I had a casual conversation with one of the station characters. I'm trying to remember the name but it isn't coming to me atm. But they talked about how various corporations would develop each station piece mail with different engineering components just to avoid infringing on copyrighted materials and patents, which makes maintaining them a nightmare.

This got me thinking about helping make sense of these systems, about corporate culture, and more importantly, about what my character can do to help with this.

Stations right now seem fairly small. There's a hub area but that's really it as far as I have seen thus far. I want to explore the station, and dig into its skeleton. Find out what makes it tick, and help out my fellow Jovians adapt.

Basically, I want to go on missions WITH the NPC characters.

I think this would help immensely with immersion. Not just with dating characters, but generally making the world feel more alive and making peoples efforts feel like its having an impact, and it makes the characters feel like they're doing stuff, y'know. I wanna trudge knee-deep in waste to fix a broken flow regulator with another character. I wanna make sense of some wiring for Mordon, or assisting in processing a body for Andrea. I understand NPCs will have quests, but I wanna rub shoulders with em rather than running to and fro FOR them, if you understand. It feels special when you can work alongside a character, rather than just always doing something FOR them.

And on a similar topic: as of right now, many NPCs kinda stand at designated locations. They don't do much. The daily chats are a gem and really makes each interaction unique, but beyond just chatting, everyone should be doing something with their hands. Duck should be knitting or something. Tinkering. Hell even sitting or reading a book. There's a manner in which one can add more 'activity' to the downtime of fellow Jovians to make them feel more alive.

going on missions with npcs is probably out of scope for us. we are working on having more ways to discover NPCs and maybe even visit their ships eventually. We're also working on their idle focus animations to be doing stuff, so that's def coming 🙂

Would meeting somewhere in the middle by having them "on Comms" while we are doing a directed task for them work at all? So no animation just dialogue boxes popping up in reaction to us getting the particular piece of junk they wanted or directing us to a planet we have not yet discovered?
