While I understand the direction of the town system (and overall think it can be a good feature), having traditional menus is an accessibility requirement. For a game that has near full gamepad support (an accessibility feature) traditional menus pair well with gamepads, making the game overall more accessible. Forcing the only option to be town goes against gamepad support. One of the Key features this game had, was that it was an RTS with unmatched accessibility features. Town should not be the default, or at very least there needs to be an alternative.
#Re-introduce a traditional Menus option for accessibility

I see what you're saying but that's a HUD, and it's very busy, and also still not that gamepad friendly. This thread is more about the accessibility of traditional start menu, like for example, Fortnight, or COD, or the vast majority of games out there use. but back onto your image, the issue with that HUD is it's not designed with gamepads/accessibility in mind, it's still designed with a keyboard in mind, which is the opposite direction this thread is meant to cover. Think about it from this perspective, you are someone who uses a gamepad/controller because it makes games accessible to you, when you go to play the game instead getting a menu you can navigate you get dropped into town and you can't play the game because it's not actually accessible to you, despite having gamepad support.
I seem to recall the devs saying they were planning on adding the menu back in, but I don’t think it was high on the priority list. Can’t seem to find the post on short notice.
no worries, but it really should be higher on the priority list if there is one. Having accessible menus will prevent new players from being turned away, before even giving the game a chance.
Honestly I'd just learn the menu hotkeys
Sure menu hotkeys make navigation quicker on a keyboard, but it doesn't change the accessibility factor. Gamepads and menus that can be navigated with gamepads (and in general good menus) make the game more accessible. No denying your point but it's not on the track of the thread.
But then that same argument goes for the interactive map no?
I get your mind. 😉
My idea is one Main button open menus, Swipe up and right to display two sets of menus. you can call it HUD, but its menu.
I only considered part of what I care about.
And player has option to change it in settings.
The actual design needs further consideration to improve the content.
The basic idea is that the upper column shows the battle/cooperation. Display the configuration such as items/messages on the right line.
two directions also convenient for gamepad
There is no doubt that menus are easier to operate and identify. Even though 3D buttons are cuter and more interesting. Unfortunately, new users need to spend more time to know the whole town.
About the traditional menus. I think that may affect the appearance of the town.
