I know there is a ton of factors playing in on noice level ect. such as quality of bearing, fan blade design ect.
but meassuring dB is something I would expect to be somewhat same method across manufactors..
It's not
Also, as I explained:
Noctua fan is louder and moves more air.
If you slow it down so it moves the same amount of air as Thermalright, which one would be louder?
But I do get your point - get a good trusted review channel, that uses the same method/equipment to meassure the noice level, regardless of product
All the stuff you said is meaningless if you have noise normalized data
Noise normalized means "at same dBA, which one moves more air"
Well this is why I said there was a good explanation to why Noctua would be louder..
Never the less, if the lesser speed from ThermalRIGHT is still enough to hold the system cooled - then you should be golden
My f'ed up PC Story - Part 3
So today I used my old mobo/cpu along with a fresh install of windows 8.1 (yes, you read that right) to test both my gfx card. Both are working fine at Gen 3 (mobo limitation) x16.
Contacted my local shop about RMA policy : these guys were fucking clueless about the intel 13th gen debacle. Asked me to bring my PC in. Yeah sure, i'm gonna bring a mid-tower via subway.
i'm allergic to thermaltake after the caselabs lawsuit
Contacted Intel support : after about an hour of chat (descriptions, questions, product info, basic testing), that ended with them "contacting me in 1-2 biz days"? I decided to put my pc back together
charge them for express shipping 😛
haha, I wish, I don't even know if they gonna accept the RMA
Anyway guess what, it's working "fine". I'm literally using it right now to write this.
48 hours ago, it went poof and refused to boot at all, then it limped on, and today it both refused to worked when it literally mattered, and started working fine 30 minutes after that
I have no idea whats going on
the good news is that if it is the cpu, there's a 5 year RMA for it
yeah !
That said, the scientific in me would like to know the root cause of these shenanigans
I mean Internet gremlins or Space Hamsters, but tell me what happened
might also just be windows 8 not playing nice with way newer hardware
ah
my old mobo doesn't all to boot via USB, so I had to use my ODD
have you checked documentation to see if it's able to boot from usb?
yeah, glad I kep that old pile of useful junk
yea, this sounds like a fun one 🤣
like my old mobo was sitting in an open card board, with the cpu and heatsink/rad still mounted
how many of you owuld do that ?
depends on what the hardware is
i split up my old pc and gave my parents a triple upgrade
mom got a new mobo/cpu from me, upgraded gpu from dad's pc, dad got a bigger gpu from me, and then i took their old components and built a new/old living room pc for them
nice !
root root cause is very complicated and NDA'd specifics of the cpu design/manufacturing
but tl;dr: some shit is supposed to run at X frequency with Y voltage, and it just doesn't any more (particularly in certain conditions like hotter temperatures)
it probably still works fine at X*0.9 frequency, at least for a while
these guys were fucking clueless about the intel 13th gen debacle
you'd have to be reaaaally incompetent to be a hardware worker in 2025 and not know about that, it's one of the biggest stories of the last few decades and directly affects the stuff that you are working with or selling/supporting. Probably over a dozen of my news sources have covered it, many in great depth, and i saw it happening firsthand before that (although i couldn't have imagined the scope of the problem, i mostly thought that it was automatic overclocks like XMP causing it at first - but no, it became clear that it was happening everywhere and with cpu's that never ran out of spec)
I don't think I've seen any mainstream news talking about it here (France). Tech sites yeah, but I guess these guys are just here to sell and not to give any advice.
oh yea tech retailers are not necessarily "tech people". they're there to sell you stuff, not know what they're selling 🤣
"AMD Is In the Rear-View Mirror"
- Pat Gelsinger, Intel CEO
"Intel CEO’s Comments of AMD ‘in the Rearview Mirror’ May Indicate Intel is Driving Backwards"
- Areej Syed, Hardwaretimes
Haha
you mean the intel defect?
malloc but voltage
I meant more like why my pc behaved like that working, not working, working a little, not working, working fine
riddle me this
if your charger randomly conects and disconects while your charging why is it doing so?
cause the wire has been damaged by itself
now answer your own question
Mostly just changing conditions - being at a different point on the voltage/frequency curve (some may work while others don't), different temperature, different voltage due to effects like vdroop
with a working cpu, all conditions are stable. As they break, more conditions become unstable (and more severely so)
yeah but temps were hotter today than the last 48 hours and I didn't change anything...
I mean to answer to this
more resistance, difrent power, diffrent voltages, changes in behavior from it trying to adapt how it operates to fix itself and so on
These comments apu aged very well💀
If anything AMD as a company has never been in a stronger position than it is right now, well on the cpu side, obviously gpu side leaves some work, mainly AMD isnt competing on the high end, and gpu for mobile is mostly not existing also
But still overall AMD as whole is certainly offering intel alot of competition and then some
Personally I'm ok with them not competing at the highest end, but I also don't spend that kind of money. Past a point you get rapidly diminished value for every dollar more spent.
Also how big is the market for those super expensive cards...
I know almost the exact breakaway point with some things like microphones, if you are spending more than 400 you have a special need or just money to burn.
100 to 400 is a substantial jump, 400 vs 1200 is.. very little
4X vs 3X isent exactly a big difference but yea
Sure
10x is alway just 10x difference
Be it from 1 cent to 10cents, or 1 million against 100 000 usd
It's all the same 10x
its all about perspective
yea, taxes would disagree with that
100 to 400 in the world of microphones is a big difference, which is the whole point
that is where the real diminished gains start
and you can hardly compare spending 400 to 1200 just saying only 3x
I mean I guess I'm gladd that 8 hundo is no big deal for ya, it is for most folks.
those microphones don't sell as well as they do because they're basically the same...
you know that...right?
If so everyone would ust go spend about 100...
Also unless it's a specialty case you can't compare them in a regular room, neither will sound good. It has to be at least fairly decently treated for sound.
In some cases the better microphone will sound worse becaus eit's picking up more reflections
world of soud is a lot of experience in niche cases
unlike light, that is quick, aka we don't register echoes (or try to communicate much by changing it)
sound is complicated with noticable delay and mostly alldirectional propagation
Yeeepp same here
although i have made a recent development that i like to call “flipped over desk” to reduce eco
Go ask a photographer about the complexity of good lighting, you'd be surprised.
Also: reflections still exist and they're still distracting, they're just instant
I'm a photographer, can confirm
I've been shooting as a hobby and a side gig for multiple years now and am so incredibly far from even understanding it all the way, much less mastering it
Light has all kinds of quirky shit going on
especially when you get to stuff like different wavelengths of light being absorbed differently by different materials, so the percieved color and brightness shift as it passes through materials based on their effect, density and size
e.g. shader i worked on.
^Note the dynamic color shift based on how much water is between the camera and the ground. The water is white at zero depth and dark blue to black with high depths with an exponential falloff of 3 color channels in between, which is quite a simplified implementation. To get photorealism you need to simulate many more wavelengths (there's effectively a near-infinite number IRL) and get stuff like the falloff rate and depth exactly right.
The absorption of each wavelength of light also differs wildly with e.g. multiple blended materials and different characteristics (so e.g. water with silt in it will be very different to clear water).
We literally use measurements of this to identify the chemical constituents of the atmosphere of planets which are light years away, but between us and a measurable light source like their star.
been testing bazzite a smidge and actually exclusively using it for like 3 days now its been working fine this time around
although the 25% performance loss probably from lack of arc support is a bit rough
whats the name of the system monitor?
thx
careful, fedora wants to kill 32bit support, which would kill steam support and bazzite as a whole
why is steam/bazzite 32 bit
The first commercially available 64-bit operating system for personal computers was Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, released in April 2005. This version was specifically designed for processors utilizing the x86-64 (or AMD64) architecture. While there were earlier 64-bit versions of Windows for other architectures like Itanium, XP Professional x64 was the first to gain widespread adoption for mainstream desktop and workstation use. Microsoft later released a 64-bit version of Windows Vista in 2006, which became the standard for newer PCs.
sicne when is steam 32 bit lol
Valve has never updated it to be 64 bit, either on Linux or Windows, yet.
Overlay has 64bit version on Windows.
steam.exe is 32bit, as are many steam games
valve are completely unwilling to drop 32bit support as this would nuke thousands of games people have bought and paid for
when Ubuntu wanted to drop 32bit support, valve said they would drop Ubuntu support, so Ubuntu backed down
fedora would suffer the same fate
lots of games are 32bit that will never be updated again
then why not do both 🤷♂️
tell that to fedora, they don't wanna put the work in to support 32bit
"some things will break but that's not our problem"
fallout new vegas is 32bit
Very cool

Fact checking: Is this new? For the most par...
AFAIK much longer range with directional mics, but that of course has latency issue.
All the various versions that were used from WW1 to WW2 for early warning with human listeners.
Not about the jets specifically
Its a cool technique for image clarity improvement and sharpening as well as motion detection from an array of cameras or images from multiple locations using voxel projection
they are just instant
well that's the thing, it will get created and go away. it won't set up a chain of consequences that lasts for seconds.
Except when you're a photographer and have to constantly adjust the settings and the scene so you don't have these annoying reflections
concept of echo is irrelevant in photography.
in audio it exists thanks to delay.
in visuals, even if you were to communicate through sequence of alternating light & colors, their echo would dissipate quickly, not impacting your ability to recognise pattern
The only reason echo is an issue in audio recording is because it means you're recording stuff you don't want to be recording.
Reason being environmental influences that introduce additional information that's being picked up by the recording device.
Reflections in photography are nothing different.
Also: reflections and diffraction absolutely do impact optical signal transmission

Feels like the Nvidia driver just goes..
FPS = FPS * 2
I hope it’s not a mandatory thing
if it was id be constantly mocking NVIDIA for it
except it doesnt
and its probably more like fps x 1.75
aint no way my headphones just exploded
ok no there fine
its just linux trying to bust my eardrums with static
I've been having this issue for the past like day or two where some games will have this screen flickering effect, either the taskbar flickers if they're fullscreen or the game window flickers if they're windowed. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? I've already tried updating drivers.
this screams too low cpu voltage or gpu failure to me
cause too low cpu voltage on laptops generally results in returnings of parts of previous frames for whatever reasson
like mine does that too sometimes the text bar on discord will freeze on the display side but everything else will keep updating
also i feel bad for doing such aggressive OC with such little air flow 😅
how would i fix that?
on a laptop? either get lucky on the performance presets or dont unfortunately
fuck
but how is dying light 1 straining my laptop less than caves of qud
even in the main menu
i love how the temperature range suposedly for the B580 is -273.1C - 65261.8C
acording to the sensor
I just use it for CPU bound stuff, full 2x there
it actually leapfrogged afmf but i hear their v2.1 is a lot better and similar
Basically: anything GPU bound we can just turn settings down. CPU bound like say Satisfactory or WoW, we can't do that
it's most useful there
Most modern games already have in game FG. Which is just simply better though..
So i don't think its a very useful feature
dosent mean it cant be usefull
The last time i saw SM it was very rough, it looked awefull
It can be, its just not as important as other features
having a playable experience on laptops is a fairly big feature in my opinion
Its not performance, and games where you struggle to get decent performance probably already have built in FG which is just simply better
Most, but not all. WoW doesn't have FG, and benefits enormously from the driver ver.
Well, yes, but WoW really was not on my list of modern games
For old/legacy games it sure is nice
i would not call it legacy, it has huge revenue and regular updates. It's the best of its genre.
ok boomer 💀
Milennials are 29-44
yea but that sounds lame
I'm borderline gen z and was playing that thing 20 years ago.
they pretty much rewrote everything though
It just came out a really long time ago, way before turing even 🤷♂️
its old in the context of games really
and anyone under the age of 30 has defedently nerver played it
It's still a really demanding game, they do more demanding stuff over time even if you can run at 800fps in old content.
It's a dx12 game with reflex
and raytracing 😛
Wait WAT
Calling it old is kind of like calling call of duty old, like yeah, but the version that they released a month ago isn't
then riddle my why the entire game is still in 144P
Since when, and WHY
since 2020, and because it makes graphics better
Do they have like PT or somethin' ?
well thats not that hard to beat
if only CSS used the features UE 5 gave them...
yeah i don't really get why we don't have RT lighting, GI, shadows on Satis. Huge payoff and relatively easy to do with ue5
also the new steam overlay is cool ig
Tbh, even RDNA 2 can run that, but it also isn't very impactfull usually
It is quite impactful for WoW cause it affects how and where shadows are soft vs sharp etc, and lets shadows get cast from 2 kilometers away
i don't use it most of the time though because it affects cpu fps and that's precious for hard content
SF cant do HW RT BC there are too many objects in any given world..
And for shadows, you are better of using VSMs then bothering with RT IMO
just to say anyway, it's not a game that was made 20 years ago and people are still playing it. It has a dev team the size of multiple AAA studios churning out content and engine updates.
but they don't have everything motion vectored (yet) so no dlss or native framegen
Do they have TAA even ?
So AA is post process ?
nah, deferred rendering is the one that breaks the good AA methods to improve scaling with many light sources
forward render can use em, but cant use many dynamic lights
Im not sure you quite understood what i meant : )
If that's the case, i still dont 😄
I was asking weather or not AA was post process (eg: MLAA/FXAA/SMAA/CAA/etc) and maybe MSAA too
it's not post process, it's e.g. MSAA
Basically the reason that SMAA/TAA etc exist is because deferred renderers couldn't use MSAA, which is far superior
MSAA also wrecked performance, no ?
I mean, cuz AFAIK its Kinda like SSAA
GPU bound ?
a little, but like 10% of the performance hit for 70% of the results kinda thing
and yeah
Last time i used MSAA was pretty meh IIRC
though i don't remember that games name
Maybe BL 2 ?
Freon cooled pc? I know it's been tried.. but I don't think anyone has directly cooled the cpu with it, have they?
I saw the gn video with mini waterchiller
I used to talk to a guy who basically did that
subambient cooling is wildly impractical to use on a daily setup though because of issues like condensation
which can be mitigated, but are ultimately a huge pain in the ass 😛
and also you need some really powerful units to be able to sustain low temps while under high heat load, so you end up with something like a 10,000 BTU AC with a huge loud fan strapped to your PC
just put your pc in the ocean at this point
Yeah, it's been done
There are plenty of people that run chillers
Just less and less popular now that total power is higher
I just sorta want to try it.. plus it'll help me learn to braze and solder pipe.
hope you enjoy cleaning insulating paste off motherboards 😄
my goal would be to keep the evaporator at 15-20c though.. so there's no condensation. I just watched the ltt video where they did the same thing.. they stuck a 12k btu unit on a 700 btu heatload..
Maybe it was a 12k btu condenser, I don't actually know what the size of it was.
if you do that, it doesn't perform better than water
it'll probably perform slightly better than water. if I want it to. xD
if I want cold cold.. I'll probably try to build something like this
not sure what refigerant would be good for the secondary on that kind of setup.. I think the biggest issue would be jelling the oil at the metering device and evaporator
it's not for anything practical, water wins for efficiency in almost every case just because it uses less power to run a pump vs a compressor..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaTOHmuN2M0 there's the ltt video.. lol

"arch is peak!"
arch:
oof
That does not look good
are we literally all on linux right now? lol
i am
Fug, Windows 11 24H2 "fixed" a bug/feature where you could have one accent color for new stuff, and another for old stuff with registry editing...
Now it resets that registry setting used by "old" stuff to the Settings Accent color on login...
If I disable "Show accent color on title bars and window borders", old programs will have white title bar.
If I set the general accent color to what I want for those title bars etc,, there is no contrast in several "critical" things like volume indicator etc.
In 23H2 I could just set another color as the general accent color, and then registry edit that older value to nice dark grey.
Ok, found new setting that works like the old one did.
Previously edited Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM\AccentColor and AccentColorInactive
Now need to edit the latter and then Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Accent\AccentColorMenu
I (don't) use arch btw
Darker dark grey for inactive window, tiny bit lighter for active window, and blue for actual accents.
Don't want blue windows...
Blue windows is classic windows
Yeah, but blue title bars on otherwise dark mode Windows is just weird, ugly and distracting.
Works fine with light-mode.
They don’t know what linux even is if we’re being honest
Basically there are several places where this "new" Windows Dark mode just fails to function properly without that registry editing to change some specific colors from default light-mode ones that aren't switched properly.
"Letterdief, why don't you auto update?" - for this exact reason rofl 🤣
I finally updated my secondary computer from 23H2 to 24H2, 9 months late...
Need to do the same for primary computer and laptop at some point.
I don't need update I'm already on the superior OS aka linux
My linux machines update often weekly?
To the level where restart (or lot of restarting of constantly running software) is needed, even on just Debian Stable with minimal packages.
Ok, little less often mostly: 18.05, 25.05, 30.05, 26.06, 27.06, 17.07 for last three months, for one VM, for last three months.
So im trying to make a nuclear fuel rod that lights ip. Would it be possible to connect 16 EL wires in parallel?
Usually it's more like "they know I use Arch"
fuck you
see why i hate arch?
it was an obvious joke, not my fault if you cant spot it
I'm amused by how this car decides to display CD-TEXT data
3d printed nuclear fuel rod. Work in progress.
I taught you were making a actual nuclear fuel rod lmao
Not a replica from the game
Thats still sick tho
Never understood all the yada yada baout Arch
Seems like some people want to install it because they hear it's hard.. even though it really isn't.
Try a stage 1 gentoo install and get back to me on all that
Some of you that like to squeeze every possible bit of performance out of a system would probably enjoy it...
Im going to make the inside light up as well.
and even then unless your on AMD hardware it isent worth it
Eh, debian really is good enough for that
Between Debian and Ubuntu I have everything I've ever needed in a distro
just ate a ding dong, haven't had a ding dong in awhile...
All ads no video ffs
Youtube on mobile is so bad from all the ads
ReVanced my beloved
it's just a python trace man, "too slow" connectivity issue, tldr: mirror didn't respond
That's the error you get when you have shit internet?
kind of, it's more about issues, sometimes its the mirror that are down
sometimes it's curl and certificate roots problems
but my point was : it's all a single error mostly, it just is very verbose
I'm watching a satis YTer that's streaming and some dude just recommended 4GB of RAM for a PC... saying "people are overspending on PC's they put like 32GB of RAM in"
That isn't really enough for even basic Windows 11 computer for just office work or net browsing...
Warframe. "Ultra"
Windows side.
Interesting.
So is windows reporting RAM + VRAM?
No.
After closing firefox.
Then wtf? Ingame: 1.716MB. Windows: 3,735.2MB.
There are multiple things that can be reported as RAM usage.
That's double.
Lot of things like I said:
Task Manager reports allocated RAM, how much of the RAM the program is told it can use.
Warframe itself might report actual usage, how much of the allocated RAM it has actually filled with data
Also: RAM usage goes up the more RAM you have available.
A program might seem like a resource hog when the PC is idle, but it'll step back if the OS restricts allocation due to higher priority on other tasks
Mostly Task Manager reports that "Working set (memory)".
Commit size is the amount of requested allocations, including not used memory.
Oh right, the point I was trying to make; I don't think 4GB cuts it for modern systems 😄
Even with what Fireworker said.
Absolutely doesn't, unless you're like super light in usage
But that Working set includes that "Shared working set", where same library etc. is only loaded once, but used by multiple programs.
Even less so with satisfactory and streaming, lol
idk what that guy was on, but most likely a troll
Don't want to be a dick. But windows clearly says in use;
Which to me isn't the same as allocated = "can be used".
And that ingame number might not include the game exe and the libraries themselves, just what is allocated past that.
And I assume it's just poor wording from OS.
Windows calculates storage capacity in GiB but labels it GB, I'd say it's pretty safe to consider their labeling inaccurate
Also normally when you expand, you get more details.
But for Warframe it goes blank 🤣
That Processes is always somewhat suspect.
And the Details is more accurate.
But that in turn has those multiple different RAM and VRAM usage categories.
By default most aren't shown.
details report same.
Yeah, but in this case, the games own numbers probably only include the "dynamic" RAM usage, and not the base exe, library etc. usages.
maybe yeah.
Example with save loaded in Satisfactory.
Using 4.2G of RAM in actuality, 300MB of that being shared with other programs (using same library that needs to be loaded for even single program).
So shutting the game down would only free 3.9G of RAM.
Game has requested allocation 7G of memory, but hasn't initialized almost 3G of that, so it that isn't actually used.
And is using 3G of VRAM and 30M of RAM as VRAM.
And all the RAM that is just for the game is in actual RAM, not in swap.
Oh, the bot is asleep again. Quickly click link before it get's removed 🙈
Click what?
Ah bot woke up 😦
tl;dr
The USB ports are split between two controllers: one Fresco Logic controller (for most of the 5 Gbps ports), and an ASMedia controller (for the 10Gbps port and one or two of the 5 Gbps ports). In total, CalDigit advertises 15 usable ports across USB, Thunderbolt, DisplayPort, Ethernet, optical audio, analog audio, and an SD card reader. Yes, they count the SD card reader and audio jacks as ports. Regardless, this number is a lie — the total number of usable ports is far fewer — which leads to the first major caveat of this device.
and those docks, like I said aren't cheap. They look professional though, robust.
This is TS5
I just need a reliable hub, the one I have is starting to struggle. When I want to transfer music over it to my iPhone, like 60-100MB worth of songs, it takes about a minute or two over the HUB. If I connect directly into laptop, it takes seconds.
So basically either that ASMedia TB chip is crap, or the specific firmware used is crap.
I don't know. But it's the first time I read something negative of the HUB. I though it was the best we can get for mac.
Can you get a dell thunderbolt dock?
Our schools IT department recommends them for people that have laptops+dock combo as their work machine, works well with macos too
I have used dell in the past and I was really not happy with it.
If I remember correctly, the hub didn't even work with my mac, unless I installed some bloat?
but I don't know which model is was. Was at work.
Also TS4 seems to have same issues kinda?
"Write speed SSD goes down with second monitor connected"
and it's a external powered hub, the fuck...
As expected?
As there is limited total bandwidth on the link?
external powered makes sense too
but they advertise it different? 🤔
I want a external powered one. Because, yeah, it helps and makes sense for a lot of ports.
Basically 40Gbit/s bandwidth, divided between everything, including any DisplayPort streams coexisting on the TB3.
So they make a hub, and don't test that if you connect every port, that you get full speed?
You cannot get full speed on everything at same time.
But it shouldn't make stuff disconnect or bug out.
Wouldn't be the first time
Maybe I need to do a little more investigation. Maybe they mention it somewhere.
But honestly, their website is kinda information overload.
Like with any HUB, limited by the upstream link bandwidth.
But this isn't any hub Baldur.
but this is how all hubs operate
This is dumb.
It is TB4 based HUB with that connectivity.
413 euro's for a dock. That loses speed if you plug in everything.
Not that different from any USB HUB or like, just with better uplink.
But boasting that is has 18 ports. 🙄
welcome to thunderbolt royalty
I rather have it having 10 ports, but give full speed on every port when all plugged in.
than having 18 ports and needing to figure out why you lose speed.
thats called marketing tricks
then you gotta remove shit, to find out culprit.
Difference between being able to use all of them at same time (should work).
And being able to use all at same time at full speed (not going to work).
Think of it like pcie lanes from a cpu, it only has so many and can be split as it needs it
Because the uplink bandwidth just isn't there.
Because TB4 maxes out at 40Gbit/s.
Just getting dynamically split between everything connected.
I understand the technical part now.
PCIe is P2P, so maybe not lanes from the CPU but lanes from chipset, which has a shared uplink to the cpu
I just don't understand that everyone (consumers etc) is alright with this.
- Sold as premium product.
- I haven't found any information on losing speed on the official website. Maybe it's there, but I found this in a review.
- 400 euro!
- it has audio ports, so clearly meant for professionals?
- User has to figure out why they lose speed by plugging and unplugging stuff from dock???
By that ASMedia TB chip.
And that Fresco Logic controller then hangs off that ASMedia chips one output port, dividing it more.
Because that is basic and expected because of the basic tech?
You don't expect you can get 20Gbit/s out of 4-port 5Gbit/s USB HUB either.
Like any single-connection docking solution or hub has ever worked.
It is a premium product limited by the thunderbolt specification
Marketing
Thunderbolt controllers are expensive
My laptop has audio ports, its for professional?
TBF, most users won't run everything at full speed at the same time.
also that
These days, if you have audio port, yes
Thanks 🍎
But you know what I mean, how many docks offer this audio port feature 😉
Most
so they are clearly trying to appeal to a certain audiance.
That's not true.
Hubs don't(aka dongle), docks will(aka use external power)
Never seen any real docking solution (either USB-C or TB) without 3.5mm audio output and mic inputs.
Where dock is just name for fancy hub today.
Old docks connected via much higher pin count connectors where you inserted the whole laptop into a large dock.
ah, explains it
https://a.co/d/1xxtH3T We reccomend these to school employees if they want a laptop+monitor setup
Thanks kade 👍 I look into it.
First question.. Why Asus?
Next question.. Can it run Crysis?
https://videocardz.com/newz/asus-loses-it-500k-rtx-5090-rog-astral-real-gold-edition-showcased
ASUS shows off ROG Astral RTX 5090 with 5kg of pure gold, worth $500K And you thought normal ROG Astral was expensive? We are not sure what is happening at ASUS. Perhaps they are having such a strong year with their ultra-expensive ROG Astral series that they decided to release yet another graphics card based […]
If it can run without software, that would be great.
works with macs ootb
Also TB3 version at least used to be available.
so I don't see why it would need it
just make sure if on windows you have thunderbolt driver installed
It was really weird, at work we also had dell docking stations. Everyone with a macbook had to download some drivers and stuff before it would work.
Windows laptops had no issues. Was mixed work place.
probably old tech with displaylink
did you use 2 monitors with those macbooks
So half a team spend maybe a day getting their laptops to work with the docking station. Great productive day 😄
We used every monitor we could get our hands on 🤣
and were they apple silicon macbooks?
That I don't remember.
if they were apple is was kinda dumb when it came to external displays and M1, M2, M3
M4 seems to be fixed
Intentional limitations in the chips, to simplify stuff, with expectation that "no-one needs more than one external monitor" or something like that IIRC.
Apple assumes a lot.
also probably a bit of cost savings from the chip manufacturing side
Assumes:
- People want thinner and thinner laptops, that was their excuse to get rid of Apple logo with backlight.
- Removed audio port, because it wasn't the future.
- Introduced their own ports because they though we wanted that.
...
Now they add ports back.
Because, hey, surprise surprise, people were not happy.
their own port being lightning?
Yeah.
That had its good points, and was launched before USB-C was a thing.
it feels like apple wants to steer the way of the future themselves. And not let the community steer the future.
Or how do I explain myself. That they have an idea of the future, and that's the future they want, regardless of what the consumer/users of their product want?
But for long time it was just about Apples control and licensing fees.
I think a POE1 developer said once, if we did everything the community asks of us, nobody would play the game anymore.
So, we as developers listen to community, but also have to double check if it makes sense what they ask.
TBF from a hardware perspective lightning was by far better than microusb, and had more rated durability than usbc
But then we got in the predicament EU has to step in no?
"Too many different type of cables. Stop it!"
Lightning was a solution to a problem at the time. Apple just stuck too long to it
because the EU wanted one cable on all devices which makes sense, and I agree with it but apple if they had wanted to could've made lightning faster, and 2 an open standard like qi2 but they got complancant because MFI royalties make bank
@twin dew Another one without audio jack 😉
Usually those are at the front, that is the back.
Ok, so Dell has started to drop them.
That's front and side of HP one.
The dell D6000 has one though.
Just glancing over the most viewed docks on tweakers.net.
But audio ports have been dropped for a few years now. Because apple said bluetooth was the future.
Schiller then offered a three-point "why Apple is removing the audio jack" speech. Here are the tent poles:
The 3.5 mm headphone jack is an analog port. Using Lightning means you can, say, skip to the next track on your iPhone 7 straight from your headphones. It can also charge your headphones. The iPhone is packed full of amazing technology. If you want more stuff in there, you need to free up space, and that analog headphone jack takes up space. Apple believes the future of everything is all wireless, all the time.
And that media control was implemented on analog headphones too with just resistors + buttons, blocking mic while pressed.
really? that I didn't know. my bluetooth JBL earbuds do have control.
Tap left for environment audio, double tap left to go back, tap right to pause, double tap right to skip song I think?
Basically shorting the mic line to ground with resistor value determining the function.
Play/pause, forward, backwards at least, possibly volume control too.
Well, volume control etc. could be done, just not sure if anyone did support it or not.
Even my work laptop is struggling with 8 GB of RAM and asked for an upgrade 2 weeks ago. Hope my request will be approved....
Not to mention MS Teams is the biggest memory hog
Looks like 16 GB is going to become a norm for office work unless there are many company processes in the background which might contribute to memory consumption in my case
4GB = VM with a few services, kiosk client
8GB = minimum for use with user, thin client
16GB = new sweet spot/"office"
32GB = heavy gamers/light work
32GB people who know they need it
I mostly use ms office apps, acrobat reader and dwg viewer at work and even 8 GB is not enough in my case
what os?
Windows 10
Or not, depending on how MS feels today
Company can probably just order another memory stick and install it in my laptop
Oh, and it's Dell
Blame IT for using 90% of RAM. That's what I do at work.
IT department received like 40 laptops recently which had a broken USB-C charging port btw
💀
"fun"
Good news is, the repair cost is not worth it and the "lucky" people with broken charging port will simply get a new laptop
Any ideas to make the charging port break faster?
*asking for a friend
usb-c is a great standard indeed
Mostly just about bad implementation on the MB end.
Having that USB-C port directly on the main MB, so the solder in the surface mount connections cracks over time.
Proposal of USB-Destroyer.
Instead of on small daughterboard with cable to main MB.
Other stupidity is that the parts that wear out first from repeated connections are on the female connector, and not in the cable connector, but that takes lot more to become a problem.
32gb is the sweetspot for anything more than office, 16gb is the budget pick
note that you don't need to require 32GB to justify the expense, just more than 16GB
and let's not forget the limited capabilities of 16GB DDR5 (either single channel or half rank)
Looks like I will have to export cctv recording and visit the police soon. A very suspicious person was walking around my house today and looking at cameras
He first pressed the door bell and asked for a lighter. When I said I don't have any, I saw him pulling out a lighter from his pocket on cctv when I went back into home. That's a huge red flag
And he was staring at the doors for like 3 minutes, he might be a drug addict....
Yep, my dad confirmed he once saw him sitting near the fence and talking to himself. Also noticed he had bloody eyes
certified door moment
With the amount of PCs still running Windows XP.. I got atleast a few decades before W10 is fully EOL :D
Still that many? I looked it up and I though a lot have switched. But might misremember.
source: questionable.
Well of course it depends what you'd consider many..
~5.5 million machines world wide still running Windows XP
Looking at the grant scheme of things, with around 1.4 billion machines, the percentage aint much
Ok, yeah relative.
Data can be beautiful to look at.
You just see in the data how people switched from 10 to 11 😄
iv been on 11 since the start
But there is quiet a few machines, that still relies on running Windows XP, because of special developed software..
And many of these machines could be considered infrastructural critical machines - like Medical facilities still relies on Windows XP..
NASA also has quiet a few running XP..
Keep in mind, the 5.5 million is PCs running with connection to Interwebs, so therefore quiet.. Vulnerable
Also, I am not sure where the data comes from. I think it's based on browser information or something.
Understanding Browser Usage Share Data
StatCounter Global Stats Fact Sheet
Sample sizeWhen compiling statistics, larger sample sizes generally lead to more reliable results. Our stats are based on over 5 billion page views per month recorded across more than 1.5 million websites. We are not aware of any other publicly available data source with a larger sample size.
Browser Usage Stats based on Page ViewsStatCounter measures internet usage trends. We track which browsers are actually used most. To accurately measure browser usage, we base our stats on page views (and not unique visitors). This means we take account of how frequently browsers are used and we also track multi-browser usage by individuals.
So they put trackers into 1.5 million websites?
or 1.5 websites allow the tracker or implemented it. You know what I mean 😄
The big scarry cookies!
Probably google selling data to statcounter 🤣
but I think googles has its hand in the jar of more than 1.5M websites.
If you think Windows XP is outdated, wait till I tell you I have been to a furniture manufacturing company which had some outdated OS from 1983 (forgot it's name)
And the former CEO didn't use internet banking because he doesn't trust technology. He simply collected checks and went to a bank....
It's a miracle they are still alive although they have a "modern" CEO now lol
But you have to admit, they make sturdy furniture made from solid wood. Not that fake wood you see in IKEA nowadays
HOW
skill
Ah, now I remember. They had an ERP system which was based on Novell DOS: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NetWare
NetWare is a discontinued computer network operating system developed by Novell, Inc. It initially used cooperative multitasking to run various services on a personal computer, using the IPX network protocol. The final update release was version 6.5SP8 in May 2009, and it has since been replaced by Open Enterprise Server.
The original NetWare p...
was using a vpn
solved it
Guess one of the thought processed (Which I personally may think is wrong)
Some of these machines running, like XP, have software running that only works on that OS - which has costed the company millions of dollars.
So would assume a lot of these businesses are like..
If it works, don't touch it
They are lucky they have good furniture which saved them despite ancient technology and manufacturing processes
moisture
got arch running
wrong ping
tbh its really nice in the cinnamon enviorment
I also need to add to this conversation - that data is reported based on online devices. The vast majority of XP machines are not going to be connected to the internet, so the statistic is likely significantly under-reported
bought a r7 5700 back in march and i regret it. The halved L3 cache really hurts it btw
For games, yes.
for everything
I said/posted that 😉
It's based on 5 billion page views per month recorded over 1.5 million websites. Or so they claim.
- How did you determine that bottleneck?
- Send PCPP list of your PC
Are you using an LGA1700 contact frame?
Are you running the latest BIOS?
And what do you consider "overheating"?
What games? What settings?
What scenarios?
You said 24GB DDR5 - pretty sure that's single channel.
Definitely an issue
And how the heck can he only have 24GB of RAM if that is legit?
1x24GB?
Only way I can think of, yeah
Choose Your Parts
He also joined Discord exactly week ago, and day later to this server...
And if that 60TB of SSDs is legit, then there is even more insanity and money wasting, if this isn't just a troll.
Alternatively, if it's a prebuild: link the store page
Okay, now you have completed the troll speedrun
You really blew it with that answer, like c'mon
24GB DDR5 and 60TB was odd but excusable
Touching your water-cooled CPU through the water block to burn your fingers, that's just trolling
I told you what I wanted
i hate it when i run my CPU without cooler
and burn my finnger when touching
this thing is spicy
bigass cooler and it wont go below 50c
Damn, this is actually entertaining
Maybe it's better to wait for your brother or take it to repair shop.
Now imagine the old X3D CPUs which had the cache between the die and the IHS.
Easy to cool, impossible to keep cool.
Well, if it was recommended and build by that brother, better to keep it far away from him.
For people to help you in this channel, they need information.
And without proper information, people cannot help you.
Dang, personal attacks now? After all I've done with nothing in response.
Pathetic.
my old 5800x3d was sligtly cooler on idle
to his defense, what you said is almost sureal.
so forgive him for thinking its a trolling atempt (wich it might just be)
You basically don't write as someone who could afford what you say you got.
And the specs are just weird.
That doesn't make you write like under 18 year old.
I'm being rude to you because you're not helping the helpers.
And with the amount of nonsensical info you gave, the only logical conclusion is assuming you're a troll.
Which btw, I wasn't even the first person to do so
Or fail to provide info
Isn't ban evasion also a TOS violation?
So this is the same case who got already banned 3 times for this during last week?
So pure troll.
Depends on the fan curve tbh. Letting it idle a bit warmer so it's more quiet is fine.
Mine ran similar under windows, a bit cooler under linux
i have already accepted it.
it wont die at that temp, so its whatever
and yeah i did change the fan courve so its quiet in idle, thats probably the main reason
Entertainment on throwaway accounts
So the chances that you actually have badly assembled $5000+ computer are just going down all the time...
with 60TB in ssd, thats more like a 10 to 15k pc
So you already completely forgot your start on this channel with that account?
With 4TB NVMe at $200, that's $3k in SSDs
HDD ≠ SSD
3k for the 5090, and who knows how much for the cooling
10k at the very least
What do you expect when you cannot stop lying to try to entertain yourself?
does a 60TB ssd even exist in the first place
Yes, in enterprise markets.
i tought we were only at like 20TB or 24TB
Micron 6550 ION NVMe™ is a 60TB SSD available in both 30.72TB or 61.44TB capacities
sounds expensive
sounds like you didnt know...
That is single 2.5" SSD with NVMe connectivity with 60TB
Or two ruler formats.
PCIe 5.0 4x via U.2 cable.
That Micron one I linked.
Other SSD manufacturers have similar offering.
BM1743 for Samsung also has 61.44TB capacity, but uses QLC.
From last summer news article:
Solidigm's D5-P5336 61.44 TB SSD costs $6,905.
For another.
And any M.2 slot can be converted into U.2 port with simple passive adapter.
Better ones would have PCIe redriver
Yeah, they tried to add me out of the blue a while back.
When they made the account on 15 July 2025. They send friend request.
but seems a moderator cleaned it all up.
Well, the attempt to get his main accounts permaban reversed seems to have ended up in the alt also getting banned and messages removed.
Wonder why ?)
I keep forgetting, that some people find it fun to these kinds of things.
I don't understand it.
Connected alarm system to phone line so I can have two-way communication. Asked ChatGPT what funny things could I say through panel speaker if a burglar breaks into my house 🤣
Second response is best imo. I would be shitting bricks if I broke into a house and suddenly heard some voice telling me dogs are being released lol
So your the cause of the daily 2,5 billion prompts for chatGPT.
I guess you could say that
Actually, I have a better idea than ChatGPT. Since most burglars break into homes at night, I could play some monster sounds
Just a dog barking should be fine.
"Max, get him!"
No, just a dog barking 🤣
Dogs really help here to scare away 90% of the people 😛
Best alarm I ever bought.
"Congrats. You have activated the protocol "Belgian Malinois"
Assuming they know what a maligator is
You mean the breed?
Kinda. It's just overhyped by Americans.
Because they use them in the military, so it must be a good dog for everyone ... right? 🤷♂️
Heard they are like dogs on steroids and never get tired
*well, until they literally collapse from exhaustion
I need to find a dog and train him to use a slingshot on burglars https://www.youtube.com/shorts/7o_UPHEVlk8
Most work dogs are. Just like real huskies.
They are not meant to keep in a tiny house without a garden. Or an appartment.
They need space, preferebly a second husky or more to make a pack. Else you have chance for neurotic behavior.
I still think I want an old german shepherd. Not the modern ones.
Did mods ban?
We think so yes. All messages gone.
Oh, there is 2 messages left on this server from Gestalts. About bio fuel
Banning deletes all of the messages though
default is messages in the last 2 weeks so unless a mod selected all its only the ones from the last 2 weeks
Well then I don't know what happened.
kicked probably
dont care enough ¯_(ツ)_/¯
But this ❗ mark though.
They have like 10 more accounts.
sounds like there was some drama, what happened ?
welp.
If I understood it correctly, they then continued to say they removed the waterblock.
your hands got burned when you touched something thats 60c+ ?
wow
and the plastic thingy come with it. And it had no paste.
And something about the water not moving.
But that's the point my brain kinda turned off. Because I was so confused.
My replies
You tried.
Latter
There was that one person a while back with all the accounts.
I think it might be the same, the next day Gestalts tried adding me as a friend.
But I am not sure about that.
"bro why is my cpu so hot at 50c??? its burning my hand, it must be overheating."
and you most go through hoops to be able to touch your CPU with your hands.
I think that's why Fireworker was like; no.
Nah, a good troll doesn't give himself away this easily
Ragebait works because it enrages people
The true art of trolling almost completely died a long time ago...
Easy mode
why does this keep on happening to my vms
cause your using a inferior operating system
how to spot nazi aprentice:
- they use word "inferior" without understanding complexities of the question
Seems like inferior logic...
I would hire that dog.
Holy shit, Godwin's Law in the third message
Ackshually.. Did you turn it off and on again?
least obvious rage bait
Nooo.. Its IT support :)
Yes, mod banned them and then manually deleted the messages from him on this channel, starting from the newest.
At least the messages went down in succession, not all at same time.
I do know which mod was on the case.
checkit cant just delete them all once a user gets banned?
No idea.
Or there might be different commands and the one used only removed things on this channel?
good chance hes just a shitty little degenerate rage baiter tho
Would assume the messge is deleted, as a bot feature, as its easier for it to iterate them and delete them..
So if mod just rightclick + ban .. You can only select last 7 days messages..
Yes
You can delete all messages or last 7 days, last hours and so on
Discord had an auto feature to remove last messages of user upon ban.. not sure if that is still a thing.
I should read on before replying 😅
LOL
ok, is there any free non-garbage RGB software
i feel like this shit is designed to shorten the lifespan of products
SignalRGB possibly.
Proprietary and requires login.
OpenRGB exists too, but security vulnerability
the difference between armoury crate+iCue running & not is 11 degrees
Two of the worst malwares people ever installed voluntarily
And seems that SignalRGB only provides trial now?
And not actual free version?
ew
Ah, probably no, just misreading the site.
It was SignalRGB Pro Trial.
They don't have proper page telling the difference between free and paid versions.
Ok, that was in the docs.
But still using WinRing0 should rule OpenRGB out, and that leaves SignalRGB as the only RGB control software I know off that isn't manufacturer specific.
If Windows Dynamic Lighting doesn't fulfill the needs.
And for many of the things, using that needs the manufacturer software installed, and configures into Dynamic Lighting mode.
I always turn off all rgb.
Mainboard in bios and current gpu has a switch on the pcb
i generally have it off too
but every once in a while i like to look at the pretty lights
RGB off is a recession indicator
🤣
i mean, now that i know it heats up my system by 11 degrees, having it off is an indicator of "it's hotter than shit here, and every bit of cooling helps"
Signal rgb is what i use and it works fine like 99% of the time
customization is decent
I think it was signal that i used, but it has to be actively running which uses a little bit of CPU (and obv doesn't work when e.g. restarting pc)
armory crate and icue are warcrimes of CPU usage and poll stuttering, since they track way too many sensors way too frequently.
Microsoft. Introduces a tool. To make it easier to switch to 11. Feels a little bit too late 😛
im never gonna use win 11 on my personal pc
its so unbelievable how dogshit it is.
its not happening
every single thing takes a few clicks more than it does on windows 10.
just fuck you too microsoft
That's the biggest thing that is weird and bothersome for me. Accessing the main file manipulation menu, rather than right click, is now under right click > show more; no option to disable that. Same for graphics driver control panel.
To access the audio controls such as which devices are enabled (which i do several times a day) instead of right click left click, you have to do: right click, sound settings, scroll down a bunch, then click "more sound settings" out of a list of options.. which opens the windows 7-10 menu where the controls actually exist.
i switch audio devices maybe 5 to 10 times a day
i lost my mind trying to use win 11
I'm sure there is some kind of workaround to fix it, but microsoft loves uninstalling those for no reason every 3 months
they are just generally being a pain in the ass because of no relevant competition, they're not scared of losing users due to demon ui etc.
there is an app in the microsoft store that offers better audio controll
but this is just one of the issues
you lost me at "app"
EXACTLY
i dont want to use an app for audio
i dont want to reg edit a usable context menu
and all the other random bullshit i dont want either
I've never used the microsoft store and probably never will. They completely fucked up all of the games on there and game pass.. undid some issues now, but others remain. They sandboxed everything which breaks e.g. third party overlays and framerate controls, and hurts performance.
ill either switch to linux for real this time or try my lock with the LTS version of win 10
I understand how you feel.
Looking for ultrawide (49") any recommends? Also Is OLED good enough to not get burn in nowadays or is it still an issue? I haven't really followed that stuff
Burn in has been solved basically.
Are you looking for DUHD or DQHD?
Burn in is still a thing, but far from actually rampant
"Solved" by tracking per pixel usage and compensating, until there is too much.
Solved in the sense that it takes several years to even be noticeable
qhd (5120x1440)
unless there is an argument to go higher
main issue i saw when looking for one was the VRR flicker that can happen with Gsync/freesync
dont think that has been solved yet
since all the expensive oled monitors already come with it, id prefer to use it.
but the flicker is something i cant accept when spending 600$ or more on a display
there shouldnt be major drawbacks like that on such expensive products
It's kinda important yeah. 390hz IPS gsync is smoother than 480hz OLED without gsync, especially at framerates like 300-400. At 500fps they're similar at best because gsync helps as much as +20% refresh.
you CAN overpower it with just raw refresh rate (like 720hz OLEDs supposed to be coming later this year)
Also, even if you do pixel clean at morning and night on the latest Asus OLEDs, they WILL turn themselves off in the middle of the day to force a pixel clean. It's after 8 hours of usage in a day or something. Had it happen to me several times while using mine (before it broke on day 12, gg asus, don't buy those). Also had a team member have it happen mid raid and hold up everyone for 10 minutes.
Pause the game pls I need to pixel clean.
unironically yes
pops up mid pull to cover part of your screen and be like HEY IN 60 SECONDS I'M GONNA TURN OFF YOUR MONITOR FOR 10 MINS options: okay/okay.
I'm not getting asus for sure.
Good luck pushing that for DQHD
390hz gsync is smoother than 480hz non-gsync with a framerate of 240
and that is very achievable especially with framegen and DLSS
path tracing doom is higher than that for example, and satisfactory does 800 fps
far from achievable with HDMI 2.0 or DP 1.4 tho
I'm talking about transfer bandwidth
DP2.1 exists and is on displays this year, and displays without it use DSC.
Yeah, the monitors this year are DP2.1 with uncompressed 10bit 1080p720. So QHD is not too much of a drop from there.
What's the point of OLED if you're gonna DSC anyway?
- We're talking DQHD
- Even DP 2.1 is limited
it has like triple the bandwidth of DP1.4 and is the biggest advantage of the 5000 series cards over 4000.
my philips begins to nag after 4h, but i got to 10+ without it forcing it. haven't hit the 12h mark yet though
nvm, I had dp 2.0 in mind
5120×1440, Dual QHD
But yeah, DQHD 300Hz on DP 2.0 seems doable
297hz at 10bit, or 360 at 8bit
Do GPUs have DP 2.0 by now?
on 2.1 UHBR20
some
Yes, AMD's on their second gen of dp2 but i think both the 5000 series nvidia and the 9000 series AMD have 2.1 UHBR20
Nvidia does for sure
wasn't intel first right out of the gate with arc?
the best of the best DP1.4 does 5120x1440 10bit at 109hz, while DP2.1 does 297hz. Big diff.
I don't remember exactly. Even Battlemage doesn't support full 2.1 like nvidia though, only 13.5 UHBR
which is about 2/3'rds of full bandwidth
ok thats criminal
it shoud at least ask for consent
yeah, ARC with UHBR 10
Battlemage with UHBR 13.5
no UHBR 20 yet
but yeah im waiting a few years for new Oled gens, for the flicker issue to hopefully be less noticeable
Nvidia 50 series can do UHBR 20
AMD 90 series/RDNA4 only UHBR 13.5 too
im waiting for either 50 series super refresh or a potential high end AMD 9000 card
9070 xt isnt that much better than 6950xt
5080 is just garbage
AMD could make a big impact
with some higher TDP card
You know the key to all of this display stuff was unlocked the year I was born... 🙂
The blue LED...
If priced appropriately yeah
they would need to make something 30% faster rendering than a 5090 to launch it at 5090 price with current features and marketshare
if it fals in line with existing 9000 series pricing that should be fine
they're way too expensive IMO
What philips do you have?
I'm currently looking at the Envia 49M2C8900-49.
Maybe I'm worrying too much about burn in idk.
I'm ususally running stuff at low brightness either way so I should be fine?
i think the 9070xt is priced pretty alright all things considered
It's that or Odyssey G9 G93SC.
and when i said some higher end model, i didnt mean that it would need to match or beat the 5090.
just like an 9080xt with more cores, more ram
something to whipe the floor with the 5080
Sometimes being a poor has advantages... like not having to worry about all theose high end cards because who the hell can afford that
5070ti 16GB is £680, 9070 XT is £606. I think it should be £525 given the massive feature disparity
in germany the 5070 ti is 200e more expensive.
and the cards perform almost identical
and the market obviously agrees, because radeon marketshare continues to plummet (and it's obviously not a brand name effect either, because Intel's share is plummeting in favor of AMD on the CPU side).
i have a philips 34m2x8600.
3300h on it so far, no noticable burn in. ~4h use per day, but on a quite dim setting too and with dark mode as far as possible.
i think i noticed flickering maybe twice so far?
656 euro for 9070xt vs 807 for 5070ti
That is close to reasonable. It's paying 23% more for Nvidia, whereas here it's 12% more - which is obviously not.
Does philips still make good stuff... because I have a LCD TV from them... an old 47" 1080p that is decades old now
still sitting in my living room...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rnc7uHs1tnw
there is a slight disadvantage in RT, thats about it.
As long as you do gaming and not need Cuda for a professional use case, the cards perform almost the same

i dont think thats reasonable at all.
the 5070 ti is massively overpriced
Keep expecting it to die.. but it never does it just keeps on doing it's thing
Nah they don't really. FSR4 is in beta and is about the quality of DLSS3, while meanwhile DLSS4 is released in games.
Antilag 2.0 supports about 10 games, while Reflex over 200.
Thanks 😄
i thnk the people that give a shit about these features are less than 1% of buyers
i cant tell the difference between fsr4 and dlss anymore.
both current versions look good
i am happy with my 9070 xt. i try to avoid FSR as far as possible, but the one time i had to use it (MHWilds) it run quite well. and FSR4 was quite usable as well
if that were the case, they would jump on a card like the 9070xt being 10% cheaper.
Many people like HWUB have ran polls showing that a large majority of their viewers (which are just a subset of PC gaming as a whole, but a significant and important one) both overwhelmingly use and heavily judge upscaling quality in their hardware purchases.
no they just buy the brand name.
or get it in prebuilds
I have old man eyes so a lot of the subtle shit that bugs the hell out of some people just goes totally or mostly unotticed by me lol
As far as input lag... I... don't notice any so
Reflex (anti lag 2.0) is a basic and extremely important feature.
An independant reviewer discovered a major flaw in the graphics pipeline in 2017 and disclosed it AMD, Nvidia and the public.
2 years later Nvidia released Reflex and it's in 200 games, heavily focused on the ones where it is needed most. 7 years later, Radeon released antilag 2 and now it's in 10 games.
as far as im concerned FSR4 and DLLS4 are equal
Satisfactory doesn't support FSR4 because FSR wasn't upgradeable until extremely recently.
In this game you either play DLSS4 with reflex, or you play FSR2.1 without reflex (antilag2).
yep same here
this is true in most games.
reflex to me until i learned what it even was, was just another performance waster
Like I seriously see all the yada yada over this stuff and just shrug lol
And I don't even have FSR4 lol
Reflexes entire reason for being is to improve performance, it doesn't cost anything
afaik refelx and antilag needed to be included by the devs?
so prio on the one more users have makes sense, even if it puts a bad light o the competitor
Yes, but with 90% of users being Nvidia and with Antilag 2 being far newer (because radeon failed to make it until 5 years later than Nvidia), that landscape is overwhelmingly only implemented for nvidia users
Also the price isnt realy a fair marker for the value.
nvidia just procuces less cards when people are buying less to keep the price as high as they want.
they have done this for years
Radeon are free to sell more cards. They do the same. Every time Nvidia raises prices, they match it and they keep production at extremely low levels (rx9000 production is ~1/10'th of RTX 5000 series).
also amd always published a driver level alternative, so i guess its more adopted ^^
there is no driver level alternative for reflex / antilag2
it requires game integration
theres a reasson why prices havent gone down and its exactly that
discovered 2017:
public SDK for nvidia: 2019
public SDK for radeon: 2024
Can you blame Coffee Stain for not implementing 2024-2025 Radeon stuff into their 2024 release of Satisfactory, while they put 2019-2020 Nvidia tech in?
my pc is actually more expensive to build now than it was 2 years ago
even after the intel drama and 50 series launch
also.
if the 50 series realy did that well, nvidia wouldnt be doing a super frefresh
they would just sell the same thing till next gen
antilag 1 is, antilag 2 is per game (for now)
It's selling out. They're doing super refresh because they wanted to launch it with 3GB memory chips but they cut into profit margins too much at the time that they wanted to launch
I'm waiting on the 5090Ti Super Titan
its selling out because they produce like 4 cards a month
antilag 1 is a completely different and irrelevant technology because it doesn't work and often causes harm
sure i'll have to take out a 2nd mortage but whatever!
Wonder what my bank would say if I told them I wanted a loan for a 3000 dollar video card for my computer...
They produce 10x more cards than Radeon does, whatever the amount. Yes they cut production. No, nobody is taking market share or price leadership because of it.
there too busy reducing production instead of fixing it
and nvida even got caught pretty much making provably wrong and misleading statements about the 50 series launch performance
Nvidia doesn't care about gamers
well thats nothing new... thats every company
Now bow down to your new AI overlords
AMD often is incompetent, nvidia is malicious
and it doesnt look like nvidia is gaining on AMD
the share has remained the exact same over the last year
intel is already at 8% ? nice
mostly iGPUs though
thats probably a bunch intel IGPUs
Those silly people using other
that 1 pixel
Pretty much sums up most industries today, and their pricing strategy
5% performance increase just is not worth the price increase.
idk about antilag, but you are the first person i ever heard even talk about using it, so i doubt much people actually care.
idk about you, but you couldnt pay me to spot the difference between FSR4 and DLSS4 upscaling
Meh can't link the gif from Margin - where the CEO states We are selling to willing buyers, at current fair market price
the average price for the cheapest 4 9070 xts is 655e, for the 4 5070 tis its 810e
idk, if you are looking for good value, buying nvidia just looks silly.
is the nvidia driver stable again? 🤣
This is somehow a messurement system I can understand :)
if thats an older graph, that doesnt even factor in the nice performance increase AMD managed to get with dreiver updates
i think the card is now around 8 to 10% faster on average
Correct, should probably add which driver version the test was done under
But then again - would a regular buyer, even a tech person - know what impact the driver has for a GPU?
no, but drivers either prompt you to update or are auto updated
on problems? sure. on performance? a bit
Well we don't really care for NVidia's new Vibe Coding Driver Team :D
or microsofts
-# at home at least, at work i have to
the 50 years Microsoft experience in managing to fail to make an office app which does not frick out when you drag text
that's the professional level we are talking
50 years Microsoft experience, we should have learned that - Computer doesn't do what we tell it to..
In Linux if you do sudo rm -rf /* it will just do that, without asking questions..
Yeah, Linux will do that without asking questions.
Meanwhile also Linux: #off-topic-tech message
Linux version of... Blue screen of Death :D
That's the installer not the os :))
Linux version is just kernel panic
I wanted to say, you can't just say Linux. Specify distro. But for the sake of conversation I didn't want to nitpick.
And then you walk in Diluted 🤣

Kernel panic with stacktrace?
Well it still pukes a wall of text all over the terminal...
At least for those who can read, can see what happens..
Windows just say yeah.. Something fucked up, we give you this number - which can mean about 2000 different things.. But you have this number now okay.. Google it or something we dont care
If you get number.
new screen will look like this:
Yeah depends what time of the month Windows is in its cycle :D
Daring of you to be on insiders.
Nah, duckduckgo 😉

but I read it in an article they changed the blue screen.
Btw, I used to say; "Nah, I googled that."
What do I say now? I duckduckgoed it?
It's blue for normal
green for insiders
orange for something third (don't remember anymore)
Looked it up?
If you call a support person, give them this code
-# STOP CODE: MANUALLY_INITIATED_CRASH
And support person be like..
Yeah lemme google that for you
Like .. Windows why???
How do I start looking this up?
The QR code goes to MSDN iirc.
What is the verb for duckduckgoing?
ducking?
wait
idk
I'm just making things up
So if DuckDuckGo searching is Ducking..
Whats the equal terms for Firefox? :D
Burning.
Thanks ...
Someone got a more sensible mine than mine for sure :D
Unless you can figure out soemthing better
Firefox isn't a search engine?
But it has a Search bar :D
I edged this answer :D
oh no.
DuckFoo'ed it :)
I'm gonna duck that one.
It's crazy how dominant google is that it's a verb!
I only use DuckDuckGo because of the nice Flame button..
Sometimes I just click it for the animation really
Even teachers would say; "Kids, google y or google x..."
That's pretty new, the flame button. I use duckduckgo for privacy as a search engine for a few years now.
Does it burn?
Was actually an empoyee of Novo Nordisk (The small danish medical company, making Wegovy and shit) that showed me DuckDuckGo - it was default browser for empoyees :D
Or you get flamed?
I must say, I am pleased with Apple for one thing. When I started the iPhone for the first time, during the setup, it asked me for the browser. And duckduckgo was one of them. So that's a good change imo.
Shows a nice little burn animation across the browser, and clears your history, cache ect.
And yeah, the flame button on my iPhone. I turned it on by default.
When I close the browser, it nukes everything.
I don't need my iPhone to keep any data anyway.
I'm too lazy clearing cache, can't be arsed to log in everytime even with a password manager :)))))
That's the thing, I don't login on my iPhone 😛
I should... but I don't.
fair case then!
The fact reply ping is still not an option...
I don't know why. I just never do it. Partly for privacy reasons. And security.
And I have a laptop anyway, which is also mobile.
DuckDuckGo is overwritten my Safari browser on my iPhone..
Simply because Apple started to advertise that they take my privacy serious..
And I was like... Yeah... No you dont
I don't know.. Its just something in my guts saying that I shouldn't trust Apple when they say they take their users privacy seriously..
Mostly because I associate them with another entity like Facebook(Meta) and Google
Whom lives on our data
Oh, I agree. Still a US company.
Just searched it.. Argh.. I googled it :D - so Apple apparently partnered with cloudflare to help mask your traffic apparently.
So its 2 relay system..
Apple knows your IP, but doesn't know your content.. (allegedly)
Cloudflare knows your content, but not your IP..
Not sure I trust that.
Hence why I added the (allegedly) :D
Never trust big corpos
maaannn
ITS SO GOOD to not have windows on a shitty SSD
currently transferring like 110GB to this driver and it doesnt even sweat
on my previous drive if i so much as opened firefox id get 100% usage lol
Not sure why I thought about this video in regards to the "Shitty SSD".. Back then when SSD was still somewhat new... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96dWOEa4Djs
We took 24 256GB Samsung MLC SSD's and put them in RAID to make this awesome computer! See how we did it, and what the results were!
For more information on these drives, check out http://www.samsungssd.com
thats cool
so.. ive finnally gotten my RX 9060 XT 16GB
the most amazing thing is office actually starting so fast xD
