#Flight Sims (MSFS, P3D, X-Plane, DCS, FS98...)
1 messages Ā· Page 32 of 1
because it doesnt autocenter completely at times, itll gradually pitch up and down, which makes the VSI gauge drift up/down
i still cant figure out how to disco the autopilot with the yoke button too, i asnt able to figure it out when i flew with my xbox controller either
what the fuck?
its picking up a random VOR now?
i have it set to 109.4, which is the next VOR in my sequence, but its pointing me direct south, and the morse identifier is not correct
and now i lost the morse signal??? why the fuck would it pick up a random non-related VOR?
the only other 109.4 VOR in the area is in wilkesbarre PA, HZL, which is northeast of my position
i should have added another VOR in my route, i guess 275nm between is too much
i really need to play with airways and stuff even more, manual flight planning too
my lazy ass just hits "VOR only" in simbrief and calls it a day
this is the plan i came up with, it follows two airways so the courses to follow are accurate (navigraph gives me weird incorrect headings between waypoints)
the only thing is that it looks like the minimum altitude is FL180, which is fine because im at FL320
That looks allright
I'd recommend planning /w flights on skyvector (at least in the us) faa charts are a lot more readable for flight planning imo
it's right on the limit
p3d wont die
p3d was never intended for the 'public' market per se
it's a military simulation software
woah that's so cool š
Looks like those are the turbine/generator units?
oh you could very easily fly through there š
they knew what they were doing š
Yeah
It's just ugra doing donuts to show off at this point lol
can u check halle as a city pretty please
sure
@trim harbor
sorry I have a pretty aggressive LOD, that's why you see so many 2d areas
wow i see where i live
thats actually pretty crazy
and suprisingly enough
it's pretty time accurate
oo is this the new DCS map?
Yes
aww man :(
tempting but wtf
only 8 billion years to get a cabin
it would be cool if he put it into the official release
is there a single scenery that fixes KMYR in xp11?
theres two freeware ones, but its the old taxiway config
trying to fly the FJS with this yoke makes me want to eat glass
it doesnt autocenter with pitch cleanly, so it always detects the tiniest up/down pitch signal, which makes manual descent/ascent literally impossible
...
nevermind
my yoke wasnt setup for the aircraft
it was calibrated, but no deadzones or custom curves
this flight is a mess, i overshot my waypoint by 5 miles
navigating, trying to manage vertical speed with wrong controls, while also trying to troubleshoot why the controls are wrong
and autothrottle
two close calls with traffic, theyre trying to get a look at my hooters >:(
it come with egg roll
it never works
thats me wrestling with the autopilot to get locked onto the VOR radial
go-around and hard landing, scrapping the flight completely
i can do it better, so im not going to keep the shitty one
The 732 is just such a pretty plane, low bypass turbofans just look so much better than high
Has anyone tried this game? https://store.steampowered.com/app/2660460/Aviassembly/
Build A Plane
Create your own plane. Balance fuel capacity, weight, speed, cargo space and more. Choose parts carefully to optimize your plane for the desired flight characteristics.

its really a product of its time
the golden age of innovation as far as airliners
good ol xplane broken terrain
im very tempted to just release the parking brake to see what happens
Might be fun
my brain is too far gone, every time i see atlas air, all i can think of is that fucked up ad
i enhanced the sound too
how do australians even fly like this
I am once again to just use heading lol
I usually do that in the 737 max in FS24
What the actual hell
Yeah, just wrong era unfortunately
Hopefully it either gets patched or a mod gets made giving them the proper livery
Itās the same level of detail as the CL60
Give or take
No walk around but still pretty cool
Yeah dats y
It doesnt really have range though
It's astonishing how much better Ugra are at this than ED or Orbx
inb4 they're the next dev team to abandon ship/implode/not get paid/etc
We've lost 3 already in the last 12 months
I really hope not, this has gotten very silly at this point
ive been looking at getting an aircraft for my birthday/easter, and im still kind of undecided
im thinking either the IXEG 737, the felis 747-200 or the xcrafts E175
nvm, the IXEG isnt even compatible with 11
im kind of tired of flying older aircraft, the 732 is enough complexity for me, and the 747 is like 2x the work with a FE panel
there is the SSG 748, but if i wanted to fly an -800 i would just fly the MSFS one, its not perfect but it definitely gets the job done and pretty well
im even considering the FF 767, their 757 is awesome, and fedex/UPS fly a massive fleet of them
that happened last night when i tried taking off from frankfurt hahn too
its like if all my fuel and cargo is on one side of the aircraft, and also the engines are out on one side
For the 75 I'd wait for Bluebird in MSFS
The FF is quite mediocre
Oh wait you said 767 š¤¦āāļø
Yeah if you like it go ahead, I can't stand their 3d modelling of the cockpit, for some reason it feels wrong, like they got the shape/dimensions wrong
And the yoke is comically small too
the sparky 744 is unbelivably garabge, ive troubleshooted as much as i can and im still getting identical issues regardless of whatever version i use
- takeoff seems to be extremely unstable (hard to keep centered on the runway, like my engines arent throttling on one side)
- throttle N1 displays bounce around between 30-31.3 at random when idle and on the ground (in the air it seems to be stable, throttles do not bounce around)
- VNAV overshoots selected altitude by almost 600ft, then slowly descends to meet the altitude again (regardless of how fast of a v/s)
- VNAV does not adjust pitch to meet a selected speed (it will hold a speed until the aircraft reaches its selected altitude, only then will it pitch down and gain speed past V2, and then throttles roll back to meet speed)
- autothrottles are extremely slow to react (they will overshoot selected speed by 5kts)
- autopilot will only manage speed through throttles, and not by pitch
- cabin altitude is extremely slow to react (will go up to 9500ft after takeoff, and only then will it adjust down, slowly)
i have no idea why that mod is so highly regarded
one of the extremely rare times where something is so garbage that i dont even want it taking up the hard drive space
Iām hangry and frustrated, but Iām still disappointed that the default 747 in MSFS is somehow more complete than that
I think all the dedicated 744 fliers I know were still with the PMDG in P3D
If it ever happensā¦
What version of sparky are you using?
Because i have literally none of these issues
Flying with Luftganza š
Such a shame there are pretty much never airport sceneries for the 80s and stuff
Flying out of Sheremetyevo is gonna be painful again once we get a Tu-154 in MSFS, it changed quite a bit
At least I have Munich Riem and Tegel
Seems like having 2 Stansteds installed isnāt a great idea
Just got iniās Stansted, landed, taxied off the runway and there was a sharp bump in terrain for some reason
I expect that reason to be the fact that iniās Stansted is somehow conflicting with the world update Stansted
2024.05.26
one version out of date, but thats what the -400F mod specifically says to use
back in flight sim after a while away from it
How do you get the box next to your name with ā” B747?
Thanks š
after consideration, i think the 747-200 is the frontrunner for me to get for my birthday/easter
i've heard its exceptional, and im in the mood to do some 747 stuff, especially the older ones
plus its an experience you cant get in MSFS, and its both compatible with 11 and 12 (if i decide to upgrade eventually)
Sale is on at the .org, so good timing. Going to pick it up as well.
i was going to say, plus the sale, no better time to do it
i was going to pick up some other games too, somehow i havent played RDR2 yet
Goated plsne
Well worth it
Especially for some 747 short haul ops
Freight as well
Can we Tu-134 in MSFS please
Tbh though can we just anything Russian in MSFS
Il-86 and Il-96 would be sooooo lovely
Just imagine doing this in Tivat
funky s7 livery
86 would be really fun cause itās very underpowered, even the crews would joke about it
Tbh itās not even much S7
Itās basically the Aeroflot livery, just with the S7 logos
S7 started operations in ā92, I reckon they didnāt want to keep the 86s for long then cause 96s were already a thing
Except I think in the end S7 took no 96s
Yeah wasn't S7 just one of the airlines that was born out of Aeroflot's division and resizing?
I think they just happened to get some 86s and got rid of them as soon as they could, I think the only soviet era plane they kept for any amount of time was the Tushka
Thatās pretty much 90% of Russian aviation š
Even now, S7 was born out of Aeroflot, Rossiya was born out of Aeroflot, Smartavia is literally Aeroflot-Nord rebranded, Pobeda is fully owned by Aeroflot, Ural Airlines was also born from Aeroflot
Which isnāt surprising cause in the Soviet times Aeroflot was the only airline after all
something i didnt realize is that the 747-100 is (basically) identical to the -200, at least externally, so that gives a lot more flexibility to the felis too
i can do some clipper flights, which sounds really fun
i have a feeling that im going to be doing some homework though
they have a different amount of windows on the upper deck
Thereās a window plug mod to fix that, so thatās taken care of
And some -100s had more than the 3, itās not a consistent spotting rule
And some -200s had 3
Saul bass is such a fucking livery
do they have the same engines?
United was a constant improvements with liveries until they got Continental
Wasn't blue tulip after battleship grey?
But yeah battleship grey is probably my favorite airline livery ever
Hard to argue with that
Probably the only other competitor would be the final cp airlines livery (at least to me)
I still think Landor wins, but as an airline I think United had consistently the best liveries during their existence
Yeah that's fair
huh, the 747-200s actually had only digital navigation?
the only options are CIVA, LTN-92, and the default FMC
i guess youll need digital navigation to cross oceans easily without a navigator
The ones that lasted to the modern era had gps fmcs
But yeah, they basically all had ins
I love civa
It's super jank but I find it really fun
ive heard that the CIVA was only really used in european aircraft for the most part?
I think it was mostly used for oceanic stuff
Uhh
Not honestly sure, I think it was built by a us company
I know a lot of us airlines kept using /a or /w only aircraft for domestic stuff into the 2000s, so I wouldn't be terribly surprised if it had more use in Europe, but really I think it was mostly used for oceanic flying
It was fairly rare in Europe as well
Especially in the 72s and 73s
it was a lot more common in the 74s and other long range planes (like the DC-10 and L-1011) because obviously they needed to be able to navigate in oceans or big uninhabited land masses
A lot of operators in Europe went directly from just VORs to very early GPS based "FMCs" in the '80s as far as I understood
(I think for example BA fitted their 1011s with FMCs before they got retired)
ah, im kind of used to the 732 and 722, and those were pretty rare to have the CIVA units, i know that for afact
don't worry it was a lot more common on these long range jets š
I mean, even Concorde had it š
i have a general idea on how it works through the FSS 727, but not much, so thankfully i got a head start on learning that
thank god i dont have to worry about VOR navigation as much with this too, i didnt prefer that in the 732
Thank you CIVA INS
Tbh Iām in the minority here but I donāt really like battleship grey
Like tbh, apart from the current livery, battleship is my least favourite
Iād in fact say it goes in the reverse order
Friendship -> Saul Bass (Iāve always called it Tulip lol) -> Blue Tulip -> Battleship Grey -> Current livery whatever it is called
There is united Continental
And the new one
I think ratty ass looking Continental liveried aircraft have something about them
United donāt take care of planes
In this livery they look cool as fuck
Yeah that one tbh is quite nice, especially dirty
The best UA livery
Its a shame really
Their new one isnt bad
Itās mid
I'm in my landor era
landor is such a cool livery bruh idec
so classy
so good

it's like the GNER of the airways
i think their 75/76 is pretty good when it comes to systems and physics, and they are working on a free update to the modelling but how much they will change i have no clue about
I don't even think it's "bad"
Just the shape and position of things feel wrong?
It doesn't really look like the same plane does it?
Like, the FF cockpit looks like everything is a bit too tall and not properly to scale?
XP?
yessir
With no reshade on or nvidia filters?
yeah i agree it looks off
can only hope they fix it
i love this guys tutorials, but his voice puts me to sleep in a good way, its like bob ross
https://youtu.be/OvUafrp4wk0?si=wi9bx8nJ-rZIhmsw someone's already done a very cool cinematic/music video on the new map
Though seeing german phantoms with sparrows is cringe
Shouldnt really use reshade with xp. XP hates anything that messes with its shaders. Known to cause problems

learning the 747-200 is much, much, much harder than i expected
Iām about done with one tutorial series, and Iām absolutely going to have to watch another
Red balloon asset pack $12.99
The only issue I have is an occasional texture glitch and flicker
The reshade preset literally bumps the contrast and thatās it pretty much
I think thatās literally it
Could use Nvidia filters but I canāt be arsed to set that up
Not all that different to the 727. little bit more to it but kinda homely feeling
I can't explain why I have no feelings at all towards the 747-200
747 in general tbh
I think the 747 is way too good and successful for me
Love the machine, not so keen on the mission. Long haul is a no no for me
With the amount of stuff that needs done, long hauls almost feel too short
manually working on fuel balancing, updating waypoints, navigation updates
its enough to make a 7 hour transatlatic flight feel like 7 minutes
Maybe? Even Concorde is boring in cruise, is the 747 worse in terms of workload?
i mean, theres no constant work, but you have to pay attention at all times, to two seperate panels
and if you're doing a 2-3 hour flight, all of that gets compressed even further
im planning on doing KMIA-KJFK for my first flight, and im kind of concerned about fuel balancing and stuff in that short amount of time
at least logically its not that hard, center tank -> 2 and 3 main tanks -> tank-to-engine, keep moving down as everything gets balanced
but that takes away your attention from the pilot's seat, which can be challenging
right uhhhhh leg 2 to 3 checks out
sorry? š
im not sure if i want to do my own flight to learn the 747, or the tutorial flight from the tutorial series im watching
the only issue is that its a flight not for the faint of heart, london heathrow to phoenix
and you cant take a nap and come back with the 747, or use simrate, that is a 10 hour flight that you have to raw dog
though, if you want slow and easy, that is definitely it
maybe instead of phoenix ill do toronto
Eh, tbh, you can easily make it so you have some 5-hour gap to do other stuff during the cruise. Then you come back for 10 minutes, do a couple edits and back off
Get it up to altitude, INS provides all the guidance you need. Even with 9 waypoints, you can cover a great distance. Set up the fuel from the centre tank, it will take a while to drain
and of course toronto doesnt have any non-RNAV STARs
basically with the FSLabs Concorde, the FO does all the enroute waypoints.. so every once in a while you'll hear him say the above or ''thats leg x to x checked now''
Ah yeah, no obviously speaking without using virtual crew members
that's no fun
My personal experience has been with the Colimata Concorde (w/Heritage mod) and the FSX Tu-144
yea im not holding out any hopes for an update for the FSLabs Concorde for P3D though im hoping we get the option to disable the VCS with the MSFS version
lord knows i'll be buying that as soon as it releases
Is there any flight planning software that can give you headings between waypoints? Sometimes even VOR to VOR is not an option š¤£
They should all give you a heading I believe
Would need to compensate for wind if not tracking something. gps vor fmc
The best I've found is xNVU
You can also try Skyvector
Skyvector onky has airways unfortunately
Navigraph does, but I don't think it does any correction for a great circle, so if you just fly that heading you'll be going off course
Can't you create your own route?
And then it will generate a log
Oh can you? Tbh possible, I just use the big map lol
Yeah there's a flight planning part
That's the one you'll have to use
You want a proper NavLog
Anything but that will approximate in ways that makes navigating a huge hassle
Okay how did I never realise skyvector had this
Wouldāve made flying the 727 so much easier on cross country trips
You can also use something like this if you want to do wind correction
E6B, NavLog Calculator, Weather Reports, METAR, TAF, Wind Components, Instrument Simulator, Weight and Balance, Pressure Altitude, Density Altitude, True Air Speed, and a lot more.
That's what I used when I did a almost fully dead reckoning flight from Nauru
Yeah I reckon wind correction will be needed
Fair winds over west coast afaik, and I need to get from Long Beach to Anchorage
You can also try and find some visual references. IIRC some Air Nauru crew used some islands to make sure they were going the right way
Tbh I reckon the best visual reference I could have is to just go along the coast
Canāt go wrong with that
In that case you're fine
Okay maybe going non-stop from Long Beach to Anchorage is not all that good of an ideaā¦
oh that should be fine with VORs
eek
Going along the coast would probably get it to 10
Not my longest flight ever of course
Yeah, maybe not too much longer tbh
But still
The difference is, all my 7-13 hour flights were done in RNAV-capable planes
And here, 9 hours in a DC-6
Brave š
Yeah, maybe best to get to Seattle first and think from there
Vfr refs would be a big help if weather permits
Oh absolutely
Literally just go along the coast
Would probably be fun to deliver a Douglas via Boeing Field
Landing on an enemy airfield xD
KLGB ANAHM1 VTU T257 RZS J126 OED J501 TOU J523 ANN J195 BKA J501 JOH YESKA6 PANC
@rustic charm
no need to do dead reckoning
Oh, so thereās a fair way of VORs
You could also do:
KLGB ANAHM1 VTU T257 RZS J501 TOU J523 ANN J195 BKA J501 JOH YESKA6 PANC
between YZP and BKA you can also "cut" straight through instead of going through ANN by doing it direct
so that would be either
KLGB ANAHM1 VTU T257 RZS J126 OED J501 TOU J523 YZP DCT BKA J501 JOH YESKA6 PANC
or
KLGB ANAHM1 VTU T257 RZS J501 TOU J523 YZP DCT BKA J501 JOH YESKA6 PANC
Yeah thatās fair
there's a good change of it not working properly in MSFS
because loads of VORs in the West Coast have terrible range for no apparent reason
so you might have to do some dead reckoning anyway, but at least it's a lot less than what were planning š
Oh yeah Iām pretty sure Iāve encountered that already lol
Tbh a lot of VORs in MSFS overall are rather weird
yeah you can't even follow some SID/STARs properly
I don't know, so far the vast majority of VORs not working as expected where there in the west coast
everywhere else they've been fine
east coast can be a bit wacky as well, but nowhere near as bad
Yeah, tbh not quite sure if I encountered much anywhere else
I gotta at some point try VOR to VOR in Russia
trying out the 747, cant get it to power up, even after watching through a tutorial series
it took me 4 hours to get the aircraft powered on and the FE panel configured, the pilots area configured, and the flight plan inserted
only to realize that my audio was bugged and not working, and that i had to restart
after some costly mistakes, im finally on the move
the biggest things ive learned so far is that you can climb fast, because that means you arent going to be as light as your flight plan expects, so you cant get fully up to cruise, you have to take it at the 747s regular climb thrust setting, which is only like 500fpm vertical
and to update your INS position, you need to choose a "waypoint" selection for the station you want to update from, and you have to keep your NAV radio selected to the station for the CIVA to get actual updates
make sure your flight plan doesnt have airways in it too, because then itll list out every intermediate waypoint in that airway, which is like 8 billion waypoints extremely close together, which is not good with the CIVA
the 9 waypoints that you get with the CIVA gets me all the way from EGLL to newfoundland, which is really good
I once got from Cold Bay, AK to Japan while using iirc just 8 waypoints
Just skip the ones you feel are unnecessary
You can program whatever you want
If you follow an airway that has loads of waypoints close together you can just program 2
CIVA doesn't know anything apart from coordinates, you're free to do whatever you want with it
Just like NoOne said, I only set waypoints that are needed to fix rhumb line/great circle errors (if following airways) or where there are direction changes
Did you mean, the earlier you go, the more research you have to do to make sure what you're doing is realistic because it's harder to find information from that time period? š„²
& doing things realistically takes even more effort because most of the old-timey planes I find have some form of more modern additions
The DC-6 for whichever reason has a digital DME display
The FSS 727 is actually rather good in representing the CIVA era, but even so Iām pretty sure it is not the original condition either. A newer autopilot that got added slightly later, the original one iirc has much less vertical control
Yeah unfortunately you have to draw a line somewhere otherwise you'd almost need a different plane for each flight
its a little bit easier to just clean up the plan in simbrief, that way you have parity between what your going to program into the CIVA and whats on your fplan
Fair enough
also, i finally found a solution for easy CIVA flight planning
This software converts .pln FSX flight plans to Carousel Inertial Navigation System IV/a (CIVA). Just save your FSX flight plan into any folder and drag and drop over ToCIVA icon for convert it. You can also open ToCIVA program and use file/Open and convert option from menu bar. By Aldo Dell Uomini.Screenshot of ToCIVA Flight Plan Converter.
you have to export your flight plan as a FSX plan, use that converter to convert it, and it spits out a pretty readable waypoint list
i just clean it up by putting them into blocks of 9
it doesnt give you all the info like the BAW flight plan, but its significantly faster, and makes it easy to keep track of what waypoints are what
Oh it even converts them to decimal
I always just approximate by "feel"
0" is .0, 30" is .5 and "59 is .9
i had to do that with INS updating, not my preferred way to do it
I just input the coordinates simbrief gives tbh
Honestly given how little difference the seconds make it doesn't really change much
In grand scheme of things the drift will a whole lot greater than a 5-10" difference...
Taking EI-EMJ for walkies
ive lost track on what attempt this is
to be fair though, the only reason i had to stop last night was because it was like 4:00AM and i had like 5 hours to go still
the DCS A-10 is on sale for $40, usually $80, so im extremely tempted
i need to scrape together 200GB somehow though, thats my biggest roadblock
if i can fly a 747-200, im confident i can fly an A-10, but definitely still kind of concerned about how hard of a jump its going ot be
i have the joystick for it at least
They have the best cars at Toulouse airport for ground crews
eh... i think i might hold off on getting DCS stuff until the summer sale
just learning the 742 has taken a lot out of me, plus combat aircraft are a whole other side of the aviation spectrum, just not really as interested once i watched some tutorials
its funny, you can really get a lot further than you think in just 9 waypoints
KMIA-KJFK can be done in just 7
and even thats a little cramped
I've heard quite a few people saying that it's a flying spreadsheet
but it's apparently one of (if not the) best aircraft in DCS in terms of system depth
A10 is not hard at all i do like the A10 because of its in depth tho better than most modules in dcs, The hind is quite cool to
Anyone tried C-46 Commando? suspect its very simcade
Which joystick
because if you're talking about the airbus sidestick one... that's not going to cut it on the A-10
The A-10C has 4 hats on the stick alone, plus another 5 on the throttle, plus buttons
What else would I use?
Usually for military people have military sticks
And tbh military sticks are what I see the most of, somehow there seems to be less civilian hardware
I wouldn't recommend buying one as they're fairly outdated tech-wise but that's the sort of button count you need to really consider flying the A-10
you can get away with something like a Saitek X-52 if you're happy to use modifier buttons
No don't
Do NOT buy that
The actual sensor and feel of the stick is actually terrible for the price
If you're not in VR you can just use the keyboard
Yeah, that's why I said that I wouldn't recommend buying one š
though the stick grip itself is pretty nice, i still have mine attached to the Virpil base
but yeah i don't think that anyone would have a good experience with an airbus sidestick
they're designed for flying a fairly simple aircraft
I genuinely think it does not matter
Unless you have a proper sim pit or you're in VR using the keyboard is fine.
Especially for air to ground
You can map important stuff to the hat switch and trigger, that's enough
I flew for a long time with the T16000M and the TWCS throttle and I never had a problem. I have mapped next to nothing on the stick itself, and only had flaps/speedbrake/gear/trim on the throttle and that was good enough
As long as you can control trim you're fine
What were you doing for TMS/DMS/CMS/Coolie Hat?
All keyboard bindings? That must have been pretty rough to memorise
Yeah, might be annoying
But still possible
Eventually it just becomes muscle memory
I'm fairly sure I can still press all the right buttons in the right order to fire a Maverick on the Harrier from a target I've acquired from the Tpod
But I've genuinely no idea what I'm pressing and I wouldn't be able to tell you now, I'd have to record me and my inputs while doing it and work backwards from there
Damn, that's commitment
Is it? I thought i thought it was just learning the plane?
Because I used to switch between so many different planes I tried to bind stuff as close as possible to the stick in the cockpit as possible, so it became easier to remember
I guess you'd try and bind key bindings for different aircraft as close as possible?
Since I mostly do aerobatics now I mostly just have the important things bound to the same place for all planes (smoke, flaps, airbrakes), and then I have the usual few buttons and now the hat switch in the warbird stick that I have free and set them to whatever is most useful
There are some exceptions, mostly the Harrier and Mirage because I set all the controls up before I got into aerobatics
x52's are ancient lmao
God, I got my original one like 15 years ago
Am on a warthog now actually but will eventually get something else
Virpil is the way to go imo
I've heard a lot of negative stuff about WinWing customer support
holy shit lmao
glad i did my cross the pond yesterday instead of today
8 billion 777s, A350s, and A380s, but only 10 B742s š
kids these days
Meanwhile me - fuck CTP, time for a DC-6 from Long Beach to Boeing Field
Trying out Elevatex with this flight too, imo itās quite nice
only 17 B748s
that one is literally free, has the same systems as the 777, and works awesome
I opted to cross the other pond
I do pond hops regularly so missing out on CTP isn't a big dealbreaker for me, though I was considering deploying the MD11 if I got a slot
Tbh considering I donāt fly vatsim there is absolutely no difference for me whether itās CTP or not
I guess this was a great excuse to fly a scheduled transatlantic though
I tried to fly online EGKK-MROC
realised my mistake when the delivery controller at gatwick asked if i was ok waiting an hour for a slot
Cause funny enough I have flown scheduled over the Atlantic the same amount of times as a delivery across the Atlantic
I totally forgot to book a slot when it was time
but to be fair I'm kind of stepping away from flight simming a bit in general since I left a big community I was part of š«¤
Thatās a shame, but at least youāre here still
I mean, for me, there are 2 places where I talk about flight simming basically
Here, and a DM with a friend
Bit funny that my main place to talk about planes is a train sim server where I talk about planes more than about trains
I still havenāt tried out VATSIM, it kind of scares the shit out of me
fucked it on the landing because my GF flashed me on face time š
That is a weird situation
But the landing is fine, it could be worse xD
I totally fucked up my landing today, the poor DC-6 bounced like 6 times
Once I get it to Fairbanks it is going right into storage for repairs lol
thats one thing i really want to do, make my own fictional airline with its own fleet
Well, I have given thought to starting a fictional VA
But making something brand new fictional is too much for me
Plus, I donāt fly fictional anyway so thatād be weird
So Iām in the process of setting up a kinda VA
But at the same time, itās not gonna be a VA in the common way, as I really dislike the obligatory way they are handled. āYou must first prove yourself, then you must maintain activity, you must provide a handwritten 10-page report after every flightā to hell with that
Canāt we just have fun? If I wanted to do paperwork, I wouldāve downloaded a paperwork simulator instead
So instead Iām just planning out a virtual alliance between several smaller cargo airlines in North America that will be rather niche and hopefully people will just enjoy flying those
tbf I don't mind activity requirements, the VA im with (Fly UK) requires you to file a PIREP every month or so
2 months if you let it run through the inactivity side
I like fictional VAs that are done well, with liveries that actually stand out
instead of bum bandit airways that have a boring ahh livery
Happy Birthday ngc š
Happy birthday!

I'm not really interested in fictional VAs, most of the appeal for me is to recreate real stuff š
Same here
i joined that fedex VA, but its been a while since ive picked up the MD-11, just because ive been busy learning other stuff
thankfully its just 1 pirep every 90 days, and if i dont do at least 1 fedex flight every 90 days id be shocked
Tbh the only airline Iād be confident in flying constantly is Aeroflot
All others for me are really on and off
While for Aeroflot I think there hasnāt been a single month without a flight
Since the start of April Iāve had 5 scheduled flights, I am almost done with another one now, and I have done one delivery too
I am a bit lost regarding what to do now
I just completed a flight
I had 2 flight trackers running - Volanta and Elevatex
And somehow I have a 10 minute difference in flight time readings
Elevatex says 7:57, Volanta says 8:07
And I have a spreadsheet with all my planes where I keep track of times and stuff, and idk which one to add
id go with the longer, dont be afraid to inflate your hours
hell, people apply to airlines overexaggerating their hours massively
Iāll probably do the opposite, I always pride myself in getting places quickly
Although tbh in this case, quickly isnāt the word
I was hoping for 7:15-7:20
Luckily I only have 1 reg that now is a different plane among the ones I fly
C-FCJU, used to be a Cargojet 722 (the one I fly), now is a Cargojet 763
Tbh a bit annoying cause Elevatex doesnāt yet seemingly support having several different airframes for the same reg, and when you try to add that one, it automatically gives you the 763. But Iām sure things like these will soon be improved
why is it that the winds in new york are always the worst place to land on planet earth
33019G32KT
i was landing on 31R and i was literally being blown sideways on landing
i ended up striking the engine, because the wind was so fucking bad that it just picked up my right wing and almost flipped me over
otherwise it was an extremely smooth landing
panam might be lufthansa for me, i literally cant do a flight with them just because of bad luck
i might give it another shot but flipped, JFK to MIA
Bit late but Iāve only had one negative experience in VATSIM, otherwise Iāve had a good time with ATC
As long as youāre semi competent with the aircraft you take on the network & you arenāt a paint sniffer then youāll do fine
I recommend, as many others do to start at a small airport thats staffed, gets you established with radio comms

VATSIM moment
Nice new budget ish stick from virpil - twist grip with optional little diddle thottle levers
As we continue to shift things into ever-increasing gears here at the Synaptic development team, weād like to share some of the exciting new progress made on the Synaptic A220 Airliner for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024. Some of you may have already seen some of the excitement from our ...
Welp, installing the 727 pax, finally got it

speaking of the pax 727
ive been thinking of doing that livery for ages, but baremetal is hard to acomplish
For me any livery editing/creation is just magic lol
I have no idea how to work in any photoshop-like software
I literally asked a friend if he could help me change the regs on some liveries
default xplane systems

that does not spark joy
or does it just look like that
still waiting for the aerobask falcon tbh
Well tbh
The -200ER pack is actually probably more worth it than the -300ER
At the very least you get 3 different engines
finally giving a shot with my own fictional airline
The location, the airline?
A220ās kinda just look like that
I think it might be āsomeā custom systems for sure based upon the XP default systems
A bit like how the Zibo and Sparky were first done
I assume @echo gorge meant this
Huh, Iāve never seen that before
Just a coincidence I guess, Pittsburghās primary colors being yellow and black, plus I really love the design of the nose black on aircraft
I sure love having only 3 options when it comes to flights, some airports only giving you 1 option
We should just merge all airlines until we have THE American airlineā¢ļø
Northeast is lovely
I really hope someone makes a 727 livery soon
Cause first of all, having an airline that operates 727 with a hub at Boston Logan⦠that is wonderful. Still one of my favourite big airports
Then also we have Piedmont 727s and those were initially delivered to Northeast, having NE would mean I can properly deliver one
ahahahah I found myself in a terrible situation
I've been busy these days so I just popped this as a request and said to myself "oh hopefully someone does it before I'll have the time and will to do it myself"
BUT, because that person did the 10USD thing, if I do it now it'll look like I was just trying to make money, that would make me look like a giant douchebag
thinking of accepting the request but asking the guy to not give me money
or just eliminating it, I don't even want the karma or whatever they call their points
Welp, just boarded another flight. Going to Guangzhou for a week, and probably not gonna have discord access at all
if thereās any news worth noting, ping me, Iāll read once Iām back
W?
china
jealous
Have a nice trip
the flying dutchman
it says Fr*nce though
Scream if you love Estonia
shortest taxi in EHAM
shitty takeoff, for some reason autopilot didnt want to engage, and when it did it didnt enable LNAV, so it looks like i took off drunk
msfs when
LNAV disconnected a second time when i was away :/
i think my fan blew my chair enough for it to bump the yoke and disconnect LNAV
Fr*nce š lol
yoke needs to be centred on the zibo/levelup

hm
knowing boeing
this ain't happening
the option in the EFB? i already have that setup
This person was 100% serious btw
lmao
probably not going to do it on VATSIM, and probably not going to do it the day of, but im definately going to take part
honestly, the yoke is kind of becoming annoying more than it is useful, setting it up every flight, and then i have to work around it to use the keyboard and mouse
i find myself just wanting to use my xbox controller again, same results for less setup and more flexibility as far as desk space
the sparky 747 continues to be a fucking enigma to me
how is it so highly regarded if it just does not work like an aircraft???
i cant get the engines to start no matter what i try
takeoff was actually normal, my engine gauges were fine on the ground but theyre bouncing all over the place again, and it overshot my selected altitude by 320ft, and my cabin altitude is critical and i have no clue why
really?
i spoke way too soon, my display just crashed
coming back into MSFS after playing xplane for so long feels so weird
i definitely chose the worst aircraft to get back into MSFS with, the 717 is... not good
better aircraft
theres some stuff i wish MSFS had that xplane has, and vice versa
a simrate thats based off of ground speed being the big one, allows you to zoom through flights without any lag when you increase the simrate
and i wish xplane had the control customization that MSFS has
ugh... the urge to buy chaseplane...
Demonstration of ChasePlane⢠physics in MSFS.
ChasePlaneā¢...the ultimate camera system for Microsoft Flight Simulator.
š AVAILABLE NOW: https://parallel42.com/products/chaseplane
that looks so good
Iām going to be honest Iāve had none of these issues running the sparky
When I was on 11 I was running an older version of it
I can find that version for you and Iāll send it your way if you need
I've got it, it's lovely
Just the benefit of being able to import your views seamlessly between planes is a gamechanger
Thanks, the flight was lovely
Tbh Aeroflotās comfort class really got improved since the last time I tried it
actually me fr
The other day I tried the default MSFS top gun missions after watching the movies, and theyāre not good
I donāt know if itās me or the default F-18 though
The only experience I have with fighters is VTOL VR, and those are extremely simplified
Probably a bit of both
Poor MiG-29
i bought chaseplane
i couldnt resist the headshake stuff
and especially if i have an MSFS flight lined up, id like to get it before i start the flight and not after
my finances are very rapidly slipping out of my control
the default superhornet is very mid
tbh, MSFS' flight modelling doesn't really do fighter aircraft justice
holy shit, chaseplane is the best $30 ive ever spent
the default camera feels like your trying to move through molasses
chaseplane actually feels snappy and responsive, like xplane's
eh, because its a third party addon it doesnt like to communicate with the default control bindings
i really enjoyed having my trim set to RB + rstick up/down, but because chaseplane overrides the right stick to camera movement, you cant have it like that

will we ever learn
another mid-air is inevitable
Oof, you can't bind it?
you can, but i also like right stick to control the camera
so its either/or
it kind of unintentionally worked out though, the shoulder buttons are assigned to trim in xplane, and i can directly translate that over to MSFS
nope, it didnt work out, i have RB + B to idle the throttles, and that trims too
thankfully just bumping the trim isnt super disruptive, but it is annoying
That would absolutely drive me mad
it certainly is driving me mad too
I thought that would quality as "very disruptive" lol
i guess i could make my AP disco button both AP and AT at the same time, but then what would i do for idle
I think if I were to fly with a stick I'd have left stick to control the plane, triggers for yaw, bumpers for throttle
thats actually not a bad idea
though, if youd want to adjust trim, youd either have to take your left thumb off of the stick, or reach over with your right thumb
I think I'd have Y and A for trim (so I could easily use the right hand while flying)
Maybe Dpad left/right for A/T and A/P toggle
Dpad up/down for flaps
And B and A for spoilers/speedbrake
Unfortunately no space for gear though
the only issue is that a instant idle button is kind of important, because of the way MSFS does its throttle stuff, if you go too far back on the throttles without seeing that theyre at idle, it instantly goes into reverse
which is annoying on taxi
toe brakes too
Oh yeah that's important too
Then I guess instead of speedbrake/spoilers, toe brakes and idle on B and A?
Although not having spoilers is a huge pain
Same for gear
i dont touch the spoilers often enough to worry about having a controller binding for it
It's not about how much I use them, they are one of the flight controls I need to be able to move without diverting attention to flying
Having to look down at the pedestal, move the curson and move them is way too big of a burden
Same for gear tbh
But those are the compromises you need to make if you fly with a controller I guess
gear i always have bound, because of takeoff/landing, but if im going to use the speed brake, 99 times out of 100 im going to be on AP and monitoring speed
Yeah but what if you need to remove them as you're leveling off?
You need to watch altitude, speed and removing the spoilers at the same time, unless you want A/T to throttle up way too much
Then you remove the spoilers, A/T doesn't realise instantly, overshoots the speed, then goes almost idle to recapture the speed, etc...
like this
of course that assumes your instruments are reliable, but this is in-sim and on an xbox controller, they are reliable
Fair enough, wouldn't work in the A320 though š
yeah it would, i know it does because thats how i flew it before i got the airbus stuff
another massive issue, is that if i were to use my actual yoke, i dont have rudders, and MSFS doesnt have an option to choose what the tillers use
in xplane, you at least have the option for the tillers to use roll intead of yaw

lightbulb
using the bumpers as shift keys is extremely handy, the only issue is that you kind of have to ignore the axis' with them because of camera
xplane doesnt think about the bumpers as shift keys though, its purely just 1 button for 1 input, so that control scheme isnt possible to transfer 1:1
i could even do bumper dpad up/down for speedbrakes
for some reason speedbrakes dont want to move with keybinds, but arming works
not to spam 8 billion tiny variations, but this is kinda my final control setup
oh fuck yeah, chaseplane will automatically switch to cinematic mode after 5 minutes of inactivity, which makes cruise really cool
great fun with HMD on too
I am also currently virtually aviating
MSFS VOR moment...
Xplane spoiled me so much
I'll probably pick up MVC at 70NM if I'm lucky, 40 if I'm not
well, theyre both low-altitude VORs
yeah it's probably realistic
Xplane would have given both of them 70NM I think
if not more
i think low altitude is 70-40nm, high altitude is 100+
that's what I meant by Xplane spoling me
It dependsā¢ļø
but that's roughly right
although both of them were 40 in MSFS š„²
in Xplane it would have been on the edge but fine (70 outbound 70 inbound)
most likely
if you're over southern louisiana, then i would definitely have expected 70 tbh
to be fair, I should have gone through SJI
but thought I could (literally) cut that corner
ive made that mistake many times, especially when it comes to planning my own routes š
first flight back in MSFS
weird landing, floated, but the runways at YSSY are meant for like A380s and shit, so no biggie
situational awareness overrides technique in that case
its kind of funny how my top 3 smoothest landings have all been in xplane
B742, B739, and B752, all under 100fpm
sim decided it was wintery in Ireland for some reason
but thats another pond hop in the bag
I watching Pink Floyd the wall, Concorde jumpscare
Yep, DC9
If flying the DC-6 and the 727 taught me anything, that is that MSFS VORs suck
Thatās why my latest flight, DC-6 KBFI to PANC, I literally was planning to dead reckon the whole way. Then ended up going VFR (cause I realised that I was east of the Rockiesā snow caps and I definitely shouldnāt have been east of the Rockies)
Also the DC-6 is so fun, Iāve done 3 flights in it and that airframe literally has 3 engines in critical condition and one engine in bad condition
Before Xplane I definitely had the opinion that they weren't that bad
I think I genuinely just got spoiled
IXEG 737? :(
thats another one that im dying to get, but only XP12 now, they completely discontinued the XP11 version
ey, I also flew the classic today
yeah, I had to get rid of some dust from my tricorne hat and eye patch for that unfortunately,
i was thinking the same thing, but in my sailing i havent found the right island to hunt for treasure yet
i wish they would have done the same thing as rotate with their MD-80, leave the XP11 version up, with extremely rare updates, so it's at least available if you want to try it at your own risk
playing xplane made me realize how shit it runs for me
medium w 20 fps
msfs high w 80
im doin smh wrong
definitely, for me its the complete opposite
the robots are going to kill us one day
WHY DOES HE WANT TO KNOW ABOUT MY SETUP
WHY DOES HE KNOW IM INTO FLIGHT SIM
i wish
also xp just looks kinda junk for me
idk how everyones looks good
autoortho all the way
thats using ME
that's decent apart from the lighting
although, not the paid version
it might just be a weird or old capture then
what is ME?
map enhancement
I have everything completely stock
I only use Active Sky for the weather
every day its like i find another reason to upgrade to xplane 12
US airways does flights between pittsburgh and frankfurt in A330-300s, which happens to be the default airbus in xp12
plus hawaiian has a bunch, its my first airbus in xplane, and the freighter is cool too
and the F-14 too, but i dont know how often id fly that one
i think the default MD-80 got a big upgrade too? i've heard the default one is actually worth flying in XP12
its from 1985, so kind of early into its life
Fuck⦠thereās a Family Guy episode in the newest season where Brian gets into flight simulators
Model trains and flight simulators are the surface level āwow these hobbies are for sad old menā hobbies
Well
Flight sim is my number 1 way of dealing with sadness and depression
So thatās not totally wrong, although Iām not old
I cannot be arsed to watch stuff like Family Guy or South Park
I like animation, but I like things to be more "wholesome" than purely cynical
Never watched any of it apart from occasional yt shorts
Tbh I mostly just watch youtube, no tv shows, films or series most of the time
the default asobo 747-8 is very underrated
flies awesome, doesnt have the depth as something like PMDG, but on the surface level its pretty realistic
for being literally free especially
autothrottle screwed me a bit, i thought it disarmed but it did not
the 747s are fun because theyre very easy landers, theyre heavy so they sink quick which is good for people who overflare like me, and those giant ass wings will slow you down quick when you flare
It's good, just wish they flew some shorter routes. One trip from Seattle to Alaska was long enough for me, can't imagine crossing the pacific with it
crossing the pacific is probably one of the hardest things you can do in a flight sim, itās the ultimate endurance challenge
For civvie sims sure, it's hard to find the time
Itās just you, the plane, and infinite water for 8 hours
this is the way to fly in the pacific
Or this
Now imagine if itās just you, the 727, 7 hours of water and clearly not enough fuel to make it
Thatās for now the only way I crossed the Pacific lol
And Iām gonna be redoing that soon enough
The whole flight was a roller coaster of
āI think Iām fine, Iāll make itā
āIāM NOT MAKING ITā
āThis seems to be fineā
LAX-HNL
ifly?
Yessir
The first flight Iāve done with it was only a short hop from Burbank to Las Vegas
It was mainly for handling training & practicing landings
the ifly and the fenix are two of the best purchases i have ever made for MSFS
kind of controversial, but ive enjoyed the ifly max 8 much more than the PMDG 737s
PMDG kind of feels stuck in their own ways
I like the iFly, just want compatibility with FS24
last ive heard, thats pretty close?
Yea seems like it, feel with FS24 we have a decent amount of Airbus Narrowbody & Widebody, just need a Boeing narrowbody
Then I could be half tempted to switch sims in fairness
im not sure if anyone here has much experience in hardware maintenance, but my airbus stick is starting to feel kinda dry, it has some dust and crumbs in the ball part of it and its starting to feel kinda grind-y
im interested in what to use as far as cleaning, grease, and dust-free storage goes
Nyogel 767a is the recommended grease iirc
Holy shit, $15/oz
Is it just silicone grease otherwise?
Or I could pull a Boeing and use dish soap
FUCK ME
why do I enjoy watching this stuff?
just realized I spent 20 minutes looking at that video
I swear, if I describe to people what kind of stuff I enjoy they'd guess I'm at the very least in my 50s
Guess I'll go back to making my Hughes Airwest livery for the DC-9 š„²
why am I like this
Edinburgh
Early morning departure out of Burbank for a transcontinental flight to Sarasota
the A380 continues to dissapoint
i have a mod that makes all textures 1k maximum and it is STILL extremely laggy
i really want to make a mod that removes just the empty holes into the fuselage and puts those MSFS faux windows in its place, because having nothing in there makes it look like garbage
makes me feel like im on my old PC again, 20FPS
performs worse than the fenix now, funnily enough
wtf, MSFS is only usinmg 20% GPU?
it is not a viable long-haul candidate compared to literally any other aircraft
i am now realizing a massive design flaw with autoortho
the cache folder contains 7 million files, all around 15-20kb
nevermind
del /f /s /q "D:\Archive\autoortho_release\cache\*.*" works extremely well
it even gives you an output log of every file its deleting, which is helpful for tracking progress
bear metal
wasn't satisfied with the quality of the baremetal livery that's available
it turned into a "oh ill just fix the metallic channel" to "im redoing the entire livery to the point where i can release this"
s h i n y
the 742 is not an easy aircraft to get the approach right
its okay to land, but approach is the killer
too close of a final and youll stall out and crash in the rush to get down to speed, and too slow of a final approach speed means youll stall out when you get near the runway
Lol
Someone forgot to secure a trolley in the back galley
Thatās what happens to a FD Door when something is pelted at full speed from the other end of the aircraft
Oof! Someone looking for a new job?
I would imagine so
:(
cant import a coroute, cant manually input the route because the route page wont take airways, even with the latest airac
nevermind, trying to import a company route just breaks the route page
is this an ancient ixeg version?
i got it sorted, but its 1.33
huh, interesting, with 1.33 you should even be able to do your own custom waypoints
nice to hear that you sorted that out
i dont mind manually typing flight plans, infact i actually kind of like the programming, but obviously sometimes its just easier to import it
oh I see, yeah I always do it manually
that's probably why I never ran into that
but you should be able to use airways
they always worked for me
yeah, if you try to import a flight plan and it gives an error, the route page breaks, resetting the aircraft fixes it
ah fair, the only times I broke it was when I tried to load some procedures for Tegel
I think it conflicted with the latest airac in some way
it wouldnt surprise me if its user error, i really hate how every aircraft needs its own seperate flight plan format in xplane
hm, for some reason i cant arm LNAV or VNAV on the ground either
no throttle movement either?
apparently xpuipc is an issue with it
yeah same
I always assumed it was a limitation of the plane?
I always take off in HDG mode, then switch to LNAV, FLC and increase the speed as soon as I can
downgraded xpuipc and the throttles work now
i love flight simulators
if im lucky i might be able to take off before 7:00 tonight
after troubleshooting for 1 1/2 hours
I donāt think I ever imported a flight plan xD
I either donāt use the FMC at all or type it in manually
yeah, doesnt work, it only goes up to 1.2
thats kind of depressing, you really cant do VOR to VOR in canada
finally gave kyiv a visit
it was more of a challenge than i expected, there's no weather stations in ukraine at the moment, so i had to use (incorrect) weather data out of belarus
its also the first time ive flown an airbus in like 4-5 months, which was fun, the fenix performed great too
Try a wizz 321 into Zhuliany
Very fun
what do u use for the camera?
As far as the stills go, just the default one
you might get lucky with NDBs
but they have a god awful range in MSFS
Donāt NDBs in MSFS only work for like 50 ish miles?
Really in Canada there is not much in terms of navaids overall
Not many airports either
Itās empty
Try doing that over the Canadian north, itās nothing but bears
To fly over northern Canada youāll really need at least an INS or GPS preferably
If you're lucky yes
@rustic charm is this Khabarovsk?
Thatās Krasnoyarsk
I'm sure this is, and it seems pretty similar
Oh, thanks š
ahah yeah
Was looking for Vladivostock-Khabarovsk flights to link my Volanta flights
Oh nice
Tbh I hope to some day find some paper editions of old Aeroflot timetables
Some interesting flights there
yeah I really like flying there, soviet airliners+sunrise (when flying at around this time for me)
Yeah, makes sense
I like that area overall tbh
Itās a beautiful part of the world
indeed, big shame Xplane doesn't to it justice, but neither does MSFS to be completely honest, the satellite and photogrammetry there is pretty appalling
I should get more flights in Japan though. And with the 727 it is gonna be nice, there are good ANA liveries. Just need to know a delivery route
it's awesome flying non-RNAV there, although I'm waiting for someone to make the JAS Rainbow livery for the 777
Yeah, tbh, at least Xplane has some nice airport sceneries Iām pretty sure
Oh that looks fun
Yeah, I also think you have the 777, I'm sure you can find some short haul japanese domestic flights š
Cause in MSFS thereās nothing for UHWW, UHHH, UHSS, UHMM⦠UHPP has a ādecent enoughā level freeware version
I have actually found some dirt cheap payware for various airports in the region but all of those are sold by tiny devs, mostly through VK, which seem to be not active anymore, and purchasing seems to no longer work
I see
