Public infrastructure is usually deep

#

This hole is 1 meter deep

#

While water and electricity is burried even deeper

night girder
#

That sounds like a very specific 3D scanner 🤣

visual tree
#

I feel sorry for people in US who only have comcast available since it holds monopoly in a lot of areas with no solid alternative

#

If there were multiple ISP's everywhere in US, I guarantee 100% their internet prices would be similar to prices in EU

tribal kraken
#

Same idea, different tech. Lidars actually are meant for large areas like construction sites, and are less accurate in detail. That is actually how you scan ground data for modern excavators 3D guidance systems. Leica Geosystems very familiar to me.

pure karma
#

only use i see for solar pannels is outages and even then you cant use them for that since they must power the grid at all times

visual tree
#

Here, you can lower your bills by 86% with solar panels if you obtain permit by the end of year. Those who get permit next year can lower their bills by 55%

#

With government subsidies, my investment return would be in 4 years

pure karma
#

4 years slaving away at maintaining them with nothing in return

#

and anywhere else its 8+ prettymuch

visual tree
#

They might not be worth it in some countries but they are 100% going to be worth it in my case

#

You get a return in a form of lower bills and total savings in 4 years will exceed how much you paid for them

#

Only need to clean them once or two times a year

night girder
#

ANd chat control got approved hehe

#

The "voluntarily" scanning, but what I read about it, it's the same law. Just more smoke and mirrors.

#

Now EU parliament has to approve it, and mass surveillance is a go go go!

#

How can a company make a risk assessment, without actually scanning the messages and breaking our privacy 🤷‍♂️

#

Only the Netherlands and Poland voted against it, fml.

#

and EU also wants to ban lootboxes, platforms and social media for -16 in EU.

#

Holy fuck ...

#

EU wants to remove freedom 🤣

#

All for the children, the animals and climate ofc 👍

#

reminds me of a article i saw that said canada wont exist by 2035 with how politics are going here and honestly i dont doubt it

night girder
#

483 voted for.
92 voted against.
86 dissapeared.

In EU for -16 ban on social media. It's only a raport at this point. So no laws yet.

pure karma
#

complete ban?

night girder
#

Yeah, parlement wants it banned. And all dark patterns. And all loot boxes.

#

Like, they want everything evil banned on the internet 🤣

#

But that's parlement, they can't make laws it seems haha. Idiots.

pure karma
#

thats teribble but makes total sense

#

social media lets peopel see trough gouverment lies and school and so on young

night girder
#

They argument is this:

97% of the kids use the inteernet daily. So it's an issue.

#

How idiotic of a reasoning is that hehe

#

Like imagine, that back in the day when the car was invented. People tried to stop it, because young people all got cars (young people tend to go witht he times).

#

It's just a bunch of old farts, not going with the time, not understand this is progress.

pure karma
#

yea ban curencies ban loot boxes but ban acess to information and the entire internet

#

heck nah

night girder
#

And also, how much of the world revenue goes into the internet? I bet it's a lot.

So a bit silly to spend so much money on apps, websites etc. And then be surprised it is so popular.

#

Also, schools all use "smart school" and shit. A website you need for school.

#

Goverments don't send me paper anymore, but all through a website.

#

I don't get it.. One the one hand, EU is forcing us to use the internet.
On the other hand, they don't want us to be on the internet?

pure karma
#

age limits have a negative impact long therm anyway

night girder
#

And I wonder.

#

They say 97% of the kids use the internet daily. Does that mean if they play multiplayer it counts as "use internet?"

pure karma
night girder
pure karma
#

yep

night girder
#

if 97% is scrolling 5 hours on FB as a zombie is a different story than 97% logging into a game for an hour to have funw ith their friends.

pure karma
#

i think social media should be lower than 13+ but higher than like 8+

#

its kind of a weird spot

#

13 is late and restricting to learning

night girder
#

Let's leave it up to the parents?

pure karma
#

well yea but thats not gonna stay for long

night girder
#

What's next? Goverment going to decide from what age kids can start to do a hobby?

#

Or what kids can eat at what ages? Like how far we go?

pure karma
night girder
#

Nah, I mean, if I decide that my son can have facebook at age of 12, that's my descision no?

#

Goverment != parents.

pure karma
#

i mean yea should be but thats not what the goverment wants

#

iv been using youtube since i was like 4

#

i learned like 90% of what i know from youtube and games

#

i literally learned multiplications from satisfactory bruh

night girder
#

Also, TV was harmful in the 90s for kids too. Nobody banned that.

#

So many kids, sitting hours infront of a television screen watching at some talking vacuum cleaner and some weird sun with a face.

pure karma
#

not having acess to that is basically a dictatorship

#

im not gonna start with minimum ages for stuff since thigns like sexual content kinda falls on morals but those are a net negative in most cases too

#

you cant just regulate everything that way

night girder
#

If my kid, goes out to play outside at the age of 6, they can encounter individuals that have ill intent too.

#

And then goverments are like, let's ban that kids can go outside if they are -16 hehe

night girder
night girder
pure karma
#

if you stick a screwdriver in a outled YOU asked to be electrocuted

#

if you searched for sexua lcontent YOU searched for it

night girder
#

If EU said; no sexual websites for kids under -16. I get that more . It's specific. It has a purpose.

pure karma
#

hot take it should be 13

#

since thats when sexual stuff aplies to you

night girder
#

Or 13, but it's specific you know?

#

Like no smoking. No alcohol under this age.

pure karma
#

yea i get it

night girder
#

You can't visit an escort if you are not 18+ etc. All very specific laws.

pure karma
#

cant live under 18 prettymuch

night girder
#

But lately, it's all so general and broad.

pure karma
#

if your alone and not 16+ your basically set up for death

night girder
#

The first 18 years of your life, you are not free.

#

And then they let you free, but expect you to work 40 hours a week atleast.

#

And then you get REALLY REALLY free. But you're so old they put you in a home 🤣

#

You know, I love my history.
Look at history, and tell me, when did censorship end well hehe

pure karma
#

dont know much of history but i can bet very few times

night girder
#

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prohibition_in_the_United_States

Remember that? Moonshine and illegal activities went through the roof haha 🤣

The Prohibition era was the period from 1920 to 1933 when the United States prohibited the production, importation, transportation, and sale of alcoholic beverages. The alcohol industry was curtailed by a succession of state legislatures, and Prohibition was formally introduced nationwide under the Eighteenth Amendment to the United States Const...

night girder
#

Mostly led to falls of civilizations, wars, etc.

#

And it's a slow process, it can take a few decades.

pure karma
#

figured so from how things liek comunism went

#

if you dictate people it wont last long

night girder
#

It didn't work in Roman times either.

#

And the romans were more free on certain things than people were in the medieval times.

night girder
# pure karma if you dictate people it wont last long

Yeah, I like to think of the people as water in nature, you can't control water that easily, you can build dams, but it will find other ways most of the times. It goes into the air, or into the ground, or makes new rivers.

#

and if you contain the water on all sides, the pressure builds up inside and eventually it gets free.

#

I love Bruce Lee when he talks water 🤣 Inspirational.

#

Basically he is saying. Adapt to situations.

#

god programming c++ on windows is such a horrible experience

#

do yall use VS solutions, cmake or what because none of the build systems really compare to the linux ones

mental oriole
#

you need a build system either cmake or something similar. I prefer premake though, because it's one file setup and it can generate vs solution if you are on windows or a gmake project on linux.

#

pro with cmake is you can depend on other projects more easily, premake does not have that feature. And you'd have to keep track of versions and stuff yourself.

@inner shale I like ICU its the best of some of the worst PC software lol

#

I like the EVGA and the Keychron soft ware though because they save to your hardware. then you can uninstall the software

my biggest issue With corsair is there own shifting standards

#

The keychron soft ware is browser based and you do not need to install anytthing

which is rad

If you want a cool macro pad but that is more Hobby/ custom Project the Adafruit MacroPad RP2040 is cool

The 8bitdo Retro keyboard is sweet

its more user friendly

it comes with gaint 2 inch diamter macro buttons

you could look for a used k68

Im to used to 84 key Boards. normal ones feel bulky and weird now

I dm'd you a macro pad that clips to your existing k100

You still can one day

#

Im hoping my current KB is my last. Its fully customizable and modular so if anything breaks including the board i can replace it

Basically there is nothing better unless you have metal chassis.
And that style works fine until the hinge gets too stiff with age.
And is easy to repair.

sharp matrix
#

Well not tonight I need to go find my mews first

twin dew
# languid gulch still using those cheap ass hinges

The cheap-ass version doesn't even have the metal inserts for the screws in the chassis, and instead just uses screws going straight into the plastic.
And in both cases the failing isn't in the hinge, but in the screw to chassis part where the chassis plastic fails with time and cycles.

twin dew

At least I got nice epoxy this time, with easy application of right amount of both components, and long working time:

#

I just cannot understand why it is so hard to get anything but 5 minute epoxy...

twin dew
#

As consumer.

fossil jasper
twin dew
#

Which is easier with fast glue than slow?

#

So if that was relevant, you couldn't get 5 minute fast epoxies, but you could get slow ones.
But it is exactly the opposite, everyone sells 5 minute or faster epoxy, almost no-one sells slower epoxies to consumers.

#

That specific one I'm using is nominally 1,5h for worktime from mixing.

dire igloo
# void pine m1 and above are all a scam

Passmark ranking is a scam.
Unlike UBM, their testing is at least fair, it's just super intransparent what/how they're actually benching with basically zero equivalency in real world performance

soft bloom
#

You know, I don't think it's correct to present it like that.
Because one very important nuance is missing: it's now someone launching drone at me.
Instead it's group of people with chain of command each making decision or following order of certain scale. Not a single one of them know that I exist.
At best I am collateral damage. At worst I am depersonalized enemy and other labels induced by propaganda.
But even then: not at any point there's a button labeled "x% chance person A will die - launch explosives". Person launching it doesn't think of this.
It would very different if they even just saw face of any civilian they put in danger. And even if they had full dogma about these people being an enemy, it's still a powerful stopping factor.
This is evident from how police officers react to situations when they have to open fire, even at armed people. (More accessible info). And in war most shots fired from handheld guns are not to hit, but to suppress.
Topic is somewhat explored in that game that got removed from stores last year (black ops the line?)
Fact is, when action is decoupled from people who can get harmed, it is much easier to make someone take that last bit of action that directly causes harm.
And this works on top of the ideologic depersonalization of "enemy".
You might think that it doesn't have any application to you, but I suggest you keep an eye on any situation when any of this happens.

Netflix is teriffied of tailscale because it's one of the few working mesh VPN's which tricks netflix into thinking you are in another household to bypass password sharing protection

Basically, I could place raspberry pi in my sister's apartment, run tailscale on it as an exit node

And I when I open amazon fire stick in my home and connect to my sister's raspberry pi as an exit node, netflix will see ip address of my sister's home network instead of mine

So it's a good meme? hehe

which is "code" that learned to do tricks.

When you posted that chatGPT was bad at creating memes.. The first thing I though was; because it doesn't have a concept of what a meme is.
The same issue with the glass full and AI unable to draw that.

It's getting better through years from my experience

Older AI youtube content was crap and now it's getting more realistic and people don't even know if it's real

my experience has been pretty horrible. Yesterday I asked how to code that a gun aligns to the hands. And not the hands to the gun. Which is a big difference.
It failed to do that and kept trying to guide me to align the hands to the gun with IK. And what it provides is 50% accurate at best. It guides you to things that don't exist.

Very rarely, it spits out a concept that I can google and look up properly. But I would never use it to code anything. Not reliable. Could be the AI I am using.

I spent last 20 hours in DS1 collecting materials to build highways

night girder
#

That one 🤣 It was so much fun haha.

#

You could steal everything and launch it in the air with a balloon.

#

You gotta respect it, making a fun game and also trying to balance a bit of realism.

#

Like most games that do this, go fully goofy. Also in graphics etc.

visual tree
#

I started playing 20 year old games because I feel like modern games have lost their soul

#

or maybe I am just nostalgic

night girder
#

Indie games keep me at it.

#

And a few niche games (not big studios)

#

To be fair, have you ever though about how to make a game yourself? And what you can do different without alienating the player?

#

It's not easy coming up with good ideas/mechanics, that are fun and refreshing. Let me put it like that.

visual tree
night girder
visual tree
#

I am not really experienced so I would probably make a crap game lol

night girder
#

Nah, you are a gamer. You know game mechanics.

#

For example, how do you handle doors?

#

Most press a key/button when near door and then door rotates to open/closed. How can you make it more interesting?
Maybe add lockpicks? Maybe make the door destructable so player can create gap to shoot through? Give player options to plant C4 to blow open door from far away? etc.

#

But all these mechanics. Are already done. Lockpicks you have in oblivion etc. Shooting through the door is Rainbow Six stuff. C4 also.

visual tree
#

If I wanted to create a game, it would probably be something like minecraft with house construction

night girder
#

Sounds like there are 10000 of thoise games now.

#

Hytale will be release in a few months.

#

It got stuck in development. Bought up. Stuck again. Sold again to previous owner.

#

And now they are going to release it as alpha and work from there. If I understood the whole story.

#

But it was meant to be the next minecraft (as in hype etc).

Warren Spector has since stated that OtherSide stopped working on System Shock 3 in 2019, and that they are now working on an immersive simulation based on a new intellectual property developed by OtherSide.[125][126]

Btw, I really appreciate fiber since I no longer get demotivated when I see I need to download 20GB update for a game on Steam/Epic when I want to play something

#

Now I can download it in few minutes instead of hours

#

This was a huge dealbreaker for me when I had vdsl. Simply gave up when I realized I need to wait an hour or more

night girder
#

Eh, I am used to it.

#

"Fiber is not available for you." 💩

#

we have 30% fiber available, EU average is about 63%.

#

Oh, we even got a slap on the wrist from EU because we're so slow 😂

pure karma
#

yea im so lucky to have fiber in a small town

#

you go 5 minutes any direction and the max wifi you can get is 5mbit copper

#

so having gigabit is SOOO nice

night girder
#

I can only imagine

soft bloom
#

Correct me if i am weong
But above/below average actually referrs to median aka top/bottom 50% (of all values sorted)

visual tree
night girder
#

I don't understand your question. Average and median are two different things no?. 1-1-1-3-10-10-10 ... median is 3 but average is 5.1?

night girder
#

It's one of these things that's out of my control, so I just 🤷‍♂️
Nothing I can do to speed it up or get it.

visual tree
#

I was considering starlink while I was about to lose hope but the latency would probably suck

night girder
#

Nah, that sounds silly to me.

#

I also have moral objections about the company, don't want to give them my money since I don't support their vision and how they handle things.

visual tree
#

I really don't like Musk in general but think in the terms of getting lesser of two evils

night girder
#

and waiting a few hours, or letting something download at night, isn't the end of the world to me.

visual tree
#

It's like when a local pc store is trying to rip you off and you decide to buy hardware from amazon because it's cheaper even though amazon isn't innocent

#

I just pick the lesser of two evils

night girder
#

well, the lesser of two evils sound subjective rather than objective.

#

no way to measure it.

#

If I had no internet at all, and starlink was my only option. Different story maybe. I think it has it's purpose.
But I have "ok" internet.

visual tree
#

I mean, I don't like how Bezos treats their employees but employers in Croatia are much much worse

night girder
#

Eh, Starlink is meddling in world politics. Totally different ballgame to me.

visual tree
#

I had great experience with amazon so far and they always refunded me when the package was lost, returned a product because I actually don't need it or it's damaged

#

Local stores here will always try to find a way not to respect your warranty and fix the product for free

#

I despise them from the bottom of my heart....

night girder
#

and he made some points that makes me try to avoid amazon.

night girder
visual tree
#

Lucky you. Certified repair centers here are a nightmare

night girder
#

I was kinda surprised too how smooth it went, ngl

visual tree
#

I remember how one "certified" repairman tried to scam me when I called him to fix a leaking dishwasher. He wanted to take the dishwasher with him and charge €100 for repairs. I declined

#

Then I called another certified repairman and he said he just needs to replace a bad rubber seal

#

That first one was probably trying to tear my dishwasher to pieces and replace original parts with spare ones while also fixing the rubber seal

night girder
#

you always have to stay vigilant

visual tree
#

People here think that "certified" means qualified and they can't scam you

#

I've seen first-hand that's a blatant lie

#

Like, if you need to repair a broken samsung galaxy phone and you bring it to a repair center certified by samsung, you would expect nothing to go wrong since it's certified by samsung itself

#

But unfortunately, that's not always the case and sometimes uncertified "back-alley" repair centers can be better if you know what to look for

night girder
#

I don't trust back alley repair centers

visual tree
#

Me neither but I get really mad when sometimes those questinable repair centers are actually better than certified repair centers

#

Like, you are certified, I expect at least some minimal standards

night girder
#

understandable

#

I told you the story of my local shop and how unhelpful they were.

#

I think because it's a village, they mostly do stuff for elderly people. Simple things.

#

And all I wanted was to test the gpu separate to pinpoint the problem and they said they didn't have motherboard. I had to bring my whole system they told me ... which defeats the initial test.

visual tree
night girder
#

I know I had little chance, because all they put out in the store is intel and nvidia.

#

There isn't a single AMD product to be found ...

visual tree
#

Around 15 years ago, I had a big problem with my PC not wanting to boot up. Visited one of the largest PC stores in a country which had a huge repair service. They "fixed" the PC and returned it to me but the PC would still not boot up sometimes. Then I demanded they fix it in front of me and they said it's probably a faulty PSU and I paid for a new one

#

Went to another repair service and they immediatelly diagnosed it was a faulty motherboard and the problem went away when I bought a new motherboard

#

So, I wasted money on a new PSU which was not even a problem

night girder
#

Yeah, the one thing I learned is. It's pretty darn handy to have spare parts to diagnose faulty hardware.

dire igloo
#

night girder
#

It's really a weird store to step into. And it's super tiny. About a year or two ago, I was talking to them when I had issues for the first time. And they immediately blamed AMD.
They have very strong opinions. But they are never helpful. That's why I never buy anything there 🤣

#

Like why wouldn't you help me, because I have AMD hardware, that's so weird to me.

visual tree
#

That's like Mercedes owners looking at everyone else like they are peasants and below them lol

night girder
#

This is what they have in store 🤣

visual tree
#

They better close the store if that's everything they have in stock lol

night girder
#

And this is what I get for searching AMD.

visual tree
#

My parents had it even worse. They had to type their graduation thesis on a typewriter and if they made a typo, they would have to start typing the page again from the beggining

Found an interesting use for it thought haven't tried it out.
Feed it all the rules of heavier board games and their expansions and searching smth would bring up all the places it's mentioned. Like CTRL+F on steroids.
Some rules just aren't well put together and one thing can be mentioned on different pages or I just don't know whether I should look into one of the 3 expansions rulebooks or the main rulebook.

#

One dude has put together a very good reference sheet for EU board game and without it it'd be unplayable. But even with it I haven't been able to play it much, too long for my table aka takes over a day.

dire igloo

I mean it would kinda be rephrasing or rewording during the search to find all the places it could be mentioned it without being word for word.
But I'd imagine it would work. People who fed Google NotebookLM the rules and then asked questions were still getting wrong responses so sadly can't do that.
