payday2 is an interesting case since it's a successor to L4D2 that turned into one of the most bloated games on steam by the number of actual content DLCs
and they just recently asked for subscription π
anyway, it is alive... 13 years later! with decent online that rivals many new games. they kept working on it, despite old engine and many inside troubles.
the thing was that people still were coming in and paying for DLCs. it payed for failed PD3

I did look into it, but you make me unsure again.
And this legal jargon is hard on my head atm.
"you're fine so long as you're not a success, in which case we'll be taking our cut"
It's not that black and white.
"You're fine as a little indie developer. But EA, Ubisoft, pay up".
and good luck navigating US law & GDPR
Just don't release in US? And don't hoard useless and private data?
I mean, the chance of it getting released is like 0.0001%. It's so much work.
I am more worried about my own country tbh. Need to find out if I sell anything, I should pay taxes π
Or that steam does that on our behalve. That whenever a game is sold on steam, it takes it's cut, then pays taxes for the country, then send whatever is left to developer.
Have a couple games listed on Steam - all sales have tax withheld in accordance with the locality in which the game is purchased.
But I still might need to pay income tax.
At least in US, steam handles sales tax but the business must still handle taxeson on income
exactly, same here. Income vs sale taxes. Two different things.
How many signals need to go through one side of headsets with microphone?
I Only found two on the side with microphone, and 2 again on the other without mic
So.far only found one things that confirm that both would need ground cable
Which means that side with microphone should run 3 cables...
Can you explain exactly what you're seeing?
for that right side
intact cable/wire with black insulation
thin twisted copper ... wire? with even thinner white core revealed (looks like copper shielding or whatever broke
copper thread mess that broke and has some traces or red for some reason, but spreading them appart doesn't seem to reveal anything else
looking further up (to the microphone and speaker) it looks liek that copper mess was like a shielding around the other two
while all that joints with twisted darker pair of what looks like black and greenish cable
on the top from left to right:
black cable, t
hat weird copper thing with white-ish core
some copper strand that feels kind of separate, 1 and 2
the left ear (twisted cables)
on the bottom left to right:
black cable (not the outer rubber)
hat weird copper thing with white-ish core
2 somewhat separate copper messes, left one is thicker and has some red stuff inside for some reason
like the classic rubber cable red color, except it's not solid and fractured and mushy?..
idk, that seems liek too much hustle to repair, but curiosity...
finally broke down and got something i thought i'd never get
a desk mount for a monitor
Deskmounts are nice
i had to hunt down one that'd fit around the metal supports holding up the desktop
and then back under
I got a weird problem. Whenever I open AMD overlay, to monitor my FPS. I get coilwhine.
As if, the overlay itself, pushes the GPU to 100%. Which is super weird.
And I know some might think I am crazy. But I read topics from people with the same issue.
This.
I have instant replay off though. It's really puzzling. But overlay pushes my GPU to 100%.
So whenever I want to see, how much is my GPU using in this game, and I open overlay, 100% -> coilwhines like hell.
Part of the Windows windowed mode optimizations.
Allows different windows and overlays to render at different rates, and then just the latest versions get merged together by the GPU just before final combined frame is sent out for display.
And seems that the AMD Overlay isn't acting sane and just updating each time the content changes.
That could maybe explain it.
Or have you set V-Sync to be always off in AMD Settings in general?
And not just when program doesn't specify?
I haven't done anything. DDU 3x yesterday remember.
So default as it gets. The only setting I disabled was this one:
And I forgot that the AMD Overlay doesn't do "every X" but actually changes every displayed frame at minimum, as the "Frame Rate" changes that fast, and it isn't averaged in any way.
Yeah, was about this one under Gaming, Graphics:
That's off by default?
Where people keep setting that Always Off for some reason or another.
And breaking stuff.
Yup.
So I need to turn that to always on?
on unless specifies is the next "safe" setting.
But no idea if there would be change in this.
Yeah, apparantly. I never noticed this on my previous one.
Because it was always whining like a baby. But now it's a bit quieter, but the moment I open overlay, I can heard to coilwhine sneak up.
So the pink line, the rise and fall, is my tabbing into my game.
the green rise is me opening and closing overlay
So it goes from about 80% utilization to about 90% just for a silly overlay?
I though, maybe AMD overlay is using more sensors inside the GPU, those get power, creating coilwhine.
Because this one is also new to me. So maybe different sensors?
Another example.
The bump is just opening amd overlay with 4 stats π€£
Let's draw with a billion fps
But is it the same coil whine as before?
Or just "normal" coil whine?
Because GPU at full tilt getting the normal "mostly static constant" coil whine is way too common thing.
Just effect of the coils construction.
Some specific GPU designs with the exact parts have higher likelyhood of it happening, some have lesser.
From the selected coil, and the exact VRM implementation otherwise.
But lot is also up to exact coil units installed, as part of the manufacturing variance for the coils.
and likely psu response I believe
(which will not remove it but can make it more or less obvious)
9070xt is tuned to burst if possible
at 7800fps high load it burst crazy and screech loud
both from gc and psu
How do I measure that π What is even normal coil whine? All I know is that if I have UE5 open and a game in the background, it ticks ticks ticks.
If I put everything to background, including UE5, ticks stop.
UE5 just pushes GPU to 100% the whole time.
This peak is 96-100% and happens when I tab to UE5 editor.
The peak going down is me tabbing out of UE5 editor to discord.
And yes, both GPU and PSU are ticking.
So maybe the culprit is Assrock motherboard.
And I kid you not, I went to YT yesterday looking for videos to listen to what "normal" coilwhine sounds like.
no motherboard
simply gpu bursting each frame
But euhm, that didn't help me at all π€£
Yeah, brand new GPU, makes sense.
it'll tick faster at higher fps
Coil whine is a high pitched sorta whistling noise than can be produced by electronics, particularly electromagnetic coils when current is passed through them.
And there are various videos and/or sound clips of that.
Well the previous ticked and system crashed.
New one ticks. Only matter of time before my system crashes.
Replaced PSU. Took out RAM sticks.
I did everything I can here. All I can replace at this point is motherboard and case.
You listened to those? Man ... they are not usable.
Didn't try to find good one yet.
Like the recording devices itself, changes the sound.
and good luck finding coilwhine for a 9070 XT with good audio quality.
tick are normal depending on load
as long as it's psu gpu your other components are fine
Main point is that it usually is pretty constant high frequency whine.
Where the actual load then can change the pitch.
Everybody, has been telling me for MONTHS. it's not normal.
So either everyone is wrong, or you are.
Depends on the interval, I understood in your case it to be significant, as in max few ticks per second.
Or less often than that.
People have either bad hears, limited power models, and or more insulated pc case
double check they are not forwarding your question to chatgpt
Anyway
gtx1080ti ftw3 evga would tick too
I even made an audio recording.
it's burst related
Yeah, I don't know π I just want stable system.
I hinted to check if it's directly linked with frame rate
if it is not there you have problems
And AsRock doesn't seem to have option to force PCIe power saving things off in their BIOS...
I provided the information.
If I open a game, put it in the tray*. Then open UE5 editor. I start to hear ticking.
If I open a game, play the game, no ticking.
background will reduce fps
frames are locked to 120 inside UE5 editor.
if it's a heavy game
And I posted what happens to GPU utilization, it goes to 100%.
not the editor
It's the editor making the GPU tick, or it puts some sort of load to provoke it.
Have you crashed with the new GPU yet?
No, but I did turn of my system yesterday evening. Because I just didn't want to know if it crashes or not. I wanted to have a good night sleep.
is the background game a heavy graphic game ?
Only started to stress test system an hour ago.
does it do the same without background game
Stress test = my specific setup of software that made the system crash after 10 minutes.
But remember Baldur, my previous system/GPU was also """stable""" at the beginning and just degraded. And that's what worries me atm.
No, not really. I haven't figured out why this combination crashes the system in 10 minutes. But it did. And since I finally found a way to make the system crash consistently, that's why I this weird combination of game + UE5 editor.
All electronics degrade while powered.
Question is if there is enough margin for that to matter or not during the time it is actually used, before being scrapped for other reasons.
And like I have said, some GPUs are manufactured "faulty" without enough margin.
This is load of game itself in background. CPU, RAM, UP/DOWN and GPU usage.
Same for other components.
tldr: some ticks are normal
it degrading hardware is not
it may still be your old components were simply too weak to it
But for some weird reason.
If I use that game AND I open UE5. It goes poof.
If I just open UE5 it takes a few hours mostly to crash.
That was just with the old GPU?
Or with the new too?
Old GPU.
Still testing with new GPU.
point I am trying to make, it's not because it doesn't crash in an hour. I am out of the woods yet. The ticking I heard on old GPU + old PSU/ AND new PSU. Is back.
and I was 99% sure ticking was related to crash, because on old GPU, it started with "quiet" ticking and went worse and worse untill it crashed.
Point is, don't panic just because of sound, if you don't have issues right now.
Need to see if you are in the clear or not basically.
The expectation about the old CPU was that it died to VSOC debacle overvoltage, as you hadn't updated your BIOS originally IIRC.
And isn't related to current issues.
Which are just bad luck to get something else that was basically broken from factory.
Two separate issues.
But I told you yesterday.
I can send the GPU back in theory. And get my money back. If it doesn't fix it.
But anyway, you right, I leave it running and see what happens.
One last thing, FU AMD for tripping me over the drivers. π
And ty Baldur for knowing wtf was going on π€£
If you search for drivers for 9070 you get this.
You have to click release notes.
Read the fine details to find out there is a fucking 3rd driver option.
It should be on the front of this page π
Yeah, with GPU, you get the RDNA4 drivers, with CPU, you get the RDNA2 drivers.
And the combined package is basically hidden into middle of the release notes.
Been same for years with AMD.
With the previous driver splits.
It's bad communication from AMD imo.
I don't think I am to blame. I read what they say. ANd they make it over complicated and NOT transparant.
Who goes to the release notes, to discover there is a 3rd driver option if you don't see it under drivers and software?
Yeah, it is horrible.
And even the pre-link text (that next line) is just bad.
AND the auto detect, didn't even fucking detect my iGPU? Which one would expect to be the outcame.
"Oh, your iGPU is RDNA 2, let me fetch a driver for that."
"Oh, your dedicated GPU is RDNA 5, let me fetch a driver for that."
Probably only coded to check until it finds first AMD GPU.
but instead, it just sets things up for my dedicated and ignored my iGPU.
Man, you really need a lot of experience with AMD products to get to know all their shenanigans.
And at least at one point, if you installed first drivers for one GPU, then other, the first installed driver would get overwritten completely by the second install.
AFAIK same with Nvidia, if you have both legacy and "modern" driver set stuff in same system.
But at least for them the legacy is so old you can just use the WU drivers and not care.
Also, don't upgrade to 25.11.1.
Adrenaline crashes for everything you change. I disable GPU acceleration in discord. Adrenaline dissapears.
Well it's the least of my troubles, but kind annoying that Adrenalin keeps disappearing randomly π€£
Worst was when I tried to get HD4350 and Vega IGP to work in same system...
That was impossible, as the drivers overwrote each other.
Needed to switch that HD4350 to HD7750, as the HD7750 and Vega drivers didn't overwrite each other.
Where HD4350 was legacy-legacy, HD7750 was legacy, and Vega was current.
Where that separate GPU was just for more displays.
Baldur, do you have any 10016 events in eventviewer?
Yes, possibly because that Profile delete fuckup.
I need to delete my current profile and recreate it at some point.
Here is reddit advice.
But DistributedCOM source events are normal.
I have specific issue with "The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID" etc. Warning.
Yup.
I looked up the CLSID.
For me it's this one, the application not registering to DCOM.
Was looking into it to see if that was the reason adrenalin magically dissapears from tray.
I think it's crashing without logging.
Ok, the secondary has them too, which doesn't have any issues.
All have near the end that application container is "Unavailable SID", which explains the erroring basically.
Something causing the resolution of the target to fail in Windows itself, so it cannot find the permissions.
π€¨
The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{2593F8B9-4EAF-457C-B68A-50F6B8EA6B54} <--- THIS IS THE ONE I AM SPEAKING OFF.
and APPID
{15C20B67-12E7-4BB6-92BB-7AFF07997402}
to the user X from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.
Yeah, but those first tell the source of the COM request, and the end tells the target.
And the source has valid information, target doesn't.
So the COM service fails the request, as it cannot find permission line that allows the source to make RPC request to the target, as the target resolved is invalid.
I have bunch of different sources.
And all have that Unavailable SID as the target in the warnings.
And then couple for Spotify as the target.
That was resolved.
I am not crazy!
AMD fucked it up it seems. Niiice.
But what we did get is AI.
This is making my ears steam. We got fucking AI everywhere in adrenaline.
And drivers that are garbage. Nice priorities.
And this is all in Adrenaline. The ad, you can't get rid off.
Well, enough ranting for one day. But I am done with AMD. Never again. Gave em 4 chances. 2CPU's and 2GPU's.
at this point, I think I have a right to say my AMD experience is shit and I wont recommend it to people.
Yeah, the splitting of RDNA1/2 from RDNA3/4 to different installers was completely insane, even if they wanted to split the code branches and have two different actual driver sets.
And 25.11.1 adrenaline just crashing out of the blue. And the overlay pushing GPU to 100%. And AI which nobody asked for. And high coilwhine because of the components they use.
Do you save money? Yes. But for all the money you save, you get years of headache π€£
Component selection is on the specific card maker for that model.
All I read is that AMD cards make more coilwhine. Designed. Or not designed, but regarding the components they use and the price they target for.
There is one more mystery to me. Yesterday I was reading a topic about someone having hard coilwhine, but they claimed that over the weeks. It dissapeared.
Now I am reading another topic, also claiming some sort.
And I was a technician back in the day at an automobile sound system company. What opens up virgin coils like a champ? Sustained heat and current.
So I got to work. I installed everything from 3dmark 03/06 to firestrike extreme (because I wanted tthe card to sing every frequency it can) and benchmarked.** For 24 hours straight. And this morning, I found out I no longer have coil whine in windows applications.** For games, it's still there. But noticeably better.
So I suggest everyone having coil whine issues to at least give this a try.
Possible.
As the coil whine is from the coil wire in the coil vibrating and rubbing in the coils, from changes in amperage throught the coil.
So if the wire changes positions etc. the sound can change or disappear.
As the amperage changes change the magnetic field, and that changing magnetic field causes forces.
And also why only true solution to coil whine would be to do the coil winding as wet process with epoxy, to glue all the coil wire in position.
You can try to tune the general VRM behavior and the exact coils used together to try to push the frequency above human hearing etc.
Cool. Well, I am not messing with it. Think that's wisest atm.
Cannot be glued after the fact.
Or tuned by user either.
All I did was enable vsync, because 100% GPU when landing on menu's in games is horrible π€£
I meant, doing the 3D mark stuff to heat up the coils for 24 hours.
Google updated Street View here. Time do to some online sightseeing of my city π
Well this is total bullshit for sureπ
I don't know whats worse Nvidia or Amd, well at least my nvidia drivers mostly work for the most of the time, so I guess Nvidia even though its literally swimming in AI bullshit also, at least driver wise seems to mostly be ok.
But really prioritizing AI over usable driver, yeah this is garbage indeedπ
How do you mean it's bullshit? It's my AMD experience π€£
So your saying not to get a AMD gpu, got it
Mhm, let's rephrase.
I not promoting to get AMD
If someone would ask.
Like I said, I gave AMD money for two CPU's and two GPU's. In two years?
Important distinction
And another problem. Now blender doesn't work.
And I think this one also points towards AMD drivers fucking about.
9070 XT, drivers from this month, but no openGL 4.3 or higher? Yeah ...
That is the OpenGL driver version that your PMs yesterday showed, while the driver install problems were ongoing.
So my integrated has it.
but my dediccated doesn't?
These screenshots are directly from Adrenaline.
After I did what you said, the dual driver thing for RDNA2/4. After I did a DDU.
So I am fucked? And can't run blender on a 600 euro GPU?
but can run it on a iGPU from a processor that is 200 euro.
install drivers of my drivers?
and what driver did you want me to run again?
Minimal? The normal one. Or the dual 1.6GB one?
Basically reinstalling whatever version you currently have over itself, without clean install or like.
The dual version.
I have had few times over the years when AMD driver installer has failed to install OpenGL driver, and rerunning the installer helped each time.
well the moment of truth.
Hole fucking shit π€£ What the f is this mess.
2 days ago I though, tomorrow I'll just do a DDU, install drivers, slap in a new GPU and go. Two days later I am still hitting issues.
the iGPU still has an older version, but I think that's normal.
Yeah, different driver versions now, for all the drivers. but that is to be expected.
But like, after you do a DDU.
One would think they are starting from a clean slate right?
How can it not install a driver?
Or you think windows might be fucking with it?
windows is 100% grabing drivers
I disabled it normally. On gpedit level.
Like I said, some kind of long-term AMD driver installer issue, never checked the installer logs to see what might have gone wrong.
Need to do that if I get hit again at some point.
Well
dear lord when did amd driver installer turn into such a hot mess
I realise how lucky I was with the drivers on the 6950XT π€£
but unlucky on the hardware department. They just worked out of the box and barely had issues with the drivers itself.
Oh wait. AMD dissapeared again from the tray π€£ Let's manual reboot it.
Ah, resurrected. The fuck. Why does it keep dissapearing.
and if only I had some sort of logging or something to go on.
Disappearing, or just going into the hidden icons part?
No, I have AMD set to always show on my tray.
And it just dissapears totally. Not under the ^ either.
and as in the reddit post mentioned, nothing in the event log either.
For a moment I though it was related to:
The server Windows.Gaming.GameBar.PresenceServer.Internal.PresenceWriter did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.
Oh wait Baldur, I think I might found something out.
Yeah, no it's dissapearing π€£
that was happening to me sme time ago, but recently is stable
I got a few theories.
findling around, I hear some cracking sounds in right ear while left s stable.
but it doesn't seem like just pressing copper-cable-with-white-core on itself makes that or bring full sound back, nor does trying differnt positions with black cable, nor does mushing together the copper mess
I am really puzzled
is it a good idea to cut these and see if burning well remove some kind of coating?..
Can soldering help?
Would need to first clean up enough to get actually protected wires on both ends, then solder the right ones back together, and then insulate them all.
He currently has just a mess of shorts and disconnects.
I hope there's no problem at actual places were cables meet anything more complex... biggest problem seems to be broken cable
burned that black cable - yep, actual wire inside completely broken
Ground, left output, right output and mic.
the other one somehopw has thin copper inside that thing white coating that was under copper 'shield'
shouldn't right side have 3 cables though?
left outout and 'left' ground seem to be good
Depends on the set.
If it split earlier, then you get ground and channel to the other side.
And then ground, channel and mic to the side with mic.
And usually the ground is around the other conductors as shield at same time.
So you would have insulator, ground and then two or three insulated smaller conductors inside the ground weave.
(comparing to another headphones, where ears are connected with an arch, in these earphones left ear is stable, while those headphones there's a problem at minijack where slight twists can shift sound between ears, almost like a dial)
oh, that might be that copper mess
Yes.
Basically good quality audio cables have the ground as weave around all the other conductors, which then have their own insulation layers.
Bad ones just have each as separate normal conductor.
And then there might be fiber pull string inside, to handle some of the physical forces.
cloth fiber or like I mean.
what I don't get is why there's one cable with it's own tight copper threads shell
Might be that mic.
Separate ground from the split for it.
To not get noice from the audio output on the mic line.
well that's seems to problem to me π hence why I suggested soldering them together.
instead off bunching with the tiny copper cables themselves. But I wouldn't fuck with it and just buy new.
Not going to work very well like this π
π
you can kinda see the helix on that copper cable that is third on the bottom
But basically would need to cut the whole bad section out, and then restrip for repair.
I looked up samsung wired earphones and found just 1 model with usb-c...
Trying to do anything with that mess is just lost, as there are shorts near and possibly under that remaining outer insulator at both ends.
what ends?
Basically would need to cut somewhere over here.
The stuff nearer is just a mess.
Or at least strip the outer insulator off to that position and have better look.
every time I try to cut more of insulator I damage that copper shielding, little threads falling off
Then you are doing that stripping wrong.
or might be dull blade?
hoenstly, idk how to do it best in this case, since rubber stretches a lot
Any cut to that outer insulator from the outside with tool must not end up actually through it, so it contacts the copper.
hehe, I wish I could do that
Cut most of that broken insulator away.
Then make cable direction short cut opposite side of the opened part.
Then pull the two strips apart, until the cuts go far enough.
Then cut the excess inside out, or with wire stripper or like, one side at a time.
Repeat if necessary to get far enough, if one side breaks off.
par for the course
opposite side of the opened part.
that I didn't understand.
the first part seems like cutting parallel to cable.
but getting through is the hard part
I mean that you have protruding stub of insulator, where there is already one cut from the failure, in the right side of the pic, where the stuff has come out.
You make second cut on the opposite side, so you get two opposite side stubs of about same width.
And then you pull those apart from each other, so the cuts progress onwards.
And you can help that by making shallow cuts on the insulator, even tiny bit helps a lot, not even to half of the insulators depth is needed or suggested.
And just visible intendation is often enough to guide.
hmmm, I will it a go a bit later
the goal is to get enough pristine inside to twist damaged cables back together, right?
there's like 1cm out on each side atm
Basically need some undamaged portion of all the inside conductor insulators visible, on both ends, as the first step.
With the surrounding ground pushed to one side in controller manner.
or grounds, if that mic conductor has its own ground and internal conductor too.
yeah I don't get why they allow grounds to touch hehe, seems questionable
But basically you need to find where the insulator damage ends.
and worried that atm right side hangs on the tinies copper thread I ever seen
Because the connector only has single ground pin.
That is shared by all the other channels.
blac rubber insulator damage or copper ground damage?
in both cases likely whener I tried last cut tbh
The smaller conductor insulators.
yes but then why make spearate structure? if it's shared.well maybe it does help noise anyway
If mic is separate coax (ground outside, signal inside), that is to protect that low power signal from the high power output signals.
oh, they are likely just good
the copper inside one of them broke (black cable, likely for right channel - after burning insulator it just went appart with nothing holding it unlike white cable likely for mic)
and copper shielding ground broke
Point is, you don't have visible insulators for any of the conductors, outside the outer shell, and that single black one, that you say is broken anyways.
that whole section is near junction. whenright ear stopped workin, I noticed terrible twist with almost 90degree bent... it twists a lot somehow despite frequent untwisting, but looks like it worn down
So you need to strip that outermost insulator, until you have the inner insulators actually visible, to point where they don't have damage.
hmm, just to verify
left side is in it's own twist and working, so I basically don't think of it
the right side has copper obviously broken
black cable we talked about
and mic channel with copper helix, white coating inside, and intact copper thread at the core
what am I not accounting for here? I mean, I am not sure when do you suggest to stop aka what I should see and be like "aha, no more outer insulator cutting"
And none of the copper matters, if you cannot reinsulate them from each other.
Which requires to have enough of all the insulators visible, intact insulators.
Which requires you to strip back on that larger outer insulator past the damaged section.
Basic idea with normal coaxial cable, but you don't want to cut any of the copper at this point.
All layers need to be visible and the concentric insulators need to be cut at different levels.
But don't cut any of the copper. Edited previous too.
You need around 5mm of each insulator visible to put any kind of tape or like around it and the conductor, without gaps in the new insulation.
so, I cut further to have more cablesvisible
remove coating from black channel , twist it to connect, insulate
repeat with white one (since I did burn it....) for the mic,
then somehow connect copper ground and wrap it around/run in parallel
And then add final outer insulation
Question: manufacturer claims I have Simplex patch cable LC-SC/APC OS2 G657A2. One end is apparently SC-APC and the other end is LC/APC. However, the LC/APC connector is blue
Isn't blue supposed to be LC-UPC?
hard to tell which is blue from iamge tbh
It's blue:
I could easily buy upc to apc adapter. Just not sure if the yellow cable has wrong color which is not according to standard
Forgot I could have simply unplugged it and checked if the tip is angled or flat....
ms-gamebar-annoyance.bat
I was more wondering if it was related to AMD dissapearing mysteriously π
I might be stupid or unskilled
but i feel like I overburned copper wire inside channel somehow?..
an dI am not getting any success on continuity test of copper threads
might be that grease or whatever is present under outer insolation they all got covered with
hehe, going further up (well, for sound it's probably down; for mic - up), it almost seems like that copper helix cable actually has red covering... but it only present as trced going to minijack. that's with about 4cm from junction to earbuds and 3cm from junction to minijack
I was so devastated that I can't find the spare exact headphones that I forgot to check receipt... I could have given them to service
found one palce where they might still be in stock, and somehow it's cheaper then in previous one, but, service term is just 1 year, not 3

Can change depending on ISP firmware, also can be changed, so have you reset the settings with the reset button?
I held it for 5 seconds while it was turning on
Also you need to be in same subnet to connect, so if the computer isn't getting IP by DHCP from the device, you cannot connect without manual config.
And that DHCP would also show the modems actual current IP as the default gateway.
And the guides say to keep that reset button down until status led goes off.
With expectation of 10 seconds needed in others.

and hating pressure on ears...
there's not much what can compare with utility&reliability of good old wired minijack vacuum buds
I feel like I found an obscure way to overload laptop's wifi module since it seemingly breaks VPN connection while doing... certainactivities.
Or you are just causing EMI issues in the antenna wires.
Usually that has been limited to desktops with dGPUs.
Something in the computer emitting interference at the right frequency, causing that to act as radio jammer.
Have you moved those antenna cables at some point and they don't follow the original routing anymore?
Anyone has Unifi Dream Router 7 (new version with sfp port)? I was thinking of getting Cloud Gateway Fiber but opted for DR7 since it has WiFi and I could connect it to existing Unifi AP 6 Plus in order to extend WiFi coverage in the house
And don't recommend other brands. I unfortunatelly have Ubiquiti addiction and can't get rid of it
It happens even on eco mode... On laptop that even when charging consumes less then 80W
Ubuntu still reports wifi connection as on, yet vpn is stuck at reconnection, and without reconnecting to wifi it doesn't fix itself.
Hm, on laptop?
Yes, inside the laptop.
But with Linux, I would expect driver and/or firmware blob version issues with the exact WiFi config you are using.
If not Intel WiFi card.
might be, there were some problems before
so far the suspect is doing that 'thing' wth network activity since when it is in specific mode this problem rises couple times per day,
and when it's less persuasive - it does not
So, if I remember correctly,
Images/videos data, for display, is mostly encoded as rgb value for every pixel, with various precision for each r g b values, and ofcourse various resolution. And this is the foundation of how video signal is transmissed. Various optimizations on how to comrpess that data, especially for streaming, don't chang| that in the end it's rpesented like this.
And thus, software or hardware that captures image data has to work with rectangualr grid and record intensity for 3 colors. While hardware for display has to decode these to whatever created image for viewing. Be it lcd, cathode ray tube, or various projectors.
And basis for this was that essntially eyes have 3 color cones, and thus we can just encode information of how much each is stimulated, essentially tuning the way data is stored specifically for humn eyes (well, most common one at least).
Which is infinitely less complex then recording spectrogram at each tiny area where light hits. But at the same time, that's a data loss we agreed to ignore. Not even accounting for polarization nuances. And buggest elephant in the room is that when we llook with our eyes in any 'scene', we focus only a tiny bit of overall fov, everything else is not perceived, and even just moving eyeballs around changes how light falls on retina. Eyes focus light, some get scattered.
But when ee project image, add some loght emmision, after it got focused with a camera lens, we do that focusing yet again...
Choosing what is focused on image is a restriction that changes perception. After already restrciting fov to some rectangle. And only encoding data of some 3 color intensities. And erasing any polarization data. And ignoring for the most part, excistance of 4th cone (i know it's not a cone i forgot a word).
And in the end, qustion - why does it even work?
Anton made video blabout double helix discovery's history.
Interesting how the photo51 is excatly that, and for some reason that pattern is engraved in my memory as bw x-files logo
Well, for most photo cameras, yes. Because their job is to capture what humans perceive.
The fourth type of light receptor in the eye iirc only registers light intensity - something that you don't need an extra sensor for in a camera.
For stuff like space telescopes however, no.
Those have a specific range of wavelengths they take pictures of which is mapped to the humanly perceivable range of wavelengths for publication.
It's a trade-off for sure, but the same old tale of "good enough is good enough".
It's just not worth it to include infrared or ultraviolet spectrum in a photo if all you want is to show other humans what it looks like
Heh, wasn't even talking about limitations of spectrum, more about how digital cameras try to crop spectral information with, ideally, how much each cone should be stimulated.
Yep, 4th cone is probably (unsure) getting same stimulus from just emmiting 3 colors back from lcd...
I am just saying how different viewing even actively lot image (screen) is from being in a scene. Especially with double-focusing 'dance' (frist on film/sensor and then on retina).
I didn't fully give up on headphones though, too curious about how to make thatwrk but having continuity test fail on naked copper wires makes me question if my assumptions are right
I have visual snow thing
Being in a dark room is not a vomplete black, but an ever changing noise sorr of like what you see on a phone with high iso in dark scene... Except different.
When those not-cones are activated before I can detect color it feels quite different from noting slight chnages in color.
I remember for sure that they are more sensitive in darker settings, when 3 color cones get almost no activation. Which means that eith lcd you can't imitate that level of darkness?.. that's speculation cause you could imagine that very low rgb values might give smae effect, but then it breaks the basis upon which rgb was built and implemented for.
Hehe, there's always a rolleccoaster of "wtf is that? Need to study details" - "i understand how this works with this model and nuances don't matter"
More like "this model is good enough to form an understanding without specific nuances, good enough for me"
Also need to remember how long ago that RGB model was implemented, when HW was way less powerful and every bit counted.
Originally with lot less bits per color.
Also that it is basically the physical implementation in color displays since they came a thing.
So also production constraints etc.
So first working prototypes during WW2, and Color NTSC was standardized in 1953.
Holy fucking shit
tbf, comparing one single model isn't accurate
plus, Corsair dominator is quite overpriced
insanity
This is the corresponding graph for that kit's equivalent RAM prices (2x32gb ddr5-6000)
Definitely spoiled, yeah
Spending the big bucks on some big bling
i mean, not me personally, but someone did π€£
$278 for 2x32gb was already a lot back in January according to the graph
Actually, it doesn't look that bad for 64gb, wtf?
https://pcpartpicker.com/products/memory/#sort=price&ff=ddr5&Z=65536002&xcx=0
Choose Memory
i mean, not at the moment
but $300 was basically the max back in january
now it's the floor
Yeah, but with 32gb starting at $190, that's actually not horrible
for the moment
assuming you can get it
the price is there, but i bet a lot of people are getting the "there's been a delay in shipping you your item" emails
Marketplace listing, sold by Racerspeed Inc. and ships from Amazon.
Estimated delivery is this Sunday (tested with zip code 60402)
Condition New
So third party seller who just hasn't updated their prices to scalp over their own buy-in price.
For already bought stock.
The place of "good enough" always shifts with how much your now.
Easy example is fps mania. Hoe people where fine with 24 for decades, then we got 30, then came 60, and at some point everyone wnated 90 120 144, 240, 360, 500...
"Good enough" shifted from 30 to what 120 now?
So yeah, it's just a question of time when we will be looking back at rgb entirely thinking "meh how could we look at this at all" and others will be nostalgic implementing rgb limitations into whatever comes next.
Very unlikely that it will change.
As that would need overhauling every level of the stack from displays to software.
We have just kept widening the color gamut and bit depth.
Yeah, that's what I also was talking about. It sort of defined how we record, transfer/store and display video/image.
Even though sensors and maybe even displays differ at exact placements of r g b sensor and emmiters/filters. (Not equal area. Afair for some reason it works better to have more green)
Still sad that we didn't develop holograms far enough
We used film before, somehow got to digital despite that
Color film is already same.
For using specific wavelengths.
With 3 colors for most common, then some exceptional ones with more.
I mean as example that we did change way of recording, storing, transfering and displaying that image data, already. With film to digital transion.
Yes, but point is that for such move to take place, there needs to be huge reason for it to make it.
Oh we probably find it
Being able to display few hues accurately in common usage that current three-color solution cannot just isn't one.
Need something else, that just includes also change in the color solution.
As soon as some big investor finds new tech there will be every second tiktok talking about how this new technology is so much cooler then rgb, life altering, so fresh, completely changes what you feel etc.
I see what you are saying
Well, if holograms could develop into full color, being to change perspective without wearing vr goggles would be a worthwhile upgrade
Even if not for most cases though
But media... websites do utilize vide range of mediums from plain text to audio and video.
Comouters grew from text terminals to multi-media stations
Inagine Tenet but where you can change perspective slightly and find a couple clues in every scenes upping require$ rewatch count from 5 to 20? π
Also, to go to more "accurate" over RGB, it would almost certainly need that the whatever the new thing is, that it wouldn't cost significantly more to add more.
If you still needed per color components, that almost certainly will not happen even if there is major change in display tech.
And even if it wouldn't, if the spec committee doesn't contain right people to push for that, it might not get in just because of inertia.
Same with recording audio landscapes actually
I don't think many smart griupa of people are much approving ai slop yet it finds it's way somehow...
Real question is in selling ide in the first place, next it's up to idea to hold it's place.
is it not?
Bold companies can push change through market coverage.
You're confusing "people in charge" with "people that know"
I hope standard commitees contain both
And as for ai... Yeah, we know how far they can be
And when to get benefit, you need the whole chain from capture, to processing, to display to be of the new tech, which would currently be more expensive even without "much smaller production runs", as there would need to be more stuff.
And that benefit would be tiny for most use.
Because both spec committee members and AI-obsessed CEOs will decide on stuff they most often don't know well enough to make decisions without external input
So camera sensors, camera processing, storage, OS, image processing stages, GPUs/image output, all parts of monitors etc.
You'd also have to make some form of backwards compatibility.
If your cool new camera can take photos that no monitor can display, it's useless
That is just image processing thing, in both directions.
Not that hard really.
So for a new technology to be adapted, you have to allow for gradual change - or force a sudden one
To sell benefit from upgrdaing iphone is not a problem,
Same with making anime-style of nay picture you took or able to write below-averge code...
Selling benefit to people is the least of my concerns, hehe.
But basically would need sudden change, all layers at same time, otherwise there would be no benefit, only negatives from having part of the chain in new "more accurate multicolored" thing.
I'm still amazed by the abundance of HDMI in consumer tech compared to Displayport
Not that it would need to move out suddenly, but all the parts of the chain would need to get support at same time.
Scientific imaging already uses lot more channels, but they just get converted into false color for display as needed.
As normal RGB.
Also, this processing would need to provide a quality that is at least on par with current tech, ideally better.
cuz if movies recorded with the new camera tech look like shit in common TVs, people will complain
And if conventional photos and videos look shit on new tech displays, people will also hesitate to replace them
HDMI Consortium was founded by the large consumer electronics companies.
DisplayPort is by computer (parts) manufacturer consortium.
And if the "this will look four times better" tech looks barely any different, people will also stick with what they already have
Yeah, RGB has just issues with some very uncommon hues, and can display even those, just not accurate.
Some purples etc.
And those are then also minimized in TV, Cinema etc., basically already checking before use how they look in the actual final recording, and not using the direct human view as the baseline.
Same as with black and white sets of past, that often look very weird in color.
As the colors of everything were selected to look good in pure grayscale after recording.
Well, if current one is just picking 3 wavelength and their intensity....
Wait, it's kind of is, but that doesn't directly translate to out eyes actually.
Hmmmmmm
You can sample specter at more intervals, that's kind of easy and menas that you just put 'sensors' in addiotion to ones used before. And sorr of rand more channels in the data.
Benefit should be that on supported display you get better color accuracy that doesn't just overlap 3 wavelength but gives you richer spectrum.
That doesn't sound like much, but somehow people are sold on 8 to 10 bit increase so... Will see. (hehe, to be fair, I do like 10 bits, but only because it aas affordable to me)
Is it only three specific wavelengths?
I thought it was a range of a couple nanometers for each color
Which is tiny part of the spectrum between them.
Basically limited by our tech to capture and emit.
And monitors are very sloppy for most part.
On that emit part.
Yeah, I know, I just don't believe we're using monochromatic tech here
But basically thighter the better, for both parts.
We just cannot do that economically.
Would be interesting to use full-spectrum tech that attempts to recreate human perception
For example the color spikes and overall for some specific high-end Sony OLED:
Is it? I would like to see that. Well, my knowledge on camera sensor may be outdated, but even then it would probably account for majority of tech used/supported...
While i was writing that idea I realised how much of it might already be implemmeted at places, it doesn't feel far fetched at any place except for wide adoption.
Tho I guess that'd be kinda useless since "this is how a dog sees the world" images aren't particularly interesting in the context of "this is how a human sees the world"
Then worse tech with just white OLEDs and then phosporus for other colors:
In reality blue OLEDs.
Some specific CRT:
All colors causing spike outside visible spectrum.
It might be where the color "filters" and other postprocessing get an edge by doing weird shaman dances around captured data to make it look better.
All those vivid colors and stuff. But it brings question of "does htting red cones with more intensity of narrow range wave same as hitting with smller intensity wider range?" Probably no.
Basically would need shitton of different lasers for each frequency of light, in tight enough intervals.
With our current tech.
And AFAIK we don't even have laser emitters for most of those currently.
Because there is limited number of atoms/molecules that can be used in laser emitter to get the actual emission with usable power usage and lifetime.
I recently got question: hoe many materials do we have that can receiev loght in one spectrum and rehemmit in the other?
It should come down to just atoms/molecules in materials - specific energy states of electrons (which are possible for them to bounce between)
There are uv markers for starters
Like seen, most end up very spread out if you try for that.
In theory the actual Quantum Dots can do it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_dot
Quantum dots (QDs) or semiconductor nanocrystals are semiconductor particles a few nanometres in size with optical and electronic properties that differ from those of larger particles via quantum mechanical effects. They are a central topic in nanotechnology and materials science. When a quantum dot is illuminated by UV light, an electron in the...
Not to be confused to Samsung marketing Quantum Dot displays for most part.
They do often use quantum dots as phosporuses, but with not that good quality control, so the actual spread is much larger.
Samsung Quantum Dot LCD
Blue with direct backlight, other two with quantum dot based phosphorus.
Samsung QLED Q9, year model not specified.
Also, actual Q(uantum) LED is QDOT type thing that is actually the original emitter, Samsung marketing just stole the name for different thing.
Hm, dynamically changing emmition pick could be a cool optimization
But not doable with known realistic tech.
As all depend on combination of exact material and in some cases on those nanometer scale dimensions on top.
For that spectrophotometer used to measure those display output spectrum, those have one sensor that reacts to whole spectrum, and then shitton of different filters, one for every 3.3nm of spectrum it can measure in that i1 Pro:s case.
And the combination is then calibrated with known samples, individually per device.
Btw, integral imaging - exists
Just adds extra lenslet array to normal sensor or display.
No change in how color capture or reproduction is handled.
Yes, doesn't help color.
I was just pondering about light field capturing, and asked gpt what can it associates with the topic
So integral imaging is new to me
And I would expect that the displays would need the eyes to be at exactly right positions compared to the display for that to work properly.
And if it's possible to capture lightfoeld of many wavelength samples , that's woud be pretty much indistinguishable from real experience
There link on wiki to Japan tv company presentstion from 2010
Mm, quite opposite, idea is that you can change perspective.
But see, with rgb grid it's quite cumbersome
400x250 lenses grid
7680x4320 pixel grid
For 24 degree viewing angle
Hmm, there are already 3d hologram dynamic displays
And Qualcomm is already shitting on Arduino:
https://itsfoss.com/news/enshittification-of-arduino-begins/
https://www.molecularist.com/2025/11/did-qualcomm-kill-arduino-for-good.html
Programs, too. We literally calculate and do math with r, g, b values
so that would need manually rewriting to do better than emulating old colors
Included that in the "image processing"
honestly better question
where tf did they all go
idk about in europe but here the only place you can order a dp to dp cable is the often scam ones on 'amazon
in store they dont exist, in trustabel online stores its all adapters not cables
afaik about as well as on windows?
had no big issue back then i had to subsitute with my A380
windows itself? mostly woks on laptops, sometimes on desktop in my experience
really depends on the type of key
Should have gone AMD Maxeek
if you make a backup of your home folder it's a breeze
i heard a story about somebody syncing therir config with git, so they could git pull everything
otherwise it's as alwys a question on how much customization you did
my systems are 99% amd, everything runs fine π
What do you need? I got a 6950 here for you.
everything temp should go in /tmp anyway
otherwise it is on the app to do it
mine are also 100% amd, nothing runs fine
I joke.
Just know, that you, and* me, or not correct π€£
one for system-wide, one for the user
check %appdata%, there is 3 folders there π€£
And until this day, I haven't found a logic in it. I find game folders in all three of them π€·ββοΈ
I think there is a logic, but developers just do what they do.
local stays on the system
roaming moves with the user in a enterprise environment
at least that was the intention in the beginning
"local for apps with lower access" accoring to an article
Yeah, there is always the architecture.
And then you have developers just wanting stuff done and not caring π
Yeah, finding videos recorded in documents. When there is a video folder.
It's a mess. And they aren't going to fix it. They can't. It's just too much spaghetti at this point.
windows is 90% for corporate, 10% for home users
normal devs rarly think about why something is the way it is in windows
naahh too stable to diss honestly lol
same for games not puting saves in appdata yea
i bet it does and just no one cared because the power draws arent high enough
because i can sya the exact same about my 13700K
should be in the game folder honestly
im tried of bloat in documents cause you cant uncheck documents from onedrive so it just fill onedrive with random bullshit
like gee thanks i really need those cyberpunk benchmark results in my onedrive
i just learned you can change the colors of folders
idk my sf screenshots are in documents
i use snipping tool for everything
its a problem
i have a screenshot bloat epidemic
i have like 5000
i have 1200 even on my laptop
ltsc is very clean
thats about a rate of 3 screenshots per hour iv even used it π
I nuked Paint π€£ Fuck the AI bloat everywhere.
i spared paint for the lols
Nah, I am good. If I wanted advanced Paint. I would use photoshop or photopea (free photoshop).
it's a 15min old install. paint is even the old, non winapp app
The benefit to me of paint was lightweight for quick drawings, but now with their AI stuff it's not lightweight anymore to me π€£
like this is what i have on my laptop in therms of bloat (minus dolby and realtek since they keep reinstalling themselfs without consent
)
and snipping tool can draw too π
yea snipping tool is the poor mans paint
its nice to make arrows and point things out tho
i did i uninstalled literally everything it would let me
Like, who was asking for this? Who is their targeted audience?
I suspect they add AI, just because. Like fucking AMD. Why? Nobody knows. But we can. So we add it.
I can't wait for AI hype to blow over and go to the next trend. Happy we got rid of NFT hype. But this is even worse.
yea like i cant even uninstall bing
you should.
everything good is always grayed out
that's weird, I don't have bing ...
cant do it through the old control pannel either since its not one of the options
oh, you right, but that's only a link to microsoft bing afaik.
16.0KB = link or something. It's not really installed.
i nuked that through reg edits
Don't ask me why. MS bullshit.
Installed 3 days ago, ty Microsoft. Maybe they added it with update and forgot the uninstall.
any searches just come up as blank if it dosent exist
Magic.
its so nice
you wish
Terminate. And then try Uninstall.
It was also greyed out for me, but somehow it's not under advanced after I terminated it π
Oh, now I can uninstall everywhere.
You just have to terminate it first.
terminate button does nothing
yea like i can nuke edge
Powershell:
Get-AppxPackage | Where-Object Name -like "*Bing*" | Remove-AppxPackage
```?
but its just going to come back and everything is gonna be broken to heck in the meantime
so i have it banned from running when im not tabed onto it
basically giving the same result
its probably region based
like baldur for example can just uninstall edge directly if he wishes probably cause of diffrent laws in finland
maybe?
not quite. there are diffferences in preinstalled language packs and or software that you might not be able to change later
the msstore vlc version was trash anyway
Yea i know that
I just mean when you give it your location or set it manually
that too
they can effortlessly get our location in tons of ways
i still cant get over the fact that giving notifications about notifications is normalised now
maxeek what did I say about icue...
should be. otherwise check memory space in the device manager
could be just the cooling solution
I was thinking if it's possible, to use my reset button on my case, to turn on/off RGB.
also there is open source alternative for RGB, better than iCUE imo.
openrgb has plugin for that.
but hey, if you want to use iCUE use it, I don't think I am goign to change your mind anyway π
Look, a "floating" case π
Now that I have an option for 1 gbit connection, I should try geforce now π
My strategy: use rtx 3060 ti for games which can run it on 60 fps and use geforce now for more demanding games
I wonder if you can bake eggs or grill your bread if you put it in the gap. Maybe that's the purpose.
If you've seen floating table, you could make a similar thing with a computer case
trying to ramp up costs any% speedrun
I am not sure about it, doesn't look very pretty imo π (the case I posted)
129 euro also.
You do get this "cool" rgb effect in the gap.
also, another place/platform to dust off π€£
Also, the brand name is "cougar"
which in the american language, means something else.
Germans would say: "Oh great, another dust collector!"
and call it "ein teiger" π€£
Here we call cougar puma
I think Cougar also means pretty women of certain ages.
The cougar, also called puma, mountain lion, catamount, and panther, is a large small cat native to the Americas.
Fucking US.
They gave it 5 names!
large small cat.. wtf is a large SMALL cat.
or is it a small large cat?
or maybe a medium large small cat?
I only know Puma mostly of the brand. I think I would call it a panther. I never heard of a catamount, I did hear of mountain lions, but I though it were just lions living in the mountain. And Cougar I only one two definitions off. And large small cat is bullshit.
I always think of the animal and football shoes puma
Jace did this on twitch
i rock dakotas cause im diffrent like that
It wasn't puma though
People underestimate how dangerous a boar can be even without tusks
and we thought amazon pricing was insane
What are Dakotas? I heard about Dakoto. But different context.
The hell ... I posted news article about AMD prices going up because of memory.
But they always find an excuse to up the price the last 5-10 years.
and never an excuse to bring em back down π
Guess I'll have to postpone my PC upgrade plans for next year π
you just said you wanted nvidia play thing π no need to ugprade.
Just pay monthly to Nvidia and make em rich π
$200 cheaper if you don't mind waiting 2 months
Or that
Damn, I am jelly. Those look good. Can't be sure ofc. But they look decent.
β¬10 per month for geforce now isn't much
yea there also over 200$ lmao
120 this year. 140 next year. 200 the next year.
but they are so comfortable and i wear them year long so overall not half bad
If they up the prices because everything is more expensive.
That's how netflix did it also. Start low. Now they are high.
who wants to payment plan their ram!
for how much i use them the price is worth it for me and i need the steel toe for school lol
I still own 10 year old timberland boots and they are in great condition
I was blessed with luck to purchase a robust model
In the future: AI is finally able to solve all our problems.
Only 1% of civilization can afford a PC to run AI on π€£
"hi, yes, i'd like to trade in my 5080 for some ram please"
They blame it all on AI that it's getting expensive.
But what are we with AI, if we can't afford a PC anymore in the future?
I only need 1GB, out of the 8GB, how much does that cost? π€£
If I needed to spend 987,6 $ on RAM, I'd rather buy a new mattress lol
placing bets on seeing bootleg ram with companies yanking it off of old stock GPUs
just yank out some of those wrist bones, they're not that important
Don't turn into one of those cyberpsychos or I'll have to call MaxTac!
I could use artificial legs. Not sure if I am getting older but I can't kneel more than a minute
cyberpunk is also pretty good on replacing body parts with enhanced stuff
Only 34 and knees feel like I am 50 lol
half that and i feel 50 aswell
my knees pop whenever i stand up
Pff, I am scared to even look at my PC. If I don't blink and breath at it...
I could use a duranium skull https://youtube.com/shorts/pdq_v_CHgeE
Klingon headbutts Data Star Trek TNG
#startrek #short #shorts
i'd come to help but i don't think you'd appreciate the service charge for the flight
I would help. But I probably make it worse.
You should ask Baldur, he might be closer by π
and bring beer
I had no issue ripping the 6950XT out. I would have preferred to keep gaming on it. But it is what it is.
The GPU itself looked quiet pleasing.
The new one looks like a brick.
I am hooked on stability π€£
Speaking of flight cost, we recently implemented mandatory military service for people reaching 18 and even citizens living abroad need to do the service. Funny thing is that the fine is β¬1000 and people are laughing at this because someone from US will rather pay the fine since it's cheaper than the flight cost π€£
What's the point of training people abroad?
Not that you can summon them on a whim anyway if shit hits the fan.
also why would you require the flight without paying for it
It's a cash grab. The government knows croatians living in US will rather pay β¬1000 fine than quit their jobs and pay flight tickets which are probably 2x more expensive
Yeah, I don't see the logic honestly.
If a country gets attacked, most likely everyone will avoid the airspace asap. So nobody can just "fly in" to help.
So if you have 10K people trained and ready as reservist, living all over the world, it's useless. I think?
ngl i'd gladly take some crappy bones if it meant undoing nerve damage
They must be insane if they think someone who has a job in US is going to pay flight tickets to Croatia only to serve 4 months in military and return back to USA only to realize they have been fired
And it makes no fucking sense!
Nothing here makes sense lol
You literally training people, that go back to another country. They can defend the US more likely than Croatia itself π€£
They made a dumb law that all 18 year old citizens of Croatia must serve military even if they don't live in Croatia
Amazing. (it's mostly the last part that strikes me odd)
If you live in the north pole, guess you have to return back or else you will be fined lol π€£
Also, you might not get back into some countries π€£
I read South Korea is very strict regarding military service and they might void your passport if you try to avoid it
yeah, and a few other countries.
Edit: they will put you in jail for 1-5 years if you travel abroad on purpose to avoid service π
I thunk Ukraine is also strict.
Here they introduced it volontarely. Everyone between 16-18 will get invitation* to spend their summer in a military training camp.
A mix between training but at the level of young ones. So not too harsh I assume? It's a very soft way of attempting to warm up people to the idea of a carreer in the army.
A bit like a summer camp sprinkled with military
Btw, asked ChatGPT to make a render of that floating computer case. It's terrible lol
That ain't floating lol
Neither was the case I posted π€£ But they call it "floating".
Probably. It was trained on internet data
Btw, my pc fan just started buzzing for the first time after I bought it. Gave it a little smack and it doesn't make buzzing sound anymore
I love when you fix electronics by hitting them lol
I doubt it fixes anything. More like postpone. If it's a bad/damaged bearing.
I suspect it's probably the bearing going out
At least the fans are cheap
Even I despise salespeople in my company
My biggest pet peeve is when the competitor calls their cable infrastructure fiber because it's hybrid fiber coaxial
I think some US ISP was fined for exactly that because they advertised cable as fiber. @languid gulch might remember
that does sound familiar
i think some also got nailed for pulling a volkswagen and renting time on someone else's fiber when diagnostics were being run
Oh, It might have been comcast although they advertised their network as "10G" which is a theoretical limit not applicable in reality
In reality, you will probably get 1 Gbit per second since you share bandwidth with neighbors but the salesmen omitted that part on purpose
I wonder how fast steam will let me download games
Not sure if you can pick steam servers or they are automatically assigned
I deserve a medal of honor for surviving the horror of ubisoft launcher
I also have watch dogs on ubisoft and assassin's creed odyssey
I think I have 3 games in total. One got for free as a promo and another one as a birthday gift
Only 1 game I actually bought there lol
my favorite was watchdogs 2. i'd spend hours doing invasion missions where you have to hide and hack them
Hehe
Most recent "reject convenience" videos is good in a surprising way
for what? our internet going down every 2 minutes?
Wait whatπ
90 songs?
classic, love it!
Indeed indeed very true, always a classic and great until this day
Note to self: don't buy on black friday since prices are actually HIGHER than usual and they are selling products specifically for black friday with inferior quality
Left image is price on 10th of November and the right image is the price from yesterday
Basically devs have always ignored the actual MS recommendations/spec where stuff should be.
Games SHOULD put their stuff into Documents\My Games by current "spec".
MS had told devs to not put config/cache data into program install directory for 10 years when Vista came about and made programs unable to touch that without admin rights, forcing that.
Making Vista and UAC have bad name.
Then C:\ProgramData for system wide program data, AppData for user specific program data, with that split between Roaming and Local, where Roaming data should be minimized and only include configs that make sense to move between computers automatically with user in domain environment.
As games are special case where users are expected to actually care about that stuff, and want to access at least some of it for various purposes, so it shouldn't be hidden.
Saves, configs, caches etc.
As usual, as Intel has to pay the devs, and more likely the person would be to buy the game directly, harder it is for Intel to get good deal with the dev.
And if it is the list I found, then it is stuff that lot of people would like, and not cheap for Intel:
Battlefield 6, Dying Light: The Beast, Assassins Creed: Shadows or Civilization 7.
laugh at nvidia pricing for an 8gb card
yea, got the same feeling
my 1660's now taken over as the emergency backup
i do still have an RX560 as a 0 power option
lol yea
sadly my mobo won't allow it
$500 board, 2 x16 slots
both currently in use
lol
presumably dogshit fps
if it even feels like loading in
1660Ti was a great card
it's 8gb isn't it
huh, thought it was 8
true
sadly mine's just the regular 1660
BUT it's evga
oof
those were kinda notorious
i only have 3 of my M.2s in use
π€£
i'd love to see someone who's stuffed 5x Sabrent 8TB ones into one board
oh mine is too for the capability π€£
i'd love to have that one PCIe x4 that boards have right above the main x16
the one thing i really do like about it is the power button and code display
but those should be standard on every board
i love how win11 still insists on using a 30 year old icon for the drive
lol
win11's one good thing i like about it is being able to move all the taskbar icons to the left as they should be
same
yup
well, they like to steal the cheap garbage designs from others, repackage it, then resell it as their own original design
it's like they're trying to make right click so shitty that they can get rid of it
i just hate modern phones in general
i have big hands, and none of them are made for that
i wish they could all agree to a more fixed true aspect ratio
i had to spend 10 minutes googling how to turn off a friend's non-pixel google phone
samsung: hold down the power button to make the options come up
google: use our site so we get ad revenue while you figure it out
lol nope, i'm a cheap ass that missed most of the smartphone stuff from like 2013-2020
my S4 stayed around until the end of 2020
i still have it too
kinda tempted to gut the OS and give it some kind of touchscreen life
i'm leaning towards a non-samsung next time around
but def not apple
yea, sadly we have 0 access to any chinese models
i do have to say, i'm always going to be getting an unlocked phone from now on. my mom has the same model, but from our phone company, and just the difference in unremoveable garbage makes it worth it
yup
yea, i hate the absorption of creativity
lol
gabe definitely put it right, piracy is an access problem
that's just elitist dickswinging to me
it's the same people who bitch about EGS's weekly freebie
i don't like steam because it has no competition
if some companies want to team up and make their own product similar to it, then we'll see if steam can compete
other companies are just choosing to be too greedy to work with other companies to compete with steam
xbox really could have been an alternative to pc gaming
i'm not surprised by any actions that people in those positions take
it's the corporate structure that exists under them that's making those decisions way too easy for them
yup
oh i'm just waiting at this point π€£
functionally impossible
i'd say something but i don't want the mod hammer to land on me π€£
2am dumb shit
yea, i have my regular stuff, and that's pretty much it
i'm slowly learning to use the block feature on stuff π€£
ya know what
that's the best result really
i draw a pretty solid line between evil & not
AI stuff isn't evil, it's just stupid at the moment
companies using its technology can 100% be evil
π€£
it depends on how it's done, at least to me
and right now, yes, being done in the dumbest way possible is not the way to do it
it's not investing in gaming, it's investing in another route for money laundering to go through
i'm wondering if the AI bubble popping will take a whole bunch of non-AI stuff with it
i guess at this point it should be "how much non-AI stuff will the AI bubble pop take with it"
i love how nvidia apparently had to put out something saying they're not Enron
only because we can't put names on state fraud actions similar to it π€£
shocking, isn't it
π€£
i want a billionaire to go around and buy up all the rights to all the dead game companies absorbed by bigger companies, and open source them for $10 each
gmod style
probably
company name's implications, yea
yup
he was wacko, but in the crazy fun uncle kind of way
And better than the current idiot at charge in MS.
would love to see the alternate universe where ballmer stayed on at MS and Woz was the one who ran apple
30 years?
Why cannot I just go to bed and wake tomorrow?
Hardcore mode on, enemies nearby, cannot skip
Can someone explain the following... I have a folder it's 22 GB.
I zip it, and it goes to 12GB, so far so good, but when I unzip it, the unzipped is 33GB... where did the 11GB phantom files come from?
Symlinks... fucking symlinks...
Need to use right options to retain those as is, and not resolve and compress the target.
11GB worth of symlinks?
If you have 11GB file/directory, that is included once directly, and once by symlink, you are already there.
Oof.
Because by default they are resolved, not retained as symlinks.
And another one. UE 5.7
The fix was use tar.gz instead
Smaller file and it resolves symlinks per default.
I hope for it. And no royalties for Letterdief. And Lumen. And Nanite. And full physics.
Never
best thing ever. so glad they exist
with tar you can try other compression algos and get better rate
btw don't ask gpt how to exec command over list of file, it will do anything except giving for loop
Very WIP
Anyone here use makemkv for media ripping?
Obs?
Im trying to rip my entire disc library to digital. I have almost 500 discs to rip.
Yes. And blu rays
Literally second disc i go to rip, it has 7 different episodes, and all i get is one 43GB file instead of 7 different ones
I know him. Im subscribed to him on youtube
We shall see if when its done its going to create a folder thats 43GB with the different episodes or one giant video with all 7 mashed together
Im lazy.
I need to find a way to compress my stuff. This library is going to be huge when im done
i dont want a notice in the mail.
plus, i get the full quality this way
i have a 65TB NAS so im not low on space right now
I dont know where to find the discord
i only have discord
ewww. fuck reddit
tron legacy came out a bit blurry in my rip
or maybe im not used to stuff in resolutions lower than like 1440p
its just one giant video.
fuck. i need to find a way to cut it up or something
thats the first 7 episodes to neon genesis evangelion
IN ONE LONG VIDEO
i need to find a way to cut it up by chapters
i dont wanna re-encode it
maybe i will re-encode game of thrones when i get to it but not now
I have an external blu ray drive
I generally use avidemux, it's a bit labor intensive if you wanna make 3000 chapters though
I only need to split up the ones where all episodes on the same disc are in one video file
I found handbrake but that re-encodes it and i dont want that
Buy ipvanish
One of the best vpns on the market and nobody advertises it
Set the server to Zurich, enable killswitch, and use the socks5 proxy in qbitorrent
i didn't have my glasses on and with that font i thought your name was Prince Burger
hmmm, my phone updated and now being idle 99.9% of the day it only consumes like maybe 6% of charge, instead of 1/3 of total. nice
now that I have replacement earbuds, I wonder what should I do to prevent them from failing in the same way.
would some hotglue around joints help smooth out the bending?
I seen people add ballpen springs, but I don't think it will help for separate sides as much
moment I step outside I will be caught as pokemon and sent to battles
bruh, the who? watch out what you say or might catch a ban, hehe
this is why I back up my discs as ISOs
What does that do?
How do i rip and save the iso?
afair standard windows feature
maybe in partitioner program
also later you can compress that iso
put password on it...
New linux
Im moving to linux soon. I need to switch to fedora on my laptop and try it out there before switching to linux on my desktop.
My main thing right now is gaming, disc archival and 3d printing. Thats what i need to be able to do on linux
Linux > windows
Gaming: Proton has solved this seamlessly for nearly every game. If it has bugs, ProtonDB almost always has a fix
Disk archival: there are utilities for this built into every distro. What do you use now in Windows? I can suggest the closest alternative
3D printing: works exactly the same. Almost all the software is multi-platform
@cyan crescent ^
I got a permit for solar panels π
68 watts peak power today, generated 0,2kWh
Means you got 3h of sunlight minimum
sunrise 9:10 set 14:47
But yes my area the panels will be mostly silent until end of Feb for now
Isn't it gonna get even worse over the next 3-4 weeks?
yeah some, but practically nov-feb is almost zero
Yeah, obviously.
Any amount of sunlight time you're losing until winter solstice will have to be made up afterwards
So with 5Β½ hours in late November, I'm expecting 5Β½ hours in mid to late January
In Linux lot of things can be done commandline
for cd to iso you usually do
dd if=/dev/cdrom of=/your/file.iso
dd is disk/file device copy utility
Adding bs=1M will speed up almost any dd use today by a lot. (Read and write in 1 megabyte chunks, and not in single sectors)
Also remember to remove the French language package before doing anything on your drive
wut
Essential, do not forget
At least you are producing something π . There are people here who literally post pictures of their solar panels covered in snow online and cry how they aren't producing power at all
I am like: do these people even know how solar panels work?
Also, since you love excavators, I got some fiber construction images for you
Installed manhole
And some fiber spaghetti
Oh yeah thats the best paid excavator weight class π
I'm unboxing and testing new Toucan 3D scanner. Blue laser picks up black stuffed grouse really well. Without markers
The device itself on charger showing My "unboxing" table scan in color
Soo nice without laptop and wires
This reminds me of my iPhone 12 LiDAR scanner I used to scan my room. It's actually good considering it's a phone scanner and not a professional scanner
Of course, it's not meant to be used for scanning smaller objects since it's not that accurate
You mean the device from Laserkari? It's Toucan 3D scanner
