That last sentence is so fun cuz there are at least like three question marks popping up in my head about it
And none of them would be appropriate to ask here
Zelenskyy isn't for the people, he's been prolonging the "war"
Because this server explicitly disallows discussing politics and I've had too many encounters with the mods to entertain obvious offtopic discussions like those
there people raised rent prices 3 fold.
it's good financial opportunity for them...
Ukraine is doing worse than America?
nothing can top what I experience while reading news about laws and lawsuits.
I would tell you if I could visit USA
did SF got visual ugprade of water in 1.1 ?
Russia wants your oil, you may as well just hand it over
π
oil? hardly know her
They're going to do everything they can to occupy the land where your oil resides and possibly incorporate Ukraine into Russia
Time to see how many people I can kill today

i thought it was saying fps lol
I have yet to win a no deaths award
oh well as long as the money keeps rolling in π
Cuz they can π and FSR also usually looks better than TAA these days IMO
in the middle of doing absolutely nothing for hours straight my laptop decided that it will have memory leak and crash Chrome tabs
Literally 2
And it leaked slowly on the span of 49.hours
Anyway....
While any drama happens, it's always important to ask: what sneaky shit happens in the background while everyone talks About topic X?
So, what happens while Thor is in the spotlight?
Or and btw, what are the takes of other past/present gamedevs on this?
Question is, what kind of responsibility does it require from all developers?
from my understanding its the studios/services and not the devs that are burying the work
everytime i go on amazon i question people
first of all 12$ dafuq second of all why are so many people buying way overspeced ethernet cables π€£
that sounds like it's maybe about 5cm long
25ft supposedly
ima be honest i hate both
i mostly use metric for the extra precision but im forced to use both and i hate everythign forced upon me
good goooood
the windows logo on the taskbar on a 27 inch 1440P monitor is exactly 1/4" big
so theres a random fun fact for you
Actually not quite
it do be like that tho
0.6CM id say
This little goober is single handevely the best purchase i have ever made
Its literally just half size
i live in the world of the sea
and mapple trees
oh yea i have the Adam Savage pocket tape measure
super valuable as an EDC
my 2nd favorite but probably more used one is both metric & imperial
my cpu fan curve is right on the edge of ramping up & down
lol
i got to meet tom wilson years ago
super nice guy, good guitar player
there's still a couple of farms left near me, but it's definitely filled in
yea
already in suburbs, so it's kinda slow to fill in
just buy a bunch of those GIGANTIC tourist swings that goes out over the valleys
are they thinking Nuremburg-Pilsen-Dresden?
would it be tolerable to run the tunnel through Pilsen?
i was thinking it'd be smart to run the tunnel from Prague Int'l Airport to the one near Dobrany
sell it under the idea that if it's built, then it's already halfway to Nuremberg π€£
oh we had one of those for 75 years
we had surface light rail a century ago, then Ford/GM/Chrysler showed up and paid the legislators to ban it
we're just now getting it back
oh definitely
gotta start somewhere tho
it'll change things
π€£
yup
governments tend not to do things that don't pay for themselves
(tend to)
trying to connect Poland & Slovakia?
oh that
in a much dumber way, yes
also one where i live
people have been trying to connect Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Las Vegas with TGV for about 40 years
knew i should have...
So looking at this I guess no really compelling reason to upgrade unless I'm getting a 9070 XT or better...
not really, no
unless you really need more than 12gb vram
true, but we can also put solar in our north without problems
honestly no good upgrade path for really anything at anythign other that budget range
Wondering if I'd actually see much benefit from an X3D CPU
the market has been too slow and mid for too long
my guess is for me it would functionally be nothing i'd notice relaly
Wanna make sure I don't have an upgrade path somewhere within a reasonable budget before I blow my load on something else lol
Like a used rack server...
our north is still south of most of Germany, so doing solar anywhere here really isn't a geography problem
As far as Ive understood, X3D comes into play when youre playing in higher resolutions..
Iβm considering X3D cuz i enjoy PCVR games, and theye rendering in some 4k ish resolution
high resolution & iirc frame rate
I dont think youll see much difference on X3D playing FullHD.. But could be wrong
its the oposite tho?...
more cpu = more cpu not magically more frames
oh definitely, but that's a political & logistics issue
we really should have built/rebuilt passenger rail the way Japan did. high off the ground, no intersecting with roads, full electric. from day 1
Again its a bit fuzzy area for me.. But afaik, the X3D is better for certain games, as the cache is is larger.. I assumed it was for handling stuff like texture files better
thats the vrams job
I'm already hitting decent FPS in stuff I play... at more than acceptable quality settings
I mean I could flip my old CPU so it's not like an upgrade would be full cost or anything but still
have to deal with the hassle of the flip and etc
nothing i love more than launching a game and seeing like 12,000FPS
ouch 460 for the 9800X3D
minus what i got for my 9700x on the used market
not worht it lol
the motherboard hurts more
the fact that motherboards are more expensive on average than the top of the line cpu's for them is insane
True..
The Cache on X3D CPU is helping with stuff like Game logic, AI, physics calculation.
Which frees up a lot of RAM proccesing..
At least thats what i got out of the article about X3D :)
Apparently AI decided I had one
yea i mean idk the detaisl but its defedently just more preloading of ram stuff helping with faster processing even with slight slowdowns and inconsistencies
I'm sure I'd see some level of benefit in higher FPS and perhaps other tasks but for me right now there isn't enough juice for the squeeze between the cost, the flip, actually swapping the part out
Guess I'm set on gaming rig for awhile...
wait what the 9800X3D has so much less cache than i tought what
my 13700K has more cache than it
only L3 is bigger
Well actually
Eyeballing that lol
Pretty sure that classifies as PC gaming related lol
Quote from reddit.
Larger v cache on the physical cpu. A larger cache means more local data is stored on the cpu and this means it isnβt relying on the memory (RAM) to supply that information to your cpu. This typically translates to more frames and faster frame times.
so X3D is just puting the L3 cache on crack
i tought it was all 3 but no
so i have better cache than a 9800X3D (kinda)
Guess it would be the 64MB 3D V-Cache that makes the X3D excel on gaming
yep although i wonder why
youd think the l1 and l2 would matter but clearly not for gaming
It also has a lot of the L3
L1 is for rapid small instructions, dedicated to individual cores.
L2 is slower and larger, dedicated for a cluster of cores.
L3 is slowest but largest, shared amongst all Cores
still makes no sense since gaming would be L1
i think whats likely going on is L1 is just so small L3 is doing all the work instead
I guess the shared L3 on all cores is most beneficial
probably the shared bit
That and the types of instructions the v-cache is desgiend for isn't suitable for small sizes
either way... it works
on another similar topic i still have no idea what ram being cached is in reference to
like why is like 99% of my ram being used cached
RAM is never left empty
It'll cache data until it runs out of cache space then start overwriting
unless it doesn't have enough to fill it
so this is like 10+10*10^10 levels deep
There's used... then there is used when it comes to memory lol
your data goes from your storage to your ram
from the ram to the ram cache
from the ram cache to the vram and cpu cache
to the various cache levels
and then disapears into heat once its used
Eventually that bar will fill it, but it'll mostly be yellow
just old cached data in case it gets called on lol
And sometimes despite having plenty of free ram at all times during current boot... the machine will dip into swap
i read something about that once... there are certain things that just do that
if i launch anything else intensive whiel satisfactory is runnign my vram usage goes through the roof for no reasson
if that machine is disk swapping something is not right... it barely has any swap anyhow
thats the origin of those like 17/12GB screenshots i sent forever ago
I'm comitted to 1440p for sure
also after using the B580 for a while i have no idea why it even has 12Gb of vram lol
3440x1440 specifically now
iv nerver seen it past like 4.5GB used even at 1440P
This reminds me I gotta look up some Quadro cards... a couple of the servers I looked at had quadros
i don't care about them outside of video encode/decode
I won't even have a monitor plugged intot hat machine so...
streaming re-encoding
for the times native format won't play for whatever reason, typically stuff can just stream natively for me
we really need better encoding and decoding i cant lie
not to mention gaming cards cant reach anything past like 70% encoder/decoder usage
im tired of my 1440P recordigns being at like 2fps
i just wanna offload that task onto a card if possible
bycause my $1200 gpu cant do basic fucking encoding
or as much of it as i can anyhow
One core of a 13700k can access 2+30MB of L3 cache, the rest is inaccessible and from gaming POV that mostly makes it useless
One core of any of the x3d CPU's can access 96.5 MB+ of cache.
I keep shopping used servers then I blow my money on something like a flight yoke π
do you even need a server lol
2GB RAID controller, 8x1TB drives already installed
E5-2690 v3 is a bit old but suitable for my needs
Oh and it's got two of them... and 256GB RAM... so overkill on RAM I don't need that much
I kinda like that but I want another bay set up for droves but empty
The good thing about shopping for this type of stuff is there are tons of different configurations, I want heavier on drive and drive bays and lighter on RAM.
why get 8 drives when you could get one...
Yes because I want to lose all of my data when it fails
its there but black???
Have a couple of unporovisioned SDD's...
the smaller nVME was out of my old build lol
+2 more 1TB drives technically
The SSD's I have are smol
a 500 and a 250, why they aren't even provisioned... nothing to put on them anyhow
actually one has kubuntu on it right now because I wanted to test drive KDE since I haven't in decades
But yeah... they just sit there and sometimes I dual boot onto one.. the other... both...
I spent years with 0 windows systems in my house in the early to mid 2000's lol
it was all linux or BSD
distrubuted compiling was great when you had a bunch of machines sitting around
Way way after than doing it on the one machine (I was running Gentoo at the time, from source)
wonder if distcc is still a thing...
Yep... still around lol
well i take that back the last release was 2021 but still it likely works
And this... is why I am oh so tired π
im tired because its 1am
but i dont want to sleep because its too hot
and now its hot in my room too and im just tired and hot
Oh ya know I forgot about the 500GB USB 3 external that's fast enough to run games from if I really just had to for some reason...
i use usb sticks as game cartridges sometimes π
lol well this gets the same speeds as i'd get if it were plugged into the mobo
i just use it for... random crap like OS images and such
that was 100% a thing back when people still used HDDs as their only storage, but games loaded faster on solid state
my mmo's instance transfer loading screens are a solid 30s on spinning rust, and almost instant on SSDs
remember ReadyBoost from the Vista days?
sorry not sorry I don't make the rules...
This doesn't sound good when the original creators leave the studio
This.
"New guy will develop faster"
New guy will either deliver or fuck everything up (: die roll.
Ohh shir this is how it becomes a live service game
Awww poor little 1080TI π₯Ί
I would imagine Todd Howard walking around with a whip and torturing employees. Hope whoever is monitoring subnautica development now isn't like that....
Or worse: months of crunch hours like in Projekt Red regarding cyberpunk
@velvet jasper re screenshot.
Corrupted vram, something stealing vram from game, e.g streaming software or other graphics intensive task (like a local running ai model, or e.g crypto miner) or your graphics card have little vram so textures break, because it cant keep all of them in memory. Im guessing another process taking the vram and therefore overwriting the textures in game. (Its the most plausible cause)
The thing is that game is working normally, it happens only on steam screenshots
A normal printscreen works? In that case the steam overlay is broken (which is responsible for taking the screenshot)
Thanks for help
Went into panic mode when Amazon notified me package has been delivered without me actually seeing it. Found out driver left the package at the gates without ringing which I don't like because of thieves....
Also, If someone actually stole the package, I would have problems later trying to prove to Amazon I never received the package
Unless they accept camera recording as a legal evidence
As expected when the delivery drivers basically have negative amount of time for the actual delivery stops...
I'm totally fine if they didn't have time and dropped the package in a parcel locker or post office. I just don't like when they leave items in the open since I don't trust my neighbors tbh
My nosy neighbor next door would probably steal it
Let's hope they pushed it through the bars.
And not thrown it over.
Yeah, he just pushed it through the bars. I would be pissed if he threw it over lol
I blame my sister too though. She keeps ordering items and sets delivery to my home. Perhaps it's the same delivery man who delivered my sister's packages.
My sister just tells people to throw the package over lol
Not the brightest person. Annoyed me all the time to find a company which installs and mantains alarm systems and once I did, she left for vacation without turning on the alarm....
Imagine having ministry of defense investigated for corruption, on food prices.
And that's a couple days after submitting law project to forbid any investigation of defense industry.
T timing
I wonder if it's covered in the west media whatsoever. But I am sure some are taking notes
Tbh
The whole delivery thief problem seems so out pf grasp to me.
Because of high urban life.
Our post services put automated additional post... Idk, drop-off points? With their our locked boxes which you can access on your own via entering code or bluetooth.
Because of course how else would you handle delivery in dense apartment building neighbourhoods?
Not sure it would guarantee to stop, if you order a good glitter bomb :)
But it would make them think twice before stealing... Hopefully.. I know some people wouldn't think twice
Paintball turret with AI!
Mother-in-law detected, FIRE!

To bad it doesn't just work
Reminds me in the past I blindly trusted Nvidia drivers, big mistake
Maybe if you use apple products
Perfect IT example here...
Well it works on my PC
Thats the fun part, there is always at least one pc where "it just works", but isn't true in all cases
If your workplace doesn't have that 1 Laptop in a sacred (preferable locked) cabinet - which you pull out when you need that "final touch" on something..
Your workplace might have a serious red flag..
waht did I do?
We got Dell laptops at work and acrobat reader keeps crashing all the time on mine. Just noticed my RAM in task manager was at 93% so I guess I will have to ask IT department for a RAM upgrade
8 GB might have been enough for office work 5 years ago but today you need 16 GB minimum it appears
I am just using MS office, browser, SAP and some other non-demanding applications but my RAM is almost always above 90%
There might be some other applications installed by IT department running in the background though
Just started a new job this month..
We have this one cabinet, with that 1 laptop in it..
Its running Windows XP, has that 1 special USB driver installed and software for downloading to that 20 year old controller..
If this PC dies - the company is fucked basically :D
π
If even Apple is moving to 16GB then PC users should have already done it years ago
nah, only got two π
And their OS does an amazing amount of things with what seems like little RAM
I once worked in a company which had a server with very old PSU. When we moved to a new office, they forgot to tell me you need to plug that server into UPS and not directly to the wall outlet or the PSU will die. Guess what happened.....
I plugged the server into an outlet and made a short-circuit in the whole floor....
This is going to end well I take itπ
Well the company does sell "state of the art" machinery..
Or whatever you call it with 20 year old technology :D
Yep nothing wrong here at allπ
state of the art... god i hate that term at this point
do you know how long i've heard that used for marketing....
or "space age materials"
well yeah we've been to space... that makes literally every material made now "space age"
Not to worry..
I'm being the absolute youngest in the company at 40.. Driving the average age down a lot... If i wasn't there I think the average age is about 60..
And lemme tell you state of the art in 1977 isn't the state of anything outside of retro now.
Radioshack totally deserves this atribute though. Their multimeters lasted too long and the company went bankrupt because once you sell something, It will never break lol
Well you probably can guess what i think of these marketing terms
SPACE AGE MATERIALS BRO!
literally anything you can splash "state of the art on", its literally bs....
state of the fart
Well what can i say.. one of the welders is turning 80 this year.. still working
When people say they don't make them like they used to, it's not a joke
i like to think of it as state of the bullshit
Got surprised when I learned CRT monitors have faster response time than lcd monitors today
Of course they do
CRT monitors are awesome
people are gouging CRT prices in some cases... selling them as "retro" because old console gamers seek them out
i loved my crt monitors
So if somebody knows about all that they will add at least 50 bucks to the price lol
Still recall early ages of Counter Strike - when people was stuck on 60Hz LCD monitors - and you were rocking 120Hz on CRT.. Such a big advantage :D
lol
And no delay from either processing or pixel to change.
yeah that was a pretty funny period of time
I want to pick up a CRT TV... but I also don't mind if it needs minor repair
a lot of times they are broken but easy fixes
So even today the response would be much faster than just refresh rate would say.
Sadly it wasn't damaging for the reasons most people thought back then
And back then the actual response delay on LCDs was significant.
Contrary to popular belief, sitting close to a screen will not damage your eyes but it will strain them though
they were worried about the radiation or some article they read about how it's basically an x-ray
it's the flicker that kills you
Electron beam, that gets dissipated by the front layers which gets that color response from the phosphoruses.
phosphor
Three different ones.
but if you remove that it is essentially... an x-ray
One for each color.
And it's def dangerous... but uhhh they don't manufacture those tubes like that so it was a whole lot of worry about nada
Not really, X-ray is more of microwave type thing.
Not particle radiation like electron beam.
"While CRTs (Cathode Ray Tubes) are not X-ray tubes, they can generate low levels of X-rays"
incorrecto
There aint a lot of difference between the two bud
Which says that at least some of them do generate more microwave type radiation, as byproduct.
Not that the actual used type is x-rays.
What was this?
can I be captain strawman?
The funnel and the neck are made of leaded potash-soda glass or lead silicate glass[6] formulation to shield against x-rays generated by high voltage electrons as they decelerate after striking a target, such as the phosphor screen or shadow mask of a color CRT.
So the x-ray part is result of the electron beam doing work.
So if the electron beam wasn't doing work, no x-rays either.
As x-rays are light-waves in very high microwave range, not particle radiation.
that electron beam is basically beta radiation.
If the energy was high enough.
Not going to try to find the amount of x-rays a tube at use generates compared to general radiactivity exposure from just being in normal Finnish home, or to eating a single banana.
One study using CRT monitors concluded that because of the low dose rate, accurate dosimetry was difficult. It estimated the effective dose (ED) to an operator working in front of a monitor was 454 ΞΌSv yearly.
That's less than one percent of the dose limit.
For 8-12 hours a day, for 5 days a week, for year.
Not even measurable in 1982 study:
https://inis.iaea.org/collection/NCLCollectionStore/_Public/16/030/16030661.pdf
That other I quoted was from 2015.
The exact surroundings are still bad in many places, where the burning stuff landed in large quantities and hasn't been cleaned.
lol
i know right and im in there trying to sleep but can't because they have to do the breathing thing
Like having a machine gun going around your head. Must be hell for war veterans a MRI scan.
:/
My neighbor is a war vet, doesn't bother him
different type of sound, they tend to be triggered by certain sounds
oh if it doesn't bother him, then no war veteran is affected
What is it with strawmen today
haha π
I said it doesn't bother HIM
basically means you are arguing against something I NEVER SAID
aaah, I though it was grasping at straws. Or something.
you created the entire argument, aka the strawman
guess what, im too smart for those
i will burn it down before you're done building it... so....
I don't think it has anything to do with how smart someone is π€£
Man, what's up with these high horses lately. Rofl.
they just engage in the argument which now actually involves defending something you didn't even actually say heh
Well, fuck MRI. Poor war veterans.
I mean I can ask a few more veterans and add them tot he list of it doesn't bother them
Yeah, sure go for it.
Sorry I don't know enouhg personally for an actual study
But I know a LOT
Point still remains they aren't just automagically triggered by loud things alone
some are... for the most part from the ones I talk to it's certain sounds and even more so situations.
the trapped aspect is worse for most of them, those guys came home with a different mindset
always knowing where every exit is an which ordered they are best used
back to the wall when they eat out somewhere../.
I can still tell how well my neighbor knows or trusts somebody just based on his demeanor when they are behind him.
MRI scan makes loud noises. Like a machine gun.
it makes multiple loud noises
machine gun, loud knocking
clicking, they're super loud
a lot of people would really hate seeing the part you don't see
that's in there spinning
And the machine barely vibrates... meanwhile I got a washer that walks it's way across the laundry room.
you don't want anything magnetic in or on you hahha those things are straight up violeent when metal gets too close
From what I understand if they totally lose power on those they have to be serviced, the coolant has to always be flowing or some such
yeah liquid helium, couldn't remember
when the machine is idle and it's making a sort of swishing sound, that's what it is
I've had so many MRI's at this point...
Nah, I just experienced a MRI scan. Didn't ask the doctor how it worked π
I've had numerous conversations with the techs... and watched some videos
Had quite a few interesting conversations with various staff up there at Emory's main campus
like Maggie, who had a background originally with animals lol
we had an interesting conversation about cow stomach anatomy...
did you know they sometimes let them eat a magnet because it can't pass through the first stomach and will catch other metal the stupid thing eats
Maggie was awesome
Emory is nice... as far as hospitals go
I mean FFS you choose meals from a menu there heh
And the main campus site is awesome, lots of litttle outdoor areas with fountains and statues. Lots of art inside.
Also one of the the top transplant hospitals in the world.... π
Not just Emory but that site specifically
I hate the local hospital in this city.
Absolutely terrible... and does not have a great approval rating all around with the locals
But yes, seems that medical etc. use x-rays at least used to be generated by much higher energy electron beams hitting stuff to generate x-rays.
And seems that most monochrome CRTs don't generate any x-rays, as there is minimum energy limit.
I've been bleeding in my stomach and packed a bag and gone the hour drive to Emory rather than go here heh
I did that... a bunch of times
But... I also knew I was going to end up staying for at least a few days and I did not not not want to do that here
i drove myself π
no need for an ambulance... no immediate emergency
I mean that situation was an "emergency" but I had time, it wasn't going to kill me quickly at all lol
Plus I knew once I got there it would be at least a couple of hours before anybody even looks into anything... unless im falling out
As soon as they find out in the ER that it's liver disease related vertices it becomes kinda routine
err verices
Those are all gone now fortunately... after I dunno how many ER trips and 3-4 day stays
I'd walk in with a be like "blood in stool, likely liver related"
They gotta check but they know pretty much right there what's up
The bright side is I get out of jury duty now...
I don't mind it other than they need to get with the times with how they deal with all of it.
in 2025 you shouldn't need to show up just to sit around all day
during ccovid you had to mail int he form then if you were needed they'd call you... like guys that's how it should have always worked
I'd not be selected based on one thing
I could say two words that almost guarantees I don't end up on a jury.
There are also certain offenses I would refuse to give a guilty verdict on anyhow.
Even if they caught them red handed... because I disagree with the law itself.
But if you are heard saying the words "jury nullification" you likely won't be selected heh
yeah sorry not sending some dude to a cage because they had a little weed
If it's something dangerous then we can talk...
Plus... where is the victim of the crime.
Not real big on sending people to a cage... if there wasn't a victim
What's lame is that a lot of judges will get pissed about that jurry nullification stance but uhhh that's the point of a trial of your peers
if they were meant to judge based solely on the law and no morals then the jury would be lawyers and judges, not regular people who don't know the law like that
As a juror you are allowed to vote based on your own conscious, it's part of the law. Despite that people have gotten into sticky situations with judges over it.
Ultimatelt a judge can't do shit to compell you to behave differently so it's just a hassle
REally jurors should be informed of all of this... it should me required
because a lot of people have NO idea they don't have to go soley on the law
Yes that's what has gotten people into hot water lol
Like handing out fliers in front of the courthouse lol
So not only do they NOT tell jurors all this they are against them even knowing. Which is bad.
Every country is dipshits
if you really want to get down to brass tacks, you can find a reason to complain about everyone
AFAIK mentioning you know about jury nullification during the pre-selection interview stage is quick way to get out of jury duty.
It is
Either the defense or the prosectution will have a problem with it and unless they have run out of selections they will slip ya
And I also can't really NOT disclose that
Not would I want to... they will allll know what they'll get with me heh
Last time I went they were selecting for a case with some dude that got caught with like 12 pounds of meth
I'm like man I bet he's working to flip on his source so hard right now
Now that person, yeah they needed some away time if they were guilty
mmm sour bites crawlers
weird candy packaging... says not safe for kids π
I'll tell ya what wasn't safe for kids... growing up in the 70's and 80's...
Sometimes I look back and think "were we like... trying to die?"
My mom, and this goes back to x-rays, remembers when they had those machines in stores for sizing your feet for shoes. It was an x-ray machine
and people were just marching in there sticking their feet in there like it was no big deal because nobody knew lol
Moral of the story is we might be lucky we're not all running around with feet growing out of our feet...
the one in Armageddon was fun, with artificial gravity capability
at least without a replacement
i could deal with it if we had a bigger or more internationally cooperative one
i do kinda like Neil DeGrasse Tyson's interpretation of it, comparing it to New World exploration
governments had to spend the resources first because individuals and companies aren't about to invest in something so uncertain
eh, we have the resources to do both
oh definitely
Degrass is the goat.
π
Man, people these days.
Just love to shit on anyone.
Even Gandhi couldn't do any good in these days. Or freaking Jesus.
What did Neill Degrasse did so wrong, that he wouldn't be a great scientist and human?
i might be a bad american because i completely agree with his assessment of pluto
lol
My main problem with him is he used to be humble, all the attention went to his head and it only got worse over the years.
yea i saw that one
a bad american sounds like a good european in my book π€£
Carl Sagan... he is not
i find it insane that with all the discoveries and really good science, collaboration, and how obsessive everyone is about definitions, that nobody had defined "planet" in over 2000 years
Either way he gets science in front of people who otherwise might have not been exposed to it so...
i don't mind that he's occasionally wrong, i appreciate that he teaches people how to think, not what to think
For what good it does. I saw somebody yesterdy that thinks outside the atmosphere = zero gravity
I'm like no... stop ISS in place and it falls right back down tot he planet lol
I see a clear definition of a planet.
yup, not established until 2006
I have the RIP pluto shirt lol
So they better not reclassify it...
Or they owe me a damn shirt!
The definition of the term planet has changed several times since the word was coined by the ancient Greeks. Greek astronomers employed the term αΌΟΟΞΟΞ΅Ο ΟλαναΏΟΞ±ΞΉ (asteres planetai), 'wandering stars', for star-like objects which apparently moved over the sky. Over the millennia, the term has included a variety of different celes...
When the ancient Greeks came up with their definition of planets, they counted Earth's Moon, and Sun as planets along with Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. Interestingly, Earth was not considered a planet, but rather was thought to be the central object around which all the other celestial objects orbited.
so there was a definition.
Oh well I know people who don't think we've never been to space and are in fact trapped inside of a dome
just not a good one π
i mean, it worked for the time
but they also think that not only are there aliens but they have been ON the planet so... like... how did you decuce they have no dome?
until it didn't
How they they pass ours which, according to you, cannot be penetrated.
or look with instruments
Like man... not only are you scienece ignorant you arne't even making fucking sense
Or the ISS is fake... I mean you can only go see it with your own eyes with some pretty inexpensive optics
here's my extra controversial take on terms: i find cosmonaut to be a better term, even though i don't use it as often as astronaut
And boy with recreational space travel right around the corner for the common man probably... the flat earth crowd has a problem
also the flat earther genius who built his own rocket and immediately killed himself
american? π
how'd ya guess
If I recall his rocket wouldn't have even been capable of getting high enough anyhow
A California man who said he wanted to fly to the edge of outer space to see if the world is round has died after his home-built rocket blasted off into the desert sky and plunged back to earth. (Feb. 23)

To say he wasn't a smart man... would be generous
I am not sure, I don't know a lot of flat earthers in EU.
seems more like a US thing.
They are all over... I'm convinced a lot of them are just trolls though
I find it hard to believe there are THAT many flat brains
trolls that found stupid people to send them money
yup
The Flat Earth Society. We have members all around the globe!
dumbasses who claimed to believe something to rip off others who actually believe it, and then they grow dependent on that revenue stream. can't back out of it without recanting everything, losing the money, and maybe getting killed by true believers
societies like that always eat their own
I'm pretty sure intersellar aliens view us like locals view that meth'd up trailer park across town
we'll drive 5 mils out of our way to avoid it... lol
They're like "nope any day now they're going to blow that whole place up with antimatter, just stay away"
Man them looking at us would have to be a lot like us looking at something like a chimp or monkey heh
probably a 4chan meme that got out of hand π€£
Kinda cute... dumb as a rock...sometimes dangerous
Same for the "I am not driving my car, I am traveling" lol
it's cute and generally harmless until either money or crazy people get involved
oh god
they always quote the articles of confederation
one little problem with that... it was replaced with this thing called the US Constitution...
In there yapping about maritime law and the judge just just rolling their eyes
I'll tell ya where you're about to travel pal, jail, that's where
i think those people genuinely think they're smart enough to get away with an insanity defense
Also don't forget the resources, time and energy science has to put in, to combat flat earthers.
It never works though. Neither cops or judges take private citizens serious
well it's just that in that case they are quoting things that aren't relevant and haven't been for a very very long time...almost since forever as far as the country goes
Funny thing is even if they had a legit angle they wouldn';t know... heh
too busy chasing the BS one
they do kinda forget that simply existing in this country, like literally every other country in history, subjects you to their laws, whether you like it or not
Yeah.
As soon as somebody tries to lean on the articles of confederation they shouldn't be taken seriously... tbh
reminds me of the americans to go to north korea or russia and are SHOCKED when they're detained for being american
wasn't there a US marine bolting it for the North Korean border as a tourist? Yeah ... Travis King.
yup
What can go wrong π€£
Russia I'd visit... no interest in North Korea
0 interest in either
Honestly I wouldn't even feel safe there
Unless it was a publicised thing where evvvvverybody knows where he's at if he goes missing lol
oh you'd be an even better target then
or detain you for being a WNBA player
From a cultural standpoint, I am interested in all cultures and countries. But if those countries see my as hostile, why would I set foot in there.
Well Russia will... if you have contraband lol
yea when a big part of the culture is "kill your people"....yea, not interested
And they'll you know... enforce their laws
Also, why would I spend my money at a place, that is hostile. You know where the money flows π
yup
I wish bone headed content creators would stop going to countries acting like fools...
Of course in some of those cases... it's working out very badly for them heh
nah, let 'em go. it gets them out of our hair for a while
natural selection π€£
Darwin is still right.
I kept saying that during tide pods
stop warning them, let nature run it's course...
In fact remind them of all the pink cotton candy likely in their attic...
Sorry but if you're past a certain age and dumb enough to eat a tide pod you deserve what's coming...
yea, i can't tell if i've become a bad person for occasionally thinking like that
Well the thing is those types... something is gonna get them
you can't always save them from themselves...
i've definitely moved into the "idc if you kill yourself doing something stupid, just don't take anyone else with you"
play stupid games, win stupid prizes
I've become rather jaded over the years
it's out of our control what 8.2 billion people around the world do.
Kijnda like you... do whatever you want just dont' screw anybody else up in the process
you wanna go screw yourself up, have at it...
But what about tragic accidents like Ocean Gate ... I feel bad for the people who paid for the trip and died. But I feel angery when I hear what choices were made by some people who worked at oceangate. Causing the incident.
I've done a lot of questionable things but I gotta say compared to a lot of what I see I was tame.
dragging the kid along was fucking stupid
I was just good at never getting caught... heh
again, feel free to get yourself killed, but don't kill anyone else along the way
Yeah, but the kid isn't to blame? So I feel empathy for the kid. If that makes sense? But I have harder time feeling empathy for the CEO of oceangate.
And when I first heard about oceangate, my first thought was; "That sounds like a very dumb idea".
I wouldn't wanna go down in that thing, wouldn't have lol
the parent who should have known better, especially as one of the billionaire overlords that always espouse total superiority, and the CEO clearly catering to that crowd while having clear indications beforehand that it was a death trap
Submarines are scary anyhow, ever been on one?
just imaginging being way underwater in that...tube lol
the disneyland one was enough for me
I've been inside the USS Batfish, WWII era
oh god
Question; did any regulation/laws come out of the incident? Did something change in the US when it comes to submarines?
Or is it just business as usual?
Yeah it was in my parents home town, and where my grandparents lived
lol fuck no. company's still around even
Doors for sealing off areas everwhere, most places fairly tight
although not as much as some might imagine... still tight though
Like many places two people cannot pass lol
You would think there is a simple law like; "For commercial submarines, you need to let the submarine be checked by external company that it upholds all regulations".
So things like these, are less likely to happen.
And those guys had to deal with things like enemy torpedoes and depth charges :/
if they were selling them, maybe
Yeah, but I just though. A new law would be made after the incident.
It's one thing to make mistakes (as society). It's another thing to learn from them. And another to prevent.
Aviation has the same sort of shit
I can built the most sus ultralight of all time and go fly it lol
now THAT is the scariest vehicle i've ever been in
As long as I say out of certain airspace... my safety is 100% up to me on that one
airplanes?
one in particular
I had a discussion with Baldur I believe about it. And apparantly, when it comes to deaths, airplanes seem pretty safe.
trying to find the photo
If I had an extra 35 grand sitting around I'd buy an ultralight
They are very safe... still safer than driving
I though airplanes had the most deaths. But not at all. Its boats and trains lol.
On October 2, 2019, a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress privately owned by the Collings Foundation crashed at Bradley International Airport, Windsor Locks, Connecticut, United States. Seven of the thirteen people on board were killed, and the other six, as well as one person on the ground, were injured. The aircraft was destroyed by fire, with only a ...
i flew in this one in 1998
Oh those are great
I am jealous.
Wonderful planes
i didn't have a seat
Not sure why you'd be scared of it lol
The only thing I wouldn't get in, is a jetfighter in the US.
Let me take you up in a dual sea ultra
Because fuck the G's and passing out lol.
you'll feel like you were perfectly safe in that thing hahaha
i mean.........
I want G's
Sleep me pilot... put me down!
And I'm gonna fight it as long as I can
Damn, that recent?
i sat with my back up against the copilot's seat for takeoff/landing, and my foor nearly got caught in the cable spool for the landing gear
Yeah warplanes aren't comfortable π
oh and they opened the bomb bay doors while i was on the catwalk
Nice friends you have.
Think the plane is scary, look at the swath of destruction it can drop
(even with WWII era exposives)
Even with WW2 explosives? You mean that war they used 2 nukes?
Or did you mean WW1?
upper limit is a lot higher, but back then they could still carry 1 tonners
and occasionally a single blockbuster
Speaking of bombs. I want to know if the bunker busters workerd or not π
Because the idea behind it, was very interesting.
probably not
An enemy one of those overhead was not a good sign
Dig deep into the earth, then boom.
becuase your air defense is ineffective and you're about to get pounded hard
And use multiple wasn't stupid either. But I just wonder if it all worked.
Fuck, still interesting concept.
it only works if it destroys both the equipment and the knowledge
Well the knowledge... kinda too late ont hat one
lil bit
We opened pandoras box
lil bit
now we must live with what comes out π
Work for me is;
- Did the bombs dig deep enough? Did they even "dig"?
- If they exploded, did it harm the facility?
- If they used multiple, the timing matters, does it work like they though it worked.
those sites were basically iranian NORAD. good luck actually getting to it
Killing the knowledge, like you said, sounds way harder to me, Because scientists can be anywhere. Even not on the facility.
They might not even be in country... or new people could be imported from allies
yea, we know that NK is cooperating
Good luck on preventing them from having the knowhow part down
and iran will 100% get help from russia these days, just to scare the US
The army was pretty convinced it would work π
In some ways better to have qualified people running it
because... it's not super super hard and a lot of people COULD do it
they just can't do it safely heh
I mean a teenage kid was a hair away from a working reactor that would produce plutionium
it'll work up to a certain depth. but since we've never confirmed how deep those sites are, and the fact that nobody's confirmed that they were hit, that it didn't work
He jst needed more fissile material for fuel
he had SOME urianium lol
How the hell he popped up with uranium in the 90's... who the hell knows
and now we never get to know what those sites are like because iran's not about to let any int'l orgs in
It'd certainly be easier to get now I'd imagine but still not easy
Who knows? Maybe the information is available. But not shared for obvious reasons.
maybe
also we have satellite images of large trucks removing material from Fordo days before the attack
In 20 years we might know. How long it takes for secret files to be made public.
i can top that
If it's even close to as strong as cheyenne mountain...
I mean that place is designed to survive all out nuclear war.. so...
It's a real incarnation of the evil villains mountain lair lol
That would mean Iran has intel on US. And that the US army had that intel, and yet went forward. Which I can see why they did.
makes my conspiracy brain think it was 100% for show
But was anything actually loaded
both sides get to claim victory internally
I think you are right to think like that.
Smoke and mirrors during war.
for all anybody knows the trucks were a ruse to make people think there was nothing there to hit now
SHRUG...
Send somebody over to check...oh wait π
or they got the important stuff out with time to spare, and got them to sites we have no intel on
I mean odds are if trucks were there....
yup
They were loading up anything they'd produced
the initial fuel really doesn't even matter, just enriched shit
or stuff like centrifuges
Yeah anything they'll fit on a truck reasonably quickly
or the isolated computer systems they started using after stuxnet
lots of important stuff you can just chuck into a big dump truck and haul ass outta there with
reminds me of Die Hard 2
no special way to sneak the gold out, just use dump trucks
the fact they did though, that timing.
Or maybe it was becasue they were hauling ass, they bombed it.
Also the media was making out like it was way super hard to move fissile material
in which case, possibly too late
But it's really not...
shockingly, if you don't care about trucks or soldiers, it's surprisingly easy to move
Here sure... regulations nad oversight and blah blah but it can be done quickly and fairly safely on top of it
Even doing it safely isn't really that much effort is the thing
Well I safe safely... relatively safely. Def much more of a chance something goes sideways but still
and like you say if you disregard all of that it's even faster and easier lol
imagine your commander has you handling fuel rods... with no PPE
not sure how far along Iran is on nuclear weapons but I have been around long enough to know this. It's been like fusion energy, it's just right around the corner!
perpetually... since I can remember
they were yapping about the same stuff on TV literally 40+ years ago
They're months away! Days! Years! Who knows!
how are you americans holding up?
none of you got a firework in your digestive system yet i hope
i havent broke anything today... "yet"
i don't do fireworks at all
neighbors do more than enough
just glad my house has concrete roof shingles
This reminds me of Logan Paul going to Japan. That was a huge embarrassment
Too much money tbh... to get good stuff to use
And I think he is a psychopath imo
I mean nothing wrong with blowing money on fireworks I just would rather not at this point in life lol
I just don't like the image it gives of tourists from that country.
At least try to respect your host countries culture...
If somebody invites me in their home I don't go in and wreck it.
When I saw a video of him doing dumb things in Japan, I couldn't watch the whole video because it was so embarrassing
Yes sometimes the secondhand embarrassment is brutal
I mean a big part of me wanting to visit Japan is to experience the CULTURE
The sights and sounds and all that are great too... but yeah
That means waiting 2 hours in line for a good ramen
Plus with asians in general they, in my personal experience, have been among the most respectful and decent people.
Some lady got mad because she kept getting called fat in China
like yeah... they're blunt they aren't being offensive lol
It's called... CULTURE...
Oh yeah. Heard there is no PC in China
They'll say something like 'wow you are fat' and it's just really an observation lol
they aren't trying to be mean or insult you
If you're super tall they'll comment on that too
Wouldn't bother me personally..
"How is the weather up there?" π
Besides another mans words have only the power over you which you grant them. Nothing more.
Long ago I chose to grant no power.
I have a colleague at work that is more who is 2 meters tall and I thought 194 cm was tall lol
I worked with a guy once I'm surprised he didn't have to call into work on a low cloud day due to lack of visibility to drive
I'm short for a male.
I feel sorry for men shorter than me even lol
And I had to help some girl out the other day at the store with the top shelf which I could barely reach lol
but she was like 5' haha
I hate when idiots mock people with dwarfism and talk to them like they are babies
They are just like everyone else except they are shorter
Yeah that's an exception to the short male rule for me
because that's a physical condition thing not just short
i'd trade 15cm of height to get rid of my back problems
Careful what you wish for
I don't have back problems yet but need to work on my posture....
the genie might break your back, making it not hurt
and also making you shorter lol
Sorry I recently re-wartched Wishmaster and that's totally a move he'd do hahah
He also made somebody do something I have wished I could make so many do... literally go fuck themselves
And ya know those first two movies were pretty good I thought... the next two were.... yeah the new guy didn't do it for me in that role
It's like I when I stopped watching The last of us netflix series because one of the main characters died even though he dies in a videogame too lol
A lot of people stopped playing the last of us videogame after that character died. Guess the curse has been transferred to netflix too
Maybe I am too attached to that person
you've gotta do that kind of plot thing right
it basically never works unless it's right at the start or at the end, handing it off to the next person carrying on the legacy
and it has to be handed off to the right person, with good writers to fill it in
Well it's like... I dunno yeah
sometimes somebody is just so good in a role you have to be careful replacing them
or in other cases... ending that character killing them off entirely
They could have replaced the OG guy it's not like he was a brilliant actor or anyhtin but he was really good for that part. And the guy they used as a replacement was just a totally different vibe
I never watched the last of us but i do remember hearing something about that and people dropping out after some character died
i only kept up on (barely) a surface level
But with the Djinn character it would be kinda like for Return of the Jedi replacing Jones with Mr Bean as the voice of Darth Vader lol
Mr. T. I pitty the rebul scum!
I keep hoping to get some more live action Mace acted by Jackson, since one of my favorite actors.
Wouldn't have minded seeing Keanu do some SW stuff too...
he could pass for post order 66, and could conceivably still be alive after the fight
smart thing with Keanu would be to have him play someone older than he is now, so they could use him again in the future
tho he is 60 already
The problem with a post order 66 mace is where are you going to squeeze that into live action, the answer is probably nowhere
heh
yup
I wanted to see Reeves get involved way before now...
doing a miniseries on him getting his purple lightsaber would be great
like prequel era
Reeves is another favorite actor
Keanu just seems like a good human in general...
Ian McDiarmid was 38 when he played the Emperor in RotJ, then got to play him again in 1/2/3, and then 20 years later again in 9
absolutely brilliant
Apparently SWT Vader series will have Mace in it... too bad he's not big enough to pull Jackson for it
...or....is he. (he's not but it would be a shocker if he popped up)
Well for the last one lol good lord
think Witwer could voice him?
π€£
FFS how old was he at that point
who
Palpy McScrotumface
no i mean the character at ep 9
only 4 years older than sam jackson
2019, so 74 there
so then by the time ep 9 tolls around...
ok so... this is saying 80's in a new hope lol
π€£
so by ep9 yeah
no wonder them fingers were basically decayed off lol
Apparently the dark side isn't a pathway to having a functional body?
anger and spite keeps a body alive far longer than it's supposed to. kissinger lived to hit 100
Before the diad realization what was the plan? Kylo couldn't contain his power
Rey maybe...
maybe it was going to make him younger π€£
Well belive me hooking up with Rey would certainly make me feel younger D
classic story of an aging person wanting youth back
Youth is wasted on the young π
i still love that she was just a waitress near Pinewood and someone went "hey, she looks the part"
I'll tell ya who I had a thing for back in the day... Portman
lol
good lordy what a smokeshow
and she's a genius
yeah she can fight, she's smart she's hot
knockout+genius=amazing regardless of age
where are you IRL!
π€£
Ridley is hot too tho
i bet you disney's gonna try to get her to be a force ghost at some point
Oh they gotta right
I'm glad to see Hayden back
I disliked the hate he got back then.... I thought he did well
He was trying to play the pre-suit version of something he had no examples to pull from really
i'm so glad he got a public redemption for actually doing a great job back then. we just didn't see it
What people were calling "wooden" acting was him putting on that vader lkike personality
I dunno I thought he did fine...
I think the first movie overall was very... thin. But it picked up for 2 and 3
he did decently, and Star Wars has never been known for high-tier acting
plus an actor is only as good as the lines they're given, and the direction they're told to deliver the lines
The OG crew were nobodies really outside of a couple of exceptions
Ford was somehwat known then of course... Guinness
carrie fisher was known too, mainly from her mom
Jones was established but juste a VA
Yeah... they were all just getting intot he insustry
Ford blew up...
it was definitely a "let's just fuck around with some scifi stuff" in the start
Hamill did too in a sense... with the VA work
Well he really isn't like a super great actor or anything
oh jeez, 1992
I feel like he was kinda of a perfect for this role guy at thws time heh
oh i think he's a great actor if the writing's good
his joker is incredible
he has the right kind of camp to a role
I recall hearing something about him voicing that character longer than anybody
i've personally never found harrison ford to be a good actor. based on seeing who he is publicly, that's who he is on the screen. that's not acting to me
He's def not a good pilot...
he's a decent pilot, just had a couple incidents
bound to happen at his age & hours
eh, highly public
like passing over a commercial jet landing ona taxiway
they should have pulled his certs right there tbh
at least he put that one down on a golf course, best option in the area
he also did some rescues, that's not bad
the golf course i can overlook... landing on a taxiway... wowzers
oh yea that's dumb
especially when you are flyting OVER a commercial jet that you could have not seen lol
that alone tells you SOMETHING is not right... whther it's you or them it's something
Sometimes the tower makes a mistake and tells a craft to move where it shouldn't but yeah this was just herp derp
2017 should have been enough for the pilot to know to quit
Like honestly even I wouldn't make THAT mistake
And I have 0 certs and minimal experience
in fact where the plane was at it was holding short or moving ontot he runway, I would have not even landed at all at that point and just gone around
yup, just to hopefully avoid the paperwork
Pretty easy to noap out of that one
yeah probably still in trouble but at least you caught it before you flew dangerously close to a jet and landed on a taxiway lol
The ATC communication is funny becaus ehe got the let me know when you can copy a number line
and he was just like im ready lol
dude was breaking out the pen before he came to a stop
idk if that's better or worse than landing at the wrong airport
or overflying your destination by like...
and hour+
"gee honey i don't remember this flight taking this long...."
please
its cold like 10 months of the year
it's 40 here
its enough
C
They dont survive
we just don't go outside unless it's early in the morning
when it's a nice cool 35
π€£
Just wear a ac suit
we do have those
i mean its been hitting 30s here during the afternoons but like its not that unreasonable
30C is my room on a regular day
yea i keep the thermostat at 27
mine's the kind that's always kinda on, just at a low level
same here 20.5 at lowest level
but unfortunately that means it cant overpower my pc so my rooms stays hot and everywhere else stays cold and its anoying
oh yea my pc definitely challenges it
so i put the cpu on eco mode & throttled my 4090 to 350W
it'll definitely be a nice heater in the winter
mine surprisingly hasent been
ac is clearly ifghting more this time
or me flipping my fans helped store more of the heat instead of disipating it
since my pc is exhausting a lot less
you know a pc is a nice heater once you start being able to measure its power consumption in horsepower
its just regurgitating its own air
i'm kinda tempted to do that to keep the pc on the hot side, but the room on a bit colder
honestly its not even running any hotter so idk what kind of black magic i managed to pull off but yea its probably a good idea especially with that 4090 you have
checks thermostat
room temp rn is 24 cause i cranked the ac erlier
yep 76F...
lemme guess, intel cpu?
yeeep
eco mode my cpu tops out at 90W
no longer on intel defaults so locked clocks at 220W baybeeee
Speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed
think that voltage might be a bit low?
i do find it incredible that you can run a couple of games & a browser with a fuckton of tabs open on something nowhere near top end these days
it's sometimes hitting 190ish
Lemme try cine
i'm legit afraid to run those
shit i thought i had it installed
i've also managed to only unplug the fire hazard once since i got it
and that's because i was a dumbass
prime dosent hit as hard
yeah i know that's why im installing cinebench
do it! do it!
maybe with some custom settings prime does more i dunno, but the max power/heat setting built in isn't THAT stressful
heh with the multi core cpu test im using less power than with prime
abpout 165ish
sometimes bouncing up to 170-171
that $50 360 AIO from thermalright is incredible
i have been slightly tempted to waterblock the 4090
I'm glad I went AIO this time... even though there are great air coolers
i cant get my gpu over 60 half the time lol
