is it normal for windows go haywire and eat all possible system disk (ssd) usage?
It can happen. Windows does Windows things
Windows updates or something similar happening.
Windows Modules Installer Worker.
Handles installing OS updates, OS features etc.
And the Patch Tuesday was last night.
So it was installing the latest updates that were just launched.
meanwhile, Ubuntu silently does updates and I can just thank it...
Yo is there anything I can do to the health bar to not cause burn in on my screen?
For games that don't allow selecting when HUD elements are shown, possibly mods, or getting anything other than OLED display.
From what I've seen you don't really need to worry with most modern OLED displays
They just hide it better until they run out of brightness headroom.
What modern OLEDs do, is track each individual subpixels usage, and have in-built model on how they degrade from that usage, compensating for the dimming by making same input drive the more worn OLED subpixels higher, so that the visible brightness is the same for same input.
Until the max brightness is reached and it has to dim less worn subpixels instead.
But as Diluted said, the brightness and pixel temperature have major non-linear impact on that wear rate.
is C just C++--

C++ is D?
C++-- = *&C
I found something new. A trend.
I got a website with games. Pure games. And they have a F.A.Q.
In those F.a.Q. are the most random things.
THis question is "Do you have school compulsory education if you are 16"
And then you get this AI generated bullshit underneath it.
This question is "Can you bend wood".
So they have all these random questions and answers, just in the hope they get higher in SEO, and get more trafick on their website.
Anmd that format of "Bold question" -> answer and ⚠️ I see a lot on different websites. Which makes me believe it's AI generated.

Yeah. I jinxed it.
This past week, I have encountered 10 websites in that format. Now that I am actively trying to find them again. I can't 🤣
I run satisfactory on the radeon 680m igpu
Can satisfactory run on linux? if so does it have to be on a specific distribution
Id say thats a little different since theres a difference between a iGPU built to be good vs built to be a worthless backup at most
What is your definition of devices designed for gaming?
PC's weren't made for gaming purely. It just got to the point, gaming became so popular, that it is it's own thing now I believe.
And when a manufacturer really focuses on a laptop for gaming, it;'s hard to say the device is not designed towards that.
As you should 😄 Was just wondering what you were discussing.
Laptops not being made for gaming? Steamdeck?
Depends on the games I guess. But if your games do run on low settings. Than it suits for you.
It's the subjective part.
maybe POE2 isn't optimized (yet)? Because that's another factor in the whole story.
tiny rant; I am still pissed off POE developers are so stubborn not to introduce a INGAME market.
- We got AI. But if I want to sell items. I have to refresh a fucking website to look for an item.
Then I have to go to a hideaout with some bot. Make sure I don't get ripped off.
Really? Ingame? 🙏
Because POE1 was scamming us a lot.
They put in an exalt orb and then tried to change it right before the trade and hope you click accept etc.
And it was just bots bots bots.
If you priced something too cheap, within seconds you get DM spammed. (Which to me was the clue, "Aha, I enter it too cheap") 🤣
Sorry 😄 Poe 1 PTSD.
Also, anyone notice the sudden UE5 hate?
Are people slowly waking up from the PR side of UE5. I get a lot of "negative" videos around UE5 in my feed lately.
And I haven't really looked for it besides guides and tutorials when working in UE5 environment.
That sounds amazing. Still, convoluted.
But I know the developer by now. He stubborn, old school and want to do things his way (which is fine).
Most would just implement a market place
but I guess theyw want the player to still do something actively (walking to hideout with boots) when it comes to trading.
Instead of opening a marketplace UI, putting the boots in there and be done with it.
Yeah, and POE1 stash etc carries over to 2. My main issue is the feature creep the game has. And the lack of a marketplace.
And this. Monetization.
Might give it a try. Not sure. I will wait for development to finish.
I can 100% understand that.
Every league adds a mechanic. And those mechanics carry over the next league. So eventually you have all these different mechanics layering on top of eachother.
Interesting NL voted for: NIS2 for companies, it's the law now to enforce NIS2.
Now the question is. How do you enforce that law.
Or is it a retroactive law.
Company A got a data breach.
Goverment looks into it and see they didn't apply NIS2.
Company A gets fined by goverment?
Ah sorry, the netherlands. (bad habbit of mine).
If the punishment outweighs the cost of auditors; a lot of companies will pay to be audited against the law
seeing crafton kicked out the door from subnautica 2 feels great
granted i pretty sure krafton is still the publisher temporaily but there esentially trying to kick them out brute force
Krafton still owns Unknown Worlds, and no attempt to change that seem to be part of the lawsuits.
So very unlikely to change.
The deadline for the bonus calculations was moved to September 2026.
Gill got the CEO post and operational control back, but the ownership is still with Krafton.
Gotta be a lovely work environment
Obvious the ceo is back and not happy with krafton, considering they were removed without actual justification. So naturally when they got back onto that steam page, krafton remaining the publisher had to go first
Love to see krafton getting what it deserves for sure😇
i hope they push to seperate later once the initial lawsuit settles finally
i wouldent be surprised if they try because the original subnautica is now also published under unknown worlds and not krafton
same for bellow zero
Unknown worlds doing house cleaning finally😇
from the No Shit department of news
ok i have a question about PSUs
if one's been unplugged for like a year, would it be "safe" to pop it open to swap out its fan?
Probably, capacitors would usually be discharged by that length of time
is krafton the company that fired like half of their staff in favor of using AI or something?
Yep ai first
Dont have exact numbers but ai slopification is at work
They fired the original founders to not have to pay them out asking AI for legal advice in the process instead of there actual legal team
Overall just a joke of a company
sad thing is there is some legit use for AI/LLMs
but tech companies push it to replace artists
PSU was completely fine last time i used that pc, the only issue was its fan screaming bloody murder because i had transplanted it inverted into a new case
could honestly probably operate just fine without a fan at all considering all it's doing is running a 2600X/1660S
also i inverted it so that it'd be intaking filtered air straight from the inside of the case instead of the stupid inaccessible bottom filter
cocaine was/is a painkiller, but dumbasses magically managed to find some alternative uses for it
Yes, that is how the cocaine be
it's still used occasionally as a local anaesthetic
and was a lot of fun during my pharmacy tech course
Instead LLMs are used for legal advise
We weren't allowed to talk about Schedule I substances
but cocaine and methamphetamine are both Schedule II
I sure love how uses for LLMs, all seem to boil down to, how do we do things, in the worst ways possible
100%
my use is "do i sound like a sane, rational person with this statement"
basically grammarly with context lmao
also shitposts, it's great at shitposts
would love for every bar association to add in an immediate disbarment clause for using AI in official proceedings and documentation
especially considering all of them are fucking scrambling to label it all as "for entertainment purposes only"
ok, new dumb question
new dumb answer
is it dumb to set up 3 of my fans on a custom bracket thingy that links them together, and then magnetically mount them to the fish tank side exhaust, so that all i have to do to clean both them & the radiator is just yank it loose
idfk lmao
Its all so stupid and after pushing for business use and then whoops its for fun only guys🤦♂️
Seriously this ai crap has gotten so dumb you cant make this up
def not a bubble
Yes clearly no bubble
Safe after few days.
should i wear rubber gloves just to be extra paranoid
No.
It is just about the AC voltage main cap.
But capacitors discharge internally pretty fast when not powered anymore.
So right after unplugging, that cap will still have full AC voltage in it, but that dimishes fast once unplugged.
And after year, absolutely no chance to have charge.
Rubber gloves would just make it more likely you cause ESD damage to the PSU instead.
Unfortunately no.
Usually some form of two-pin, or direct solder.
Need to splice with the old fan cables in most cases.
oh ew
well, i'll take a look
might not be worth it
it's like a 550W 7 year old unit
Usually no, except then overtemperature protection if exists shutting the PSU down.
hello, i need some help with my current problem. hope someone tech-savy in here could point me to the right direction
recently when i came home from work, the circuit breaker was off. i left the pc on while i was away
when i reset the circuit breaker, i turned the pc on, but nothing was showing on the display
after a lot of troubleshooting, i narrowed it down to the gpu
replaced the gpu with an older one, and the pc was starting without a hitch
the pc is around 2yo and never had these kinds of problems with the gpu
the psu is a Seasonic Prime TX-1600, so i doubt it's a low power thing
but when i plug in the new gpu, the fans do turn on
i know everything points to the gpu being dead...but is it?
i don't have another pc to try and plug it in for tests
is there anything else i could do to check if the new gpu is dead?
sorry for the text wall
just kind of frustrated and desperate here
Multimeter between the power connector ground and power pins in resistance mode.
But that basically says that there is short in the GPU when PSU does that.
Most likely VRM stage blew and shorted, and probably killed the GPU die with overvoltage at the same time.
is that adressed to me?
Yes
hmm, i an not that tech savy... so i am not sure where those pins are. also i am not sure i would be able to open the gpu without breaking it
Not worth it.
High-quality PSU not starting with GPU cables connected with one GPU, but does with second tells there is almost certainly a dead short and the short circuit protection or overcurrent protection of the PSU is tripping.
but the fans do turn fine...so are fans on a separate circuit?
this is what confused me
Ah, so the computer does try to turn on.
Missed that line, that part of the system responds.
But then the thing would be to try that GPU in another system if possible.
And multimeter helps nothing anyways.
no, i meant the gpu's fans do run and turn
the pc itself does turn on each time
it just stops when trying to connect to the gpu
with a motherboard error stuck at 97
which seems to be the step for gpu connection
Yes, and that was what I misunderstood and missed.
Thinking the PSU doesn't really turn on at all for some reason.
Missed the line.
So PSU powers the system fine, and no shorts or like.
But just non-communicating GPU.
So less catastrophic failure.
yes
so does the diagnostic change?
i mean, the gpu is kind of good and after 2...wait it's now 3 years
i doubt i can use the warranty, and given the current gpu prices...
If still in warranty, then probably can.
But you might either be out of it, if 2 years or less warranty, or just on the edge if 3 year one.
yeah, going to try and contact the seller...
yeah, i was hoping i wouldn't have to replace the gpu because i am honestly not sure i could even find another unit
At least in EU, GPUs are in good supply with about normal prices.
from a quick search, the one i have has almost doubled in price
Old model.
Last units being scalped for higher price to those who absolutely cannot upgrade to newer one.
Yeah, not without going to 5090, which cost 3k or more.
Might be again in next gen AMD GPUs once they come out.
But that is 6-12 months away.
7900:s didn't get replacements this AMD gen.
this might sound dumb, but have you tried a different DP/HDMI output? sometimes there's a short there that's killed just the port and having something plugged into it will cause a boot loop
JTC intentionally fried a gpu and it did exactly that
Disgruntled hacker drops second zero-day Windows Defender exploit just hours after Microsoft patches first one
A vindictive security researcher has publicly dropped a second Windows Defender privilege escalation exploit, less than two weeks after Microsoft scrambled to plug the first one. The vigilante is threatening to start releasing even more dangerous remote code execution exploits because Microsoft “mopped the floor with me.”
From the dev:
It's way too funny. When Windows Defender realizes that a malicious file has a cloud tag, for whatever stupid and hilarious reason, the antivirus that’s supposed to protect decides that it is a good idea to just rewrite the file it found again to its original location. The PoC abuses this behavior to overwrite system files and gain administrative privileges,
🤣
hmmm, might try that when i have time. would be nice if it's only that
the 9070 xt outclasses the 7900xt in everything but vram, and the 7900XTX is barely better in rasterisation, so i'd say they did get replacements, not upgrades though tbf
Doesn't remove the fact that 9070:s are 7800 replacements, and 7900 replacements didn't come, in the stack.
Which explains the RAM downgrade etc.
if we compare to nvidia's product stack, then it's totally a 7900xt replacement
although, on the specs sheet, it is a next gen 7800XT
And the point of my original message was why there isn't currently any AMD GPU with over 16GB of VRAM, and that might change with next gen again.
hopefully we'll see that
MLID's leaks did picture a promising 10900xtx
and i would love to see a sub 400W flagship
is there a reliable website to check hashes of windwos system files ?
Don't know.
Really annoying that MS doesn't sign them all...
Ok, they have since added separate signature catalogs for them that contain SHA256 hashes of files.
So in theory you could now check that the signature catalogs have been signed correctly, and then compare the contained hashes to the files.
Doing it manually via every files Properties is just useless for more than few files.
Windows SDK has utility named Signtool that can do those verification checks for files against the signature catalogs with various options.
@languid gulch nope, changing the gpu's outputs didn't do anything. seems the gpu is dead or something broke.
the one thing that annoys me is that the fans do work for some reason.
but there is no light turning on on the gpu along the rest of the pc.
i am tempted to open the gpu to see if i can fix anything, but before that i will wait for the reseller to tell me if i still have a warranty to use
while i wait....the ole reliable 1080 ti will have to be pulled out of retirement
the fans will always work since they just need power lol
unless the card was unpowered entirely or the power rails melted or something insane fans generally always work at one speed or another
yea, definitely a shit situation to be in
had a psu blow on me about a year ago, somehow it didn't take anything with it
to be fair its not supposed to kill everything along side it if the protectiosn work properly
true, but it seems like something usually gets taken out
yea and i dont blame the psu makers since if something is worn out enough to fail in the normal chain of stuff than so can be the protections
Are there by chance any wired earbuds with anc?
Finally made the jump and moved my last machine over to linux!
🥳
So glad I jumped to Linux
Don't have to deal with the random crap of windows 11
Today I was supporting someone at work and there's a new bug on teams
Right click paste no longer works in Teams :D
This is a new bug, only a couple days old
Oh thats fun
I've had my work machine on Linux for a few years and I have a small homelab
But now I moved my last pc over!

This is crazy if this becomes a federal law💀
The actual document isnt out so we don't know exactly how bad this is, but so far it isnt looking good
Oh god not this guy
you know what? absolutely. 100%. force everyone to register. include an RFID implant so we can scan ourselves in
maybe also have a QR code tattoo over it
somewhere where it's easy to log in from, like your forearm
I watched like 1 of this guys videos before
Later in my recommended got another from him that's was like "WOKE attacking FOSS ANTIFA Trump"
but on the inside of your forearm so that it's not always visible

also be sure to put in language in the legislation that makes sure to mention things like "this historically large expansion of government into homes, at the expense of taxpayers"
We gotta make our state surveillance fashionable
Can't have it too visible, just easily accessible
sorry, i like to needle to absolute fuck out of everyone with things that aren't inherently political, but have a political history that's impossible to ignore
Yep just like a remembered
These are recent live streams
i love the people who refuse to understand that when they call something a "leak", they're confirming its real existence
Oh i guess i dont watch to many of this guys video, unless its something that seems interesting, like this new federal law designed increase government surveillance on everyone
Wtf💀
Yeah that's how I stumbled onto them just a random video about a random topic
Then I went to their channel
Wait is this person unhinged and i just didnt watch enough videos to notice
Yerp
Odd they seemed normal in some of these videos but now i have to question it
that's how they draw you in
I wouldn't be surprised if some of this stuff slightly leaks into other videos they make but they make a shit ton of videos so some of them just don't ever touch the unhinged stuff
Ahhh
Minimum 1 video a day
Sometimes more
slow burn
incremental introduction of the crazy
then it's a smaller & smaller jump to the truly batshit
Running satisfactory on Mac, you want to know more @ me
totally forgot about that 🤦♂️
"I think that everyone that watched it might have noticed that there was no MEP that wasn't responding positively. Even the [European] Commission was pretty positive I'd say."
On the iGPU? I'm curious how it handles "vram" usage,
Same as any other IGP?
M4 mini 16Gb it runs at around 9ish gb
It can go up with more fauna
So system ram? That's interesting
Like any other IGP.
Yeah, but not all of them can handle the vram requirements, hence why i find it interesting
Just depends on how much RAM you have.
8GB RAM and you will need to keep the saves very small even with Low textures, 16GB or RAM and no problems for most part.
My (quite shitty to be fair) laptop's is hard capped to 2GB as far as i can tell
My shitty iGPU can handle the loading scene at a decent fps
And that depends on the amount of system ram you have
Ram isn't my issue on my laptop, how much vram it can use is most likely the issue
Wow they got mixed up
That is just the dedicated RAM as VRAM.
They then use more as needed dynamically.
That is just allocation that cannot be used by CPU as RAM at all.
All the other RAM can also be used as VRAM if free.
No, it is hard capped on thid iGPU
Cannot use more than 2048MB of system ram as vram
Not since 15+ years ago.
It is just listed as Shared Video Memory in Task Manager etc.
2012 was less than 15 years ago
The iGPU in question is the hd4000
On a laptop with a sata ssd, and 16GB of ddr3l
Yes, that should have been able to use rest of the RAM as needed as Shared VRAM.
In addition to that Dedicated VRAM allocation.
Like this, that Dedicated is what is set in BIOS, and that Shared is then half of rest of the RAM in this case.
What exactly tells you you can actually unlock the amount of ram it can use as vram? My research told me otherwise
Basic thing since forever, and I actually used 4th gen Intel with that IGP for long time and it was using shared (V)RAM fine.
Became first a thing during AGP times with limited amount being usable for dGPUs.
And later became basic thing usually up to that half of RAM with dynamic allocation, for both IGPs and dGPUs.
I'm not on haswell, haswell uses hd4400 or 4600, i'm on ivy lake mobile
Gen 7.0 vs. Gen 7.5. No major changes.
Laptop or desktop?
Doesn't matter.
The feature set depends on that IGP generation.
Not possible for laptop maker to disable.
But it's possible for intel
Well i can't even set the dedicated memory amount on mine so i doubt that
Because that is setting that needs to be exposed.
It isn't, but it isn't exposed exactly because it doesn't really matter, because of that dynamic allocation.
Do you have any way i can benchmark that?
Just check that Task Manager Performance tab entry for the IGP?
It reports what the IGP driver reports.
Task manager isn't a benchmark
I've never managed to make it use more than .8 GB
Maybe a tad more when i was launching satisfactory, in the few seconds it would manage to not crash
But i'm yet to see any proof this thing can use more than 2GB, might have seen 1.5 for a split second
Because you are probably using softwares to monitor that that only look for the use of that Dedicated part, because they have been coded for dGPUs.
Where for dGPU, using RAM as extension is slow.
For IGP it is same speed as the dedicated part.
Which is why I said to check that Task Manager entry.
Are you actually telling me that your "proof" is just task manager? Seriously?
That is the basic sanity check, before I tell how to actually test.
Because that testing needs that anyways.
The software i use is afterburner, and i seriously doubt it wouldn't show dynamic ram allocation when it shows paging file use
If you could tell me allat now i'd appreciate it, i won't be anywhzre near my pc before Sunday
It would be separate entry if it was there.
At least not shown by default, don't know if configurable.
Not going to install to check.
To be fair, i don't recall seing usage above the vram size on my 3080
But the idea is to just have something that actually shows both dedicated, and shared, VRAM usage open, and run something.
And you will almost certainly see that shared usage jump up, while leaving significant amount of the dedicated part free.
That only gets used once the RAM starts to run out for the system.
Because that VRAM usage in Afterburner shows that Dedicated VRAM usage reported by the GPU driver.
And doesn't include that Shared VRAM usage.
Like with basically any other VRAM usage monitoring software.
The ones that even have support for showing shared VRAM usage as second entry are very few.
Actually, i'm pretty sure i've seen over 10240 MBs, but i'd need to double check, might have been 10170 and not 10700
Then how do yiu explain me using 800 MB while being far from running iut of system ram (on basically every game that is somewhat playable, lost tecently poppy playtime and portal)
That was the point, that the IGP/driver only uses that dedicated part up to certain percentage, then uses shared RAM after that, until RAM starts to run out and it starts to use rest of the dedicated part.
Sounded to me liek it was a whole lot more than nearly half of it
Actually high settings with dlss and frame gen
it literally cant be
it just says that to not overdoo it on the usage since it uses that as a point of reference for what a good target is but if it deems justified it will go over all day long
iv seen 17GB/12GB on my 4070ti because of shared ram doing its literal purpose
just because you dont do anything good enough to trigger it it makes a big impact whenever it does kick in
generally only kicks in at high resolutions tho since thats when your most limited by vram
My issue with that is that it's relying on task manager
I'd love to see a benchmark where the benchmark itself tells you how much vram and shared mem it's using
thats called 3D mark cause nothing reports shared ram
hence why task manager is the only source
I don't get much hype around quantum computers after understanding just how limited their abilities are, at least in the near future.
but,
if only we could manage to use quantum entanglement without destroying it
if there was a way to exploit it beyond just measuring one particle and knowing what's with the other
that would be an incredibly neat way of communicating
Only thing I found interesting ishttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_cryptography
Quantum cryptography is the science of exploiting quantum mechanical properties such as quantum entanglement, measurement disturbance, no-cloning theorem, and the principle of superposition to perform various cryptographic tasks. Historically defined as the practice of encoding messages, a concept now referred to as encryption, quantum cryptogra...
It would help with space travel a ton
Another interesting idea is Ted Chiang's Anxiety is the Dizziness of Freedom (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anxiety_Is_the_Dizziness_of_Freedom)
"Anxiety Is the Dizziness of Freedom" is a science fiction novella by American writer Ted Chiang, initially published in the 2019 collection Exhalation: Stories. The novella's name quotes a proverb by Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard (1813–1855) in his work The Concept of Anxiety (1844). An abridged version of the novella was also publish...
that's not a scientifically proven application for quantum computing tho
Just a sci-fi novel spun around one mechanic of quantum physics
As for space travel, no clue how that's related to quantum computing either but I don't know enough to rule it out either
Don't confuse quantum mechanics with quantum computing.
One is a field of physics with several theories and mechanics, one is a real world application of some mechanics from that field (partly applied to computer science)
Well to be fair, both are intertwined (mechanics vs computing).
But I don't know which are theories anymore, and which are actually being applied in real life.
The Quantum Crytpgraphy, as I understand, is something I think most governments and law enforcements fear.
Since it claims it can't be intcercepted. But then again, I wonder if we can eventually use it for encryption of chat messages etc.
Which would be a HUGE boost to being annonymous on the internet. And probably used by criminals anyway.
The number 1 cryptography issue with quantum computing isn't encryption, it's decryption.
The standard algorithms work based on prime pairs and solving that encryption is infinitely easier for quantum computers.
As for encryption, there have already been several algorithms developed which quantum computers won't have an advantage at solving - exactly for that reason.
Governments rely on secure communications too and criminals aren't the only ones who want to shroud their communication from foreign actors (journalists, whistleblowers, political activists)
You also can't protect against communication being intercepted, but strong encryption will ensure that whoever intercepted the message won't be able to read it within any realistic amount of time
He was talking about kind of quantum communication where intercepting breaks entanglement
In October 2019, a machine sitting inside a refrigerated chamber in California performed a calculation in 200 seconds that the most powerful classical supercomputer on Earth would have needed 10,000 years to complete. The engineers who built it could explain how it worked. But nobody in the wider world stopped to ask the deeper question. Where d...
Communication based on entanglement hasn't been implemented for all I know.
Just a theory by some sci-fi nerds to create faster-than-light transmission of data
Nah that's a different one.
That requires special lines of communication. It's not ftl, and specifically aim to make interception easy to detect (or even breaking the message?)
And for all i remember, new successful concept tests have been popping for about a decade now
Wait. Whaaat?
The whole point is, that if observed, it collapses. So in theory, the encryption, or the communication/data cannot be observed by any external parties.
If one attempts to read the encoded data, the quantum state will be changed due to wave function collapse (no-cloning theorem).
This could be used to detect eavesdropping in QKD schemes, or in quantum communication links and networks.
As such quantum cryptography is a critical component in the advancement of a quantum internet, as it establishes robust mechanisms to ensure the long-term privacy and integrity of digital communications and systems.
Not sure if the wikipage is fanfiction but that's what it says.
we need to bait those ai companies to make quantum ai so it disapears as soon as it is used
Another recent thing on topic
Phys.org/news/2026-04-quantum-bottleneck-wide-channels.html
(bruh link bot hates tech news)
Also shit my previous one got deleted
It already has too many probabilities involved
That thing is real
But imho the great part would discovering ability to use entanglement without breaking it, making possibility for long distance communication.
What's the problem scientist face when it comes to long distance communication?
Old people try to prove it's just hidden variable despite every new experiment proving them wrong
Aka non-locality vs locality
Entanglement suggests non-locality, "spooky" action regardless of distance
Some try to prove that's wrong, saying that other must prove it's not local, that there isn't some hidden variable that just gets revealed later
But in practice, nobody managed to re-use entanglement, aka measure state, change state and measure it again, as far as I know
I should sell my old car and buy this so I can freak out/troll my evil neighbour
you definitely should, lol
For that price it's ugly AF.
Anyone know any good (preferably free) chiptune VST plugins with a bunch of presets for common sounds heard in old chiptune music? Been looking for something easy to use that would be sort of a one-and-done type solution
Rather than having to assemble my own from scratch
Is it me or pictures a bit deceiving for a 123 tall robot?
Like perspective stuff.
And camera low to ground.
Yeah, the one on the website looks like a toy model lol
Also, 1k to send.
I mean between 300-1200. Which is still a lot of money just for shipping costs.
It's not about the money. It's about sending a message
To my neighbour: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/FPEkwIgOxDA
Although it's a WIP, at least it can wield a katana lol
If you actually called the police here claiming a robot is chasing you a katana, you would most likely be charged for "false report"
Because police gets so many false reports and prank calls they will assume you are messing with them
Only in this case it would be a real report
arent they not allowed to refuse a call
granted unless you call like 8 times a day every day and are clearly wasting there time
People here abused this rule and made false bomb reports for shopping centers
Police had to evacuate shopping centers all the time even though they knew the report was almost likely fake
Guess if you call about a robot chasing you help isnt coming
Until real life deaths by killer robots
No really seeing these videos of what robots can start to do does make me question that police maybe need to start taking these calls more seriously
At least they have proven to be good in chasing wild boars
https://youtu.be/hEsGe5WiiZQ?is=74e5t3bonqMDn0RT
A viral video shows a humanoid robot chasing wild boars in the Polish capital Warsaw. The hero of the video published Sunday is Edward Warchocki, a humanoid robot turned Polish influencer. Edward is a Unitree 1 robot produced in China, whose bubbly personality is a Polish creation.

ok, dumb tech question time
is it possible to have 2 GPUs in a system (with hopefully enough CPU cores to do this), and have different games running in vram on each of the GPUs
In theory, if one of the games supports GPU selection.
Unreal Engine does via launch argument for example.
And Windows has a way to suggest software which GPU to use.
how would the outputs work under that circumstance, would i run another cable from the 2nd GPU?
Mostly same as with any current multi-GPU, final frames being copied as bitmap over PCIe to the GPU with display connected.
Rendering GPU and displaying GPU haven't needed to be the same for long time now, for most part.
Way too much hassle to be worth it for most part, but in theory possible with some caveats depending on the exact games.
yea
ngl i only asked because i can run my mmo and one of my newer games at the same time with this system, but not both of my newer games
my modded ksp currently sucks up almost all of my vram
the real question: would i be able to pull this off with both an nvidia & radeon
Yes. You can run AMD and Nvidia GPUs (and IGPs) in same computer at same time.
Ditching my iPhone and getting galaxy S25 soon
I just don't like iPhone tbh
I could buy other phones but I am planning to get a phone through my company as a benefit since I would only pay €200 instead of €700
what's always so sad is that iphones would basically be the sole phone on the planet if they dropped the stupid walled garden and made them more compatible with non-apple products
@twin dew sorry to ask you, you're the only one around that i know who know his computer stuff
this is the second time in a couple of days that my laptop suddently shuts off, the power cable light turns off too for a couple of seconds then turns back on and I can turn the computer back on. There were capacitor noises. Do you know what could this be a symptom off? Could it be just the power charger or is the mb dying?
I opened the laptop and battery seemed in good health
precision: it's not overheating because that second time I literally had just mozilla open
Does the computer run just on the battery without external power?
If yes, then the charger shouldn't matter to thing like that.
no it's almost always plugged in and it was the case in both cases
But point was to determine if it can run on just the battery.
Or if it needs charger to even run.
When the battery is dead and doesn't hold any charge.
Separate from ballooning.
ooh no it can run on the battery
And AFAIK capacitors don't make any noise, except if they pop and get destroyed.
Coils can whine.
But no, not something I'm able to diagnose remotely with my experience.
I see, thanks for your time!
Dang, where'd you get the legs for it?
/j
If you can reproduce it reliably, you can try setting up a video recording to show it to helpers like us.
But if there really are capacitors popping or stuff's arcing, then please please please put your personal safety first and get it repaired/replaced.
Don't push your luck with electrical safety, shit's scary as FUCK
I'll take the safety words of fireworker2000 serisously haha
I don't think I can reproduce it reliably, both times were very random
Ironically, my interests in fireworks and PCs/tech are unrelated aside from me being neurodivergent
Can you even say if the noises have come from the power brick, or the laptop?
yea yea we know your experiences in the back rooms of the shop
But yeah, I've had some seriously bad experiences with improper fireworks safety (mainly poorly secured displays tipping over and shooting sideways)
As for electricity, none yet, aside from teenage me grabbing an electric cattle fence as part of a dare
I WOULD be leaning to say they came from the power connector but really not sure
Why does this sound familiar? 🤣
I might've talked about it in the past
I mean, I actually did one mistake as a kid in the past
but yea definitly the laptop
Or it's just a common occurrence with people who are interested in figuring shit out
Put a rocket in a pot and the rocket tipped because of the wind 😅
But I was a dumb kid back then
Honestly tho, I could not tell you what I'd be less willing to fuck around with, live fireworks or live electricity.
Not because of me not knowing the dangers, but moreso me not knowing how badly I'd fuck around with either
Fireworks are more dangerous imo because of low-quality ones
Take a champagne bottle, fill it up to a third with sand, use that for a launchpad
Following safety protocols might not be enough if the fireworks are poor
Alternatively, take a beer crate and enough bottles to fill it, use the bottle to weigh it down (fill them with water or sand if they're empty), use the holes in the middle to stabilize rocket launches
Oh, yeah, 100%
No BAM, no boom.
BAM being Germany's Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing.
Each item of fireworks legally being sold in Germany has to display a BAM number which verifies that that product has passed BAM safety testing.
fitting acronym
Most dangerous are firecrackers with premature explosion due to poor quality
You could easily loose your hand
Kinda. With firecrackers, I like to light a few of them from a distance:
Lay them down on the ground, take a step back, lean forwards to light fuse, immediately step back.
Gives me a rough idea of how short the fuse is and whether or not I am willing to risk lighting them in my hand
Tho I've stopped lighting loud explosive fireworks a few years ago after seeing how absolutely scared the family dog was
I would consider the largest part of that danger to come from the likeliness of the issue, not the severity of the damage.
A display tipping over and firing sideways or a rocket launching diagonally into making a nosedive are MUCH more dangerous in terms of the damage they can do
Here fireworks often leads to horses in the barbwire etc.
And now it's forbidden in my country. Too much animals panicking, stressing etc. And for what?
i'm glad my roof is concrete shingles
I think there was even a city here, that started to do laser shows. So still pretty lights in the sky, without the boom boom.
drone shows are great
I am a big fan of drones tbh. In the sense of recent/modern advancements that took track.
we finally got our first official one this year
I notice more and more sport events use drones for nice shots. Which I like. Better than a helicopter.
Then it's easier for law enforcement to search for people with drones. Again, better than helicopter.
And as Cuyar mentioned, drones can also do light shows. Alternative to fireworks.
i remember they kept trying to do those cameras on cables over the fields & they kept falling. idk how nobody ever died during a game from one of those
Oh, yes I've seen those too. In NFL.
4 bit number display we made in class
Last week
0000 = 0, 0001 = 1, 0010 = 2, you know the drill
Weird to have that Arduino there, when that could be replaced with just bunch of diodes and resistors...
Controlling the 7-segment driver directly with the DIP in exact same way.
Depending on the driver, even the resistors wouldn't be needed, just diodes to prevent backflow.
Ah, sorry, wouldn't work like that, would need some gates too for logical operations.
Brain didn't brain.
My frc team qualified for worlds and I plan to volunteer to help run the event🎉
fun
Probably meant to be an educational programming exercise, combining binary encoding with a basic coding exercise in an environment that can be scaled to more complex implementations
Yes
Wait till you find out samsung copied apple and started charging their phone accessories like they are made from gold
€49 for a phone case on official samsung store.....
No thanks, I will rather buy a €15 case from Amazon
Bought one for iPhone (it was around €11) and it's quite sturdy
Correction: everyone started copying apple strategy where they charge a lot for official accessories and earn a lot of money from it
Kinda how printer companies earn more money from cartridges than from printers
At least they dont have the gated community bullshit
I bought a leather phone case for my mother's phone and it's still going strong without any damage
Buying official phone cases is not worth it imo
iv been wondering for a while but WTF is making these massive smooches in my monitors despite nothing physically ever touching the screen
they disappear when the screen is on but when lit just right when there off you see these and i have no idea what they are
Anyway the actual reason i respawned is cause before i started making my keyboard i actually ordered some GN mouse mats and they came in a few days ago
I don’t really have any complaints outside of them being pretty rugged so there definitely static generators
are you left handed?
no why?
from the first picture it looked like you had it set up for a left handed mouse
i have it setup to protect the desk lol
i put stuff like drinks and metal objects that love to scratch the paint since the desk is actually white
That keyb is for my second pc i dont use much im still using my original mouse pad for my main mouse and keyboard since its mostly black it dosent wear down from the constant movement of the mouse
very cool looking
More than 5 years of daily use and its spotless still
Honestly i could left hand a mouse just right handing a keyboard seems miserable
which is why i use a right handed mouse
arduino :o

Is there a name for a high power low uptime fridge
Something like a mini fridge for storing drinks, except since drinks don't go bad it'd be a waste of energy to have it on 24/7
Saw it on a cooking show once
If it can get them cool within 30mins-1hour or something
Yea
do you happen to know the name then
"The [something] freezer is not a reverse microwave"
No idea it was a while ago
Reverse microwave sounds like exactly what I'd want xd
Lol
stupid question time: can you mix keyboard switches
Yeah, I believe I saw somebody using different switches for wasd and the keys around it (lower actuation for gaming) somewhere
yea, new keyboard is a bit on the clacky side, which is fine, but my old one is the same model, different switches that were a lot quieter

I'm going with the obvious conclusion, most ai companies are heading for clear bankruptcy, cost, scalability issues, etc, most of it easily meets most reasonable definitions of unsustainable, openai, etc being clear examples of business models are clearly arent going to work
And yet, most of those companies that will go bankrupt have bought all of the RAM supplies and caused price increase....
All for nothing
It was to power nvidias instagram filter, that isnt for nothing right
it was yet more international, multi-industry fraud perpetuated by the people who have benefitted the most from it
they've known it's a bubble since the start, and duped a ton of idiots into thinking that somehow this time would be different
the worst part is that those people will never see a day in prison or lose a dime of their scammed gains
Keyboard tapping sounds
Its like what we did with crypto but we are doing with ai this time, lets hope nobody is paying attention
OpenAI didn't even buy any RAM.
They have piece of paper that says they might buy some RAM at future date.
Its more like buying azure cloud computing credit, that then buys a piece of paper that say it might buy more ram capacity in the future
Not even that.
No money has changed hands, and there is no actual requirement on either side for anything.
And its not even like that, because microsoft loans openai that credit, so its just a circle
Right so this is all just illusions
There was no RAM wafer shortage.
Just market that didn't read what was actually signed and acted irrationally.
With the RAM makers pulling everyones legs with prices charged.
The microsoft is basically footing the bill via azure, question is how long ms wants to keep the game going
Acting like OpenAI has actual binding purchase agreement
Lets pretend openai isnt losing 83 million per day
This is going to end well right?
They already cancelled lot of actual contracts for new build datacenters.
Which caused the RAM price bubble to start popping.
But that hasn't made to consumer prices yet.
I heard about that, apparently alot of that ended up only being promises, not actual legal binding agreements on those datacenters, and many of them are being cancelled for many obvious reasons
Letters of Intent.
Also heard ram makers were hoarding the ram stock, for demand that didnt actually exist, and are left holding the bag, i feel no pity
Or was it the next step, Memorandum of Understanding.
at least half of datacenters are effectively cancelled already
Basically they rushed to try to put datacenters online without even having the basic infrastructure to support it, these people are true morons
well to be expected, this is a bubble so of course the morons would be coming out in full swing, trying to get these projects off the ground and in scales that cant realistically happen either....
Everyone else was announcing datacenters, so everyone rushed to do so also.
To not get left behind.
Even when no-one had actual use for those datacenters.
Just that everyone thought the AI market would explode and if they didn't have the processing power ready, they would be left in the dust by those that did.
left behind, well those that did....
95% of corporations are seeing zero return on ai
this is just to funny, cancelled data centers, all of this money spent, most corporations are seeing no return, its perfect storm of bullshit
at this point with ai its like watching a train wreck in progress
or they were never actually planned by these companies, just announced to be planned, trying to pass the speculative investment losses 1 more line down the chain before they get stuck with it
reminds me of insurance companies in the early 2000s investing in housing market losses because they all fuckin knew it was a bubble about to pop
OpenAI has pulled out of most of their "Stargate" datacenter deals, leaving other companies that actually build the buildings trying to scramble new customers for the spaces...
they won't find them, at least not another company that'll be doing AI
there's a reason the investors with 2 brain cells either never bothered to invest in AI, or have already cashed out
Got a new smart power meter for solar power plant installed
There is also a reset switch in case I go over 13,8 kw
set up a giant van de graff generator for overflow
My coworker lives in an apartment building and he has to reset the meter all the time because apartment buildings only have like 3,6 kw
And you can easily go over 3,6 kw if you have an electric oven and air conditioners turned on at the same time
twitch is really weird lately
like half the content is ai generated, it's really weird
ya, we got that on the weekend. There is threats of that this week too

i was told to talk about it here, im wondering peoples experiences with linux on higher end gaming computers? do most things work on there (ARCh?) and if so, how different is it from windows? I know Debian is pretty similiar to windows, but not sure the performance gains are there when ive only ever used CL versions of linux as a hypervisor and then windows vms for servers.
i can weigh in come this weekend after i install. Mint was a pretty good experience. But im testing Distros atm
You select the desktop environment you want to use, and the base you want to use (Debian/Ubuntu, Fedora, Arch), and select subdistro that has that desktop environment.
With then also decision between rolling release vs. short cycles vs. long cycles distro.
Debian for example as is is pretty bad desktop distro, unless using Testing, as the release cycle is 2 years.
Base determines the CL side etc.
Desktop environment determines the GUI side.
I can give some experience here
I run kubuntu and debian for work and hobby related stuff
I've used both arch and bazzite for a gaming desktop(7800x3d, 9070xt)
Arch, in my experience, took a very significant amount of fiddling
Bazzite was a near-flawless experience. I have one hardware related sleep issue that I haven't been able to fix, but that also showed up on windows
So far, my entire steam library has been a near flawless experience and performance has been similar or better to windows. Playing on a 240hz qd-oled with freesync and vrr works great
1% lows are slightly better than windows. Average fps either went up or down by around 5%, depending on the game. Generally, I'd say the trend is towards an increase in performance over windows.
I haven't encountered any rendering issues or major bugs with linux. So far the only notable issue is that helldivers 2 crashes when someone joins my party if it is in fullscreen and in the background at the moment they join
Bazzite is generally pretty usable as a general desktop experience, but some more advanced use cases are more work than they would be on another distro
If you want to do a lot of power-user type work, a debian or arch based distro would be my reccomendation
I don't have any experience with Linux on gaming PCs cuz some of my most important games don't run on Linux and I can't be arsed running dual boot
okay, i appreciate that type up. Im not sure if i should try and switch to linux since there are somethings that wont run on linux (including a lot of games with anti cheats) so i think I would have to setup dualboot specifically for those games, and even then, ive read that those anticheats can sometimes flag you for dualboots
What anticheats are you talking about specifically?
Most games that don't use kernel-level anticheat are generally a safe bet
How's bazzite from a Linux user perspective?
I've heard that it's quite locked down and basically only intended as an easy way for gamers to switch over
Arc raiders works perfectly and valorant is a nonstarter, for example
More specifically: what games are they playing?
And how important are these games compared to the rest of their library?
Destiny 2 is fucked, Brotato runs like a charm
It is quite locked down in a lot of ways
They've made some improvements to it, but you really can't easily modify/tweak the OS beyond what's in the settings menu
A lot of the changes you make won't persist reboots(which is nice, makes it harder to break stuff), but it means that if you need to tweak something you generally need a ujust for it or you need to make a script that runs at startup and makes the change every time
For web browsing, word processing, and gaming, it's excellent
For software dev, probably not going to be a great experience
I'm a photographer, and I've been messing around with getting an image editing workflow going on bazzite like I have on kubuntu and that's been a bit of a pain as well
But, conversely, it does make some things easier
The built-in lutris integrations mean that running games from gog or itch.io is super simple and, in my experience, pretty foolproof
Mostly depends on your hardware.
You will have some problems with the latest stuff shortly after release. How quick it gets fixed depending on the distro.
GPU you will loose performance with nvidia, amd or Intel cards are mostly on par or better than windows.
Gaming generally works, as long as you dont play games with kernel level anti cheat. IMO the FPS are a bit lower but more stable.
Getting things running can be a bit of a hassle outside of steam, but doable once you know how.
intel is anything but on par but yea your only safe on AMD in therms of getting mostly your full performance
KLAC itself isn't the issue, some of them do support Linux.
Most however don't and when devs do use those that could work, they're too lazy to enable it
is there a good way to clear directx caches?
they take quite a big chunk on a disk
Disk Cleanup?
not the standard one. or rather not the one that comes first...
it says that directx cache is just 172Kb
isn't that too few?
when I do windirstat it shows 2 fodlers totaling ~14GB
Those are probably GPU driver caches.
That other is OS cache.
AMD has simple clear button in their software.
For Nvidia need to be manually deleted, or turning the global shader cache off, then back on.
this is a lot
AMD Software, Gaming, Graphics, Reset Shader Cache: Perform Reset
I never would have guessed going into 'gaming' for this
Same place as all the other global 3D related settings.
Yes, that Graphics used to be in different place, but was moved to same place as the per-game pages about year ago.
Had my first sinus and brain CT scan and saw the rotating magnet inside the CT device
Thought the scan takes 15 minutes but it only took literally 2 minutes. Medical technology has really advanced fast through recent years
ya its crazy awesome. I go for a brain scan every other year
I remember going to MRI scan 25 years ago as a kid and it took 2 eternal hours
Not to mention it was difficult for me as a kid to stay still
Funniest moment today was a radiologist telling me I don't need to remove a watch, keys, wallet or other metal items
I watched Final destination on Youtube and thought metal item restriction applies to CT scan too 🤣
CT is just 3D Roentgen
2 hours? 😮
Yeah, they expect a child to remain perfectly still for a long time. Didn't happen considering I was hyperactive as a child
I think I also once had a MRI scan as a kid, can't remember it taking that long.
I do remember them taking me out of it because they couldn't see my vains or something and had to put a fluid inside of my vains so it showed better on scan.
So I had to do it twice. And it made a hell of a noise.
Oh, they probably gave you something called "contrast"
I had CT scan today without contrast while some other hospitals have older CT devices which require contrast
Keyboard update 3

nope but ig il check it out
i have everything i need now so its just a question of finishing it
fuck ya, must feel nice. Are you lubing up the switches? (mine came prelubbed, i have no interest in lubbing lol )
fuuuuckkk no there prelubed
im not signing up to be a switch surgeon these are so tiny
my thoughts EXACTLY
so already i see there talking about the space bar which mine is unironically pretty perfect no woble side to side or double clunk ig il call it
but im sure with wear it will be inevitable
It;s just generally interesting. Its not YOU MUST CONSIDER THIS!!! lol
ik but any cool inovation is worth checking out lol
i got nothing else to do other than lissen to music while putting on all they key caps lol
im finally gonna have a caps lock again
for you to hit by accident during worst social moment
honestly most the time its just that i forget its on because its not something i check
and the lights are on the whole ahh other end
Why are there 2 of the same key but one the wrong size lol
ISO maybe?
Finally Done 🥳
Probably yea since i have a large backspace too
Yeah, that's it.
love the color
its Blacktron 2 its space Pirate themed. it came out in 1991
Wow i love it😍
We used it as the theme to our black metal band 20 years ago or so
Cool😎
music and bands are a dying art man
theres only 1 band at my school
there absolute machines tho so they definitely got a future in music if they want to keep going
Indeed, especially because we are going to have ai music slop now🥴
i dont have the brain cell coordination to play an instrument tbh
they performed recently and the singer fell on his ass trying to flex and i remember you heard the entire room do a partially held back giggle
marching percussion is great
i have a cousin who's almost 2m tall, and naturally he played sousaphone in marching band
didn't ever have to guess where he was on the field 🤣
Pretty sure ISO.
Sure? What about the 4 ones in the top right?
I played a punk show once (i was just filling in on Guitar) and people were fucking hammered trying to climb up on stage. one guy ask me to hit him to launch him off the stage. My Les Paul Jr has a tooth mark on the butt from smashing a guy in the face who tried to take it
Those are the media controls which arent standard for keycaps so ima have to order them separately
I dont plan on using them tho so its not like it maters much
sounds liek a great spot for custom Keycaps for flare
Explains it 🙂
sand down the extra | key put a slide decal and then seal it. custom key done
And finally got that Intel X550-T2 network adapter yesterday.
And seems to be actually new production official Intel product, not some clone with the Intel chip.
i hadn't been on twitter basically since the takeover, and i decided to take a look. except for keeping my account there, i'm happy i didn't stick around. hot garbage is several levels above what it's turned into
Yes that laptop is sitting on a chair, I ran out of workbench space.
i see room under the desk
use your feet, sell the footage for some side profit
I have used the floor a few times, and the random computer towers as impromptu laptop desks.
fuckkk i really need to stop procrastinating and buy a Universal Power supply for my NAS
Off work in 45 min, no clue if I'm upto doing satis tonight though.
You mean UPS (Uninterruptible power supply)?
derp yes\
i even turned off adblock for the full experience
I'll look at doing some repairs tomorrow when I have desk space, got plenty to keep me busy, all broken due to staff 🤷♂️
The office chairs aren't too bad, I can't complain.
@twin dew UPS is a space I'm blind to. I guess i should research and find one with a easily replicable battery (that has long standing availability) for when i need to do so
And another thing you want is actually working automatic self-testing.
So you get warning about the battery being almost dead from age.
Instead of noting it when the UPS doesn't work when needed.
thanks
I prob should look into a ups myself, right now I'm looking at getting a laser engraver.
At home I use a massive arm chair.
the fun part is i have basically all the metric stuff from my pc blocked, and am following only 2 people on there, so it has no idea what kinds of ads to customize for me, so it was just a bunch of the few kinds of companies that still advertise on there
My chair isn't practical for dragging around, but it's hella comfy.
Good thing since it cost £1000
Some UPS might say they have self-test, but it doesn't actually do anything.
So need to be careful with that one.
And that it is actually automated on schedule, some only do when asked.
they also tend not to actually raise or lower the arms vertically enough
On the cheap end.
there's cheap, then there's decent, then expensive, then stupid, then cheap but expensive
I only know that APC Back-UPS Pro line has working automated self-test. (Edit, originally as APC Smart-UPS, which is separate line).
And that at least some Eaton and Cyperpower models don't.
Don't know about APC consumer models.
thanks, I apprecaite the input. Cyberpower is 80% of the offerings here
I have aa serta Mesh back. I really like it
my chair arms went too high for what i need, but not low enough, so i rigged some longer bolts to drop the arm mounts down by ~8cm
that's why i cheated 🤣
And might not be right for APC either, as the stuff changes.
huh. maybe not 8cm, more like 3-4
I would break that. I am Rough on arm rests
i forgot i overshot with them the first attempt, then used shorter bolts
with them in stock, the arms would always hit the table, and i wanted the chair to go all the way under
i'm 100kg and i could swing off one of these bolts
my arm rests spin up
!

no, it's not AI
Seems like it could be fun for a sim
i'd probably be a dirty rotten cheater, grab a captain's chair out of a wrecked van, and rig up a decent base for it
maybe leftovers from a nissan warehouse that hasn't been touched since 1989
i've sat in them and they aren't auto grade
maybe ATV grade
i do wonder what i could piece together from junkyards and business liquidation places for the cost of that scorpion chair thing
nah, that's a signature of the "gaming" look
Copying racing car seats.
Basic thing in almost all "gaming" chairs.
But doing it badly, just for the looks.
yea, bucket seat
lol imagine trying to put a gaming chair in a porsche and going on the highway with it
the one thing i've seen in gaming chairs that is slightly tempting is the leg lift things
the biggest issue with desk chairs in general is that none of them can really deal with the existence of the keyboard. "gaming chairs" all seem to be aimed at making playing with a controller a bit more comfortable
wider chair
yup, that's what mine is
leather & tubular steel
try local places either moving or going out of business, can probably get something cheap because they don't want to have to pay to move it or throw it out
even if you need to buy a new hydraulic piston for something older, if the rest of it works well for you, that'd be all that matters
maybe you should switch to one of those ceiling mounted swing chairs
oh that's right
standing desk then?
just some heavy duty brackets & an ikea butcher block tabletop
I get mine from home depot. its cheaper
idk if there's a home depot in Pilsen
it may be made of asbetose but itll last til the end of time
ooooh
ask the local hospital if they have any of these laying around, or the mobile carts
knock a hole in the wall, bolt the CRT to the studs
sledgehammer needed no matter what then 😛
oooo maybe one of those school TV carts with a bolt on keyboard tray
eh, different styles mostly. plus we haven't had the major cities bombed to oblivion........twice.
a lot of our houses are still brick on the outside walls, just studs & drywall for the interior walls
and things like office buildings & apartments are cinder block
mine's 2x6 for the exterior, with a fuckton of plaster & stucco
Yep 2x6’s and plywood covered in either hard wood or siding
depends on what the original style is
matching that kind of thing after a repair is the art
the materials are cheap, you pay for the repair guy's ability to match
kinda similar to plaster work over brick in europe. make the repair job disappear
stucco is this kind of exterior
it's a kind of plaster, just stronger than interior stuff 🤣
kinda moving towards concrete in its consistency
and it'll shred your skin if you rub against it
OH 🤣 yea not so much used for stuff like stamped art around here, just thrown onto walls like plaster
but like 3-4cm thick
there's different ways to finish the top, and that's where the artistry is for the construction & repair guys
yea, in a desert here, so water's not really an issue
good material for the environment. just like doing wood siding would be awful with how hot it gets
reverse case of that stucco damage
wood siding is mostly fine with water, stucco.......not so much
it looks like one of those "don't touch it for a week, then clean it off" kinds of repair jobs
true
will take 3 committee meetings to figure out that they should let it dry for a while 🤣
oh that's right 🤣
we weren't here first
it used to be a bit nicer, but also native americans built canals and farms where phx is now
it's a decent halfway point to put an outpost between new mexico and california areas
there's high schools around here that were built in the 60s/70s that double as nuclear emergency shelters
first floor is completely underground with 15cm thick reinforced concrete walls
i mean, here it's always been water
oh, i thought you meant irl
we've got 7 states currently bitching over what remains of the Colorado River
agreed
everything went to shit when Harambe died, i wanna jump universes over
it's really the only "big river" the western US has that doesn't connect to the Mississippi
🤣 same
so apparently the Colorado River has the same average output as the Seine
505 m^3/s
uhhh far less 🤣
no major cities on it
yea, some industrial & agri
we also extract so much it doesn't go to the ocean anymore
you mean hydroelectric?
oh that thing. yea, i unsubbed
something felt weird about their recent vids
it changed without being disclosed or explained. that to me damages trust
oh i never watched fern
with veritasium, it went from a physics prof teaching physics to doing some weird deep dives and advocation stuff without explaining why
i think it's called Reputation Laundering, using someone's name to push your own agenda
are you dumb or are you dumb level question
you missed the point
the point i was making is firefox is begging me to use firefox while using firefox
after asking around i have found a video of it... honestly i remembered it being funnier
Don't forget to subscribe! I still make videos!
A geek plays the classic 80s song The Final Countdown on a homemade instrument called a Kazookeylele. A Ukulele, Kazoo, Piano combination. Featured of Britains Got Talent.
Thanks to Davie504 for featuring me in a video! wanna bass vs kazookeylele battle?
So, where do I start. This video took me ...
i completely forgot.. i wanted to see you guys try and guess the price
$350
USD?
CAD
higher
yea 550 CAD 670 if i count the 4 keys i ordered for the corner earlier
yea no even for me that was way too much
over time ill spend that though lol
definitely not worth it but since im mostly doing it as a one time thing i figured id ball out
truth is anything good in the mechanical world is 250+
also YOU built it so when something breaks you can fix it
that too but some of the switches are so stuck in there that some wont ever be coming out ever again
push them out fronm the rear if they are already broken
some are buttery smooth and some are so tight they dont even release
when they break
wdym exactly from the "Rear"
remove the board so its just the latus the switches socket into.
prvided your case and setup allows for it. My latus screws into the board from the rear
oh yea i guess i could try and fully tear it down but yea idk i dident bother checking for screws since i have no intetions to take it apart
i manged to get all the keys to work and thats all that matters
i am so upset that this checkbox circle is off center
Join me in my quest to end ai finally for all, and to at last uninstall copilot for the last time...for it to never return
we writing manuals at 2:30 am
It's a manual for a server. That's the shortest quickstart I could possibly write that covers all the critical bases
so, NASA said that very bright thing is Venus
I still wonder why it looks like it has a ring

Yea or nay on putting this in the manual
As a matter of fact
both the cache and array are btrfs
Why do you ask?
It depends
It's more fault tolerant than ext4 because of its snapshots, and also has a decent compression algorithm built into it that you can optionally enable
Great for single drive with no parity (which the cache is because customer is cheap)
Lol
In my professional opinion, you made a good choice
zfs master race 🙃
How does the dns "redirect" to anything?
This is for home users, the assumption is 192.168. I can adapt on a case-by-case basis
Also, generally the intention is for me to be there in person (for extra money) to install it and make sure everything works. The manual is there for if they didn't pay for that or for if I'm not available
Imo I think you should (visually) put npm between external and everything else, and replace the "redirects" with "proxies"
Basically switch the position of unraid and npm
Intranet redirects.
Primary DNS gets set at gateway level to .43, and on applicable devices too for good measure. DNS server redirects *.lan to NGINX which based on the hostname redirects to IP:Port
External doesn't go straight to NPM, it can only reach it because of the DNS server
Which I unfortunately had to add because there is no way to make .local TLD work over a VPN on IOS
Apple hardcoded it to use local network rather than active network
So nothing is reachable from external?
Use .internal, official tld for internal use
This is a topology of the server's internal network. External network on this diagram is specifically referring to outside the server, not to the public internet.
But no, the only thing accessible from the outside is wireguard
Does it autoresolve with multicast DNS?
If so, it won't work. Same problem as .local
Not yet probably
Also .local is a published IEEE standard I've never heard of .internal
Does .internal do anything special at all, or are you just suggesting it for convention's sake?
IANA put forth a proposal and ICANN approved it July 2024
www.icann.org/en/board-activities-and-meetings/materials/approved-resolutions-special-meeting-of-the-icann-board-29-07-2024-en#section2.a
.local is not standard in actual DNS, only for mDNS and like.
.home.arpa is what is supposed to be used for actual DNS.
And that .internal wasn't approved and has expired.
Ah, sorry, it was reinput and approved in 2024...
First attempt was from 2013 to 2018.
But .local isn't supposed to be used for anything other than mDNS.
And that isn't supposed to work over VPNs and like, only in actual local network cell.
Edit to earlier, .home.arpa, not .local.arpa.
Yeah that's why it has a dedicated DNS server
Specifically for that problem
Anyone with github. They enabled it by default. I just disabled it. Just a headsup.
what..
Here, a hiker got in trouble for using ChatGPT lol
He got lost and instead of calling rescue service, he asked ChatGPT for directions and ChatGPT told him to go into even worse terrain 🤣
How can you even get lost if you still have internet access...
"A lost hiker on Sljeme mountain in Croatia sought help from an AI chatbot instead of emergency services. The chatbot advised moving into more difficult terrain and failed to suggest calling 112, increasing the risk. The Croatian Mountain Rescue Service ultimately rescued the person unharmed, highlighting the dangers of relying on AI in emergencies."
Makes me wonder too....
Not to mention it's a small mountain overlooking capital city. You would need to be a moron to lose sense of direction
Maybe he had chatGPT running locally on his phone? 🤣
oh centralised map services are not perfect. Google gets so many maps wrong on my island. People take the wrong way to my house ALL the time
chatGPT is telling me it isn't possible
i live people getting lost while having gps nav
i used to live in the age where calling shotgun meant you had navigator duties and were using the map in the glove box. Everyone who can't drive anywhere without a gps are like the typical "chatgpt" meme to me, for the last 25 years
mapquest was the last time i saw people bothering. Google maps killed all sense of knowing how to use a map it seems
Funny you mention that IceyCold. They did a test recently here.
They put the younger generation in shotgun with a map. And they had to direct the driver to a village somewhere in my country.
They didn't know what the fuck to do with the map 🤣
lol yeah pretty fkn much
I mean, I am not mad at the younger generation. They use the tools they get handed.
iuf you're going anywhere with back roads, gps nav won't help you. gotta use maps
But the older generation knows, if the power goes down. You pretty much fucked. (especially if you don't know how to read a map, or how to survive without electronics).
R.I.P. new generation
physical maps that were printed locally
It's like those stories how Gen Z can't read analog clock

oops media link in tech. still, i'll leave it. it's relevant
My goverment started a campaign a few weeks ago. To start preparing us for disasters. A.k.a. prepbag.
yeah i need to rebuild my go bag i think
Just in case of natural disasters, war, or cyber attacks. And nuclear.
i might have a halogen head lamp in it
i'm coming into wild fire season again. i almost had to evacuate last year. the fire was spreading fast towards me lol
stressful to be sure
nah i give them credit especially large maps its a pain in the ass to find where you are sometimes if theres too many roads around
just because it was the best at some point dosent mean it was good
you use the index and go to the page with the grid. or if it's folded then there's a way to fold it keeping the grid index right
maps are tried and true
I can only image 😒
Magic, did you read what I said?
👆
Even local news here mentioned Belgium preparing for emergency situations. Gotta buy a survival kit and some survival food
And I mean. We used to make fire as cavemen.
Then we advanced. And have like all this fancy stuff to make fire.
Doesn't mean we shouldn't have the skill to still make a fire.
nah i mean this
but yea thats also true
we still use fire. it's a pretty good tech
i don't smoke but i always carry around a bic lighter in my pockets. portable fire is amazing
It's just when shit hits the fan, it's handy to have backup skills.
Like reading a map and compass, how to make fire with sticks and stones.
Pretty much everything they do in those survival programs 🤣
Time to do some "emergency" shopping
building a fire in the rain with wood you've had to scavenge from the wet forest floor.
That's a true test. i was doing that 15-19 while i was in advanced scouting . wonder if i still could.
MREs are pretty amazing tech
You were in the scouts? I was too 😄
i like those youtube channels where guys find ancient MREs and eat them sometimes
Actually happy I did scouts as a kid. Learned a lot of things that are handy.
oh, I think I know which one you mean. I had those in my YT feed a while back.
Yeah i did the whole scouts thing. Scouts Canada. started as a beaver, cub, a scout, a venture and a rover. i got my Chiefs Scout and Queen's Venture Award. Do i call it the King's Venture Award now i wonder?
SO much hard work to get it
Yeah, almost all army MRE products here can be found in a grocery store: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jh1pKc7XkrQ
Check out this amazing Croatian 24 hour ration which has some of the best food and snacks in any MRE. All it's missing are a few accessories that could make this MRE a little more effective and easier to use out in the field. Food that you'll want to eat time & time again. A bit of a throwback in a way to rations of the 80's & 90's, but with a b...

I think I watched that one. 👆
MREs are more of a field ration situation. if you're hoarding a ton of food for home base, MREs are probably not what you want
If you don't watch, the dude got a headache after a day or two 🤣
At least we aren't getting protein bar from Snowpiercer
We got recommended to buy preserved food in cans for atleast 3 days.
*assuming you know what it's made from
But my grandparents, they had canned food for like a year 🤣
They survived WO2 and had learned from it.
i'd eat cockroach bars in a survival situation
i think in the snow piercer comic it was worse
Never read the snow piercer comic. I did watch the show but I found it a bit boring 🙈
Yeah, it was literally the only food you could eat if you were a tailie
Movie is better than the netflix series tbh
I think I got through the first season. But I had to dip out in the 2nd season.
Might be me. Sometimes I am not in the mood for it, but doesn't mean the show is bad. Just that my brain is off at the time I watch.
Sean Bean doesn't die in the first season! He avoided that by not being in the first season!
Also what do you mean with one train?
Don't they encounter a second train passing em by?
The show. They'd chant that as a rally cry to unite everyone on the train
spoilers: ||wilferd is on the service train, a second smaller one, and catches up to them||
Right, yeah I remember that.
It's not just you. I enjoyed the netflix series but still enjoyed the movie more
I like the director Boon. Mickey 17 was good too
I might need to give it another watch, it felt like not much was happening.
I liked Mickey 17 allot. But I haven't met many people who share that sentiment.
Bong Joon Ho. got his name wrong.
And also Parasite.
Not boon. OOPSIE (iykyk)
Frozen hand scene in Snowpiercer movie was brutal
If I remember correctly, it felt like not much was happening in the show. Or too slow.
And I think I got a bit frustrated by that.
some seasons developed pretty slow
it was all over the place. production problems behind the scenes. almost getting cancelled, etc...
but it finished and tied up the series. Over all i liked it
Also, Connelly. My first celeb crush. ❤️ She's still got it
I got pissed because Sean Bean was hard to kill lol
yeah you usually expect him to die
He always manages to pull out alive from crazy situations
A departure from his usual type cast for sure
Sean bean gets killed in the first act all the time
That quote is even LOTR, which is like... where he dies in the first act
Btw speaking of comics, trying to get my hands on hellboy (not omnibus) and having a hard time finding something.
Saw the hellboy movie a few weeks ago and suddenly I was like "oh, hellboy also has a super interesting world".
which movie? haha. i didn't mind the reboot with Harbour so much. It was no Brother Pearlman though
I also have a feeling John Wick is still alive, he is basically immortal at this point
