Oh to not live in Australia
I was wondering how long this channel would go before anyone broken the silence
It was beautiful
Missed opportunity to call the sticker a hELImet
alright, nz instead :3
now if you want to go to vancouver it costs even more, and you still have to go through australia
Nerds
nerds

You definitely don't need to go through Australia
You can get a return trip, AKL to YVR direct on an airnz 777 for $2222
yeah if you're going from auckland you don't have to
last time i checked where i live the cheapest option though was queenstown-sydney-vancouver
Our connecting flights aren't expensive. Add a little extra to go from anywhere else in nz
Or apparently they don't even charge more for some, CHC to YVR via AKL is the same price
yeah or $1810 dud-yvr via christchurch and nadi is the cheapest i'm seeing
which is not a path i would normally have thought to take
imo flying anything other than airnz across the Pacific ain't worth it
i'm the kind who would take jetstar if it meant saving $20
when going between auckland and dunedin i'll usually go via wellington to save about $10 as well
Flying international is nothing like flying domestic
i will admit the longest i've flown is just past 12 hours, i haven't been trans-pacific
but even then, i just don't really care, i get on the plane and sort of just lock out until i land
i think being short helps make it much less uncomfortable as well though
I would go but I live in the USA and I'm in college so not only would I not have time to, but it would also be expensive due to the price for a plane ticket, I might someday go but definitely not anytime soon
Also I don't have citizenship in Canada anyway

you don't need citizenship to enter for 48 hours lol
The eTA allows you to stay for 6 months
ive done 16 hours, big no from me, beirut - abu dhabi - malaysia - sydney
Am I alive if i blink?
i blinkn't therefore i amn't
Saw the crypto stuff ?
I'm bringing my Amiga 1000 and nobody can stop me
aww dangit is it AMD64 only
I bring a message to our sponsors makeLinusTALL.com
Oh to not be poor
Fish isnt always blue
I suggest getting Global Entry for the return trip to the USA. its basically Pre-Check for customs
Is usa best country?
It’s a USA based program/benefit. Not sure how it works for other countries
Can I be American and work 80 hour a week for a 1 room apartment?
If you live above your means, sure
So what is realistic?
I mean, if you can afford the $5K for whale lan but not rent, that’s on you
Im atlest 15000km away from it
tf is this channel for
For whalelan, the in person lan party event that LMG hosts at the badminton center
i don't understand that, i would have thought the processes involved are the processes involved and they just take a certain amount of time
i haven't been to the americas though
whales with lan connection

Bc of seasalt
I've got an idea for the LTT staff - bring Whale LAN to the United States. You could start in Alaska or Washington, since they're both closer to Vancouver.
Maybe do a test market first - if it works out, expand. If not, stay in Canada.
I mean, it'll probably never happen, but a man can dream, can't he?
nah they should do a whale lan in the faroes surrounded by real whales
The entire point is that they have their own building for it
It ain't happening anywhere else
you could start in Alaska or Washington
Or people could just drive to Vancouver because it ain't that far
Nono, even better: EUrope! 🇪🇺

Or go to one of the 6 LAN parties a year already in WA
⏫
Love people saying bring the lan to Washington instead of you bringing your ass to Vancouver. How selfishly ignorant can you be to avoid like a 3 hour drive ?
they should do it in white rock wa to annoy both
nvm white rock is still in canada
blaine wa
Nah Point Roberts
So the Canadians have to go into the US and the Americans have to go into Canada and back into the US
nah nah nah they should do it on st pierre so both have to go to france
If that happened, I would fly lol
Way less room for me to take stuff but I would do it out of spite
i don't think there's an airport there lol
you could sail though
or i guess you might be able to fly a floatplane
i appreciate that my keyboard autocorrects floatplane to floatplane.com
There is an airport, it just doesn't have any commercial service.
oh so there is
I want a refund the square lake is a lie
Not only is it not a square, none of the corners are right angles
nor are any of the edges straight
The ocean view villa is also lake view not ocean
I have seen worse
square lake trail n is also south of the "square" lake
Something tells me that Whale Lan will be the largest concentration of Razer Boomslang 20th Anniversary Edition mice in the wild.
and power mac g4 sleeper builds
It is a long drive to be fair but LTT is based in Vancouver so it's only right it's hosted there. It's not like we talking about Los Angeles....it's freaking Washington State lol
Hey guys. I will be driving into Canada from Seattle for the first time to attend WhaleLan. Is the "Letter of Invitation" listed on the WhaleLan site something that US Citizens are required to fill out to cross the border? I looked at the Canadian government site and it doesn't seem like I'll need the invitation letter if I have my passport, but just making sure.
I think the letter of invitation is more of a formal "this might sound weird, but here's why I'm visiting Canada for 2-3 days, border patrol officer..." thing. It's not an official document in our border patrol's eyes, and even with it people could get turned away. Luckily, I've heard lots of stories about border patrol folks in BC being aware of LTT so hopefully you speak to someone who knows.
I didn't need it when I went last time. Just had my enhanced ID and told them my reason for visiting, when I'd be leaving etc
"enhanced id" wasn't something i ever expected to hear
It requires extra documentation to apply for and can be used to cross Canadian/Mexican/Caribbean land and sea borders.
thanks for the info
Np! I'll be there as well this weekend
so like a passport but less useful ?
Pretty much. It's a form of driver's license/state ID.
ah
yeah iirc you can travel to australia on a new zealand driver's license on a technicality but the airlines make you bring a passport anyway, and everywhere else you need a passport from here
I have another dumb LAN question. Is it recommended to bring a surge protector to plug into the provided outlets or should PC and monitor plug into provided outlets directly? Some other LANs I have been to suggest a surge protector.
Less dumb question. Do people sell/trade hardware at WhaleLAN. I have a 32GB kit of DDR5 and also some older kits of DDR4, some old PSUs and a 5600x cpu I’d like to sell off if anyone interested. I’m flying in though so I can’t just bring everything.
I mean there's no reason you couldn't but there's also no reason you need to
Ok, I'll just leave it. Lighter bag for me.
Never mind. I’m now bringing half these parts so my buddy can put together a build at the LAN. 😂
Way too sick to make it :c
whats the fairest way to give away my ticket?
I was depressed enough already, whoever pinged this channel is a monster... 😭😭😭
(one day..... one day...)
Any details on events like 8v8 and PC case swap starting?
this channel keeps being marked as unread for me
I have my portable desktop pc waiting to be pat tested in the hospital. Pics to follow!
interesting
The timing is tight with Computex like a week after 😄 totally had the same thought as Luke about it.
is there another whale lan coming? Anyone selling their seat?
nevermind i see seats available!
wow great timing i was already hoping to be in vancouver for may30th weekend for riftbound
Catch me, if you can 😈
Bro is a whole ahh killer whale
Anyone know of any gaming PC / laptop rental services in Vancouver?
I’ll be flying in from Québec and can’t bring my PC tower 🫡🫡
i think some shops in the area do a 30 day return policy
How have people traveled with their gear? Thinking about going but I might only feel comfortable bringing my gear that travels well.

Are there people planning to traveling from Los Angeles Area to Whale LAN in May?
Or has anyone done it before? How was your experience?
I haven't done this exact trip, but did travel from Vancouver, Canada through Washington down the Oregon Coast a couple years ago. Furthest south we went was North Bend / Riddle, OR. The time consuming part of the trip was planning our overnight stays, otherwise travelling itself was simpler than expected, and that's with us driving an EV.
If you plan beforehand, driving from LA, California to Vancouver, BC should be a piece of cake.
early WAN tomorrow
Someone clicked on the wrong channel
I did the math, If I drive from LA over to Vancouver, BCI need 40hr/ realistically 3-4 days straight driving for round trip ... not worth it, I think I will take the plane over
I will Prob plan a 4 days trip rent a car/ev when the whale lan is over
Omg… I was like why did no one reply and then why did I not see it in the wan chat lol
<@&750150305383186585>
Has anyone brought a Minecraft server to the LAN party before?
There have definitely been MC servers at Whale LANs in the past
<@&750150305383186585> scam here too
For people who been to Whale Lan, is it worth it to fly from Los Angeles Area to the event and have a few days trip in May? What are some fun experience/goods that is not available here in the state?
vancouver being just an awesome place
I am sure the view is nice, but is there some experiece or goods I can get that is not available near LA?
you could ride a floatplane lol
Science world I suppose (bit of a drive)
Lots of lakes in the area and mild weather ahead
Just steer clear of surrey and downtown east side
Be warned the transit here is awful
I thought the public transport is much better compared to LA?
Is it like a science museum?
Hour between some busses, don't extend outside the cities usually, I've personally been assaulted on one
Yes, it's a big dome on the waterfront
I like it
Sounds like my experience with LA metro…
You could
I think it's like 150 a day
If you're staying in Vancouver and only going to whale lan you could Uber for that
It's not so much a landmark but Willow video (featured a few times) is easily accessible by the Fraser highway
They're everywhere here lol
Charging not quite fully
lol I already drove a Tesla here
Check around tho when here, there's a lot kinda hiding around and my memory is kinda crap lol
Do have a fun time, if you get the chance go see our capital Victoria (by ferry)
I planned to have a full week trip, should be able to get there
It's also pretty easy to hop to other cities on Vancouver Island. I'm only vaguely familiar with the Victoria area, but if you find yourself heading up island and want pointers, feel free to DM me.
Also, I put together a Choose Your Own Adventure thingy ~4 years ago.
NOTE: all driving times are based on driving from Nanaimo.
https://sway.cloud.microsoft/aD7T2VUYLQ4lZtyy?ref=Link
Like Sidney? I am checking it out rn, thanks
You'll hit Sidney before Victoria. Traffic in Victoria isn't that bad, but it can absolutely make or break your ability to travel eleswhere if you're not booking somewhere to stay for a couple days on the Island.
If you're just hopping over for the day, stick to the Victoria area. But if you can book a couple nights on the Island (highly recommend, time / budget permitting), I'd book in Nanaimo so you can explore North or South easily.
Sidney is beautiful
SLAPS ISLAND this Island can hold so many neat adventure locations to explore.
Don't slap it too hard
"Batten down the hatches, secure your cupboards - they're slapping the island again!"
Fly? No fly, only drive!
No way I am driving 22 hr one way from LA to Vancouver💀
Sorry I have J*b
Easy: just use all your vacation time like I did when I drove from Vancouver Island all the way down the Oregon coast to Riddle and North Bend during a week long roadtrip.
I mean it is posible but 4 hr drive from LA to Las Vagas is already killing me
I hear ya. I'm mostly only memeing. I once drove from Langley, BC to Edmonton, Alberta. Longest 12+ hour drive of my life. 9/10 doctors would not recommend doing it in one go again.
Also I noticed no workshop like keyboard building, etc
Just notice Schdule is out
I don't see tech plane showcase on there
I only played 3 game from this whole schedule before, now I am low key hesitant :/
Imma wait for the November one
May I know your reasoning?
My birthday lines up with it
And easier to book childcare
It's really close to me, and I despise the heat so winter would be better
And I kinda want to do something custom for it
But rn I'm making a few period correct UV gaming PCs
Linus will fly the jet into smash champs at a random time of the day, it'll be a surprise
these islands have very interesting history
Ah yes, the Pig Wars started by colonizing pigs themselves. I much prefer to think these islands still belong to the Coast Salish people.
I have applied for volunteer, how long will it take to be approved for it?
@pastel oasis Same here. I'd like to know
I'd love to take part in the UT2004 8v8
I assume we're not allowed to bring a desktop with a monitor and also set up a laptop next to it?
i would imagine you get the desk space you paid for and can within reason do what you like with it
