up to cabinet grade. That's why I recommend the impact driver, specifically.

If you don't have an impact driver, you don't need to go out and buy one just for this. But it is extremely useful to have around.

Even the black and white HART brand from Walmart will do just fine, and I'm pretty sure they're only about 40 bucks and last a long time.
