#dedicated-servers

Yeah, well, people may want to make it seem simple to host a server, but it's not simple. You need some particular tech knowledge. It's not a weakness to ask for help with it, or even pay for it. :)
There's a bit of a road to go from "setting it up" to the ease of just typing up a web address and just going there.
yeah i usually get in the weeds when their are little things they leave out most of the time its finding the right ports lol
Well, all of the information is right up there, on the Wiki. If you haven't changed them, the ports are the default ones - also on the Wiki.
yeah founf them for satisfactory easily which was great
That it is. I can tell you that the Wiki contains all of the relevant information required to get your server going. Making sure it's Internet-reachable, however, is outside the scope of that document (or the Wiki itself), however there are excellent tutorials on the web, and there likely exist tutorials for your particular router's make & model, too.
Some routers offer a configuration backup facility, too. If yours does, avail yourself of it - if you break things, you can always reset the router (if necessary to get back in) and then restore the backup.
Hey guys, i still cannot connect to my server. I can see it being online, the server ping is 1ms (It's in my local area network so makes sense), previously it worked, but now i get a timeout error.
Also when i try to ping the server pc with cmd, i get timed outs
Oh wow i think i found the problem.. I'm gonna check if this works ill post the fix
Fully disabling the firewall does not appear to be working either. I can now however ping the pc from cmd
I had the "allow this app to bypass the firewall" promt or whatever it was. i tapped accept, but it's still not fixed
How do I join dedicated servers cause I have no friends with this game
whats the cause of forced respawns?
you need to know the address of the server and add it to the server manager
Oh thx
[2022.07.04-08.50.30:856][432]LogNet: NotifyAcceptingConnection accepted from: [::ffff:127.0.0.1]:57197
This is what the server log keeps saying. Over and over until it fails
[2022.07.04-08.51.16:888][669]LogTemp: Warning: Finished!
It ends with this and then my client cant connect
do you host the dedicated server on your pc?
Another pc, on LAN
Its a windows pc
I tried using both epic games store for the dedicated server and steamcmd
Does anyone know what this means or the above messages? I dont think i had those messages before (while it still worked)
how can someone join a dedicated server from outside of my router? i installed trough steamcmd and running as an anonymous
You have to port forward
Btw my problem is fixed, i had to readd the ip of the server for some reason (even though it was still the same)
There are 3 ports you need to forward, though it works with 1 port (15777 udp) here
ik how to port forward
Okay
just i tought there are special ports
thankyou!
Hello, does someone know why on dedicated servers you can't pick up grass at certain locations?
thx
something else
i'm trying to make a reverse proxy with nginx but i can't connect to my server with this config
anyone knows why?
Happens in my dedi server, the way I’ve found out how is I log out far away from where the issue is then restart the server, come back and it works
my server won't open (neither steam or epic games), anyone might know why?
a friend have the same error message, but im able to join - using dedicated windows-rootserver 🤔
Try to 'delete' the server in the client, then add the server again
From what I've seen, reverse-proxying the server doesn't seem to function.
Restarting without going anywhere also works, actually. And you can check it immediately, too. ;)
Have you guys been experiencing performance issues since the last hotfix?
We somehow all encounter some lag every 30 minutes or so since the last patch
And we all experience it at the same time
Have you configured the autosave time to be 30 minutes, perhaps?
No it's every 10 🤔
You think it could be related to autosave?
It always has been for me, at any rate.
Maybe they added in some sort of periodic cleanup. Would certainly make it easier on the save process... (instead of having one massive several-seconds-long drop, it would get distributed over time as smaller drops)
Hmm weird, i'll have to pay attention to it then.
But it's weird, it only started after the last hotfix
The log may say something incidental to the lag spike.
Note the time it happens next, and the next time, and see if it coincides with the same log message both times. It just might.
(then again, it might not; YMMV)
Ok I'll check it out next time it happens, what I've noticed as I have a windows schedular set for 8am everyday to restart pc and server starts automatically if i stay in the hub area trees and foilage grow back
these bugs are getting pretty funny
After I build an explorer, and drive it, it clones
They do that, yeah. I think it's either a patch for the gathering thing - I fully expect the issue to be a desync issue, where the game thinks the things aren't there, but draws them anyway, so a patch would be to remove and re-add all of the foliage and trees in one pass.
All vehicles seem to have afterimages at present. They're not driveable.
The work bench has also completely seperated itself from the Explorer lol
Still, all of the bugs seem to stem from the same general issue - the game being confused about the thing and the representation of the thing. It's the same for grass/trees (can't pick up, can show), the boulders (can't blow up, can show), and the vehicles (can't interact, can show).
That is definitely a new one for me... but it also might explain why vehicles bounce around...
That video should go up on the bugtracker, to be honest. Might provide a vital clue.
you mean on the forums?
No, on the tracker. They have a tracker you need to register on. Unless they're also calling it a "forum"?
send me a link
does anyone know why my server won't open? i tried from epic games and from steam cmd and it doesn't work
Define "doesn't work" please. More details are required.
What are the symptoms of it "not working"? What have you tried that resulted in it "not working"?
that's what i mean with doesn't work
Define "won't open", because that's ambiguous.
the application won't start
Does it leave any logs behind?
nope it won't even open the console
Windows, I assume?
yeah
There's a Log Viewer in Windows. Please go there and find a crash entry for the application. Tell us what it says.
plz helpme
I bought a server but I don't know how to make it experimental can you help me?
how's the app called? i can't find "Log Viewer" in my computer
To open the Log Viewer (actually named the Event Viewer), the fastest way is to right-click on "This Computer" and select "Manage" - then find it in the tree on the left.
if i want a premium server hoster ? (don't care much about the price at this point) who should i choose , feel like Gportal stutters and a lot of lag
It would probably be fastest if you contacted your host's technical support with that question.
Though it depends on how you set it up. Is it a "Satisfactory server" service?
I bought it as vds, I installed it manually, my server is on, but I don't know the experimental setup.
Ah.
Well, setting up Experimental essentially adds -beta experimental to your install command.
thanks
(same app ID)
Keep in mind that saves are not backwards-compatible.
(u6 saves cannot be loaded in u5)
so make a backup.
Also note that u6 uses approx. 25% more RAM, at least currently.
sorry for being in spanish 😂

dont work man
For future reference, you have as much access to translate.google.com as everyone else here. ;P
You're doing it wrong, somehow. Show your install command.
wait
It should be saving a crash log, going by that message. Find it.
FactoryServer.exe -log -unattended -beta experimental
didn't want the translation to be nonsense
No. I said install command, not run command. :)
what
Did you install the dedicated server?
steamcmd +login anonymous +force_install_dir SatisfactoryDedicatedServer +app_update 1690800 +quit
Yeah. Add -beta experimental before +quit and you're done.
steamcmd +login anonymous +force_install_dir SatisfactoryDedicatedServer +app_update 1690800 -beta experimental +quit
done ?
Yeah, pretty much. Though all of this is, for the record, explained on the Wiki.
I would recommend using a different path for it?
thanks man
That way you can keep both, should you want 'em.
Also, I thought +force_install_dir blah needs to go before +login?
The server is telling you that it can't use port 15777, for whatever reason. Either you lack sufficient permissions to bind to that port, or there's already something else running on it.
For starters, verify that you don't already have a server running - that's the most common cause.
It's possible it happened if you tried launching it by double-clicking it -- the window probably disappeared, so you thought it crashed, but it actually started up (just without the window), and has probably been running ever since. Any subsequent attempt to launch the same server would bail with "could not bind to port 15777" then, since it's already taken.
i'll check the task manager and restart
Has they been any bugs with trains and unloading the wrong stuff at a station?
"unloading the wrong stuff"?
yeah we have a stup and it unloading when it shoudnt be
I haven't played with trains much myself, but... don't these unload all they have? Or am I wrong in my assumption?
Ah, I see.
Good to know. :-)
Is this issue specific to dedicated servers?
Or can you replicate it client-side?
(if the code is shared between the stations and the programmable splitters, that might be the issue too - the programmable splitters are bugged to hell and back)
For future reference, your EOS ID might be more important to protect than your IP, especially if the IP is on a LAN.
How can I fix
If in doubt, protect both. :)
No idea, because I've no idea what's wrong yet.
This is on a purchased machine, yes?
yes
Can you see it on the UI list as working?
Contact your server provider and ask them if they allow connections on all of the required ports.
These are all non-standard, so they might not.
Otherwise, switch the ports to something else.
It might be possible that they don't want game servers on their machines, so they block 7777 for example.
I can't seem to find the SaveGames location. I get to FactoryGame and all that's in it is Config and Logs
They're held in the user's home folder, not in the game's folder. The location somewhat depends on whether you're on Windows or Linux.
I told about it where I bought it, they will take care of it
I'm running the server off of Linux, but I'm playing on Windows
You're looking for the server's save games, right?
Yes
I think it's ~/.config/Epic/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames.
That's also where ServerSettings are.
That's what I was saying above, I get there, but there's only Config and Logs under saved
Then you're in the wrong place.
Config and Logs is stored under SERVER_INSTALL_DIR/FactoryGame/Saved
Yup, you're in the server's install folder.
Is that correct or no?
Where?
In the path I gave you.
Let me CD to it
It means "home folder for the particular user I'm running as".
For my game, it translates to /home/steam
The issue is I'm hosting this through a 3rd party software called AMP which creates virtual instances
Also note that, depending on how your stuff is configured, dot-files and dot-folders may be hidden from you.
Holy shit
I found it
I see what you meant
It's not even inside of the game directory at all
That's kinda dumb
I don't surely understand why they split it (I'm used to being able to provide the path to saves, and them otherwise being in the server's folder), but they did.
Yeah. I went and bound that to another location
But appreciate the help
Speaking of doing that on Windows, we seem to have gone down a dark, dark path of AppData. What's the point of asking where to install your shit if you're going to keep 90% of it on the system disk anyway.
Yea honestly
I used to be able to get away with 50 GB system partitions. Now I need to keep around 200 GB because you never know...
At least some installers have done away with asking, and are no longer pretending you get a choice.
Thankfully, you can still move those folders to another disk... though it's painful and kinda involved. But it's still possible.
(it's also possible - though not many people know this - to map a partition into an NTFS folder, much like on Linux)
Ooh
anyone can reccomend a good server hoster ? Gportal is full of stutters and lag all the time
Coming back to my lag, it happens after the server saves
So you were right @blazing halo
I guess there's nothing to help with it
so everytime the game saves there is a bunch of lag and stuttering for 10 seconds ? trains moving backwards etc?
Well, the server freezes for the time it takes it to save,
so everything goes back to where it was before it started saving.
No stuttering or anything. Just, a spring-back.
yea thats like when i save when hosting privately ...
how much ram should i atleast have on a dedicated server ?
9 GB for u5, probably 12 GB for u6.
That should be a comfortable minimum, I'd say.
But since the server doesn't really seem to grow much beyond that... I'd say that's a good amount overall.
(and it already includes a bit of "leftover" RAM for other OS-related tasks and housekeeping)
im just not happy with the provider i have, im not sure if its just cause it's dedicated or if its that provider
again
You said they'd take care of it. Did they?
I gave mine all the ram i have available and it's using only 9-10 on U6
Hi everyone, I'm looking for help in setting up a dedicated server.
I'm using a Windows 10 Machine and have used the Steam GUI to download the Dedicated Server Software via the "tools" tab.
I've forwarded ports 15000, 15777, and 7777 to my host machine through my router, and I have set up Windows Defender rules to allow UDP traffic on the same ports. While in game under the "Server Manager" tab, if I add the server via the Public IP or my network(or the DuckDNS associated domain) I am able to see the Status of the Server(Game Ongoing) and the ping to the server, however I am unable to connect/join using the public IP. When using the LAN IP of the host machine, I am quickly able to join and play.
Any ideas for how to connect via the Public IP of the network?
Can you verify that literally anyone outside of your LAN can connect or not?
You could try disconnecting your PC from the LAN, and then using a tethered GSM connection to try.
(some phones offer the "personal hotspot" option as well)
The point is to be outside your LAN.
(with the server remaining inside of it, obviously)
The host machine for the server is the same as my client, I will have to wait for a friend to be off to verify if they can/'t.
Then do that. The results of that test determine further action (if any).
i'm having issues updating my server to the newest update. would anyone be able to help id rather not have to start this world over again.
If by "updating" you mean moving from stable to experimental, please make a backup of your saves as u6 saves are not backwards-compatible with u5 (you can load u5 saves into u6, but not the other way around).
Updating the server is done by using the same install command. Migrating to experimental is done by appending -beta experimental to it. It's all described in the Wiki. I'd recommend installing to a separate directory.
^
yeah didnt work it kept crashing on startup after updating
im currenty migrating my game files from linux to windows server
Wipe the server's folder and try again. Or install to another location. Reconfigure to use another port, or backup the ServerSettings file - that might be an issue, I suppose.
Out of curiosity, how much RAM do you have available?
the server its running on has 128 but the vm i built for it has 32
[6:02 PM]
since i have other vms running off of that server
i couldnt find anything other than error core dumped
The logs themselves would likely be in INSTALL_DIR/FactoryGame/Saved/Logs
Should be a CrashLog there.
i just migrated back to using windows for the server
ummmmm yeah that VM no longer exists.
The host OS should be a no-issue. I personally host under Debian, no issues for either u5 or u6.
So I have to think that it's a misconfiguration, somehow.
Still, if it dumped core, that's decidedly weird...
Unless you're using something like musl C or something...
im not as experienced in linux as id like to be other than kali linux
I see no reason for it to coredump unless something in the system is profoundly different, like - a different standard C library...
could've been but i had this issue with that version of linux on my other VMs running other game servers with the same core dump error being a common thread.
Then something like that might actually be it.
Whatever it is, it'll probably be compiled against the standard libc, because most people have that.
But then, that's a quirk of your underlying OS, not the gameserver itself.
If you're disinclined to Debian's systemd, there's a version running sysv (I think) called Devuan. Essentially the same thing, sans systemd.
Sure.
Hello, isn't there a Console command that I can use to fly under the map to remove unnecessary chest icons from the map?
There is not. There is, however, a spot you can use to get under the map, though you will need to build out foundations if you wish to get anywhere once you're down there (there's only the Chasm of Doom below).
That little white triangle - it's a waterfall. Be careful going down, as there's very little ground to stand on once you drop.
It's easiest to use a hoverpack, if you have it. Prep for a long excursion, consisting mostly of laying down foundations and power pylons.
I actually managed to build enough subterranean infrastructure (on mine) to traverse the entire map, north-east to south-west, but be aware that the whole thing is about 5 minutes of travel time by tube. It took about two weeks to build, as well. No matter how many resources you take, it won't be enough, trust me. ;P Thankfully, it's relatively easy to punch tubes up to the surface (as they will naturally align to ground once you target up; do remember to punch up a power pylon if you're planning on making a return trip via the same tube, though).
It's actually a great place to build anything water-related, as you can punch pipes up to the surface (needs a foundation and some sort of an attachment point however), and once extracted, the water only has to go down. Once down, assuming you're on always-level ground, it's a cinch to get it literally anywhere with no extra pumps.
Also, I'm not sure - haven't tried yet - but I fully expect drones to work there... seeing as they seem to ignore any solid objects when they fly (including buildings and mountains). Don't see why they wouldn't... :D
The only real issue is that the area is ugly as sin. :D
Could you possibly send it? Where is it? Even Private?
It's like directly beneath his message 😄
thanks 🙂
Hey hey 👋
The experimental branch of the dedicated server should be compatible with the latest client, right?
When pulling the latest update via SteamCMD from that branch, I get this:
If it changes anything, we're using the linux version of the dedicated server 👀
I just checked my own (linux) server, my game 194360 connects to it just fine.
Could you show us the update command you're using?
The server you're connecting to is on the stable branch. You need to add -beta experimental to install the experimental branch.
188609 is the current EA/stable/u5 branch build version.
Yupp, thank you! Appreciate it
Hello, has the multiplayer expansion method changed from version 6?
I modified the game.ini file. However, there is no change in max_player.
Like this.
No it hasn’t you have to add it
But that option is didn't work.. Is anything another method?
Well. I was stupid. I edited \AppData\Local\FactoryGame\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor.
However, I should have modified C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SatisfactoryDedicatedServer\FactoryGame\Saved\Config\WindowsServer by installing it on steam.
I see the conveyor belt reversing is still here too.
im having trouble connecting to my dedicated server. i tried with my local server ip address and with my public ip address and both give the same error.
it worked fine on Friday. ive verified the server install restarted the game server, client pc, server hardware and double checked all the firewall rules. even tried different dns servers.
You can try -multihome=ipv4.address.of.server to force it to let go of IPv6. Might help.
i would start it with
./Factoryserver.sh -multihome=lanip
Success thank you. no idea why it wanted to use ipv6. i dont even have that enabled on any of my subnets.
It's enabled in the game by default, and if your system offers - it'll use it.
And it seems that, internally, it takes precedence.
so if i go in to the proxmox container for the server and disable ipv6 that should solve the issue?
Is there a way to search for specifically dedicated servers in gmt
I killed it system-wide for my own, and it was never an issue (or so it would seem).
> in gmt
?
time zone
like ive been looking for a dedicated server in my timezone, but not having any luck in the lfg channel
Oh.
As far as I know, there aren't any official servers - just whatever other people make available. As such, I wasn't aware there's a method to search for servers at all - in any timezone, period.
in southern California i can host just let me know for anyone interested 🙂
i think my ping would be too high
i found so long as your ping is sub 100 its playable. im gmt-5 and i played with some one in gmt -0 and so long has their connection was stable it was okay. he was the host biggest issue we ran into was when his upload would drop.
Does anyone of you know how to change the autosave interval on dedicated?
from the console.
FG.AutosaveInterval xxx [in seconds]
how high do you have it ?
i have it set to the default i believe its 15 minutes and when a player logs out.
no default is every 5 minutes and when player logs out it performs a world save
Does that actually get saved to the .ini file?
Configuration changes made at the server Console (e. g. FG.AutosaveInterval) are stored to disk upon a graceful server shutdown, and do not need to be re-implemented when the server is restarted unless the configuration files are removed or reverted.
from the wiki
Thanks. That's good to know.
whenever i try to join my server crashes
What does the log say?
it is saying that i timed out and then the server restarts
What does the server log say about the crash?
How much RAM does your server machine have, by the way?
6 GB
it just kept saying
06.07 00:45:57 [Server] INFO [2022.07.06-00.45.57:427][454]LogNavigationDirtyArea: Warning: Skipping dirty area creation because of empty bounds (object: FoliageInstancedStaticMeshComponent /Game/FactoryGame/Map/GameLevel01/Tile_X3_Y4.Tile_X3_Y4:PersistentLevel.InstancedFoliageActor_0.FoliageInstancedStaticMeshComponent
That's likely too little for either u5 or u6, but especially u6.
u5, when fully loaded, uses something between 6.7 and 7.6 GB
and u6, in the same conditions, 8 to 10 GB.
so should i make it u5?
You can try, but I would just add more RAM.
Especially if it's an older system, RAM should be cheap enough to even outright replace if you're out of slots.
can I download a save from the server?
There's options to upload one, but I don't see an option to download it..
the only way is by getting it from the save location in the server
dumb. alright thanks
On their TO-DO list, actually. Simply not implemented yet.
There are things that have higher priority, like bug-fixes. :D
So I was wondering why the connection to my dedi server could not be established from external, even though I forwarded the tree default ports. Found that the server opens a very strange, high port there. If I forward that one, it works! Does someone know why it does that and how I get it to use 15777, 15000 and 7777?
That really looks like a connected client to me...

I restarted t like 7 times and now it works without that port forwarded... I wonder whether I should open port triggering for that port range in my router, or does the server do that with UPnP? I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to TCP stuff 😄
Actually, the ports are all UDP.
Even worse :LUL: but you're right, and I opened them as UDP.
Don't do port triggering, there's no need. Don't use UPnP, it's a security/administration risk.
TBH, I don't even know if this shitty ISP provided router even supports UPnP. Every setting in there is pretty much a guessing game, port forwarding is supported since last firmware update... I'll be switching that over to a nice Draytec Vigor this week. I just was committed to try and get it to work now 😄
But now I have U5 EA and U6 Exp servers running in parallel, both can be accessed and connected, running different saves. Very nice 🙂
Lucky you.
how do i setup a dedicated server?
so i get these error messages when i run experimental dedicated servers
Is it possible to save a savefile via the Server manager Console, so i can keep it for my own?
Does anyone have a free dedicated server me and my friend can use?
Could you possibly boil these logs down to the messages you actually want to show, for a start?
Do you want to save, or do you want to download a save?
Download a save
Not currently possible. It's on the List, but there are higher priorities currently. It will be done, Eventually(tm). You can always download manually, from the server (just not through the in-game UI).
Gotcha, thank you!
I can host one for you but i live in southern California let me know
Noob question that has probably been answered but couldn't find it with search. With the update that came out I tried updating a dedicated server and it installed the same version not the updated version that the client is running. Can I force a server update to v0.6.0.7?
Edit: using steamcmd on windows
More info:
Game client: 194712
Server: 194360
I've tried verifying and it will reinstall the update but not server version 0.6.0.7
fixed it using the steam version
Hey. If I'm getting this and I myself don't have control over the server, is it possible to roll back the version of my client, so it matches?
okay why this happen ?
hmmm. Im using the wolveix container but it bricked after I restarted to update :/ after deleting the gamefiles folder and downloading the game from scratch I was able to recover 🙂
Found a bug with Water-Extractor, Coordinates: 1522, -18 (small sea near swamp)
try to remove server from server-manager and readd it.
Well my server has hard crashed twice now
what are the server specs and do you see any errors in the sever logs
no there is not you just need to update the server
where are the logs ?
where the server is installed
yeah and after that it should be in this location \FactoryGame\Saved\Logs
there old form 2021
no there should be with the current day.. like this
hey im having this same issue after a crash. what did you do to solve this
my issue spicifically
Yeah mines arnt so I have a clue now
i had to use an old backing
mostly that means that you haven't even started the server yet
or you not logging it
but im pretty sure it should log it by default
saw some posts from ~ 8 months ago abuot trains being wonky on dedi servers. Is this still an issue? I'm unable to dock, they're showing on random locations on the map and won't switch to different tracks
Guess it's BELTS everywhere lol
trains are working for un in U6 fine
I am having an issue killing an enemy.
It's been on its got 300 + hr logged on it
well if it was working fine before then i could be a network issue it seems this issue is particular to your set up so your going to have to figure it out on your own if you have no logs to see what going on
Might have to reinstal in the server
yeah that what would do first
Is anyone else having a problem killing the fire spitter next to the coal node in the rocky desert near the northern forest?
anyone having issues running servers recently, past few days, getting a lot of crashes
Trains are working perfectly on my server for what that's worth
nope running fine here
Is it better to use a dedicated server? will it fix the multiplayer lag?
Okay, you have already answer that question, that's sure... But, how can i launch a dedicated serv by epic ?
thats a slightly complicated question.
if your PC is having a hard time running satisfactory in the first place or you cant be on 24/7 to host for your friends then yes
for the second part again that depends on what you were running on in the first place, but as long as you dont try to run the dedicated server on a 10 year old potato generally the tickrate is better on dedicated
For me I ran one so any of my friends could get on at anytime AND i had some decent hardware i could host it on
My hardware is fine is just once we get so far into the game with trains and stuff everything just breaks. I was thinking more along the lines of paying a hosting company for a dedicated server to always be up and probably have better hardware
Why not just use SteamCMD is the same thing… and if you REALLY want to use epic then you going to have to Google that your self bud because been here a while a everyone who uses epic always has trouble installing the right version so either look up ur self on how to do it.. or use steamcmd if you want some help
i don't want buy a second satisfactory just for that...
Can anyone help me figure out why my server crashes after awhile, this only started after the update today
what
SteamCMD you sign in anonymously
A server will offload the majority of the backend load. The stuff that keeps the game ticking, managing the database of where stuff is placed, shit foliage you have removed, where every single item is in every container, on every belt, and laying on the ground. You know the stutter/pause during the autosave? You shouldn't see that at all on the server in most cases.
What's left is the graphical load, which should be honestly the majority of the heavy lifting, especially when you try to walk through a really large factory. There's a lot to render there.
Will a dedicated server help your performance in general? Almost definitely. Will it help the specific problem you mentioned? Maybe. It could be that your computer just isn't sure what to do with all of these limes and offloading the backend will do the trick. But maybe it's more graphics load. You can do some more digging on your own to see where the bottleneck is for you. If it's on disk a server will definitely help. If it's CPU a server MIGHT help. If it's GPU it's probably not going to help.
Thank you!
Honestly if you have any alternate computer at all sitting around gathering dust (or in mild use) it's pretty easy to get a server set up. Follow a tutorial, get it running, copy your save over and load it up.
See how it works for you. If it still chugs maybe plan on a new save with U6 focused on more distributed manufacturing rather than a large central base
(my apologies if you're doing that already, I'm assuming you have an imkibitz style megabase)
Someone got into my dedicated server and deleted all the saves and spammed a bunch of empty saves. Where are the logs so I can see what steam id did this? Is it also possible to hand out a game ban to the steam id responsible?
"2. Resource Well Satellite Nodes have a few different issues on Dedicated Servers, from not working at all, the extractors not working or them working but producing Nuclear Waste instead of the correct resource and Clients not being able to interact with them.
From version 194290 you should be able to dismantle and rebuild the Pressurizers and Extractors on a Resource Well and Satellite Nodes, this is a potential workaround for this issue while we work on a proper fix for this."
lmao
Are there any backups or places that saves are stored elsewhere on Linux? Had a dude delete all of the saves through exploiting the admin panel
Not a bug with the water extractor - it's doing a bang-up job. That's a bug with the ground. ;P
Unless it was specifically set up for you - no.
found a vanilla backups folder actually
not using the 3rd party docker container or anything, it was created just from the vanilla steamapps server
LOL you dont need to buy another copy of satisfactory lol the dedicated server dont care where you got the game you can still join it...
oh okay, got it thx
From the logs it seems like your server is running and it just stop because of a critical error like if server crashes from some hardware error
how to fix it
Update the server the exact same way you installed it.
i tried but it doesn't work
in update file steamcmd +login anonymous +force_install_dir SatisfactoryDedicatedServer +app_update 1690800 -beta experimental +quit
steam cmd
So steamcmd. What version of the server do you currently have?
From what I can see, the update went live 6 hours ago.
Hmm. Incidentally, my u6 has segfaulted. Interesting...
Using the same command you installed it with. There are no other methods.
Also, +force_install_dir WHATEVER goes before +login.
If it doesn't work, wait.
Steam has a whole content delivery network, it may take a while to update all repositories.
I personally keep running the update command until it just verifies.
(I use validate)
the CDN updates within minutes, if you are not seeing an update from a day ago, its usually a bad command installing it into a different folder
That's also possible, yeah. Though historically, Steam has had issues with updates not propagating.
Not sure if it's the CDN not propagating, or some queueing issues, but I've had to wait for several hours for an update to register before.
I just ran the update command, and it updated. Try again.
Make sure your +force_install_dir actually reflects the install dir for your Satisfactory server, and that it happens before you login
and try again.
what to keep in mind that +force_install_dir is relative to from where steamcmd lives, not from your current directory, so you are typically better off using an absolute path
Hm, I've learned to use absolute paths anyway, so yeah.
Also, it's starting to look like Satisfactory will go the way of ARK, using more and more disk space for its updates... >_<
(right now, if you want to update ARK, you better have something like 50 GB of free space...)
Does the Dedicated server prefer drives with fast sequential reads, seq writes, random reads, or random writes?
im shopping with a decent budget and want to get the best drive for the job
Dedi is mostly about ram speed because once is get loaded from the HDD/SSD/NVME into the ram storage speed doesnt matter anymore
so no gain on a high speed? and even if slight would a higher random or seq help the servers perf?
even for large saves @loud minnow ?
yeah even for larger saves as long you have it on a SSD youre fine
also i would assume if its doing constant calcs on behalf of clients, wouldn't you still see gains on a faster drive?
no because is all in loaded in the RAM
why would every single game function be loaded in ram? especially considering the min is 8 gigs
wouldn't that mean it balances between in ram and out of ram
Always get a disk with high random reads and/or writes. Sequential speed is nearly always faster than random.
As far as I can tell, RAM speed doesn't really matter for the server, except when it comes to saving the game - in which case I'm not sure a tick up or down will help matters any, really.
Single-thread CPU performance is where it's at, here and for other dedicated servers.
Well I'm considering a p4500 since they are dirt cheap locally
And have great random reads, horrible random writes
and for update 6 is more than 8GB for sure lol
Assumed that would be the best choice for the job
What's a P4500 in terms of storage?
But what is it? All I can find is an Intel Celeron P4500.
(and SAN storage, but I doubt it's what you want)
i think he is talking about this Intel SSD DC P4500
p4500's are expensive in comparison
i meant the 3500 since the random reads are better and its still dirt cheap..
Ah, an NVMe.
a 980 pro is faster than that for a cheaper price lol
yeah, cheap intel u.2 drive.
Let me put it this way: I run my game from a magnetic, spinning HDD @ 5400 RPM, and it runs fine.
Absolutely no stutters with anything.
or it does :copium:
lol like i said HDD or the FASTEST NVME in the world it wont matter lol
🤷 still feel like some of it could matter
It doesn't.
Why?
i think you need to do some research my friend
because you have a constant data flow, if both were either slow or full you would see slowdowns
What makes you assume the data flow is big?
it isn't, at least from what i understand, its smaller random data flows
To be fair, other games using this tech (like ARK or Conan) can have slowdowns as stuff is loaded in. However, that only really comes into play with mods.
which is why i assumed a p3500 would be good
And loads and loads of roaming creatures.
This game? Fairly frugal with its resources, as-is.
well we can have loads and loads of factory items
We can, but they're all the same factory items.
my friends two thousand hour save literally brought my drive to its knees
and items on belts
As far as I can tell, the limit on belt items is CPU speed as well.
How much RAM?
128 gigs
Because that sounds like loads of swapping.
Hm, that might be a CPU issue still. The E5s aren't young by any stretch.
true, but i mean i would be seeing the gamethread max out a core if it was a limit there
the ram usage isn't 100% maxed, but the ram that is being used is being maxed in iops
I had similar issues with my FX-8350 (similar age, too). 14fps in Fo4, but the CPU was around 65-70%.
no issues here with a 3950X 😉 lol
its only a problem from the save files items.. 2000 hours is a little insane.
Don't go comparing current-gen with a 10yo CPU. xD
LOL
but i guess i could go do some comparison with drives.
i could be the one to do it, haha
i need p3500 for some misc stuff i want to mess with anyways.
At any rate, I went with a generic NVMe attached via PCIe 2.0, and have no issues.
Just bought what was cheapest - which, at the time, was a Kingston SA2000.
true, and i will say for my usecase i think the p3500 IS the cheapest haha
im paying 15$ for 400gigs of nvme
I needed space more than speed, really.
Again, ARK. That by itself takes up something like 500 GB.
absolutely, but my dedi will just run all of the gameservers..
i plan to upgrade soon to dual 2697v2's
a little dated, but its a under 100$ upgrade, so it'l work
Yeah, I'm currently sitting on an i7-4770.
Sadly, that's EoL. No upgrade options apart from a k variant, which is quite a bit pricy for maybe a 5% speed increase.
(some $170 on my end)
ive got EOL hardware, mine happens to be some xeon phis i have in a huge stack
In the end, if I have to drop serious dough on the upgrade (and anything upwards of $150 is serious cash for me), I'd rather just get a new platform.
I mean, there's no future for DDR3 anyway, and 32 GB is the max I can do on consumer-grade.
And I'm not about to drop serious money (like 2-3x what I'd pay for a decent contemporary setup) just to brag about 16-gig RAM sticks. :D
if you're in the US i can sell you my v3 workstation
throw in a 2667v3 and got a good upgrade
About as far from the US as I could be.
Last time I checked, the was an iron curtain between us.
:D
😄 well im in texas, and i can literally drive 5 minutes away and buy a dual socket ivy-e server with cpus and ram for like 50$
Good for you! :D
I, on the other hand, am not sweltered constantly by 40°C heat.
It all works out, in the end. :D
its all fair haha
but honestly, thats the only reason im still messing about with outdated server hardware
like its just more money in the bank if i just wait
im still rocking a 1070ti
i don't upgrade to upgrade, i don't get people who do that
my hardware gets enjoyed until it dies
i also love saving ewaste type hardware..
let me get a picture of my phis
i had alot of fun setting them up like that..
heheh
But ey, Xeons are still kinda fine for serious workloads.
Especially parallelised stuff.
they are very much fine. my 2643 handled that 2000 hour save better than i expected
those phis too, each card is 60 cores at.. 1.053ghz
As long as you have a platform that can actually use them, I guess.
yeah.. ive setup 8 before in one setup but man it was unstable
2400 watts of power, had to split it up between two breakers
Wanted a TRx4 setup at some point, but the prices are insane on that. At least from the consumer side, because for a company? Quite decent, actually.
Not about to drop $3000 on that, nope. :D
Damn.
Still, you have to kinda have a spare $1500 for that, don'tcha.
Which I don't.
:D
well, the resell on those was literally infinite
this was before those released
like 5000 for the cpu alone
technically isn't 5995wx still not released?
what are you even going to do with all those phi anyways arent they use for specialize workloads or something like that
well, yes but me and my community are coding more software for them
and its getting done slowly but surely
Now that is respectable.
we are building the codebase intel never did
my dedi was made from left over parts from upgrading my main rig that is why is mostly new hardware 3950x, 64GB 3466ddr4 and just a regular 1TB EVO SSD
ohh i see that pretty cool still
i also got the world record in GpuPI for CPU 100m beating out quad xeon 8280's so they have some promise
i've seen some videos of those phi and looks pretty cool to mess around with but it seems is mostly enterprises things
depends on gens. if you're interested i can invite you over to my community if you throw me a dm. but they are great.. linus represented them poorly, though
yeah was just wondering.... that pretty awesome man
i dont really mess with old hardware but i still like buying hardware and get to mess around with it
niceeee
Nice. I can find them locally for $250 minimum.
Would take one for $5+S/H (which would probably be $50 on its own) for a friend. :D He likes to tinker with stuff, would probably interest him.
@blazing halo if your seriously interested i'd ship more than one to you so you could resell at a huge profit, im planning to do that with a couple foreign friends
I would be, if you've no other use for them. I hate the idea of capable hardware just gathering dust.
I'm a little late to the party but I think RJ was having a CPU bottleneck.
Even though task manager was saying no core was maxed the 2643 v0's are just to old.
I suppose it also could have been the HDD, IF the HDD was being accessed by a bunch of other things at the same time.
My server was a virtual machine, half a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, 32gb RAM, ASRock Rack X470D4U mobo, and the virtual disk on a 500GB Samsung SATA SSD
We started having tickrate issues when we were in the final stage of the space elevator
@lunar nymph in normal use I don't seem to have tickrate issues, but I did have misc issues when I loaded my friends 2000 hour solo save
Could have been weird stuff
Like I think if vehicles fall off the map they never despawn?
So a bunch of those would cause issues
True, but I really did want to know what drive is theoretically optimal
High sequential, or better randoms
IMO for any dedicated it would be random and IOPS
Personally I plan on putting a half decent 500gb nvme SSD in my server at some point
But I run a framework (AMP) where I run several different servers at the same time.
All being accessed by different people doing tons of random things
I would probably run a good HDD for something like backups
yeah, that was kinda what im looking at, a bunch of random read iops
@lunar nymph im probably upgrading to 2697v2's shortly, and just keeping that as my all dedi server server
and a p3500 should be more than enough to do that
we had tickrate issues by using too much drones in multiplayer but u6 seems to fixed a lot tickrate issues
That's ivy bridge if I recall
We had probably 20-30 drones
Just remember cheap ssds usually don't have a DRAM cache, and it some situations they can actually be slower than an HDD
@lunar nymph p3500 does have a DRAM cache, its an intel u.2 enterprise drive
However since it's Intel you should be fine
thats the only reason im considering it, for 15$ i get 400 gigs and a rated 420k 4k iops on reads
Ahh if it has one
shit writes, but as a dedi server box, writes don't particularly matter
ive got both adapters and i think my board has support natively
thats not the big deal really
and yeah my chips in the plan are ivy-e
im currently rocking sandy-e
and need a bit of an up for all my dedis
i think 2 12 core procs will be more than enough to mess with all my servers at once
It would require a mobo but I would look into Haswell/Broadwell
i daily haswell-e
but ive already got a dual socket sandy/ivy-e server
its currently what the dedi is on, just gotta swap in some chips
ivy-e is cheaper than lunch in my area
ex, i could buy a dual socket ivy-e server with procs ram and psu's for 50$ cash out the door no tax
It might be possible it's a dual socket issue
it totally might be, but im not worried about the perf right now
just wanted to know optimal ssd
One CPU trying access data in the other ones RAM for example
considering its a 2643 dual socket setup, it runs damn well right now
thats what NUMA is for
You're going to be paying power through the nose though
also a texas advantage
my power is dirt cheap
i pay like 5c/kwh?
ish
its up right now because of the energy crysis and summer
dual 2667's
dope!
i was considering 2667's but i really do want this server workin its ass off on multithreaded stuff down the line
so im probably going to get some 97's
nice! im currently running a dual socket sandy-e workstation as my server
single socket haswell-e daily
a HP z620, is the dual socket server
im dailying a lenovo p500
I moved my dedicated servers to a Haswell based system a little over a month ago
i need to (kinda bad) but the ivy-e prices are just so insanely cheap its really hard to up to something over 5-10 times as expensive
I was having crashing issues with the VM Hypervisor on the Ryzen system
when hardware surrounding that can be better since you saved that much
considering doing around a terrabyte of ram on ivy-e because i have some beggar friends with non hedt trying to run deep learning stuff and need more ram
I know you're set on it, but IMO you would be better served (pun intended) with a single socket 2697v3 or v4
V4 might be a tad expensive
well.. sure?
but im under 200$ for a terrabyte of ecc ddr3 and dual 2697v3's
i physically just cannot get a 2697v3/v4 at that price
Pretty sure you can get the processor for $200
but then i still have to find a base system. and ram
Can't remember if it's ddr3 or 4
4 unless you get some weird outlier boards
But, I am over 350-400 with all costs added up, I get less ram at that
I have like 200 gigs already so that's also a boon to ddr3
I can run ALOT of dedicated servers on 64gb just saying
True, but I'm loaning out that excess ram to friends who do deep learning stuff
Actually my Haswell system only has 16GB
They have a lot of databases that are slower on their brand new hardware due to not having enough ram
Which has actually become a bit of a problem ...
But yeah, I'd absolutely go v3/v4 if it was cheap enough
And I might actually be going ice lake 3647 if my friend in china can get me his hookup
I've been wanting something on the 1150 platform
But, the ice lake setup would be running me around 300 for dual socket 18c
God bless Chinese es chips
But I'm probably going to end up using my old gaming system as a new dedicated server rig when I upgrade
That's the plan here, but I haven't updated in like 4-5 years and don't see any reason to
Actually the Haswell system it's running on now was my old gaming system
I generally upgrade every 3-4 generations
Running a 8700k de-lidded with liquid metal at 5.0GHz
32GB RAM
250GB Samsung 970evo SSD
That should make a pretty beast dedicated server
Nicee I gave away my old gaming to one of my friend which he still turns which was a 3770k de-lidded also running at4.8ghz at like 65c lol with my old gtx 1080 with 32gb dominator 1866 ram kit and he still plays games on it
Here is the current dedicated server
But this is my current dedi posted here before nothing big but get the job done lol
Also rocking dual GPU's I see
Yeah right now is dual p100-106
Jealous, all I could find cheap were p106-90's
Yeah the 90 don’t have enough ram for ETH mining for me
Which is how I got them so cheap
Luckily folding doesn't require much VRAM
Hi,
I'm currently troubleshooting a problem with the newest experimental build on a hosted service provider. They installed the latest steam dedicated server version for the experimental branch. The console log shows the Build "++FactoryGame+dev-experimental-CL-188609". But when I try to connect to that server with my experimental client, it tells me there's a mismatch because my client is on Version 194714 instead of 188609.
I can replicate the problem by installing the steam expermintal dedicated server.
BUT when I download the experimental dedicated server from Epic Games, I dont have this problem. Is there anyone experiencing the same problem?
I don't even think 188609 is the current EA version
Use steamcmd to install the dedicated server
Also I'm pretty sure you can't target a specific version at all
I got a third 100 but I has damaged on of if the traces I got it for like 30 bucks online as non working but I might be able to fix it one day if not using for parts lol
You can see it there
I think we are getting a little off topic here
Lol my bad hahaha
This channel is for dedicated server help after all
Alright back to sever
Help
I guess once you get nerds talking about hardware it kinda hard to stop hahahahaha
Tangent
Damn that board looks fine.
DAMN. Where do I get deals like yours? :D
eBay
I think it came with slower CPU's
I bought the 2667's later
Can't remember exactly
I think I got 64gb of RAM for $70-80 and started using it for Folding
Both CPU's and 3 GPU's ran at 100% for 8 or 10 months straight
I have a picture of the setup but again going off topic
Is it safe to rent a dedi server for experimental at the moment or are there problems?
its very wonky
Hey I've got a problem with my server, so last night I downloaded the normal experimental game update but when I try updating my server to the latest experimental it always not get's the update that my normal game client is on
Ok looks like I fixed it myself by using "app_update 1690800 -experimental experimental" instead of just "-beta experimental"
@sleek tangle
Where did you put those commands?
In SteamCmd
are u on windows?
Yes
Hello, I have a problem with my server, I'm trying to install mods and from what I'm seeing in a redit post and some videos it can be done, but when the server starts it closes automatically, if you want I can leave you the log that indicates the error, I have tried to find a solution, but I can't find it, I've been like this for several days and I don't know what to do anymore.
Message dialog closed, result: Ok, title: Message, text: Plugin 'EfficiencyCheckerMod' failed to load because module 'EfficiencyCheckerMod' could not be found. Please ensure the plugin is properly installed, otherwise consider disabling the plugin for this project.
Probably download the mod that is missing?
This is the error message, if I remove the mod I get the mime with another and so on until I remove them all.
If so, I don't know which one I would need to make it work.
Sounds like it isn’t possible the
If you want, I'll pass the log that indicates everything so you can see it, I don't know if it's allowed to pass it on or not, that's why I'm asking.
I’m not really sure. Maybe someone else can help
If so, I would greatly appreciate it, I have been looking for ways to solve it for several days.
Anyway, thank you very much for helping me.😅 😅 😅
By the way my English is not very good and I'm using google translator, I say it in case something incoherent comes out.😂 😂😂😂
is there any known server crash causes when savegame gets big (180++ hours) ?
Probably not
Ran out of memory allocating 1299058688 bytes with alignment 4096
is there a limit?
i have 8gb so idk are there any settings?
You’d probably need to get more RAM
8gb should be ok?
im using 10-12 on avarage
Nah. If you only have 8, add some swap space, otherwise upgrade to like 16 or 32
Swap Space?
Linux = swap space. Usually dedicated servers are linux
update 6 is using around 9.2GB for a 200h+ game running 24/7 new save is around 8.2GB of RAM usage for update 6
im using about 11 atm
are you on linux or windows?
linux
ahhh i see
im on windows so that is why my is around 9.2Gb never seen it pas 9.5GB and we have a big save now.. but i've seen a lot of linux user report usage past 10GB of RAM
for update 6
i wanna host a server for my friends whom can play anyone anytime without waiting for a player, reason- we friends streamers on youtube, and wanna stream on youtube of satisfactory, we are multiplayer on my world and we enjoyed a lot, and now i am discovering about private server, if someone can help me i will be very much thankful to you.
Dedicated servers are here in Update 5! Discuss away! Wiki for more info: https://satisfactory.fandom.com/wiki/Dedicated_servers
My buddy and I have had a lot of visual bugs associated with conveyer belts on our experimental dedicated server. We also have issues with removal of bushes and trees.
Typically a reboot fixes the bush and tree removal.
Thanks
if i run a server on my own computer that i play on, would that be "better" than hosting a private game for me and a friend ?
preformancewise
Worse
no matter my specs?
Oh you mean hosting it on your own machine
That I am not sure of
I would guess about the same.
im now hosting a "private" session, im wondering if hosting a dedicated would be better
Dedicated is nice because everything keeps running even when you are not playing. That way your factories keep working and your friends can join,
Again though, it will take up a lot of CPU
and might be worse
i mean, i am using about 20-25% on my 5950 at playing this game
as long as you have the ram i have a 5950x and 128gb and i ran the game and the dedicated server on the same machine and it was fine.... because it wont need any GPU to run the dedi just cpu and ram.. but you just have to have the dedi running in the background
i don't have 128gb ram tho xD
only 32
i've had 2 providers now .. and they both keep crashing when im playing
and they can't give me an answer why
i think you will be fine.. the dedi will likely use around 10Gb let say and the game another 8GB at the most so it should be fine
I would just try out both and see for yourself, mileage will vary depending on your machine.
is it hard setting up ?
im running my dedi fine on a separate machine with a 3950x and 64gb dominator ram kit and that runs non stop 24/7 so far 250hour + on that save
thats why im wondering why the servers im using (paying for) wont work ... crashed 5 times today
i say just try hosting on your machine and see if it works out and if it does than cancel your sub with them
if not then try something else
i think i paid 40 buks for the last one now xD and still crashes
yeah personally i preferer to own my own hardware and do it myself and all you paying is just to rent a computer pretty much... of course depends on your situation not everyone has an extra pc laying around
is it hard setting up a server? i have no knowledge about that
really i though you said you had one running and it was using around 11GB atm
yes that i am renting
ohhh so you didnt set it up then???? they set it up for you and you just playing on it i get it
i ordered it and it was setup
i joined the ip and started playing and yesterday .. 4-5 crashes, they changed my node (whatever that means ) and it crashed 4-5 times today aswell ..
when i contacted online support they just told me to put up a ticket, and that can take what? 8 hours until they answer?
well is pretty simple to set up really you just need to read this https://satisfactory.fandom.com/wiki/Dedicated_servers and on windows just use SteamCMD to install it
and if you cant do it i can host a save for you i live in southern cali so let me know and i can give you ftp access to your save if you want i dont mind and i wont charge you lol
lol, i think california would be a bit to far away tho ? xD but i appreciate that alot !
i live in norway
yeah i figure i lot of people here are like from the Uk lol
or Europe is mostly what i see people are from and now norway lol
but earlier someone from Texas was one here so you do see one or two from the US lol
i'm gonna give them an extra chance to fix the issue if not im refunding the server .. and trying to make my own
yeah go for it... i mean you can try to run one right now just to see how it runs on your pc but with 32 you should be fine... and just upload your current save using the in-game server manager
i would need to open ports right ?
yeah
yea... that would be an issue cause we have a shitty provider that doenst even wanna give me the pasword to the modem
ohhh i see yeah you would need access to the router at least to be able to open the ports
Has anyone had a similar error when trying to join a server?
It was working fine before and nothing was changed either on the server nor the client.
With the same account, I logged in at the office and got into the server.
I have tried to restart my router, reinstall the game, go to the main branch and then back to experimental branch, restart steam, restart the server, compare client and server build IDs, try with Epic Launcher opened and closed.
These are the server logs: https://pastebin.com/f47ATsBw
no i havent cant really tell anything from the logs really except that it says [2022.07.07-19.53.13:706][517]LogOnlineSession: Warning: OSS: EOS-OSS: No game present to leave for session (GameSession) but thats pretty much it and you trying to log into it from above
did you open port 7777, 15000 and 15777?
On the server machine? Other clients can connect, they're playing now 😃
And I just tested on my Steam deck on the same network, got in.
Just this machine for some reason 😦
Have you tried force-disabling IPv6 on the server?
For some reason it's doing internal routing via ::ffff:127.0.0.1. That particular OS might actually support IPv6 properly, and if the server doesn't - that would do it.
(or it might not support IPv6 properly, which would also do it)
Check in your logs if the other players have the same entries when logging in (being routed via that address). If they don't, that's your culprit.
You might also try forcing IPv6 exclusively, I suppose? Theoretically? It all has to do with -multihome= being set to an IPv4 or IPv6 address.
@severe nimbus
Thanks! Will try 🙏 🤝 @blazing halo
Let us know if it fixed it, ok?
I'm curious myself if it will affect the issue, and how.
Also, have you tried to temporarily disable the local firewall? On the machine you're having trouble with, as in.
If it helps - you probably have a rule you need to kill, or restrict.
That's easily testable, however. Shut the server down, and start a basic server on each of the ports (like, a small HTTP server, or even netcat). See if you can reach all three. It should give you an idea on whether you're being blocked on outgoing, for some reason.
(I mention a HTTP server, because it'd probably be easiest to test - most of 'em come with some sort of a "default" page you can read, and your client program is the browser)
(there are simple HTTP servers that live as a single executable too)
This happened in the console and then it restarted the server
at the top, when that error appeared in console, I mined sulfur for the first time
and the game continued like nothing happened for another 30 seconds
then I couldn't pick up anything and was kicked out
and it is rebooting
oh and @young sinew is with me*
Hello @blazing halo , I am with @snow sandal and we did not abort it.
We are running on Ubuntu Server 22.04 via steamCMD. Our satisfactory server runs via systemd so we did not abort the terminal window
yeah I had left the terminal myself, but hang on I found something interesting

It seems this happens and the server either crashes or just plain old reboots itself.
This is happening after the most recent experimental update released yesterday
Hm... that would indicate an incomplete game copy, I'd say.
hmmm
Or, a bug in the server itself.
Do you think that could have happened during an update?
The second you can't do anything about, so try shutting the server down and updating the hell out of it.
I can revert because I take daily snapshots
Like, running the update script until all it does is validate (if using validate).
I gotcha
let me run it manually because right now it does a preexecstart and tries to update the game
Something I picked up admining ARK, because sometimes an update wouldn't fully download, for some reason.
interesting, give me just a second I really appreciate it
when I turn on the server via systemd it tries to update but let me update manually
It's also why I don't auto-update like this, via preexec or otherwise. I have it in my mind that an update could go wrong, and I probably want to be there when it happens.
I mean, steamcmd tends to tell you when an update gets botched... but I don't know.
Having a perfect backup system is all fine, but people have this tendency to not use it right before a critical failure occurs. I don't know why; I do that myself.
I do it often...
"Oh I probably won't need to rollback this... it's a simple {whatever change}, it'll be fine."
... and it crashes badly. :D
Rule #1 - you always forget (or otherwise disregard) a backup the one time it would've mattered.
No fkn exceptions.
Well I wouldn't normally run an experimental build but my dear friend @snow sandal wanted it.... hahaha. Once I get this updated manually and test I will let everyone know on here of the results so if anyone else runs across this maybe I can have a solution
@blazing halo I really appreciate the help!
Here's hoping it helps.
But otherwise... if that doesn't, then it's likely a bug in the server.
I suspect it is a little bit of both, but I am on experimental so I can't complain 🤗
You'd be surprised how many people do.
Even on EA, (i.e. stable). I mean - it's an early-access game, of course it's not finished.
I mean if you are going to play with fire, expect to be burned..... hahahaha
(and if we're being honest, Unreal Engine doesn't have a stellar track record, especially when taxed by stuff like mods)
(though I suspect it's highly dependent on how much the original devs abuse it to make it do backflips...)
It seems like it is a specific place on the map
Because a trend in the problem so far is that every time I go to the gorge in the northern forest it causes the issue
So I’m gonna try not going there and see if it fixes it
Ruled that out
went in an opposite direction and it still had the issue
another common trend is I have killed a fire spitter every time it crashes
pretty close to the crash too
RIP server
Not sure what's caused this memory allocation issue, it shouldn't be running out...
how much ram does the server have??
Currently 32GB
well also depends what other things running in the background but for update 6 you need at least 9Gb free for the server to be able to start up
Will do. Can try tomorrow.
uhh, we gave the server 6 GB ram for update six and it worked like a charm
til we are having this unrelated issue
yeah update 6 needs about 25 percent more ram
so you will need to give it around 10-12GB for it to run fine
we have it on 10 rn
I've pretty much narrowed it down to killing firespitters
in specific areas
like I've got it to happen when killing a firespitter next to a slug
so weird man
I kill firespitter not next to a slug, no problem
@loud minnow We are running it on a Ubuntu server 22.04 Virtual Machine using Proxmox VE for our host. I have allocated 4 cores, and 10GB of RAM. So about 2GB for OS and 8GB for Satisfactory.
What do you suggest for core allocation and RAM?
And I am asking because running this in a VE can make those requirements a little different.
I would say 10 GB for Satisfactory, and anywhere upwards of 256 MB for the OS.
I give my OS more RAM because I have other processes running for backups, antivirus, etc…
So cores, do you think 2 cores is enough for max player of two
Hm, no clue. I don't really know, and the Wiki doesn't say. The game client requires 4 cores, apparently.
All it says for the server is that it fancies single-core performance over the number of available cores. You could try running it with 1... :D
Hahaha okay sounds good. I was just getting some input. I haven’t hosted many satisfactory servers. So just getting some guidance 👍
I wasn't trying to be an asshole or anything (... and wow does that tell you something about me when I remark that that's new...). No need to get defensive. I honestly don't know if you can run it with just 1 core. And I think it's great that you're asking for input and guidance.
Wasn’t taken that way at all! I really appreciate the feedback!
Oh. Okay. :D
damn, game really does crash if you kill a plasma spitter or whatever they're called.
hilariously, this crash didnt exist for me prior to 0.6.0.7
whoops wrong channel
Can i run a dedicated server on experimental update 6?
yes
Hey guys! I have a server, running in Windows (Server 2022) and it keeps crashing, I think due to RAM. In Event Viewer Application Logs I see it's often out of memory on he game. However, the VM it's in currently has 12GB of RAM allocated, but there is a lot of available memory, but Satisfactory is not using it.
Can I increase the maximum memory allocation for the dedicated server?
For example right now I have over 3GB of available RAM, but constantly see the message in event viewer, and the server process is only using ~7700MB.
Is there a way to get this automated truck to stop pushing some sort of skeletal version of itself? It's slowing down its route.
I am running in Windows, but it's using more memory for sure. But worse, it's also no seemingly willing to use over about 7700MB, even though the VM it's running in has at least 3GB more available.
There are some spitters here at the north end of the desert that cause a server crash when killed. Anyone experience that before or know a work around besides ignoring them?
Edit: Nevermind, I see it's a common crash among spitters everywhere.
@blazing halo That didn't help. But we fixed it. There was some kind of a memory leak or something. So we restarted the server machine. We'll see if it builds up again. But the server ran out of memory, was taking 10GB of RAM already.
Though the machine has 64GB of RAM, it doesn't utilize more for some reason.
I like to run my Windows Server 2019 and up with a minimum of 4GB of RAM. I know that the minimum requirements is 2GB but for any extra processes you have on that machine I think it is wise to do 4GB base. Specially if you are running the Desktop Experience version.
I say this because as mentioned before if the server wants 10GB and more, then you would want to allocate at least 14GB for a Windows Server instance. Resulting in 4GB for OS and 10GB for Satisfactory.
I have 12GB allocated, the game is using 7700MB, but complaining about no memory, but there is still 3GB available though.
My server is having this issue currently as well. I believe it to be an "experimental" thing.
@hexed sky Yeah I read that as well.... but the problem is the reporting you are using for that. What program are you using to report those numbers?
hwinfo64
and also task manager reports 3gb available
there is even nearly 2gb completely free
hmmmm, do you happen to have a snapshot of the event viewer log?
