we could power it with solar anywhere, our grid is national except for texas

charred relic

So looking at this I guess no really compelling reason to upgrade unless I'm getting a 9070 XT or better...

languid gulch
#

unless you really need more than 12gb vram

charred relic
#

Nothing in my budget to upgrade to

#

yeah I'm only doing 1440 ultrawide

languid gulch
#

true, but we can also put solar in our north without problems

pure karma
#

honestly no good upgrade path for really anything at anythign other that budget range

charred relic
#

Wondering if I'd actually see much benefit from an X3D CPU

pure karma
#

the market has been too slow and mid for too long

charred relic
#

my guess is for me it would functionally be nothing i'd notice relaly

#

Wanna make sure I don't have an upgrade path somewhere within a reasonable budget before I blow my load on something else lol

#

Like a used rack server...

languid gulch
#

our north is still south of most of Germany, so doing solar anywhere here really isn't a geography problem

feral drift
#

As far as Ive understood, X3D comes into play when youre playing in higher resolutions..

I’m considering X3D cuz i enjoy PCVR games, and theye rendering in some 4k ish resolution

languid gulch
#

high resolution & iirc frame rate

feral drift
#

I dont think youll see much difference on X3D playing FullHD.. But could be wrong

pure karma
#

more cpu = more cpu not magically more frames

languid gulch
#

oh definitely, but that's a political & logistics issue

#

we really should have built/rebuilt passenger rail the way Japan did. high off the ground, no intersecting with roads, full electric. from day 1

feral drift
# pure karma its the oposite tho?...

Again its a bit fuzzy area for me.. But afaik, the X3D is better for certain games, as the cache is is larger.. I assumed it was for handling stuff like texture files better

pure karma
#

thats the vrams job

charred relic
#

I'm already hitting decent FPS in stuff I play... at more than acceptable quality settings

#

I mean I could flip my old CPU so it's not like an upgrade would be full cost or anything but still

#

have to deal with the hassle of the flip and etc

pure karma
#

nothing i love more than launching a game and seeing like 12,000FPS

charred relic
#

ouch 460 for the 9800X3D

#

minus what i got for my 9700x on the used market

#

not worht it lol

pure karma
#

the motherboard hurts more

#

the fact that motherboards are more expensive on average than the top of the line cpu's for them is insane

feral drift
# pure karma thats the vrams job

True..

The Cache on X3D CPU is helping with stuff like Game logic, AI, physics calculation.

Which frees up a lot of RAM proccesing..

At least thats what i got out of the article about X3D :)

charred relic
#

Apparently AI decided I had one

pure karma
charred relic
#

I'm sure I'd see some level of benefit in higher FPS and perhaps other tasks but for me right now there isn't enough juice for the squeeze between the cost, the flip, actually swapping the part out

#

Guess I'm set on gaming rig for awhile...

pure karma
#

wait what the 9800X3D has so much less cache than i tought what

#

my 13700K has more cache than it

#

only L3 is bigger

charred relic
#

Well actually

#

Eyeballing that lol

#

Pretty sure that classifies as PC gaming related lol

feral drift
#

Quote from reddit.

Larger v cache on the physical cpu. A larger cache means more local data is stored on the cpu and this means it isn’t relying on the memory (RAM) to supply that information to your cpu. This typically translates to more frames and faster frame times.

pure karma
#

so X3D is just puting the L3 cache on crack

#

i tought it was all 3 but no

#

so i have better cache than a 9800X3D (kinda)

feral drift
#

Guess it would be the 64MB 3D V-Cache that makes the X3D excel on gaming

pure karma
#

yep although i wonder why

#

youd think the l1 and l2 would matter but clearly not for gaming

charred relic
#

It also has a lot of the L3

feral drift
#

L1 is for rapid small instructions, dedicated to individual cores.

L2 is slower and larger, dedicated for a cluster of cores.

L3 is slowest but largest, shared amongst all Cores

pure karma
#

still makes no sense since gaming would be L1

#

i think whats likely going on is L1 is just so small L3 is doing all the work instead

feral drift
#

I guess the shared L3 on all cores is most beneficial

charred relic
#

probably the shared bit

#

That and the types of instructions the v-cache is desgiend for isn't suitable for small sizes

#

either way... it works

pure karma
#

on another similar topic i still have no idea what ram being cached is in reference to

#

like why is like 99% of my ram being used cached

charred relic
#

RAM is never left empty

#

It'll cache data until it runs out of cache space then start overwriting

#

unless it doesn't have enough to fill it

pure karma
#

so this is like 10+10*10^10 levels deep

charred relic
#

There's used... then there is used when it comes to memory lol

pure karma
#

your data goes from your storage to your ram

#

from the ram to the ram cache

#

from the ram cache to the vram and cpu cache

#

to the various cache levels

#

and then disapears into heat once its used

charred relic
#

Eventually that bar will fill it, but it'll mostly be yellow

#

just old cached data in case it gets called on lol

pure karma
#

locked at 90% usage all the time baybeeee

#

now its at like 170% lol

charred relic
#

And sometimes despite having plenty of free ram at all times during current boot... the machine will dip into swap

#

i read something about that once... there are certain things that just do that

pure karma
#

if i launch anything else intensive whiel satisfactory is runnign my vram usage goes through the roof for no reasson

charred relic
#

if that machine is disk swapping something is not right... it barely has any swap anyhow

pure karma
#

thats the origin of those like 17/12GB screenshots i sent forever ago

charred relic
#

I'm comitted to 1440p for sure

pure karma
#

also after using the B580 for a while i have no idea why it even has 12Gb of vram lol

charred relic
#

3440x1440 specifically now

pure karma
#

iv nerver seen it past like 4.5GB used even at 1440P

charred relic
#

This reminds me I gotta look up some Quadro cards... a couple of the servers I looked at had quadros

#

i don't care about them outside of video encode/decode

#

I won't even have a monitor plugged intot hat machine so...

#

streaming re-encoding

#

for the times native format won't play for whatever reason, typically stuff can just stream natively for me

pure karma
#

not to mention gaming cards cant reach anything past like 70% encoder/decoder usage

#

im tired of my 1440P recordigns being at like 2fps

charred relic
#

i just wanna offload that task onto a card if possible

pure karma
#

bycause my $1200 gpu cant do basic fucking encoding

charred relic
#

or as much of it as i can anyhow

thin trout
# pure karma my 13700K has more cache than it

One core of a 13700k can access 2+30MB of L3 cache, the rest is inaccessible and from gaming POV that mostly makes it useless

One core of any of the x3d CPU's can access 96.5 MB+ of cache.

charred relic
#

I keep shopping used servers then I blow my money on something like a flight yoke πŸ˜„

pure karma
#

do you even need a server lol

charred relic
#

Kinda yeah

#

NEED... no, strongly want yes

pure karma
#

This is a real mans server

#

The nearest table

charred relic
#

2GB RAID controller, 8x1TB drives already installed

#

E5-2690 v3 is a bit old but suitable for my needs

#

Oh and it's got two of them... and 256GB RAM... so overkill on RAM I don't need that much

#

I kinda like that but I want another bay set up for droves but empty

#

The good thing about shopping for this type of stuff is there are tons of different configurations, I want heavier on drive and drive bays and lighter on RAM.

pure karma
charred relic
#

Yes because I want to lose all of my data when it fails

pure karma
#

its like... a lot easier

#

#

Part of this things function will be as a backup system

#

I'll even have hot spares

#

charred relic
#

The SSD's I have are smol

#

a 500 and a 250, why they aren't even provisioned... nothing to put on them anyhow

#

actually one has kubuntu on it right now because I wanted to test drive KDE since I haven't in decades

#

But yeah... they just sit there and sometimes I dual boot onto one.. the other... both...

#

I spent years with 0 windows systems in my house in the early to mid 2000's lol

#

it was all linux or BSD

#

distrubuted compiling was great when you had a bunch of machines sitting around

#

Way way after than doing it on the one machine (I was running Gentoo at the time, from source)

#

wonder if distcc is still a thing...

#

Yep... still around lol

#

well i take that back the last release was 2021 but still it likely works

#

And this... is why I am oh so tired πŸ˜‰

pure karma
#

im tired because its 1am

#

but i dont want to sleep because its too hot

#

and now its hot in my room too and im just tired and hot

Corrupted vram, something stealing vram from game, e.g streaming software or other graphics intensive task (like a local running ai model, or e.g crypto miner) or your graphics card have little vram so textures break, because it cant keep all of them in memory. Im guessing another process taking the vram and therefore overwriting the textures in game. (Its the most plausible cause)

Also, If someone actually stole the package, I would have problems later trying to prove to Amazon I never received the package

Not particle radiation like electron beam.

night girder

can I be captain strawman?

twin dew
#

The funnel and the neck are made of leaded potash-soda glass or lead silicate glass[6] formulation to shield against x-rays generated by high voltage electrons as they decelerate after striking a target, such as the phosphor screen or shadow mask of a color CRT.
So the x-ray part is result of the electron beam doing work.
So if the electron beam wasn't doing work, no x-rays either.

#

As x-rays are light-waves in very high microwave range, not particle radiation.

#

that electron beam is basically beta radiation.

#

If the energy was high enough.

#

Not going to try to find the amount of x-rays a tube at use generates compared to general radiactivity exposure from just being in normal Finnish home, or to eating a single banana.

#

One study using CRT monitors concluded that because of the low dose rate, accurate dosimetry was difficult. It estimated the effective dose (ED) to an operator working in front of a monitor was 454 ΞΌSv yearly.
That's less than one percent of the dose limit.
For 8-12 hours a day, for 5 days a week, for year.

I mean FFS you choose meals from a menu there heh

#

And the main campus site is awesome, lots of litttle outdoor areas with fountains and statues. Lots of art inside.

#

Also one of the the top transplant hospitals in the world.... πŸ˜„

#

Not just Emory but that site specifically

#

I hate the local hospital in this city.

#

Absolutely terrible... and does not have a great approval rating all around with the locals

twin dew
#

But yes, seems that medical etc. use x-rays at least used to be generated by much higher energy electron beams hitting stuff to generate x-rays.

#

And seems that most monochrome CRTs don't generate any x-rays, as there is minimum energy limit.

charred relic
#

I've been bleeding in my stomach and packed a bag and gone the hour drive to Emory rather than go here heh

#

I did that... a bunch of times

#

But... I also knew I was going to end up staying for at least a few days and I did not not not want to do that here

#

i drove myself πŸ˜„

#

no need for an ambulance... no immediate emergency

#

I mean that situation was an "emergency" but I had time, it wasn't going to kill me quickly at all lol

#

Plus I knew once I got there it would be at least a couple of hours before anybody even looks into anything... unless im falling out

#

As soon as they find out in the ER that it's liver disease related vertices it becomes kinda routine

#

err verices

#

Those are all gone now fortunately... after I dunno how many ER trips and 3-4 day stays

#

I'd walk in with a be like "blood in stool, likely liver related"

#

They gotta check but they know pretty much right there what's up

#

The bright side is I get out of jury duty now...

#

I don't mind it other than they need to get with the times with how they deal with all of it.

#

in 2025 you shouldn't need to show up just to sit around all day

#

during ccovid you had to mail int he form then if you were needed they'd call you... like guys that's how it should have always worked

#

I'd not be selected based on one thing

#

I could say two words that almost guarantees I don't end up on a jury.

#

There are also certain offenses I would refuse to give a guilty verdict on anyhow.

#

Even if they caught them red handed... because I disagree with the law itself.

#

But if you are heard saying the words "jury nullification" you likely won't be selected heh

#

yeah sorry not sending some dude to a cage because they had a little weed

#

If it's something dangerous then we can talk...

#

Plus... where is the victim of the crime.

#

Not real big on sending people to a cage... if there wasn't a victim

#

What's lame is that a lot of judges will get pissed about that jurry nullification stance but uhhh that's the point of a trial of your peers

#

if they were meant to judge based solely on the law and no morals then the jury would be lawyers and judges, not regular people who don't know the law like that

#

As a juror you are allowed to vote based on your own conscious, it's part of the law. Despite that people have gotten into sticky situations with judges over it.

#

Ultimatelt a judge can't do shit to compell you to behave differently so it's just a hassle

#

REally jurors should be informed of all of this... it should me required

#

because a lot of people have NO idea they don't have to go soley on the law

#

Yes that's what has gotten people into hot water lol

#

Like handing out fliers in front of the courthouse lol

#

So not only do they NOT tell jurors all this they are against them even knowing. Which is bad.

#

Every country is dipshits

#

if you really want to get down to brass tacks, you can find a reason to complain about everyone

twin dew
#

AFAIK mentioning you know about jury nullification during the pre-selection interview stage is quick way to get out of jury duty.

charred relic
#

It is

#

Either the defense or the prosectution will have a problem with it and unless they have run out of selections they will slip ya

#

And I also can't really NOT disclose that

#

Not would I want to... they will allll know what they'll get with me heh

#

Last time I went they were selecting for a case with some dude that got caught with like 12 pounds of meth

#

I'm like man I bet he's working to flip on his source so hard right now

#

Now that person, yeah they needed some away time if they were guilty

#

mmm sour bites crawlers

#

weird candy packaging... says not safe for kids πŸ˜„

#

I'll tell ya what wasn't safe for kids... growing up in the 70's and 80's...

#

Sometimes I look back and think "were we like... trying to die?"

#

My mom, and this goes back to x-rays, remembers when they had those machines in stores for sizing your feet for shoes. It was an x-ray machine

#

and people were just marching in there sticking their feet in there like it was no big deal because nobody knew lol

#

Moral of the story is we might be lucky we're not all running around with feet growing out of our feet...

languid gulch
#

the one in Armageddon was fun, with artificial gravity capability

#

at least without a replacement

#

i could deal with it if we had a bigger or more internationally cooperative one

#

i do kinda like Neil DeGrasse Tyson's interpretation of it, comparing it to New World exploration

#

governments had to spend the resources first because individuals and companies aren't about to invest in something so uncertain

#

eh, we have the resources to do both

#

oh definitely

night girder
#

πŸ™„

#

Man, people these days.

#

Just love to shit on anyone.

#

Even Gandhi couldn't do any good in these days. Or freaking Jesus.

#

What did Neill Degrasse did so wrong, that he wouldn't be a great scientist and human?

languid gulch
#

i might be a bad american because i completely agree with his assessment of pluto

#

lol

charred relic
#

My main problem with him is he used to be humble, all the attention went to his head and it only got worse over the years.

languid gulch
#

yea i saw that one

night girder
charred relic
#

Carl Sagan... he is not

languid gulch
#

i find it insane that with all the discoveries and really good science, collaboration, and how obsessive everyone is about definitions, that nobody had defined "planet" in over 2000 years

charred relic
#

Either way he gets science in front of people who otherwise might have not been exposed to it so...

languid gulch
charred relic
#

For what good it does. I saw somebody yesterdy that thinks outside the atmosphere = zero gravity

charred relic
#

I'm like no... stop ISS in place and it falls right back down tot he planet lol

night girder
#

I see a clear definition of a planet.

languid gulch
charred relic
#

I have the RIP pluto shirt lol

#

So they better not reclassify it...

#

Or they owe me a damn shirt!

languid gulch
#

The definition of the term planet has changed several times since the word was coined by the ancient Greeks. Greek astronomers employed the term ἀστέρΡς πλανῆται (asteres planetai), 'wandering stars', for star-like objects which apparently moved over the sky. Over the millennia, the term has included a variety of different celes...

night girder
#

When the ancient Greeks came up with their definition of planets, they counted Earth's Moon, and Sun as planets along with Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. Interestingly, Earth was not considered a planet, but rather was thought to be the central object around which all the other celestial objects orbited.

#

so there was a definition.

charred relic
#

Oh well I know people who don't think we've never been to space and are in fact trapped inside of a dome

night girder
#

just not a good one πŸ˜›

languid gulch
#

i mean, it worked for the time

charred relic
#

but they also think that not only are there aliens but they have been ON the planet so... like... how did you decuce they have no dome?

languid gulch
#

until it didn't

charred relic
#

How they they pass ours which, according to you, cannot be penetrated.

night girder
#

yeah, the ancient greeks didn't do space travel

#

and had other stuff to wrry about

languid gulch
#

or look with instruments

charred relic
#

Like man... not only are you scienece ignorant you arne't even making fucking sense

#

Or the ISS is fake... I mean you can only go see it with your own eyes with some pretty inexpensive optics

languid gulch
#

here's my extra controversial take on terms: i find cosmonaut to be a better term, even though i don't use it as often as astronaut

charred relic
#

And boy with recreational space travel right around the corner for the common man probably... the flat earth crowd has a problem

languid gulch
charred relic
#

lol

#

I mean I shouldn't laugh at that but... man i can't help it

languid gulch
charred relic
#

If I recall his rocket wouldn't have even been capable of getting high enough anyhow

languid gulch
charred relic
#

To say he wasn't a smart man... would be generous

night girder
#

seems more like a US thing.

charred relic
#

They are all over... I'm convinced a lot of them are just trolls though

#

I find it hard to believe there are THAT many flat brains

languid gulch
#

trolls that found stupid people to send them money

charred relic
#

Probably is money involved somewhere

#

usually is

languid gulch
#

yup

charred relic
#

The Flat Earth Society. We have members all around the globe!

languid gulch
#

dumbasses who claimed to believe something to rip off others who actually believe it, and then they grow dependent on that revenue stream. can't back out of it without recanting everything, losing the money, and maybe getting killed by true believers

#

societies like that always eat their own

charred relic
#

I'm pretty sure intersellar aliens view us like locals view that meth'd up trailer park across town

#

we'll drive 5 mils out of our way to avoid it... lol

#

They're like "nope any day now they're going to blow that whole place up with antimatter, just stay away"

#

Man them looking at us would have to be a lot like us looking at something like a chimp or monkey heh

night girder
charred relic
#

Kinda cute... dumb as a rock...sometimes dangerous

night girder
#

Same for the "I am not driving my car, I am traveling" lol

languid gulch
#

it's cute and generally harmless until either money or crazy people get involved

charred relic
#

oh god

#

they always quote the articles of confederation

#

one little problem with that... it was replaced with this thing called the US Constitution...

#

In there yapping about maritime law and the judge just just rolling their eyes

#

I'll tell ya where you're about to travel pal, jail, that's where

languid gulch
night girder
charred relic
#

They really do

#

They think they are in there playing 4D chess with the judge...

night girder
#

It never works though. Neither cops or judges take private citizens serious

charred relic
#

well it's just that in that case they are quoting things that aren't relevant and haven't been for a very very long time...almost since forever as far as the country goes

#

Funny thing is even if they had a legit angle they wouldn';t know... heh

#

too busy chasing the BS one

languid gulch
night girder
#

Yeah.

charred relic
#

As soon as somebody tries to lean on the articles of confederation they shouldn't be taken seriously... tbh

languid gulch
#

reminds me of the americans to go to north korea or russia and are SHOCKED when they're detained for being american

night girder
languid gulch
#

yup

night girder
#

What can go wrong 🀣

charred relic
#

Russia I'd visit... no interest in North Korea

languid gulch
#

0 interest in either

charred relic
#

Honestly I wouldn't even feel safe there

#

Unless it was a publicised thing where evvvvverybody knows where he's at if he goes missing lol

languid gulch
#

oh you'd be an even better target then

charred relic
#

They'll use it for PR like they did Rodman

#

that is not a smart man...heh

languid gulch
#

or detain you for being a WNBA player

night girder
#

From a cultural standpoint, I am interested in all cultures and countries. But if those countries see my as hostile, why would I set foot in there.

charred relic
#

Well Russia will... if you have contraband lol

languid gulch
#

yea when a big part of the culture is "kill your people"....yea, not interested

charred relic
#

And they'll you know... enforce their laws

night girder
languid gulch
#

yup

charred relic
#

I wish bone headed content creators would stop going to countries acting like fools...

#

Of course in some of those cases... it's working out very badly for them heh

languid gulch
#

nah, let 'em go. it gets them out of our hair for a while

night girder
#

Darwin is still right.

charred relic
#

I kept saying that during tide pods

#

stop warning them, let nature run it's course...

#

In fact remind them of all the pink cotton candy likely in their attic...

#

Sorry but if you're past a certain age and dumb enough to eat a tide pod you deserve what's coming...

languid gulch
#

yea, i can't tell if i've become a bad person for occasionally thinking like that

charred relic
#

Well the thing is those types... something is gonna get them

#

you can't always save them from themselves...

languid gulch
#

i've definitely moved into the "idc if you kill yourself doing something stupid, just don't take anyone else with you"

night girder
#

play stupid games, win stupid prizes

charred relic
#

I've become rather jaded over the years

night girder
#

it's out of our control what 8.2 billion people around the world do.

charred relic
#

Kijnda like you... do whatever you want just dont' screw anybody else up in the process

#

you wanna go screw yourself up, have at it...

night girder
#

But what about tragic accidents like Ocean Gate ... I feel bad for the people who paid for the trip and died. But I feel angery when I hear what choices were made by some people who worked at oceangate. Causing the incident.

charred relic
#

I've done a lot of questionable things but I gotta say compared to a lot of what I see I was tame.

languid gulch
charred relic
#

I was just good at never getting caught... heh

languid gulch
#

again, feel free to get yourself killed, but don't kill anyone else along the way

night girder
languid gulch
#

oh i agree

#

0 blame to the kid

night girder
#

And when I first heard about oceangate, my first thought was; "That sounds like a very dumb idea".

charred relic
#

I wouldn't wanna go down in that thing, wouldn't have lol

languid gulch
#

the parent who should have known better, especially as one of the billionaire overlords that always espouse total superiority, and the CEO clearly catering to that crowd while having clear indications beforehand that it was a death trap

charred relic
#

Submarines are scary anyhow, ever been on one?

#

just imaginging being way underwater in that...tube lol

languid gulch
charred relic
#

I've been inside the USS Batfish, WWII era

languid gulch
#

oh god

night girder
#

Question; did any regulation/laws come out of the incident? Did something change in the US when it comes to submarines?

#

Or is it just business as usual?

charred relic
#

Yeah it was in my parents home town, and where my grandparents lived

languid gulch
charred relic
#

Doors for sealing off areas everwhere, most places fairly tight

#

although not as much as some might imagine... still tight though

#

Like many places two people cannot pass lol

night girder
#

So things like these, are less likely to happen.

charred relic
#

And those guys had to deal with things like enemy torpedoes and depth charges :/

languid gulch
night girder
night girder
#

It's one thing to make mistakes (as society). It's another thing to learn from them. And another to prevent.

charred relic
#

Aviation has the same sort of shit

#

I can built the most sus ultralight of all time and go fly it lol

languid gulch
charred relic
#

As long as I say out of certain airspace... my safety is 100% up to me on that one

night girder
languid gulch
#

one in particular

night girder
#

I had a discussion with Baldur I believe about it. And apparantly, when it comes to deaths, airplanes seem pretty safe.

languid gulch
#

trying to find the photo

charred relic
#

If I had an extra 35 grand sitting around I'd buy an ultralight

#

They are very safe... still safer than driving

night girder
#

I though airplanes had the most deaths. But not at all. Its boats and trains lol.

languid gulch
#

i flew in this one in 1998

charred relic
#

Oh those are great

charred relic
#

Wonderful planes

languid gulch
#

i didn't have a seat

charred relic
#

Not sure why you'd be scared of it lol

night girder
#

The only thing I wouldn't get in, is a jetfighter in the US.

charred relic
#

Let me take you up in a dual sea ultra

night girder
#

Because fuck the G's and passing out lol.

charred relic
#

you'll feel like you were perfectly safe in that thing hahaha

languid gulch
charred relic
#

I want G's

#

Sleep me pilot... put me down!

#

And I'm gonna fight it as long as I can

night girder
languid gulch
#

i sat with my back up against the copilot's seat for takeoff/landing, and my foor nearly got caught in the cable spool for the landing gear

charred relic
#

Yeah warplanes aren't comfortable πŸ˜„

languid gulch
#

oh and they opened the bomb bay doors while i was on the catwalk

night girder
#

Nice friends you have.

charred relic
#

Think the plane is scary, look at the swath of destruction it can drop

#

(even with WWII era exposives)

night girder
#

Even with WW2 explosives? You mean that war they used 2 nukes?

#

Or did you mean WW1?

charred relic
#

I'd imagine they carry larger bombs now

#

as far as exposives

languid gulch
#

and occasionally a single blockbuster

night girder
#

Speaking of bombs. I want to know if the bunker busters workerd or not 😠

#

Because the idea behind it, was very interesting.

languid gulch
#

probably not

charred relic
#

An enemy one of those overhead was not a good sign

night girder
#

Dig deep into the earth, then boom.

charred relic
#

becuase your air defense is ineffective and you're about to get pounded hard

night girder
#

And use multiple wasn't stupid either. But I just wonder if it all worked.

night girder
languid gulch
#

it only works if it destroys both the equipment and the knowledge

charred relic
#

Well the knowledge... kinda too late ont hat one

languid gulch
#

lil bit

charred relic
#

We opened pandoras box

languid gulch
#

lil bit

charred relic
#

now we must live with what comes out πŸ™‚

night girder
#

Work for me is;

  1. Did the bombs dig deep enough? Did they even "dig"?
  2. If they exploded, did it harm the facility?
  3. If they used multiple, the timing matters, does it work like they though it worked.
languid gulch
#

those sites were basically iranian NORAD. good luck actually getting to it

night girder
#

Killing the knowledge, like you said, sounds way harder to me, Because scientists can be anywhere. Even not on the facility.

charred relic
#

They might not even be in country... or new people could be imported from allies

languid gulch
#

yea, we know that NK is cooperating

charred relic
#

Good luck on preventing them from having the knowhow part down

languid gulch
#

and iran will 100% get help from russia these days, just to scare the US

night girder
charred relic
#

In some ways better to have qualified people running it

#

because... it's not super super hard and a lot of people COULD do it

#

they just can't do it safely heh

#

I mean a teenage kid was a hair away from a working reactor that would produce plutionium

languid gulch
charred relic
#

He jst needed more fissile material for fuel

#

he had SOME urianium lol

#

How the hell he popped up with uranium in the 90's... who the hell knows

languid gulch
#

and now we never get to know what those sites are like because iran's not about to let any int'l orgs in

charred relic
#

It'd certainly be easier to get now I'd imagine but still not easy

night girder
languid gulch
#

also we have satellite images of large trucks removing material from Fordo days before the attack

night girder
#

In 20 years we might know. How long it takes for secret files to be made public.

charred relic
#

If it's even close to as strong as cheyenne mountain...

#

I mean that place is designed to survive all out nuclear war.. so...

#

It's a real incarnation of the evil villains mountain lair lol

night girder
languid gulch
charred relic
#

But was anything actually loaded

languid gulch
#

both sides get to claim victory internally

night girder
#

Smoke and mirrors during war.

charred relic
#

for all anybody knows the trucks were a ruse to make people think there was nothing there to hit now

#

SHRUG...

#

Send somebody over to check...oh wait πŸ˜„

languid gulch
#

or they got the important stuff out with time to spare, and got them to sites we have no intel on

charred relic
#

I mean odds are if trucks were there....

languid gulch
#

yup

charred relic
#

They were loading up anything they'd produced

#

the initial fuel really doesn't even matter, just enriched shit

languid gulch
#

or stuff like centrifuges

charred relic
#

Yeah anything they'll fit on a truck reasonably quickly

languid gulch
#

or the isolated computer systems they started using after stuxnet

#

lots of important stuff you can just chuck into a big dump truck and haul ass outta there with

#

reminds me of Die Hard 2

#

no special way to sneak the gold out, just use dump trucks

night girder
#

the fact they did though, that timing.

#

Or maybe it was becasue they were hauling ass, they bombed it.

charred relic
#

Also the media was making out like it was way super hard to move fissile material

languid gulch
#

in which case, possibly too late

charred relic
#

But it's really not...

languid gulch
charred relic
#

Here sure... regulations nad oversight and blah blah but it can be done quickly and fairly safely on top of it

#

Even doing it safely isn't really that much effort is the thing

#

Well I safe safely... relatively safely. Def much more of a chance something goes sideways but still

languid gulch
charred relic
#

and like you say if you disregard all of that it's even faster and easier lol

#

imagine your commander has you handling fuel rods... with no PPE

#

not sure how far along Iran is on nuclear weapons but I have been around long enough to know this. It's been like fusion energy, it's just right around the corner!

#

perpetually... since I can remember

#

they were yapping about the same stuff on TV literally 40+ years ago

#

They're months away! Days! Years! Who knows!

pure karma
#

how are you americans holding up?

#

none of you got a firework in your digestive system yet i hope

#

i havent broke anything today... "yet"

languid gulch
#

i don't do fireworks at all

#

neighbors do more than enough

#

just glad my house has concrete roof shingles

visual tree
charred relic
#

Too much money tbh... to get good stuff to use

visual tree
#

And I think he is a psychopath imo

charred relic
#

I mean nothing wrong with blowing money on fireworks I just would rather not at this point in life lol

#

I just don't like the image it gives of tourists from that country.

#

At least try to respect your host countries culture...

#

If somebody invites me in their home I don't go in and wreck it.

visual tree
#

When I saw a video of him doing dumb things in Japan, I couldn't watch the whole video because it was so embarrassing

charred relic
#

Yes sometimes the secondhand embarrassment is brutal

#

I mean a big part of me wanting to visit Japan is to experience the CULTURE

#

The sights and sounds and all that are great too... but yeah

visual tree
charred relic
#

Plus with asians in general they, in my personal experience, have been among the most respectful and decent people.

#

Some lady got mad because she kept getting called fat in China

#

like yeah... they're blunt they aren't being offensive lol

#

It's called... CULTURE...

visual tree
#

Oh yeah. Heard there is no PC in China

charred relic
#

They'll say something like 'wow you are fat' and it's just really an observation lol

#

they aren't trying to be mean or insult you

#

If you're super tall they'll comment on that too

#

Wouldn't bother me personally..

visual tree
#

"How is the weather up there?" πŸ˜„

charred relic
#

Besides another mans words have only the power over you which you grant them. Nothing more.

#

Long ago I chose to grant no power.

visual tree
#

I have a colleague at work that is more who is 2 meters tall and I thought 194 cm was tall lol

charred relic
#

I worked with a guy once I'm surprised he didn't have to call into work on a low cloud day due to lack of visibility to drive

#

I'm short for a male.

#

I feel sorry for men shorter than me even lol

#

And I had to help some girl out the other day at the store with the top shelf which I could barely reach lol

#

but she was like 5' haha

visual tree
#

I hate when idiots mock people with dwarfism and talk to them like they are babies

#

They are just like everyone else except they are shorter

charred relic
#

Yeah that's an exception to the short male rule for me

#

because that's a physical condition thing not just short

languid gulch
#

i'd trade 15cm of height to get rid of my back problems

charred relic
#

Careful what you wish for

visual tree
#

I don't have back problems yet but need to work on my posture....

charred relic
#

the genie might break your back, making it not hurt

#

and also making you shorter lol

#

Sorry I recently re-wartched Wishmaster and that's totally a move he'd do hahah

#

He also made somebody do something I have wished I could make so many do... literally go fuck themselves

#

And ya know those first two movies were pretty good I thought... the next two were.... yeah the new guy didn't do it for me in that role

visual tree
#

It's like I when I stopped watching The last of us netflix series because one of the main characters died even though he dies in a videogame too lol

#

A lot of people stopped playing the last of us videogame after that character died. Guess the curse has been transferred to netflix too

#

Maybe I am too attached to that person hehe

languid gulch
#

you've gotta do that kind of plot thing right

#

it basically never works unless it's right at the start or at the end, handing it off to the next person carrying on the legacy

#

and it has to be handed off to the right person, with good writers to fill it in

charred relic
#

Well it's like... I dunno yeah

#

sometimes somebody is just so good in a role you have to be careful replacing them

#

or in other cases... ending that character killing them off entirely

#

They could have replaced the OG guy it's not like he was a brilliant actor or anyhtin but he was really good for that part. And the guy they used as a replacement was just a totally different vibe

#

I never watched the last of us but i do remember hearing something about that and people dropping out after some character died

#

i only kept up on (barely) a surface level

#

But with the Djinn character it would be kinda like for Return of the Jedi replacing Jones with Mr Bean as the voice of Darth Vader lol

#

Mr. T. I pitty the rebul scum!

#

I keep hoping to get some more live action Mace acted by Jackson, since one of my favorite actors.

languid gulch
#

sadly no

#

he's 76

#

maybe getting a young guy to play him in an origin series

charred relic
#

Wouldn't have minded seeing Keanu do some SW stuff too...

#

he could pass for post order 66, and could conceivably still be alive after the fight

languid gulch
#

smart thing with Keanu would be to have him play someone older than he is now, so they could use him again in the future

#

tho he is 60 already

charred relic
#

The problem with a post order 66 mace is where are you going to squeeze that into live action, the answer is probably nowhere

#

heh

languid gulch
#

yup

charred relic
#

I wanted to see Reeves get involved way before now...

languid gulch
#

doing a miniseries on him getting his purple lightsaber would be great

charred relic
#

like prequel era

#

Reeves is another favorite actor

#

Keanu just seems like a good human in general...

languid gulch
#

Ian McDiarmid was 38 when he played the Emperor in RotJ, then got to play him again in 1/2/3, and then 20 years later again in 9

#

absolutely brilliant

charred relic
#

Apparently SWT Vader series will have Mace in it... too bad he's not big enough to pull Jackson for it

#

...or....is he. (he's not but it would be a shocker if he popped up)

#

Well for the last one lol good lord

languid gulch
#

think Witwer could voice him?

charred relic
#

you could have dressed a potato up that body was in such bad shape

#

I dunno

languid gulch
#

🀣

charred relic
#

FFS how old was he at that point

languid gulch
#

who

charred relic
#

Palpy McScrotumface

languid gulch
#

🀣

#

i mean, he's 80 now

charred relic
#

no i mean the character at ep 9

languid gulch
#

only 4 years older than sam jackson

charred relic
#

i mean he was getting older in the prequels...

#

by jedi he had to be what? 70+

languid gulch
#

2019, so 74 there

charred relic
#

so then by the time ep 9 tolls around...

languid gulch
#

ian was 74

#

2 years younger than jackson is now 🀣

charred relic
#

ok so... this is saying 80's in a new hope lol

languid gulch
#

🀣

charred relic
#

so by ep9 yeah

#

no wonder them fingers were basically decayed off lol

#

Apparently the dark side isn't a pathway to having a functional body?

languid gulch
#

anger and spite keeps a body alive far longer than it's supposed to. kissinger lived to hit 100

charred relic
#

Before the diad realization what was the plan? Kylo couldn't contain his power

#

Rey maybe...

languid gulch
#

maybe it was going to make him younger 🀣

charred relic
#

Well belive me hooking up with Rey would certainly make me feel younger D

languid gulch
#

classic story of an aging person wanting youth back

charred relic
#

Youth is wasted on the young πŸ˜„

languid gulch
charred relic
#

I'll tell ya who I had a thing for back in the day... Portman

languid gulch
#

lol

charred relic
#

good lordy what a smokeshow

languid gulch
#

and she's a genius

charred relic
#

yeah she can fight, she's smart she's hot

languid gulch
#

knockout+genius=amazing regardless of age

charred relic
#

where are you IRL!

languid gulch
#

🀣

charred relic
#

Ridley is hot too tho

languid gulch
#

i bet you disney's gonna try to get her to be a force ghost at some point

charred relic
#

Oh they gotta right

#

I'm glad to see Hayden back

#

I disliked the hate he got back then.... I thought he did well

#

He was trying to play the pre-suit version of something he had no examples to pull from really

languid gulch
charred relic
#

What people were calling "wooden" acting was him putting on that vader lkike personality

#

I dunno I thought he did fine...

#

I think the first movie overall was very... thin. But it picked up for 2 and 3

languid gulch
#

he did decently, and Star Wars has never been known for high-tier acting

#

plus an actor is only as good as the lines they're given, and the direction they're told to deliver the lines

charred relic
#

The OG crew were nobodies really outside of a couple of exceptions

#

Ford was somehwat known then of course... Guinness

languid gulch
#

carrie fisher was known too, mainly from her mom

charred relic
#

Jones was established but juste a VA

#

Yeah... they were all just getting intot he insustry

#

Ford blew up...

languid gulch
#

it was definitely a "let's just fuck around with some scifi stuff" in the start

charred relic
#

Hamill did too in a sense... with the VA work

languid gulch
#

oh that was way later

#

he didn't land Joker until the late 80s iirc

charred relic
#

Well he really isn't like a super great actor or anything

languid gulch
#

oh jeez, 1992

charred relic
#

I feel like he was kinda of a perfect for this role guy at thws time heh

languid gulch
#

oh i think he's a great actor if the writing's good

#

his joker is incredible

#

he has the right kind of camp to a role

charred relic
#

I recall hearing something about him voicing that character longer than anybody

languid gulch
#

i've personally never found harrison ford to be a good actor. based on seeing who he is publicly, that's who he is on the screen. that's not acting to me

charred relic
#

He's def not a good pilot...

languid gulch
#

he's a decent pilot, just had a couple incidents

#

bound to happen at his age & hours

charred relic
#

Yeah but pretty big ones

#

ones that can get hundreds of people dead....

languid gulch
#

eh, highly public

charred relic
#

like passing over a commercial jet landing ona taxiway

#

they should have pulled his certs right there tbh

languid gulch
#

at least he put that one down on a golf course, best option in the area

#

he also did some rescues, that's not bad

charred relic
#

the golf course i can overlook... landing on a taxiway... wowzers

languid gulch
#

oh yea that's dumb

charred relic
#

especially when you are flyting OVER a commercial jet that you could have not seen lol

#

that alone tells you SOMETHING is not right... whther it's you or them it's something

languid gulch
#

was 2017, well after retirement age

#

oh and 2020

#

yea, yank it

charred relic
#

Sometimes the tower makes a mistake and tells a craft to move where it shouldn't but yeah this was just herp derp

languid gulch
#

2017 should have been enough for the pilot to know to quit

charred relic
#

Like honestly even I wouldn't make THAT mistake

#

And I have 0 certs and minimal experience

languid gulch
#

i did pass ground school 🀣

#

loooooooooong time ago

charred relic
#

in fact where the plane was at it was holding short or moving ontot he runway, I would have not even landed at all at that point and just gone around

languid gulch
#

yup, just to hopefully avoid the paperwork

charred relic
#

Pretty easy to noap out of that one

#

yeah probably still in trouble but at least you caught it before you flew dangerously close to a jet and landed on a taxiway lol

#

The ATC communication is funny becaus ehe got the let me know when you can copy a number line

#

and he was just like im ready lol

#

dude was breaking out the pen before he came to a stop

languid gulch
#

idk if that's better or worse than landing at the wrong airport

charred relic
#

or overflying your destination by like...

#

and hour+

#

"gee honey i don't remember this flight taking this long...."

pure karma
#

NO

#

i dont want cold again already

languid gulch
#

please

pure karma
#

its cold like 10 months of the year

languid gulch
#

it's 40 here

pure karma
#

its enough

languid gulch
#

C

pure karma
#

its raining and depressing here

#

and 17C

sharp matrix
#

They dont survivejace_smile

languid gulch
#

we just don't go outside unless it's early in the morning

#

when it's a nice cool 35

#

🀣

sharp matrix
#

Just wear a ac suitjace_smile

languid gulch
#

we do have those

pure karma
#

i mean its been hitting 30s here during the afternoons but like its not that unreasonable

#

30C is my room on a regular day

languid gulch
#

yea i keep the thermostat at 27

#

mine's the kind that's always kinda on, just at a low level

pure karma
#

same here 20.5 at lowest level

#

but unfortunately that means it cant overpower my pc so my rooms stays hot and everywhere else stays cold and its anoying

languid gulch
#

oh yea my pc definitely challenges it

#

so i put the cpu on eco mode & throttled my 4090 to 350W

#

it'll definitely be a nice heater in the winter

pure karma
#

mine surprisingly hasent been

#

ac is clearly ifghting more this time

#

or me flipping my fans helped store more of the heat instead of disipating it

#

since my pc is exhausting a lot less

languid gulch
#

you know a pc is a nice heater once you start being able to measure its power consumption in horsepower

pure karma
#

its just regurgitating its own air

languid gulch
pure karma
#

honestly its not even running any hotter so idk what kind of black magic i managed to pull off but yea its probably a good idea especially with that 4090 you have

charred relic
#

checks thermostat

pure karma
#

room temp rn is 24 cause i cranked the ac erlier

charred relic
#

yep 76F...

pure karma
#

yeeep

languid gulch
#

eco mode my cpu tops out at 90W

pure karma
#

no longer on intel defaults so locked clocks at 220W baybeeee

#

Speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed

languid gulch
#

think that voltage might be a bit low?

pure karma
#

yea idk its been dropping

#

should be at 1.4 but i wont question it

languid gulch
#

🀣

#

or 1.6

charred relic
#

lol

#

what you 100%ing it with?

pure karma
#

cinebench

#

while running a game and youtube video

#

all at once

#

realistic load

charred relic
#

prime 95....

languid gulch
#

i do find it incredible that you can run a couple of games & a browser with a fuckton of tabs open on something nowhere near top end these days

charred relic
#

it's sometimes hitting 190ish

pure karma
#

iv nerver ran prime 95

#

im interested

charred relic
#

Lemme try cine

languid gulch
#

i'm legit afraid to run those

charred relic
#

shit i thought i had it installed

languid gulch
#

i've also managed to only unplug the fire hazard once since i got it

#

and that's because i was a dumbass

pure karma
#

prime dosent hit as hard

charred relic
#

yeah i know that's why im installing cinebench

pure karma
charred relic
#

maybe with some custom settings prime does more i dunno, but the max power/heat setting built in isn't THAT stressful

languid gulch
pure karma
#

common join the 200W club

#

🀣

languid gulch
#

oh i can't get there

#

best i've done is 160W

#

9800X3D

charred relic
#

heh with the multi core cpu test im using less power than with prime

#

abpout 165ish

#

sometimes bouncing up to 170-171

languid gulch
#

that $50 360 AIO from thermalright is incredible

charred relic
languid gulch
#

i have been slightly tempted to waterblock the 4090

languid gulch
#

the air cooler is hilarious on it tho

#

i couldn't get it over 72C

charred relic
#

I'm glad I went AIO this time... even though there are great air coolers

pure karma
#

i cant get my gpu over 60 half the time lol
