I probably will too tbh, probably a nice idea to loosen my restrictions when it comes to planes we're just not getting... like with the MD-11 I will still only fly CF6 ones until we get PWs, but for example with the A310-200 and PW-powered A310s, I might just use our CF6 A310-300 anyway...
Cause like, with the A310... we're not getting other variants, that's certain. With the L-1011, unless it proves very successful and after release ini say "Hey we're doing more", we're not getting other variants either.

If you are flying in a completely straight line from VOR A to VOR B, then being on radial 300 for VOR A will put you on radial 120 for VOR B, until you fly over VOR B and end up back on 300 again.
That's why the directional indicator does a 180 when you pass over it

If you do actually want to learn radio navigation, a high speed piston ga would be a great place to start, something like the bonanza, baron, aerostar or Cessna 310. Because they're flying at a lower speed (but still reasonably fast) you have a lot more time to catch and correct mistakes without getting task saturated, then all those radio navigation skills carry directly into larger /a and /w aircraft like the f28 or 722

it's not my priority right now, like i said, anything post 1980 is going to have some sort of RNAV navigation (depending on airline i guess, but broadly by model at least), and i really don't fly anything earlier than that so im not that worried
like the FSS 727, you can fly it with VOR only, but the GNS-XLS is a good balance between still being "retro" and still being RNAV capable

That's part of why I prefer a yoke and Boeing/MD throttles too - you can tell what the plane's doing by movement in the cockpit
Some people say this movement isn't noticeable anyway unless you specifically watch it, but I will say I do often notice it while doing other tasks, especially the throttles

What breaks x-plane is plugins. A bit like msfs community folder. First thing to do if you have problems is remove them. Just disabling doesnt always work. No need to delete them, just move them out of the folder is fine. XP 11 is still officially supported by laminar, they support the current version plus the previous one. But addon makers mostly dont update anything for 11 as there is no need because its a static sim no longer being updated. XP12 is far superior in comparison, but you still need a beefy pc for it. The latest beta is helping with multithreading, but that only helps if you are cpu limited.

You just needed to do a bit of jiggery-pokery with heading mode whenever LNAV struggled to follow the route

Its spot on. Absolutely no need for addons. The best thing about it compared to msfs is if one thing in the weather is stopping you. You can just untick real weather and nothing changes. So you just manually change whatever it was that was stopping you
Due to the cone of confusion it is very much recommended to be in heading mode when using VOR nav
Also the Flyjsim 732 should be coming to 12 but dont hold your breath, the dev has health problems. He has said no chance for the 727, but we have the FSS one for that for those of us that have more than one flightsim installed

It still feels very rough around the edges in terms of automation and systems (the F/D is VERY much hit ot miss, a lot of the times it's wayyyy to aggressive, so I sort of treat it as a "suggestion")
A/P and A/T are the same
For example I very often override A/T manually because it starts doing stupid stuff because it's like 1kt below the speed so I guess it's time to go TOGA
A/P can be the same too. They definitely need to tune it
but overall it's flyable and the VNAV helps to reduce workload
I quite like how it hand flies though
nothing special, it's no iFly or Leonardo Maddog, but it's somewhat unique and feels good enough

I did a couple group flights with a friend of mine, we did Boston - London with a few minutes of separation (me in a 777, him in an A380), then London to Dubai the same way, and most recently we did a full milk run of Seattle - Ketchikan - Wrangell - Petersburg - Juneau - Anchorage where I was a few minutes ahead the whole run (that was intentional as I've flown in that area much more than him)

thankfully x-civa is insanely cheap, i think its like 25 rewards points on store.xplane, so if you make 1 purchase you automatically get it essentially
XP11 to XP12 has the same issue as P3Dv5 to P3Dv6, most stuff works between versions unless stated otherwise, but nothing actually advertises that its compatible, so it's just all guesswork and trial and error

I forgot that you had to set an altitude higher than your current altitude to enter a vertical speed RNAV approach, and by the time I remembered that it was too late, so I just nosedived towards the runway, touched down halfway at 20kts faster than I should have, and just blew right over the threshold at like 100kts
I’m a little pissed that it was a 3 hour flight that I screwed up on approach, but I at least know what happened and how to fix it

You can set a hat to move your views, but headtracking is vastly superior (I cant fly without it now) You can also use any modifier key either with kb or controller.
Also the beta will only help if you are CPU limited
I also just discovered you can set a toggle switch so rudder input controls the tiller on the ground for airliner stuff
