- Server hosting is not free hardware, you need to use your own pc to host it.
- dedicated server hosting exists, but you're looking at 20-30usd a month
- Steam does not host it
- You need a decent system to host it

thats a super common bug... in my experience once you blow them up you can clip right through them
but yeah there might be a better way, I just haven't needed to worry about it

Yeh, I could clip through them too. I just ended up loading the save in singleplayer, rocks were magically gone, placed the miner, saved, and loaded back up in MP no problem. Thx tho.

I don't thiink either of the other guys playing are routing their connections through Tor, but I am still waiting on a reply from them. There was a good 30-50 of the errors in a row

Those aren't Tor nodes as far as I can tell; they're just IPv4 connections coming through an IPv6 interface
also that's not your server connecting to anything, those are inbound connection requests from a client
throwing the ip in a browser brings you to a generic template-looking explanation of Tor, saying it's a tor exit router
the port at least corresponds to Epic's launcher
it may be that the person at that address is also running a Tor node.. I'd be rather surprised if someone was trying to route game traffic through Tor. It might "work" but performance would be awful

This is a more linux-based/networking question, I suppose, but is there a way to whitelist IPs for accessing a specific computer? The server computer acts solely as the satisfactory computer atm, so I don't exactly need it too open.
Setup a firewall and only allow whatever IPs steam uses to update and the IPs of your friends. if it’s on linux i believe there’s a FOSS app for it. if not the distro probably has a cli tool

They are. I wrote a Reddit post about log in attempts to public SSH ports (PW prot). IIRC (my own post) I had like 100k root password attempts in a few weeks on a public facing SSH port. I use whitelisted SSH port (PKA) access now via iptables not a concern anymore but it is interesting.

Fyi, I wouldn't be too concerned about people port scanning it literally happens all the time. Provided your distro is up to date and you take good security practices that's all you can do.
It's gonna happen, you can't prevent it when you have public facing services
Checking your IP on shodan.io is always a good idea to see if they detect anything in particular.

Always use public key authentication on users and disable the ability to SSH to root.
Should be no concern.
Also buying a dedi/hosted server can move the risk (if any) from localhosting which I'd recommend just as a general rule for hosting, since it's likely a lot more reliable than localhosting :)

if you used -beta experimental in your steamcmd it will be experimental

you will likely need to open your software firewall for the 3 ports and also do some port forwarding on your router before it will work

ports are correct, make sure you are using UDP and you point it to the correct internal IP of your server
the servers IP is mine correct
you most likely have two different IPs that you need to know. One is the ip address attached to the pc running the server and the other ip is the one you need to give out to people for them to connect to the server
the internal IP of the server is what you put into the port forward rules
the external IP of your home internet is what you give to people to connect
so id start it with the serverStart.bat
how to find the server ip?
go to the search bar type cmd then in command prompt type
ipconfig
if it is running windows you can open up a cmd promt and type ipconfig and it will spit out the lan IP

typically you just browse to that folder with cmd and run it with .\FactoryServer.exe -log -unattended

so once you get that IP and you shove it into your router 3 times for the ports then you should be able to do something like type what is my ip into google and get your internet ip to hand out to people you want to connect

That's where I looked first. I mean the server itself also doesn't have an option to download the save files. Only uploading is integrated. I got the save files manually from the dedicated server. Even after using a random uid for the folder name, the save files are not being recognized. I am wondering if it's even possible to load them client-side once they have been on the server.

I thought the folder uid was a dynamically generated uid for the game session but it's the player uid for my epic games account. Probably in case people play the game with multiple accounts on the same device to separate the save games. I just have to move them in the same folder.

i wonder if i uninstalled satisfactory and the game folders from my "server pc" then the issue would resolve itself and itd have to make a server save folder
maybe...I know there are a bunch of people running the client and server on the same machine and I havent ever seen them have an issue where the server folder was missing

^^Yeah, likely depends on how your network is set up, but I would expect that to be the case. Keep in mind that sometimes firewalls run on the host system (Windows, Linux), so port forwarding depends on what you've got going on 🙂

So I'm having some trouble setting up a dedicated server. I've followed the steps for using SteamCMD and I have ports 15777, 15000 & 7777 forwarded on both my firewall and my router but every time I start the server I get a NAT Detection failed, unable to resolve host message and when I check the server in game it says "This server appears to be offline."

Can not bind errors mean you have something using that port
a lot of the time its actually the server is running twice
so kill all instances
make sure you only are running a single instance
These are all UDP ports, some people have gotten that confused as well so if after you kill processes and verify that there is only one instance running you may want to verify that you selected UDP and not TCP
I've checked, all my forwarded ports are UDP and I've tried killing all the processes that look like they're related to me (Low-Mid tech knowledge) and restarting the host PC and running it fresh. Still not working. Also tried changing the port to 15800 using the directions on the Wiki and still no luck
check server manager it should show on lan/localhost

so you should be able to stick in the external IP of your work into the server manager and have it "just work" if the ports are all forwarded properly

on the server you can run netstat and make sure you see the expected ports open
So I see the ports on the list when I run netstat -a but they have *:* after them and are only listed on 0.0.0.0 not on 192.168.1.2
0.0.0.0 is networking keyword for EVERYTHING
so if your computer had 10 different IP addresses
it would be listening on all of them
and have no info in the "State" column
the key here is that you do see all 3 ports listed

in the router that it is connected to does the external IP that it has match what google says if you search "what is my ip"?

Yeah, the Router lists the same Public IPv4 Address as is shown on ipchicken
in the game client you didnt change anything with the port number when you added the public IP did you?
I changed the port number to 15800 because when starting the server I added the line to change the port to 15800

Hi! Is it possible to configure a text message to be displayed to anyone who connects? Like na MotD of sorts? I'd like to be able to inform players when the server was started and what the autosave interval is, because on big save files saving causes hicups until it's done.

wild meaning - I come back in frozen, wait for a while, then randomly I land on the ground and die. That kind of thing
(on a dedicated server. Literally equipping blade runners before logout seems to really help. Haven't tried jetpacks as it is tricky to log out in midair with a jetpack)

it seems to be aggressively getting you connected so where you can see things, but not quite interact, and due to this disconnect between the unresponsive ui and the game getting set up, it warps you down

Hello to everyone! i'm facing a problem when connecting to my dedicated server via server management, i can't invite friends because the game tells me that the game is in private session mode. I tried to switch to friends only mode, but the game does not accept the setting. I tried to do the save transfer trick (start save in single player mode, change mode there, save game, upload to the server) but it did not help. is there anything else that can be done?

My server decided to break, so I'm trying to use the files from a backup to play locally.
My problem is that I can't seem to find the save I need to play it locally.
The server ran on a Linux (Ubuntu LTS 20.04.3).
But when I look on the wiki it says the files needs to be in ~/.config/Epic/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames
In the "Saved" folder, I don't have a folder called "SaveGames".
The entire backup is 4.36 GB, so I'm pretty sure it's there, I just can't find it.
Does anyone know where to look?
When I am looking for file on linux, I use mlocate. If you haven't installed it before, use your package manager and then initialize mlocate's database by running "updatedb", then use "locate sav" to find files with the word sav in them. It might give more than it should, but it will find your .sav files

Hello, with my friends we bought a dedicated server on NitroServ (6gb ram), and we have a bug with items on convoyers. Between 2 convoyers, the items stops or slow down, sometime they disapear and come back further on the convoyer, but it happen only between 2 convoyers, at the junction. I saw that there is " FG.NetworkQuality" actually set to 1 , but i don't know if i have to touch this, it say "Sets the network configuration for the game server.".
-> Is it a general bug for every dedicated servers atm ?
-> If not, should i put the FG.NetworkQuality higher than 1 ? 2, 3 ? more ?

Hi, I am setting up a dedicated server using ContainerStation in Qnap. Server runs, but I have a trouble with configuring network.
My NAS has got 2 aggregated LAN ports (IP: 192.168.0.10).
Docker instance is set to a NAT with forwarded 3 ports (15777, 15000, 7777).
When I try to connect in game to the server using credentials (192.168.0.10:15777) nothing happens. It says: Server name pending & offline/NotAuthenticated.
I am only talking about LAN now, no outer connections yet.
Is there way to close the server than just pressing X?

I am guessing you are likely not going to have the results you want using a qnap device, but also containers seem to be one of the hardest methods for setup
Well, I kinda found a solution. I just had to configure virtual switch.
yeah there are a ton of different ways to do it but by default docker needs to be told to allow the ports through almost like portforwarding

@ebon cloud is the EA or EXP? Also that sounds like a memory or driver problem, but it could just be a bug with the save file.

@opaque pine I've had issues like this, if you're on the same network as the machine, make sure you're connecting to it's local IP, if you're not, then it's just a route issue, these can change pretty quick based on your ISP.

I have a dedicated server going with 2 other friends. We're in tier 8 now and recently all the map markers disappeared. The map only shows trains and train stations now. I can't even see where my own character is on the map. The filters menu on the map used to show many different options like for players, HUB, Space Station, crates, etc... but now it's only the above mentioned 2 items. It was working just fine like a week ago. Also the fog of war is no longer being revealed. Basically, the map is almost completely non-functional.
Is this a new bug or is there a workaround to fix it so all the other items can be shown?

Hello, I have been looking into if there has been any info to address this but I didn't see anything, sorry if this has already been discussed elsewhere. My server is not allowing for trains longer than 2 cars, the 3rd and later cars are not operating. I know there was some comments on this at release, has there been progress on getting the longer trains operating? We have been unsuccessful and I have not see any info acknowledging this possible issue. (not the same as the first stalled stations that were fixed in the earlier patch)

gentlemen, does anyone know a way to deal with explodable rocks desync? like, the rocks you've blown before are shown as whole after the rejoin, and can't be popped anymore, but you can't build stuff over them either.
no, the server knows the rocks're popped, which is why it doesn't resend their destruction info.
the client doesn't.
with the client, yes. restarts don't help with this. every time you rejoin those rocks are whole again.
it's especially bad when the rock is on the node. you better make sure you've placed the miner when you popped it, otherwise the node is de-facto lost for this game.
oh, incidentally, "server will restart in 30 minutes" warning just went up, so we'll have an additional datapoint of that very soon.
only way that I have heard of fixing it is loading the save in single player on your pc make sure they are gone there save it and reupload to the server

So far, I've been able to run the dedicated server on an Ubuntu machine, but failed to get it to run on OpenSuse (Leap 15.3). Has someone been luckier than me ? can you provide some hint/hoowto ? (not very experienced with linux but willing to learn)
I'm not a Suse admin, but I had issues with RH/CentOS (not that I dug into it much). So, it might be library support for SF-Servers. I would suggest Ubuntu or another Debian-based linux. Or the cough docker image hacks and coughs that they said last stream they were going to release.
FYI, not a fan of docker or containers... just my personal opinion

restart is hard coded in the server at 24hrs
you can run multiple but you would need to adjust the ports so they dont clash and yes it would effectively double the requirements

considering the number, you are probably hitting the 100M Ethernet limit. It can be ether the network card (check their capabilities) or the cable (some old ones can be unable to work at 1000M, switching the cards to 100M sync). EIther way, it should shown it you request your connections status (check how to do that on your OS).

Hi, im trying to figure out how to setup a dedicated server with the steam tool. Ive done a few MC dedicated servers before but am still a bit confused since I havent found a clear guide for this one. After launching the tool it gave the the command window but im wondering what other things i need to do to get it running/ where i find the server IP.
The server IP is the IP address of the computer running the service. Just like with Minecraft servers- you may need to forward ports from your WAN IP to your Local IP. This is documented on the Wiki, including which ports to forward.

I've encountered an issue yesterday to which I can't find a solution.
My Dedicated server is working (on ubuntu linux, as a started service), I've played for like 8hours on it.
Yesterday evening, I tried to connect while connected through VPN. The Server did not recognize me and required an authentication. I disconnected, disconnect my VPN connection, and tried to reconnect.
To be confronted to "server seems to be offline".
Whatever I've tried after that failed.
- restart server on the linux VM
- delete/recreate server in the server list ingame
- reinstall game client
I've tried connecting on a local VM where I tested Server's setup before, and it connects well, so I think the issue might be server side.
Can someone help please ?
Problem solved. IPv6 and IPv4 were resolved from the FQDN but only IPv4 was supported for communication with the server.

Docker
The server can be ran in a Docker container. There are many such containers available on Docker's public repository. Please direct any questions about using these containers to their respective maintainers.
