#Flight Sims (MSFS, P3D, X-Plane, DCS, FS98...)
1 messages · Page 33 of 1
Yeah it does iirc
it also has charts, which is great since Navigraph sometimes doesn't
especially for the more remote airports
Oh yeah
Tbh I don’t have Navigraph
Usually use chartfox
But it sometimes doesn’t have stuff either
that's fair enough, I mostly have it just because of the convenience and because I got so used to it
Discord compression didn't totally kill it yay
im not getting the MD-80
horrible takeoff, horrible setup, its designed like shit with no actual comprehensive flow, i think its a miracle that there wasnt more fatalities than there were
i spent almost 5 hours learning how to set it up and take off, and i have to restart because takeoff has the pilot doing 8 billion things while also worrying about flying hte plane
its literally like if i designed an aircraft
Can I do something to help?
I'm pretty familiar with the MD-80
im just not compatible with how its built
fair enough, if you want any videos or explanation let me know
the 747-200 is a significantly easier aircraft to fly and its 20 years older, which is really saying something about both how my brain works and how poorly designed the MD-80 is
The md80 flows actually make a lot of sense once you get used to them, it's just not using the boeing or airbus family design languages
If it doesn't click for you then fair enough, but they're actually very cleverly laid out cockpits.
(apart from the stby compass)
Part of the issue I think is that Douglas put a lot of work into having tactile differences, so different switches (especially important ones) had unique shapes, but that's just not helpful in a sim
There's a neat YouTube video from ~10 years ago of an American maddog captain going over all the neat features of the md80 cockpit if you're interested
I didn't know that, but it makes perfect sense
thinking about it, it's true
I think the most obvious example is the little airfoil shaped pitot heat switch
haram gaming
Well I’m not familiar with the MD-80 (although I do really really want to buy it) but from my limited experience with the DC-6 I can also say that Douglas planes are really cleverly made
not having flown this in 3 months it's been rough, but I didn't fall too much behind the aircraft, even though I make some mistakes, so that was good 😅
NVU+RSBN was definitely the right call, I would have totally forgotten how that worked if I didn't practice it a bit
Honestly I really gotta try a jet DC/MD, cause I wanted to add “just very different to what you’d be used to on Boeings” but of course the DC-6 is very different to the 727/737, it’s much older and it’s a piston prop after all
Honestly I just so wish we had more Soviet stuff in MSFS. At least a Tu-154 is coming along nicely from the looks of it, that’s good already
yep 😄
following the guy on patreon, and it does look good
I bet ini could quite easily make an An-124, it would take them not that much effort with the 225 already made
But of course, they won’t
Yeah I think we already chatted about that in the past
I think they very very easily could
Yep
Tbh I just hope that at some point
Like, in a couple years
Big devs will start running out of modern Boeings and Airbuses to make
Cause even now the modern scene is rather picked apart
So with that comes my hope that eventually bigger devs will start going into the past and potentially make eastern aircraft
Though even then that’s unlikely cause there would be tons of western planes still to be made
Honestly though out of all the Soviet/Russian planes, my top pick would be the Il-86. If someone made one it’d be soooo cool
See the Cockpit Chronicles blog post here: http://www.gadling.com/2013/05/01/cockpit-chronicles-how-i-fell-in-love-with-an-airplane-video/
The much maligned MD-80 has captured a spot in my heart. Here's why I've fallen in love with this 'old school' workhorse.
They're absolutely janky planes, but they're just so cool
I miss the Delta 88 flights to PWM so damn much, I could always hear them in my apartment
hopefully i can get at least 1 flight done today
I have a message already written, tomorrow I'll ask in ini-general if they have any plans, I already know the only two options are either "they won't tell me" or "they will ignore me" but I don't care
the last few times i tried to fly the zibo 737 was a straight up crash landing though, but that was also before i did some hard practicing, so i dont know
I always struggled landing the zibo, but that was near a decade ago and it's more than likely it was just a skill issue
its very boeing-like, you need to get your approach speed perfect more than the landing itself, too fast and youll take forever to land, too slow and youll cut the throttles and instantly stall
i was on the slow side of things, which wasnt helping my bad technique
i almost stalled and crashed on approach into luxembourg the other day in the 747-200 because my approach speed was right on the edge, combined with me rushing to get down to speed
I had to learn how to land fast, with the -200 with some gusts I have to keep Vref+15/20
isnt the saying "add 10 for the wife and kids"?
ahahah I guess so
usually I keep +5 if the weather is good
then i think the formula was gust/2 to get the additive
no, it was all of the gust
but capped at 20 (or 25?)
Well I’d cap at 20 too
Cause if gusts are more than 20
I’m diverting
But in fair weather I just add a standard 5
yeah me too
What makes it worse is the lack of hardware, keyboard controlling the rudder is something I still can’t do xD
So yeah, I basically never touch it, only when it’s really necessary
Tbh I now think I should’ve tried to find some hardware while I was in China literally a couple days ago…
Surely I would’ve found something
There’s everything there xD
damnit, no engine sound on the zibo 737s, i cant remember if i have a botched ftsim soundpack install or something
All-time classic “I forgot I had a flight set up and I went to take a nap”
Yeah, I’m excited
Gonna get some use out of Vnukovo with Utair
Sadly just the -500 for now
I do hope that the lifetime license ends up being a normal download and not an unlimited subscription though, cause I like just having a file saved in case what
At least iirc they promised that it’s gonna be available to purchase from Russia directly
get to do some BMI shit too, lovely
Oh yeah, BMI too
Hm, I like the subscription idea when it comes to flight sim aircraft, you can pay just $5, try it out, and if you don’t like it then you can just cancel
I don’t know about the full one-time price though
Well tbf
C919 is not that bad of a plane
I’d quite like to see one in FS at some point
just don't have your mic turned on then, if you say ''Taiwan is a country'' the plane immediately cuts out both engines & you crash into the sea or something
captainshart :(
you know product is bad when they dont even bother to change the model ident
hopefully you actually did realise that before you bought it
i bought it AGES ago when i actually had income, didnt really bother flying it, and then i realized that it was not good
same with the 717
so now im stuck with both, its like a tumor on my MSFS content folder
don't worry, I own the LVFR A321 (knowing full well its complete doodoo)
the LVFR A321 was actually worth it, because you can get the horizon mod with it, and it makes it somewhat flyable
can't wait for the FSLabs 321 neo so I can just nuke the LVFR one
also love the mysterious green gunk on the pedals
id rather buy the toliss a321neo than the fslabs one
hm suit yourself, ToLiss is quite nice but textures are just ass
& the FSLabs aircraft for me just work tbh
I do own the Fenix aircraft, but having it stutter harder than a handicapped child on takeoff & landing just kills any immersion I have

how good is the miltech C-17?
well, an even more specific question, how much better is it compared to the freeware one?
Everyone has something like that, don’t worry
Aeroplane Hell 707 for me
I did uninstall it though so it doesn’t bother me in the aircraft selection menu
i almost bought that the other day, it was so tempting and then i saw it uses an FMS instead of CIVA and decided it wasnt worth it even as a joke
Oh it’s awful
I bought it with the thought “Well how bad can it be?”
I didn’t know it can be that bad
going to give the MD-80 another shot :(
god help me
for some reason i cant get the FD cross bar option to work in the load manager, i have it set and ive tried applying it in several ways, but its always the single cue
which just isnt helping my case, i really suck at flying single cue
i will say that, for its time, the annunciator panel is fucking awesome, i love how its like an older EICAS
my time off is better this time at least, from 5 hours down to 20 mins
it helps when your not watching 3 hours of tutorials, learning everything for the first time, and also skipping some unimportant checks to do in a sim
actually not a bad set up, taxi, and takeoff, we're climbing nicely
this is from the other day, i did the thing
i think i died when landing the MD-80
my one wheel must have touched down first, and i chaseplane froze or something, so it looked like i had smashed my head into the side window and died
wasnt hard but it was off-center and on one wheel
i was sinking HARD just before the runway threshold too, you really cant try to cheat the glideslope in this
on most aircraft i like to cheat the glideslope low a bit towards the threshold, so i can kind of give myself room to float a bit, but i guess not in the MD-80
and people complain that this plane is ugly....
https://fycyc.com/
@rustic charm
Official FYCYC website.
hopefully they come back
they've disappeared for a while
I signed up and couldn't buy it, my account got deleted a few days later
Shame
Can you tell I'm a bit obsessed with this livery
it's genuinely one of the main reasons why I bought the plane in the first place
@reef isle @echo gorge @rustic charm
We got a second contender
Apparently
I havent even heard of this one
it's still the same
(CSS)
Yeah
Holy shit what
It is
It's the same CSS 737-500
CSS is not captain sim
^^
it's a new dev
Commercial Simulation Systems
it's either that or pay for the subscription
I thought Cs is releasing theirs this weekend
Nope
And css is some new contender
CS isn't doing a 737 at all
Bruh 💀
CS (Captain Sim)
I didn’t even know CS was doing a 737
They're not
Yeah it looks like it
yep 😄
CSS actually haven’t yet released anything for flight simulators
But as far as I know they are a company who used to make professional flight simulators (like full on cockpits) and they at least used to be headquartered in Moscow
Which also explains why they promised to make direct purchases from Russia possible, after all that makes sense if they’re Russian
Dont mention that it was hq‘d in moscow
I know some people might take it rather sharply xD
Sadly
I reckon that’s why they don’t mention anything about their location now
Well, thankfully at least here I’ve not experienced any issues, so can speak freely
Tbh for now when I mentioned being Russian in flight sim discords the main reply I got was “You must see lots of cool planes” xD
Well tbh, all aviation is
I love western and eastern aircraft equally, the only issue is that eastern ones are underrepresented
Both in reality and in flight sims in fact
If it's good that'll be worth the price imo
Yeah
Well
Eventually
Because that 5/month 50/year 120/forever covers all of the Classics
So eventually you’ll get -400 and -300 as well, including freighters
Checks out, a significant percentage of the best flight sim devs are russian or Ukrainian
So essentially you’d be buying a promise for now. Which in this case I’m kinda willing to do
I still hope that the 120/forever is not a forever subscription but an actual purchase though
Cause I want to be able to download it, have it in my files in case what and not rely on anyone’s servers
I’ll give it a shot with the subscription, but it has to be like nothing short of the fenix to get me to buy the full thing
Also, last night I found out that the VTOL VR modding scene has gone insane
There’s an official steam app for mods now, an there’s and A-10 and F-16, all with custom missions and everything
The last time I played with VTOL VR mods it was just like, anime girls on the exterior and that’s kinda it
I got the IXEG to FOMO-proof myself
Between the subscription and the fact those people haven't released anything before I'm very skeptical
I’m just hopeful lol
But for now it looks good
What I’ll probably do is first pay for a monthly subscription to just try it out, and then if I think it’s quality buy it
i've heard IXEG's support team is really good if you buy the XP12 version and request the XP11 one
the ixeg is kinda mid
with the RG mod is decent
I tried and they ghosted me
well
there was some jiggery pokery
damnit, i was planning on trying that
havent ever tried the rg mod
the RG mod stuff is so confusing
iderk what it does tbh
you have to have a VK account, which requires your phone number, and then you have to send a donation to a link and then be added to the group
Most importantly, it adds the -500 and -400 and freighter variants
and also it also improves the cockpit interaction
so you aren't forced to click and drag
systems are flight model are good enough for me
It's good enough for me to not feel like I need that MSFS addon
so that's all I needed it to do
They're about the same for me
I tuned the graphics setting until it ran well enough
(for both)
MSFS obviously looks better, most of the times
Oh that sounds fun
Tbh I don’t quite like VK, especially buying stuff through it
im so hit-or-miss with DCS, i've heard its possible to play it comfortably with a controller because you can use modifier buttons, but i've also heard that you really cant play it without a full HOTAS
i use a hybrid setup, i still use my mouse and keyboard for sort of secondary functions and cameras, and the controller is vital flight controls and things that i need easily accessible
i joined the DCS discord and there's an entire group dedicated to flying with just a gamepad
i think i might give the FC3 A-10A a shot, its only like $15
I forgot that you have the HUD in all fighter aircraft, with the whole course indicator bubble in navigation mode
Which makes landing visually insanely easy
I’m watching tutorials for the FC3 A-10A, and I really don’t like how everything is keyboard controls, but I also don’t entirely hate it either, because it means that things like radios and garbage don’t need tended to, which is pretty important for a noob like me
I’m also kind of interested in pivoting my sights on MSFS fighter aircraft maybe? Especially a high fidelity one, I can focus on navigation on that and combat in DCS
Bought the A-10A, I watched a full tutorial series and got very excited
I have rough concepts of some controller bindings that I would be cool with too
I expect (but don't know) that the fc3 planes should be decently doable with a controller
I'd also suggest giving the free su-25t a go, its a lot of fun
If there's ONE thing MSFS does really well is metallic liveries
Also US 777 domestic flights is just
Big shame that CLT-MIA/FLL is a new route so I couldn't fly that with bare metal
but MIA-DFW is fun too (although a bit long)
Landor next probably
based landor
Is it the airline that would later become Cimber Sterling?
Yeah
A delivery for now
Boeing Field to Halifax
In some 4 and a half hours I’ll be down on the island
And after that, probably tomorrow, I’ll take it over the Atlantic
Will have to get creative though because going from Halifax to Copenhagen in one hop is not possible
greenland stopover?
I think that's the "default" place at which to stop
Well, if I go north it’s probably better to use Iceland
they're both on the same route more or less
Yeah, Iceland would just be closer to a midpoint
Though when I took the Pan Am 727 to Tempelhof I didn’t use either
I initially planned for Cork but pushed further to Cardiff
Just checked and in terms of total distance they're almost equivalent
so... 🤷
there's like a 40NM difference if you stop in Iceland instead of Greenland
Oh yeah the total distance is almost the same
But Halifax - Somewhere in Greenland is gonna be much shorter than Somewhere in Greenland - Copenhagen
Whereas Halifax - Keflavik and Keflavik - Copenhagen would be a more even split of the total route I think
Plus tbh I don’t even know any airports in Greenland
With Iceland I at least know where to go
w plane
Well it appears we didn’t even have to discuss crossing the Atlantic for this 727 anyway, it won’t be going to Copenhagen in the end
Which is a less sad way of saying “I crashed, the plane is a writeoff”

wish i took russian seriously in school sometimes

it cannot be worse than japanese
i learned it and i speak it fluent
i know russian sucks
but its PROBABLY not as bad
what are the VR goggles for in the center console???
is that like a radar scope? how would you even check it like that?
Well tbh I can’t compare to Japanese, I haven’t even considered learning it tbh
All Asian languages scare me
But Russian is just rather illogical and has wayyy too many exceptions of the rules
And some rules do not make sense at all either
Spoken Russian is more or less fine, but writing correctly is such a pain
its not that bad
everything is possible with enough willingness
languages takes years tho
Oh yeah
Tbh even to properly learn English, which is relatively easy, it takes years
yes
i think english took me atleast 7-8 years to speak it in a native way/tongue
japanese prob less but i had a tutor for that one
Idk honestly how much English took me
To get the level I have now? Well, my whole life xD
But I don’t really remember at which point I started being able to speak more or less fluently
you want me to record stuff like that?
I've done loads of VATSIM flights w/ full control with the 154 and 134
(using RSNB and their inertial nav as well)
Gotta at some point try Vatsim for the sake of flying with Russian controllers
For the rest of the world BATC does the job, but trying Russian could be fun
I think speaking italian with italian ATC is probably the most fun I've had
and I mean "fun" in the sense that it was actually funny
me and my friends have seen so many videos of whack italian pilots being very unprefessional in a very funny way (especially in the 2000s), and we're "accidentaly" recreated lots of goofy stuff
I'll share a few clips from a legendary video (that are still funny even without understanding italian)

DCS has this really cool passive effect where they make you want to buy everything, much like MSFS
i got the A-10A, and then i saw you can get the persian gulf for $50, which is the largest map in DCS and is only 35GB to install, plus its perfect for the A-10, and now im fighting the urge to hold off on buying it until i figure out the A-10
the default black sea map should be good for some fictional cold war battles with the A-10... hopefully
Don't worry, at the current rate content is being removed from the store almost as fast as it's being added
dont say that, now FOMO is going to be on top of everything
But yeah I wouldn't buy Persian Gulf at this point, it's a very mid map compared to more modern stuff
the state of the art is Syria and Germany
Germany is brand new, so probably won't be discounted much soon, but Syria is on sale every other month honestly
i mean, it kinda fits the bill as far as A-10 ops goes, maybe an afghanistan map or iraq would be the runner-up
the A-10 operated over Syria too
The Persian Gulf map is frustrating because it doesn't include what you'd expect
It's really a "US and their Arab allies versus Iran" map
there's no Iraq, no Qatar, etc
the map was made when it was looking likely that there'd be an escalation between Iran and the west over oil
hm, hows the east/south afghanistan maps? cheaper and smaller, which might fit the bill for a beginner like me
The Iraq map as it stands is just GWoT stuff, so no Desert Storm, as you can't fly from Saudi yet
Afghanistan - the A-10A never really operated there, but...
both maps are pretty early access, and are being developed at a glacial pace - they promised 3 months between segments and it's turning out to be more like a year between them
ehhhh, im willing to take some creative liberty as far as A-10 variants goes
fair enough
if you're after multiplayer, Syria and Caucasus (the free one) are the big two, though I suspect Germany will catch up as it's a green map that isn't almost 3 decades old
for singleplayer, anything works really - i've had fun flying the Strike Eagle (RIP, gone but not forgotten) around the Andes
truly the best of times
(as of right now) im still interested in upgrading to the A-10C eventually, so maybe one of the afghanistan maps would be the best fit, instead of going for the persian gulf just for the A-10A
yeah, the A-10C (and upgraded A-10C II, which is really just a later software suite) is probably the most solid module in the game - it is the second oldest full fidelity aircraft after all
f15 :(
they finally took it off sale didnt they
other modules that are definitely worth considering:
- Anything by Heatblur, the Viggen, Phantom and Tomcat - all fairly "hands-on" aircraft, interesting to fly, very good at the missions they're designed for
- Mi-24P Hind, I've probably flown this more than everything else in the game combined by now, it's just the best helicopter for the variety of stuff you will do with it and the way it flies
- Deka's JF-17 - very modern aircraft, perhaps a little bit of creative license in terms of how close it is to the real thing, but it's had a lot of love poured into it
- Aerges' Mirage F1 - it's still early access and the radar definitely needs a rework, but you get 3 (and soon 4) variants for the price of 1 and it's an absolute blast to fly
things i'd avoid:
- warbirds; they're beautifully made and fly incredibly, but DCS' WW2 environment is barely even half cooked, it's been neglected for ages, none of the warbirds are really from the same part of the war, it's just an incoherent mess
- the korean birds; again, they exist in a game that doesn't really have any korean war assets
- anything by polychop; sad to say, because they really turned their reputation around, but the CEO is an arse and caused the whole dev team to quit, so these modules are currently without any real support
- the MiG-21; cool plane, one of the more versatile soviet aircraft in game, but the devs work slower than molasses and the promises of a revamp are pretty much vaporware at this point
- the F-16 and F/A-18; they're okay, but when you learn about just how much is missing and how long they've been "working on them" you'll just be sad
yeah, all of the Razbam-developed modules are gone from the store now for the time being; unlikely that they'll be back I guess
rip harrier
at least from what ive been able to find, the A-10A and C both served in eastern afghanistan at different time periods?
that's kind of what ive been able to piece together as the best all-around map for both
i could be completely wrong
that kinda seems like the best option if i want to use both A-10s eventually
if you just want to plink at ground targets then it's ideal
though, i loaded into DCS for the first time ever and the amount of shit you get bombarded with is terrifiying
no real air wars over afghanistan
i would rather eat glass than do A2A in an A-10
it's surprisingly capable in a WVR engagement, because it has excellent instantaneous turn rate, just awful sustained turn rate
it has the capabilitiy for A2A defense, but its not really built for it
indeed
they did have a few techniques for it though
i think the idea was that they'd form a very tight circle with their wingman and lob sidewinders at anything that got too close
but yeah that presumes that the opponent has just stumbled upon you and hasn't already R-27ed you from 15 miles away
I'd love to recommend the French dorito, sadly it's no longer available
More seriously the fc3 su-25 is very fun, and I can't recommend the viggen enough
The more modern stuff a10c, viper, hornet, ends up just being computer systems management, which while it's evidently popular with some players, is not for everyone
FC3 stuff is good for like
jumping in
not so deep, everything works pretty much the same on all FC3 stuff
buttons/binds wise atleast
DCS' control bindings are just
regular is flight controls, right bumper is weapons, left bumper is additional flight controls (like trim), both bumpers are defenses
i only just have enough buttons on my hotas
really like my f-16 binds though, feels good
definitely a little bit happy that i didnt jump in head-first into this
this was almost exactly 60 seconds after takeoff, i took off, made my turn to the first waypoint, and instantly got nailed
i forgot to bind countermeasures, and i thought i could outmaneuver it like an F-18, in an A-10
im just setting up an extremely basic air-to-ground setup, some waypoints to loop me around, a SAM setup on the ground, some convoy to hit, and whatever airport targets they have there
mark it down, babbys first kill
(i died 60 seconds after)
i dont get it
guns work obviously, dumb bombs and CCIP works, but AGM-65s dont
i can move the target designator, and i can lock onto a target (even though it doesnt look like im locked onto anything?), and then when i release it just goes off into nowhere, doesnt even hit anything
my brain is stuck on close air "combat" instead of close air support too, im trying to be 100% engaged with the ground at all times when that's just not realistic
you really need to do long sweeping passes for targeting, getting set up with bombs, and then dropping them, and my brain is just like "okay i have a target, now i need to turn around immediately and head back in"
It’s literally 30 seconds of high intensity, and then 2 minutes of flying out a few nm to get a good turn back in to go again
I heard the beautiful viggen mentioned ❤️
it depends what weapons you're using
Are the gates (crosshairs) "shaking" when they're locked?
Indeed, though getting into the habit of giving yourself some standoff range is definitely something that will help later on
Coin ops are such bs, imagine not having to only make a single pass because you've got a low threat environment SMH my head
One run in one run out is the proper way

Folks
Anyone know if we have all the airports for Continental’s island hopper in MSFS?
No, once I lock a target, it stays locked until I release, AGM-65
what r the icaos
id honestly assume some freeware ya
Well United stops at PHNL (I know we have that one lol) PKMJ, PKWA, PTSA, PTPN, PTKK, PGUM
But Continental used to stop at PJON for a brief time
I love IVAO. Greatest game ever made

honestly, VATSIM > IVAO
I will give ivao credit for their model library, I really appreciate that
But those models can be used on vatsim, which is the important part
i think i figured out what i was doing wrong with bombing in the A-10, you have to start high and fast, and you are literally diving at 15-20 degrees
i was doing it at 3000ft at a 5-10 degree angle
it is literally like WW2 divebombing, you have to basically go nosedown into your target and wait for the release point
im sort of getting used to the AGM-65s too, but targeting is still extremely finicky, the sensor refuses to lock onto actual targets, most of the time itll go for a building before a vehicle
ill start out 5 miles from the target, and i still wont get a lock once im straight overhead because it just keeps picking others
Blown up a few lethal bushes in DCS 😆
That’s another thing I struggle with too, really if you blow up a few ground targets, it’s a successful run
You don’t have to come in big dick swinging, trying to wipe out everything on the ground in red, as long as you get some it’s a success
Both because you’re very, very, very rarely going to be solo bombing, and the whole idea is that it’s supporting ground troops who are already fighting the targets
And even if you miss, having 66 rounds a second flying around you is going to make you less interested in fighting, though DCS doesn’t simulate morale or anything
It does simulate suppression, but only for infantry, and it's fairly basic
oh yeah, i started missing around with control curving, and i can get much finer control over using the cannon now
before i was spraying all over the place, i would do a run and it wouldnt even damage anything, now i have fine enough control where i can get some sort of accuracy
it's like im hitting everywhere but the actual target with the cannon
im not even damaging them
this is after expending all of my rockets, all of my ammo, all of my bombs, everything, i maybe got 4-5 targets out of all of these
6/21 ground vehicles
it is up from the 3 i got last time
i dont think i get DCS
i never thought i would end up preferring to fly the MD-80 over the A-10, but here we are
things are going as good as ever, it was dark in the cockpit and instead of hitting the TOGA switch i hit the fuel cutoff
and of course, just to cap it off, FCR doesnt record my landing
IIRC the A-10 guns can pen T-64 only from certain angles, anything more modern/heavily armoured is going to be extremely difficult to kill with the gun. Especially anything with ERA
Not quite like that, but I think it does angle and basic thickness
i am getting better with targeting at least, every time i practice i notice i do get a little better each time
i managed to land my minorly damaged aircraft after too
21 targets that i was aiming to eliminate, and i got 5
its just hard to wrap my head around, even if you just eliminate 1 person, just firing all of your ammuniton at the enemy and returning to base safely is considered a victory
dEpEnDiNg On ThE mIsSiOn
But like, if you’re doing just a “disrupt the enemy” type mission, it’s acceptable because firing a shit load of rockets and bullets and bombs at their position is going to disrupt them
Have you made sure to turn on EAC while having the gun selected? This is a stability augmentation system for the A-10A used when firing the gun, was the precursor to PAC in the A-10C.
I think it's the first and second stage trigger
Or well, it's supposed to be

Gun Strafe Demo from 9:28
In the A-10C, yes
In the A-10A, yes in reality, but sadly not in the game
Oh
According to reddit, Left-Alt + 4 should switch it on; I think it's off by default
Left-Alt + 5 to switch it off again
Honestly, even though I’m pretty familiar with the A-10A at this point, I feel like the jump up to a full simulated system is going to hurt
So much more buttons and switches in weird places
Hopefully I can use the same concept, flight controls and important main functions like weapons on the controller, everything else like weapon setup and HUD things can be on the keyboard
On full-fidelity modules, the ability to click switches with the mouse is super helpful
About 80% of the startup of the Hind is just clicking switches, I couldn't bind half of those without building a replica cockpit
I just use Lwin+home key cba with click switches gets boring after the 3rd time

so many 747s
Kai Tak was a 747 heaven
is it still garbage?
Ik this is the wrong channel but this sounds like the MD-11 Overspeed Warning
Ignore my voice

You don’t know the globemaster?
It is literally the best aircraft Boeing has ever produced
737, 777, 747, 787, all fine aircraft
But the C-17 is the crowning achievement of the company
Nah, that is absolutely wrong, 727 & 757
It's also literally the sole airplane Mcdonnell Douglas designed
Yeah I was about to say
It'd be really sad if it was the best Boeing product considering it's not actually a Boeing aircraft
I'd argue that the 707 and the 737 are the best Boeing designs
777 and 757 as honourable mentions
off on another hop of the pond
The pre–purchase for the extraordinary DCS: MiG-29A Fulcrum is now live with 30% off. A study-level, 4th generation Russian fighter has long been sought after by DCS pilots, and our MiG-29A is being developed to the highest degree of authenticity with external and cockpit models, systems, flight model, weapons, and sensors replicated to what w...
>me who can barely even read english
hypehypehypehypehypehypehypehypehypehypehypehype
Something to actually get me excited about dcs lol
Until ED inevitably fucks it up somehow
oh you know they will
No eots on early access or some other bs
Cant have an SU27 but we can make an F35 from a youtube video 🤣 🤣 🤣
Oh look its FC3 with clicky clicky switches who knew
I'm still mourning the mig23
Every time I see the germany map I just think how much fun that'd be against the phantom there
wasn't the mig 23 razbam?
yea giving us something different than nato shit
The mod Is also dead 😭
There was a half decent mod by CubanAce
Yes
The 29 will be cool, but an early 29 doesn't really have an equivalent contemporary outside the dorito, and given razbam's falling out who knows how long that'll be playable
And even the m2000c we have is significantly upgraded from its 80s config
I'm sure that f15c ed decided to do will be a post msip version so that's not really a fair contest either (and the f15 is just always in a bit of a different weight class than the 29)
Where instead the mig23 is a great match up for the phantom and f1, while still leaving stuff like the f5 somewhat competitive
Looks nice
How is it
im flying the delta one, its not bad
it flies, and somewhat realistically, the biggest issue right now is that the FMC is just a GTN750 instead of the 747 one, but the GTN750 works a lot easier and is better developed
wasnt there a c17 in msfs2024
yeah, miltech
its supposedly much better but im too broke
ill buy many things at unreasonable prices, but a broken game for $120 is where i draw the line
You know you can buy it via the FS24 marketplace for about 20 euro right?
lmfao
huh, theres actually a clickable cockpit mod for the A-10A
its really basic though, it basically just puts clickspots over switches that were already animated from the keyboard shortcut
yeah... im really seeing the power of armor in DCS now
im trying to shoot at some T-72Bs, and cannon does nothing, 14 rockets did like 28% damage to a single one coming from the rear
APVs are really easy to damage, but once they take any damage they all scatter, which makes cannons pretty ineffective because youd really need to just pick a few to aim at per pass
This makes me so happy
Not gonna tempt fate by saying we might get some more JF stuff
But
We might
That makes me very happy
They have said it will be on a case by case basis
that's what AGM-65s or CBU-97s are for
Reminder that the liveries work on both the X-Plane and MSFS version without any changes needed to the textures
All you need to do is change them from PNG.DDS. to .PNG and vice versa
(and if you're on MSFS of course you need to create all the other associated files - layoutj.jsom, manifest, aircraft.cfg, etc...) or just download a random livery and change the textures, who cares about thumbnail and other stuff
Friends! We are pleased to present you the first promo video of our team with CSS 735 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020!
More details about our product you can find on our website or in the official Discord channel!
They’re also streaming right now I think
Yeah the sound is low
The plane looks quite good tbh, I don’t usually watch streams though so I’ll just decide whether or not to buy it by first getting a monthly sub
that looks abit plasticy though
though, i've never been in a 737 classic cockpit
i wouldnt know
it's abit too light ig?
Not sure tbh
Doesn’t look too bad to me
Tbh I’m not too bothered by cockpit textures anyway as long as they’re not terrible. The most important part is of course how it flies
Their discord is unhappy though lol
They included card games in the EFB lol
Solitaire and spades
They restarted the stream in better quality now
BREAKING KLM flight KL877 Boeing 777-300 just returned to Amsterdam after left engine issue on takeoff
All updates: https://t.co/ZwzCOiqh1I
one day im going to have a fist-sized hole in the drywall next to my desk from DCS
im getting better at doing actual missions, but i get hit with 1 (one) bullet and both wings and both engines explode in a giant fireball and i nosedive into teh ground
you literally need to do a perfect, hitless run to actually complete a mission successfully
i really just need to be more careful and calculated, plus abandoning a run if it isnt going perfectly (which is what caused me to get shot one of the times)
im still trying to play DCS like call of duty, or those people in battlefield 4 who get in the helicopters and zip around the map at mach 5
though, after watching somebody do commentary on the gory gori mission, im starting to understand how strategy works for actual mission stuff
why is the F-14 the only non-owned colored icon
i did it, i finally completed my first ever DCS mission
gory gori, me and AI wingman successfully captured the 3 objectives with no damage taken on either of us
i now have to fight the massive urge to not buy the A-10C II or another map
To be fair, you can play the Hind like that
I genuinely do crazier stuff with that compares to freaking GTA
once i get the other A-10A mission under my belt, or even starting into a campaign, im definitely going to seriously consider the CII

@hollow oracle A10 2 is EDs best module
I’m definitely considering it more and more
Now that I’m okay at weapons, weapons theory, and main flight controls, I feel like I can start to look at the actual cockpit systems side of things
It doesn’t look too bad, it honestly kind of looks like I can use an identical controller profile to the A-10A, everything else can be done pretty okay with keyboard commands and mouse clicks as far as setup and weapons and things goes, once you’re in combat you won’t be fiddling with displays or switches or anything outside of the main important stuff
The main stuff you really need to worry about is stick and throttle, weapons release/targetting/cannons, and flare/chaff, everything else is nice to have handy but not imperative
The problem with the a10c is that it's all just guided weapons employment, which can be boring as fuck
It is boring as fuck
I got tired of ground pounding really fast
A lot of people seem to love that, but uh, not me
I love ground pounding, but that's ground pounding in the viggen or planes with even less advanced systems
Laser guided shit is just so dull
I think ground attack in general is a bit boring, it feels a bit too "binary" you're either very safe (and very effective, but falling asleep), or you die
That's true, especially on servers
Oh that's pretty much all I do
I wish there was a proper campaign, I've seen quite a bit of Sea Power gameplay (I'll buy it very soon most likely), and I always thought how cool it was to be able to do missions like that in DCS
I tended to do a lot of singleplayer and coop stuff for ground attack, servers are really only good for air combat imo
Yeah that's fair, I think I'll try to do more single player
whoops
Nice custom livery
whats wrong with iron bombs?
Do you mean dumb bombs?
noooo im talking about manual release iron bombs
you can still drop manually than guide
i loved the rocket count on the AV8B
Do you mean mclos missiles?
On the harrier, must have been either APKWS or Zunis
Oh I see
you dont always have to use harms and mavericks
Yeah of course
Oh, I misunderstood the 'then guide' bit
its ok
But dropping dumb bombs at people that aren't shooting back isn't that much fun
That's where the viggen's so great, it's got the performance to get you in under an era appropriate iads with a decent probability of success
While still being in real danger
i like the bagguette cluster bomb on that
Well, if it shoots too much you won't even get close, that's the thing I was saying earlier, in DCS is very rare to have something that's enough of a threat to be scary, but not enough to give you a chance
My favorite is the rockets or the rb05, hitting ships is fun
Yeah, that's where stuff like the viggen or (presumably, I don't have it) the f15e shines, low level ingress and egress in contested airspace
Yeah the m2k was fun for ground pounding, the whole razbam thing is such a terrible shame
15E is the best module in dcs personally my prefrence its better than the 18 and 16
very much so
They were all too modern for me lol, wish they'd made an aardvark instead but modern and multirole is where the money is so fair enough
what about F14?
I was looking forward to their mig23 so much
thats good if you have a human rio
Not soviet enough
yea mig23 was the one
even with jester you can make it work
It seems very cool, but something about it never really interested me enough to buy
i mainly fly the f14 (mp excluded) and had few issues imho
I don't like the Tomcat and I ended up not liking the Phantom too much as well.
I feel like with Jester is too easy, and without it's impossible
human will always clear jester but its not impossible
I also just don't like virtual crew members
its what pi***ed me off about ED the whole "We need documents to make a realistic SU27" Comes out with an F-35......................... Utter BS its all about money, They should of made all the FC3 full fedilty
yes there getting f15c and mig29a
Yeah that pisses me the fuck off as well, though in my case I want the su25a
Well it has a natural competitor (the MiG-21) and it's perfect for Germany
It's the mainstay of all cold war servers
now there basing it off we will see how well the mig29 sells..............
mfw the AI mig21 pulling 90gs without any issues
and i struggle in the school bus called phantom
spearcat jag and lightening in dcs would be good
Oh yeah, I mostly play PvP
Fair enough
I'd rather suck than deal with the DCS AI
A jag would be awesome
lmfao
to much crying in pvp this missile and that missile put me off forever
Just play cold war
na its all BS
Yeah, moder era PvP is cod-level in terms of the community
plus dcs crashes everytime i loaded up SRS
I don't use SRS
I have used it for a while
But it's not required
spam amraam 30 miles, turn away, pray
re do
oh not to mentioned the loading times just to get in not only the sim but an online server
its so slow and im running 4090 and 64gb of ram
fun ✨
IF BMS updates its sim it will ruin ED
Don't know what to say, it's fine for me
Takes no longer than 5 minutes
Usually much less
I just join server, spawn, try the best I can to not suck, have fun, leave
i just generally fell out of love with dcs because of so many issues performance wise and the web ED feeds you
"web ED feeds you"?
@reef isle
these types of things
and this one
Oh I just got the stage I don't care anymore
They obviously do what's profitable
I don't think anyone is surprised
yea of coarse an SU27 would make 100s of dollars
This isn't just ED, I always start with the assumption that every single company is here to milk me as much as possible even for the tiniest game
agree
like i can jump in any other sim in VR or game and play in DCS you have to tweak this and that blah blah blah i just cba
It's way too exhausting to think differently and being outraged when the inevitable happens. I'm much happier by starting to assume the worst and then being happy every time any company does something that's not just blatantly anti-consumer
I don't care about the F-35 at all
The f35 honestly does irk me, because if they're willing to make a plane with that little public material available I don't see why they can't make more redfor aircraft
Especially with modern (but even somewhat with cold war) its all blue v blue
Of course the mig23 would've helped that a lot, but well...
That said, it's their company and their choices, but I just find myself growing disillusioned
Ugra's Germany looks incredible though
And at least we're getting the 29, and better yet it's an early a
I think MiG-29 is as late as it can get while still being somewhat fun tbh. I get what you're saying and I agree but even planes like the DCS Harrier II I think are a bit too modern for me
Yeah
The Harrier is fun only if you restrict yourself, for example by using the nose mounted camera instead of the TPod, but while you can come up with some plausibile plot for carrying modern guided munition without the Tpod or someone else laser designating for you it just isn't satisfying
You know that 99% of the time that's not how that Harrier would have been employed
I'm just so sad that the mirage 2000 is off sale as it's sort of the perfect counterpart to the 29
Yeah very sad
It's even more sad that it could just randomly stop working
And there's a chance that nobody would fix it
I think the best way of flying that or the hornet (I say not owning either) is to do basically gulf War era config, where it's basically dumb bombs and mavericks with no targeting pods
And that is plausible because it happened, it just makes no sense if you're on a server without restrictions though
Also I'm fairly confident that they were almost always laser guided mavs with JTAC lasing for you
Which again, boring
But less boring than the alternative I agree
For me the biggest thing is the big MFDs
In close air support maybe? But I think they were using ir and TV Mavs then too
thats another thing in pvp servers to much datalink and A.I awacs telling you where bandits are and heading etc bores me
Yeah, I don't like mfds at all
theres no fun in it
I think I came across some sources in the past that claimed IR mavs were almost 100% for anti ship use, and they're way over performing in DCS
In terms of picking up targets
TV ones though?
Could well be
Harrier doesn't have them
Oh rip
But yeah, in DCS using the nose cam and then "transferring" to IR mavs and firing them is loads of fun
Because it introduces time pressure
Because the camera is in the nose you MUST be travelling inbound and thus getting closer, can't just orbit at a safe distance
So if you aren't prepared or you are too slow you'll get yourself in danger
apparently it was getting absolutely TRASHED from the early streams and stuff on reddit
i like it, it's like playing chess and you actually have time to plan out your moves
well
it didnt look that good
ibr
not to trash on any product but
that 737 doesnt look like $120
that's because it isnt, it's priced that high so you're forced to get a subscription model, and the devs get a constant stream of cash flow
and its $5 a month, and like most subscription services nowadays, they thrive on people forgetting to cancel and endlessly paying, or they pay for so long that it exceeds the price of the original product
It’s priced that high because it’s the price for 3 planes…
And they won’t thrive on people forgetting to cancel because you have to manually resubscribe every month. It doesn’t auto-renew
the -300, -400, and -500 are practically identical
its like the A319, A320, and A321, or the -700, -800, and -900
Yet it is normal in flight sims to sell such things separately
Look at literally any dev
PMDG? Check. Fenix? Check. FSS? Check. And then you have shit like CS selling different engines separately… that’s a tad too far in my opinion
FlightFactor moment
For now I think the only devs that don’t do that are ini, who sell the 350 as one plane and don’t divide the -900 and -1000, and JustFlight, also not dividing the F28s and 146s
Btw if for comparison you take the cheapest combination of any 3 PMDG 737s, it comes to $155
i have more annoying DCS questions
Obviously for now the price seems high because you’re essentially buying a promise, and of course it’s reasonable not to want to. So I say just wait until more promised features and the other variants get done and buy it then. And if in the meantime you really want to fly a classic, you can just pay 5$ for a month, satisfy the need for a 737CL and enjoy your flying
i know i asked before, but now that im looking into it a bit more seriously, what would be the best map to learn the A-10C on? i like the A2G gameplay, and i've heard afghanistan is great for that, but and i love the open desert scenery, but i dont know if its worth it to get the ENTIRE map, or just east afghanistan for bagram?
i dont want it to sound like im incapable of deciding for myself asking the same question over and over, but i also dont want to get ripped off with a $60 DLC when im already buying another $70 one
Cause how many months in a row would you really fly the same plane? I could see myself paying a monthly sub just 2-3 times a year if I didn’t wanna buy it, just so I can get a couple flights in the plane and then enjoy the rest of my virtual fleet
actually, i guess a better question would be, what has the highest quality missions/campaigns for the A-10C? both community and official (im not sure what the A-10C includes by default)
after doing some simple tallying, syria runs away with it with 7 missions/campaigns, the runner-up is the gulf and afghanistan with 3 each
Syria
Syria is (rightly) beloved by the community, and has generally the most community support of any map.
The Persian gulf is popular with the naval community and I expect germany will grow really popular over time, but at present if you get one map get syria
I would wait for a sale though, it's been out long enough it gets very decent sales
with the DCS store free trials, can you do more than 1 at once? ngl i might just do both as trials while waiting for a sale
I think you can do multiple at once but I never tried
i have a feeling i should transfer over to the non-steam version of DCS anyway, even though im not super thrilled about it
Yeah, it's generally a good idea to do so
the state of ED makes me concerned at best
if they went down and out, i know steam would have my back, but i dont entirely trust that ED auth servers will keep working
Yeah, I can understand that concern, I don't think things are quite that bad but it's a fair reason
but, with how many players have money invested into this game, it wouldnt surprise me at all if something like that was met with MASSIVE backlash and a community-made EOL update
Yeah, I kinda expect it would be
tbh im just excited to see shit finally making its way to FS24, can't lie.. I have been on the fence on switching sims & with SU2 that certainly seems like the way to go
im waiting for SU3, supposedly the beta has an option to actually download things instead of streaming them
it does, expected that in SU2 but seemingly got pushed back
once that launches, im 100% sold
not going to listen to every spunk lolly that says ''upgrade to the beta!!'' & then bitch about their planes not working
im also excited about the FSLabs shit making its way finally to FS24 too, just need the PMDG & iFly 73s
wish we got the Concorde but oh well
They're all the same
In terms of learning weapon employment
i didnt realize that you could didnt need to re-download DCS when switching between versions
Yup
yeah, after switching versions, the standalone version is a LOT better
hm, what are the odds that we get a memorial day sale?
that kind of lines up nicely with the 2 week trial period
i was like "man, why is is to had to control right now?"
lesson learned, dont even try to bomb moving ground targets
using any rudder when your missing one of your vert stabilizers is instant death
static oil and hydraulic gauges
Another reason i wont by maps in dcs after ugly media cried at ome tech about removing the borthern part of there map
Low, they just came out of a sale period, and memorial day is an american holiday to the best of my knowledge, which ED doesn't tend to observe

Either I do the free trial and end up buying it early off sale, or I buy it off sale
im impatient, money flows like water, and the earth is going to be swallowed up by the sun in a few billion years anyway
Ive flown DCS in a casual manner since it first came out and the base map is the only one I have. Tight fisted 😆
personally, i prefer doing real-world ops over fictional ones, but caucasus isnt bad at all
after looking at some A-10C missions on caucasus, there are some with pdfs of just pages and pages of background and lore building on fictional missions, its really awesome
Problem (weird calling it a problem) with real world is that there's not been a high intensity conflict with us involvement since 1990 (and that almost doesn't count)
¯_(ツ)_/¯
if it's got an A-10, and it has a grounding in reality, i prefer it over something 100% fictional in a part of the world where A-10s didnt see much outside of just flying over
I suppose if you wanna do coin stuff then Iraq, syria or Afghanistan work well
But for high intensity stuff germany is perfect and the caucuses is honestly decently plausible for a mid-late 2000s scenario
I need a 777X asap
and another naha liftoff

didnt even know it was possible to get shot and killed inside of the cockpit
my wingman got blown up by a SAM trying to take out air defenses for me, and the second wave of attackers had artillery, AAA, still the same SAM
i had 4 other A-10s but i was almost out of ammo and went "surely this is my time to go in with the cannon"
it just feels kind of weird to be circling and watching without really being able to do anything, all i had are bombs which are useless against moving targets, and cannon which makes you extremely vulnerable
guess i could have used CCRP bombing on the stationary air defenses from extremely high up, but even then im still not keen on the targeting pass still needing to get pretty close to get it accurate
default
hope its decent enuff
not PMDG quality, but its enough to where id trust it to go long hours
performs realistically enough, never had any issues
cant be too bad
i've done a trans-atlantic flight without any issues in it
Honestly as much as a 748 is nice, wen 744
Totally not biased because one of my local carriers has them and I took a flight on one just under 2 months ago
i still havent gotten the sparky one to work at all
it's going to be hard to resist now 😭
Man this last few weeks/months have been brutal
I bought the DC-9, then Germany CW, the 777-200 and now I have to also buy Sea Power
time to do the switch soon tm
Ekranoplan ❤️
Tbh I don’t even consider FS24 yet. I really don’t like that you can’t just download it and stream less data. The only thing that will genuinely make me switch is if good 2024-exclusive stuff starts being made
ehhhh, i kind of wanted to wait on the free trial of the A-10C and syria until i was ready to learn it, but i might start it today, because regardless of if there's a memorial day sale or not, im going to most likely be buying it by next week anyway
i feel like the A-10C might actually be a lot easier to fly than the A-10A, considering that it has IR missile detection capabilities, screens, and a better HUD setup
im not liking the concept of the free trial stuff, it adds so much pressure
like, once you start it, you have to start using it immediately so you're not wasting any time
I'd argue with you about that because of the Hornet and F35
Who's Razbam? - ED, probably when looking at their expenses
Does anyone here have the CRJ V2?
been batteling with the fenix for the past 30 minutes
what a terrible plane it is sometimes
i thought the C II came with the C?
The c ii was a standalone update to the c
You're not actually missing anything other than a lower resolution cockpit
Spittin' fire
I think it should still give you access to the aircraft, just doesn't show in the module manager
It's effectively an older software suite, so not really that exciting unless you want to roleplay real hard
fair, i wasnt really sure on the differences other than that the A-10C is an older release therefore it has a bit more community made content
missions, campaigns, stuff like that
well
my tip is
download the mission
replace the old 10 with the a10c II
yes its a bit of a hassle but
works
true
im not sure if it works with paid campaigns thoooooooooo
they might be encrpyted or something
i never played a paid one
Doesnt work with campaigns but does if you save as individual missions
the A-10C is strange in a good way
cold start wasnt bad, and i took off and followed some steer points
oh fuck yeah, when i think combat aviation, i think miles and miles of nothing but sand
fighter jet grey + that brown and blue is just
it really makes you realize how extremely cramped caucasus is
i still have to figure out weapons, the one thing i dont really care for in the C is how it's all done with the screens now, i like how simple the switching was in the A
You can technically do all weapon swapping with the stick but it's usually faster to do it in the DSMS page
Did my first few flights in VR, it's awesome 😄
It really does feel like you're in the cockpit
Even with the shitty Rift S that they gave me to try
I really think I can reach and touch things and then get sad because I can't
Yeah, I don't think I could go back to non-VR any more, especially for helicopters or air-to-air refuelling
Just need to replace the Reverb G2 as it looks like it's not getting a stay of execution
I do formation aerobaticss and the difference is massive
I'm really happy with where I got with just a screen, but it's undeniable that it's much much easier in VR
this was my very first attempt at station keeping with VR and it's uncanny how stable it is
(granted, it's just very gente very easy to follow maneuvres, but still)
I definitely want to get something with more resolution than the Rift S to read stuff lol
I tried flying the 777 and it's nearly impossible just because of the resolution 🫤
There has been 3 737 fuselages fallen into a river
If you’re talking about the new Aaron Rheins video, that was in 2014
The JF146 for XP12 is released
It's fine don't worry
I've done worse ahahha
Oh
Fuck yeah
Already?
That’s me sorted for tomorrow then haha
Its been a while
Thumbs up?
yup
I'm not gonna beat around the bush because it is essentially the same plane as the XP11 version
but its still cool
Battleship 🩶
just downloaded their installer
not sure if I want to run it
I’ll look at it a bit later
my disappointment is immesurable, and my day is ruined
Oh well oh well
Though it says not whitelisted, meaning most likely they only allow a small number of specific emails to register, so it sounds like it might be in testing
yep
I created an account to their website twice and they have deleted it after a few days both times
looks like they got tired of deleting my account
you can't get any further with the installer either
so yeah, looks like it still isn't avaiable to the public

Still holding out hope that ED might do a Memorial Day sale
Though, now that I have a job on the way, it really doesn’t matter to me too much if I have to buy it full price
They're a """swiss""" company, memorial day isn't really a thing for them
I don't think they've ever done one before at least
Looking on just steam sale history alone, it looks like in the past 4 years they did it twice or so, and I’ve heard they do even more frequent sales on their site than steam
I was gonna say just wait for Easter before remembering that it’s currently may and I’m a retard
Hey ho
yeah, i chose probably the worst time to get into DCS
From what I recall there are some pretty regular sales on steam
5-6 a year
I should play DCS again
