From what I've gathered, anyone who's played a lot of older zeldas didn't like botw. Anyone who never played the past ones (myself included) LOVE botw. At this point, the older ones are too hard to overcome the clunky gameplay/graphics for most people, so yeah it really do be dying.

I didn't really even know what the plot/storyline of BotW was aside from "activate the temple things and fight scary guy in castle". Until a zelda-veteran buddy explained it's entirely the flashbacks and photos... while the older games apparently had LOT more going on plot-wise

I was too distracted with the exploration, which was mind blowing to me

Yeah, a fairly colossal amount more...I have the giant encyclopedia that explains all of it even. But that's not the part I miss. Zelda games have this fairly unique gameplay mechanic based around items. Each item you get has you use it extensively throughout a dungeon to get a feel for it, and then you can return to older areas with it to do more.

The best example of this is Twilight Princess, if you're ever able to play it. You get to the last dungeon and unlock the double clawshots which let you grapple from place to place, and then you use it in the "overworld" and there are hundreds of puzzles that make use of your suite of items.

The puzzle side of things was also much more important. Check out the Sand Rod puzzles from Spirit Tracks, or some of the Temple puzzles from Phantom Hourglass. The Oracle of Ages game was built all around puzzles and the Oracle of Seasons game was puzzle/combat hybrid based on changing the season of the year you were in. The puzzles were REALLY good compared to shrines.

Zelda was basically it's own genre that fused MetroidVania mechanics with 3D action RPGs like Witcher, for example.

The DLC dungeon of BotW was the closest I came to feeling that level of puzzle challenge with BotW...otherwise, I just walked right through most of it

If you're ever feeling adventurous, you could try out Twilight Princess HD. It's probably the least clunky 3D Zelda. And if you want to try out the 2D ones, Link Between Worlds is solid by modern standards.

But yeah, I don't envy anyone trying to jump in to Ocarina of Time (1998) in 2022.

Twilight Princess was my personal favorite. I feel that it had one of the stronger stories, some of the best dungeons, and really unique items. But there are 3D Zeldas and there are 2D Zeldas...I'm trying to think of the ones that would play well on emulation, since some of them relied 100% on the current Nintendo hardware gimmick...no idea how Spirit Tracks and Phantom Hourglass would play outside of a Nintendo DS for instance.

That being said, give Twilight Princess, Link Between Worlds, and Oracle of Ages a try. I feel like those three are probably the best you can get without going into the clunky days.

Skyward Sword was fun too, but you need Wii Motion Plus. The new release of it has button controls, but I can't speak for how well those translate for a game literally designed around the motion controls.

I trust mainly digital now. It’s easy to copy and backup. Takes less space. Region free. And little chance of mold or data loss if you practice proper backups

If I wanted to fully wipe my system just to start off new can I unplug my HDD (D drive) after uninstalling every software that I use and games and replug it after fully reinstalling windows on my C drive? I want to start off on a clean slate but not lose my data

It's a GUI for performing dozens of registry edits all at once, with a toggle, description, and recommendation for each one. Creates a system restore point before applying just in case. I think every windows user should have this installed, it's a gem.

I would think storage is probably the main effector in that tbh. The steam deck base model lacks an ssd and windows likes to read and write a ton. So if the next or air have an ssd it'd be better. Or the steam decks with ssds.

It's more for getting rid of the annoying aspects of windows like cortana, ads, and also the telemetry if you're not into that. It does a LOT.

I agree with you completely. That person was just installing windows fresh. I have no idea what their comfortability level is with terminal, and maybe they don't know the full list of software they want, so I recommended ninite. Of course the terminal is easier, but it's also a blank slate and intimidating to some.

It's just linux. You can add any non-steam software to the SteamOS library. I have discord and spotify there. It lets you run multiple "games" at once, so I had music & discord voice chat running while playing Apex with friends.

Apple had a chance to keep me in the ecosystem after giving it a shot, but with a bunch of tiny bugs and small but infuriating details I’d love to go back to android.
