Picture this: Glyde overtime while he smashed up these dark crystals all the dark energy could start festering inside of Glyde, making his Anger, Hatred, Agression even stronger to the point where Glyde could bearly contain it while the dark energy could start taking him over like a Symbiote from Spider-man 3. Giving him his own dark transformation which could be his own Rage mode where it can be filled up by fighting enemies.

#

Plus (and I know this may sound out of place) have a raw black metal track as his Corrupted form theme

glossy mesa
#

Glyde already has a wide range of elemental abilities. I think without any specific story-beats this would be too close to things like Spider-man, Dark Spyro, Jack and Daxter, and countless other "corrupted hero" mechanics

viral inlet
#

@glossy mesa that's kind of what I want actually. But if you and the rest of the glyde fans are not on board with the idea. That's understandable

glossy mesa
#

always worth seeing what people think. But it's important to consider that Glyde is already visually similar to stuff like The Legend of Spyro, so it's important to consciously avoid having too many overlaps

I get ya and yeah speaking of that game Glyde in some form of way have been my near-definitive answer to TLOS Successor (for me anyways) since I loved A New Beginning when I was a kid

#

Plus I missed the mid-2000s when things got edgy

It's true that even if the idea is nice it would be very spyro, but it's nice if we are special ennemi dragon, i think make suggestion about it because it's not like this

Eh, I personally disagree

#

I've never felt it an interesting concept
But I'm open to being proven wrong

daring zodiac
#

I think the person who wrote this did a pretty bad job of explaining it though

#

Guess it just comes down to if you like the trope or not

rustic vapor
#

Yeah and I'm not fond of the trope in general

daring zodiac

Although evil rage mode is a different trope then say spiderman venom

Different strokes etc

Like if you intentionally spend enough time in the corruption without dying you transform into a corrupted element or something until you leave for a while, or something. A myriad of possible ways it could work

A pain I know all too well from my mind saying "wouldn't [x] be cool" and me having to object with "yes but it wouldn't fit"

#

But hey, free sequel ideas

daring zodiac
#

I really dislike how this post is initially worded and titled and the bad venom comparison

But the idea and trope itself is usually very fun though

I am very personally against dark forms/corrupted forms this way

flat wadi
#

yeah they are so generic and overused

#

well same as corruption stuff 😋

Hmmm, I think this has been mentioned in the interview with @crisp trench
If my memory is correct

vast temple
#

honestly, i think it would be intresting if glyde gets corrupted and passes out and someone has to heal him like he did for the others

#

but an actualy corrupt form wouldnt be right

Ive heard this mentioned a few times now. I think without proper story beats to go with it, it definitely would feel like just recycling the corrupted hero trope, which Im indifferent to.

That said, the idea of being able to access a different elemental form is very on key with Glyde's current movepool. I think I saw it talked about in one of the other chats a while back, but the idea of Glyde being able to activate some "empowered form" would be neat. I think the mechanic could work well as a No-Element Ultimate. Rather than being a big explosion of damage just a smaller stun/launcher on enemies nearby, afterwards Glyde could gain some aura that powers up his melee attacks and neutral form abilities.

In effect could be similar for whats been suggested here, but without the need for it to be strictly due to corruption/evil power. This is how TLoS handles the concept via Fury Mode, where in effect most activations are very similar to Glyde's ultimates, with Fury in TLoS 3 being more like just a buff + super laser breath for a short while. Fury in Spyro context is alluded to as just drawing upon the power of ancestral dragons and unleashing the ultimate form of an element, with Dark Spyro being a separate thing entirely (though often portrayed as similar in function where he does appear)

I had more to say but feel like Im derailing the topic a bit, so Ill leave it at that for now!

side question: how the nature dragon can be corrupted? That's real ingame, but what about story/lore based mechanics of this?

And after the hit they lost their magic so they can't heal themselves anymore

daring zodiac
#

They got no magic no more 😔

Sad, but from the intro: what caused this? Being hit by the dark light beams or corruption's area touches everyone nearby, like a radiation?

Gonna add my (late) 2 cents to this idea:

Some of the stuff is retreading old ideas from prior in this post but I'll keep it concise; A Corruption/Rage form is, while very cool in concept, also rather unfitting for Glyde himself, however, the idea of a dragon using the corruption as an element, or it corrupting glyde are some pretty interesting reinterpretations. I'll talk about my thoughts on them one at a time.

Starting with a Corruption form: In my opinion, it would be ill-fitting for Glyde himself to have a corruption form, however I DO like the possibility that perhaps another dragon encountered in his adventures has a corruption form, or has turned the corruption into a pseudo-element, and must be fought as a miniboss, or even a full on boss depending on how important the story treats them.

As for corrupting Glyde, an interesting idea I thought of is that, at some point in the story, Glyde enters an unwinnable situation and gets corrupted even with all the abilities he has, falling unconcious and entering his own nightmare. After this, two scenarios could happen;

Scenario 1: A guest party member will be informed of this event via story, and becomes the POV character for a short time, fighting or sneaking past enemies to find and rescue Glyde so he can be cleansed before the nightmare finishes him off. This could also have a time limit of some sort where they must race against time before the corrutpion finishes off Glyde.

Scenario 2: Glyde wakes up in his own nightmare, and now must fight against the nightmares for a set period of time until someone finds his body and wakes him up. This could also be interpreted as a forced loss scenario where no matter how hard Glyde tries, the enemy doesn't go down until the cutscene plays where he almost succumbs to the corruption, but is rescued at the last moment.

Of course, the corruption being the main driving force of the game and it being capable of so much makes me rather interested in how this could be done.

#

So Dark Spyro, but Glyde

rich gale
#

I don't know. Glyde feels too cheery to suddenly go dark. I'd understand a powered up state or overcharged state where Glyde loses control a bit, but the most dark I see Glyde himself being if he had such a form would be Tko from Ok ko

that could have impact for ending of game, especially if you could defeat final boss in this form

#

I could rather ssugest purplish dragon fruits (rare in game) for fill fury mode

This suggestion always gets bumped back up for some reason and I think it's so funny

putting my 2$ into this with a - I want this to be a thing, it kinda makes sense with Glyde interacting with all the corruption, the magic has to go somewhere and with him being the main dragon cleansing it, its gotta effect him SOMEHOW, make him edgy sometimes? Say some edgy stuff? Hell, make it a boss battle where Glyde passes out and your in a arena 1v1 with your dark self, a battle to vanquish ones demons and cleanse yourself once and for all

vast temple
#

....hmmm why not make it a tutorial thing? each fight gets harder and harder, and you have to clense at the begining of each chapter, and have to learn new skills/deal more damage consistant to what you would expect for the chapter?

prime oriole
#

That sounds a bit like Eternal Night, I dont want a tutorial section for a corrupted mode
I want a Dark Glyde, I want Rage of the Primordial's mode, I want to fill a rage bar on the UI (slow to charge) and then unleash it when I need it, going absolutely all out on a selected enemy for 10 seconds or so, where Glyde does double damage, has double strike speed, looks badass (skin swap?) and maybe an epic latin soundtrack like Dawn of the Dragon (Aether mode)?
I want to feel like a badass dragon, maybe Im asking too much

#

Definitely asking for too much

quasi spindle
#

We all can dream 😌✨ I think corruption should be included in Glyde’s elements, because it’s just obvious and logical

loud vine
#

after such attack he should sit down in extreme weakness (visually), with heavy breathing and some recharge time, the anim itself should not be too long to not break movements style of the game. (lets say Glyde can barely walk after this for 12 seconds, instant recovery from attack is 5 seconds, then controls is restored)

prime oriole
#

A cost for using the rage mode? I'd be okay with that

wide relic
#

This would be an awesome idea. corrupted glyde. only curable by the Nature Element would make sense. After all, you heal the other dragons and cleanse the corrupted area's

tulip rock
#

I love that this thread somehow keeps coming back XD

That said, I will add my 2 cents (again) to say that Corruption mode for Glyde seems a bit ill-fitting for him, at least, if it were to just activate by itself, or for Glyde to activate it on his own accord.

Unless a major enemy does something like, FORCE the corruption onto Glyde and a corruption mode spawns from it, then yeah. And even then, I still feel like considering the tone of this game, I feel like this possibility would remain cutscene-only since Gylde's toolkit is already crazy big.

The more logical conclusion however, is after the one-time-use-only corruption mode, Glyde passes out, and has to fight his nightmares to wake up, or is thrown into a hopeless boss fight situation where he's either powerless or his enemy is just too strong and puts the player at a massive disadvantage until the next cutscene plays and it's revealed someone else saved him at the last minute.

loud vine
#

that sounds awesome lore-wise 👆 but more fitted for multiplayer (coop, it wont be online game)

prime oriole
#

I will respectfully disagree with the ill-fitting statement seeing as again, Glyde is the only dragon cleansing the corruption, it makes sense for it to effect him in some way
I do agree on maybe a one-time-use and then passing out and having to fight a hard boss with your wings tied

#

Isnt Glyde hit with it to get knocked out in the demo intro?

#

If he was immune it wouldnt knock him out, no?

#

Or it wouldn't cause him to then plummet to the ground to then get knocked out

#

If the gift of being immune is GIVEN to glyde from one of the Primordial's, sure, probably the Nature Primordial

#

But isnt the entire mechanic of you taking damage from the corruption a thing for a progress/mechanic, if your just IMMUNE makes that entire mechanic useless

#

Maybe Im thinking about this too much

bronze mantle
#

I wouldn't say immune but considering (ending spoilers) ||he wakes up from it|| and if he only takes tick damage instead of being fully ensnared, I'd say he's certainly resistant to a degree

tulip rock
#

I do like the idea of a Corruption mode, but logically speaking it would have to be forced onto him since he's got resistance if not outright immunity to it.

prime oriole
#

Fair points

vast temple
#

yah i meant highly resistant, my bad

daring zodiac
#

On a scale of 1-10, How strong do you think glyde would be if he was corrupted by the corruption

#

Id imagine pretty strong, maybe a 7

tulip rock
#

If I dare to guess, Going by the One-time-use-only type deal as listed above, Probably an 8. It's the "strongest element" he gets...

For a single attack only. If I were to hazard a guess, I'm just guessing it's a massive dark energy blast that he uses to get out of whatever restraints he'd be in when the corruption is forced onto him, and he expels all that energy in a giant blast, then drops like a rock immediately after.

Then lead into nightmare scene.

prime oriole
#

I am 100% down for a one-time use and then a "nightmare" type boss

daring zodiac

I'm liking the evil energy-blast Kamehameha idea

Or slowly drains away at his health, but has bonkers lifesteal when pulling off combos

prime oriole
#

Health drain as you use it would be cool we could go a step further and add a few voice lines that are randomly selected after using this ability?

#

"Coughing"?
"Why do I feel weak?"
"I regret using that!"

loud vine
#

3rd is fine

tulip rock
tulip rock
#

Was also thinking it to be cutscene only, but if it ever was in gameplay, even if it's just for like, a minute, yeah it would 100% be HP drain and Lifesteal to really feed on the mayhem you are now capable of causing.

rich gale
#

I think a risk and reward system would make the form more fun, like if you keep building up a higher and higher combo, you get extra benefits like slight health restoration and increased movement speed. But getting interrupted during a combo will have your health be slowly drained until another combo chain is set

would be hard to balance corrupted glyde lore wise.
the suggested forced by a enemy might work, the other aproach is where glyde would reach such a level of enlightening that he essentially seperate his mind from hi sbody and still retain controll over it.

in dragon mythology(outside of glyde), the corruption is reffered to as emptyness, driven by only hate and pain, suffering and ones only essence being to want to cause the same upon others..
emptyness hate and pain, don't go well with dragons.
corruption works by finding weaknesses and such and exploiting them to make them bigger.
corruption is also completely incapable of doing magic because it is a force which seperates one from their true self and the link to the great wil/world core/ source of magic.
instead corruption can only abuse fears and pains by essentially methods like talking into ones ear, though also without words.
the entire mythology goes deeper.
though as glyde is a dragon fighting against corruption, and glyde in some other parts also matches some of the stories in some way it is realistic to assume that either one or more of those working on it are dragons or into dragon mythology, or that it atleast has influenced it.

I have to go now so can't really go deeper into the mythologies speciffically.
though generally it is said the corruption was created by one who was to weak mentally to handle all things existing and having freedom and feelings of their own, initially he claimed he wanted to end chaos and suffering, but the moment he created the corruption that directly went the other way and he wanted to end all, and wanted to do so through pain and suffering and hate. the corrupted one wasn't technically a dragon despite regularly pretending to be one, but the ones who rose against it where dragons or became dragons based on which of the stories one follows.

#

still the deeper versions are far more complex, as those dragons still wouldn't even be true dragons yet, and instead more like perspectives of a dragon. the dragon in question is existance. the one who wanted to exist and for there to exist so badly that it created itself, and the dark things like even the corruption are but specs in the full story as it has to learn it's opposites to get stronger. still this world we are in now falls in a story in a story in a story in which the corruption came, and always the corruption is the main enemy, even where it does not exist, for the corruption is the weakness which is the one true opposite to dragons.
