Arachne (/əˈrækniː/; from Ancient Greek: Ἀράχνη, romanized: arákhnē, lit. 'spider', cognate with Latin araneus)[1] is the protagonist of a tale in Greek mythology known primarily from the version told by the Roman poet Ovid (43 BCE–17 CE), which is the earliest extant source for the story.[2] In Book Six of his epic poem Metamorphoses, Ovid recounts how the talented mortal Arachne challenged the goddess Athena to a weaving contest. When Athena could find no flaws in the tapestry Arachne had woven for the contest, the goddess became enraged and beat the girl with her shuttle. And for punishment , she was transformed into a spider. The myth both provided an etiology of spiders' web-spinning abilities and was a cautionary tale about hubris.

Light elves and dark elves (Ljósálfar and Dökkálfar)

_ _
_ _
The light elves and dark elves are two contrasting elves the dark elves dwell within the earth and have a dark complexion. Meanwhile the light elves live in Álfheimr(alfheim)and are “fairer than the sun to look at” and since the dark elves are described as subterranean so some people think they might be dwarves under another name.

Myrmekes (Μύρμηκες) is Greek for "ants". Greek mythological animals and tribes were called with this name.

Mythology
Myrmidons, ants transformed into a tribe of people by Zeus.[1]
Herodotus, wrote about Gold-digging ants in India which were smaller than dogs but larger than foxes.[2]
Aelian, wrote: "The Indian ants (μύρμηκες οἱ Ἰνδικοὶ) which guard the gold will not cross the river Campylinus".[3]
Greek sailors that arrived from India have told stories of their encounters with the Myrmekes. They are a race of ants that can range in size from small dogs to giant bears which guarded a hill that had rich deposits of gold. The local tribes had to use a rush and grab maneuver to obtain the gold without being killed by the Myrmekes.

In Greek mythology, Gaia (/ˈɡeɪə, ˈɡaɪə/;[2] Ancient Greek: Γαῖα, romanized: Gaîa, a poetic form of Γῆ (Gê), meaning 'land' or 'earth'),[3] also spelled Gaea (/ˈdʒiːə/),[2] is the personification of Earth.[4] Gaia is the ancestral mother—sometimes parthenogenic—of all life. She is the mother of Uranus (Sky), from whose sexual union she bore the Titans (themselves parents of many of the Olympian gods), the Cyclopes, and the Giants, as well as of Pontus (Sea), from whose union she bore the primordial sea gods. Her equivalent in the Roman pantheon was Terra.[5]

In Greek mythology, Eurynomos (/jʊəˈrɪnəməs/; Greek Εὐρύνομος; Latin Eurynomus) was the netherworld daimon (spirit) of rotting corpses dwelling in the Underworld.[1] Eurynomos is either a minor figure whose associated literature is lost to time, or possibly an invention by the painter Polygnotos. The sole[citation needed] piece of evidence concerning him is the following paragraph by Pausanias in a painting of Hades by Polygnotos at Delphoi, Phocis:

Eurynomos, said by the Delphian guides to be one of the daimones of Hades, who eats off all the flesh of the corpses, leaving only their bones. But Homer's Odyssey, the poem called the Minyad, and the Returns, although they tell of Hades and its horrors, know of no daimon called Eurynomos. However, I will describe what he is like and his attitude in the painting. He is of a colour between blue and black, like that of meat flies; he is showing his teeth and is seated, and under him is spread a vulture's skin.

BARGHEST

_ _
The Barghest is a spectral black dog from English folklore, particularly from northern England. Often regarded as an omen of death, it is said to appear before calamity or the death of someone nearby. The creature is described as large, with glowing red eyes and the ability to vanish into shadows. Legend claims that if a person sees the Barghest, their death or severe misfortune is imminent. Its chilling presence and association with death make it one of the more feared creatures in British mythology.

In Greek mythology, Hyperion (/haɪˈpɪəriən/; Greek: Ὑπερίων, 'he who goes before')[1] was one of the twelve Titan children of Gaia (Earth) and Uranus (Sky).[2] With his sister, the Titaness Theia, Hyperion fathered Helios (Sun), Selene (Moon) and Eos (Dawn).[3]

Hyperion was, along with his son Helios, a personification of the sun, with the two sometimes identified.[4] John Keats's abandoned epic poem Hyperion is among the literary works that feature the figure

#

In Greek mythology, Hyperion, the Titan god of heavenly light and watchfulness, had several powers, including:
Controlling light: Hyperion had the power to control all light.
Observing anyone: Hyperion could observe anyone from his vantage point in the heavens.
Understanding heavenly patterns: Hyperion was the first to understand the movements of the sun, moon, stars, and seasons. He also understood how these bodies caused the seasons.

According to myth, she was the original owner of the site of the Oracle of Delphi before gifting it to her grandson Apollo. Her name, meaning "bright", was also given to a number of lunar goddesses like Artemis and later the Roman goddesses Luna and Diana, but Phoebe herself was not actively treated as a moon goddess in her own right in ancient mythology

The serpopard (also known as monstrous lion) is a mythical animal known from ancient Egyptian and Mesopotamian art. The word "serpopard" is a modern coinage. It is a portmanteau of "serpent" and "leopard", derived from the interpretation that the creature represents an animal with the body of a leopard and the long neck and head of a serpent. However, they have also been interpreted as "serpent-necked lions". There is no known name for the creature in any ancient texts.

Nehebkau[pronunciation?] (also spelled Nehebu-Kau) was the primordial snake god in ancient Egyptian mythology. Although originally considered an evil spirit, he later functions as a funerary god associated with the afterlife. As one of the forty-two assessors of Ma’at, Nehebkau was believed to judge the deceased after death and provide their souls with ka – the part of the soul that distinguished the living from the dead.

Nehebkau was ultimately considered a powerful, benevolent and protective deity. In late mythology, he is described as a companion of the sun god Ra and an attendant of the deceased King. As he is so closely associated with the sun god, his name was evoked in magical spells for protection. His festival was widely celebrated throughout the Middle and New Kingdoms.

Alright!! A siren is a creature that is half bird, and half women. Sirens’ are beautiful creatures that lure sailors to their death by their voice when they sing. These sailors would jump in the water or the person who is sailing the ship will crash into rocks. Siren are said to be the daughters of the sea god (Phorcys) or the river god (Achelous).

Sirens can die. They can die if sailors were able to resist their song.

Fun fact: (I didn’t even know this myself) Some of us may have thought that sirens was half human half fish, but the classical greeks saw sirens as half human half bird. Sirens was originally seen as half human half fish in the early 9th century, but continued to be illustrated as half human half bird. The reason why people thought they was half human half fish because they typically hang out at shore so they can attract the ships and because the medieval period!

Anput

Anput (Input) was the wife of Anubis, the mother of Kebechet (the goddess of purification) and the personification of the seventeenth nome of Upper Egypt.

Her name is merely the female version of the name of her husband, Anubis (“t” is the feminine ending and Anubis was known as Anpu or Inpu to the Egyptians).

Unlike her husband, she did not have a prominent role in Egyptian mythology. When she is referenced, it is usually in her role as the representative of the nome. Probably the most notable example is that of the triad of Menkaure, Hathor and Anput.

In the Book of Song (宋書) in China, there is a record related to Bai Ze called the Bái Zé Tú ‘diagram of (the deity) Baize’(白澤圖): Bai Ze, the divine creature, knows all matters concerning ghosts and gods in the world. Entrusted by the Yellow Emperor, Bai Ze drew all the ghosts and spirits he knew into pictures and added annotations, which is the origin of the Bái Zé Tú.[1]

The Dullahan (Irish: Dubhlachan; dúlachán, /ˈduːləˌhɑːn/) is a type of legendary creature in Irish folklore. He is depicted as a headless rider on a black horse, or as a coachman, who carries his own head. As it is not widely attested in native sources, including no references to it on the Irish Folklore Commission's website, there is doubt as to whether the Dullahan was originally a part of the Irish oral tradition.

A leprechaun (Irish: lucharachán/leipreachán/luchorpán) is a diminutive supernatural being in Irish folklore, classed by some as a type of solitary fairy. They are usually depicted as little bearded men, wearing a coat and hat, who partake in mischief. In later times, they have been depicted as shoe-makers who have a hidden pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Leprechaun-like creatures rarely appear in Irish mythology and only became prominent in later folklore

The Gashadokuro is a spirit that takes the form of a giant skeleton made of the skulls of people who died in the battlefield or of starvation/famine (while the corpse becomes a gashadokuro, the spirit becomes a separate yōkai, known as hidarugami.), and is 10 or more meters tall. Only the eyes protrude, and some sources describe them as burning yellow or green. Gashadokuro wanders around at 2:00 a.m. and attacks and eats humans when it sees them. When a Gashadokuro approaches, it is said to make a clattering sound with its teeth "Gachi Gachi." However they are also known to be stealthy when approaching humans they wish to eat.[1] The following characteristics are not confirmed by Japanese data. The Gashadokuro are said to possess the powers of invisibility and indestructibility since it is composed of the bones of people who are already deceased, though Shinto charms are said to ward them off.[2][better source needed] Otherwise, a Gashadokuro will continue hunting its prey until its pent up anger is released,[1] causing the bones to crumple and the Gashadokuro to collapse.[3]

Cover page to Mayne Reid's version of the legend that was published in 1865
The Headless Horseman is an archetype of mythical figure that has appeared in folklore around Europe since the Middle Ages.[1] The figures are traditionally depicted as riders upon horseback who are missing their heads. These myths have since inspired a number of stories and characters in popular culture, including "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow".

Description
Depending on the legend, the Horseman is either carrying his head, or is missing his head altogether, and may be searching for it. Famous examples include the dullahan from Ireland, who is a demonic fairy usually depicted riding a horse and carrying his head under his arm, and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," a short story written in 1820 by American writer Washington Irving, which has been adapted into several other works of literature and film including the 1949 Disney animated film The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad and the 1999 Tim Burton film Sleepy Hollow.

The Nuckelavee, Bringer of Drought and Disasters
_ _
The Nuckelavee is a creature from Scottish folklore, specifically originating from the Orkney Islands. It is typically described as a hybrid entity, possessing the body of a horse with the upper torso of a human. Notably, it is said to lack skin, adding to its otherworldly and unsettling appearance. While the Nuckelavee is often associated with negative forces such as storms and disease in legend, it remains an intriguing figure within the realm of folklore, embodying the blend of mysticism and fear that characterizes many traditional tales.
