since the update we are unable to remove leaves and trees
and in the console it gives the error unable to remove 288 instances for foliege removal

I have satisfactory server running as a windows service by following the wiki. To update the server, since I don't have a running command window to gracefully shut it down, it's recommended to type quit in the in game server manager console. The problem is with the server running as a service, it just boots right back up. If I open task manager and stop the service, it force closes the server. Is there a better way to stop the server gracefully and prevent it from booting? I was thinking of a batch script that gracefully shuts down and stops the service, then checks stemcmd for an update before starting the service again, but it doesn't seem like there is a clean way to do all of this yet, correct?
I know I could have it just run in a command window instead of a service, but the point of the server was to run it on a headless system and being a service allows for it to start again after an update reboot/crash/power failure
Right now the way I have had to update is in the server manager, manually save, quit in the console, then stop the service (witch force quites the server instead of a graceful shutdown) run the steamcmd app update, then start the service again.
Is the service set to Auto start?
Yes. Isn't that the point of it running as a service? In case if crash or something?
First set the service to "manual", then type quit in server manager console, do the update thing, set service to automatic.
Or just use Linux ๐คช
Pre-start executes the steamcmd update before starting the dedicated server.
Linux is my preference for virtualization.

I would use Linux. I was originally using a docker in unraid for it, but was running into performance issues on my older hardware so I'm now running the server off a spare laptop
I definitely recommend checking out Pterodactyl. It's basically a wrapper for docker with a nice UI, but runs smoothly.
If I recall correctly, you can add a pre-start directive to a Windows service as well, witch would fix your problem.

I didn't have this issue when running as a docker. It's only after I migrated to my spare windows laptop. Better hardware, but didn't want to wipe it and install a new os just for the game.

Reminds me of 1994 when I was running Remote Access BBS's on DOS 6.2 and Batch.
It just makes it easy. Shortcut on the desktop to one click the service to be set to manual, shutdown the server, run updates, set the service back to auto and start up again.
Iirc, I migrated to Windows 3.1 when it came out, and that's when I fell in love with multitasking
I would prefer to leave it as a docker on my server, but running alongside Plex and a few other Dockers, my hardware was causing rubber banding in game pretty bad

I would say bandwidth might be a consideration

I guess I am not familiar with unRAID
And bandwidth isn't an issue when it's over lan
Had it running in a Linux VM, ProxmoxVE as hypervisor, on a NUC i5 5250U. Moved the game to a friend's server with a more potent CPU.
unRAID is like running a JBOD with plugins, VMs, and Dockers.
I honestly could probably shutdown my 7 Days to Die server on it and I'm sure satisfactory would run better. I'd obviously like to build a newer more powerful and energy efficient server, but that's not in the budget any time soon unfortunately

Had my friend adjust the number of virtual CPUs and increase mem from 4 to 8GB, had a slight issue in the area with 36 refineries, 44 packagers and 100 Fuel Generators ๐
Memory doesn't seem to go above 3-4 the of usage, and it primarily runs off a single core. My issue is I'm running it off a dual xeon x5670 system and those are getting a bit old
I've had mine running on a 4770k @ 4.3 its been fine except for hiccups during saves
on debian in a docker container
Serialisation during saving is a known cause of the hiccup
tickrate floats betwween 24-40 with 1-3 people on 4 brought it to 20
My 1.6Ghz 5250U was running ok, upto the second space alevator launch, that's when the amount of buildings became too much
My friend is now running the dedicated server on a Xeon 5xxx CPU as well
I tried to run it on my nas with dual 2665s but the 2.6Ghz Clock is just too low.
It ran great for solo play on that hardware, but the bigger the factory got, it would struggle. I died a lot due to lag causing my vehicle to send me under the map
So I moved to a laptop with a i7 7700hk and it runs perfect

Hello all. Someone play on a 4netplayer server? since the today update... i can connect, i can move. but when i touch something in my inventory... the game crash instantly ... :/
the extra threads on my 4770 are sitting closer to 20% than 10% from before the update, the main thread is still pinned 100%
Even with the 1.6GHz i5 5250U, total CPU performance was not the real problem, just the game maxing out one thread.
ya but any additional usage I see on those threads is stuff that was offloaded, that docker container is the only thing running on this Debian Machine.
4790K basically the same chip, as my 4770K excluding that my 4770K is the worse binned thing I have ever seen.
I have delidded it put liquid metal on/ tried direct die cooling it. I can get it cold it just wont stay stable over 4.5 with massive over voltage, I have Overlocked my friends chip in my board to 4.9 just didn't win the silicon lottery.
The extra threads do make it perform a lot better

Some other games I play, like World of Tanks, and World of Warships really do run better with the i7
I never had trouble on WoT with my 3570K back when I had it.
But those are quite likely better optimized for multi-core
Star citizen is the game that caused that CPU to crumble.
The i7 was a cheap way to extend the life of my gaming rig for another 2 years

I got a 3600 super cheap just before 5000 series launched, if I need more than this can give Ill probably just look at a 5800x so I dont need to get DDR5 and a new Motherboard unless the performance jump is spectacular.

that happened to me earlier, I think it might be lag from saves and entering the tube at the sametime as a save
Hypertubes definitely cause issues during a save.
And belts built while saving won't ever work. So if you notice a save happening, stop building belts until it's done.

just edited the save game and got rid of all FoliageRemoval, expecting them to be back now

it's a client bug, there's nothing wrong with the save file. we're working on a fix atm
let your game update. load a saved game. quit game. go to your server desktop site, restart your server.
yea, I thought it only affected foliage that was removed before, but it appears it affects all foliage
so I guess the bug is two fold: foliage can't be removed + foliage that was removed in the past is back

@storm mulch get as much biomass as you can and try if it works for shrooms as well, cause you'll need a lot of mycelia and biomass for filters ๐

thats perfet, you need biomass and mycelia a lot for filters for the gasmask and later the hazmat suit
use the bug and grab 10-20 full large containers of mycelia and you are done for a long time

I haven't tried this save on solo yet, so don't know if this is a server only feature or not.
the item lifts have been doing that in dedicated since I started using it. also did it when someone with a particularly slow CPU was hosting the save before my group used the dedicated server.
There's a bug and you get tons of shrooms in minutes, what are you doing without the polymer fabric, is it a normal receipe? Right, sometimes better.... ^^
I usually dont go and farm all crashsites for harddrives in the first few hours ^^

Well, I have to say I consider exploring for hard drives more interesting than exploiting a mycelia bug, but each to their own :)
I am at polymer fabric myself already, but some ppl are only at the start, and then its a nice little help.

Anyone else encounter a signal issue after this last patch? Where they signals were all working perfectly for weeks, but this morning we found that most of our 50+ trains had collided, like the signals weren't functioning.

To be honest, I'm not fairly sure. I'm pretty sure we only get one cpu though, and it seems like they cap RAM at just under 8GB.
We've recently had to move off of G-Portal and spin our save file up on a hosted Ubuntu server on Azure running 4CPU's and 16GB of ram.

Last night it did hit 8.4GB.. currently we're hoving around 7.19. Admittedly, we just restarted the server.. and only have 1 player on it currently.
@clever idol you can ask the support to upgrade the server or give more ressources, we had similar issues with Arma3 once and not even 3hrs after the ticket, it had much more power

At 2 CPU's, the tick rate was pretty bad.. But at 4 CPU's, it improved the tick rate, and pretty much eliminated rubber banding (except on world save).

yes, we are at setting 3 for both server and client.
2 CPU's, world save was taking around 15 seconds, with a 32 second delay in tick rate (seen from the logging).
4 CPU's, here's the last save that just happened:

tick rate is down on me server ... but my temp manufacturing factory no longer looks like it has been abandoned in the jungle for the last 1000 years.

I think what would be helpful is an api message back to the client to indicate that the server is about to do a world save and give a 10 second warning, similar to single player. This would, at a minimum, allow the player to expect some wonkiness for a short period of time..or land.. or get somewhere safe, etc.
Modify how often the server performs an Autosave with FG.AutosaveInterval console command is another way to dilute this problem

when the server cant keep up with everything happening so things take longer than they should like a manufacturer making 5/min of something may only make 3 in 1 min.
hm the patch from yesterday was better, now the DD takes some time after my connect so i can open storages and build again.

after 1 min or so and a massive glitch, i can play normal. The patch fixed yesterday fuxed that. This appeared with the cristmas feature patch. In the end, its playable so idc really

Negative. We've changed the frequency of saving to mitigate the frequency of that lock up.
Sounds like it need a 'Pause on save' option like Factorio
@oblique owl - just for a data point, the previous update 175911 brought back the map in dedicated server clients. In the reversal of update, the map is back to being broken. so something in that code base, while breaking other things like trees, does fix the dedicated server map issue.
back before dedicated servers, I would host a game... and to "solve" the issue I would announce on our voice chat when an autosave was about to happen so that clients could just stop what they were doing until it finished (our world was taking ~20 seconds to save at that point)

Earlier today, I commented that a way that this could be done in a dedicated server/client way is that about 10-15 seconds before the server performs a World Save, that an api message back to the client should be sent that kicks off the "Saving world in 10 seconds" that you see in Single player. That would at least allow the user to pause what they are doing, land somewhere safe, or at least have better expectations of experience.

When running a dedicated server on Ubuntu setup as a service via systemd ... is a 'systemctl restart satisfactory' command considered a 'graceful' shutdown? asking because that's the only way I have to restart the server for updates... is there a way that server manager could be updated to still connect to the console of older server versions to let people with admin rights be able to run the exit command etc without having to login to the server?
In my testing, the Linux build does do a graceful shutdown when sent SIGINT, which is what systemctl does
but not SIGKILL obviously
The devs are planning on adding an API that will allow for an explicit intrinsic graceful shutdown (amongst other things) in the future without needing the full game client at the correct version, but it's probably going to be a while before that happens.
All that said: when I do implement changes that need to be written to state files (e. g. FG.NetworkQuality and the like), I will make the change, and then quit in the console to be certain the change gets written
I'm more concerned about the actual program updates... like today at 9 am my time I got a ping in discord for a friend "Hey server needs an update" ... said friend has the server admin console so that he can always do saves as needed but if the client updates before the server, he can't send the 'exit' command in the client to have the server process end, and restart, which would then do the update for him...

so that's not a version mismatch; that's a straight-up communication error.

likely not related to the game per se unless the game server itself crashed; you'd have to look at the server itself.
Hello. I'm trying to setup a dedicated server using steamcmd on Ubuntu. I've installed and launched the server, as well as forwarded the requested ports, but I still can't get a client to connect
things to check:
- is the server running
- is it still listening on the expected UDP ports
- is the firewall allowing incoming connections on those ports?
- if there is a router, is it still forwarding those ports?

There is not currently a known way to trigger that. That will occur every 24 hours of server uptime

Anytime I have had an issue like that I just had to slowly crawl the train or hypertube track untill I spotted my crate.

Deconstruct the train should kick them out then kill your double and absorb his power... I mean loot. This is assuming you walked the train loop and your double isn't just sitting in the air levitating above the train.

Going by build version, you use the early access client
Experimental is not required, however game version still needs to match the server version exactly. So if nitrado only offers experimental, you also need to use experimental

Took forever to find, hardly any when not saving mine is writing to ram occasional writes of 3- 16 KBytes (probably Logs) then a large write during auto save or client disconnect. Sorry it took so long not used to reading the atop window.

So what you are saying is the EPIC Launcher version of the Dedicated server is only for the Early Access version. If I want to continue on the Experimental version I canโt use it? The Dedicated Server image has the word โExperimentalโ right on it. One would think its meant for the Experimental branch.

I guess it's fair to say Trains are a "bit dodgy" on DS right now. I just tried driving one, and rubber-banding/desync made it unusable.

Hmm... My network setting was on "Ultra" for some reason - methinks that's a bit optimistic as my PC is on wifi. Changing it to medium seems to have helped with the rubber banding at least.

@stray kayak don't play on someone's home hosted server. I'm sure some of you have good fiber internet but I'm also sure there are plenty of low end DSL players out there that think hosting a server on that slow of a connection is going to be JUST FINE. N, it's not. I've got one hosted on g-portal, works great!

This isn't a nitrado issue per say.... It is because they upgraded the server when a new server version came out, the problem is there's only one 'server' and not a split early access server and experimental server.

If you're just playing locally, with a local server (like me) then internet connectivity shouldn't be a factor (aside from some DNS issues maybe). I'm not entirely surprised - there must be a fair amount of optimization yet to do - and we saw just this week how destabilizing such optimizations can be.

I mean, it's playable but my issue with manually driving trains makes it a less than optimal experience. I noticed earlier the train I was driving had left all its freight cars behind. As I stopped to see what was happening, they all caught up in one rush.

they give you the version numbers in the mismatch error so you can just look up the version in #patch-notes to see what you have

Unfortunately, Dedicated Server does not support multi-core. There is no way to increase the performance except by using the latest processor with high IPC. Of course, there is no way to avoid performance degradation if there are more than 4 players or if the game save file exceeds 6Mb.
Until today, I was running a server where 16 people played games, but when the game save file was over 6Mb, the Tickrate for 16 people at the same time was less than 8, so it was difficult to play normally.
servers use multiple cores but mostly load 1 down then expand as needed
most of the game is serial work so cant just spread it across cores

AWS? That's a waste of money. Even if you mobilize the CPU with the latest architecture from AWS, servers with Ryzen 5000 series or Intel 12th generation IPCs are not leased.

Oh I forgot, you probably already did this but our server autosave take like 20 seconds, and it will rubberband us when it finishes. Setting it to +20 minutes helped a lot bc 5 minutes is just way too fast

@stray kayak Are you using the wolveix/satisfactory-server image? I am, and docker stats shows a pretty consistent 150+% CPU usage, which means it's using slightly more than one of the 4 cores of my AMD A10-7700K.

There could be all manner of compromises made for docker, for all I know - but Valheim showed me just how much docker can trivialize server deployment. Me and a bunch of mates played Valheim for weeks on this server; and mostly - the Satisfactory server has been running OK, but it's pretty rubber-bandy when I'm driving trains.
from little experience i had with satisfactory servers, single core performance > all
basically yes
if you want to host several on the same machine lots of really fast cores
but for just one you could do that with a fast dual core I think

Running Centos8 and downloaded AMP (can run in containers) and it takes me 10 seconds to spin up a new server (excluding setting up port forwarding) 10/10 would recommend
hello, need some help please, got a satisfactory server thru gportal and got it connected thru server manager however it says server name pending not authenticated and wont let me move on from this point\
just says that this server appears to be offline

the 2 messages you sent are contradictory, you got a message and then it says offline. I've found if I keep my server tab open for a while it'll show up as offline again. You have to click (double click?) and you need to name it and then it'll ask you to create an admin password
this is what it shows atm, it accepted the server id and port and does nothing after that
Never mind, I figured it out, for those that run into this issue, the port number in the access block is the wrong port number, don't know why they give it, the actual port number is under server name at the top of the screen right behind the IP.
I would be cautious with third party antivirus software. I had McAfee installed on my Windows dedicated server. I went through and allowed all the ports through McAfee's firewall and was still unable to connect. I uninstalled it to test and once it was removed I was able to connect without issue. Just an idea for something to try.
McAfee sucks. You know they got caught years ago stealing Norton's code and were sued? Never trusted them again.
You can bypass McAfee in 5 minutes in .net
do you have to buy satisfactory on steam to access the dedicated server tool?

by running a dedicated server on my last 6 cores and the main gain the first 6

if your hosting for yourself and other makes sence if you want to do it that way for the 24/7 run/uptime
but if its just for yourself to say boost your performance in a solo game not so much
makes sense then but a diffent node/system would be better

just please follow the wiki completely if you do what it says it will work if you skip bits it wont lol

what software are you using?, also it states you need to add it at the top of the file. you have it on line 6 instead of line 1

I would say yes the wiki states first line so i would change it. though I cant confirm myself since I don't have more than 4 players playing.
any reason why a dedicated server would sudden kick out 2 players and show the server offline?
the server is running however, even after a reboot it stays offline

I just created a new server
with default settings
so it is EA
yet the client is ahead somehow?
EA and EXP have their own dedicated servers that match their versions.
would try and update the server, see if it finds anything
