others can type and I see their messages pop up yet I cant respond

Steps taken:
Spawn in, mess with Town menus a little.
Go outside (north-west), mess with neutral units a little, fire some abilities.
Go to farm (town south), be impressed that crops survived for five years unattended.
FINALLY notice that chat went MIA.
