#

From what I've seen you don't really need to worry with most modern OLED displays

They just hide it better until they run out of brightness headroom.

mental oriole
#

Just don't max out brightness

#

Makes it last way longer.

twin dew
#

What modern OLEDs do, is track each individual subpixels usage, and have in-built model on how they degrade from that usage, compensating for the dimming by making same input drive the more worn OLED subpixels higher, so that the visible brightness is the same for same input.

#

Until the max brightness is reached and it has to dim less worn subpixels instead.

#

But as Diluted said, the brightness and pixel temperature have major non-linear impact on that wear rate.

I found something new. A trend.

#

I got a website with games. Pure games. And they have a F.A.Q.

#

In those F.a.Q. are the most random things.

#

THis question is "Do you have school compulsory education if you are 16"

#

And then you get this AI generated bullshit underneath it.

#

This question is "Can you bend wood".

#

So they have all these random questions and answers, just in the hope they get higher in SEO, and get more trafick on their website.

#

Anmd that format of "Bold question" -> answer and ⚠️ I see a lot on different websites. Which makes me believe it's AI generated.

#

Yeah. I jinxed it.

This past week, I have encountered 10 websites in that format. Now that I am actively trying to find them again. I can't 🤣

#

What is your definition of devices designed for gaming?

#

PC's weren't made for gaming purely. It just got to the point, gaming became so popular, that it is it's own thing now I believe.

#

And when a manufacturer really focuses on a laptop for gaming, it;'s hard to say the device is not designed towards that.

#

As you should 😄 Was just wondering what you were discussing.
Laptops not being made for gaming? Steamdeck?

#

Depends on the games I guess. But if your games do run on low settings. Than it suits for you.

#

It's the subjective part.

#

maybe POE2 isn't optimized (yet)? Because that's another factor in the whole story.

#

tiny rant; I am still pissed off POE developers are so stubborn not to introduce a INGAME market.

#
  1. We got AI. But if I want to sell items. I have to refresh a fucking website to look for an item.
#

Then I have to go to a hideaout with some bot. Make sure I don't get ripped off.

#

Really? Ingame? 🙏

#

Because POE1 was scamming us a lot.

#

They put in an exalt orb and then tried to change it right before the trade and hope you click accept etc.

#

And it was just bots bots bots.

#

If you priced something too cheap, within seconds you get DM spammed. (Which to me was the clue, "Aha, I enter it too cheap") 🤣

#

Sorry 😄 Poe 1 PTSD.

#

Also, anyone notice the sudden UE5 hate?

#

Are people slowly waking up from the PR side of UE5. I get a lot of "negative" videos around UE5 in my feed lately.

#

And I haven't really looked for it besides guides and tutorials when working in UE5 environment.

#

That sounds amazing. Still, convoluted.

#

But I know the developer by now. He stubborn, old school and want to do things his way (which is fine).

#

Most would just implement a market place hehe

#

but I guess theyw want the player to still do something actively (walking to hideout with boots) when it comes to trading.

#

Instead of opening a marketplace UI, putting the boots in there and be done with it.

#

Yeah, and POE1 stash etc carries over to 2. My main issue is the feature creep the game has. And the lack of a marketplace.

#

And this. Monetization.

#

Might give it a try. Not sure. I will wait for development to finish.

#

I can 100% understand that.

#

Every league adds a mechanic. And those mechanics carry over the next league. So eventually you have all these different mechanics layering on top of eachother.

It is just about the AC voltage main cap.
But capacitors discharge internally pretty fast when not powered anymore.

So right after unplugging, that cap will still have full AC voltage in it, but that dimishes fast once unplugged.
And after year, absolutely no chance to have charge.
Rubber gloves would just make it more likely you cause ESD damage to the PSU instead.

dusk plaza
#

hello, i need some help with my current problem. hope someone tech-savy in here could point me to the right direction
recently when i came home from work, the circuit breaker was off. i left the pc on while i was away
when i reset the circuit breaker, i turned the pc on, but nothing was showing on the display
after a lot of troubleshooting, i narrowed it down to the gpu
replaced the gpu with an older one, and the pc was starting without a hitch
the pc is around 2yo and never had these kinds of problems with the gpu
the psu is a Seasonic Prime TX-1600, so i doubt it's a low power thing
but when i plug in the new gpu, the fans do turn on
i know everything points to the gpu being dead...but is it?
i don't have another pc to try and plug it in for tests
is there anything else i could do to check if the new gpu is dead?

#

sorry for the text wall

#

just kind of frustrated and desperate here

twin dew
#

Multimeter between the power connector ground and power pins in resistance mode.
But that basically says that there is short in the GPU when PSU does that.
Most likely VRM stage blew and shorted, and probably killed the GPU die with overvoltage at the same time.

twin dew
#

Yes

dusk plaza
#

hmm, i an not that tech savy... so i am not sure where those pins are. also i am not sure i would be able to open the gpu without breaking it

twin dew
#

The ones your PSU cable connects to.

#

Just between the upper and lower rows.

dusk plaza
#

oh, i see

#

hmm, not sure i have a multimeter here...might have to go out and buy one

twin dew
#

Not worth it.
High-quality PSU not starting with GPU cables connected with one GPU, but does with second tells there is almost certainly a dead short and the short circuit protection or overcurrent protection of the PSU is tripping.

dusk plaza
#

but the fans do turn fine...so are fans on a separate circuit?

#

this is what confused me

twin dew
#

Ah, so the computer does try to turn on.
Missed that line, that part of the system responds.
But then the thing would be to try that GPU in another system if possible.

#

And multimeter helps nothing anyways.

dusk plaza
#

no, i meant the gpu's fans do run and turn

#

the pc itself does turn on each time

#

it just stops when trying to connect to the gpu

#

with a motherboard error stuck at 97

#

which seems to be the step for gpu connection

twin dew
#

Yes, and that was what I misunderstood and missed.
Thinking the PSU doesn't really turn on at all for some reason.
Missed the line.
So PSU powers the system fine, and no shorts or like.
But just non-communicating GPU.
So less catastrophic failure.

dusk plaza
#

yes

#

so does the diagnostic change?
i mean, the gpu is kind of good and after 2...wait it's now 3 years
i doubt i can use the warranty, and given the current gpu prices...

twin dew
#

If still in warranty, then probably can.
But you might either be out of it, if 2 years or less warranty, or just on the edge if 3 year one.

dusk plaza
#

yeah, going to try and contact the seller...

#

yeah, i was hoping i wouldn't have to replace the gpu because i am honestly not sure i could even find another unit

twin dew
dusk plaza
#

from a quick search, the one i have has almost doubled in price

twin dew
#

Old model.

#

Last units being scalped for higher price to those who absolutely cannot upgrade to newer one.

dusk plaza
#

yeah, it's a 7900 xt...with 20Gb ram

#

no more gpus with that much ram afaik

twin dew
#

Yeah, not without going to 5090, which cost 3k or more.
Might be again in next gen AMD GPUs once they come out.

#

But that is 6-12 months away.

#

7900:s didn't get replacements this AMD gen.

languid gulch
#

this might sound dumb, but have you tried a different DP/HDMI output? sometimes there's a short there that's killed just the port and having something plugged into it will cause a boot loop

Disgruntled hacker drops second zero-day Windows Defender exploit just hours after Microsoft patches first one

A vindictive security researcher has publicly dropped a second Windows Defender privilege escalation exploit, less than two weeks after Microsoft scrambled to plug the first one. The vigilante is threatening to start releasing even more dangerous remote code execution exploits because Microsoft “mopped the floor with me.”

#

From the dev:

It's way too funny. When Windows Defender realizes that a malicious file has a cloud tag, for whatever stupid and hilarious reason, the antivirus that’s supposed to protect decides that it is a good idea to just rewrite the file it found again to its original location. The PoC abuses this behavior to overwrite system files and gain administrative privileges,

is there a reliable website to check hashes of windwos system files ?

twin dew
#

Don't know.
Really annoying that MS doesn't sign them all...

#

Ok, they have since added separate signature catalogs for them that contain SHA256 hashes of files.

#

So in theory you could now check that the signature catalogs have been signed correctly, and then compare the contained hashes to the files.
Doing it manually via every files Properties is just useless for more than few files.

#

Windows SDK has utility named Signtool that can do those verification checks for files against the signature catalogs with various options.

dusk plaza
#

@languid gulch nope, changing the gpu's outputs didn't do anything. seems the gpu is dead or something broke.
the one thing that annoys me is that the fans do work for some reason.
but there is no light turning on on the gpu along the rest of the pc.
i am tempted to open the gpu to see if i can fix anything, but before that i will wait for the reseller to tell me if i still have a warranty to use

Wow they got mixed up

twin dew
#

That is just allocation that cannot be used by CPU as RAM at all.

#

All the other RAM can also be used as VRAM if free.

elfin niche

twin dew
elfin niche
#

The iGPU in question is the hd4000

#

On a laptop with a sata ssd, and 16GB of ddr3l

twin dew
#

Yes, that should have been able to use rest of the RAM as needed as Shared VRAM.
In addition to that Dedicated VRAM allocation.

#

Like this, that Dedicated is what is set in BIOS, and that Shared is then half of rest of the RAM in this case.

elfin niche
twin dew
#

Basic thing since forever, and I actually used 4th gen Intel with that IGP for long time and it was using shared (V)RAM fine.

#

Became first a thing during AGP times with limited amount being usable for dGPUs.
And later became basic thing usually up to that half of RAM with dynamic allocation, for both IGPs and dGPUs.

elfin niche
twin dew
#

Gen 7.0 vs. Gen 7.5. No major changes.

twin dew

Doesn't matter.

elfin niche

A shit ton more stuff is locked on a laptop

twin dew
twin dew
elfin niche
elfin niche

Because that is setting that needs to be exposed.
It isn't, but it isn't exposed exactly because it doesn't really matter, because of that dynamic allocation.

elfin niche
twin dew
#

Just check that Task Manager Performance tab entry for the IGP?

#

It reports what the IGP driver reports.

elfin niche
#

I've never managed to make it use more than .8 GB

#

Maybe a tad more when i was launching satisfactory, in the few seconds it would manage to not crash

#

But i'm yet to see any proof this thing can use more than 2GB, might have seen 1.5 for a split second

twin dew
#

Because you are probably using softwares to monitor that that only look for the use of that Dedicated part, because they have been coded for dGPUs.

#

Where for dGPU, using RAM as extension is slow.
For IGP it is same speed as the dedicated part.

#

Which is why I said to check that Task Manager entry.

elfin niche
twin dew
elfin niche
#

The software i use is afterburner, and i seriously doubt it wouldn't show dynamic ram allocation when it shows paging file use

elfin niche
twin dew
#

At least not shown by default, don't know if configurable.

#

Not going to install to check.

elfin niche
twin dew
#

But the idea is to just have something that actually shows both dedicated, and shared, VRAM usage open, and run something.

#

And you will almost certainly see that shared usage jump up, while leaving significant amount of the dedicated part free.

#

That only gets used once the RAM starts to run out for the system.

twin dew
#

Like with basically any other VRAM usage monitoring software.

#

The ones that even have support for showing shared VRAM usage as second entry are very few.

Don't confuse quantum mechanics with quantum computing.
One is a field of physics with several theories and mechanics, one is a real world application of some mechanics from that field (partly applied to computer science)

night girder
#

Well to be fair, both are intertwined (mechanics vs computing).

#

But I don't know which are theories anymore, and which are actually being applied in real life.
The Quantum Crytpgraphy, as I understand, is something I think most governments and law enforcements fear.
Since it claims it can't be intcercepted. But then again, I wonder if we can eventually use it for encryption of chat messages etc.
Which would be a HUGE boost to being annonymous on the internet. And probably used by criminals anyway.

dire igloo
#

The number 1 cryptography issue with quantum computing isn't encryption, it's decryption.
The standard algorithms work based on prime pairs and solving that encryption is infinitely easier for quantum computers.

As for encryption, there have already been several algorithms developed which quantum computers won't have an advantage at solving - exactly for that reason.

Governments rely on secure communications too and criminals aren't the only ones who want to shroud their communication from foreign actors (journalists, whistleblowers, political activists)

You also can't protect against communication being intercepted, but strong encryption will ensure that whoever intercepted the message won't be able to read it within any realistic amount of time

ok, dumb tech question time

#

is it possible to have 2 GPUs in a system (with hopefully enough CPU cores to do this), and have different games running in vram on each of the GPUs

twin dew
#

In theory, if one of the games supports GPU selection.
Unreal Engine does via launch argument for example.

#

And Windows has a way to suggest software which GPU to use.

languid gulch
#

how would the outputs work under that circumstance, would i run another cable from the 2nd GPU?

twin dew
#

Mostly same as with any current multi-GPU, final frames being copied as bitmap over PCIe to the GPU with display connected.

#

Rendering GPU and displaying GPU haven't needed to be the same for long time now, for most part.

languid gulch
#

you're tempting me

#

knock it off

twin dew
#

Way too much hassle to be worth it for most part, but in theory possible with some caveats depending on the exact games.

languid gulch
#

yea

#

ngl i only asked because i can run my mmo and one of my newer games at the same time with this system, but not both of my newer games

#

my modded ksp currently sucks up almost all of my vram

#

the real question: would i be able to pull this off with both an nvidia & radeon

twin dew
#

Yes. You can run AMD and Nvidia GPUs (and IGPs) in same computer at same time.

@twin dew sorry to ask you, you're the only one around that i know who know his computer stuff
this is the second time in a couple of days that my laptop suddently shuts off, the power cable light turns off too for a couple of seconds then turns back on and I can turn the computer back on. There were capacitor noises. Do you know what could this be a symptom off? Could it be just the power charger or is the mb dying?

#

I opened the laptop and battery seemed in good health

#

precision: it's not overheating because that second time I literally had just mozilla open

twin dew
#

Does the computer run just on the battery without external power?
If yes, then the charger shouldn't matter to thing like that.

south current
twin dew
#

When the battery is dead and doesn't hold any charge.
Separate from ballooning.

south current
#

ooh no it can run on the battery

twin dew
#

And AFAIK capacitors don't make any noise, except if they pop and get destroyed.
Coils can whine.

south current
#

there were little popping noises, but not big

#

like maybe arcs noises?

twin dew
#

But no, not something I'm able to diagnose remotely with my experience.

south current
#

I see, thanks for your time!

dire igloo
dire igloo
# south current I see, thanks for your time!

If you can reproduce it reliably, you can try setting up a video recording to show it to helpers like us.
But if there really are capacitors popping or stuff's arcing, then please please please put your personal safety first and get it repaired/replaced.
Don't push your luck with electrical safety, shit's scary as FUCK

I don't think I can reproduce it reliably, both times were very random

Honestly tho, I could not tell you what I'd be less willing to fuck around with, live fireworks or live electricity.
Not because of me not knowing the dangers, but moreso me not knowing how badly I'd fuck around with either

visual tree
#

Fireworks are more dangerous imo because of low-quality ones

dire igloo
visual tree
#

Following safety protocols might not be enough if the fireworks are poor

dire igloo
#

Alternatively, take a beer crate and enough bottles to fill it, use the bottle to weigh it down (fill them with water or sand if they're empty), use the holes in the middle to stabilize rocket launches

dire igloo
visual tree
#

Most dangerous are firecrackers with premature explosion due to poor quality

#

You could easily loose your hand

dire igloo
#

Kinda. With firecrackers, I like to light a few of them from a distance:
Lay them down on the ground, take a step back, lean forwards to light fuse, immediately step back.
Gives me a rough idea of how short the fuse is and whether or not I am willing to risk lighting them in my hand

Tho I've stopped lighting loud explosive fireworks a few years ago after seeing how absolutely scared the family dog was

#

I would consider the largest part of that danger to come from the likeliness of the issue, not the severity of the damage.
A display tipping over and firing sideways or a rocket launching diagonally into making a nosedive are MUCH more dangerous in terms of the damage they can do

i was told to talk about it here, im wondering peoples experiences with linux on higher end gaming computers? do most things work on there (ARCh?) and if so, how different is it from windows? I know Debian is pretty similiar to windows, but not sure the performance gains are there when ive only ever used CL versions of linux as a hypervisor and then windows vms for servers.

waxen pendant

You select the desktop environment you want to use, and the base you want to use (Debian/Ubuntu, Fedora, Arch), and select subdistro that has that desktop environment.
With then also decision between rolling release vs. short cycles vs. long cycles distro.
Debian for example as is is pretty bad desktop distro, unless using Testing, as the release cycle is 2 years.

#

Base determines the CL side etc.
Desktop environment determines the GUI side.

jagged snow
# pure escarp i was told to talk about it here, im wondering peoples experiences with linux on...

I can give some experience here
I run kubuntu and debian for work and hobby related stuff
I've used both arch and bazzite for a gaming desktop(7800x3d, 9070xt)
Arch, in my experience, took a very significant amount of fiddling
Bazzite was a near-flawless experience. I have one hardware related sleep issue that I haven't been able to fix, but that also showed up on windows
So far, my entire steam library has been a near flawless experience and performance has been similar or better to windows. Playing on a 240hz qd-oled with freesync and vrr works great
1% lows are slightly better than windows. Average fps either went up or down by around 5%, depending on the game. Generally, I'd say the trend is towards an increase in performance over windows.

I haven't encountered any rendering issues or major bugs with linux. So far the only notable issue is that helldivers 2 crashes when someone joins my party if it is in fullscreen and in the background at the moment they join

Bazzite is generally pretty usable as a general desktop experience, but some more advanced use cases are more work than they would be on another distro
If you want to do a lot of power-user type work, a debian or arch based distro would be my reccomendation

It is quite locked down in a lot of ways
They've made some improvements to it, but you really can't easily modify/tweak the OS beyond what's in the settings menu
A lot of the changes you make won't persist reboots(which is nice, makes it harder to break stuff), but it means that if you need to tweak something you generally need a ujust for it or you need to make a script that runs at startup and makes the change every time

#

For web browsing, word processing, and gaming, it's excellent
For software dev, probably not going to be a great experience

#

I'm a photographer, and I've been messing around with getting an image editing workflow going on bazzite like I have on kubuntu and that's been a bit of a pain as well

#

But, conversely, it does make some things easier

#

The built-in lutris integrations mean that running games from gog or itch.io is super simple and, in my experience, pretty foolproof

glossy glacier
# pure escarp i was told to talk about it here, im wondering peoples experiences with linux on...

Mostly depends on your hardware.
You will have some problems with the latest stuff shortly after release. How quick it gets fixed depending on the distro.
GPU you will loose performance with nvidia, amd or Intel cards are mostly on par or better than windows.
Gaming generally works, as long as you dont play games with kernel level anti cheat. IMO the FPS are a bit lower but more stable.
Getting things running can be a bit of a hassle outside of steam, but doable once you know how.

the one thing i've seen in gaming chairs that is slightly tempting is the leg lift things

#

the biggest issue with desk chairs in general is that none of them can really deal with the existence of the keyboard. "gaming chairs" all seem to be aimed at making playing with a controller a bit more comfortable

#

wider chair

#

yup, that's what mine is

#

leather & tubular steel

#

try local places either moving or going out of business, can probably get something cheap because they don't want to have to pay to move it or throw it out

#

even if you need to buy a new hydraulic piston for something older, if the rest of it works well for you, that'd be all that matters

#

maybe you should switch to one of those ceiling mounted swing chairs

#

oh that's right

#

standing desk then?

#

just some heavy duty brackets & an ikea butcher block tabletop

waxen pendant
languid gulch
#

idk if there's a home depot in Pilsen

waxen pendant
#

it may be made of asbetose but itll last til the end of time

languid gulch
#

ooooh

#

ask the local hospital if they have any of these laying around, or the mobile carts

#

knock a hole in the wall, bolt the CRT to the studs

#

sledgehammer needed no matter what then 😛

#

oooo maybe one of those school TV carts with a bolt on keyboard tray

#

eh, different styles mostly. plus we haven't had the major cities bombed to oblivion........twice.

#

a lot of our houses are still brick on the outside walls, just studs & drywall for the interior walls

pure karma
#

The older rich ones maybe

#

here its all wood unless you ask specifically for bricks

languid gulch
#

and things like office buildings & apartments are cinder block

#

mine's 2x6 for the exterior, with a fuckton of plaster & stucco

pure karma
#

Yep 2x6’s and plywood covered in either hard wood or siding

languid gulch
#

depends on what the original style is

#

matching that kind of thing after a repair is the art

#

the materials are cheap, you pay for the repair guy's ability to match

#

kinda similar to plaster work over brick in europe. make the repair job disappear

#

stucco is this kind of exterior

#

it's a kind of plaster, just stronger than interior stuff 🤣

#

kinda moving towards concrete in its consistency

#

and it'll shred your skin if you rub against it

#

OH 🤣 yea not so much used for stuff like stamped art around here, just thrown onto walls like plaster

#

but like 3-4cm thick

#

there's different ways to finish the top, and that's where the artistry is for the construction & repair guys

#

yea, in a desert here, so water's not really an issue

#

good material for the environment. just like doing wood siding would be awful with how hot it gets

#

reverse case of that stucco damage

#

wood siding is mostly fine with water, stucco.......not so much

#

it looks like one of those "don't touch it for a week, then clean it off" kinds of repair jobs

#

true

#

will take 3 committee meetings to figure out that they should let it dry for a while 🤣

#

oh that's right 🤣

#

we weren't here first

#

it used to be a bit nicer, but also native americans built canals and farms where phx is now

#

it's a decent halfway point to put an outpost between new mexico and california areas

#

there's high schools around here that were built in the 60s/70s that double as nuclear emergency shelters

#

first floor is completely underground with 15cm thick reinforced concrete walls

#

i mean, here it's always been water

#

oh, i thought you meant irl

#

we've got 7 states currently bitching over what remains of the Colorado River

#

agreed

#

everything went to shit when Harambe died, i wanna jump universes over

#

it's really the only "big river" the western US has that doesn't connect to the Mississippi

#

🤣 same

#

so apparently the Colorado River has the same average output as the Seine

#

505 m^3/s

#

uhhh far less 🤣

#

no major cities on it

#

yea, some industrial & agri

#

we also extract so much it doesn't go to the ocean anymore

#

you mean hydroelectric?

#

oh that thing. yea, i unsubbed

#

something felt weird about their recent vids

#

it changed without being disclosed or explained. that to me damages trust

#

oh i never watched fern

#

with veritasium, it went from a physics prof teaching physics to doing some weird deep dives and advocation stuff without explaining why

#

i think it's called Reputation Laundering, using someone's name to push your own agenda

pure karma

are you dumb or are you dumb level question

you missed the point

the point i was making is firefox is begging me to use firefox while using firefox

we writing manuals at 2:30 am

#

It's a manual for a server. That's the shortest quickstart I could possibly write that covers all the critical bases

soft bloom

so, NASA said that very bright thing is Venus
I still wonder why it looks like it has a ring

mental oriole
winged valley
#

Yea or nay on putting this in the manual

#

As a matter of fact

#

both the cache and array are btrfs

#

Why do you ask?

#

It depends

#

It's more fault tolerant than ext4 because of its snapshots, and also has a decent compression algorithm built into it that you can optionally enable

#

Great for single drive with no parity (which the cache is because customer is cheap)

#

Lol

#

In my professional opinion, you made a good choice

zfs master race 🙃

glossy glacier

This is for home users, the assumption is 192.168. I can adapt on a case-by-case basis

#

Also, generally the intention is for me to be there in person (for extra money) to install it and make sure everything works. The manual is there for if they didn't pay for that or for if I'm not available

Which I unfortunately had to add because there is no way to make .local TLD work over a VPN on IOS

#

Apple hardcoded it to use local network rather than active network

glossy glacier
glossy glacier
winged valley
# glossy glacier So nothing is reachable from external?

This is a topology of the server's internal network. External network on this diagram is specifically referring to outside the server, not to the public internet.

But no, the only thing accessible from the outside is wireguard

winged valley
#

If so, it won't work. Same problem as .local

glossy glacier
#

Not yet probably

winged valley
#

Also .local is a published IEEE standard I've never heard of .internal

#

Does .internal do anything special at all, or are you just suggesting it for convention's sake?

twin dew
#

Ah, sorry, it was reinput and approved in 2024...

#

First attempt was from 2013 to 2018.

#

But .local isn't supposed to be used for anything other than mDNS.

#

And that isn't supposed to work over VPNs and like, only in actual local network cell.

twin dew
#

Edit to earlier, .home.arpa, not .local.arpa.

winged valley
#

Specifically for that problem

AI strikes again.

#

It's so fucking dumb. Like even the basic shit it gets wrong.

visual tree
#

Here, a hiker got in trouble for using ChatGPT lol

#

He got lost and instead of calling rescue service, he asked ChatGPT for directions and ChatGPT told him to go into even worse terrain 🤣

twin dew
#

How can you even get lost if you still have internet access...

visual tree
#

"A lost hiker on Sljeme mountain in Croatia sought help from an AI chatbot instead of emergency services. The chatbot advised moving into more difficult terrain and failed to suggest calling 112, increasing the risk. The Croatian Mountain Rescue Service ultimately rescued the person unharmed, highlighting the dangers of relying on AI in emergencies."

visual tree

Not to mention it's a small mountain overlooking capital city. You would need to be a moron to lose sense of direction

night girder
bronze jasper
#

oh centralised map services are not perfect. Google gets so many maps wrong on my island. People take the wrong way to my house ALL the time

night girder
#

chatGPT is telling me it isn't possible hehe

bronze jasper
#

i live people getting lost while having gps nav

night girder
#

Or maybe it is? I can't be arsed to look up the real info.

bronze jasper
#

i used to live in the age where calling shotgun meant you had navigator duties and were using the map in the glove box. Everyone who can't drive anywhere without a gps are like the typical "chatgpt" meme to me, for the last 25 years

#

mapquest was the last time i saw people bothering. Google maps killed all sense of knowing how to use a map it seems

night girder
#

Funny you mention that IceyCold. They did a test recently here.

#

They put the younger generation in shotgun with a map. And they had to direct the driver to a village somewhere in my country.

#

They didn't know what the fuck to do with the map 🤣

bronze jasper
#

lol yeah pretty fkn much

night girder
#

I mean, I am not mad at the younger generation. They use the tools they get handed.

bronze jasper
#

iuf you're going anywhere with back roads, gps nav won't help you. gotta use maps

night girder

But the older generation knows, if the power goes down. You pretty much fucked. (especially if you don't know how to read a map, or how to survive without electronics).

ONE TRAIN

night girder
bronze jasper

Sean Bean doesn't die in the first season! He avoided that by not being in the first season!

night girder
#

Also what do you mean with one train?

#

Don't they encounter a second train passing em by?

bronze jasper
#

The show. They'd chant that as a rally cry to unite everyone on the train

And I think I got a bit frustrated by that.

bronze jasper

some seasons developed pretty slow

#

it was all over the place. production problems behind the scenes. almost getting cancelled, etc...

but it finished and tied up the series. Over all i liked it

#

Also, Connelly. My first celeb crush. ❤️ She's still got it

visual tree

I got pissed because Sean Bean was hard to kill lol

bronze jasper
#

yeah you usually expect him to die

visual tree
#

He always manages to pull out alive from crazy situations

bronze jasper
#

A departure from his usual type cast for sure

#

Sean bean gets killed in the first act all the time

#

That quote is even LOTR, which is like... where he dies in the first act

night girder
#

Btw speaking of comics, trying to get my hands on hellboy (not omnibus) and having a hard time finding something.

#

Saw the hellboy movie a few weeks ago and suddenly I was like "oh, hellboy also has a super interesting world".

bronze jasper

which movie? haha. i didn't mind the reboot with Harbour so much. It was no Brother Pearlman though

I also have a feeling John Wick is still alive, he is basically immortal at this point
