Hey guys, Im looking into security measures for my Satisfactory server, one of the main things im looking into is how to make your server create a backup save file every single day. Does anyone know how to do that?

#

I am trying to download the dedicated server on steam but I do not see it in the tools area. All i see are the games i own and their tools. not sure what i am missing. Also I dont own it on steam only on Epic.

i just made my own dedicated server but i'm unable to join. i can find it in the server manager but when i go to join it says "you are not connected to this server" then the game restarts shortly after.

#

Is there a way to make a dedicated server without steam or epic games?

nova cliff
#

No - but you don't need a steam account to get the dedicated server through steamcmd - you can log in as "Anonymous"

rustic lantern
#

Maybe a stupid question, can the dedicated server post REST API calls? HTTP POST, I'm completely OK with this option.

nova cliff
#

not that I've seen

wild notch
#

I tried getting it though steamcmd but it did not download. it created the folder but nothing inside it.

Does the Dedicated server work for both early access and experimental? or ?

Any clue if ARM support for dedicated servers is coming some time this year? I read there was some difficulty with some library. Otherwise i'll have to look for a different vps

ZAP VPS hosting. I finally got it working. for some reason adding the program and the port to the firewall was not working. So I just added the ports with no program tied to it and it started working.

I think its because it does not use "FactoryServer.exe". It uses "UE4Server-Win64-Shipping.exe"

For the server.

vestal garnet
wild notch
#

@round latch You will have to ask GPortal to check the firewall ports that i posted. I am assuming you do not have access to the server computer only a web interface on their website.

round latch
#

Correct

wild notch
#

My issue when I was setting up the dedicated server on my server computer is that I did not have the Firewall ports open correctly. I had the same "offline" message. As soon as I did it all stated working. Since you do not have access to your servers computer to open the firewall ports then you will need to contact GPortal for support.

alpine dawn

and yes you will need to contact your hosting provider for support

we dont have any way to debug or troubleshoot their services

I personally dont use the windows version of the server

swift delta

Got ya, it says that the service was set up correctly not sure how test it out.. dont know if its supposed to relaunch the program when it close.. which would mean that if i shut it down it would automatically restart.. or is it just supposed to keep it form shutting down every 24 hrs.

swift delta
#

if anyone else is using NSSM, and can give me a hand with it send me a DM, i can see the service running, but if i close my server it doesnt reopen it.. not sure what im doing wrong.

one of the reasons i want to see if there is anyone else that has had success using it to keep there server up and running..

orchid vault

yes people use it

swift delta

running on windows 10 and using the steam client.

orchid vault

just have to learn how to setup and use it

swift delta
#

Or could possible get some pointers from people who have set it up successfully since ive been trying for close to an hour now.. with still no luck..

orchid vault

i would find tutorial or how to and read to learn

@flat sorrel from the modding discord’s bot

Mods do not work on dedicated servers. Dediserver support will require work and time. Please read the #faq about dediservers for more info, and do not ask for ETAs.
If a hosting service tells you they can make mods work, they are not telling the truth. Mods have to be built for these platforms, and they are not able to rebuild our stuff.

since it's a vps, it's like a commandline only.

alpine dawn

it likely did launch but you didnt do it from the command line with -log -unattended so it just is running in the background with no output @timid obsidian

you will have to kill it in task manager and start it up with the proper command line parameters

#

odd, what kinda interface bond was it?

#

802.3ad?

rustic lantern
#

type=5, if I recall correctly, 10G fibre

#

HP Gen 10, but not sure if it was 380 or something else.

alpine dawn
#

never had any issues with link aggregation if properly setup

rustic lantern
#

link was OK, but something related to 6 (probably bad GW) dit it, so everything including GPN (basically anything including SSH) went to 6 address, not 4 as designed

alpine dawn
#

inbound to the machine?

#

so people were trying to hit its ipv4 address and it was somehow coming to the v6?

#

upstream nat is the only way for that to happen

rustic lantern
#

yes, we had directives for dividing the network, later we had network team to turn on the ports (so basically a manager found a shitty excuse to keep their positions, although it could be fully automated in that time)

alpine dawn
#

anyway it sounds like someone forgot to finish configuring the upstream router to do translation back to v4

rustic lantern
#

probably. Since we were just the folks deploying the system itself, we were out of any mean how to solve it ourselves

alpine dawn
#

yeah nothin you can do if the people running the network dont know what they are doing

#

figured out why my VM is not picking up the RAs

#

I suspect there is a setting I am supposed to click on in proxmox to make that on

#

rather than manually editing that file

rustic lantern
#

what's the distro?

alpine dawn
#

its ubuntu server running in a LXC container on proxmox

rustic lantern
#

aha, I'm used to standard /etc/network/interfaces

alpine dawn
#

there was indeed a setting in the web ui to enable it

rustic lantern
#

or /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts on RHEL/Fedora/Centos

alpine dawn
#

it was set to static

#

and yes that net config is not in the normal location for ubuntu either

#

but due to the nature of having a webui configure it they had to put configs in standard places

rustic lantern
#

makes sense.

alpine dawn
#

so they are banking on the fact that almost all distros use systemd

#

its a dirty hack but it works

rustic lantern
#

I remember times of /etc/init.d ...

alpine dawn
#

wow that was dead simple, just one quick change in the gui and reboot the container

#

up on ipv6

#

cool now both my containers have ipv6

rustic lantern
#

I know LXC, maybe, do you know openVZ?

alpine dawn
#

hmm I have used openVZ before

#

it was kinda a pain in the ass at the time because it was a VPS I was paying for

#

and it couldnt properly do openvpn because of the tun interface

#

it was a nightmare I ended up switching away from that

#

so all that to say yes I have been a user of that tech but not an admin

rustic lantern
#

I've been using it since I've heard about it until I've heard about LXC

#

which was way better

alpine dawn
#

yeah LXC is amazing

rustic lantern
#

I'm on Podman/Docker combo right now

alpine dawn
#

KVM is good too if you need a windows or BSD VM

#

I dont do docker

rustic lantern
#

I sometimes must, but if I can, I do Podman

alpine dawn
#

havent found a situation yet where I had to use docker

rustic lantern
#

I'm using it rather than LXC, I like it more

alpine dawn
#

dunno it seems like a pain in the ass to work with

sinful grotto
#

how do i setup a dedicated server if i downloaded it on epic games

cosmic sky
#

@alpine dawn Docker is love, docker is life

alpine dawn
#

nah fam

alpine dawn
cosmic sky
#

As a windows user and linux enthusiast I like the option of spawning linux VMs from command line on windows

#

it's easy to manage and works everytime the exact same way

alpine dawn
#

I mean you can do that with hyper-v

cosmic sky
#

ewww hyper-v

#

how do you run your linux VMs on linux then

alpine dawn
#

LXC

cosmic sky
#

never heard of it

#

googlin'

#

are hyper-V machines made to be created by scripts ? I've never done that

#

You create a new server, configure it like you want and then just copy the disk files around ?

alpine dawn
#

powershell my dude

#

yeah you can 100% manage hyper-v with scripts if you want

cosmic sky
#

at work we create a bunch of docker VMs with specific code versions to run automated integration tests on

alpine dawn
#

yeah thats what docker was made to do

cosmic sky
#

It's fairly easy to setup, I don't know if it would have made sense to do the same with hyper-v

alpine dawn
#

it just sucks as a general purpose VM

cosmic sky
#

ah yeah, the management interface is shit compared to hyper-V gotta give it that

#

hardware passthrough and such is sub-optimal

alpine dawn
#

about the only thing it has going for it is once you figure out all the black magic fuckery involved to get it working it works every time on any computer

#

but I dont need that for my VMs

#

I need easy to manage

#

which usually means being able to SSH into them and treat them like a real server

cosmic sky
#

docker ps -a list all docker containers
docker exec -it <container id> /bin/bash you ssh in it

alpine dawn
#

cant do that from my desktop

cosmic sky
#

you can

alpine dawn
#

would have to ssh to the server running docker then dick around with those docker commands

cosmic sky
#

you mean you'd need a CLI ?

#

aaahhhh

alpine dawn
#

I just want to fire up putty and ssh to an ip

#

done

cosmic sky
#

makes sense

#

yeah docker wouldn't allow that

alpine dawn
#

which is why its sub optimal

cosmic sky
#

I have no idea what your setup is haha

alpine dawn
#

I run proxmox

#

so everything is just containers

#

and they show up on my network as actual servers that I can ssh into and manage with native commands

cosmic sky
#

okay ! so you have a virtualization layer on a physical server

alpine dawn
#

yep

cosmic sky
#

it's your own hardware ?

alpine dawn
#

yes

cosmic sky
#

dang neat setup

#

I just upgraded my CPU/mobo/ram and I thought I might do that instead of selling it

#

posted it for more than it was worth and somebody bought it so I didn't ahaha

alpine dawn
cosmic sky
#

what a cool setup

alpine dawn
#

right now its only got 2 containers and a windows VM

sinful grotto
#

@alpine dawn i have hit a rough spot can you help me

#

if so dm me

cosmic sky
#

just ask your question here mate

sinful grotto
#

em k

#

so i followed all the steps

alpine dawn
#

yeah ask in here I am busy at work right now

sinful grotto
#

but it still says my server is offline

#

lemme grab a pic

#

no matter what i do this happens

#

can i get some help

#

@cosmic sky @alpine dawn

cosmic sky
#

your server is setup locally ?

sinful grotto
#

idk man i dont do this stuff

#

im just trynna mess around wiht my freinds lol

cosmic sky
#

your machine where the server is running is also where you're connecting from ?

sinful grotto
#

im confused

#

can you maybe simplify it a bit more

cosmic sky
#

Where is your server

#

where are your running the dedicated from

sinful grotto
#

my pc

cosmic sky
#

and you're trying to login from that same pc ?

sinful grotto
#

yes

#

am i not supposed to do that?

cosmic sky
#

nah it's fine

#

You should have a text log somewhere

#

the wiki section Common errors or problems

sinful grotto
#

whta text log lol

cosmic sky
#

has a bunch of steps that ask to look at the log

#

have you found the log yet ?

sinful grotto
#

no

cosmic sky
#

that's what you need to do then

sinful grotto
#

how do i find the log

cosmic sky
#

it's in the same folder the server is installed most likely

#

it's gonna have a bunch of messages in it, including probably the error why it's not working

sinful grotto
#

what do i do

#

i dont see a log anywhere

cosmic sky
#

you have to run the server with the -log option

#

in a command line

sinful grotto
#

man ima say this again

#

i know nothing about commands and that stuff

cosmic sky
#

shift + right click in the background of that folder

#

then you paste .\FactoryServer.exe -log -unattended

#

(I think)

sinful grotto
#

got it

#

so many command lines

#

huh

#

it just kinda dissapered

#

never touched nothing

#

just poof

cosmic sky
#

maybe the -unattended should be removed ay

sinful grotto
#

um

#

you know the thing i just copied

#

well it somehow just changed to this

cosmic sky
#

when you select some text in a command line and right click it copies text

sinful grotto
#

o

#

this says fatal error in it though

#

could that be what we need

cosmic sky
#

Could not bind any addresses to port '15777'

#

that means you're already running the server on that port (probably)

#

you need to shutdown your currently running server if you want to start another one

sinful grotto
#

how do i do that

cosmic sky
#

reboot your PC for an easy shutdown lol

#

or maybe you kill it with task manager

sinful grotto
#

ok i killed 2 things that where in the background called satisfactory

#

did that do it?

cosmic sky
#

try again with the command line

sinful grotto
#

is doing something

cosmic sky
#

better

sinful grotto
#

so what now

#

a bunch of command lines showed up

cosmic sky
#

try to connect, see if something moves

sinful grotto
#

so try to load up satisfactory?

cosmic sky
#

yeah

#

or read around the log and look for something that seems wrong

#

search for "error" or "fatal" or "warning" maybe

sinful grotto
#

there are 3 red command lines

cosmic sky
#

not good

sinful grotto
#

all say same thing

#

[ 0]LogGenericPlatformMisc: Error: SetEnvironmentVar not implemented for this platform: SteamAppId = 526870

#

also alot of warning things

#

there is a bunch of yellow warning lines and those 3 red lines

#

@cosmic sky you there

cosmic sky
#

idk about this specific error

sinful grotto
#

great

cosmic sky
#

take a screenshot of everything around it maybe

sinful grotto
#

k

cosmic sky
#

paste the whole log

#

that line isn't the problem I think

sinful grotto
#

there is like 25 warnings

cosmic sky
#

[2022.01.05-19.16.40:860][ 0]LogOnline: Warning: STEAM: Failed to initialize Steam, this could be due to a Steam server and client running on the same machine. Try running with -NOSTEAM on the cmdline to disable.

#

there's a lot of errors lol

sinful grotto
#

ya

#

i did something wrong

#

for sure

cosmic sky
#

did you run this in powershell
New-NetFirewallRule -DisplayName "Allow Satisfactory default inbound ports" -Direction Inbound -Action Allow -EdgeTraversalPolicy Allow -Protocol UDP -LocalPort 15000,15777,7777

sinful grotto
#

nope

cosmic sky
#

lol you have to follow the steps

#

try it

sinful grotto
#

i followed some vid my freind told me to follow

cosmic sky
#

ah

sinful grotto
#

that is alot of red

cosmic sky
#

the end of your log says NAT Detection failed, unable to resolve host

#

you have to run that as admin probably

sinful grotto
#

New-NetFirewallRule : Access is denied.
At line:1 char:1

  • New-NetFirewallRule -DisplayName "Allow Satisfactory default inbound ...

      + FullyQualifiedErrorId : Windows System Error 5,New-NetFirewallRule
cosmic sky
#

yeah

sinful grotto
#

so lemme guess

#

i gotta restart from scratch

#

this is the vid i followed

cosmic sky
#

open powershell as admin

sinful grotto
#

done

#

YAY NO RED FOR ONCE

#

nwo what

#

now*

cosmic sky
#

run the server

sinful grotto
#

so start up satisfactory

cosmic sky
#

no

sinful grotto
#

o

cosmic sky
#

run the server server with powershel

#

and look at the log again

sinful grotto
#

oh that command from earlier?

cosmic sky
#

make sure it doesn't say "nat problem" at the end

#

yeah

#

NAT Detection failed, unable to resolve host is not good

sinful grotto
#

so run this right

#

.\FactoryServer.exe -log -unattended

cosmic sky
#

yiss

sinful grotto
#

same thing

#

[2022.01.05-19.31.04:039][ 1]LogOnline: Warning: OSS: EOSSDK-LogEOSP2P: NAT Detection failed, unable to resolve host

cosmic sky
#

reboot your PC maybe it'll help with new firewall rules idk at this point

#

don't open steam or anything

#

only open your powershell and start the server

#

after reboot

sinful grotto
#

ok so ima reboot then open discord and power shell

#

.\FactoryServer.exe : The term '.\FactoryServer.exe' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable
program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again.

#

BRUHHH

#

@cosmic sky im dying here what am i doing wrong

#

im done

#

dedicated servers are gay

#

and im never trying them again

cosmic sky
#

@sinful grotto you were in the wrong folder

#

You have to run this command in the server folder

sinful grotto
#

o

#

shit

#

ok one more try

cosmic sky
#

run powershell as admin

#

and try starting server like that

#

you have to change folder

#

command "cd <path>"

sinful grotto
#

?

#

step by step pls

cosmic sky
#

current folder when you open powershell

sinful grotto
#

lemme get that

cosmic sky
sinful grotto
#

PS C:\Windows\system32>

#

this is wat i got

cosmic sky
#

you want to browse the directory with your server in it

sinful grotto
#

and how do i do that

cosmic sky
#

go in the folder with regular windows explorer

#

copy the text in the bar up top

#

cd <ctrl+v>

#

well you right click to paste actully

#

not ctrlv

sinful grotto
#

ok i get that part

#

but how do i get to that folder

#

i dont see that text

cosmic sky
#

you had it earlier lmao

#

cd C:/Users/Noah/Downloads/satisfactory/satisfactorydedicatedserver/Engine/Binaries/Win64/

sinful grotto
#

so i need to get back there?

cosmic sky
#

it's in your log you pasted

#

yeah

#

well if that's where the server .exe is

sinful grotto
#

ok on top of my powershell it says this

#

PS C:\Users\Noah\Downloads\satisfactory\satisfactorydedicatedserver\Engine\Binaries\Win64>

#

i see a crash report client with the satisfactory symbol on it

cosmic sky
#

idk run the same command as earlier

sinful grotto
#

eh

#

.\FactoryServer.exe : The term '.\FactoryServer.exe' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file,

#

same thing

chrome torrent
#

screenshot of prompt?

sinful grotto
#

hm?

chrome torrent
#

post a screenshot of your current command prompt

sinful grotto
#

if i try to screenshot it my screenshot just tturns balck for some reason

cosmic sky
#

he's still in the wrong folder

sinful grotto
#

i am.......

#

but on top of the folder it says this

#

C:\Users\Noah\Downloads\satisfactory\satisfactorydedicatedserver\Engine\Binaries\Win64

#

this is what you told me to find

cosmic sky
#

you have to go in the folder where FactoryServer.exe is

#

I have no idea what folder that is on your computer

#

you should know where that is, you were in it earlier

chrome torrent
#

why are your screenshots black? seems like an odd error :p

sinful grotto
cosmic sky
#

yes

sinful grotto
#

ok

cosmic sky
#

now browse there with your admin powershell

chrome torrent
#

while i havent read the entire history, cant you use that start.cmd command in there?

sinful grotto
#

so i do cd then the ting on top

chrome torrent
#

or make it do what you want from there

sinful grotto
#

idk im new to commands

cosmic sky
sinful grotto
#

like this is the first time i have seen powershell

#

done

chrome torrent
#

if you think you're in there, type dir *.exe and see if it shows up

cosmic sky
#

start server with the command now

sinful grotto
#

this is the one right

#

.\FactoryServer.exe -log -unattended

cosmic sky
#

ye

sinful grotto
#

pleaseeee

#

DAMN IT

#

still says nat unable to resolve host

cosmic sky
#

try ingame

#

see if you see it

chrome torrent
#

this is why windows sucks as a server

sinful grotto
cosmic sky
#

open up satisfactory

#

and look if you see your server

sinful grotto
#

k

#

it is just taking a year and a half

#

bruh epic games launcher dont even be starting

chrome torrent
#

epic
windows
well okay im outta here πŸ˜‡

sinful grotto
#

eh

alpine dawn
sinful grotto
#

no

alpine dawn
#

that error means you have 2 copies of the server running

sinful grotto
#

well

#

oh right we did

#

everything else is starting up but epic games aint

chrome torrent
#

just reboot the thing :p

sinful grotto
#

ok

chrome torrent
#

fresh start and all that

cosmic sky
#

he did lol

alpine dawn
#

dunno where you guys are and not going to read the scrollback but let me know if you want me to jump in

cosmic sky
#

so far: Logs seems to say a lot of errors, steam API issues, NAT issues

#

he rebooted

#

ran powershell as admin

#

not working

alpine dawn
#

what errors specifically

cosmic sky
#

open firewall

chrome torrent
#

yeah but then epic didnt work so i suggested another reboot to deal with that

#

well those reactions get annoying real quick xD

alpine dawn
#

epic

sinful grotto
#

back

#

ok before i load up anything

#

is there something i gotta do first

cosmic sky
#

wash your hands

chrome torrent
#

install gentoo

#

nah just start the server

#

see if it starts up

#

then, try client

sinful grotto
#

ok so start the server then load satisfactory right

chrome torrent
#

yes

alpine dawn
#

do not start the server by double clicking on the exe that will result in sad times

sinful grotto
#

ye im not

#

im runing this command

#

.\FactoryServer.exe -log -unattended

#

that is what cheeto said to do

alpine dawn
#

yup

sinful grotto
#

another nat detection failed

alpine dawn
#

thats fine

#

dont need it for now

sinful grotto
#

so what now

chrome torrent
#

check game

sinful grotto
#

ok epic loads this time

#

these reactions man

alpine dawn
#

open the game go to the server manager and put in your computer's IP address

sinful grotto
#

ok

chrome torrent
#

might want to start with localhost if its your local pc

sinful grotto
#

wdym

alpine dawn
#

do you know your PC IP address?

sinful grotto
#

yes

#

i got it copied

alpine dawn
#

add a server in server manager

#

put that IP in

sinful grotto
#

what port

alpine dawn
#

leave it alone

#

just put the IP in

sinful grotto
#

ok

#

then hit add server?

alpine dawn
#

yes

sinful grotto
alpine dawn
#

what IP did you use?

chrome torrent
#

what ip did you enter

sinful grotto
#

my public ip

alpine dawn
#

wrong

sinful grotto
#

is that the wrong one

chrome torrent
#

yeah thats not gonna work

#

add localhost

sinful grotto
#

o

#

how

chrome torrent
#

add server

#

address

#

localhost

alpine dawn
#

delete that server

#

add a new one with the address localhost or 127.0.0.1

sinful grotto
#

it is asking me to name it

alpine dawn
#

cool

chrome torrent
#

good

sinful grotto
#

finally

chrome torrent
#

thaht means its working

alpine dawn
#

its working

sinful grotto
#

YESSS

#

so am i good now

#

just name it and im done

alpine dawn
#

if you are the only one playing yes

#

if you want friends to join no

#

there are a ton more steps

sinful grotto
#

i want a few freinds

#

lemme just make a pass and stuff

#

then i will do the rest of the steps

chrome torrent
#

(imma be a dick here but) i always wonder if its wise to have someone with no experience run a publicly-accessibly server

alpine dawn
#

if you dont have access to your router to add port forwarding this is all a waste of time @sinful grotto

sinful grotto
#

wat

#

wdym port forwarding

alpine dawn
chrome torrent
#

do you know what a 'router' is?

sinful grotto
#

i agree this is not a good idea but either way my only freind who knows this shit is a dick

chrome torrent
#

ever logged into its console panel

sinful grotto
sinful grotto
kindred violet
#

I just came across an Intel NUC 6. Time to see how well it runs the dedicated server!

alpine dawn
#

do you know the login credentials for your router?

sinful grotto
#

lemme guess

alpine dawn
#

yeah

#

stop here

sinful grotto
#

i wasted your time

#

crap

chrome torrent
#

well not really wasted

#

but

#

yknow it just sounds unwise tbh

#

but if you insist

sinful grotto
#

well

chrome torrent
#

you can figure out the credentials to your router

#

add something resembling a 'Port forward' somewhere in the manual

sinful grotto
#

man i just wanted a server to play with some freinds and the hsot did not have to be online 24/7

alpine dawn
#

99% of the time they are written on the device

chrome torrent
#

cant you host one from the game itself?

alpine dawn
#

he would need to port forward

#

lol

chrome torrent
#

Regular game comes with a server i believe, people can join... i know at least via Steam they can

#

thats how we started out

#

but tbh that was in the same household, once we wanted to invite external players i just set up a dedicated one

sinful grotto
#

ok just tell me

alpine dawn
#

yeah you have to have ports open for the listen server too

sinful grotto
#

is this worth the time

chrome torrent
#

it could be

sinful grotto
#

or should i just suck it up and host one without a dedicated server

chrome torrent
#

i'd go with that tbh

#

seems a bit safer

#

one security bug in the same server and you invite north korea

sinful grotto
#

oh damn

alpine dawn
#

well...either way you will need to get into that router

sinful grotto
#

y

alpine dawn
#

to allow the ports through

chrome torrent
#

i only allowlist the IP's of my friends but your generic router wont be able to do that ,(usually)

alpine dawn
#

nobody will be able to connect otherwise

sinful grotto
#

yep ima just go with the safer rout

#

thanks for the help even though it was a waste

#

have a good evening

alpine dawn
#

welp now you have a sweet lan party server

chrome torrent
#

now, dont let this discourage from system engineering

alpine dawn
#

tbh his router most likely has the default password on it

#

haha

chrome torrent
#

i dont doubt that

#

and id love for people to selfhost

#

but it should be safe

alpine dawn
#

I mean of course we would have him put a condom on the ethernet jack, I'm not a monster

chrome torrent
#

you kinda are :p

cosmic sky
#

my router default password from my ISP is a 30 digit/letter mix

#

secure enough lol

#

trial and error would take a while

alpine dawn
quartz sun
#

Any way to improve train performance with mutiple players? They work pretty well when im the only one on but as soon as anyone else joins they start rubber banding

alpine dawn
#

are you able to monitor the server per core CPU usage when that happens?

quartz sun
#

No, this host lets me see ram usage and thats fine, but no cpu data

alpine dawn
#

ah well best guess you are likely maxing out single thread performance on their system

#

unfortunately hosting services are kinda a black box and its near impossible to know what is going on inside them

quartz sun
#

Ah ok ty

alpine dawn
#

its shared hosting so depending on how many others are using the same server machine and how much they overprovision their hardware it could be a transient issue

sage crow
#

Does anyone know a good video where I can follow how to start a server through the epic games version I mostly find steam versions

alpine dawn
#

did you already install it?

#

once its downloaded to a location the steps are basically the same

sage crow
#

Yup

#

Ah okay

alpine dawn
#

epic will keep it up to date

#

but yeah other than that all the start up commands and or service work is the same

sage crow
#

I see videos where they say to download steam cmd that's why I was confused

alpine dawn
#

yeah its either or not both

#

you can either use steamcmd to acquire the files or epic

sage crow
#

Ohh ok thanksπŸ‘Œ

alpine dawn
#

once you have the files setup is the same

#

the quick and dirty get it working way is to open a shell and navigate to the location where it installed to and simply issue .\FactoryServer.exe -log -unattended

#

should be off to the races after that

#

if you fucked up and double clicked the exe because you got too excited you will need to use task manager to kill it because it will be running in the background

sage crow
#

I'll check it out in a bit and see if I can do it

alpine dawn
#

obviously if you want a more robust way to start it and have it come up on boot you will need to look into running it as a service

#

which is covered in the wiki as well

gaunt abyss
#

do private dedicated servers also run so poorly in terms of performance later in the game ? Or is my server host not able to create good servers ?

alpine dawn
#

your host likely has overloaded servers (shared/overprovisioned)

#

private servers are as good as you can buy

#

πŸ˜„

#

general rule of thumb highest single core performance you can get the better

#

it is multithreaded to a point but for the most part the bulk of the work happens in 1 thread

gaunt abyss
#

According to support, the Satisfactory servers are not overloaded at all, they blame Coffee Stain Studios. πŸ˜… They say their system scales up depending on performance and the developer's server software would not use the resources

alpine dawn
#

dunno man I run a server at my house and I dont have any issues

#

chances are they are running server grade hardware with a shitload of low clockspeed cores

cosmic sky
#

The opposite would be surprising

#

High performance per core server CPUs are rare

alpine dawn
#

and expensive

gaunt abyss
#

Too bad I was always very satisfied with the servers from my host and never had problems before πŸ˜•

alpine dawn
#

could be a transient issue

#

like I said its shared hosting

#

so if there are a ton of other game server on there that will affect your server

gaunt abyss
#

Sure, that's what most server providers do

alpine dawn
#

the problem becomes when they overprovision or if you overreach the abilities of their hardware

gaunt abyss
#

It's just a pity, my Ark, Minecraft ect. servers always ran without any problems

alpine dawn
#

unless they offer you tools to view the critical stats of the server there isnt much troubleshooting we can do

gaunt abyss
#

Does anyone know a good server provider for Satisfactory at the moment ?

alpine dawn
#

I suspect that would be highly subjective to your location, build size, number of players etc

gaunt abyss
#

the servers should always run smoothly, no matter if 2 or 10 players or if I have the map completely occupied with buildings. That is my requirement for a good server host πŸ˜…

alpine dawn
#

might be kinda hard to come by

frosty gale
#

If they wanted to take your network down, they can do it in 5 seconds with physical access

frosty gale
grizzled olive
#

how to make it so that the create game doesnt skip onboarding?

alpine dawn
grizzled olive
#

the server always skips onboarding theres no option to start from tier 0 instead of 1

alpine dawn
#

oh are you talking about the landing pod thing?

#

yeah that doesnt happen on the server

#

well I am happy to report that the game works fine on ipv6

anyway to instal this manually

orchid vault
#

probably lol

#

google it .. this is game support not unreal engine errors

#

most wont know the error codes

frigid vapor
#

tried googling it but nothing comes up about it

orchid vault
#

try asking in tech room .. thats not server issue

frigid vapor
#

but its only poping up when i try to launch the dedicated server

alpine dawn

also check the event viewer

Hi folks. I still can't get my Linux Satisfactory server to start up again. Its been running fine since dedicated servers were released but I get the following error now:

can try the bug site for the write memory error

gray lintel
#

yeah I've searched the internet reasonably hard but nothing is coming up. I'm verifying the installation files with the following command:
steamcmd +login anonymous +force_install_dir SatisfactoryDedicatedServer +app_update 1690800 -beta public validate +quit

hushed gateBOT
orchid vault
#

try the bug site

gray lintel
#

yeah I've been searching through there but no luck. I wonder if my game save is corrupt. I guess I'll try an earlier save and see how that goes.

gray lintel
#

that didn't help 😦

can you add mods into a server manager through a save i currently have on said server?

hi, i also cant get my linux server to start properly. the steam api fails to start constantly

the steamclient.so did not exist at "/home/steam/.steam/sdk64/steamclient.so" for me, so i created a link to "/home/steam/.steam/steamcmd/linux64/steamclient.so" as it was the only one i could find (as described in the wiki)

i also noticed, if i type "steamcmd +apps_installed" it shows:
0 apps installed :

same happens if i install via linuxgsm

#

okay nevermind. i got it running. thank you anyway!

Good evening,
I host my dedicated server at home and have enabled the corresponding ports in my router, everything worked so far.
Now I would like to host a second server (runs on a different Internal IP address), but if I try to unblock this port again, it doesn't work, of course, because each port can only be used once.

But if I enter the port in Satisfactory as a changed port, it doesn't work.

What options do I now have to run two servers at the same time via one external IP address, or is this currently unsupported?

alpine dawn
#

-ServerQueryPort= -BeaconPort= -Port=

#

you will need to set all 3 of those

stoic dew
#

And where can I change the start arguments if the dedicated server is running on a Linux machine?

#

Never Mind, I can just put them behind ./FactoryServer.sh

alpine dawn
#

sorry

#

the game works off the query port

stoic dew
#

So in my Case i have to enter 15801 in the Game UI

alpine dawn
#

yes

stoic dew
#

Thanks

Truck station names not saving on server, anyone know what may cause or fix this or if it's a known bug?
