Anyone remember this bizarre Web comic?

I discovered it sometime in the mid 2010s after not having been involved in anything Spyro related since my early childhood. I had been a fan of the original trilogy and Hero's Tail years before but I was really confused as to what Spyro was doing with a goth princess Luna knock off dragoness next to Ember and Flame. My sister and I had actually played The Eternal Night on the DS but between the tiny screen and terrible gameplay we actually had barely a clue what we were playing as kids. This confusion actually lead to me doing some wikipedia and youtube search to learn that TLOS was a thing and got me into the Spyro fandom.

That said, this is probably one of the worst fancomics with good art I've seen, and coming back to look at it recently actually makes it worse because there are some additional chapters I missed originally and I learned via the Deviantart comment section that apparently some of the strange narrative gaps I had missed years ago were due to the sex scenes being removed from Deviantart. The ones between a 5000+ year old dragon and and the teenageish mentally unstable kid he's groomed from childhood. Yeah.

Plotwise, its a really weird mess. You have Spyro and Cynder and without any explanation Flame and Ember from the Earlier series are added in without any explanation as if they've been there the entire time. Not exactly an uncommon in the fandom, but still its unexplained and there are some additional comics that aren't actually part of Zonoya's Revenge but are in the artists DA that appear to count towards the characters previous interactions.

Spyro and Cynder have an annoying kid who is a purple dragon and then the namesake of the comic Zonoya, an obviously evil nutcase comes and kidnaps the kid and then the rest of the comic is a scatter brained retelling of the Lion King 2 (My favorite btw) with Spyro and Cynder being Simba and Nala while Zonoya is Zira but also the main character.

Zonoya's existence is strange because she is basically shoved into Cynder's backstory as another dragon who was captured by Malefor's forces and corrupted into another one of his servants. But the plot breaks canon by showing Malefor being alive and training both Cynder and Zonoya. Instead of being sealed away in the mountain.

And then we have her 'romantic relationship' with Malefor that leads to her reiviving him somehow, and then he dies in 3 pages, most likely because my memories either removed his plotline from my brain, or because of the aforementioned pages not on deviantart. Then thanks to Malefor she has this child, Frijijifjidfd or something who is basically Kovu, but a toddler yet romantically interested in Spyro's much older daughter...

Shit happens and Spyro tries to kill the child for reasons I've forgotten, but the panels showing him doing that are pretty funny. Also theres bird people involved as Zonoya's minions etc. The Guardians and Hunter barely appear other than to chew out Spyro. Its a mess but its strangely entertaining, like watching The Room. And the art is pretty decent. But I'm pretty sure the author must be nuts or something.

It was a comic based on The Lion King 2. It was one of the early TLOS comics that was popular back in the day, then the creator moved on from it. It got attention from BadComicsWiki (now a troll site)

I think I actually found it either via an MLP comic, that had a page from Zonoya's revenge under the Deviantart suggestions, back when it was at the height of its popularity, or because I was in a forum thread about the Spyro Infinite Loops and someone linked a crazy image from it.

Shalone has since moved on from the comic entirely years ago, some fans had bothered her about it and wanted her to continue it even after she ended it

Probably one of the first fan comics I was introduced to. Great art (specially the final part to the comic), but like you guys said, bad story.

Remember that other webcomic with an OC suitor for Cynder called Nero? Seems that guy is/was(?) somehow rather popular
Same webcomic also had Ember, Flame and Malefor just kinda there, Ember and Flame's daughter had a thing for Spyro, who for some reason was characterized as an a-hole at times

Yeah I remember Nero, then he became infamous with some stuff.

Zirra's still ongoing and it started around the same time as Zonoya and others. It was on hiatus whenever Seeraphina did other comic works, some of them are hiatus and or ended properly.

|| Zirra's Return was about a dragon named Zirra who is a fan species of dragon feared by those around her and was alive around Malefor's time. Then she was imprisoned and she's the one who gave Cynder her corrupted form, the one in control of Cynder's brainwashed state just so she can release Malefor and kill him herself. Right now both she and Cynder share bodies ||

Let's just say Nero was obsessive with Cynder to the point of being unstable towards other Spyro fans. The post-DOTD era was also wild and crazy, it brought a lot of unsettling people into the mix

I know this hasn't been touched in a while. But I read both Zonoya's Revenge while ShaloneSK was still updatiing it till the final page and Zirra's Return. Both have great art. Definitely read Seeraphine's works, whenever you get a chance. they ain't bad. Shalone was just really popular for making fanart/comics/ characters and offsprings for canon characters or her fan x canon ships.

A LOT of fan comic for TLOS had people creating suitors, killing off cynder or other canon characters. what if offsprings, siblings to Malefor or Cynder or litterally creating a FC that's "I was Malefor's secret puppet if Cynder failed." or something like that

Well the story's alright. Dated maybe, this is a fanfic comic from, like, extremely early 2000s, it existed back when youtubers still did those weird videos where they'd do text on coloured screens. And, let's be real, how many of us have thrown a character into Cynder's backstory? Legit have a Spyro OC for who is Cynder's estranged sister that I made for a friend who ended up liking Cynder as a character.

And to be fair, can you blame people for liking Cynder? She's an awesome goth girl with a troubled past with a nice attitude that's smart and does cool things, tends to be harsh on herself for her past, and just wants a friend to confide in. If THAT is not the most instant any% speedrun of how to make a character everyone likes, then she's being beaten by Krystal from Star Fox

And really, any character who exists in a spinoff edgy series in a franchise with a highly recognisable main mascot, who ends up becoming arguably MORE popular than said main mascot, is probably extremely likeable a character

Does help Loona and Torque are voiced by Erica Lindbeck, but evidence still stands. Pretty sure you could possibly add Porsha from Sing 2 to that list.

I just think she's got a really cool premise, with strong character potential (that I see realized better in fanworks to some degree)
Cool design, too, her color combo is extremely effective.
Though I'm not sure I'd call TLoS the edgy subseries.

Goodness gracious I remember this relic of a fanfic on DeviantArt.

Also @radiant folio the reason why Ember and Flame appear in this comic is due to previous comic the artist (ShaloneSK) did which features all four of the characters (Spyro, Cynder, Flame and Ember). In that one, Spyro and Cynder have just saved the world from Malefor and have become a couple, Ember sees this and gets jealous, Flame acts as a simp but eventually those two get together. Yeah it’s as a soap opera bad fanfic as it gets 😂. Although I do like one scene where Ember and Cynder race each other by flying through rings just like the speedway levels in the OG games.

Yeah this story is very much carried by its artwork, and Shalone does very good artwork.

The writing though is pretty bad, I’m pretty sure Shalone was a teenager at the time when she wrote it as well. Zonoya, her dragon OC is the romantic love interest of Malefor and ends up having a child with him. Likewise, Spyro and Cynder have a daughter. The dark and light versions of Aether come into play too.

I never ended up finishing the webcomic but I’d certainly try to go back and check it out again. But don’t have high expectations. There’s better fanfiction to digest if you want a good story. As I said though, Shalones’ artwork is marvellous.

Yeah Shalone has a unique art style, even as she covers other franchises. She, more or less, still thinks fondly of her old Spyro fancomic (ZR), even though she's moved on from the fandom. It's too bad about what happened to her though, she was harassed, impersonated and stalked until she had to leave online for her mental health. She's doing fine now these days but I don't know when she'll ever return.

Sad part is the stealer is still impersonating her and commissioning artists so that he can get art of Shalone's OC with his; he really believes he owns her OC and other people's characters he stole
