I'm a former patron. The game updated on steam but I'm still unable to access the new trial and expanded movesets. Do I need to refresh my subscription to get those or is this just a bug?

What do you mean by "new trial?"
Update should download fine, the final trial in the training room isn't available yet it will be available on full demo release, the movesets are the same it's just a new menu in compendium which gives you descriptions of all the moves and some tips and tricks
Make sure you have normal demo build and it's not a beta test branch
