#how does lap breaking work?

brakes on the F40PH are known as "manual lap brakes" basically you control the brakes manually
by putting the brakes in lap, it holds the brake at whatever the EQ is currently at
by putting it in service it reduces the EQ pressure
and finally in release you put the EQ at the running pressure (passenger trains are 110PSI)
You also have a hold position which recharges the brakes but doesn't release the brake cylinder
EQ is like a break pressure thingy?
EQ is the target pressure for your brakes, the BP is the actual brake pressure
ah
between lap and hold. does it make any differences?
cuz i just see them as both funciton holding the break pressure
hold will set the EQ to the running pressure but will not release the brakes on the cars
lap will hold the EQ at whatever it currently is
no
it holds whatever brake set you have on the cars and engine, while releasing the brake pipe (BP)
wait so would i be wrong if i do
While running -> Service breaking -> hold breaking to a stop?
or
While running -> service breaking -> lap breaking?
to come to a stop, go from running to service, then when you have enough of a brake application taken switch to lap
so in a regular breaking like changing speed do you use hold or lap breaking
lap, hold is when you're about to leave a station
ooooh- is that only when hold is used?
did you cut the brakes in and set the MU-2A valve?
uhhhh where do i see
that
cuz i have no idea
i never driven a US loco before
oh wait i found the MU-2A valve thingy
its set a dead or lead
it said in
i was driving at like 110mph before i came to a stop and stall and cant start again
No matter do i set it as in or out, train still aint moving
okay i dont know what i did
i set the cut in valve to out
restarted the entire loco
and then it moves again
Your locomotive is probably off
A common mistake is moving the throttle to STOP instead of IDLE
Which is very easy to do if you yank the throttle lever all the way forward or if you hold down the throttle down key.
I think that's what happened given that there's no smoke coming out of the exhaust in your screenshot
It was cuz I didn’t hear any engine sounds. Or I at least I tried to restart the engine completely
That is actually ingame?
Yes
