Same here but the police officer crossed the empty street while it was red lol

night girder
#

but nobody does over here 😄

night girder
#

Because they could only, legally make a U turn there, if they had sirens on.

visual tree
#

I've seen police and paramedics sometimes abusing sirens without any reason too

night girder
#

With great power comes great responsibility... right? hehe

#

well some people need it to work.

visual tree
#

Speaking of responsibility, I've also noticed selfish drivers who refuse to make an emergency corridor (or don't know they have to make an emergency corridor)

night girder
#

yeah, good luck here mate

#

have fun traveling 3 hours to work. and 3 hours back

#

and work 10 hours. 16 hours for a job. Yeah. 1 hour to eat and then to bed.

#

Do that 6 out 7 days and we talk again 😉

#

I am not oppose to public transpot. use it for all I care.

#

It's not for me, and I have the right to drive a car.

#

and if they take that right away, give me back horses! 🤣

#

bro, I know you memory is shit.

night girder
#

We are still pretty bad at it on highways. As in, we don't leave a middle road open in a traffic jam for emergency vehicles.

visual tree
#

Not making an emergency corridor or abusing one should have higher fines imo because someone's life could literally be at risk

night girder
#

Here some people use that to get pass traffic jams.

#

Google translates it to : hard shoulder?

visual tree
night girder
#

well, I get confused now.

#

Because emergency lane is also the lane we create during a traffic jam.

#

Probably just tranlation issues on my part haha

visual tree
night girder
#

Ah corridor. yeah that might be it.

#

Didn't say that. I said your memory is shit.

Well solution seems simple for you. But I leave that to you.

Btw, I noticed there is a "fictional voter" on my address although It's well-known that elections here are fishy

#

There are many villages where there are like 100 residents but 300 registered voters. That's how you win elections....

night girder
#

Not here. You will get caught.

visual tree
#

Cosmic ray jacelul

night girder
#

Veritasium talks about it.

visual tree
#

There are like 3.600.000 people here and 4.000.000 registered voters

#

And I don't believe in a statement that dead people can't vote. There is not a 100% solid proof for that

#

When you vote, you go to your designated voting center, show your ID, wait for a person to check if you are a registered voter (and haven't voted before already) and they give you a voting ballot if everything is fine

#

But how do I know there isn't a "fictional" voting center where they pretend to vote for dead people?

night girder
#

check the cemeteries when there is elections.

#

Send a picture of ghosts voting when you find them 🤣

#

I get you. There is a level of trust involved between population and the goverment when it comes to voting.

visual tree
#

I mean, they could just take a ballot, vote for a candidate and write down that a "dead person" has voted because the dead person has not been erased from a voter register

#

And nobody checks if that person is actually dead, they just see they are a registered voter

night girder
#

well there should be flags if citizens are deceased.

#

pretty sure there is a db for that (for the goverment).

#

That's why I said; it's just trust. Hope the goverment has systems in place to prevent fraud.

visual tree
night girder
#

I cannot speak for your country.

#

🙈

#

Here, I've seen or read no proof about voting manipulation. So I trust it's a "fair" game.

visual tree
#

Can't wait to visit a local police station and ask for a list of all people who have a residence on my address (since voters have their designated voting center based on residence)

#

They will probably say something like: "We can only tell you if you have a residence in your address as a property owner but we can't tell you which other people might have residence in your address because of GDPR" 🤣

#

GDPR is a double-edge sword. Sometimes it only makes things worse

night girder
#

Is it legal to have your adress on a residence you don't own?

#

Because if it isn't legal. GDPR means jackshit. And the police should take action.

#

Doesn't mean they have to give you the adres. They could handle it themselves. Or escalate to proper instances.

#

Let me know how it ends 🤣

visual tree
#

You need a consent from the owner

#

Unless you have a residence at your parent's house, then you don't need a consent

visual tree
#

Why would anyone do this?

#

Someone posted heatmap on reddit of what appears to be an office with more than 25 access points

#

You could literally cover the whole residential building with so many access points tired_jace

#

Or maybe those are locations where signal strengths were being tested but why would you make so many tests for literally each meter

wanton orchid

wait no, I thought it was scaled for signal

#

of the doors are 1:1 then it's absolutely not and it's absolutely stupid

#

some ap provider got gold

visual tree
#

Assuming the office has drywall which doesn't weaken the signal as concrete, you could go with 4 standard access points or 2 professional ones with better range

#

Or maybe 3 standard Ubiquiti access points from the top to bottom in the middle

#

Not my office jace_smile

Only way that makes sense to me, is that we see 2D of a 3D appartment building or sky scrapper, so the access points are spread over multiple levels of the building.

# dire igloo You make zero sense rn. Like, the words you say don't connect to any meaning in ...

you said that you are glad that they stick to simple stuff, like explosions.
what I ma saying is that you take a different perspective and investigate if there are connected acts of violence, then they might be classified as terrorism too, and that would change the statistics a lot. Meaning, you won't say anymore "I am glad they just use bombs", you would see there are many more more sophisticated ways to cause physical, psychological, financial harm. Including raising mistrust to the government, law enforcement etc.
But ofcourse, it all won't make sense unless you investigate.

dire igloo

Obviously I know about shit like Cambridge Analytica or Russian misinformation.
That's not what I consider terrorism tho

I just had a realization that it's like partisan warfare
except the ones distributing guides on how to do stuff are much more subtle, use internet instead of paper, and can much more precisely tune target audience.
and they need to forge a trigger to action, unlike in actual war where partisans usually have all the reasons created by invaders already.

# sterile plinth Bro, you don't even want to see my collection of batteries for the orochi v2

Modern mice with li-ion batteries like phones are really good. You have to recharge them for 15 mins.. twice a week if you're using them 12hrs a day with 8k polling, but only once or twice a month with more casual usage or lower polling rates.

The batteries to do that weigh a fraction of what an alkaline AAA battery does (~2-6g) and they're rechargeable for thousands of cycles.

Wireless mice from before the ~ G pro wireless have massively worse batteries and all kinds of issues. The Orochi 2015 weighs upto 110g (so it's ~twice as dense as these modern wireless mice, even with lower weight batteries!) and has its center of mass miles away from the center of the mouse, for example, those things alone make it far less usable.

wireless headsets still add a substantial amount of latency, hasn't been fixed yet. I guess because they push far more data than a mouse does.

lol brainwashed by the ai. lol. meanwhile, that's actually good advice and is how you test electronics to make sure they work, but you should be a trained electriction or have experience with something like that before going and probing a PSU with a meter still. The true brianwashing here is being so against LLMs and AI that you can't accept any knowledge from them, even good advice

#

i jump start my pc with a paperclip everyday. just not that way. i bridge two pins on my mobo, i just happen to know which pins would go to the the power button. like i said before, i salvaged an alien ware case and i've never gottena round to adapting dell's power button circuitry to my msi mobo. at one point i intended to custom make my own power button but this has been working well and i haven't got around to it yet

#

bridging those two pins in your power connector is the same idea. it's just a signal circuit

soft bloom
#

to be clear, I did search for a proper article and followed it instead of ai answer which was only used to get. Gist of what to do.
It's always better this way when there's any doubt or danger. which there is generally when ac is involved...
But 24pin connector has no ac in itself, only dc, up to 12v. If you don't involve cpu part, then there really isn't much current going. The PS on pin isn't carrying much energy at all. And you don't uave need need tot ouch it while psu is on, or even with your bare hands - isolated tweezers are an option.

#

I didn't go for measuring voltages since it's enough for me that fan spins when turned on this way.
Which doesn't happen with front power button.
Should try booting without it

While its true they aren't useless, we still certainly are in a massive bubble

bronze jasper

yeah. i said that. so i'm double tru.

its from over investment, not because it's a fad that'll fail. the bubble comes from it being so early in the game right now and there are many killer apps to be found

Only real question i have is when the bubble is going to pop and what happens after that, because ai actually has practical applications, its only the value and money thats being thrown around that seems to be spiraling out of control

i'd sooner say it's a whole new computational paradigm than it is a fad. but i wouldn't bet on either of those outcomes just yet.

When given the simple equation 5.9 = x + 5.11, GPT-5 confidently spat out x = -0.21. Any elementary school kid knows that's wrong!

and reasoning models are spamming tokens like there is no tomorow

#

roughly related

sharp matrix
#

the neural scaling laws is part of the reason why costs are going up, they are trying to throw more gpu compute at the problem, but its rapidly reaching diminishing returns because of how the models work

#

most likely its already at the limit and it won't get much better than it is now

ivory rampart
#

uh idk, reasoning in what i posted is that
reasoning models are using 100x the tokens of what non reasoning models use

#

so yeah its related in the way that they "cheat" better performance by just using way more compute for slightly better results

#

and vastly increased prices

sharp matrix
#

yeah why i think its roughly related, costs going up and its related to the neural scaling problem

ivory rampart
#

what im more interested in is low latency efficient models that still keep good performance

sharp matrix
#

they are trying to brute force to slightly better solutions but because of that line that can't be crossed, they aren't ever going to reach the results they would want

ivory rampart
#

thats the good stuff

sharp matrix
#

both are good video's that gives a think a decent picture of why the current approach has basically plateaued unless some drastic break throughs are found, aka a completely new way to try to simulate intelligence would need to be invented

#

failures like chatgpt 5, etc are just now the more recent examples of, why the models aren't going to be getting much better, not without a drastic rework of how the models even work at the most basic of levels anyways, but that would be probably another decade or more of research, such break throughs take alot of time and research

#

and even within the next decade its hard to say what break throughs could happen or what form they might take

ivory rampart
#

or if at all.
we might just get stuck for an eternity with only very marginal improvements over years

willow pike
#

we are deep in phase 4

ivory rampart
#

i think we are still in the beginning

#

way too many people are still overhpyed

#

somewhere here i think.
we are not getting the gains that everyone though we would get anymore, but it has not arived in a lot of peoples minds

sharp matrix
ivory rampart
#

depends on what you mean by improvement

#

if we can continue to make models cheaper without losing performance

#

thats also improvement

#

(i might just not be getting it, i didnt watch the entire video)

sharp matrix
#

Thats how the current models work anyways

ivory rampart
#

perhaps we mgiht see more specialized models

sharp matrix
#

Kind of funny when you consider what we have now isn't even close to a AGI, as all its doing is guessing what the next word is and trying to reduce the error to the response doesnt make itself sound stupid

ivory rampart
#

jace_smile but it will take everyones job!!!
if you think its stupid, you must be prompting wrong!!!!

willow pike
#

it's a brittle mirage that you can snap with one wrong word

sharp matrix
#

Aka actual reasoning and intelligence more or less isnt involved here, why I can't help but look at these models and realize just how impossible AGI is with them, because you have something that can't actually grow or learn anything even close to how the brain works

willow pike
willow pike
sharp matrix
#

In other words reasoning with chatgpt and models like it is at best a pipe dream

ivory rampart
#

never had that happen.
idk what US shops use, but in germany it "just works"

for small or medium sized carts it works great

sharp matrix
#

And chatgpt not even being able to do basic math is proof these models learn nothing at alljace_smile

#

We live in the illusion of ai, enjoyhehe

ivory rampart
#

i enjoy ai.
i like it, i use it.
but i wont overhype it

sharp matrix
#

Imagine the investors arent happy with openai jace_smile

ivory rampart
#

not just investors, average people act like AI is the next coming of christ.

sharp matrix
#

Because you known the hype train is ruined

ivory rampart
#

just yesterday got in an argument, because i dont feel like my job is in too much danger.
(finihshing my CS degree and working on the side in software dev)

sharp matrix
#

But dont worry chatgpt 6 hype is definitely a thing and likely in the workshehe

ivory rampart
#

i cant even say that its in the works, because of the price explosions.

#

probably, but who knows realy

sharp matrix
ivory rampart
#

i have gpt+

#

if they increase prices, im jumping ship

sharp matrix
#

I honestly dont use gpt enough for it

ivory rampart
#

i use it on my thesis project. (i DONT let it write anything, just bugfixing, brainstorming and other simple tasks)

sharp matrix
#

Its been months since I have even gone onto the site, just can't much practical use from it

sharp matrix
#

That isnt exactly a business that works, why I wonder how much longer openai will go on

ivory rampart
#

all the same to me, i dont have an attatchment to any specific model

#

i realy like ai for getting some quick questions answered

#

like i was eating a lot of canned tuna and started to worry about the mercury content.

so i had gpt do some research for me and it looked fine

sharp matrix
#

Only reason openai is still running is because it gets billions in investment, but as a investor you eventually want a return, so theres that

ivory rampart
#

sure i could have gone on google and looked for the info within like 30 minutes.
but instead it was a 5 minute job

sharp matrix
#

Probably what's going to happen is openai is going to go bankrupt and that will be the start of the ai bubble beginning to pop, likely to accelerate after that

ivory rampart
#

now my feed is full of these

sharp matrix
#

Its interesting how history repeats in a way, we had the dot com bubble, other bubbles after that, recent one is ai bubble

#

I guess people really like bubbles, we keep making themjace_smile

ivory rampart
#

housing bubble is probably a thing rn too.
but thats a way slower moving thing

#

as things are going i wont own a home.
but maybe if that pops there will be a chance

sharp matrix
#

We have had multiple housing bubbles, they always pop, because you price everyone out of the market

#

And no housing being sold can only go on for so long

#

Not a question on if, more of when all bubbles pop

#

That being said you can still find afford areas to move to, just have to avoid where housing inflation is currently happening

#

Like where I live housing inflation is going out of control and if you look to areas north there is much more affordable areas

night girder
#

And in my simple little head; more data center = ⚡ 📈

sharp matrix
#

Honestly dont know what these companies are thinking, speed run to bankruptcy jace_smile

sharp matrix

Also related, they are certainly right LLMS aren't the future for ai, as getting to actual AGI requires much deeper approaches

karmic socket
#

Question : to power up your computer, you normally :
1️⃣ press the power button on your computer case
2️⃣ press the start button on your motherboard
3️⃣ press the clear cmos button at the back, near the I/O ports
4️⃣ put liquid plutonium in that LN2 cooler you used to beat overclocking records this summer
5️⃣ feed your space hamsters with beans and have them run at full speed in their quantum gyros (bonus energy when they break wind because of the beans)

#

Right now, I have to use 3️⃣ otherwise my PC wont boot up and I have no idea why 🤣

night girder
#

Doesn't sound normal. But I would start going for option 4️⃣. No need to turn of PC hehe

karmic socket
#

I know, but and that's why I'm really stumped. Otherwise, I have to completely unplug the PSU, clear cmos, then plug it back in. And I also have to resync the time using windows settings

#

otherwise the computer time is lagging behing by how many hours it was shutdown

bronze jasper
#

The AI bubble popping will be like the internet bubble popping. How it popped and a bigger more commercial internet was left behind, with fewer companies commanding it.

#

AI post bubble will be a lot of the same. They'll figure out how to put ads into AI

#

My guess is that like youtube, open ai will be absorbed by it's primary investor that provides all the servers for hosting it.

night girder
#

CMOS holds information for when you power down the your PC. The CMOS battery provides power to CMOS to hold information like time, bios settings etc. So next time you boot the PC, it loads in data from CMOS. If you clear it, it's normal that you need to set the time again. I am not sure why you need to unplug the battery before you do a CMOS.

karmic socket
#

Oh, I thought that the time passing was like "permanently written", but it makes sense now. So it's probably not a CMOS battery problem then.

sharp matrix
# mental oriole Took them long enough to figure that out.

Well researchers that work in the AI space have likely known for a while that LLMS aren't the way to AGI, but it seems to be more openly discussed now, but it also remains to be seen if the models they are working on is the path to AGI either.

manufactureres will use the cheapest most reliable option

sharp matrix

we might need those longer lasting batteries if progress continues to slow down like it isjace_smile

bronze jasper
#

you're confusing teh AMD 580s refreshing the 480s. The 5080 is far more capable than a 4080. I know this because i have a 4080 and teh 50 would be a significant upgrade

sharp matrix
#

but of course this could all be signs that moore's law is indeed dead

bronze jasper
#

besides, the slow pace of GPU generations is more due to covid killing all development of new silicon foundaries than any kind of market condition. All the momentum was lost and it'll take time to build it back up to the same speed where we were seeing memory bandwidths double every couple generations

#

covid hard paused everything.

sharp matrix
#

but i'll have to see how much progress might be slowing down on the transistor side in the coming years

bronze jasper
#

the paradigm of moores law will just shift to another. when we max out on transistor density, another way to improve will be developed

#

the upper bounds of computation are not anywhere close

sharp matrix
bronze jasper
#

if the ocean rose 15% that would be SIGNIFICANT

sharp matrix
#

I remember in the past when per generation gave more than that

bronze jasper
#

yeah, increasing transistor density requires entirely new silicon foundries to be built. You can't put a 4nm production line into a factory made for 16nm. so you build a new one.

moores law didn't account for a global pandemic absolutely halting all that infrastructure development

sharp matrix
#

so is 5% if thats next gen going to be considered a significant upgrade nowhehe

bronze jasper
#

just an example that 15% is a fuck load in a lot of other contexts. 15% improvement on a card that gets 20fps is 23fps. 15% on 100 fps is 115fps.

pure karma
#

were 3 gpu generations in a row of no improvement outside of the 90 class which is wild
