#Train like a bender ! (IRL WORKOUT)
1 messages ยท Page 3 of 1
Out eating dinner and having some Old Fashioned's, guess I won't be working out tonight
An hour past 10PM and I still feel bloated, no gym for me tonight :(
is there one for katara?
im thinking of going back into gymnastics and kataras whole thing is about being like a gymnast
and im the same hight as her
I found it
hmm, which part of katara's kit is gymnastic like? is there a certain aspect ur trying to do from the show? Katara's water bending is based off of tai chi
yeah but there alot of jumping and flips and stuff that ive seen alot with the water bending
yes! thats wushu, chinese martial arts
cool
if you're looking to do the cool kicks and flips. You're looking for longfist, which is basically waht firebenders do
so perhaps the train like zuko one would be more suited for you
wushu has a lot of components that are very gymnastics like actually, since their main competitive setting is similar to that of gymnastics (performing a routine and have judges give u a score)
probably more like the smoother water style instead of the fire bending style movements
yeah that would be the tai chi aspect.
the tai chi aspect is the silky smooth style u see in water bending, and then the ocasional cool kick or flip is more firebending (longfist)
yeah
i also want to look more feminine which kataras would be better for then zukos
mhmm! go for it!
tai chi is a very graceful martial art, very beautiful and smooth
def not the typical martial art you see
yeah, i went on a school excursion to a large buddhist temple (largest one in the southern hemisphere) and we got to watch and participate in the tai chi the monks where doing
it was alot of fun
o thats awesome!
i hope ur able to find what ur looking for! u can always combine things, dont have to only learn explciitly one thing
it was a few years back but we get to go again this year
thank you, ill focus on this one first then start other ones as well
also, this may be off target. But since you said you wanted to look more feminene I assume you're more interested in the aesthetics of katara's bending and you're not as interested in the practical applications right? More the "art" and less the "martial" I assume? ๐คฃ If that is the case, you might actually be looking more chinese traditional dance
something like this
The poetic dance, "The Painting Journey โ The Legend of a Panorama of Mountains and Rivers," highlights the aesthetics of traditional Chinese painting, is the latest creation by Han Zhen and Zhou Liya, the joint directors and choreographers of the popular dance drama "The Eternal Wave."

mix of both
if not, just ignore it haha
ahh ok
most of the routine in the video is dancey, but a lot of chiense traditional dance also incorporates martial arts moves
i cant find a good example rn
im a trans girl so i want to look more girlish, and this helps with both being fit and look female
maybe this?
The work "Ling Feng, Swordswoman of Yue" by Beijing #Dance Academy portrays a female swordsman in the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC). The story is about a life-and-death battle with swordswoman Ling Feng swaying her blade among mountains and lakes. It shows her understanding of the harmony between man and nature. #Chinesedance
Video prov...
liek graceful yet pwoerful?
i think i might of seen some before in one of the historical chinese dramas my mum likes
oh ok! i think i know what ru talking about, is what ur describing similar to the sword video i just linked?
yes alot like this
nice nice! it might be more chinese traditional dance you're looking for. But like I mentioned earlier, the lines between chinese traditional dnace and contemporary wushu get blurred often
there are softer styles of wushu similar to that video
but i think ur looking for chinese traditional dance
yeah i can see why
they are very similar looking
yeah, ive done both. they have very similar training routines actually
flexibility/kicking/etc.
thats good
its almost ballet like ๐คฃ
i hope ur able to find a school or plae that teaches that, but i think its a good starting point!
if u do a wushu/martial arts school. some keywords id keep an eye on is "contemporary wushu" NOT traditional
thank you
there should be a few around as my city has a large presence of uni student from asia
traditional focuses more on the practical aspects, and while contemporary wushu draws from traditional its been highly stylized and evovled into something of its own
into some more performative and aesthetic focused
thats great! if ur uni is big, there actually might be a wushu club. thats how i got into it originally!
it is a decently sized uni yes so hopefully
if not im sure there would be someone at the temple that would teach me tai chi instead
sorry for nerding out. but I wanna calrify tho, tai chi comes in many forms
theres the traditional tai chi, and then theres the tai chi in Wushu. The tai chi in wushu is what you're looking for if you wanna look like katara
chinese martial arts is confusing as heck, so sometimes i see atla fans looking for schools to learn what they do in teh show, but what they often find is the traditional stuff, which def looks a lot different, even if its the same name
its all good lmao i do the same thing but with bugs
haha thanks. anyways i hope u find waht ur looking for!
just know that if it doesnt look like what u wanna learn, its probably not, even if it does have the same name or whatever
thank you
makes sense
๐ช
zhao the personal trainer aha
cant get like this wo some training ๐คฃ
haha fair ๐ญ
I'm starting the work out routine today ๐ฅณ
Good luck!
Thank you
nice, which one r u doing?
I'm just doing the routine that the superherojacked website has
After I get accustomed to that I'll do the martial arts part
awesome! good luck!
Thank you
tell us how ur workout goes! ๐
I will
im gonna start some form of martial arts but idk which aha
Doing this cuz of Avatar?
im quitting gym so and feeling strong is what makes me wanna do shit ๐ญ
so it seems like a cool substitute
do whichever one that interests u!
if u wanna do the ones shown in avatar, its contemporary wushu (chinese martial arts)
What are your options right now?
any lol
ooh that sounds cool acc, ill look into it
no problem! the really cool flips and tricks and stuff you see firebenders do, is longfist style wushu, to be more specific
ill try that out cus all that stuff seems cool haha
thank you zhao
no problem! glad i can help
yess
I would be careful with that routine, i jsut gave it a look thru and it has some very questionable exercises
it has people benching 135lbs for 15 reps for 3 sets
thats insane for a beginner
also what the heck is this?
is that 50 reps? at 135lbs?
Even the 50 pushups seems a bit difficult for a beginner
For people trying that routine, def tone it down if u feel ur body cant take it. this is not meant for beginners lol
rule 1 for online workout plans:dont follow any weights it tells you and go for what will lead you to failure upon last rep
yeah i know. which is why the superherojacked plan is a terrible plan
no good plan would tell u how much weight to lift
im just afraid beginners here would think its cool and all because its "train like korra" and then end up hurting themselves trying to do it
its overall not a very good plan to "trian like korra" regardless. its just a generic conditionign routine that can potentially harm some beginners
lmao yea
generally , theres different training which will tone your body differently but superherojacked probably isnt the most reliable for it ngl
maybe they should include a warning to people potentially looking to do that program
especially because its can be unrealistic
imho as someone that dabbles in martial arts and lifting. its a terrible plan to become "korra" or "zuko" and i wouldnt recommend it
maybe but if youre messing with gym equipment you should be able to identify your limits
like the exercises just dont make a whole lotta sense
hopefully. but beginners can be very reckless sometimes
yea thats fair
this is my gym rat inspiration- u might be able to ask him questions but he busy
too bad this thread is kinda dead ):
i can train like a bender but the problem is i'm not able to eat like one
Same ๐ but ngl i need a challenge i can do to get me inspired or something
Adopt high protein diets with low fat and high calories if you want to bulk up, or just eat a little less calories and burn more. Many of the diets are bender-like, even chicken and rice is bountiful if you prepare it right.
i guess it depends whihc bender body type ur going for
theres a wide range of body types in atla, some where u would train/eat differently than others
but generally high protein is good for most
True i just found out i need to go for a low impact type of workout ever since i got diagnosed with PCOS
But yas protein is good thankfully
ohhh ok, sorry to hear that. the great thing about exercise is theres a wide veriety to choose from
by low impact do u mean like, in terms of cardio? or lifting heavy?
less volume?
Yeah like cardio, lifting, pilates
I used to do HIIT but it didnt work out and now i know why ๐
ahh ok, well the good news is theres still lots of low intensity stuff to choose from to be healthy.
just walking alone is great, ppl underestimate walking but it can do wonders for ppl that arent use to exercising
yeah HIIT imo is a bit overrated. it has its benefits, but slightly overrated
Oh i agree with this
I didnt appreciate it much when i was a teenager
Fr ๐ either you get competitive of doing it better or get so overwhelmed with the limited time
yeah, not too long ago ppl thought hiit was ideal for "fat loss" because it burned more calories/ time spent or the whole afterburn effect. While it may be true, the issue w hiit is u can only do it so much a day (20mins or less if ur doing it right) so all in all you're burning less calories. Wheras low intensity exercises, while maybe not as efficient, can be done much longer and is less taxing on ur body, and so overall you burn more calories even tho its slightly less efficient
i also have this mindset and honestly its horrible. u keep trying to beat ur last session, whether its hiit, or weights, or whatever and it ends up burning u out and u have this dread of going to the gym because u "HAVE" to beat ur last time, which is unrealistic at some pt
I tried doing that during freshman year in college, it wasnโt as effective as what i did when i tried martial arts and yoga
But i feel like i dont have the skills anymore so im like going back to zero
oh yeahh! martial arts is def much better. its more fun and more interesting
me too, i use to do martial arts but i got too many injuries so its like not really something i actively pursue anymore
THIS LMAO like you could feel it but then again you get to try some other types of workouts other than HIIT nad you could tell which is better
yeah hiit is just too intense. I use to do it too since it was the craze back then. But it honestly should eb used sparingly, doing hiit all the time burns a body out
Same here, i had to give it up cause i got so preoccupied with college, the schedule didnt fit anymore plus the trainings were more brutal. I still suck at doing flips
yeahh it sucks, i did it during college and it was brutal. Whats worse is we did it "old school" style and the sifu had us do kciks and flips on a hardwood basketball court, which was terrible for our joints...
Maybe HIIT is good when you feel like going hard or so ething but i dunno
yeah i think the benefits of hiit are if u wanna improve ur fitness, like if ur a competing athlete or something. even then, most athletes dont do it for EVERY single session
Damn, what martial arts did you do? Mine was wushu. My laoshi forced me to slap the freakin floor and it had to echo. ๐
the idea of going hard 100% 24/7 365 is honestly a horrible mindset to have, its only in recent times have ppl been emphasizing the importance of recovery and rest, u get stronger when u recover, not when u work out
ME TOOO, i did contemporary wushu ๐ญ
That was my mistake when i thought it was effective to do it a few sessions a week ๐๐๐
wheeling arms!?
OMG YEEES
i remember getting likea popped blood vessel slamming my hands on the hwardwood floor
after that i never slammed that hard again ๐
It was fun when i got used to it but i hated it when i was new. My body would get sore the whole week
Damn ๐
I felt that
same, i trained 3x/week for like 2-3 yrs and i was always sore
dude the strethcing was the worse ๐
The only good thing came out of that training was to slap hard ๐
hahhaa
Ugh flashbacks
I hated balancing the staff with my knees
i have decent felxibility but even then it was not enough for wushu ๐
omg horsestance?
bruh i ahte those
Or use the staff to stretch
YEAH
when someone wouldnt get to balance the staff all of us got an additional minute of holding it
Like
I was dying inside
did u have strethcing partners where u get into a split stretch and they step on u? ๐คฃ
YES
it was okay if my partners would be kids
But the instructors would be brutal
They would push me so hard
that guys felxibile tho
itโs sad though i didnt get to try using a sword
jelly
I always wanted to try it
ohhhh nooo. i started it but never got that much time w it
which one did u try, straightsword or broadsword
Itโs the butterfly kick that im jelly about
aerials for me. but yeah butterflies r also so cool
Neither cause i needed to perfect the staff before doing swords
Then i stopped ๐ญ
oh fr? my school did swords first b4 letting us touch staff/spear
Damn really? Im jealous
i wanted to do staff so bad
yeah, the snapping is harder than it looks actually. after ur all tired out from doing ur form
Oh yeah fr, i thought i could do it on my first try
Boy i was wrong
It would bounce whenever i try to hit the floor
And one of the instructors would make me repeat it cause i lack control
๐ญ
was this a school in college/high school or was it an outside school?
Outside school
I begged my parents to make me do martial arts since i was the only one in the family that didnt try any type pf sports
arent u glad u did it tho
to be fair wushu is more intensive in terms fo athelticism. since its mostly performative they push the body to the limits
ironically more grounded or "practical" martial arts arent nearly as demanding on the body as wushu
Oh heck yes, even though it was brutal, it was useful when i went to college. I joined a cheer dancing competition until sophomore year
so u can still do martial arts! maybe just not wushu.
My arms were so toned back then ๐ i miss those
o i bet the wushu training helped lots
Maybe taichi giving the fact itโs been a while lmaooo
hahaha do it! even wushu has stylized taichi. so maybe u can look into that. my school was great it offered many styles and some of them were teaching tai chi forms as well
Oh yeah it did
If i could find one in my city hopefully
the wushu type taichi is much more cooler looking than traditional tai chi, so u dont have to be worried about looking like a boomber if u did tai chi ๐คฃ
its what waterbenders use actually, the wushu type of tai chi.
yeah thats the issue, i think its not common to see many types of wushu schools. and even if u did, its hard to find an instructor that was knowledgeable enough to teach many forms. most instructors i know tend to focus on a few styles only, more commonly longfist and southern fist thats it
5 stance form right?
5 stance form is the basics, so it includes all styles
Oh yeah, youll get lucky if you found a proper teacher that teaches you a lot of stuff
Yaaaas
I forgot the other stances but for some reason i remembered this
yep, its so hard to find a legit school since the naming conventions for chinese martial arts is so confusing and all. and then theres finding the correct instructor or style too
Riiight? I got lucky with mine cause he was a former athlete in china that moved in the Philippines
oh niceee! the instructor i hd wa affiliated w the beijing wushu team, so i got lucky too
if hes former wushu athlete from china he must be intense and very good ๐
Why does that remind me of kung fu panda? Lmaoooo
I guess so cause he was really strict with my forms
LMAOOOO
i knor, theyre like form police. they always tell me my stances aren't low enough ๐ญ
thats some intense piano bending there
SAME LMAOOO but hey at least they taught me how to squat better
Flameo mikanlim, you just advanced to the rank of Beginner!
This is also giving me war flashbacks ๐๐๐ i felt this
Im guessing thats what your parents said huh? ๐
OOOOHHHH
Thatโs so adorable
Always wanted to have one
true, my flexibility is still very good after all these yrs! ๐ญ๐คฃ
Cause thats what my parents said ๐
thats what all our parents say ๐คฃ
Eeeyyyy same
Well not great as before but good enough
I love that ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ๐ค
oh for sure, not nearly as good as before. but relative to the general popoulation yes
Damn
Hahaha yes
cuz of u and ur piano bending ๐
Instruments are also challenges my man lmaooo
Spinning song was my enemy back in the days
instruments is like exercise for ur mind and fingers
My mind would go blank honestly
Damn youre super artistic
Yes please
Last time i tried art was last yr cause i was curious about watercolor
Then i got tired of trying cause work was making me tired
Whats your medium?
i have 0 art skills lol
At least your parents didnt force you to do art ๐
trueee! lol
Damn pencil? Im not good with that stuff
Wait lemme find mine
I had to follow a youtube video lmaoo
And i never watercolored after that
wtf is this art bending ๐ฎ
Thank you ๐ญ
maybe a pabu too
That would be adorable ๐ญ
Itโs art
Itโs creative lol
Why would they dictate your style or vision
Maybe drinking the cactus?
Or flying around the plants?
LMAOOOO
reallly? niceee! i cant wait to see it when ur done ๐ฅน
Same here
Cant wait! ๐ค๐ค๐ค๐ค
If spooderman momo maybe behind the plants
If he drinks the cactus maybe beside or in front
If this one, front
Eyyy it aint done yet but i could imagine it lmaooo
Momo LMAOOOO so cute
I believe in you
Progress is progress
omg sho kyute
i'm so scared i also have pcos ): i heard its very common with women who weightlift
Ive been told by the doctors that itโs manageable
But im still trying to figure out tbh lol
And i didnt know about the weightlift part, really?
out of curiosity were they specific in why high impact exercise is not good for pcos?
and did they specific exactly what type of high impact? since high impact can apply to many different types
Based on what i learned from school, vigorous exercise would increase stress hormones like cortisol
And cortisol is not good for pcos women
Cause of the hormone imbalance
๐ญ damn that sucks? even from exercise? wow
that must be tough
Yeah thats why it has to be low impact or intensity
Which is frustrating to be honest
but i thought excercise also releases endorphines and stuff, the good hormones?
it does
It does but we pcos women are built different lmao
my understanding of cortisol levels from exercise is that it does spike cortisol, but it is usually temporary and ok for the body. Kinda like how being stressed is a normal human response, but being chronically stressed w cortisol levels remian high is a problem. However with PCOS i dont know how that changes things
that really sucks then if even temporary spikes is bad for pcos
i can't imagine how frustrating it must be, but i'm sure you will figure it out eventually (:
Honestly itโs kinda hard to explain it simply and my mind is kinda laggy to remember everything from clinical chem lmaooo
i hate the fact how the female body is still severely underrepresented within medicine and healthcare
like we know wayy more of the male body than of the female
All i could remember is that it is common for pcos women to be insulin resitant meaning the body cant use the energy (glucos) effectively
And cortisol is associated in raising blood sugar by releasing the stored glucose
Even in premed it was really frustrating to understand
no worries, its ok no need to explain haha
oh ok, yeah thats true
ic now, i can why its bad
So yeah here we go clinical chemistry 101 lmaooo intro to hormones
ohh that's interesting, thanks for explaining it like that because i never really fully understand it ๐
Yeah itโs more complicated lol
But this is the best thing i could explain at the moment
i remember in college for human reporudction class. we spent over 2 weeks covering the basic cycle of the female repoductiion. all the graphs and LH FSH hormonal spikes, eclampsia, and then the progesterone cycle and all that jazz
and then when it came time for males, we spent like 2 lectures
THIS
LMAOOOO
spermatozao goes mitosis--> mitosis --> meiosis. and then DONE u gotch yo sperm cells ready to be dpeloyed
YES.. even my biology teacher said after we finished the male cyclus ''we're now heading on to the female hormonal charts which biologist still do not fully understand''
LMAOOOOO FACTS
i remembered making notes and the female hormones were thiccccc
yeah the stark difference was so huge, that even tho ive forgotten most of it, the impression still lasted
LMAOOOOOO until now tbh
this is so ironic cause im currently on my period and its making me feel better to talk about the hormones and stuff
so i understand better whats happening rn ๐
Same here lol my notes are still alive and idk if im ready yet to study them again (even though i have to)
Im glad youโre comfortable
lol good luck! its easier the 2nd time around
I dunno man, i finished college since 2018. I havent touched the subject for a while
But i have to if i wanted to get a license outside my country
lol!! well, extra good luck then
Thank you ๐ญ
oh are u both medicine majors or something
actually i joke, even tho its been a while its still easier when u pick it back up. the biggest challenge imo is the change in the knowledge ever since u last studied it. if its like old stuff that hasnt changed, it might not be an issue tho
Medical lab science, didnt proceed to medschool cause medschoolโs expensive
hmmm sorta kinda haha
i was a bio major tho
u a baby
Thats true but a lot of the subjects are the bane of my existence especially hormones and pharmacology
u have potential to beat us both!
a
Enjoy your youth, young one ๐ญ
oops
uggggghh pls, no pharma
True lol i think you could
fr right? we're all here tlaking about our martial arts days and how our bodies cant handle it no more ๐
nahh, i wont be competition for you 2 cause im prolly going into law or politics :p
real
Damn hey there twin ๐๐๐
Riiiight? Its making me sad tbh lmaooo
oh good! politics is important (unfortuantely) doesnt matter how developed science is, bc its usually gov and politics holding us back XD.
Even way better tbh
LMAOOOOOO
Frrrr
i dont like politics, but unfortuantely it is needed to make big positive changes in the world
so might as well encourage good ppl to get into it, rather than discourage them and let all the bad ppl dictate politics
true ): it really affects us more than we'd like
Same here
yeah, as much as we'd like to think it doesn't. it is very pervasive in society, we just don't notice the effects sometimes, sometimes it can be hard to notice
yeah i really find it interesting, but also because i feel like we need more extremely based hijabi girls,
(satire) because unfortunately there arent too many of us in politics
Yeeeeees, i dont have the smarts and the mental capacity to do this
exactly and what i'm worried about most is polarisation, especially due to social media
exactly. ppl from all backgrounds need to be encouraged
OMG YEEES I LOVE THAT
THANK UU
same i hate studying law or theory ๐ญ
yeah i think we can all agree that the old white men's time have come to an end
yeahhh, its a big issue. good luck w that!
me neither tbh
Did you guys have a required class to study your countryโs law for one semester? Cause mine did and i hated it
but if it makes bank you know
Hijabi elle woods coming throuuuugh
not in college, high school yes
YESSS LMAOO i love that
Damn really?? That mustve suck
for medicinee?? ๐ญ thats so unrelated imo
it was, didnt remember much from it lol
Girl, i was also required to take phys ed and religious studies in college ๐ it was non negotiable
Same here lmaoooo
o yeah, we had to take a buncha humanities classes that dont have anyhting to do with bio. but honestlyi kinda enjoyed it
Me too but i hated my professors
me too, but i can imagine as a medicine major that religious studies are the least of ur interests like..
One was a strict nun
sometimes a balance is good. you get a more well rounded view of the world. If i only studied biology and nothing else, im pretty sure i would be a very different person
that's a very good insight
The only thing i enjoyed that wasnt related to my major was philosophy and lit
yeah that one is weird, usually its more flexible and u get to choose. but maybe its a religious college?
I agree with this
yeah i took like psychology and stuff. now looking back, i wish i did more politics and asian studies
oh could be! we dont really have much of those here
lowkey same ๐คฃ
Damn you got asian studies? ๐ญ
asian studies sounds interesting, but like what are the chances you could find a job?
yeah, in the univeristy i was at, it was a major haha
none ๐คฃ
thats why i woulda wanted to take it as like the extra humanities requirements, and not a major itself
LMAOOO
yeahh that's smart
yeah unfortunately the reality is, studying out of purely for interest is admirable, but in the real world it might make thigs difficult for u ๐ญ
otherwise id be so much more interested in the other stuff
Cause idk what else to do with my degree
science can get boring and tedious sometimes ๐
yeahh, gotta go into healthcare haha
this. if jobs and things after uni didnt matter i wouldve probably studied philosophy or history
Amen ๐ yet here i am doing science stuff
Safest bet to be honest lmaooo
i currently have an economic profile in high school, but i decided to choose bio with it too because i secretly enjoy it ๐
same but maye thats why it gets tedious lol
Whats your job?
yeah i think its good to explore, u never know what interests u
Yas queen
something along the lines in healthcare haha
Do what makes you happy
Thereโs a lot of possibilities lol
hahah yeah, sorry i prefer not to specify if that is ok with u
Nah its fine lol
but u can imagine its something along the lines of what ur doing as well
Either way, weโre just doing it to survive ๐
altho im not sure if medtech is the same for ur ocuntry as mines
yeahh
dont let ur job define who u r!
Lab tech? Medical lab scientist?
Researcher? Lol
Biotech?
Anyways thats all i could think of
I wont push you to answer lol
hhahaha
Bruh i do some stuff thatโs not related to my job
But more of a hobby maybe
So yaaaas i agree
haha i know!
like i have an interest in politics now
literally nothing to do w my field
yeah hahah
Im doing some stuff on the media(?) side but it could be mixed with my career if i can figure it out lol
ooo, thats cool!
i see a lot of fields mixing these days
Yeah cause if my parents werenโt strict with me i wouldve gone outside my city and study something else
Which is cool tbh
Welcome back baby meelo lol
Damn
Aang age
๐
So older than meelo
But damn
Thats so young
Yeah and thats one the last season of legend of korra ๐๐๐
Just wow
Gotta say youre a talented kid doing art and piano bending
ooo, strict parents. i feel ya ๐ญ
is that u>
ur drawing skills r already better than mine!
ur momo is adorable
Riiiight? ๐ญ just wow kid youre better than us
hahah its so fitting!
yep, they better!
This is so good
yeah its super fitting, doenst look out of place at all
Riiight?
TALENT
I just met you but im proud of you
AWWW it looks so good, reminders me a little of the plants in spongebob
Keep it up ๐ฏ๐ฏ๐ฏ
do it! ๐
Whats the specific assignment for starters?
<--
Pabuuuuuu
Petition for more pabu merch and art please
i know, why is there so little pabu
Justice for pabu ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ
I need a naga and momo plushie too for my appa
yess, where did u get ur appa plushie from
Online, itโs not official merch but i just wanted one
It fits with my hitc clo plushie
Since itโs a cloud
niceee, id like a pabu one but i think itd just look like a normla red panda
Yeees
I dont think ive seen one tbh
I hope someone would make one
seriosuly haha
u guys said revive this chat lmfao
lol, i swear, it started off with workout and exercise!
then one thing led to another somehow
what split r u doing?
split?
Everything changed when the piano bender attacked
like workout split
thats true! its the piano and art benders fault
we also did include a healthy dose of science and education bending tho
Ahhh
Which is a literal thinking and hormonal challenge ๐
it is still relevant to this thread! its health and fitness!
Very true, shoutout to my pcos girlies with fitness struggles ๐ญ
damn right
Was supposed to go to the gym tonight but my cousins need babysitting cause their parents are going to Chicago for a conventuon, guess I'm not going
No youre not ๐
Thereโs always a next time. Playing with your cousins is a mini workout imo
ez. deadlift the babies
๐คฃ
@light ember Just wanted to reaffirm that this thread was made for working out/fitness, but #creative-corner and #creative-discussion are for art. I didn't make this thread and def not a mod, just saying
cute pabu nonetheless
More like curl the babies
lateral raise the babies ๐คฃ
r u an avid lifter?
If you're gonna grab a baby like that you'd need big hands
perfect, grip training
just went to the gym ๐
awesome! whatd u do
i trained chest and arms, but my legs are still sore from leg day 2 days ago ๐
i've also been trying to do a L-sit the last week but its so hard lol
bruh sometimes my legs are sore for like 3 days
nicee! r u following a program or anything?
tbh, no i probably should but i dont know where to begin i just do what i feel like ๐ญ
how about you?
its prob ideal to have a program just to make sure u dont over/undertrain certain muscles
what r ur goals mainly?
strength, size?
gaining muscle + weight
im not sure how many lbs i am but i'm trying to gain atleast 2 kgs
i dont know how many pounds that is, i think 4?
yeah around!
o ok, so it looks like ur aiming for hypertrophy (increasing muscle size)
i assume gaining strenght isnt a big priroity for u right?
i mean not really, it's nice but i'd rather have the physique i want
thats good! if strenght isnt ur priroity, then u can be very felxible with ur weight training for gaining muscle size
rather than recommend a program and possibly overwhelm u, i think for now its ok to just train however u want. whatever gets u consistent first. the only thing id recommend keeping in mind right now is to make sure u train the muscles evenly and not only focus on a few
For example, one of the biggest pitfalls w not having a program is that some "bros" just want big arms and chest, and only train those, and while that is ok for a while, sooner or later they overdevelop thier arms and chest while their back is relatively weak, and that can cause muscle imbalances and lead to issues down the road. so as long as ur training ur muscles evenly, i think its ok. Of course having a program is ideal, but whats best is what gets u in the gym
thank you for the tip, everything is appreciated!! (:
and i can see what you mean, i try to divide my days evenly, so for example biceps + chest and then legs + back, but exactly what you said: whatever gets u in the gym you know
LMAO I WISH
yup! o one last thing. when u lift, make sure u properly challenge urself, because science shows thats what ultimately drives muscle growth. so if ur lifting the weight and its effortless, then u should either up the weight (ormake it harder somehow)
ideally the last few reps should be much slower than ur first few, and it doesnt have to be until u fail completely, but maybe 1-3 reps close to it
i think i've heard of that yeah, i sometimes forget to push myself a little more hehe
thats normal. when u first begin its expected. but ull still progress so no worries
You can work out your hands all you want and they won't get big
They're bones, not muscles
What I said was if you're gonna grab a basketball whole or as we joked, grabbing a baby by the body, you need really large hands
Which I wish I had :/
grip trainings to improve ur grip strength, not hand size ๐คฃ
but yes i realize u cant train ur hadns to be bigger, its just a joke
talking bout wokring out yet im eating that right now
๐ญ
its bad, but so goooood
@empty wigeon how long did u do wushu for
hey
for about....
3-4 year i want to say, my main focus was kung fu when i did chinese martial arts
what i did realize...
Wushu Broadsword is like paper compared to Kung Fu Broadsword
hahah yeah, because wushu is mainly performative now
not really used for fighting
In legend of kora mako uses what looks like traditonal boxing when he fights like a pro bender and honestly its really well animaited
western boxing?
yeah pro bending has a western boxing style to it
yup
cool cool
you both want to visit a place and learn martial arts over there?
i want to visit Korea and Chin
a
wow where in china?
oh nice nice
beijing wushu team is top notch for wushu
they're the cream of the crop
i think Jet Li got noticed, was a part of a wushu team i think
yeah jet li use to be part of the beijing wushu team, then he got noticed and became a movie star ๐
lol, i wouldnt mind getting noticed
Not really im fine with training anything that works
where did u learn wushu from, and what stylee of chinese kung fu
the Wushu... all i remember is that it was call Contemporary Wushu
yeah, contemporary wushu is a sport. it takes traditional styles and turns it into a performative art, kinda like katas in karate
yeah
i have been to about 3 demonstrations btw
what do u like more, contemporary wushu or traditional kung fu?
haha, have u tried wing chun?
I'd say to train like a bender you'd honestly depend on the type earth benders i reccomend a more tradtional kick boxing since heavy on your feet and gonna have to tank a few hits every now and then fire benders in korra have more boxing light on there feet
yeah honestly different styles of training depending on which bending u wanna imitate or which person even
elements of martial arts
Martial artsx honeslty just depend on the person not the art
well, different arts demand different things...
Kung Fu stressed the sidekick
tae kwon do the roundhouse kick
muay thai the thai kick
yeah its just whoevers the better fighter lmao
I've done all of them in kick boxing used each of them kicks just not the thai kick during sparring
i know how to block any kick
no one can block any kick
martial arts sound so interesting, i did karate & judo when i was younger but that didnt keep up with me lol
i went to a Shen Yun play onc
it was good
@cedar reef how bad do you feel the fir
e
me too ๐ญ
Lower kicks are honestly just better for fighting
to not kick above the waist
I was taught when i was like 9 lower the kick the better you can get more force out its harder to block or grab and doesnt leave you open
thats why muy thai is OP, those sweeping kicks
Theres a kick i got taught that ive used abit where you'd hook your foot around the back of someones ankle then get as much force as you can with the leg thats not hooked kick right in the stomach its self destructive but it works wonders
thats your favorite kick?
bad
no idk what u mean lmao
how much do you wan it
No
my favourite kick is just a calf or just stomach kick
my favorite kick is the snap kick
extremely easy and i see it as extremely effective
Just passed my karate grading, I'm now 8th Kyu!
Thanks! Did it whilst full of cold and coughing a lot too, I need some frozen frogs ๐ค
Ngl I've gotten lazy missing out on the gym for playing games here and Swedish learning
worth though
Yooo congrats!!!
CONGRATS
hi
hey @real iron
hows it going
sure~!
ok
it can hold way more
can see my gloves and the box thnig to th bottom right is camera and equipment
nice gloves, maybe next time we can see those gloves in action
no haha, i dont do martial arts anymorw
for social media
make martial arts videos
the equipment was on discount
had to get it
nice, which martial arts would u focus on
prob best way to start is tik tok
martial arts is good for clips
i heard of tik tok
thing is, its just me currently
i can't do anything
theatrical martial for the focus
martial arts*
oh, where r u from?
US East Coast
oh
yeah tik tok is super easy to start by urself
phone and record urself doing cool tricks
ill google it one day
wait, u dont know tik tok?
naw only heard of it
ill google it now
ahh
i would need people to who would want to be on a team
thats the hard part
heard of Martial Club and EMC Monkeys?
no
ooh, whats the mostpopular video or clip
must go, see you Zhao
My cousin said that my back is huge
also the shoulders
proud of the work out im doing
ayooo good work ๐
@steel atlas Great work, champ! No one really recognizes their progress until someone else points it out
oh 100%
i wish to train
then do it broo
i willl
Nice work!!
what would be a good workout plan to try and get a similar body to Korra while not having any equipment?
There's a link for a calisthenics oriented program pinned
#1169903023758245949 message
thanks
that's aimed to train you "like Korra"
Push ups help a lot! Especially wider ones, if you have anything you could use for pull ups they are great too
Honestly for core planks are great but I don't think they are mentioned in that program
I would honestly say work strength that push ups and planks are my favorite
Push ups can be SO great for the back when worked properly. I really like them
Do planks anyway
One of the best ab exercises
i started doing standing workouts cus i dont have the motivation for anything else
thats so amazing
hi
any women on here working on weight training? i'm working on gen. stamina and strength training, would be cool to meet some girlies pursuing similar stuff
I haven't done weight training in a LONG time, but I'm going to restart it in a few days when I get back to the gym
no equipment, your best bet would be bodyweight exercises aka calisthenics
oops nm,someonealready answered! ๐
Oh those are FUN
Calisthenics r hard ๐ญ
I gotta start training again
I've been sick for weeks
But I'm finally feeling better
lets get it ๐ช
what do u mean where r the hip thrusts
bro shes 14..
Today's gym log:
Deadlifted 315
Farmer's carries
Barbell row
Gorilla row
Ab cruncher machine
Burned 500cal on treadmill
nice! so r u still trying ot progress on the deadlift now? or r u maintaing?
I'm happy where I am for the moment
awesome. what do u do to maintain ur progress
ive always reesarched how to progress, how to bulk/cut etc. but never thought about how to maintain when i get there
I work and build on specific body parts that the deadlift requires
in terms of the actual deadlifting exercise tho, do u still do it regularly to maintain? or do u just do the exercises on the specific body parts and then take a break from the deadlift altogether?
Final exam over so time to get on the grind
First up 3.4km walk home in the rain
U got this
Fr fr
Going to collect some bull ant queens first tho
What r those
Tw ant
Also
Rain
The former
o why do u need to collect those
Cause I keep them as pets
ic. so u still do the deadlift, but at a less frequency then?
it honestly isnt needed
only time its absolutely needed is if ur trianing to compete
if i need to get a chiropractor to check that then buhao
but other than that, just general fitness and health its not required
i just dont push myself that hard, and never do low reps
exercise itself isnt too bad, its when ppl try to go for 1 rep maxes and do super heav weight is when u begin to ahve problems
ye
I'm proud of how far I've gotten
im just asking about how u program it when ur maintaining, vs when u r trying to increase the weight
I increase the weight whenever I feel like it is time and when I'm taking my time that's all
who told u that ๐
deadlifts r great for your back and legs if done properly with not too heavy weights
A chiropractor and my PT...
Did u get a pt and chiropractor from deadlifts?
the gains<the potential injury
Squats I'm fine with since it's not ground up
Yes
squats are fine cus its a natural body movement
deadlifts are more organic in a sense
if you bend ur back and then with weight
its iffy
Yeah lemme tell ya deadlifts are what you call an important lift for long term health
wut
I don't have to explain
10 4
Today's workout: deadlifted 10 cabbages
my mom has disc issues and our chiropractor also told her to be very careful with deadlifts and similar exercises ๐ซ
every exorcise is beneficial depending on the person, like someone with asthma probably shouldnโt do extensive cardio
Need to try that Korra workout
All this talk on deadlifts remind me of my first time doing lower body exercises when gyms opened back up. I started doing the weight I used to do prior without taking atrophy into account.
Long story short, I stayed at home for the next month, with the first 3-4 days of said month being me laying in bed cause I couldn't get up. Remember to stretch and know your limits everyone!
stretching is so so good couldn't agree more
Today ima try deadlift 12 cabbage. New Record?
holy deadlift discussion lol
im not taking any sides, but the main issue w the deadlift is that ppll push it to the max with poor technique, leading to injuries. You rarely ever do that with any machine exercises, so deadlift injuries are gonna be more common, since its a competitive lift
but the same concept applies with any barbell compound movement. squats you can also easily injure yourself as much as deadlifts
so it isnt just deadlift, but all technical compound lifts that require a lot of skill to get good at
i mean yeah issue is alot if people dont tend to bother at getting good if theyre casual lifters and still do it
oh no i wanst saying u wanted sides. i just wanted to say what i said without seeming like I was defending one side or another, because it really depends on ur goals, and what u mean by bad for u, etc. etc.
but overall, i agree for the average gym goer the risk/benefit is not worth it
it definitely has its benefits and is still a great exercise, but it does have its risks
but i feel that risk is shared amongst other free weight compound lifts, like squat. if anything i feel the barbell squat is more dangerous than the deadlift
No no i know LMAO but it devolved into that so fast
yeah like i dont llike ppl arguing for one side or the other, thres a bit of nuance. what i strongly disagree tho is people saying deadlift is NECESSARY to get strong, which is just not true
and with regards to building muscle, even less so
everybody has a diff situation in any case
if you like DL, then do a DL
and so forth yk
too many gym bros saying the deadlift is NECESSARY is just harmful, bc its really not at all
yeah its why i dont do bench press
i can barely do 1 rep of the bar (its 20kg)
Well if you wanna strengthen your legs, abs, and back you would do it with proper form and take your time of course
haha yeah, even bench press isn't "required" Theres many other aexercises to do, and if you're only concerned with building your chest, the barbell bench press actually might not be ideal.
Guys I've been training a lot
I'm gonna try 16 cabbages
I did it!!!!!!
I'm so tired..
omg appa im a huge fan

16!? wow thats new world record
Does anyone here use rings?
Rings?
I think she means these
I use wooden ones at this rock climbing gym I used to visit
Mostly for pull ups and L sits
Those yeah
Trying to find ideas of how to set up some indoors... Alternatives to trying to hang them from the ceiling or getting a power tower but still keeping them away from the walls...
Have yall heard of a dragon squat? Its a variation of the pistol squat
i can do it on my right leg but not my left leg ๐
Weโre opposites i feel more confident on my left than my right.

Alright, to my fellow lifters I got a question for you
When doing dropsets, do you actually have a rest time between sets or not?
I'm reworking my routine of dropsets to be more efficiently and I have come across multiple articles saying that you should not rest, while some say you should rest for 20-30 seconds and no more, while others say that you can rest for 1-2 minutes.
See my dilemma? I'm confused on whether if dropsets should have a rest time between sets, and if so then how long.
I have been holding off on committing to the gym for more than 1x a week because I'm still stuck on this
It's up to you ngl.
It's recommended for stamina and endurance 1-2mins. But for a lotta people they do less just cause of schedules.
I do 1 min.
Then I'll try doing 1 minute then, my workouts used to take up 1.5 hours so I've been wanting to reduce the amount of time since I go in the late evening
hi
depends why ur doing dropsets in the first place, but ultimately it doesn't really matter
yeah just do less time then
hellooo
if you have the time defintely recommend atleast 1.5min rest between sets.

feeling motivated to start routine again
imma finish some school work then work out
Been getting REAL good at the pullups at the park lately
I do this along with leg raises to work my abs
Nice! Leg raises a simple but effective way to train those abs, especially for beginners and intermediates
idk if this thread is still active or not but i'm getting motivated into running again and kinda just wanted to share it (cuz if i put it out in the universe, then i'll have to stick to my word (maybe lol)). Anyways, its been a long time since i even jogged but i remember once i got used to it, it was fun. i just havent done that in over a year and had a pretty sedentary lifestyle since then ๐ so here's to doing a 12 week plan to get back into running/jogging. may have to repeat a lot of weeks but it'll be worth it
are you trying to run 5k
Yeah that's the ending goal
cool beans
I think most 5k plans start with running in intervals
run 30 secs, walk 60 secs, etc. then progressively more running
Yeah for now I'm gunna start off with whatever I can do and just slowly build into week 1
I haven't ran in a while
cool beans
yess do it!! i do runs too now
let us know how it goes! I love running and love to hear bout ur progress!
Sure! I think for the first 2 weeks I'm not gunna go with the plan instead I'll just slowly get back into it.
Yesterday I worked out my arms so rn they're sore but it's a good thing so I'm glad lol
Lol everyone I know has been getting back into running
Eat your protein ppl
Eggs on a hamburger should do it ๐๐ณ
its that season
true
hi
I eat chicken teriyaki and brown rice almost everyday, I get most of my protein, carbs, and calories from that
I would get so bored of the rice
I mix the chicken and rice together so I eat both with one bite
Plus I'm Filipino so having rice with every meal was a staple for me growing up
Oh you're Filipinoooo
Yeah, when everyone else was having bread or mashed potatoes I had rice
i am training like a bender and i lost my leg trying to be an airbender
Today I'm about to have all three lol ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ
And unfortunately couldn't find time to run today but I can do an indoor track tmr HOPEFULLY
My week three of back workouts its going amazing
Anyone got a toph workout?
Ik alot is strenght snd like strongman training but like i want one for body
I need to run today but my legs are close to cramping up ๐ญ
Yall my back is so stiff like a plank ๐ญ
I'm trying to do stretches and I can barely touch my toes
just do the stretches 3x a week and ull become a lot more flexible, but one tip is dont bounce when doing the toe touches you can damage some muscles lol
Hmm okay! I'll take your advice. Today was the first day I started running and jogging and stuff. I could only do it for 30 seconds at a time ๐ญ
But at least it's somethjng
thats better than nothing, but yeah for beginning just try not to stand still, start running until you cant then slow down or walk. Is so much better than running then stopping running then stopping etc :D but good luck!!
Thank you!! I actually did that today lol I'm gunna try to do some other workouts tmr
hi
sounds delicious
outside of the learning/training for the actual martial arts style, theres really no big difference in terms of training for all the styles of bending. If you want bodyweight exercises only, you basically do any bodyweight routine u find online
Mmm sad
Except there is one i found like been using for 2 weeks
not really, that means u can train many ways u want!
thats good!
My legs don't hurt today!!!! Time to go back and run (jog)!!!
hi
hi
hi
@uncut zephyr
hi
i lost a leg bc of this training
I haven't been able to run since the last time I tried. I'm not ar home or have a scheduled routine rn
and what about my leg??
i lost it
Did you find it
NO
Well you better keep looking
with a toph emoji
well ask to her
