I don't see how that would make you deserving of hate.

if you were actually hateful towards people and hated yourself for it, that I could somewhat understand, but even then you would still be a good person deep inside.
why else would you hate yourself for acting badly if not for the fact that you are a good person?

Just realized, now with that coming 2-port 10G LAN card, I can replace the current firewall MB with anything that has PCIe 3.0 4x slot if needed, using one port for all the LANs and the internal WAN, and the other for actual WAN.
Currently with this Intel Denverton Atom C3558 MB:
https://www.supermicro.com/en/products/motherboard/A2SDi-4C-HLN4F

#

Intel released that C3000 family near end of 2017, and by 2020 had discontinued the software support for the in-die encryption accelerator...
With only the next gen and up supported to this day.

#

Driver in linux works, and provides some of that, but the fuller Intel library for other programs, like OpenSSL has left this gen of QAT behind long time ago, while the CPUs were still being sold.

#

Intel also doesn't mention that dropped support in any of the changelogs XD

twin dew
#

Ah, ok, the QAT_Engine still supports Gen2 QAT, but not with the in-mainline-kernel driver.
And QATLIB has never supported Gen2, only Gen3.
You can use QAT_Engine with in-mainline-kernel drivers, but only with QATLIB.

twin dew
#

Ok, Gen 1.7 vs Gen 2.0 in Intel parlance.

That computer doesn't need it, but I might have it enabled.
But that is for tomorrow.

#

Not that I would use that QAT for anything on that machine... Just tinkering.

#

It is working for stuff that uses kernel crypto apis, just for that qatengine and openssl.

twin dew
#

But might be better to just to blacklist the whole driver module instead...
Now when reading more about various issues with QAT and like.

As LLMs cannot do math.

dire igloo
dire igloo

#

I tried vibecoding, the joy of spending so much time correcting the mistakeshehe

#

I commonly see ads now saying we are somehow at the point of making apps without knowing how to code and like so vibecoding and the app is going to have how many bugs againhehe

twin dew
#

In that case, vibe-coding might end up with usable solution.
As in that you use LLM to generate the code to do the work.
But using LLM to do work that needs math directly just will not work.

#

In LLMs, 1 + 2 = 3 is no different from Apple + Orange = Cucumber
It has no idea of math, just tokens.

#

So LLM has no idea what 2+2=4 means, just that it is more common in its training data than 2+2=5.

#

So for common simple math questions, it will output correctly, as that combination of tokens is common in the training data.
For anything else, you get whatever random collection of tokens (numbers) instead.

dire igloo
dire igloo

So makes the false confidence issue with LLM outputs worse.

Ooh seems that that ZyXEL switch with dead 10G port has "EOL + 2 years" warranty, and not just 2 years.
So time to try for warranty.

*Limited Lifetime Warranty: Defined as the product’s lifetime from its launch and first supply in the EU region until the End of Life (EOL) announcement on the local Zyxel website

#

Because those dead ports seem to be from design fault, where they cook themselves or like.

#

And ZyXEL revised the design since.

#

As Warranty term is that, and then Warranty at EOL is 2 years.

#

TLDR: Don't use Discord to game integration features, gives the game dev full access to your Discord...

#

and yes, i understand the irony saying that on discord

twin dew
#

But seems I might have new switch incoming.
And I don't even need to send the old one back, unless they ask for it in next month.

#

The switch in question was bought in spring of 2022 and had been a display unit before I got it.

#

I have been very satisfied with ZyXEL warranty for these prosumer/low-end business devices in both cases I had to go through RMA.
Had to RMA another similar switch in fall of 2023 for another dead 10G port, but that might be have been mechanical damage from mounting screw head to PCB components.

#

But don't buy any internet facing ZyXEL products, consumer ones have very short software support periods and at least their VPN endpoints have constant security advisories.

#

In cases for those consumer routers, ZyXEL keeps selling them even when software support has already ended 🥹

twin dew
#

Oh, also, that ZyXEL support form had selection, Paraphased:
Interactions in: English (fastest), machine translated (fast), in your language (slow).

Lights, go to a node. Programmed to a universe. Nodes go together to a hub. Hub(s) goes to the main rack, witch is a bunch of switches. And rack goes to main panel.

twin dew
night girder

And everything a light does. like change color has it's own channel.

So some lights have 50 channel. One universe can handle about 500 channels.

so put up 10 lamps and you filled out the whole universe with 500 channels, which is crazy.

night girder

First time using it, so I am not in a position to judge.

twin dew
#

And basically the apps are bad imitations of the real things.

night girder
#

But simple things, like settings few lights to slider 1 can be a bit ... unintuitive.

#

First you have to select your lights (touch screen panel) AND hold shift button, then you need to turn them on, then you press record, then you press the slider button underneath. Then you press clear. And slide up to hope you got it correct.

But then you often use a program on computer to program those links between what to affect with that controls.

Early modems were devices that used audible sounds suitable for transmission over traditional telephone systems and leased lines. These generally operated at 110 or 300 bits per second (bit/s), and the connection between devices was normally manual, using an attached telephone handset. By the 1970s, higher speeds of 1,200 and 2,400 bit/s for asynchronous dial connections, 4,800 bit/s for synchronous leased line connections and 35 kbit/s for synchronous conditioned leased lines were available. By the 1980s, less expensive 1,200 and 2,400 bit/s dialup modems were being released, and modems working on radio and other systems were available. As device sophistication grew rapidly in the late 1990s, telephone-based modems quickly exhausted the available bandwidth, reaching 56 kbit/s.

Probably to;

# waxen pendant Canada stopped at 8mb

17 municipalities in remote areas here got EU-funds for fiber and then the investor pulled out after they figured out they don't have enough resources and time to cover areas with fiber. I feel sorry for like 180.000 people living there becase rural areas aren't profitable for fiber deployment unless you get government funds

We also have 3 major ISP's here and I work for one of them. Don't have a high opinion about my ISP though

#

And I hope my ISP/employer isn't reading this discord hehe

night girder
#

We have 2 major ones. Owning the country for decades.

#

And one new. But it's a foreign company.

Digi is the new ISP. But it's a Romanian multinational telecommunications company.

#

So we got like 2.5 ISPs.

Fucking sucks. (High prices for internet)

We had crazy situation here where we couldn't put fiber on the poles because there was a lunatic with a rifle running around claiming he owns the road

waxen pendant
night girder
#

Ok, I get a tiny bit better internet. But pay the same.

pure karma
#

im so lucky i have good wifi here

#

especially being in a small town on top of that

visual tree
#

I would usually pay around €33 per month for 1 gbit / 500 mbit but they give us €20 employee discount so I pay €13 in the end

visual tree
#

That's how they compensate for discount

night girder
#

Forgot about that.

visual tree
#

Yes but that's only for employees. Customers will pay €33

night girder
#

that's so cheap 😭

visual tree
#

And we get internal employee customer support for internet service which is said to be "better" than the one offered to our customers but they still manage to mess up even the basic things

#

My ISP app says the owner of my internet service is literally "Name Surname"

#

They managed to fuck something up 🤦‍♂️

#

And didn't properly register me as the owner

#

It is going to be so fun when I am going to need to call customer support and they will realize my name is "Name Surname"

night girder
#

Or if multiple people have "Name Surname". That's why sometimes you have like a client id.

#

I hope your ISP uses it 😄

visual tree
#

So much for the internal "premium" customer support. They can't even type in your name into the system properly

#

If a customer visits ISP center, employees will ask for your ID to verify identity. Can't wait when they find out about my name 🤣

#

"Sir, your ID says you are not Mr. Name Surname. Unfortunately, we cannot help you since we can't verify your identity"

pure karma
night girder
#

Or you have the whole company as "Name Surname" 🤣

#

"We find 378 people by that name..."

pure karma
#

liek here the problem isent that fiber isent for sale, its that is not physically in place

internet is just pricy here. even 33 i consider cheap

yea a new gigabyte conection here is like 120cad i think

#

and even then its not even 1000/1000 anymore

they downtiered it to 1500/500 which is useless

visual tree
pure karma

since people are only installing with cat6 that extra 500 is wasted and the 500 upload is lost

night girder
#

Well GDPR proof for sure 🤣

visual tree
#

I went out to open government portal where you could see who owns a real estate and confirmed the surname was actually "Person"

#

Whoever thought it was a perfect surname has lost their mind lol

night girder
#

"Person of Interest" 🤣

#

Would love to see them show up at an airport.

visual tree
#

At least it's illegal to name your child with random characters like Elon Musk did

#

The social service can actually take away your child if you named it like Elon Musk did

night girder
#

I am not sure what I think about that.
We should be able to name kids how we want, be creative and create new names. It's been happening all throughout history.
But then again, maybe there should be limits when it can cause harm (teasing, social problems, ...) to someone with a stupid name.

#

I wonder if anyone ever called their kid "NULL" 🤔

visual tree
night girder
visual tree
#

You definitely couldn't name your child X Æ A-12 here because of special letters and numbers are simply not allowed

night girder
#

How do you convince your partner to go along with such a name ...

visual tree
#

But it's funny how you could have a surname "Burger". There is a movie where a bully harasses a kid in school because of this

#

"His surname is Burger??? Omg, does he come with fries too?"

night girder
#

I think Jesus is allowed too no?

visual tree
#

I don't think anyone would mind being called Jesus hehe

visual tree
#

Not sure if you could take that name though

#

Would be funny if something crazy happened and everyone said "Jesus!"

night girder
#

also confusing as hell when you go to church and listen to church service

#

"And then Jesus said..."

visual tree
#

"I never said that!"

#

I'm glad my nephew is called David. He is ready to take on Goliath 💪

Doing it with Cat5e would be questionable at this time.

Cat6A would be 10Gbit/s to 100m.

in the USA there is oddly precedent in suits ove stolen likeness. Essentially unless you can prove they wanted to hire you to begin with your lawsuit will fail.

Scarlett johanson Was approached by a AI company to use her likeness and she said no. later they did it anyways and claimed it wasnt here and just a result of the large data set fed into the system. She won her lawsuit.

Other law suits that have tried to do the same without the prerequisite of the company asking for permission to use the likeness first has failed.

night girder
languid gulch
#

i think we have a fleet

night girder
#

That does make sense.

#

Wonder if they modified the helicopters to fly in heat 🤔

#

Decreased Lift

Hot air is less dense than cool air, which means rotor blades generate less lift in hot temperatures. This can make it more difficult for helicopters to take flight, stay airborne, and carry heavy loads – especially at high elevations where the air is already thinner.

Reduced Engine Power

Helicopter engines often struggle to generate thrust in high temperatures due to thinner air and limited oxygen. Unfortunately, this means overall power and performance is limited and the weight an aircraft can safely carry is greatly reduced.

System Overheating

Aircraft components (like engines, hydraulics, navigation systems, communication systems, and more) are vulnerable to extreme heat. Overheating can cause systems to malfunction or fail during flight, which is dangerous for everyone on board.

languid gulch
#

the big problem is that insurance won't let them fly once it hits 120

It cannot be really verified in any way.
You can try to ask AsRock Rack support for the files directly.
They do sometimes give them out, and that is how those login details etc. get around too.
Basically the helpdesk puts the files onto that FTP share and gives login if I understood correctly.

You can add anything manually.
And there are defaults to be set.

#

Or have they removed those default setting options...
Or where were they...

#

Ah, you can only select the default high-performance now, but not default power saving one.

#

But you can force any program/app to use any specific GPU.

#

Ok, seems to be just suggestion based on the small text.

#

AsRock Rack is preventing use of C6 idle on this MB...
Because it can cause systems with "bad" PSUs to crash the system, when the system power load goes too low.

#

Not explosing it in ACPI tables.

twin dew
#

Still idling at 15W for the whole CPU, so just have to take it as is.

wanton orchid
#

it was lower before ?

twin dew
#

AsRock in general has habit of disabling that to not get support requests from people with computers who cannot deal with the low power usage.
Including various AsRock Rack server MBs.

#

That that 15W for the CPU is low enough to not bother further.

waxen pendant

My asrock board in my nas was a pain do to power related bios settings

wanton orchid

#

I'm not sure what you meant changed about that then

twin dew
#

I just said they are preventing use.
No comment about if it was ever possible, just wasn't now.

#

And then that that has been common thing with AsRock over the years and product generations.

Both consumer and server side.

I think as someone else documented : you could set it, but it was not really doing anything ?

night girder

And so when does it require extra power?

night girder

Since it states "optional USB-C power".

twin dew

Single cable usage possible when the PC USB-C port can supply 15W.
But most can only deliver 900mA, not 3A.

So then you need extra USB-C PD 15W or better power brick connected to the aux power port.

For almost two hours last week, Meta employees had unauthorized access to company and user data thanks to an AI agent that gave an employee inaccurate technical advice, as previously reported by The Information. Meta spokesperson Tracy Clayton said in a statement to The Verge that “no user data was mishandled” during the incident.

Meta also bought Moltbook which later turned out to be AI agents whose behaviour was the result of prompt injection

I thought will maybe the model would have some awareness of the frames to make it all look better, but no this is basically taking a single frame only and asking ai to enhance it....this is so badtired_jace

So when we said this was ai filter slop, yeah that was pretty accurate

it literally only consider by a frame by frame basis, not in between, so it cant even keep frame to frame constituency, instead it takes a frame with motion vectors and does ai bullshit with it and this is the garbage we are getting

Japanese game coding strikes again:

apparently the vkd3d-proton patches (manual application) and different proton versions with experimental bleeding edge too didn't fix this bitcoin mining game called Death Stranding 2. The cpu insane usage (above 70% constant) and performance drops (under 60fps on high end gpus) still happens with any type of hardware, while i tested on windows 11 and cpu usage is lower than 40-30% (doesn't even reach tbh) and stable fps with RT disabled

yes, it's known. The game is spinning on "is network connected" in a tight loop on all background threads or something insane
apparently windows is very "slow" when doing those queries, so it probably thrashes the CPU less

the impact is pretty significant even in the main menu
first image unpatched, second image is with connectivity check patched out
