Other train traffic?

I'm pretty new to this game and I've only played a few UK and DE routes and timetables so far, but I find that they're pretty boring if every signal I go by is green. I have no idea if that's true to life, but I was wondering if it's possible to add other trains to the lines in some way so that I get a different signal aspect every once in a while to add some excitement and the need for vigilance.

Related question, are there groups that do realistic multiplayer games with the possibility to actually contact the signaler and coordinate routes?

TSW has no multiplayer support at all so answer to Q2 is definitely a no

as for other trains, in timetable mode there are many AI trains running alongside you, but the way the game is set up means random incidents cannot be simulated so every run would be green all the way unfortunately

an incident-free run is definitely not true to life, since IRL you would have delays galore, track work, inclement weather that actually affects services, broken signals etc etc

but its a game and unfortunately it has its limitations
