It's not generally advised to simply throw it in the trash because if ends up in a landfill the battery acid will eventually leak into the soil and therefore groundwater but depending on your area you might not have many options

first I put the leaking battery in a plastic cup, then I poured in baking soda covering the entirety of the leaking battery, and then I put the solution into a plastic bag twisting it around so it’s tighter at the bottom of the bag and using rubber bands to hold it in place then I added it into another plastic bag and finally put it the plastic bags into the container again and put two layers of Saran wrap and in between the two layers I added a note that reads “battery ACID”…

hopefully I don’t accidentally spill it…

Normally it wouldn't be an issue, but because the focus is fixed, the aperture of the lenses has to be relatively small which increases depth of field (how much of the scene on different planes is in focus), which also causes less light to be captured.
