?
you bought a cpu to troubleshoot?
id just send it back
well it was just 12$ for that trouble shoot cpu
amd 5 5600x was Faulty sending it back soon..
oh ok, didnt expect that to be so cheap
well someone wanted to free space
so yea
PC now running
is
amd 3 2200g with RX 6600
Why don't all MFA sites do it like this.. Its much easier than having to find my phone everytime I want to login.. Duuh..

If my PC shuts down randomly and the event viewer shows a kernel power even (so power loss?) should i be worried?
happened 3 times this year, and at first i contributed it to some Power issues, where power is down for a split second and trips up the pc.
I didnt see my light flicker and its in the same socket
but could that also be a sign of a bad powersupply?
if it is, how would i tell the difference.
Yes, PC shutting down on grid glitch is bad PSU that doesn't have enough bulk capacitance.
And that kind of shutdowns can cause file system and/or data corruption if something was being written at that time.
Your PC is on the brink of explosion, you better run before it levels your building
its a 2 year old 1000w Seasonic, so i still got 8 years of warranty left
i was not doing anything heavy, just coding
Ok, so if not light flickering, then probably not grid glitch sourced, didn't read correctly.
Shuts down and needs to be powered back on?
Or resets?
hmm, the monitors im not too sure off.
but i think the desklamp i use did not noticeably flicker.
completely shut down
had to press the start button
So PSU protection, or MB protection.
i tihnk the first time it happend it did turned itself on again.
but not the last 2 times
I've done "a bit of coding" during the practical part of my bachelor's degree - couple hundred lines of VBA to automate a CSV analysis.
Safe to say, any time I made my code run the analysis from the very beginning, my laptop was essentially frozen for half an hour
So "just coding" can be an incredibly high load depending on the size of your project and the skill of the coder
well yeah, but its my degree project that i started on TODAY... so not that much going on yet
YET
it wont be anything heavy, pretty much just some frontend with very little going on in the backend
But no easy way to tell if it is PSU protections tripping, or motherboard protections tripping.
well on that, i did just upgrade to a new CPU and mainboard.
it happened both before and after
would that not make it less likely to be the mainboard?
Yes.
i gotta pay more attention to the monitors next time it happens.
im realy not sure if they stayed on or turned off
no work was lost at least
Holy fuck, I just remembered back to one of my uni projects, having to use design patterns n shit
I didn't realize how much y'all were carrying me through that assignment
my system is incapable of drawing over 700w
On MB end, too high VRM temperatures, or actual VRM output going too high because of swings, or some CPU temperatures hitting shutdown limit (instead of just throttle limit) can cause MB to shut the PSU down fast.
etc.
On PSU end it is stuff like overcurrent, short circuit, overtemperature etc. that are monitored and cause trip if needed.
im assuning what it readsas the graphics temp is the CPU temp
And it can also be that the monitoring is reading wrong and trips below the intended limit etc.
IOD temperature, not CCD.
dont got anything installed for that, but case has airflow and isnt clogged by dust
so temps should be fine
what was that program again
HWiNFO
But more likely that the PSU has some kind of protection monitoring failure that makes one trip at way too low level.
In this case.
i dont see anything odd
CPU is undervolted, but since it was also happening on the old CPU/mobo i dont tihnk that its the issue
Would cause crashes and reboots AFAIK, not shutdowns.
But basically the logical sources at this point would be intermittent short duration shorts in something that was in both systems.
And some PSU protection limit being too low because of manufacturing fault or like.
if it happens again ill open a support ticket at Seasonic, surely they can walk me through some steps
cables bent too sharp probably
Ah, I did hit case with my own CPU that just right negative Curve Optimizer caused the MB protections to trip and shut the system down in some specific swing load test.
As it probably caused the VRM output to start oscillate because of just the right VCore request swings.
or you know, the obvious, that untested undervolt you did
if i want to treat you like you treat me
you assume its untested
Was able to trigger it three times, and went away with different offset.
For both more and less offset.
i could look for some sharp bends in ables
if you cant even name basic monitoring tools you did NOT test an undervolt
there is not just one way of testing
and there is the context
you seem to have a history on here of doing stupid shit to hardware
i dont
Speaking of doing stupid shit to hardware...
I wanted to build a new PC and wanted it to look striking. Not being a big RGB fan (of big RGB fans) I cast around for inspiration and decided on something... unique.
Inspiration and current progress. This is just the front case, the rear is still being painted, but everything is wired up and functional.
(It's stupid because the case is just barely big enough to fit a mini ITX system in. The fans are only 60mm. Cable management is effectively impossible. It's gonna be a hot boi.)
The PC case is a HEAVILY modified case from a piece of medical equipment from my work. The Geiger counter would be just about big enough to fit a raspberry pi in
ngl tho i'd probably 3d print the geiger counter casing, that way i could put proper mounts in it & ventilation
oh it's one of the little ones 🤣
i'd shoot for one of the ones that's a bit smaller than a shoebox
This is what the case I'm using came from
plus i'd hate to wreck an old classic piece of hardware like that
oh god, now i wanna see a PC built in an 80s boombox
Do it lol
🤣
now those there's enough left that i wouldn't mind modding one for that
having dual 200mm fans instead of speakers
I mean to be fair, wrecked CD Geiger counters aren't too rare either. They're about twenty bucks from surplus places or eBay
yea but i'd want to cheat and have easy mounts instead of welding or soldering 🤣
Naaaaaah the soldering is the fun part!
If I don't get to solder then what even is the point...
AMEN
Find those responsible and ensure that they suffer.
Imagine having a priceless tech artifact just fall outta your wall
Like I was saying about that Hendrix Fuzzface pedal... it was stolen and somewhere out there somebody might have something worth 10's of thousands (or more) sitting in a box and no idea what it even really is
yea, wish i'd randomly come across a minor miracle like that
think the only thing remotely in that domain is a phonograph
sadly no needle, but i do have a couple cylinders for it
My grandmother had something I always thought was cool, one of those old console record player/radios
Sounded great too
At one point I could have gotten it if I could have gotten halfway across the country. She left it to my uncle and he had to move and needed to get rid of it.
But I was dealing with random trips to ER with stomach bleeders and a ton of scheduled stuff since I'd recently been diagnosed and there was just no way I could get out there
My grandmother and my uncle kept that thing in CHERRY condition too, when my grandmother passed it still looked and worked like new.
or get hands on some great stuff like ruler with roller so u can draw lines | | lines no issue
and draw angles
thsi bad boy
but My younger sister destroyed it
...
Fact is a lot of folks are capable, if they wanted to, to repair a lot of stuff themselves.... if they could get the damned parts and not get locked out by other schemes.
Lack of parts, lack of schematics...
Reminds me of this talk
https://youtu.be/8OB2NqcSDXQ
https://media.ccc.de/v/38c3-we-ve-not-been-trained-for-this-life-after-the-newag-drm-disclosure
You've probably already heard the story: we got contracted to analyze a bunch of trains breaking down after being serviced by independent workshops. We reverse engineered them and found code which simulated failures when they detected servicing attem...
And no matter what without replacement you will end up at the mercy of that battery.
Polish train manufacturer creating a bunch of measures to prevent third party repairs
Shit like GPS-based shutdowns for the onboard systems
When the pilot becomes unresponsive, the plane takes over.
Captain Steeeve reacts to VASAviation’s coverage of the HondaJet’s successful certification test of Garmin’s Emergency Autoland system — a feature that allows the jet to autonomously detect pilot incapacitation, communicate with ATC, and land itself safely at a nearby airport.
...
Pilot(s) incapacitated... it's alllll good.
The AI will just find the best airports and start broadasting to control
...what a time to be alive
Garmin avionics contain that kind of thing already in some models, and they have been triggered in real use already.
A lot of folks won't like it but eventually AI's will be doing the entire regular flights
Been there basically for long time already?
Including autoland capability?
Pilots are there basically as backup mostly in reality.
They do a lot still but as far as the majority of time int he sky it's just waypoint to waypoint
they are turning knobs from time to time...
Yes, they are currently needed to switch between modes and phases.
that's why if i do a long haul in flight sim i gotta skip parts because it's just... doing nothing lol
Which on any modern fly-by-wire plane wouldn't be needed with some extra basic programming, no AI needed.
maybe an alt change... heading change once in awhile -yawn- lol
i don't see how they don't just constantly fall asleep
Been cases where that has happened.
that has happened... but im surprised it doesn't happen more. Like those guys that overshot the airport big time
oops
That's the type of shit that gets a fighter jet next to you...
And the last thing you want to hear right after you land is "let me know when you can copy a number"
means you gotg some splainin to do
That Harrison Ford ATC exchange is funny because he knew it was coming, already had a pen ready heh
lol
Yeah it could be me... flying your plane
from right where im sitting...
I do know how to take a 747 from dark to cruise
landings usually go fairly well 🙂
Flying a functional plane in IFR is much much easier thing than autonomous car for example.
And when a plane declares emergency, it is ATCs job to direct everyone else away from the plane, no matter what that plane does.
The pilots have been in there basically just in case the plane goes to less than fully functional for long time.
And at some point even the big airlines will be going to single-pilot operations.
But don't worry they'll give me at least a couple dozen hours training I'll have the landings nailed by then for sure. You'll be fine.
But not there yet, not because of technology, but because of pilot resistance etc.
Basically automation, one pilot, possible emergency remote pilot option as fallback if both of previous fail.
But basically at this time, whenever stuff goes to shitter, there often is too much workload even for two pilots.
Only very old ones that haven't had cockpit upgraded.
As engine monitoring took full persons job.
Got a question regarding electric stuff. I'm building an N-gauge layout and have a digital decoder that has a 3A/16V output for power supply. If I strap a fitting cable to it and put a power distributor at the end, I can supply power to multiple spots at the layout, yes? (I know I have to isolate power blocks to avoid power shorts)
Don't ask me.
(Absolutely do take that advice from me)
Is this the Brittish Rail Road channel? :P
Has anyone figured how to turn off the ping sound yet? I thought maybe with 1.1 we'd be able to adjust/change/turn off the ping sound. I see other people complaining it messes with their dogs too. I'd even be open to checking out a mod if it is a solution.
perma dnd mutes any sounds from discord. Does discord even have a ping sound?
Reread the message
Alt clicked to the wrong channel i see?
Anyone else getting those cringe Temu ads with AI voice all the time?
Sometimes I watch them only to laugh how bad they are
Now they promise to give you a tablet for 100$ if you install their app and claim the tablet has "5G HD" display
First time I've heard of 5G display 🤣
I also read scary stuff from cybersecurity experts regarding Temu app so there is no way I am going to install their app even if they give me free products
As that G in 5G just comes from generation.
Also, if they give you something for free, it means you are the product
These days you still end up being a product even if you paid for the product that's going to produce you
😄
Unfortunately, yes
But on completely different note, I today bought almost kilogram of baking soda for car repair.
I'm a pretty decent product...
Lol
Must be wanted level
So helicopters are in the air already?
You really want to hijack that tank?
Funny thing is... I never played GTA V
Cleaning seats?
So what? Has been a thing since GTA 1 IIRC.
Neutralizing rust converter acid.
borrrrring!
baking soda + cyanoacrylate is great for all sorts of repairs...
wtf
Only professional users dealing with agriculture can buy it
And I would rather get something actually meant for stuff that try to use filler + superglue...
I'm waiting on Make a AI Slop Simulator Simulator so it's come full circle
Sometimes Baldur
you can't get a part... one has to be molded
Meant actual epoxy based filler materials.
Some parts A) aren't replacable and never were or B) you won't find... ever
And for those things it works great
It's not like the people who use it aren't aware of other substances that exist that do similar things
Did some quick research. You need to take 20 hour lessons on safe use of pesticide, pass the exam and then they give you a card so you can buy a weed killer
Because the stuff is toxic?
Yeah. I suspect there were a lot of incidents in the past and the government now requires you to pass the exam
I could get 55 gallon drums of it...
You could have bought them without a license in the past
And might just be for some of the types, not all.
Probably. Weed killer belongs to herbicide category and they won't sell it to anyone without a license
People here do tend to mishandle it however it's almost always in a way thst's only dangerous to them...
Personally handling anything that can be a health risk I'm gloving up minimum and probably wearing a mask
Whenever my neighbor is annoying, I come out with this in order to scare him
When people see a pump spray, they stay away from you because you usually use a pump spray for something toxic
"it's just herbal tea" - proceeds to spread fermented hallucinogens
Your neighbors would be in fear of me on a regular basis... I use a pump sprayer around the yard on a regular basis

They've move in and never step foot outside again
Some weeds need to die... like the ones that come up between the driveway slabs
if you just let that go it looks terrible and will do damage to the driveway... easiest cure it spraaaaay
That's exactly what I almost always use pump sprayer for
Like I'm sure there are other ways to deal with that... but I don't know any that work well personally
or aren't a lot of work....
I could remove weed and grass by hand but after 30 minutes, my knees are killing me
that and these are in a crack and some of them are so well rooted you can't even get them out of the ground
I grabbed one and disloged it'd grip running down the inside of the crack and there was no way I could have pulled tha tout of the ground, the plant would break
I am more concerned of my neighbor's new Midea AC considering they have quality issues
Heard Midea recalled almost 2 million units in USA because of mold exposure
Surprised that doesn't happen more often
I've seen other brands that have major mold issues
black mold is a big no no
When I remove weed by hand, I also use this which helps me a lot
I have something... similar
I think next year I'm going to rent a tiller and prep a much larger area
Perfect for removing moss
I like gardening my fruits and vegetables and such
I have a greener thumb with some things than others... some I just know a whole lot more about.
Wish Mitsubishi was selling wall AC units where you can easily clean blower wheel. This model on the picture allows you to open vertical vanes
And that's really the problem. Most mini splits and portables are nye impossible to clean properly
You can't get to places you NEED to get to without taking it partially apart which folks aren't going to fool with
Sadly, you can't do this on my model without removing plastic frame and slightly bending heat exchanger so you can pull out the blower wheel
Yeah see lol
Almost nobody is going to fool with that
That easy access system is something they should all have
All companies that offer AC cleaning will remove the blower wheel but they will charge you more though
Regular cleaning includes cleaning the filter, condenser and heat exchanger while deep cleaning includes removing blower wheel
Fortunately I'm mostly all central heat/air and that unit you can get in there and get to anything/everything
[updated 1/24/2018: Legal disclaimer added]
In this Tech Tips video, Jeff demonstrates how to remove the blower wheel from one of our indoor units.
In a hot attic but whatever,
I learned how to remove blower wheel by myself btw. Observed the people cleaning the AC and watched some videos online 🙂
Saved me a lot of money
Also bought an AC bag for rinsing the AC with water last year but you need to be extra careful which pressure washer to use
You need low water pressure in order to avoid heat exchanger damage
Because most remote garage door openers are very insecure?
Hope you aren't using an outdated garage door motor which works on the military frequency
I had a motor from a company called genius and it kept opening on several occasions because it worked on the same frequency used by the military
Wtf
he called by i forgot and left my phone on mute
Oh
No biggie
Thought he was breaking in lol
nah he's got the code... and keys to the front door
I don't trust my neighbor unfortunately. He keeps eavesdropping all the time and constantly watches what I do
glad i have good neighbors now
no busy bodies with nothing better to do than be in everyone elses business...
Funniest part is if he sees me with a lawn mover, he immediately rushes to grab his to mow the lawn
Apparently, me having a nice cut grass is pissing him off 🤣
How do I change oneui7 battery icon to the old one that actually shows %
Had software update for Galaxy Tab today but mine shows both the percentage and battery icon
Not sure if I have One UI 7 though
Nvm: my tablet is not supported
Only thing I can think of is downloading icons pack
Can't believe you need to root your device these days to change icons. Like, what's wrong with letting users change their icons....
i don't understand why they need to change icons every other update.
Find those responsible and ensure that they suffer...
Probably to make an illusion they made some "changes" in the update
Official statement: "One UI 7.0 reinvented this segment for an interactive user experience. When we talk about interactivity, it generally redirects to the touch response, but the new battery icon gave interactiveness a new definition with dynamic transformations." 😐
I still have mine... for now
got one of those overly uwu people in another server, and a few others are poking fun at it
i'm trying to deescalate it with depressing gifs
already hit em with Artax
Why did that embed as a video???
I don't use gifs
i moved on to "he can't see without his glasses!"
because its a mp4
Love me some bloat
That's exactly how mine looks like atm
I got oneui7 forced down my throat... and Im furious.
Cant wait...
I've ROG phone 5 from 2021. The fingerprint sensor on it works like one of fifty times.. maybe need to replace
Other than that it works well, the large battery too
Cleaned the screen, deleted all the fingerprints and re added 3 fingers from each hand but still does not detect corretly. Guess there not much to do, maybe try some screen polish over the sensor?
Got nothing on that one
ok who made the decision to make chat timelines go up, but social media threads go down
Ux designer that uses a ruler to measure pixels.
Don’t think UX Designer was a thing in the IRC era
What I’m saying is.. Social Media is wrong :P
And that "old rolls up" is just result on how text consoles worked on HW level.
At least its not Left to Right or diagonal or something
Coming from how normal paper text has worked for ages.
I've seen UX designers looking and measuring on THEIR laptop screen that a webpage looks correct.
Even checking the pixel color (no calibtation on the screen color was made btw) just that it looks "correct".
So happy Im not working in frontend as a daily driver.
So yes, I have a grudge against UX people.
I'd rather have a UX designer give me off-putting colors than have to navigate three unintuitive menus cuz nobody bothered to take the end user's perspective
This just screams... Works fine on my system
Its working fine on my Netscape Navigator..
Baldur, did James Webb discover something recently?
Because some AI generating YT video popped up. About a big discovery, lights on proxima B. But I find videos about that from 2 years ago.
Honestly, YT is such a mess with these science videos.
wait. screenshots otw.
been going on for like a month so i have no idea anymore
i just assume all new science shared online is a lie
especially when its clickbaited like this
but what was seemingly said by supposedly nasa themselfs was concentrated artificial light that likely isent natural
saw this week how drones are being used to make videos about "alien objects in the sky".
drone + fishing line + shiny alien looking object + camera = alien video.
weird people
Yeah, those are not from James Webb...
there are not real either.
Doubt, would be all over the news if that was the case.
been on NASA page for a bit scrolling through pictures.
It kinda is? (on scamming websites) 😛
the nearby future; only wikipedia and NASA websites are to be trusted.
well, wikipedia is under fire though.
I am happy that the editors (for now) were able to halt it.
Mmm
I read that some editors were worried about the credibility of wikipedia articles.
Also, you read about the latest experiment they did with AI?
During pre-release testing, Anthropic asked Claude Opus 4 to act as an assistant for a fictional company and consider the long-term consequences of its actions. Safety testers then gave Claude Opus 4 access to fictional company emails implying the AI model would soon be replaced by another system, and that the engineer behind the change was cheating on their spouse.
In these scenarios, Anthropic says Claude Opus 4 “will often attempt to blackmail the engineer by threatening to reveal the affair if the replacement goes through.”
No doubt Wikipedia credibility is worsen after AI.. But it has always been something you shouldn't rely on..
wdym, not rely on?
The information on wikipedia could be written by anyone..
you know how it works right?
By any chance, have you completed high school?
Well I could sign up for Wikipedia now - start editing a random page of my own choice.. And start contribute whatever I want..
But that doesn't matter here to explain.. Go trust the information on Wikipedia blindly, i couldn't really give a f... about that :)
Ok 👍 Feels a bit like a bait. So not gonna bite.
It wasn't.. But I just signed up to Wikipedia.. opened a random site, that wasn't written yet.. And can begin write whatever I want
That was basically my point.. If i want to write a page about the moon made out of cheese, i could do that..
Anyhow - as said, feel free to use Wikipedia as a reliable source, I don't really care
Wikipedia has a lot of tools for the reader to use to check credibility of article.
So that's 3 things already that one can check to see if article is quality or not.
Yes, but thats being critical about the source - meaning you don't trust whats written on Wikipedia, without checking out the source of information..
And because its referencing to a source - that site could be bogus as well..
- You can check the sources.
- You can check the discussions between editors.
- You can check the changes made to the page.
- You can check if anyone can add or it's semi-protected or even different.
- You can check it is considered a featured article.
I grew up with encylopedia's. Those were also written by differrent people who I did not know. Wikipedia is just that, but online.
While I do understand the point you are trying to make, I believe it's way more nuanced than that.
I know Wikipedia has tools to verify..
Sadly not many knows how to use it..
Usually somehow the same people who also blindly trust whatever Trump say on Social Media..
I understand where you coming from 🙂 But may I be so bold to claim; it doesn't sound like a wikipedia issue.
It sounds like an issue with some of the readers that use wikipedia 😉
Its the same Trust but Verify you have to use when reading the News
I don't think Wikipedia has any il intent and does it's best to provide accurate information on the internet.
And I also think, it's one of the best sources on the internet.
Well has always been taught from late elementary school when Wikipedia was launched, till end of education..
If you're writing a thesis or assignment on something - and Wikipedia is listed as your only source - its most likely getting an F
100%. We had to use multiple sources.
Videos, books, internet, wikipedia etc.
No way my thesis passed with only wikipedia 😄
but neither would my thesis pass if my source was: google or ChatGPT.
Or 1 book so 🤷♂️
Naturally Wikipedia has also done a lot to provide the tools to ensure the validity of the information - the site is close to 25 years old..
Indeed, in the context of the internet, and what other websites are doing (or rather not doing, listening sources etc), wikipedia is solid in my book.
It even has a whole peer review system so.
Imo wikipedia is just about the coolest thing on the internet
Either that or youtube is probably the greatest single store of human knowledge
And one of them is not owned by google
@night girderlol my parents spent a fortune on our encyclopedia set
thats not all bad since you can still acess information without a conection to the web
and im sure most people dont have a full up to date local download of the entirety of wikipedia on the ready
i sure as heck dont
As of early 2025, Wikipedia contained roughly 6.9 million articles with over 4.7 billion words. Combined, these words are an estimated 110 Gigabytes of text.
Actually not that bad.
As of August 2023, there were over **400 terabytes of images, videos, and other media **in Wikimedia to support Wikipedia.
Anyone that wants to use Wikipedia as a source has to treat it like any other potential source.
Wikipedia is actually BETTER because anyone can make edits - if an encyclopedia has a mistake, you won't ever see it changed unless you constantly buy the newest revision.
At which point: put the encyclopedia online to make revisions update live and allow anyone who spots a mistake to either report it or change it themselves.
ta-daa, we just re-invented the concept of Wikipedia
Hell, your argument about AI even stronger undermines the credibility of published scientific papers - if it's not caught upon publication, it will remain public forever
iirc there's a specific word that primarily shows up in AI generated papers because of one paper in the training data that was scanned and the auto-detection concatenated two words accidentally
Yep, there are several things like that
Yeah, there are quite a few people that actually keep wikipedia backups
The wild thing is that's only 1-2 dozen archival tape reels
Greatest store of human knowledge can fit in a cardboard box on archival tape
pong
I'm trying to get back to the talk about 48GB stick being better
and also remember what bad thing people were saying about zentiming
saying that some other tool is now more accurate or something
wasnt it hardware monitor that got better at ram details ?
HW monitor cant even get usages right yet alone anything advanced

Haha, that's nice 😄
Now if I had the Oxford English Dictionary set from 1989 it would be complete.
They worth a lot?
The encyclopedias are not. I had gotten them for free.
The OED however, costs over $1000 USD.
Oof.
I tried to buy the OED on Amazon once. I had gotten scammed by them when they sent one book when I paid for the full 20 volumes.
The bank took good care of them.
It is important to document large orders and take pictures when dealing with things like this.
Pictures of the box, what you ordered, receipts, and all of that.
Made a striped volume in Windows using a couple of mismatched SATA SSD's. Def way faster than a single lol
first summer with the new PC & man does it cook
think i might be one of the few people with a 4090 that's going to throttle it down to like 300W 🤣
speaking of
ok, super dumb question
do any testers underclock GPUs to see how much performance they lose relative to the power reduction?
Starship blew up before a static fire
the size that is, it's kinda in tiny-nuke territory
I hate when that happens
wasn't even during the startup from the look of it
it just went boom
i'd say every window in about 4km is blown out
or 10km
I remember when that yahoo busted the sound barrier and it rattled windows where i lived
oh wow the top of it ripped open
and that happened quite a ways off lol
out of nowhere the walls were shaking and a bam
Ah well at least I wasn't close enough to lose any glass haha
i grew up near 3 air force bases, so i remember them doing that all the time
We have a lot of military air activity not far from here
plus the fucking idiot in his ultralight that flew too close to our nuclear plant and triggered F16's out of tucson
I used to watch the planes take off and land in Panama (the country). We had access to the AFB's... which are gone now
Also seen the canal, it's nuts how they can lift those ships up or set them down
i keep kinda hoping that they add in that 2nd canal they've been talking about for like 20 years
I haven't kept up with the upgrades... I know they can do larger ships now
When we'd go to the lake you could see all those containers and other ships passing through the lake
Also jungles are a bit scary lol
we weren't taught in school that it's not just a single channel
Yeah it's a whole network
the locks, rivers, lakes
Had to get outside the city to get to a decent beach but once you got out enough man there were some nice ones
There was one were a small river came out of the jungle near the beach and pooled up then trickled down to the ocean. Was rocks on the side you could jump off of... becuase YOLO
Seriously though it was way more than deep enough at that spot
yea i'm too much of a desert rat to try that 🤣
I was running around the beach catching crabs and shell searching
Then that night I had a nightmare that these BIG crabs were after me lol
like imagine large dog size crabs... dozens of them... and angry at you
which end lol
the north side looks like it has 2 systems, 3 channels total
south side has a second system but it's not complete in the sat photo
so it has 2 channels
that other one might be done now SHRUG
Looks like it was very close when this was taken.... needed some support buildings and shit for the tugs
That whole thing is a modern marvel
and something that was badly needed
Well they have to be channels like that so it cna't just be one big lane
And it can't stop the flow of traffic in existing locks
Also gonna have ships going both directions
Still better than the existing and it's almost there already
The river width itself might become a problem too honestly with those super huge ones
right north of the southern locks it gets narrow, not a ton of wiggle room even for the current largest ships
you can see where it narrows more there
that one is almost at that fork for the southerns
Those things are crazy big... I used to unload those containers sometimes
they look so... tiny there lol
Well I don't know if the larger ones willf it in the river safely or not
I'd have to guess maybe not if that isnt' even the biggest if they finish that other setup
They never imagined ships like this when they started building it heh
Engineering!
And I feel exhausted when "unboxing" 24 tons of excavator bucket teeth from a just one container that arrived from China
Yikes
I used to have "container day" where we'd have to unload anywhere from one to several of those... and it was a sloppy mess.
Lots of large replacement parts for farm and industrial equiepment
Pics from another supplier but the shipments look like this
Some stuff was crated or on skids but there was also a lot of odd shaped stuff
We had some big marble slabs come in that were being used at an arena being built downtown. Would have been easy on that one except the crates were blocked together so somebody had to climb int here and knock them apart.
that green thing looks like it slides on a rail
and it was about 97F outside that day so you can imagine inside a container sitting int he sun
yea it was 114 here today
I only have this to unload. Long pallet forks, chains and straps to pull them out. And when returning the container, they want it super clean.. or few hundred € cleaning fine.
Oh and I handled a huge painting going to Elton John (who has a place in Atlanta)
Yes, every manufacturer of those have their own patents for easy, toolless replacement of those wear parts. Thats called Esco Super V, its kinda threaded into place, and then locked by wedges that completely hide inside protected. We consider it one the good ones
http://www.industrysearch.com.au/Products/viewrecord.aspx?ID=22627
ESCO Super V-superior Bucket Tooth System
ROYLANCE'S - The Super V bucket tooth system also known as the 'twist on' provides superior performance, ease of use, long wear life and an obvious value for money.

...
oh it's a tooth
You can't handle the toof!
the slider on it threw me off, i'm used to seeing the teeth that just sheathe on and use a monster set screw
Yea soo many different styles and preferences by customers too. CAT J series and Advansys are common for us, Esco is more popular in really heavy stuff
Hynix 24Gb M-die clocks better than Hynix 16Gb M or A-die.
ZenTimings is still the gold standard, but uses vulnerable driver.
HWiNFO now can show almost all the same information, but not all.
ZenTimings vs. HWiNFO (not exact same latencies in use, need to go back to the tight ones)
Where you can then see most of the voltages in the HWiNFO sensors side, but some specific ones aren't visible.
And those memory controller impedance settings etc. aren't visible.
And the BGS and GearDown Mode settings aren't visible in HWiNFO anywhere either.
The problem with that vulnerable driver is that it doesn't get disabled or uninstalled while ZenTimings isn't running.
But is fully active always after first ZenTimings run on that Windows install, unless you manually hunt it down in Device Manager and uninstall it.
Alienware assemblers again being trained properly (NOT):
yea, i like how steve talks about all the other heavy investments they've made in specialized tooling
meanwhile they can't do one of the simplest but most important screws right
especially on a system that people will buy because "it's a Dell", and they either can't or don't want to be bothered with doing their own pc maintenance
And even hidden under big heatsink, so you don't know until the SSD has solder fail and it stops working,.
yea, to me if you find something that bad it's an instant return & failing grade for the entire product
it's not like they put it in a secondary ssd slot or something
to me it's worse than not including an ssd at all
and like steve said, super disappointing to do it to a 4TB one
Steve not knowing how those fan rubber mounts work and are used...
iirc there's a couple different styles of those, and i think he was talking about the other type
but also, ngl cheap ass rubber fan mounts on a $5200 system is just a dick move
Better than screws for vibrations etc.
And more expensive and labour intensive.
yea but rubber in a lot of environments isn't going to last
i've seen those fail in a year where i am
for $1500 premium they could use screws & rubber spacers or something 🤣
Rubber that hopefully lasts. 🥹
Its mainly for sound supressing, but also handles large boulders better thans steel lining
if i ever get enough money to build my own house, i'm gonna have floating walls in it
also better windows
for fun? or does your house flood on the regular?
look up floating walls
I am planning to pay someone to make a main electrical project for solar panels this year and hopefully get a permit for installation
whoo!
But I might install solar panels next years though. I want to get a permit until the end of the year because of a new law which will get rid of net metering
If you get permit until decemeber, you can use net metering for the next 10 years
yea, permit now
Basically, you are using the grid as a "battery" instead of buying a battery
I think 5 kW should be enough for my house
My house is around 120 square meters if you count the garage and the outer walls are insulated
If I didn't insulate the walls 10 years ago, my bills would be 2x higher by now
good insulation & HVAC is 100% required here in phoenix
this house has underground air returns, which keeps the bill sane
a lot of houses here still have the returns going through the attic, which can easily hit 60C
what region are you in?
Croatia, continental part
ah right
Wish I was on the coast
it's supposed to be 46C here tomorrow
Highest I experienced was around 40 degrees
Out of all places, you live in a desert 😅
all we really have is heat
At least you aren't living in central Australia, people who live there are cooked
no earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, flooding
well, occasional flooding. but we know where that happens
gloves are in the car not for the cold, but the heat 🤣
Imagine living in Florida where you have natural disasters almost each year
you can definitely burn yourself on the seat belt or steering wheel
been there a couple times. 0 desire to ever go back
I was once pulling new cat6 cables for the cameras outside the house during summer. Been outside for 4 hours and burned my neck really good
without sunscreen i'll start to burn in 15 minutes here
Not to mention I have pale skin
yea i've got the northern euro ancestry too
definitely not built for here
it's tolerable tho if you know the rules
im jealous
i gotta be honest i dont think id ever trade 20C for 46C lmao, grew up in california desert and i do not miss the 40C+ summers
yeah, no reason to be jealous of 40C+ temps
+15°C and tomorrow is the main summer festival/holiday in Finland
idk maybe MagicZ has some crazy lizard genetics and 46 feels amazing
Seems like it's not snowing ❄️ atleast
sounds like perfect festival weather!
id like atleast 30+
not necesairely 46
and no more rain
also completely unrelated but i found the first failure point in the B580
the video encoders
there not programed to leave any spare processing so if the 3D is maxed the encoder takes a shit and dies
the main thing great about Arc?
Meanwhile me. 20C too hot.
Me sleeping in 32C
you... need help
Intel firing 20% of it's employees (again).
“These are difficult actions but essential to meet our affordability challenges and current financial position of the company. It drives pain to every individual,” Intel manufacturing Vice President Naga Chandrasekaran wrote to employees Saturday. He said the company is targeting job reductions between 15% and 20%, with most of the cuts taking place in July.
... blablablabla.
And just in their fabs this time?
So up to 20% of actual production workers are being fired.
When fab workers had already complained that the efficiency is down because of too few workers on the actual line.
Short term thinking, good to please investors.
Yup, but in Intels mind. This is to keep company alive or something, lol.
And Nvidia is releasing a RTX 5090DD in China with different GPU and VRAM.
To avoid export rules. The logic ...
American tech is going balastic atm.
Might of course be that Intel is mothballing some of the fabs completely and consolidating remaining production.
Because they don't just have demand for them all anymore?
I wonder where they will close, EU or US.
helpp does anybody know how to dicreasess fan speed
thats my pc and when ever i join a game the fans wont stop working i tryed armory crate but it didnt work can someone help me
Image
Fan control
if it dosent detect any fans then throw the pc down the stairs and dont buy it again
Problem is that the cooling cannot keep up with the CPU power at full 190W, so all the fans ramp to 100%.
Very common with prebuilts.
i regret geting a prebuild
i dont doubt it but maybe check temps
there might be some slight window to just turn down the fan curves ever so slightly
Was also thinking this. One might be able to set it less aggressive with the risk of frying your systrem.
You could also look into better silent cooling solutions.
That software has gotta be one of the worst malwares I ever installed voluntarily
Which might not work due to non-standard case design and/or limited compatibility
Doubt. There is a lot of different cooling solutions. In all sizes, forms, loud, silent etc.
But you might be right, just doubt that it's the case.
And in some prebuilts from the big manufacturers the cooler mounting is proprietary.
Like no backplate or like, just standoffs from the case into MB holes, which might not be at standard positions.
Well we don't know that? Making assumptions...
Only way to know is for apexassin to check all that out. Who knows. It's a possibility.
Which was the point of Fireworkers, that IF the specific computer uses nonstandard coolers, there might be nothing that can be gotten.
Can you give me example of how a mobo with "cooler mounting is proprietary."
And Asus is one that has used that standoffs from MB tray solution before.
afaik, the cooler is attached to mobo.
So did they change the mobo so only their cooler fits?
Cases like Dell and Asus have used where MB and CPU are sandwitched between case and cooler.
Even different fans can help you know ... that's why I used cooling solutions as a broad term 🤷♂️
Yes, but would need to first see what cooler is actually in the unit apexassasin has, as it might be different than the tower cooler in the marketing pic given.
I didn't even bother looking at the marketing pic, useless for this context imo 😄
Can't find that specific model on Asus website. Not with a 3060.
As example from Dell little onwards from this timestamp:
https://youtu.be/4DMg6hUudHE?t=1136
Our Dell G5 5000 pre-built gaming computer review looks at quality & Dell’s shady billing practices. One video won’t be enough to contain all the issues we had with Dell’s prebuilt.
Support GN & get a Modmat, Mouse Mat, or other item: https://store.gamersnexus.net/
Buy GN's Red & Black Mouse Pad: https://store.gamersnexus.net/products/gn-...
Seems like a ROG Strix GT15 G15 .
And in several cases over the years the mounting holes might have been nonstandard, or use older sockets mounting hole pattern to keep using same case and cooler.
105mm fan mounts make any AIO impossible.
Low height above the CPU makes most air coolers impossible.
And good luck trying to cool a 190W CPU with an AXP120
Or hell, just put only 120mm single mounts there
No 120mm AIO will be powerful enough
GT15 G15 for 3070.
But that kind of "insane" CPU cooler mounting is unfortunately way too common in large OEM prebuilds.
And I know AM4 5800X "gaming" machine from Asus with that kind of mounting, with that kind of crap top-down 65W max cooler as in that Dell in that GN video.
Was looking into the manual. And it sucks. It's all about how you have to sit in front of your prebuilt. Not joking.
That sucker had broken fan curves, causing the case fans to do start-stop constantly and rear one to breark its bearings in a year.
Was hoping for hardware specs. (dimensions).
And used nonstandard fan connectors.

"Ensure that you are using compatible or ASUS-recommended CPU fan." - that alludes to it can be replaced.
But AFAIK Asus prebuilds are as horrible as Dells.
But yeah, the manual describes where to look into if noise is an issue.
But I have had very limited exposure to Asus desktop prebuilds.
My last prebuild was 25 years ago
Last was Dell Pentium 2 based thing around 1998.
Replaced the included ATi RAGE (don't remember exact version) card with Riva TNT right away and sold the ATi card.
Previous one had been self-built, but in that case that Dell was extremely cheap for the contents because of some special.
Which isn't possible, so sensor error on one or both.
Because in that case the liquid would be heating the CPU, and would need some other heat source to heat the liquid.
id asume its the liquid sensor being on crack
or having some kind of read +_ above actual temp
cause its about consitently a 5C diffrence
If you need a foot rest, your desk and chair are too high
what weirdo uses there chair at max height
slam that sucker to the minimum
don't forget the foot rest
Feet flat on the ground.
Right angle in your hip and your knees determines seat height.
Straight shoulders and right angle in your elbows determines desk height.
Easy as that
You need a foot rest if your desk or your chair can't go low enough
Huh, someone didn't read the manual.
This is from the manual.
I guess if you can't lower your desk, you only have one option if your short.
Raise the chair. And get a foot rest 😅
i read it im just not following any of the instructions
my eyes are not level with the top of my monitors there level with the center
the last thing im following is the 90 degree angles
and i dont have a footrest
And it's bogus. What I mentioned are the TÜV recommended desk ergonomics - btw, I addressed that foot rest part
Either of these will require you to have a footrest
yea thanks weather channel, i know there's an excessive heat warning
45 fucking degrees
C*
fun fact: airports shut down when it hits 120F/50C because that's as high as the takeoff weight charts go to, and even if you know you're ok to take off, insurance uses those charts & won't cover the flight, so it ain't leaving
Depends on plane how high the chart goes.
How high temperatures did the plane manufacturer test to.
Some test to lower max, depending where the plane is expected to be used.
And if some operator was willing to pay for the testing, and opportunity to test was found, they could be tested higher.
But that is also part of the problem, you need the conditions in real world to run the tests, and if they happen too infrequently, that testing cannot be done.
yup
but the fact that insurance chooses to use that chart nullifies any further testing
Not even insurance.
Regulations disallow it.
that too
You can only run outside the chart for that experimental flight testing by the manufacturer.
To get the data for the chart.
For anyone else, it is against the law.
i'm kinda wondering if it's going to happen tomorrow here 🤣 was seeing some 121s around the valley
2am here and it's a nice cool 26C
ok, dumb question time
do any printers use a combo of black ink, but toner for color?
What?
Lasers use toner.
Most other types use inks.
There are no laser+other combo printers I know.
was thinking it might be smart to use black ink for quality, but color toner since it wouldn't dry out like ink would
if they could smash them into 1 printer
inkjet black, laser color
ah right
current printer felt like having some kind of major fault
bought it in 2014, best i've ever had
sucks that it quit on me
gonna pop it open tomorrow to see if it's an easy fix, but i have my doubts
it yelled at me that yellow was out, and after replacing it, just said "me brokey"
i finally made a pc part picker list thats actually up to date of my setup so now i can give you guys a updated list next time something implodes (https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/MagicZ_YT/saved/#view=DHN8jX)
If you wanna be extra cool, you're using custom prices to denote what you paid for it
i just look at the CPU and see a potential future problem
Why the network card tho?
Not really, even before the microcode update, the primarily affected CPU line were i9
(referring to the Puget numbers)
every cpu is affected, the higher ones just faster
Exactly my point
The i9 line were the ones that primarily showed issues.
The rest not so much
And with the patch, it's safe to say that performance creep will become an issue faster than degradation
cause the one on the board is dead
with the patch i removed a week ago cause i wanted my performance back
its "probably" fine its at half of life already anyway
with me actively trying to murder it
Perfect setup for a joke about Americans not caring about safety measures put in place to protect them
And yes, I know you're Canadian
They are organising a massive concert here in almost 400.000 square meters and they tell visitors to install an app so they can keep up with updates
Little did they know Wi-Fi can't handle 500.000 people and mobile network is probably going down
This is going to be interesting to watch lol
Correct me if I am wrong but there is not a single access point system and mobile network which can handle 500.000 people inside 400.000 square meters
You would need a LOT of access points for this not to mention ridiculous bandwidth
North of 120 gigabit if everyone was capped at 256mbit maxxing it
lol
err 256kbit
Maybe the odds be ever in their favor...
not sure how much a single cell tower could handle...
as far as client count and b/w
All telcos already mentioned in advance they will install multiple mobile base stations but issues will happen 100%
You can't simply handle so much people
outside of b/w they can probably take the clients if they install the AP's
but do they have 200gigabit+ b/w?
I would still rely on mobile network because if the concert organiser installed a lot of AP's, not a single ISP would offer 200 gigabit
I don't think even corporations get such speeds
and 256kbit a super lowball that's snails pace by 2025 standards
Correction: I am wrong about 200 gigabit
Corporations can probably get such speeds but you won't find ISP public offers on the internet because such speeds are agreed in private between ISP's and corporations
Wwell that's the thing plenty of telcos can do it if they run a drop
but that's expensive... and takes time and pre-planning
And when else will they need that installed there?
Yeah, even with mobile base stations installed, ISP's said there will still be a lot of issues because not a single mobile broadband system can handle so much traffic in a very small space
I mean shit AT&T will install 200gigabit where i sit... but if i could afford that i wouldn't live here lol
15 days and counting lol
I better grab popcorns because this is going to be interesting lol
Some sites have a shitload of capacity
Imagine 500.000 finding parking space at the time of concert, good luck 🤣
like the downtown arenas all have way more than they typically need on tap
But that's places where they have huge events ALL the time
Security experts already said at least 5 dead people can be expected, not to mention crowd control issues
baseball and football arenas, basketball... hockey arenas
Most of those double for convensions of all sorts... including techy ones where everybody is a nerd that needs b/w lol
I would never go to places where a lot of people are packed like sardines in a can. If someone trips, beg nothing happens to you
There have been some nasty crowd tramplings.. and crushings
people get pushed up against a barrier and it's just people 60 deep behind you pushing... all of them
Yeah, that's what I am worried about. If someone offers me a free ticket to such concert, no thank you....
I've been to... a unch of shows
sometimes in the mosh pit lol
Those seem more dangerous than they used to be
Don't want to try that here lol
Back in my era if somebody fell it was almost like an organism surrounding it to keep people away
people rarely got more than some bruises
Hope something like astroworld incident won't happen here
People don't realize it but at a lot of those places you were well controlled like cattle lol
They spend a fortune on people that specialize in crowds and how to get them to go where and do what you'd prefer.
Youtube has been going downhill for years recently. Worst update was making ads appear if you pause the video
Correction: youtube shorts was worse!
Unfortunately shorts has worked out incredibly well for them
And I've noticed on mobile that the number of in-video adds has gone way up
On a 20-minute video I'll sometimes get 5+ midroll ads
Yeah, I hate that tik tok video format....
Also happens to me regularly on Android
Yep
And sometimes there are two or three ads per add break so that when I'm watching a video on a technical topic I'll forget where it was at before the ads
Better check youtube revanced again if it's still working
mine is just bugging out then? lol
it betta not be because I am playing music
so tempted to stop paying for premium ... should be a flawless experience imo
can't stand those, lol
hmmm, adblock was messing with it
Been using Brave for a number of months now. So far no problems with YT... or anything else really
(I have YT premium)
There is no fixing me sadly.
Sorry, I just watched IKEA puns video and now I see puns everywhere
No need to apologize 😄 It was a decent jab.
That IKEA pun video though. It's a clever tactic if you don't want your wife to bring you to IKEA

Just torture her with puns and she will never take you anywhere anymore https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7T2oje4cYxw
We moved in together recently so had to make the unavoidable trip to IKEA; I figured out how to get through there as quickly as possible.
Yeah, yeah I know, vertical video and all that, you'll survive.
Honestly, I don't see or hear commercials at all.
For years. Disconnected from radio ages ago. Add-blocking. And ditched traditional TV networks since streaming.
If I see your face around here again... IKEA!
The german spelling?
Different tactic:
Don't have a wife
Or that 👆
Sorry 😦
Ruhetag!
Sunday
What German spelling?
*calls ordnungsamt
My german teacher claimed there was an acronym for IKEA or something.
Like 10+ years ago 🤣
You got a german teacher?
I had.
What did you do to them?
*backronym and it was a joke
Idioten kaufen einfach alles.
(idiots just buy everything)
rofl
idiots buy everything
That one translates pretty nicely into my language.
"Idioten kopen alles."
I am not sure about "einfach" to my language.
Recently heard about "idiotentest"
Damn ... that's not PC.
FIAT - Fehler in allen Teilen (faulty in all parts)
HONDA - Hält ohnehin nur drei Ampeln (lasts only three traffic lights anyway)
etc
I think it's driving licence test afaik
Haha, the germans dissing everything not BMW 🤣
How am I not surprised.
Oh, it's a psychological evaluation if you are fit to be a driver
It's when your driver's license was revoked for too many or too strong violations against traffic laws
No way? It's called that, for real?
We have rhymes for some of them. Similar fashion.
They make you take that test to be eligible for getting your license back
Called the idiot test?
Bayerische Müllwagen
(Bavarian Trash Cars)
Nicknamed. Not officially called that
Ok, I was already thinking.
Here, if they revoke your licence for 2 years, they will give it back after 2 years and won't ask any questions lol
cuz only idiots get to take it
You never know with Germany.
Unless you obtained so many negative points in which case they will revoke your licence for life
There are many, many more like these
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backronym
A backronym is an acronym formed from an already existing word by expansion of its letters into the words of a phrase. Backronyms may be invented with either serious or humorous intent, or they may be a type of false etymology or folk etymology. The word is a portmanteau of back and acronym.
A normal acronym is a word derived from the initial le...
Here, there is negative "stereotype" about BMW drivers
I like the point system. We don't have it in my country.
We got that too - including ineligibility for taking a new driver's exam for some time
Never use turn signals, always speeding, complain about speeders and people who don't use turn signals
Point system in Germany basically means traffic violations are legal if you can afford them.
There are services where people pretend like they caused your infraction and take the punishment (for an extra fee)
And it's legal
Well here you are left to the whims of a judge, not better at all.
Cuz while you can't falsely accuse someone else, there's no law stopping you from falsely accusing yourself
Oh, trust me, we still got that too
Here, if a BMW has working blinkers, it means the car is broken and you need to visit a car mechanic asap
@night girder I'm going back to lurking mode now.
We had some big celebrity crashing his car, drunk, endangering someone else, ... he got away with a few months without driving license.
Now it turns out, it's his 10 traffic violation with drinking. That made me question our system. And I understand why a lot of countries have point system.
You never left 😦
Point system handles the bulk, judges whatever isn't covered or gets disputed
All you do is lurk and once a day pop-up and then dissapear. But I hope you are good and having fun in life 😄
Just busy at work then semi dead at home :p
All I am saying, and that's just my point of view, that I think point system is better than current system my country has.
We too have that cuz celebrities and rich fucks can still abuse the system
Not perfect by any means, just better than 😉
But vacations in a few weeks so maybe a bit more active then.
it makes me so angry. 10 traffic violations with alcohol and speeding.
The dude is 50 years old celebrity with kids.
Fair point - I was just saying that a point system won't solve the issues
"He didn't know he drank that much ..." was his excuse. For real?
"He will never do it again ..."
"He will take alcohol management classes ..." blablabla
Shouldn't be allowed to drive for a few years.
Let them acknowledge that driving is a privilege, not a right.
Then you're on 11 points, get caught speeding which would give you the 12th, so you pay some random university student a hundred bucks to say that he was driving the car so that he will get the point
That's literally a service people offer here
Sorry. My blood boils to think such people drive around us.
And it's fucking legal
I did hear Germany finally stopped with the craazy autobahn principle?
That you can't just pedal to the metal anymore on the left.
And there were investigations by journalists and one owner of such a service did a public interview under his real name showing his face - and there were no consequences cuz he's just offering a legal service that people are using
I think the driver here also gets negative points instead of the car owner
And while people are outraged that such services exist, the guy and the journalists did a good job at communicating "hate the game, not the player" so the guy actually didn't receive that many hateful messages
Assuming you can identify the driver
When??
Just over the years. That less and less autobahns allow to drive unlimmited speed.
Oh ok
Someone told that to me last week. Not if it's true.
I looked it up and its like 50% have no speed limit 20% have temporary limit
Found something interesting regarding traffic violations here. If someone who is not the owner of the vehicle makes a traffic violation and the police can't identitfy the person, the car owner will get the fine but nobody will get negative points
Uhm, nope, still very much in place.
HOWEVER:
- This is the default rule and it applies only if there's no other speed limit in place.
- Plenty of autobahn segments have a speed limit, I think it's like ⅔
- There are recurring demands by politicians and activists for the default rule to be a limit too - however there wasn't any actual legislation enforced
- While there is no speed limit, there is a recommended speed of 130 kph which if you go over will mean that anything bad happening will be disproportionately attributed to your speed
None of this changed in the last couple years tho
Really?
I heard more and more cities or district, or however it works in Germany.
Just don't allow the "pedal to the metal" fromt he old ages.
The owner has to do due diligence which is generally considered done if the driver has a valid license and the vehicle was insured
Wasn't it way way way back, there were just no rules on the left?
Or not when it comes to speed?
This also brings us close to what you mentioned before. If you are the owner of the car and the police can't identify it was you, you could say someone else was driving and you would avoid getting negative points
Uhm, once you're within city boundaries, you have a hard cap of 50 kph.
The zero limit rule only applies to Autobahn which are administered on the federal level
While there is no speed limit, there is a recommended speed of 130 kph which if you go over will mean that anything bad happening will be disproportionately attributed to your speed.
Someone also told me, that you aren't insured if you go above that speed limit?
Cities and states have no say in Autobahn speed limits
Let me rephrase.
You are insured. But if you are above speed limit, you cause an accident, you have to pay full.
Insurance doesn't come inbetween because you were driving above the 130 speed limit.
That did make sense to me for some reason. Give people the freedom to drive fast. Give people all the responsibility if things go wrong.
Can't remember there ever being such a rule in modern times.
Autobahn having no speed limit by default is the only thing that comes close to it - and that applies to all lanes.
And actually, if there is no other car on the road, you have to drive on the right - and adjust speed according to visibility
But it's a crazy concept to think cars can drive so hard if they want
Realllly? All lanes? We all learn it's only on the left here haha 😄
That's crazy... all lanes wtf.
Some guy broke 414 kmh recently i think
The left makes sense.
Don't want to drive fast? Go right. Want to drive fast or take risks? Go left.
It's not a speed limit, it's a recommendation. You can go over and insurance will have to cover still.
However, they can reduce the amount they cover if they can prove that the damages hadn't been that bad if you were driving the recommended speed
But now nothing is safe on a autobahn.
Mtfucker lied to me. And I still remember who it was.
Old colleague at work, who lived in Romania or something and went home every weekend. He had a mustang car and just went through german home ... every weekend.
"Only is a few hours drive" he told me.
Well, if you're going 400 in the right lane, anyone who just got onto the Bahn at 80kph or smth will be a big risk factor - so if you want to go petal to the metal, you better do it in the left most lane.
But legally, on the Autobahn:
- unless specified otherwise, no speed limit on any lane
- drive as far to the right as the traffic allows
- adjust your speed to the circumstances (visibility, surface conditions, etc)
Not necessarily lied to - maybe exaggerated or misrepresented.
Also: what I said is the legal perspective. In reality, they absolutely will cover as little as they can make the math allow
heh. Wouldn't say it does
Can you drive a car thats not technically street legal on it
In my head, it wasn't so stupid that the law and goverment said;
Ok, you can drive as fast as you want BUT you can't expect the insurance to cover this bullshit if you crash your porsch on autobahn at 300 kmph.
They might even say that whatever happened wouldn't have happened at 130 - which if true would mean nigh zero coverage
Because for a lot of people, they will drive saver if they know insurance doesn't cover em.

Insurance and law are two separate entities.
Insurance policies will include the law, but they can't refuse coverage if you technically did nothing wrong (it's the technicalities that matter)
No. You also can't drive anything that can't do 60 kph
If you're a farmer with a tractor capped at 59 kph, you can't take that on the Autobahn
Not always. Actually, the two have common grounds.
I remember smth about a guy from Dubai in a Bugatti
He had people at every approach to the Bahn that warned oncoming traffic and he did it at like 5am.
Which is why he wasn't fined or punished in any way - while he did aim to go for max speed (which is punishable as a crime), he also took reasonable precautions to avoid harming anyone else
Law can create context for insurance.
Even insurance companies have laws they have to abide too.
Yes, but law can't tell insurers what not to insure
And with law, I also mean the law makers, goverments.
It's 100% possible for a country to say; above this speed limit, insurance companies have the right to not intervene.
The traffic laws make no statement about what is or isn't insured, your insurance contract does
Then it's up to insurance companies to choice what to do.
Exactly
They can insure above speed limit or not. But if they don't and people complain, the insurance company has the law behind em.
But maybe I was not clear with my phrasing 😄
I was taking issue with this wording cuz it insinuated that the legislation also regulated your insurance policy - which it doesn't
Second time i hear the word insinuating today. It's such a dangerous thing to insinuate anything.
Again, it's not a limit. It's a recommendation.
A limit is violated if you go over.
It's not a traffic violation to exceed the Richtgeschwindigkeit.
I like the German word Unterstellung too
I said: It's 100% possible for a country to say; above this speed limit, insurance companies have the right to not intervene.
cuz it basically says what it means: introducing an assumption upon which the statement is built
But that's not my point, my point was, I saw a logic in it. That's why I believe him when they told me that 😦
I myself make too many insinuations and found out, they are 50% or more of the time off 😄
Today somebody got angry at me because they made so many insinuations in their head, while I was not aware of any of it since I wasn't making any insinuations.
I am arguing about the word "speed limit" itself because "Richtgeschwindigkeit" is by definition NOT a limit, it's a recommendation.
They tell you that you should only go that fast, but they're not disallowing you to go over.
And insurance companies use that as justification for reducing your coverage:
You went against a recommendation, so you knew you were disregarding safety
AAH! 😄 Gotcha.
Sorry, culture thing 😉
You don't get fined for going over the Richtgeschwindigkeit, but you will be if you exceed the Höchstgeschwindigkeit
We have a speed limit nothing else.
Ehhhh, less culture, just an extra in-between step
Which is important to know
Very much a culture difference between your culture and mine 😄
and that's 100% fine btw. Not an insult.
The whole autobahn logic is pretty special you know that right?
cuz it also affects insurance policies.
An insurer can't outright refuse coverage when exceeding the recommended speed - because you did nothing wrong, they can't act like you did.
However, you were acting "recklessly" in the sense that you wilfully ignored a recommendation
So they can reduce your coverage to whatever it would've been had you abided to the recommendation
Ah, that makes sense.
Yup - there are a lot of exceptions to wrap your head around
So you have a recommendation (that you can accept or not) and sometimes you have a limit (not autobahn I guess)?
And if you ignore recommendation, insurance can't just say "You ignored a recommendation so we don't insure". If I understand it a bit?
There are default rules and there are localized rules
By default, there are no speed limits on the Autobahn.
But if the local circumstances require it, there will be a limit for that stretch of the road
Same for streets in the city:
You'll have speed limits during the night for noise reduction or during weekdays near schools and daycare centers
I am tempted to start looking up data now. I am really curious now in accidents ratio etc 😄
The default is that big sign right at the country's border that tells you "hey, if you don't see any other rule applied, this is what you have to follow"
Isnt one of the reasons the autobahn exists is bc its so hard to get a licence in germany?
In Germany, there are three types of speed regulations:
Maximum (duh), recommended (can go over but shouldn't) and minimum (can't go under)
It was to create jobs at the moment in history.
The usage of the autobahn, I don't know. I just know who made the autobahn. Or atleast what historians tell me.
No, they can't. They still have to insure.
But they can reduce the coverage - which in reality almost always comes close to a refusal
I don't think we even have a minimum 😦
Our law states something vague like; "You can't drive at a speed that endangeres others. While its by being too slow too fast".
Then we have laws that specify what is too fast. But no concrete numbers for too slow.
So in reality, nobody ever gets fined for driving too slow, because nobody knows what "too slow" actually is. Is it 10 below speed limit? 20? 30?
Is it a % maybe?
Ehh. It's a convoluted process and the hurdles are definitely higher than elsewhere, but it's still somewhat easy.
You have to take a written exam (ish, it's multiple choice with a set of standardized questions) and you have to pass an actual driving test
Ok
There is a trick Maow.
Don't get your License in Germany. Then go drive in Germany 😉
