but nobody does over here 😄
I saw cops turn on their lights to make a U turn. Then they put the lights back off.
Because they could only, legally make a U turn there, if they had sirens on.
I've seen police and paramedics sometimes abusing sirens without any reason too
With great power comes great responsibility... right?
well some people need it to work.
Speaking of responsibility, I've also noticed selfish drivers who refuse to make an emergency corridor (or don't know they have to make an emergency corridor)
yeah, good luck here mate
have fun traveling 3 hours to work. and 3 hours back
and work 10 hours. 16 hours for a job. Yeah. 1 hour to eat and then to bed.
Do that 6 out 7 days and we talk again 😉
I am not oppose to public transpot. use it for all I care.
It's not for me, and I have the right to drive a car.
and if they take that right away, give me back horses! 🤣

Self-entitled idiot at 0:22
bro, I know you memory is shit.
but I told you so many times, I lost two cats to drivers.
I got hit by a drunk tractor driver on my 5th birthday and ended up 7 days in coma with complete memory loss
I don't see it
Oof.
The blue van driver should have moved more to the right and paramedic was swearing because of that
Aah.
Here we are still learning to do that. I think it's a new law from 2-3 years ago.
We are still pretty bad at it on highways. As in, we don't leave a middle road open in a traffic jam for emergency vehicles.
People with expensive cars love emergency corridors because they will drive right behind paramedics. Some got huge fines for that
Not making an emergency corridor or abusing one should have higher fines imo because someone's life could literally be at risk
Here some people use that to get pass traffic jams.
Google translates it to : hard shoulder?
Oh, they do that too and I get very pissed when I see someone abusing emergency lanes (that's how we call that lane marked with red here)
Same.
well, I get confused now.
Because emergency lane is also the lane we create during a traffic jam.
Probably just tranlation issues on my part haha
I think we call it emergency corridor when people make space in the middle for paramedics/police/firefighters. Emergency/stop lane is the lane on the far right
Ah corridor. yeah that might be it.
Didn't say that. I said your memory is shit.
Well solution seems simple for you. But I leave that to you.
When banks make poor automated email with weird formatting and link deadlines making it look like phishing attempt:
Such a poor design can make even legit mails look like scams
I like the concept of anti-phishing codes. You set your own code on some website and every time they send you an email, it includes the anti-phishing code you set yourself
My nephew just arrived and he keeps saying "Roomba! Roomba!"
Guess he is obsessed with the robot cleaner
Dyson is fine but it's overpriced imo
its on sell at 16 usd, is it still overpriced even on sell?
idk why im asking, its still in early access and i have been wondering what would be a good point to pick it up
but maybe ill wait until it leaves early access, lord knows i have alot of game backlog here😅
We were talking about dyson home appliances 😄
yeah you know i really should stop looking at some of this, i have such a large backlog of games i still want to play and im here looking at these ea games lol
lol i thought it was dsp lmao
because dsp is on sell for 16 atm, so wondering if it would be worth picking up
I was like, where the hell did you find a dyson vacuum for 16 usd 🤣
well you see there is this dark alloy, with these very shady sellers....
I haven't played dsp but 16 usd sounds reasonable
yeah i thought so
dsp surely has at least 16 dollars worth of content
its overwhelming positive to, so thats a good sign to
DSP is great and isn't even done being built yet. It's made by a small chinese team and they've made something that's incredibly universal and appeals to a global audience (heh because the game uses globes)
Alright, I went to the EFI partition, deleted the old bcd file and ran bootrec /RebuildBcd (which successfully detected my windows installation and added it as a boot manager entry)
Still, same thing occurs
Maybe it's still a scam?
The guy forwarded this mail to the bank and they confirmed it's a genuine mail from them
imagine if even the bank got fooled 🤣
and they get to hospital
Some banks are so bad even their mail templates look like phishing attempt
perhaps, phishing attempts look so bad because they're mimicking bank templates
Btw, I noticed there is a "fictional voter" on my address although It's well-known that elections here are fishy
There are many villages where there are like 100 residents but 300 registered voters. That's how you win elections....
Cosmic ray
Veritasium talks about it.
There are like 3.600.000 people here and 4.000.000 registered voters
And I don't believe in a statement that dead people can't vote. There is not a 100% solid proof for that
When you vote, you go to your designated voting center, show your ID, wait for a person to check if you are a registered voter (and haven't voted before already) and they give you a voting ballot if everything is fine
But how do I know there isn't a "fictional" voting center where they pretend to vote for dead people?
check the cemeteries when there is elections.
Send a picture of ghosts voting when you find them 🤣
I get you. There is a level of trust involved between population and the goverment when it comes to voting.
I mean, they could just take a ballot, vote for a candidate and write down that a "dead person" has voted because the dead person has not been erased from a voter register
And nobody checks if that person is actually dead, they just see they are a registered voter
well there should be flags if citizens are deceased.
pretty sure there is a db for that (for the goverment).
That's why I said; it's just trust. Hope the goverment has systems in place to prevent fraud.
I think they are manipulating the part with deceased people and it's not in their interest to erase deceased people as soon as possible from voter register
I cannot speak for your country.
🙈
Here, I've seen or read no proof about voting manipulation. So I trust it's a "fair" game.
Can't wait to visit a local police station and ask for a list of all people who have a residence on my address (since voters have their designated voting center based on residence)
They will probably say something like: "We can only tell you if you have a residence in your address as a property owner but we can't tell you which other people might have residence in your address because of GDPR" 🤣
GDPR is a double-edge sword. Sometimes it only makes things worse
Is it legal to have your adress on a residence you don't own?
Because if it isn't legal. GDPR means jackshit. And the police should take action.
Doesn't mean they have to give you the adres. They could handle it themselves. Or escalate to proper instances.
Let me know how it ends 🤣
You need a consent from the owner
Unless you have a residence at your parent's house, then you don't need a consent
Why would anyone do this?
Someone posted heatmap on reddit of what appears to be an office with more than 25 access points
You could literally cover the whole residential building with so many access points
Or maybe those are locations where signal strengths were being tested but why would you make so many tests for literally each meter
bottom left are ok but these are the only ok one
wait no, I thought it was scaled for signal
of the doors are 1:1 then it's absolutely not and it's absolutely stupid
some ap provider got gold
Assuming the office has drywall which doesn't weaken the signal as concrete, you could go with 4 standard access points or 2 professional ones with better range
Or maybe 3 standard Ubiquiti access points from the top to bottom in the middle
Not my office

btw, there are 2 examples of how knowledge from the natives was not noticed/implemented, leading to first a disaster and later to re-"invention"
talking about vulcanisation (curing) of rubber and keeping distance between trees
so, we have monoculture of rubber trees, banana trees,
similarly many seedless fruits

that's terrible

it's about having same vulnerability at scale, opening possibility for 1 successful hit to crash whole system
Only way that makes sense to me, is that we see 2D of a 3D appartment building or sky scrapper, so the access points are spread over multiple levels of the building.
And it might look like they overlap from top-down view.
And else it's just a troll post 🤣 And someone plopped down some dots on airmapper.
what the acutal fuck
Only possible explanation. There is no way someone installed so many access points in that office
There are so many possibilities for actually harmful acts of terrorism, it kinda makes me glad that they stick to "bomb go boom, people die"
usually because the people who do terrorist acts aren't smart enough to do anything overly sophisticated
watch somebody is going to make a stealth cessena 172 and do a terrorist attack with it 🤣
and hopefully people's ethics aren't so insane that even a state actor ordering someone to create something truly awful would do it
you obviously haven't seen the vids out of russia
oh i know a russian guy who will make anything he feels like it
not going to post any here, but russia & ukraine have been drone-rigging small planes full of fuel & explosives for long-haul low altitude missions
the next major conflict is going to depend on how many lightweight little drones strapped with bombs on them can be produced
which is way i feel like the us is going to flop in that and china is gonna be incredible at
i have no idea what it's going to look like
hopefully we can prevent that level of stupidity
did you forget you are talking about politicans
they just want their names engraved in history books
yup
lol
too bad they forget that 99% of them don't get that, and then halve that because the losers get forgotten
dubai is a perfect example of that 🤣
bit of fun i discovered last night when ripping into my first tower
dubai is a tradegy as a whole honestly, they had a literal infinite money creative mode spawning point and they have the stupidest leaders and megaprojects
i like how their miles-long oasis is just ending up being a straight line of brutalist state-run apartments
and it'll sink or fall over with the next mild earthquake
every form of "public transit" there is just greenwashing
its literally no different from having cars if its all going to be pods
the good news is that globally the estimate is 1 terawatt of added solar power for next year
that's 250 of the largest nuclear plant in the US
i just hate politicans takes on nuclear power however
yeah but, is US adding that solar capacity, or china?
i did say globally
it's not just politicians. its' the general public. People who grew up with chernobyl, 3 mile island, or that TV movie "The Day After"
Even the Simpsons contributed to anti nuclear sentiment by putting homer in charge of saftey and Mr Burns the evil power plant owner
i mean, The Day After was about nuclear attack, not nuke plants
yeah but the effect it had on perception was real and measurable
which is 100% a legit thing that can still happen
with chernobyl, propaganda got me. I grew up hearing stories about it. one was that there were 3 men who went into the flooded area and sacrificed themselves to do something to help. i forget the details but remember that they died horrible deaths. It was taught to us in school.
years later when the hbo show aired, i learned those guys actually didn't die that year and died much much later
pretty sure thats the whole point of the movie
yup
yeah it was a big bad thing that happened. it still affects perceptions to this day
when fukishima happened, there was another nuclear fear. a lot of people on my coast thought that water was going to be glowing when it came over from japan. or that all the debris washing up would kill you if you touched it
radiocarbon dating had to be asterisked for everyone alive after 1950, and hopefully that'll be remembered into the future, otherwise future archaeology will think we're all from a century earlier than we actually are
i'm on the canadian west coast. the ENTIRE pacific ocean between us and fukushima
yeah lol we've significantly altered the isotope count in the atmosphere / environment
although from now on, now that we know how to successfully build thorium NPPs, everyone should be extremely suspicious of any country choosing to build uranium NPPs
i'm pro nuclear but dont know enough to say which reactors are going to work or not. i just think that the energy density is so great that it's stupid not to use it.
but the public perception is the biggest hurdle
china, US, and EU are all bringing thorium reactors online this year
yeah thorium is about to be prime time
fusion is even moving out of reseach purposes and into commercial generation
question is if "unconnected" acts of violence can be classified as having a single, coordinated source.
Why would that matter?
Terrorists usually release a statement that whatever happened was their doing
well because if you were to find many more violent acts as connected, coordinated terrorism, then "usually" in your statement would turn into "rarely".
asterics: though in some way performers still often do not hide their personality or deny wrongdoing
You make zero sense rn.
Like, the words you say don't connect to any meaning in my brain
Why does it matter whether acts are connected or not?
pls don't call him retarded, that's ableist.
And frankly, I'd say it's an insult to mentally disabled people to be comparing them to Putin
He's an evil genocidal tyrant war criminal.
Bringing disability into the mix just diminishes his cruelty
It's fine to call people names, but call them what they are.
i've been cleaning out/paring down old tech stuff
managed to stuff all my spare fans into a single amazon box
and i have 14x C13 cables just hanging around
oh and i found a little AM4 spu box, so my garbage tier bulldozer APU is properly stored now
hilarious question time. dare i plug in the GT610 to my system and see how badly it bottlenecks the 9800X3D
lol
don't have any spares
kinda sad that nvidia doesn't have Crossfire, i have a 1660 & 1660S not doing much rn
i know. bought the 1660 on day 1
1660S at the height of shortages, found it for msrp in a real store
would love to see him do that with this one
PNY, a whole 1gb vram
29W TDP
Defunct October 25, 2006
i might pop out my 4090 tommorow and set it next to the GT610 and take a pic just for fun
see what 13 years does to GPUs
awwww i can't use it, win11 doesn't support it
Nvidia does not support it on win 11
you said that you are glad that they stick to simple stuff, like explosions.
what I ma saying is that you take a different perspective and investigate if there are connected acts of violence, then they might be classified as terrorism too, and that would change the statistics a lot. Meaning, you won't say anymore "I am glad they just use bombs", you would see there are many more more sophisticated ways to cause physical, psychological, financial harm. Including raising mistrust to the government, law enforcement etc.
But ofcourse, it all won't make sense unless you investigate.
Obviously I know about shit like Cambridge Analytica or Russian misinformation.
That's not what I consider terrorism tho
idk how or where to draw the line between terrorism and warfare, but what you're describing is closer to warfare imo
I named only 2 attributes:
- act of violence
- coordination (though in a broad sense)
I don't misinformation would fit there
the danger of modern world is that people are ready to do dumb stuff without knowing what actually happens
it's not a modern thing
it's especially easier with desperate, unstable people
yeah but could hire a courier on electric scooter to deliver food that is actually a bomb that explodes?
for them, it's just another delivery order. but they might not live to see tomorrow.
I may list many nasty examples but don't wont to write it in this chat...
internet certainly opens many possibilities
and algorithmic polarization plays huge role in keeping people who are easier to exploit in that same state
actually...
I just had a realization that it's like partisan warfare
except the ones distributing guides on how to do stuff are much more subtle, use internet instead of paper, and can much more precisely tune target audience.
and they need to forge a trigger to action, unlike in actual war where partisans usually have all the reasons created by invaders already.
and one last big difference: authors don't have your best interest in mind, never had.
Deliberately spreading misinformation is an act of violence imo
Except that's still just a bomb.
You can do so much more with a little bit of deliberate planning and a disregard for flashy media stunts.
Look at the XZ backdoor, a highly sophisticated attack that sought control over the majority of global IT systems
Other example attacks:
blow up computing/data centers of payment processors, bringing that South American Blight to Southeast Asian rubber farms
Hell, if you wanna be fancy, get a pilot's license, rent a charter jet to fly yourself, crash it into congress during state of the union
I guess the main differentiation is persistence.
A singular act could generally be considered terrorism imo, but if it becomes a recurring things, it becomes warfare
Astral 5090 vs EKWB waterblocked 4090
And the same 4090 vs Inno3D 5090 with Alphacool block
just now realized we're getting off topic again
Time to cut the terrorism discussion here, I don't think there's much to discuss anyway
I am considering NEVER buying batteries from a local store again....
€0,66 per battery vs €1,50 per battery
And they don't sell a pack with more batteries for a reason so you pay more per battery
When a lawyer says that chatgpt would have written a more accurate logic for government app that marks people as not abiding law, you know someone really screwed up.
Imagine a system that checks for condition of "action A performed by person B", but doesn't have a way to uncheck it after issue been resolved and instead creates a loop of police requests to find that person.
Orwell couldn't imagine this shit...
Buy from AliExpress, even cheaper
more magic smoke
I don't like AliExpress because you never know what you get
even from china a battery is a bettery
for basic products like single use batteries or metal screws it's hard to get scammed
Temu and AliExpress been ok for me. Like cables, zipties, electric connectors, garage door remote.
Why do people even buy non rechargeable batteries
it's possible to get scammed with batteries
you basically get dead cells
i get that there 1.5V instead of 1.2V but iv literally nerver had a problem just using rechargeable ones instead
Might as well buy rechargeable batteries though
Anyway aliexpress is like Amazon
you get what you select
if you select shit untrusted reseller you'll get scammed
but there also are ok and pretty good stuff
give much more care when buyin rechargeable
there is no point in buying rechargeable that you will not be able to reuse a lot
Will definitely need 4 rechargeable batteries for a mouse and meta quest controllers since they drain fast. For other electronics, standard batteries will do fine
There are ways to make sure you do.
Shop specific models/internals, prepare for designs to be different
I either buy stuff that is known good (specific models) or that are hard to do wrong (DnD dice)
This. 100% this.
If I order from AliExpress, need to make sure they ship a product from EU or else I'll pay import duty which costs more than the batteries themselves
eu Import is vat
it can't cost more than batteries unless you got scammed with process fees
Here, you would only pay VAT for batteries but they will charge you processing fees for determining if you need to pay additional import duty even though you don't
Processing fee would be like €15 to €20 which defeats the purpose of saving money
my quest 2 controllers really dont drain that fast
they do on rechargeable batteries because of the lower voltage however
but iv been using the same batteries playing everyday for like a month now and i think last i checked there still at 80%
My quest 3 controller batteries drain faster and they are Duracell, not some cheap batteries
There is no way they would last a month if I played every day in my case
thats what i have in mine rn
Guess quest 3 controllers drain batteries more compared to quest 2
But it probably makes sense since dosent the quest 3 controllers use actual sensors instead of infra red
This 👆
Then again i also fully power off my headset each time or else its dead in 24 hours of not being plugged in
so that might help somehow
Plus maybe 10€ processing fee
Dual gpu has a use again?
(Not actually making an argument to that effect, I just thought this was interesting)
https://github.com/Lossless-Scaling-New-2025/ can do framegen on a second gpu so you don't take the base fps hit that you normally do with fg
Best use case IMO would be to have it run on an igpu as long as you don't mind the little extra heat load
the good mice come with rechargeable lithium ion batteries installed internally
Whichever genius engineer/designer/stupid person thought it would be a great idea to put an air filter at the exhaust of my robot vacuum that’s accessible by taking the whole thing apart can go fuck himself.
It works🥳
So that incompetent people throw it away and buy a new one.
I love E-waste
Kinda tempted to buy a robot vacuum and mop but cheap ones suck unless I go used
I love the implication that genius engineer is another way to say stupid person
Yeah, I’d love a proper nice one. This one is kinda ass and was very overpriced, didn’t know better at the time.
I paid my 4 year old Roomba around €300-350. Does it's job but sometimes get stuck in a specific corner even though light is turned on (error 17)
For that money, I am very happy because I hate vacuuming under the bed so much (and rest of the house)
i mean they are kind of smart for doing that
Who or what pinged me 😠
Why not buy rechargeable?
I just didn't.
Nah you wouldn't.
just wait for windows 10 to leave
I rarely delete messages tbf, so you hardly ever get a ghost ping from me
I might buy 4 rechargeable batteries for electronics that drain batteries fast and buy regular batteries for everything else
Not sure who pinged you but smells like that cat person
Don't good rechargeable batteries hold charge pretty well?
Are you a cat person? 👀 ||Because it was you haha, replying to me about the layout of the wifi extenders.||
Haven't used rechargeable batteries in like 15 years. Technology has probably advanced by now I hope
We use them for microphones and stuff on stage. We got like a shitton of them 🤣
I think it has - by shifting away from rechargeable batteries in standard battery formats
I was referring to Maxeek, he loves to ping you but not sure if it's him
Stuff that's meant to be rechargeable now has built in batteries and USB charging
Maybe I pinged you regarding that wifi layout
So the only reason for sticking with the classic formfactor batteries was disposable use
All good. You can ping me any time of the day/night!
Don't fully agree in the sense that a lot of bands still bring gear that uses those batteries.
Then their batteries die and they look at us to fix it.
I won't before 09:00 and after 11:00 though
We got backup batteries on backup batteries... all charging the whole time. If something goes wrong, we just take them out and go go go .
I might buy rechargeable Duracell batteries since you know what you get with Duracell
I do agree, that new electronics, should try to prevent batteries and use rechargable if needed.
But imagine this. lead singer microphone dies of battery.
He can;'t just go charge is backstage during a gig 🤣
So that means he would need two rechargeable microphones?
Or just have batteries, replace them in a few seconds and go.
Thing is; classic batteries have a purpose. You can't just replace them all with rechargable buildin battery.
Yeah, sorry, I might replied early.
There are amazon basics batteries too but I read somewhere a person did test and found out they performed terrible
I can't wait
Yeah, but the demand for rechargeable batteries has died out.
Most consumer tech moved to built in batteries with USB charging - more convenient with smartphones growing popular and easier to plan obsolescence
And the few usecases that still used standard formfactor batteries didn't justify the inconvenience of a whole separate charger.
Their power consumption was so low that it was just cheaper and more convenient to use disposable batteries
Your usecase is pretty much a niche
And probably better fitted with stuff like 18650
True, I only see it a lot in places with stage (festivals, theatres, etc).
I have a old guitar tuner that needed some batteries. Went to buy a new one and now I have one with USB C 👌
exactly this
there's products where you will only need to change the battery once or twice in your lifetime (such as the guitar tuner)
Especially the small form factor disposable batteries, the ones used for flashlights watches etc are useful as hell
flashlight does make sense to have batteries.
guitar tuner too
or run around with a battery pack and a USB cable when out in the wild.
You mean as a survival tool, I get it
But I would consider a USBC guitar tuner overkill as well
Oh yeah, sorry. Outdoor flashlight.
Well, the old one had two batteries. I guess it reduces waste to have USB C tuner.
considering it's a Device you use for maybe 10 minutes a month I don't see it running out anytime soon lol
I've had one too
I can only speak for myself and a few people I've seen it happen, people tend to forget turn of tuner and start playing.
Or just charge it while at home so you don't take an almost empty flashlight with you
And what for long outdoor trips? Multiple days. Wilderness. Like I said; battery pack and cable maybe.
Know your battery runtime
And then bring a power bank for your flashlight when it runs out 🤣🤣
Yeah that helps soldiers. Guys your flashlight will run 1 day. But you have to go on a 5 day trip. Good luck 🫡
But yeah, maybe consider smth with replaceable batteries for that
Or firefighters. Police.
And people tend to forget to charge it. Having a few batteries is a quick fix. Shops sell them etc.
I don't know. I rather also have no batteries to reduce waste.
And rare enough of a usecase for rechargeable replacement batteries to not be commercially visble
If we all carry around battery packs it solved. Right
Exactly, charging still takes time
Disposable batteries instantly provide all the electricity it needs
things like this;
Without you having to wait
They have special equipment storage with backup equipment.
If they take any battery powered equipment on their shift and it's not 80%+ I'd be surprised
True!
Charging a Tesla car without a special supercharging gas station takes like close to a day
Still, it's handy you can fix it on spot if you have batteries in the car.
And don't have to drive back 😉
Yup - that's why disposable batteries are still a thing
The bane of Xbox controller users
Haha 🤣 I totally forgot about that.
I know people with an Xbox that have been buying new disposable batteries for 5 years straight
and they always say "I'll buy rechargable ones later"
I hate these mice
Bro, you don't even want to see my collection of batteries for the orochi v2
I had close to 50 batteries lying around in my desk
and I'm assuming you know the ghost charging phenomenon where if you leave a battery alone for a few days it recharges on it's own
Whenever one ran out I just picked a random one up and it usually worked
or if there were two, switching them
The orochi has the genius design of taking either an AA or an AAA battery, but not both at the same time
so yeah the battery was shitty too
i havent had to change the battery in the mouse i use with my laptop once
and iv been using it for a year almost everyday
im pretty sure those batteries are worth more than the controller at that point
steam controller takes batteries and the way they made it, it's so insanly difficult to get the batteries back out
that looks about as sadistic as my mouse
Good rechargeable AA and AAA cells are a thing. Like Eneloop
I use a ton of them. Remotes, controllers, mice, portable keyboard…
Finally getting my server up and running this week!
5600x w/ 32 gigs of ddr4 and 4x8tb drives in raidz1 running truenas community
(May actually run mirror+stripe if I decide I need the extra edge in read speed since I'm going to be accessing files off of it directly)
dont forget the most important step: breaking it
I could always bring you along if I think that needs to happen
Using gpt5 mini to troubleshoot psu... It doesn't boot at all today, no activity, not even sound.
It's unusul to see llm ask lcarifying questions on its own
SuGgests shorting with paperclip and measuring voltages... Should be safe enough
Silly me tried to short pins on MB side and was like "wait this pin is empty... What ma I even doing - switch is on MB side, not PSU side" haha
So I heard hdd starting but no fan noise...
Unless it's actually that silent at first.
Strange, it's definitely different behavior from regular power button press
Llm asking me meadure voltages and check their stability in short sessions of 10-30 seconds to not strain psu w/o load ...
Sounds sketchy
well no shit sherlock your trying to kill yourself and are too brainwashed by the ai to realise it
Which part of this is dangerous?..
this channel got much more tolerable once i blocked him for spreading misinformation
It's literally following article from Corsair
I doubt they would want to loose their clients
fair enough
So i am more inclined to sya that you got "brainwashed" with anti ai and anti consumer repair/troubleshooting rights
lol see what i mean
and i've never seen any professional say anything about a PSU except "unless you're a qualified expert, don't touch the thing that can actually kill you"
ram? fine. cpu? sure. gpu? yup. thing with enough current sitting in its caps to stop your heart? not a fucking chance
Modern mice with li-ion batteries like phones are really good. You have to recharge them for 15 mins.. twice a week if you're using them 12hrs a day with 8k polling, but only once or twice a month with more casual usage or lower polling rates.
The batteries to do that weigh a fraction of what an alkaline AAA battery does (~2-6g) and they're rechargeable for thousands of cycles.
Wireless mice from before the ~ G pro wireless have massively worse batteries and all kinds of issues. The Orochi 2015 weighs upto 110g (so it's ~twice as dense as these modern wireless mice, even with lower weight batteries!) and has its center of mass miles away from the center of the mouse, for example, those things alone make it far less usable.
Since when paperclip test, showcased in LTT videos, is dangerous?
To be clear, no one is opening psu casing, I know better then that
my biggest peeve about it is that almost all of them are wire-soldered to the pcb
gimme a connector so i can swap it out when it dies
Ye, not all though
i bought the logi G533 headset specifically because it has an easily swappable battery
and i haven't used rechargeable AA/AAAs since lithium ion showed up, the old generation ones were so crappy it pushed me away
wireless headsets still add a substantial amount of latency, hasn't been fixed yet. I guess because they push far more data than a mouse does.
It's fine for some stuff i just find it noticable and annoying (and a headphone cable to be less negatively impactful than a mouse cable)
the mice that we have now are basically better in every way than the best wired 2018 mouse, and they're also wireless with those batteries, so that's really cool
So which exact part of this
www.silverstonetek.com/upload/downloads/QA/PSU/PSU-Paper Clip-EN.pdf
Is of any danger?
lol brainwashed by the ai. lol. meanwhile, that's actually good advice and is how you test electronics to make sure they work, but you should be a trained electriction or have experience with something like that before going and probing a PSU with a meter still. The true brianwashing here is being so against LLMs and AI that you can't accept any knowledge from them, even good advice
i jump start my pc with a paperclip everyday. just not that way. i bridge two pins on my mobo, i just happen to know which pins would go to the the power button. like i said before, i salvaged an alien ware case and i've never gottena round to adapting dell's power button circuitry to my msi mobo. at one point i intended to custom make my own power button but this has been working well and i haven't got around to it yet
bridging those two pins in your power connector is the same idea. it's just a signal circuit
to be clear, I did search for a proper article and followed it instead of ai answer which was only used to get. Gist of what to do.
It's always better this way when there's any doubt or danger. which there is generally when ac is involved...
But 24pin connector has no ac in itself, only dc, up to 12v. If you don't involve cpu part, then there really isn't much current going. The PS on pin isn't carrying much energy at all. And you don't uave need need tot ouch it while psu is on, or even with your bare hands - isolated tweezers are an option.
I didn't go for measuring voltages since it's enough for me that fan spins when turned on this way.
Which doesn't happen with front power button.
Should try booting without it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OI7eSNY6YkE this guy shows the procedure very well. not just the paperclip jumpstart, but using the meter to monitor all the voltages

if you never done it before, there are lots of youtubes demonstrating how to test a psu with a multimeter. watch a few to get a good lay of the land
oh i'm reading the complete conversation now and have seen you already know what you're doing. cool
lol brainwashed with "anti ai" is so true. These things aren't causing a massive bubble because they're useless. if you use them intelligently then you're on the fast track to success
While its true they aren't useless, we still certainly are in a massive bubble
yeah. i said that. so i'm double tru.
its from over investment, not because it's a fad that'll fail. the bubble comes from it being so early in the game right now and there are many killer apps to be found
Only real question i have is when the bubble is going to pop and what happens after that, because ai actually has practical applications, its only the value and money thats being thrown around that seems to be spiraling out of control
i'd sooner say it's a whole new computational paradigm than it is a fad. but i wouldn't bet on either of those outcomes just yet.
AI already has tons of practical applications. LLMs even. and they're only going to get better at those applications. But there are more to be found still
From a different niche Discord
that's so hot
Well, I had to troubleshoot 1kW generator once.
And even had been electrocuted once with a faulty ussr lab equipment, arm to arm. Not pleasant.
So keeping an eye on what my arms are touching and grounding is first priority 🙂
being electrocuted once is a great way to learn not to be electrocuted again
in theory
Huh, so either I somehow fail to short power switch pins because of dust...
Or something wrong with MB
Or... I should indeed check voltages
Huh, he doesn't worry about leaving psu running without load, which llm warned me about
Having modular cables is nice when you need swap PSU
Ehich probably comes only once in it's lifetime...
So better have a reliable psu in the first place
Swapping for identiacl unit immediately booted PC.
I guess it loved for long 2 years... Wiat a minute, that's not that long
How is it difficult?
You just push these little pins that are marked with the arrows and they jump right out
no shit. i always thought those were the buttons for the paddle that covers them
they made the batteries pop right out this whole time huh?
100% agree
I wonder if having both 8pin power pins on GPU hooked from same cable bus to the PSU (effectively only 1 set of 8 pins) did wear it out a bit more
though anyway it's rated for 750W, and GPU was running under 120W, combined with CPU at 65 TDP... don't think it was actually stretching anything
hmmm I am trying to buy a used PC, this one has a PSU as seen from the images but doesnt list it. Would it be worth it and are there any issues with it at first glance?
also no MB specs
RAM only lists brand and total volume, but no clock & timing
true
Ask for model on MB and PSU. Ram clock/timing isn't that important, can be adjusted manually too.
Other than that:
- old platform, no upgrade path
- unknown price
- when under stress, the CPU might run hot under that cooler
- SSD is meh (if 980 and not 980 pro)
Other pictures don't really help with recognizing PSU
Some may have a different perspective on the MB so you might be able to spot a model number printed on the PCB
like CPU side if i want a smaller file size than AV 1 VCE and same or better quality it encodes at a rate of 10-20fps
its more efficient though
its efficient but believe it or not having 1 frame every 20 seconds is not ideal for a video
iv recorded purely on my 13700K before when i was rocking the igpu IT SUCKED
i know but when if i wanna do that encoding takes 20 times as long
its not really worth it IMO
it shouldnt be THAT bad
purely cpu encoding at 1080P? heck yea its that bad
my 5600G can handle X264 at a high quality setting at like 15fps
(1080p)
let me see if i can find a recording
handbrake RE-encode though
i think i deleted them all tho cause this was like 2 years ago at this point
yea no i dont have the ones im thinking of when i was playing raft with some freinds
well, at least it Looked good
let me see if i can find i diffrent one
like here the H264 one is almost the same size as the scource footage yet its not even close in detail
no the detail was ok ish the problem was the framerate
i did manage to get it working on beamNG drive when i split the load 50/50 with the igpu but it was still terrible
thats not what i meant
i meant that CPU encoding is higher quality than GPU encoding
yea BUT ITS SO SLOWWWWW
unless you go for a much higher bitrate for GPU
especially on my weak ass R5 5500 LOL
Real time cpu only encoding in obs was the biggest mistake of my life
mine too
i eventually swapped in my blown up 1660 super to end the suffering when my 4070ti got delayed but holy i wouldent want to go back
uh oh
i think it was great to learn how to optimise recording and what settings affect what but holy cow was it rough
i can only find the test recording i did which wasent nearly as bad
i deleted the recording i was thinking of tho
and its mkv so it dosent upload... right
Uploaded fine, just no embed.
just rename it to mp4 and upload again
no ik but like thats the whole point
actually honest question? whats the reason behind no embeds on MKV?
ima check my windows old folder if by miracle i have a clip or anyhting from then but yea i doubt it
yea no all i have is xbox game bar clips that are perfectly normal since it used the igpu
what encoder where you using ?
AV 1 SVT/AOM ?
probably software or H whatever it is
cause AV1 isent supported and wasent a thing back then on OBS and i probably just left it on whatever it defaulted to
then its probably X264
heck i dont even record in AV1 now
it caused to many issues with obs trying to offload to my igpu and since it dosent support AV1 causing huge problems and whole system crashes
and even after disabling my igpu i couldn't be bothered to go back when H264 works so reliably
i dont care about file size and if im being real i dont need an encoding tehcnology any better than 1440P at 172FPS
i do want to try out AV1 on the B580 tho if its supported on linux
honetly, Recording on CPU is a pretty bad idea in any remotely CPU heavy game
even when it isnt CPU heavy its questionable
yea just you can probably understand why i dident want to sacrefice more of the igpu when i was barely getting 20FPS myself at minimum settings
i do definitely want to revisit the concept at some point and see if i can get cpu encoding to work ok for the fun of it but thats a project for later
coordination?
i know video takes a lot more cpu than you would think to process when its raw
its not raw
You're moving quite a bit of data, and even gpu encoding isn't quite as simple as "load file, feed to gpu, get encoded file back"
And there might be other things set if you aren't careful, that run on the CPU.
Outside the pure encoding.
like what ?
or maybe its just that im at like 600fps
i have been doing so much recently its insane
Resizing for example will almost certainly run on CPU in Handbrake.
And same if you have anything under that Filters.
And lot of other things.
idk how im not burned out
oh
i changed desks completely redid my whole setup 3 times finished 2 big video projects iv been working on for fun and to just improve, im redoing all my networking tonight, my mic decided it dident want to live anymore so now i ordered a new one and im gonna have a full audio setup, i had to prepare my laptop for school, setup all my game streaming stuff aswell. and probably reinstall windows instead of linux on my second pc until i get another drive because the aditional unnecessary latency on linux is just not it
so much to do and so little time
oh and did my driving test and you know life stuff on top
all in the like past month
im such a workaholic and its a problem but truth is i love it and i dont want to stop
what does it mean to redo networking
I mean, my networking is just a router and an Ethernet cable
hey, I tried rebuilding bcd again and it didn't seem to work
Is there anything else I can try? This for sure is quite the hassle for just moving a partition
Rest of the stuff you tried earlier to fix the issue?
Before the NTFS identifier change.
You're asking what the stuff is or if I tried what I did after before too
Suggesting that you try all the other things too beside the specific BCDedit commands you listed here to be run after.
And checking if the listed boot entries in that BCD when you check them are sane or not.
audio encoding, decoding the original video source, syncing the audio to the video. media encoding is more than just a one step process and having the gpu do video encoding is just one of the steps
second pc is ethernet only so i need a switch
have fun
or its literally just a brick
i get it, but i thought decoding could be done on the GPU
handbrake does not support decoding on amd or nvidia
not even Nvidia ? bruh
nope. only Intel QSV for video decode. most encoders work for video. everything else is CPU
thats pretty dumb
no ?
ah, i need to correct myself. apparently google presented me with the old 1.2.0 docs
in 1.9.0 NVDEC is supported
AMD VCN is still encoding only
and everything for video only, everything else is still CPU
well jsut confirmed the switch and cabling works
so now to actually set it up right and not just all over the floor
surprisingly only loosing 55mbit through 70FT of cabling
you shouldn't lose any speed over a cat 5e or 6 cable. 1GB should be sustained up to 100m
i tought cat6 was 50FT
Cat6 is 10gig for 100m
Sorry, that's 6a
Which is more standard
Base cat6 can do 10gbase-t for 55m
really? hmmm i guess that explains the bursts in speed that added up exceed 1000Mbit despite me only having 1000mbit
cause i will getting like 800mbit speedtest on two at once but i only have a gigabit source
i have so much excess cable lenght i have no idea how on earth im going to cable manage it
with this much i dont think its possible im gonna have to spool it at the middle in one way or another
Company finally upgraded my laptop RAM from 8 GB to 16 GB and there is no more freezing 🙂
Guess 8 GB is no longer enough even for business use and you need 16 GB minimum these days
i shoulda said "you wont lose any speed at that distance"
*although MS Teams loves to eat memory....
i was fine with 4GB on win11 with no issues outside of games
but running out with 8GB with just browsers and the office suite is odd
unless your using firefox which at that point theres your answer cause you have a good amount of ram wasted if your firefox behaves anything like mine and sits at like 3.5GB of ram usage on average
Corporate laptops also probably have a lot of background processes eating RAM. I use Chrome atm
yea i could see monitoring spyware and windows defender combined to cause issues actually
the amount of times i have checked task manager on a potato laptop and seen windwos defender 90% is too many
I got so happy when I could open a pdf file without freezing + other apps in the background at the same time
i need to remember to be careful on linux tho cause i dont have an anti virus and i keep forgetting that
IT guy installed RAM in 5 minutes while I was at break eating lunch lol
I wonder if they ordered OEM Dell RAM or some other brand with same specs. Going to check tomorrow
IT Ticket status was once at "Pending vendor" so I guess they checked with Dell if they have OEM memory sticks for my model
Starship test launch broadcast begins in about 70-80 min. it might be scrubbed cause of weather but they haven't said anything about that yet.
rockets that are bigger than the saturn v are cooool. i'm not the biggest fan of elon and his heiling ways, but i'm a huge fan of rockets
How much would y'all trust the reliability of an 11yo evga supernova 1000p2
probably fine but i try to use PSU's in warranty
To be fair it's only 6mo out of warranty 😄
ye
by probably fine i mean like
don't run a 5090 on it cause that is a whole bag of worms with liability etc
but it probably won't cause an issue
Yeah
9070xt and a 7800x3d
It was gonna go in my server where it'd see like 120w max but I don't have enough modular sata cables for the drives
So I might have to pull the PSU out of my daily and swap them
Other option is to put this ancient 700w thermaltake toughpower in there but I'd trust it much less than the evga unit
Because I'd be perfectly fine using the new build with the 750w evga in my current unit as well
But it has the sata cables I need
Its one of those things where it's a quality enough product that I can probably count on the protections being far from the first thing to fail as well
At the same time when do PSU protections ever really kick in
the likelihood of you needing them is always rather low
i dont know what to make of having a cable managed setup for the first time ever
having spent the past like 16 hours? idk i lost count cable managing this
Another reminder about "rules":
www.earth.com/news/100-year-old-chemistry-rule-bredts-rule-double-bonds-bridge-ring-system-proven-false/
Mostly holds, but isn't unbreakable, proven by practice
Extract from Wikipedia:
Chemists have been working on finding exceptions since the 60s
Article:
"This is not a tiny correction. It is like learning that you can divide by zero under narrowly defined conditions."
What's new:
They managed to stabilize these intermediates long enough so they can react with smth else
But it's not a century old rule that was blindly followed, never challenged and just now accidentally broken
1st community SVT version preset 7
2nd old version SVT preset 7
3rd VCE AV 1 quality mode (old version)
4th VCE AV 1 quality mode (new version)
all 1080p 60 (same footage)
also
somehow the VCE AV1 on the new handbrake actually looks a smidge better than the old one
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdUwn7ItaZE chatgpt 5 is a failure🤣
https://StartupHakk.com/Spencer/?live=2025.08.13
OpenAI just dropped GPT-5 with massive fanfare, claiming it's a "PhD-level expert in anything" - but here's the kicker: it can't even solve basic second-grade math!
When given the simple equation 5.9 = x + 5.11, GPT-5 confidently spat out x = -0.21. Any elementary school kid knows that's wrong!
...
havent really been following this but holy hell, closedai is really screwing things up even more than i expected
Just goes to show how quickly even established models can regress so much
Thankfully I don't rely or depend on them, rarely use any of the ai tools myself also, probably a good thing to considering what is happening with these current models, for better or for worse
maybe i was previously running RDNA 3's AV1 and now that i updated its running RDNA 4's AV1
its at the same bitrate?
hmmm looking at it, the newer encoder does seem to have captured more detail in the produced image, not bad
I would say its overall better
i wonder if H264 improved as well
only one way to find it👀
cuz previously at 6MBps (im encoding 6mbps here) it was pretty much unusable
cuz like it was straight garbo
yep h264 looks worse🙂
I would stay with AV 1
that old AV1 made a complete mockery out of H264
well
its diferent
P6 still has more of those wird artifacts than old P7
(wrong server lol)
idk what Gearbox did, but I can tell it's borderlands just from the font & health bar
they are some of the most iconic games tho
well, the cell shading they used to differentiate from other shooters is not that presen on these shots
so I am a bit surprised that status bar is enough to recognise
they did good job with style overall
though for codec comparison I would go for something with leaves, as its a more common visual feature then cell shading.
that said, I remember BL2 as having insane amount of PhysX particles, so they could be a good bench too. dunno about 3rd game
borderlands 4 has a super deluxe edition, 130 usd
dont remember the last time i played a borderlands game, but boy the pricing of these newer games looks to be going out of this world
and the naming schemes here seem to be pure cringe
naming?
it was 'none', 2, presequel, 3, 4... no?
oh, and Tiny Tinas something
wonderlands?
have you seen super deluxe edition yet
I got last 2 (pre 4) from EGS for free, so... didn't feel anything
no. why would I?
good, probably for the best
i had to look out of curiosity and now have a sense of regret
unless something is a DLC and base game is nominated for GOTY (subjectively) - I don't even bother huumoring myself with non-base editions
3rd game decided to go UE 4 and when it came out it was a pretty heavy game to run
but is it visually hard on codecs?
I don't remember any comments on particle system or anything else visually demanding
oh, yeah, 100% hard on codecs
even more so that the old ones since its much quicker paced than BL2/pre sequel and especially VS BL1
and there are general far more particle effects
agreed, but just looking at this it actually gets wors, you have to go with the super deluxe edition just to get all of the story missions, lord help us
meaning the base game doesn't even include all of the story content....
is gearbox turning into another corporation that is just going to milk its own franchises for everything it can
everything I remember about BL2 is barely managing to shoot all the bullets during Maya's ult that signifacntly impacted FPS (the cataclism that creautes a firework of visual noise)
And in presequel you can fly around as Athena with no rest
the thing is that AAA games are not for gamers - they are for investors to make profit
enjoying game is not part of the deal
gaming industry looks much more interesting once you turn away from blockbusters, towards passion projects
BL2 was the last one i played, im just looking at this out of curiosity but now just feel increasing regret
not saying it cannot be better, just a rule of thumb
true, why essentially you have to pay 130 usd to get the complete game
i thought the base game was the complete game, but it isn't....

like this channel* has its own little community that talks about whatever comes to mind
sorry we talked about BL and I just had to look at BL4, now i wished i didnt
even though its meant to be a tech channel
im not trying to be a make belive moderator
i just thought it was funny to point out
lets just pretend BL4 doesn't exist
it's a tech for tech nerds who talk about anything
it can't hurt you unless you pay for it
ehh off topic is off topic
anything is a technology if you say so
language is an interesting technology
hmmm pay 130 usd for the complete game, im going to be waiting a while for this to go on sale
im enjoying this far too much
enjoying my inner pain looking at it
apparently they thought scaling would allow them to reach AGI, so they spent half a trillion dollars proving it doesn't work

yep and made a ai that now can't even do basic math right
But it seems another case of; Sam Altman and Co hyping up next release with unrealistic promises.
new version gets released with too much hype
new versions doesn't meat hype expactations and you get backlash/dissapointment.
I wonder if this is what they envision with AGI, inability to do even the most basic of math
We tried to make computer more like humans and in the end we got computers that were so good at pretending to be human, they became bad at being computers
Startup Hakk makes a good point, why not redirect math problems to a model that is made for math.
but openAI wants to show how confident they are in their "intelligence."
or just give it to a calculator
I mean even basic calculators wouldnt get that problem wrong....
makes one wonder what chatgpt is even doing anymore
thinking
I would have asked chatgpt for the proof of x = -0.21, because
And watch the model have a nervous break down
Oh, and they nuked the old models. Wow. So no access to old models.
And everyone has to use chatGPT 5 now?
Also, I find it weird they try to add "personalities" to code.
You can change the personalities ... but I don't want that. Just answer correct 🤣
What are we with the way AI answers, if the answer is wrong.
yep looking at it now, cynic looks fun
How would you determine if a problem is made for math or linguistic prediction?
just helping make people not use it
It's called artificial intelligence. Sure they find a way. It should be able to do that.
I even can set it to life coach rofl.
Yeah, it's called that. Which is one of the many issues with it.
It's an LLM. It's a linguistic predictor.
It's not intelligent, it just mimics human speech.
Unlike a parrot it has become very good at that, but it's still just that: an imitator
same way the models are somehow going to reach AGI I imagine, aka blackbox solution and they'll never tell us how it works
If an AI can seperate cat pictures from dog pictures, sure they can train it to spot math problems.
This is just worse, your 5th major release and it can't do basic math.
I feel like AGI will just be a fuckton of interconnected specialized systems that are managed by some central component
Like the IMO solver:
Run brute force maths solver, give to LLM for "creative" input, repeat until solved or timeout
well apparently they "fixed it", I just tested it and it gave the correct answer....for now
you know until chatgpt 6, when who knows what will go wrong
Yeah 4 does it well.
Except these are two completely different systems and usecases.
An image recognition tool can't draw despite being far more on topic than an LLM
lol 5 went very minimalistic.
If you were to build a maths engine into ChatGPT, you'd still have the LLM first to determine whether it's a maths problem or not.
And just like LLM's outstanding capabilities at solving maths problems, they will struggle to recognize and accurately relay maths information to a separate system
I remember when they said chatgpt was going to be phd levels of intelligence and im like well I would think a phd level of intelligence would be a bit beyond basic math
My main issue with AI is its marketing and its usage.
And then I think of the people I work with and realize that having a PhD doesn't mean you can do basic maths
So chatgpt is being accurate after all
Reminds me of the time they fixed "how many R in strawberry" which fucked it up in other languages
I remember the time when chatgpt lost its marbles, if it had one anyways and just started randomly going on and on abou stuff that didn't make any sense
I recall at the time because twitter/x had alot of stuff with people posting about it and how it seemed chatgpt was losing its mind
That's the marketing/hype talk. Probably to please investors.
who are probably not happy right now 😄
probably yes
i mean it will be once its not being monopolized
Lately I've seen so much AI generated content, bigoted takes, overcapitalized content and whatnot, that it made me wonder:
where on the internet I would have to go to get back that sense of community it used to have?
what do you mean?
I think I'm just burnt out from being chronically online
everything is fake and everyone you interact with on social media is bots and npc comments
il say it for you
Anywhere I go, I see dead chatrooms, loaded political debates, AI slop, late stage capitalism, turbo-monetized slop and it just sucks
🤷♂️
waiting for late stage ai
maybe chatgpt 5 is a sign we are slowly going into that now
I rarely go to pubs
Yeah... I had a hunch
Not everyone, luckily.
But far too many for it to be enjoyable
The amount of drunken discussions I had to hear about politics in pubs, too many ... 🤣
ehh id say in my personal experience anyhting form the last 4 years is like 75%+ interacting with a brick wall of random bullshit
best part, next day everyone forgot 99% and on they go!
maybe disconnect from discord for a few days/weeks.
I feel like the social part of the internet is moving back to what it was before COVID.
People who know each other IRL that use the internet for doing stuff together.
And less so for people to meet online
touch some grass or something, I don't know 😄
And I just failed to get back on that train by building myself a primarily online social circle
Yeah, which is why I avoid that bullshit.
And it made me realize how empty the internet is nowadays
It's not discord. It's everything online.
And I just lack a local peergroup to be able to go offline
So it's an ever-repeating cycle
honestly id say discord is one of the less afected platforms
anyhting with a comments section is way wost
I can't stay online because it's burning me out.
I don't go offline because almost my entire social circle is online.
I don't build offline connections because I'm chronically online
Personally opinion;
-
It's not the internets fault. I have a great time depending on what I do and context. Discord is hit and miss, a lot of male ape behavior and "actually..." white knight high horsy stuff. But when it comes to ingame communities, playing the game with the headset on or just chat. I have a lovely time. It's all so predictable. You have the trolls. You have jesters. I laugh my ass off from time to time on the internet. Youtube comments etc are anothe beast. It really depends on context.
-
You don't need social network to go outside. I do it all the time.
honestly story of my life
and what dosent help is no one around me shares my interests and i hate doing things without a purpose
and another issue I have with the internet, human communication is more than words.
It's intonation, expression, body language, ... all these things fall away when chatting by text. So more room for misinterpretation/conflicts etc.
I could be crying right now and non of you would know.
A question out of curiosity:
How many people do you have face to face interactions with per day?
Just a rough average estimation
personally maybe 3
same
For me, less than one.
I have and I do.
I am active in a local esports club where I run their Twitter account and Twitch streams if there's a game going on
not what I had in mind but ok 😄
I have met plenty people, but I hardly ever do anything with them
I know
because it's still PC stuff 😛
I have thought about other things too, but there's nothing really there where I can see myself just stepping in and seeing where things go
I don't have much time to commit since I'm working full-time
i work 3 months of the year not even
Weren't you doing D&D and in a group?
Which is one of the worst things about this whole ordeal: I work a full-time job and the amount of actual face-to-face conversations I have with anyone is basically zero
I'm a player in a group that hasn't played in months now and I have DM'd for two oneshots
honestly you seem to just be having hte same problem im having
anyone i meet online mysteriously disapears unannounced for months on end out of nowhere and you end up back to square one
Worse: it's games that I don't really care about playing.
I absolutely love watching LoL or RL, but I suck at playing them.
So most of the people I meet, I could just hop in VC and play with them.
But they're far above my skill level and it's a game that I just don't really enjoy
I always invest to the people closest to me. My family.
All the rest, in real life or online, comes and goes. That's life.
Also, invest in yourself.
You knowe why? Your stuck with yourself forever 🤣
yea im trying
but myself hates helping myself
cause i havent slept a good nights sleep in 6 days straight now
change is scary
I meant in real life D&D. It's seems all social interactions you have, is from behind a keyboard?
maybe you could benefit from a dog. Something that forces you to go outside daily for a walk.
if your work is IT. And your hobbies are all computer related... then you are kinda disconnected from the world.
im glad i do have a few things out of tech i can do but yea 9 months out of the year i have nothing to do
i think im gonna go back to bed
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IOh0S_L3C4, when you realize these current model can't reach AGI

would love to tbh
Hard to find smth to do together tho
Both of those DND groups are IRL groups, nothing online.
not really two separate groups, a lot of overlap
Landlord doesn't allow dogs in the house.
And I would have to take it to work with me
My family has a dog which I'm regularly being asked to take care of.
Doesn't really work for me logistically
And the issue isn't really about not going outside, it's not knowing people
I took up a new hobby in archery recently but I haven't gone there in weeks now due to shitty schedules on my side
Benefit of archery is that it's not just something to spend my time doing, it's a workout
Hmmm nope its gone

eitherway, AI costs are going through the roof and it does not look sustainable at all
Wasn't that predicted?
It isnt, thats part of the bubble
Aka the bubble that's going to pop at some point
probably by some?
but generaly a lot of people thought it would go down.
wich is true for older models.
but no one wants to use older models

the neural scaling laws is part of the reason why costs are going up, they are trying to throw more gpu compute at the problem, but its rapidly reaching diminishing returns because of how the models work
most likely its already at the limit and it won't get much better than it is now
uh idk, reasoning in what i posted is that
reasoning models are using 100x the tokens of what non reasoning models use
so yeah its related in the way that they "cheat" better performance by just using way more compute for slightly better results
and vastly increased prices
yeah why i think its roughly related, costs going up and its related to the neural scaling problem
what im more interested in is low latency efficient models that still keep good performance
they are trying to brute force to slightly better solutions but because of that line that can't be crossed, they aren't ever going to reach the results they would want
thats the good stuff
both are good video's that gives a think a decent picture of why the current approach has basically plateaued unless some drastic break throughs are found, aka a completely new way to try to simulate intelligence would need to be invented
failures like chatgpt 5, etc are just now the more recent examples of, why the models aren't going to be getting much better, not without a drastic rework of how the models even work at the most basic of levels anyways, but that would be probably another decade or more of research, such break throughs take alot of time and research
and even within the next decade its hard to say what break throughs could happen or what form they might take
or if at all.
we might just get stuck for an eternity with only very marginal improvements over years
i think we are still in the beginning
way too many people are still overhpyed
somewhere here i think.
we are not getting the gains that everyone though we would get anymore, but it has not arived in a lot of peoples minds
If that, you can see in the above video, there is that line no model can cross
depends on what you mean by improvement
if we can continue to make models cheaper without losing performance
thats also improvement
(i might just not be getting it, i didnt watch the entire video)
Performance in this case is measured in error rates and reducing error rates requires models with large parameters
Thats how the current models work anyways
perhaps we mgiht see more specialized models
Kind of funny when you consider what we have now isn't even close to a AGI, as all its doing is guessing what the next word is and trying to reduce the error to the response doesnt make itself sound stupid
but it will take everyones job!!!
if you think its stupid, you must be prompting wrong!!!!
it's a brittle mirage that you can snap with one wrong word
Aka actual reasoning and intelligence more or less isnt involved here, why I can't help but look at these models and realize just how impossible AGI is with them, because you have something that can't actually grow or learn anything even close to how the brain works
it will still probably take people's jobs even if it's shit. like how nobody likes supermarket self checkout and it leads to theft but they use it cause it's cheaper
i like self checkout
unexpected item in bagging area
In other words reasoning with chatgpt and models like it is at best a pipe dream
never had that happen.
idk what US shops use, but in germany it "just works"
for small or medium sized carts it works great
And chatgpt not even being able to do basic math is proof these models learn nothing at all
We live in the illusion of ai, enjoy
i enjoy ai.
i like it, i use it.
but i wont overhype it
But the investors won't be happy without the hype, regardless of how far from reality that is
Imagine the investors arent happy with openai
not just investors, average people act like AI is the next coming of christ.
Because you known the hype train is ruined
just yesterday got in an argument, because i dont feel like my job is in too much danger.
(finihshing my CS degree and working on the side in software dev)
But dont worry chatgpt 6 hype is definitely a thing and likely in the works
i cant even say that its in the works, because of the price explosions.
probably, but who knows realy
Well thankfully I can ignore the price explosions
I honestly dont use gpt enough for it
i use it on my thesis project. (i DONT let it write anything, just bugfixing, brainstorming and other simple tasks)
Its been months since I have even gone onto the site, just can't much practical use from it
Actually suprised they haven't already, they lost 5 billion last year, idk off hand how much they'll lose this year
That isnt exactly a business that works, why I wonder how much longer openai will go on
all the same to me, i dont have an attatchment to any specific model
i realy like ai for getting some quick questions answered
like i was eating a lot of canned tuna and started to worry about the mercury content.
so i had gpt do some research for me and it looked fine
Only reason openai is still running is because it gets billions in investment, but as a investor you eventually want a return, so theres that
sure i could have gone on google and looked for the info within like 30 minutes.
but instead it was a 5 minute job
Probably what's going to happen is openai is going to go bankrupt and that will be the start of the ai bubble beginning to pop, likely to accelerate after that
Not even close
Its interesting how history repeats in a way, we had the dot com bubble, other bubbles after that, recent one is ai bubble
I guess people really like bubbles, we keep making them
housing bubble is probably a thing rn too.
but thats a way slower moving thing
as things are going i wont own a home.
but maybe if that pops there will be a chance
inflation fetish
Well what else can happen, people buy homes they can't afford
We have had multiple housing bubbles, they always pop, because you price everyone out of the market
And no housing being sold can only go on for so long
Not a question on if, more of when all bubbles pop
That being said you can still find afford areas to move to, just have to avoid where housing inflation is currently happening
Like where I live housing inflation is going out of control and if you look to areas north there is much more affordable areas
They did? All I read the last year is; X country is building more data centers to handle AI request etc.
And in my simple little head; more data center = ⚡ 📈
Guess X isnt long for this world either
Honestly dont know what these companies are thinking, speed run to bankruptcy

Also related, they are certainly right LLMS aren't the future for ai, as getting to actual AGI requires much deeper approaches
What is it called? Race to the bottom? (I think it's a term applying to cheap products).
Took them long enough to figure that out.
The GN story is pretty crazy too 🤣 GN vs Bloomberg. ding ding - "Round one!".
How would you put plumber's hemp on a concealed shut-off valve thread if the thread is inside the hole and your fingers can't reach it?
I need to replace the top part
Basically, I need to unscrew the top part and screw in a new part in a valve while somehow applying plumber's hemp on the thread that's inside the hole first
Hard to find qualified plumbers these days. Last one charged us a lot but installed terrible valves I need to replace now...
Sorry, my phone doesn't have a saved number for Super Mario Bros
shit, best plumbers one could ask for
just make sure there are no princesses around, or they gone

Question : to power up your computer, you normally :
1️⃣ press the power button on your computer case
2️⃣ press the start button on your motherboard
3️⃣ press the clear cmos button at the back, near the I/O ports
4️⃣ put liquid plutonium in that LN2 cooler you used to beat overclocking records this summer
5️⃣ feed your space hamsters with beans and have them run at full speed in their quantum gyros (bonus energy when they break wind because of the beans)
Right now, I have to use 3️⃣ otherwise my PC wont boot up and I have no idea why 🤣
Doesn't sound normal. But I would start going for option 4️⃣. No need to turn of PC
I know, but and that's why I'm really stumped. Otherwise, I have to completely unplug the PSU, clear cmos, then plug it back in. And I also have to resync the time using windows settings
otherwise the computer time is lagging behing by how many hours it was shutdown
The AI bubble popping will be like the internet bubble popping. How it popped and a bigger more commercial internet was left behind, with fewer companies commanding it.
AI post bubble will be a lot of the same. They'll figure out how to put ads into AI
My guess is that like youtube, open ai will be absorbed by it's primary investor that provides all the servers for hosting it.
CMOS holds information for when you power down the your PC. The CMOS battery provides power to CMOS to hold information like time, bios settings etc. So next time you boot the PC, it loads in data from CMOS. If you clear it, it's normal that you need to set the time again. I am not sure why you need to unplug the battery before you do a CMOS.
Oh, I thought that the time passing was like "permanently written", but it makes sense now. So it's probably not a CMOS battery problem then.
Well researchers that work in the AI space have likely known for a while that LLMS aren't the way to AGI, but it seems to be more openly discussed now, but it also remains to be seen if the models they are working on is the path to AGI either.
you should probably use plutonium 238 into the cmos battery
i heard it needs it to maintain function
Plutonium 239 will be in all future cmos batteries
"brand new motherboard with special plutonium reactor technology to further improve the efficiency of your motherboard"
technology progresses so fast that it doesn't need a cmos battery to last that long.
manufactureres will use the cheapest most reliable option
Well it used to, but nvidia made a refresh generation aka 50 series, so idk if that is going to hold true anymore
we might need those longer lasting batteries if progress continues to slow down like it is
you're confusing teh AMD 580s refreshing the 480s. The 5080 is far more capable than a 4080. I know this because i have a 4080 and teh 50 would be a significant upgrade
but of course this could all be signs that moore's law is indeed dead
besides, the slow pace of GPU generations is more due to covid killing all development of new silicon foundaries than any kind of market condition. All the momentum was lost and it'll take time to build it back up to the same speed where we were seeing memory bandwidths double every couple generations
covid hard paused everything.
but i'll have to see how much progress might be slowing down on the transistor side in the coming years
the paradigm of moores law will just shift to another. when we max out on transistor density, another way to improve will be developed
the upper bounds of computation are not anywhere close
don't know how 15% is a significant upgrade, is progressing slowing down that much that is now considered signficiant upgrade now
if the ocean rose 15% that would be SIGNIFICANT
I remember in the past when per generation gave more than that
yeah, increasing transistor density requires entirely new silicon foundries to be built. You can't put a 4nm production line into a factory made for 16nm. so you build a new one.
moores law didn't account for a global pandemic absolutely halting all that infrastructure development
we aren't comparing oceans though, this is like comparing apples to pizza
so is 5% if thats next gen going to be considered a significant upgrade now
just an example that 15% is a fuck load in a lot of other contexts. 15% improvement on a card that gets 20fps is 23fps. 15% on 100 fps is 115fps.
were 3 gpu generations in a row of no improvement outside of the 90 class which is wild
I remember going from 20 series to 40 series was over 100% faster, now 15% is a significant upgrade, how times have changed
4080 is far better than a 3080. i know this because my friend has a 3080 and is jealous of mine.
its even worse when you look at it from that way isnt it
also, 3 generations of gpu are about when covid started. can't really blame anything other than that massive blip in the market
so 15% is still being generous
my 1070 is an improvement over a 4050
and even those numbers arent looking very good....
well, i dont know what to say at that point, its sadly true
yes going back 3 gen is now a improvement, how things have.....progressed
atleas tif your in the midrange you can get today performance for yesterdays used prices
or is this regression we are seeing
cause what a 2070 is like 150$ now or smt
as is tradition, lets use doom as the benchmark
well time to downgrade to get that upgrade i guess
i wouldn't pay $150 for a 2070. that seems like a store over charging for shelf stocking costs
you think a 1200 dollar gpu is the same as a 2070? rage bait used to be believable
i mean if you add the nvidia tax to it yea
well
i paid 700$ for a 1660 super lmao
thats only a 1000% tax, it isn't that much🫠
i paid $450 for a vega 64. nearly as good at a 1070ti
ran a lot hotter too
am honestly not surprised that AMD abandoned the vega architecture
it's even worse using this comparison, 3% faster
i wonder what is the dream used cpu lineup to get
cause like after i got 50% performance increase out of overclocking my 10700F it really got me wondering what hidden potential is out there
5090 using that chart basically right within oc margins of difference
from the 3080 to the 4080? because a 5080 isn't on that. I agree that a 5090 is more of a prosumer device and isn't needed for gaming. a 3090 maxes all gaming engines really.
yes a glorious 4 fps more, significant upgrade indeed
it's also a 1080p benchmark
we really have gone hard into diminishing returns havent we
yeep
guess 5090 = 4090 super
i want my 10GHZ cpu dangit
the 3080 to 4080 is 69fps to 101fps. if you look at the important stat of the low frame rate. 40% increase there
i should have looked at those charts more because 4 fps is even worse than I expected
3060 to 4060 being a 10fps diffrence is a miracle tbh
the 90s series are really more of a 4k card if you want to use them for gaming. the improvemetns in blackwell are more for machine learned stuff
sounds great
sadly linus is too short to see the first 4`9 pixels
at 3% improvement over the last gen, never progress basically isn't being made by any margin worth talking about
at that rate it will only take 33 years to get a gpu that is double as fast
i never herad this linus is short meme. dude is 5'11
i just looked that up since i've never actually cared about his height
and im pretty sure in 33 years ill be to old to even care at all lol
one things for sure. in my life, the people concerned about height the most are the ones who are most insecure about their own physical worth
sounds true

idk if anybody saw this
yea obviously did
i don't watch GN since they've become drama llamas over there. constantly baiting the drama
fun times isnt it
i liked them better when they were just reviews and analysis but then they started getting huge view counts on their expose's
enshitification cycle continues
idk i found the gpu smuggling video interesting enough, actually had some information in it
3 hours was pretty long though
yea i nerver finished it
and yes i watched it all
yeah but bloomberg gave the dmca notice but they acted like it was nvidia trying to suppress them for revealing it.
I'm guessing they crafted the outrage for clickbaits. like they used bloomberg footage knowing a dmca request would occur
their "we never saw this coming" response just gave me that vibe
bloomberg started this bullshit with their abusing the dcma strike system, so bloomberg in this case deserves it, because they caused it
so yeah, no pity for bloomberg
and the drama llama cycle continues
they get what they deserve
GN will milk this for views for a month
blame bloomberg?
