And Titans also had professional versions back then.
Those were what the die was actually made for, just reused on "gaming" card.
Basically Nvidia used to have professional cards, and gaming cards.
Then they added Prosumer card in between.
First as Titan branded ones, and now as X090 named card.
Where they use the biggest die for professional cards without the certified drivers.
And with less VRAM at this time etc.
I've kinda lost belief in "certified drivers" with the work/quadro cards when using them with SolidWorks. With new SW releases there still can be graphical problems, and changes are that while you have to disable some graphical feature to get it work with, while gaming card works perfectly.
Yeah, they are snake-oil.
But some places require that.
And they are always "This driver version with this software version".
i'd also love to see any evidence that nvidia would absorb losses or accept responsibility for a product that's flawed due to their GPU putting out a shit result
For larger companies where desing computers are managed by IT deparment, they just use older versions which are known to work
Anyone know the legality, even a little bit, about having a small screen on the back of my truck so that when someone is too close, it turns on saying something like “you are too close”
iirc it's illegal because it's a clear distraction to those on the road
unless it reflects light (headlights) or is explicitely stated as not alowed i doubt it would be banned in any way
atleast in the states and canada
i think rolling text & then colors of emergency/police vehicles are banned
i know there's rules about screens that are ads
its all in the art of driving a car so illegal the cops dont know what to even hit you with and just end up not bothering
the monty burns approach, i like it
oh you don't need a surprising amount of stuff
all you need is a windsheild atleast one mirror proper lighting and blinkers right?
and bumpers
and registration iirc, for going onto 25mph+ streets
but also depending on the frame, all of the stuff required for it
like emissions testing
i'd love to see an american take a shitbox over to germany & see how far it'd get before it got stopped & impounded 🤣
Some people might know me as... Keef Moon
(and yes, i say that as a former shitbox owner)
I've gotten to see more and more emissions related stuff added to car engines... and part of me will always hate every last bit of it
Makes them a fuckin nightmare to work on
it started off as a decent idea, then it went off a cliff
old school engine I can rebuild it in a day or two heh
So from what aspect I always hated it because it got to where it was just too much work
i like the idea of the PCV valve & the cat, aaaaaaaand that's about it 🤣
(and too many additional points of possible failure)
And not emissions but these folks that buy the used caddies and are in love with caddies
just about everything else is parasitic & dumb
that's great... but ffs those things have a sensor for everything
i swear i think some of the sensors havce sensor sensors
so basically the FB group always has people trying to figure out WTF is wrong heh
hey i wouldn't mind a little LED on every electrical connection in a car to let you know if it's actually plugged in & working 🤣
Some of the stuff is related to fuel efficiency too, with the emissions. So that's a plus at least
i solved all of it with 1 easy step, at least for me
I loved my gas guzzling v8
I used to have a 79 Camero...
mine was a 66 chevy C20 with a 400 small block in i rebuilt myself
The original idea was ditch that and get a 80 Z28 with the flip open air induction hood but I never got around to that part lol
my dad had a 71 Z28
If you have the front in in good shape those things drive great oo
*front end
I'm at a point where if I'm going to buy an older car and rebuild the engine or something I need to do it soonish because I aint getting any younger
and there's 0 money in it
i did throw 4 wheel disc brakes on that thing, because 4 drums on a truck that weighs almost 4 tons empty scared the shit outta me
had a pine bed 😛 last of them
ok really dumb question
what kind of hardware would it take to run an mmo that would host max 4k
Depensd entirely on the server you're hosting
Could be anything from a modern but not uncommon 16 core desktop chip or a big epyc server or even multiple nodes if you're really ineffecient with it
is there anything incredibly at risk stability-wise by jumping from ancient hardware to newer?
Pretty high chance to need Windows reinstall to not have weird issues.
"the long-term effects of South Korea's unprecedented fertility crisis"
aha - yes, very much not interested
30fps with FSR Q at 1080p ?????
as i understand it its 1080@30 without upscaling and 4k@30 with
at the recomended yes
but at the minimum specs..........
i interpret this as "performance quality preset" not "performance upscaleing preset"
9950X3D "all core" workload. Sorry about finnish task manager
Why would you use Finnish Windows?
i dont really know. I'm used to it can dont really cause issues
yea im kinda like that about my youtube
it always randomly reverts back to french and i nerver notice until someone points it out
Yeah, maybe install english now and try it
Fortunately trivial on Windows 10 and 11, if you don't have OEM Single Language, but any other license.
I've used those 10€ ebay Win11 Pro licenses on all my PCs. Some could say its piratism support 🙄
city of heroes homecoming does such numbers, and they tell you exactly what hardware they use and how much it costs, though coh was written in like 2003 so the code is ancient
their latest expenses were $5,154.00 for the previous month
Probably some tab opened with that language from which you source all the slactivity
Damn, AdBlock doesn't work anymore on Firefox so I have to install uBlock origin
Which loads videos normally while in the past, I had long loading time with uBlock origin
Google is really going aggressive against ad blockers no matter the browser
ublock origin on firefox is unbeatable
the us government is telling google to spin off chromium
(the CURRENT ADMINISTRATION hates Big Tech for a perceived liberal bias so that might actually still go through)
Don't know why I had issues with uBlock origin on firefox in the past but now it's working fine (no longer have issues with long loading)
this being the case I can see a spun off chromium suddenly supporting ad blockers again
Hope uBlock origin works for some time on firefox and doesn't meet the same fate as on chrome...
firefox has no plans to ditch NetRequest, the extension API that allows UBO to function
they also don't have enough of a market share to get away with ditching it
I have an uncomfortable feeling Google is going to start banning accounts who use ad blockers soon but hope I am wrong...
for any chromium browser you need to use for whatever reason, use ublock origin lite, which is not as powerful but still great
nah they wanna make you pay, banned customers can't pay
plus, you can still use youtube when signed out, they're not gonna change that
neutering adblockers in chrome is their strategy to defeat them; they went to war with UBO and lost completely, so they now prevent adblockers from updating their own definitions at speed; instead they have to go through the chrome extension store approval process, which can take days or weeks, during which UBOL will be ineffective against youtube
meanwhile real UBO can update pretty much in real time
Companies have been cracking down on ad blockers really hard in recent years
it's been google's long term plan for like a decade
but with the US telling them to split off chromium, and the EU slamming them with the DMA/DSA, those days may be numbered
until then firefox is going nowhere
and i prefer anarchy
yea what i was thinking of has code of similar age. mainly wondering if they ever released it as a "if your rig can handle running the entire thing on its own, sure, have at it" open source or something like GMod
or if the game officially goes under, but some people magically get ahold of the serverside software, what it'd take to run as private servers
as in absence of a centralized order or absence of any order?
(the latter of which not being actual anarchy but anomy)
I'm evil...
27 everyone was nice. Gotta see em pay the price. See their bodies out on the ice. Take my time....
Yall don't know nothin bout all that
Been eyeballing that. Almost everything I want. HE switches, compact but still maintains the 10 key
It's a Keychron, I got one a few years back and it's been great especially considering it was one of the cheaper ones they sold
could use some new switches at this point since the most oft used blues are more like reds now lol
Gotta love Keychron
Ya do you know about them more recently? Like do they still make solid products?
It's been a few years since I got mine, never know when things might change
Haven't heard about any decline in quality
If anything, their V Pro launch was another banging success
Me either... which I guess is a good sign eh
I know Jay loves them... but I see why lol
I honestly, in a rare instance, felt like I got more than I paid for when I got it.
Keychron is in a good position where they are.
They offer you prebuild keyboards with most of the features of a custom built while only charging entry level
Yeah I looked into putting one together myself but meh I already have enough projects and other things to do lol
And then you see all these gamurrrr brands and suddenly notice what a fuckin ripoff the big brand keyboard market is
Plus I get locked by choice paralysis to a degree
My own custom keeb was built upon a Keychron v6
I got a hyperx and it's been a problem since day 1 really
Not many ISO-layout boards with that degree of customizability
im using it right now actually... the zero key is about done tho
..and I don't think they are swappable so yay... unless i wanna solder a switch in
I'm glad that I didn't go with Alloy Elite 2 but that I got my V6 and aftermarket pudding caps
That assumes that you can change the switches through soldering
mine is an old Alloy FPS pro
Which isn't smth I'd take for granted
Yeah if they are soldered in I could swap them
i just won't bother lol
I think when I order my keyboard from Keychron I'll order a new set of switches for my other one
Maybe some keycaps too...
What I mean is that the act of changing switches won't break smth else in the board and the switches themselves are standard shit
Just go ahead and plan to drop 2 bills lol
Plus you don't fuck up some config ass shit with that soldering plan
Unless it's some weird tight spot I can desolder and solder something in, just depends on the design
I'd be more worried about heat but I can compensate for that with flux
I need a hot air soldering station tbh... since I wanna do surface mount stuff anyhow
Only issues I've been having were
- A broken switch (but since I'm using aftermarket ones, that ain't on Keychron)
- "Frozen" inputs where a key is registered as staying pressed when it has been released - not conclusively troubleshooted yet, could very well be the KVM switch
I gotta find out what my switch options are on my old uhh I think it's a K10 or something I'd have to look
But yeah, hotswap was definitely a bit of a ride compared to how custom keebs are supposed to behave
Might order differenct switches for the new keyboard actually, the ones it comes with are middle ground for activation force
I kinda like a light touch, guess I should see if I like the ones it comes with if not swap em and have a spare set I guess
ya start end is 40/60 with the nebulas and 30/50 for the dawn
and I'd not like the aurora for sure
only way I want 50+ is maybe buckling spring lol
whipper snappers
Yeah but... Unicomp now owns the design and tooling and still makes them (yes with buckling spring keyswitches)
The Mini M is actually kinda neat
it got the squid game buttons
i feel like they stole the plans from a soviet nuclear facility keyboard
i feel like they stole the plans for the death star
i said soviet nuclear facility already
But, in reality.. Whats the difference between a death star, and a soviet nuclear facility? 🙈
Fun fact: A laserdisk video game was released in 1983 that used footage from Lupin III to create the game
...was good too, not surprising I guess since Stern made it
Replace diamond with X and you got shitty PlayStation pictograms
welp, time for new headphone ear pads i guess

Intel might have cancelled the higher end Battlemage die.
I heard they canceled it completely but I haven’t researched for myself
Middle Battlemage is out?

lol
The new build/case, still some cleaning up to do but I’m happy with her.
what case? looks similar to mine (Lian Li EVO 011 Vision)
Very close! The Lian-Li O11D EVO RGB.
Ah nice
Haven't seen that one with the LED's, pretty neat
I'm more into accent lighting like that than all over the fans and whatnot
Yeah the LED strips are a snazzy touch! The case itself was a pleasure to build in.
Oh hell yeah t here is tons of room on both sides
I’m hoping I will continue to use it for many years.
Used the GPU support that came with it, works great and you don't even notice it
I decided I liked the one that came with my GPU haha.
I usually use a case at least until I replace the PC... after that it depends
I will hold onto the one that came with the case though.
Yeah it's nothing fancy but it works and is kinda hidden
I usually keep a case for two builds but this is my favourite case by far and I have trouble imagining what more I could want in a case until some new form-factor comes out.
If the machine is still in decent working shape I'll usually repurpose the last PC into a server or something
I think the one this replaced just needs a PSU, I'll have to get one and try it to know for sure.
I want to build a media server this year. Waiting until I move though.
Decent 10TB drives are about $300.
Finally getting fiber by the end of summer (or sooner if I am lucky)
They will install a concrete manhole near my fence and the distribution cabinet is literally across the street
At last! Haha
Fiber is fantastic.
They were planning to run fiber through a wooden pole but there are issues with the crazy neighbour who probably won't allow ISP to do any construction on the pole (which is near neighbour's property)...
ISP wanted to install a cabinet near an apartment building recently and got the building permits from the city. However, crazy neighbour blocked the construction because the cabinet is "obstructing" balcony view and police was involved
Oh bureaucracy.
Technically, it's not the bureaucracy that was causing the problem. It's the neighbour pretending to be a "district wild west sheriff" 😛
Nice, more Lian Li 😄
wild west sheriff eh
challenge them to a draw...
bet that yellabelly runs off then
I really want to know for how much did ISP sue that neighbor for obstructing construction even though ISP had building permits and everything was done according to the construction laws
In short, that neighbor is screwed because she has no valid arguments which would help her in court
Saying the cabinet is obstructing the view from the balcony is not really a valid argument if you ask me. If that were the case, you could say people are not allowed to build houses nearby because you won't be able to see nature in the background
i was literally just scrolling through that chaos a few days ago looking for one of hergs memes
That is what you call... a Karen
dear god it's blocking the view of half a square meter of grass & sidewalk
You should have seen people in a nearby village which was close to a city. Before covid, ISP wanted to run fiber in order to cover the village and villagers organized a protest claiming fiber optic cable emits radiation and warning that everyone will get cancer.
When covid happened and a lot of people worked from home, they complained about bad internet connection on copper and demanded fiber
It's funny how they completely forgot about the cancer thing when they are personally affected with bad internet connection
Well... I had been considering a switch. Had been...
Nintendo has lose their collective minds heh
at 650 + any accessories I want + games... might as well just spend a little more and get a gaming laptop if i really want portable gaming
i mean, bottom end gaming laptops are about to be starting at $1200
New 4 stage RO filter system for this season 😄
I am thinking - how to remove microplastics where possibly
realization that there's practically no way to go around it in question of water
well, unless I live somewhere with an old well
but it's all plastic, hehe
The membrane is the last stage before the resin which isn't even usually used for drinking water
yeah i mean... i guess lol
well over 7 years of power on time
I have a 90GB here I'll plug in some time to check, it'll be way past 67k hours probably
I've pile of IDE drives somewhere, like 40 - 160GB sizes. Still in runnning condition when removed from the systems. No idea of hours on them
The parallel cabling for them would be pain when used to SATA 😄
Functioning after continuous use, or that's been stored cold?
Mine were in full use when removed, like 15-years ago when SSDs came to market. Stored in room temperature. No idea if they would work or not, maybe jsut throw them to electronic waste. But they might still have some my personal data
i have a super dumb question
i know that modern HDDs use helium inside so that they can spin faster
but
Not spin faster.
Have more platters by making the read heads be closer to the platters.
could you take the platters from one, and just have it more or less open air, just really really slow reads in cases of recovery?
For best recovery gear, you don't need to spin the platter at all.
So you can even read physically fragmented platters.
ok is there a video on that kind of thing, because that sounds amazing to me
But your premise was false, as the point of the helium is to cram more platters into same space, from making less turbulence, so the read heads don't take as much space.
If you want to use the normal read heads they come with etc.
i suspect doing it as recovery or to clone it to a fresh drive would involve a million dollar machine
I think in addition to 13900K, I had only one hardware that have failed on me. It was a Samsung 160GB HDD, had bad sectors from factory. Fresh Windows install just froze on that. Printed out the diagnostics and went to the store with, and got replacement from the shelf. Funny thing that still remember that 😄
But helped diagnose/fixed a lot other people computers with failed HDD
Oh yeah and I do have one Samsung 960EVO 250GB that went to "read only" mode, but all data was recoverable
One of my 1TB hard drives bricked because of firmware fault.
Had to update the firmware over serial port to unbrick, and upgrade the three other same model drives normally before they bricked too.
256 slot round robin storage for some firmware variable, and the firmware couldn't handle the case when the newest value was stored in last(?) slot when starting IIRC.
Or something similar, probably not that simple as the drive also had to have been running for long enough, so the problems started only after a year or more IIRC.
Samsungs?
Yeah, Samsung 1TB HD103SJ, type fault for those.
Or was it Samsung F1 and this one I have in my hand is something else?
Yeah, Samsung Spinpoint F1:s
IIRC
980 Pros also had issues with firmware, more on 2TB than smaller ones. My 1TB was already with the fixed firmware when bought, no problems so far with it.
This was HDD.
After Samsung sold their HDD division.
I mean after this fuckup happened.
In 2010 timeframe +- few years it seems?
Or was that on Seagate 7200.11?
Just cannot find the stuff anymore...
Ah, yeah, that was Seagate 7200.11, which is why I couldn't find it first.
Have to say that hardware speed difference is noticeable when your welder friend can see it beetween PCIe 3.0 and 5.0 NVME drive on new PC. He came here to the office asking for dimensions that were not visible on paper drawings, so I opened the assembly in SolidWorks, and he just was confused how it opens it so fast compared to old PC. Was prepared to sit down and wait for a minute 😄
It’s been a rough past week for Seagate, and even more so for owners of new large-capacity Seagate hard disk drives.
Samsung F3 HDDs had major compatibility issues with various SATA chipsets.
The cause documented for that 7200.11 fuckup:
https://fillwithcoolblogname.blogspot.com/2011/02/fixing-seagate-720011-bsy-0-lba-fw-bug.html
And then seems that some people broke their controllers when trying to fix that by plugging direct to PC serial port, and feeding 12V to 3.3V TTL level input...

NVIDIA has major GPU driver instability problems right now, and that includes the newer RTX 50 series (like the 5090) and the prior RTX 40 and 30 series alike. We read through user reports, then set forth to try and replicate the issues. In our reviews process, these problems...
big shocker
anyway i have been in intel hell for the past two weeks trying to finish this stupid presentation ahhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Could be worse.. Imagine if you payed over 3000 USD for a GPU.. And a Driver update would cause your card to crash when loading 5 year old game titels..
Or actually.. We don't need to imagine that picture..
Maybe the guy who vetted the Driver update, had a previous job at Crowdstrike.. But was let go from that position, due to performance issues at the job.. 🟦 💻 💀
8 year old PUBG works just fine 😂. GPU side is fine, Gsync on/off, 1 or 2 monitors.. Only thing is that I'am yet not entirely sure if 9950X3D and game mode core parking works as expected.
Wasn't PUBG known to run like ass when it came out?
Yeah it was bad, I think the graphics engine was mostly OK. More server and network lag
Thats how it looks in Ryzen Master ingame PUBG. Sometime few cores on the cacheless CCD1 go to "sleep" but 90% time they are active.
Power plan is balanced, just intalled latest AMD chipset
Alt+tab to dekstop puts load on the CCD1 and most of CCD0 goes to sleep
Performance is good thou
When in the PUBG game menu, limited to 60fps, all the CCD1 seems to go to sleep
Complete fresh installed windows or upgrade on existing install? For mixes CCD CPUs a fresh install is best
Fresh install with this hardware week ago
Or is it 2, time goes fast 😄
And the WIN11 media was created just before the install. First AMD chipset drivers were from Asus Motherboard support site but I've now reintalled them from AMD website.
As it before that shut down the wrong CCD 😢 🤦
I would really NOT want to go the Process Lasso route and set cores manually for each gam and application. Soo nice if it worked automatically
Is the game marked as game in Game Bar?
Yeah I think so. Tried both launching it from Steam or thru the game bar
Just notices that changing the Windows language still left the game bar to finnish 😄
no option, that means it is regonized?
Yes
CIV7, Helldivers2, Eshrouded and Valheim from steam also detected correctly. Satisfactory from Epic needed to check the box
And parks the wrong core?
For Satisfactory it seems to run on correct CCD but the another one is active too
Like this. I'am at dediserver, busiest spot on my save at nuclear plant train station. 170 fps all smooth, but can it be better if only run on the 3D cache CCD active? Maybe I just force the game mode an see.
well isent the other half running ocasionally normal tho?
the other side is meant to keep doing background stuff
like if it cant all be done on the performance CCD it floods over
Im not sure, thats why doing little testing myself. I've remember reading some review, or Youtuber say that if the other CCD is active, it can have negative impact on the 3D cache CDD. But atleast for Satisfactory at 4K with 5090, no noticeable difference. Need to play more
Might have been change from the original implementation, where the Windows was discouraged from trying to assign the game to the frequency-CCD by putting those cores into deep sleep.
Might be better implementation now where the core assignment is more intelligent.
In my last pic the CCD1 (without cache) is doing lot more than backround stuff
But it works well enough, at least for this amount of testing. Will just play the games with all cores active, or just the 3D side active, and see how it feels and shows on FPS counters
i have no idea how intensive your save is cause 170fps all smooth is empty save performance but if it is indeed not spilling then yea it just simply dosent recognise the game or know how to behave
I have exhaust fan in pc case that makes excessive wobbling noise for about a minute during bootup
it sort of goes away for a second if I 'hit gently' the outside perforated cage it is attached to
is it just a thing of low rotation speed or I should replace it before more damage is done?
Probably bearing starting to go.
The save is about 350h. Save the day done. One Uranium fully utilized for the nuclear. Standing this spot or at the rail station runs 170fps
is that with framegen on? if not than i need to get my grubby fingers on one of those
Yeah its DLSS balanced. But without framen gen, only AA its around 130-140, just below monitor that Gsync activates
hearing 100+fps after game completion feels so wrong
i get like 40fps on a good day
70fps PEAKS if i do every cpu optimization i possibly can to my save
Yeah this, had also once a fan that made some noise on boot. But went quiet after a while. The idiot I was, I didn't replace it. I don't know how long it lasted, but eventually, it "blew" up and shrapnelled my case. Nothing was damaged, but I found fan pieces all over the case. This was atlest 5-6 years ago by now.
i need a Baldur opinion on this
me no speaky german 🤣
Google translate?
sounds hilarious to me tho
i got a cookie popup that wouldn't translate so i didn't click on any of the options, couldn't get to the full article
The Asus Prime Radeon RX 9070 OC can be essentially converted into an Asus Prime Radeon RX 9070 XT OC using a BIOS flash, and also adopts its clock frequencies and power limits. The shader units, of course, cannot be reactivated.
The Asus Prime Radeon RX 9070 can now essentially be converted into an Asus Prime Radeon RX 9070 XT using a BIOS flash, and then also adopts its clock frequencies and power limits. The eight deactivated compute units of the Navi 48 XT and the missing 512 streaming multiprocessors cannot, of course, be reactivated, but this process is probably unique in its form and opens up entirely new possibilities for the first time.
for now
yea this pops up before i can read it
The fact that the Asus Prime Radeon RX 9070 OC, unlike the larger Asus Prime Radeon RX 9070 XT OC, only has to make do with two instead of three 8-pin connectors doesn't detract from the performance. A few other things are currently still under observation.
Why do I smell trouble in the water... (doubt that's a saying, but it is now)
People going to fuck up their GPU, then complain they don't know what happened.
yea i'd only try it with a dual bios
Currently, we still need to eliminate some minor instabilities in idle mode on the desktop, which are likely caused by the high core clock speed. More information will likely be available in the corresponding thread soon, and the PCGH editorial team will continue to keep a close eye on this exciting topic.
lol yea no shit
They know what they are doing ... right?
like how they put a Nissan Altima drivetrain into the Murano
shockingly, adding another half ton of mass burns out the transmission
I need Baldur for more context on this one.
How can a two 8 pin, perform, like the XT (which is a three 8 pin) and not cause issues? 😒
because the 8pin plugs are designed to handle 250% load
And if that works, why does the XT have 3x8 pin connection?
the 12VHPWR has fucked our perspective with a 10% margin. PCIe power cables are way overbuilt
Then why does XT not run on 2x 8 pins?
because it'd technically be over the limit
Regulations maybe?
it falls under the "just because you can, doesn't mean you should" standard
Fascinating story. I want to know how this is going to end.
it should be ok, but if you're using subpar cables, it might go poof
iirc Dawid tested it a few years ago
- I wonder how Nvidia will react.
- I wonder what Nvidia can do about it, if anything.
- I wonder if there will be GPU's burning up soon or people going to buy normal version and flash XT bios on it. And thus safe money. And hurting Nvidia.
But, my 3rd point. It can hurt Nvidia's revenue? If word gets out, why pay extra for XT version? 😉
The article does mention that the normal version will never be the same as XT.
Global market?
yup
That's a lot.
They gained a lot because of AI I think.
Maybe not gained, they become more dominant.
nvidia has a ton of big fat long-term contracts with retailers & prebuilt PCs that have to expire
and AMD has to put out a better product at a price tier plus get some of those contracts
look at how well ryzen has done since basically 2nd gen, & they're up to a whopping 24% market share vs intel
Because that doesn't matter as long as the pins don't burn.
But as they said that they are unstable, means the binning was done right.
yea, so it's more like a shitty 9070XT than a boosted 9070
And that chip they have on the card they flashed cannot do the higher frequency at same voltage as chip binned for 9070.
That doesn't answer why XT has 3 8 pins
That is just VBIOS OC.
Because to make card, you cannot count on more than 150W per 8-pin.
Either one is overengineered. Or one is performing above what it can handle.
Yeah, Cuyar was correct.
304W board design, so it technically needs the 3rd PCIe 8pin
idk if that's a regulation or industry thing
right, but they expect people to OC it, bumping it past the 375W
Even pulling 317W
Just that the third connector doesn't cost much, and "looks" better.
Same as so many MB coming with two EPS-connectors now.
(screenshot is from article btw).
like how i drive my car in sport mode even though i'm not a lead foot. i just like not having to move the accelerator pedal that much 🤣
my 6600XT red devil has 8+6 pin even tho it's a 160W board
talk about overkill
Speaking of sport mode, someone told me that after you drive in sport mode, before turning off the car, you need to drive around in normal mode for a bit before turning off.
mine's electric so i don't have to care
BUT! They didn't explain why ...
Only if turbo.
And honestly, I didn't believe em.
oil channels i assume
Turbos need to let cool down with coolant and oil still circulating.
Because all sport mode does in my care, is change in higher gears.
Or the bearings can fail much faster.
Ah, not gears. The word is slipping my mind.
CVT?
RPM!
oh
Changes shift points
Is that correct?
yea basically
rotations per minute.
Yep
shifts later in the RPM range were the most power is made usually
Yeah, so that's all sport mode does afaik. (for my car that is).
my car needs no suspension stiffening, it feels like a boulder going down the road
it's 15cm shorter than my last car, but 600kg heavier
i am the complete oposite everything i drive i want a curve throttle or somethign alike
i cant stand driving anything were even the slightest throttle input jerks you back and forth constantly
just dont use the brakes and then your good
useful for low speeds, but ew for cars
How does one pedal driving work? Where is the brake?
Do the brake lights also go on?
yup
Just regenerative braking, not braking braking.
this is for an EV btw
Ah EV!
But basically you adjust the speed directly with the throttle position.
Instead of asking for power or like.
yea you need a really stable foot for it
Traditional ICE throttle just controls how much air the engine gets, in combination with the RPM it is at.
And then fuel is fed to suit that air amount.
So very "convoluted" feedback loop between the throttle position and engine power output.
lol
imagine cut corners on it
*lifts foot
*intake slams shut, engine suffocates & dies
yep and thats how you end up with a car that dosent start or runs way too rich in the summer and makes way too much power in the winter because the air is way more dense
It would drive me crazy if I drive behind a vehicle and whenever they release the pedal the brake lights go on 🤣
Which is what happens on carburettor if the idle is tuned way too low.
As in how much air the carburettor passes when no throttle input.
that's actually the main reason i don't do it. i could probably get used to the pedal, but i don't want to subject others to my brake lights spamming while i figure it out
i discovered fuel starvation on a carb truck when i went off roading for the first time & drove up past 45° incline
Am I the only one, who doesn't accelerate sometimes, and doesn't brake either? I just let the car slow down on the engine itself?
i almost exclusively do that
but then again most the things i drive dont have brakes anyway
Skateboard?
you hit the brakes and either the brake lines aren't even fucking connected or they literally dont slow you down at all
no canada lol
@languid gulch The same color?
im not even surprised
That makes sense.
so many suv sales and suv's around in general now
Ok, what's the science behind colors and temperature? I know white* reflects heat. And black absorbs heat. But how can colors affect temperature?
the cars around here can be sumerised as esentially 70% suv's 20% trucks 10% random other cars
literally that. reflecting heat away vs absorbing & hanging onto it, while more heat coming in makes it even hotter
If I paint my PC case and every part white, will it suddenly drop in temperature?
But what's the science behind. I need to look this up.
technically yes
Not when internal heat.
But point was with sun caused heating.
Because color... is just a color... I understand materials holding energy.
also keeping it out of light will drop the temp by a bit
yea but not by much obviously unless your bringing it outside and into the sunlight and stuff
it's not a gigantic difference when it comes to "normal nature stuff", but 10-15C inside the car is definitely noticeable
Emissivity and reflectivity at specific wavelenghts of light.
I know it's from the outside, you can't reflect inside.
And if you would reflect inside a hardware component, you increasing temperature.
How much is reflected of the energy incoming from sun as various types of light, and how much actually heats the body of the car.
Yes, but why? I am looking it up though.
i have no idea but lighter colors reflect more of the light
White is when all visible wavelenghts reflect.
Other colors are when some of them have been absorbed by the thing we see as some specific color.
Isn't white the combination of all wavelengths of colors? If that's so, you could say it's "saturated" and reflects.
While black is the absent of color, and has more room to absorb wavelengths.
Yes, but with external illumination and color by reflection, that means all the various wavelengths got reflected equally.
And brighter white, more got reflected.
Sorry, for this side road. Haha, Cuyar was talking about his car 😄
Different from emissive color.
Suddenly wanted to know the science behind it.
The bigger L lenses of Canon are white for that purpose.
Because you don't want your lens to absord too much heat.
Atleast that's what my teacher used to tell me. Maybe it's just a gimmick.
It would make sense to go for the bigger ones since they have more surface.
Oh shit, I was right.
No, the real reason for the white finish is in fact heat reflection. With super-telephoto lenses having such a long barrel, and therefore more surface area to absorb heat, painting the barrel white means there's less chance of thermal expansion.
it's ok 🤣 idc that much. i'd rather people learn things they wanna learn than chatter on about my car
And on the other hand, if you want to EMIT as much heat out as you can, you use black.
But for that to work, that black object must be warmer than surroundings.
That's why they also wear black in hot countries that get ice cold at night.
What rims do you got on the car?
oh just the stock ones
Ah, I am a sucker for "cool" looking rims. It can really make a car.
i might swap out the tires because these just suuuuuuuuck
but not until they wear down more
16k on it so far, so a ways to go
Just go drift a bit on a parking lot 😛
i've never even floored it yet, i'm kinda scared to
it's not the most powerful car i've had, but definitey the highest power to weight
You don't need to floor it to drift haha
oh i know
But yeah, don't do anything stupid
idk if i could even put it sideways without it rolling
You should be fine ...
I don't know, do modern cars often roll?
american ones yes
bad cars
yup
well, tall cars
i don't mind it too much, i have a bad back. getting into small cars hurts
I don't care if it's big or small, I just like fun cars 😄
this bolt is definitely the most fun car i've ever had
no transmission is hilarious on the road
if you need to pass someone, it'll accelerate at 70kph like it does at 0
But it doesn't sound to be very good in corners.
Or let me correct, fun in corners 😄
for an american car it's actually not bad
it's really heavy, but it's all low down
1800kg with me in it
I never drove a mustang car but I heard one thing about it. Not even sure if it's true. But mustangs should be good in going straight. And that's about it
And that's the most American car I can imagine
oh yea american muscle is all about straight lines
In need for speed, I always tried to make a mustang that could drift 😛
mustang, camaro, charger, all are ok straight line & absolute garbage in corners
it's doable, but you need as much done to the suspension as the rest of the car costs 🤣
What I enjoy most in a car is having both speed and agility (with safety always in mind).
100%
If a car lacks speed but is very agile, I don't find it very fun 😛
i love having the regen plus normal brakes, it's definitely nice when i need it
I just realize, speed is the wrong word.
acceleration?
I meant (horse) power or acceleration indeed.
yea when i'm at the lead on a light, i'm usually 100m out ahead of everyone else after about 5s just because of the torque
torque & no shifting
you don't even really feel it once you get used to it
i had to drive my mom's car a couple months ago, & everything felt weird
For a while, I though I was going to miss the sound of an engine.
But I realized, that I never hear my engine because I always playing music 😄
So once EV is more matured, I don't mind getting one.
One thing I do hate sometimes is the fake grills.
i'm hoping we're in the 1900s-1930s experimentation with EVs, and the industry & regulators will finally get their heads out of their asses & standardize a bunch of stuff that's right now a bunch of wild west bullshit
I am mostly waiting for charing stations.
that too
And prices to settle down to see what's up.
So you want EVs to die?
Because I want to see the prices by the time the world is mostly transfered to EV.
gas stations 100 years ago also had no standards kinda like now with charging stations
nah, i want some things to not be inconsistent, like how petrol cars had no agreement on shifters, starters, pedals, etc until they sat down & all agreed to the same thing
I assume charging is cheaper per KM than fossil fuel?
sorry, meant 1900s-1930s with petrol cars
by a lot. even if i charged from dead to full, 400km would cost about $20 at the most
Crude electric carriages were first invented in the late 1820s and 1830s. Practical, commercially available electric vehicles appeared during the 1890s. An electric vehicle held the vehicular land speed record until around 1900. In the early 20th century, the high cost, low top speed, and short-range of battery electric vehicles, compared to int...
I think they are here to stay.
Just not sure in what capacity.
oh 100%, EVs aren't going away
Yeah, but where my original comment came from :D
Dumb question, does the engine need cooling for an EV?
Yes, same with battery.
Is that why they don't have grills on the front?
Because they just don't need that airflow?
Yes, but also aerodynamics.
Most have active aero intakes.
it doesn't need a full fat traditional car radiator, more like what you see for a transmission
Where they control with movable flaps how much cooling air is let in, as that makes the aerodynamic efficiency worse.
and cooling while charging can be as intensive as driving
Oh, the car needs active cooling while charging?
oh yes
Or heating in some cases during winter.
So it consumes a bit of power to cool-down/heat-up while charging?
& the faster the charging, the more cooling is needed
Battery must be kept in right temperature range to not lose capacity fast.
And at upper end you would get battery fire from the internal heat.
just like how your phone heats up when you do fast charging vs trickle charge
But, a phone cools down from itself right?
yea makes me wonder how BYD did that 1MW charge
@night girder somehow solved my fps drops. Updated system packages and added some steam launch args and played several hours without issues.
There are not vents are anything. What I was wondering, is that the car turns on cooling?
and rebar wasnt the issue.
yea, passive cooling on a phone is enough
Interesting.
Some phones can throttle from excess heat, even in use.
So while the car is charging, it's also wasting a tiny bit of energy.
what's really dumb is that the heater (at least in my car), since it doesn't have a gas engine, uses the absolute ancient "heating coil with air blowing over it" as the cabin heater
massively wasteful
Glad to hear. Hope it stays stable for a while.
Yup. I sure hope so.
Yeah, there has to be trade-offs.
Must be fun times for car engineers.
thankfully i almost never have to need it
New challenges.
Heat pumps cost more, have much more failure points, and only really work in specific temperature ranges, so for lowest temperatures, you need that direct electric heating anyways.
Why do they all look so ... I don't know.
i figured out why
i think it's a hark back
1969 Chevy Corvair. check out the front
It looks so weiiird.
was an air cooled rear engine
Maybe it's because I am focusing on it.
Like if I look at the back of the car and middle.
It's all 👍
fenders & hood look kinda like a corvette, and then.........wtf
But once I look at the front.
i know it can just be another body panel, but yea, give it some bling ffs
If only we could convert regular cars to electric. I don't want to drive a space car.
i know Ford's been messing with doing mass conversions
since you can buy the electric Mustang's motors & battery separately
Thing is, I am not buying any American cars atm 😄
Too expensive. I have to stick with the local brands.
yea, talk about throwing a wrench
I hope BMW does something cool.
would be interesting to see if there's any mercedes/bmw/VW conversion kits for older models
range would suck, but hey, no gas needed
Or just make normal looking EV cars.
that would be nice
I don't know, it's probably a engineer thing like Baldur said. But they look ugly atm. Too futuristic.
or do a big fat rebate trading in a gas/diesel for an electric
Aerodynamics to get the longest range is more important than looks in the end.
See 👆 Knew it.
Currently.
what shocked me was that we're up to 8% EVs in the US
Then on top of that base shape, designers do put some greebling.
i saw someone call the Bolt a jelly bean & i can't unsee that
But the base shape differences are from going for aerodynamics over the conventional car shape.
But then doing it in SUV, which is opposite XD
yea i bet the new VW bus loses about 20% range with that front end on it. looks like you're pushing a barn door down the road
Do you think that 8% has big impact on electric consumption? And if so, what did they scale up? Green energy? Or classic?
our solar & wind has picked up a lot in the last few years
Because that's what I am mostly curious about. I am not a non believer. Just sometimes still a bit skeptical about certain things.
I really hope that's the case. Because if they open more coal plants ...
Oh I forgot, I heard about that on a podcast.
They pumped a lot of money into it a while back.
we don't do too much offshore wind here (for now)
i wouldn't mind seeing them myself, lets me know that we're not sucking down oil & chewing on coal
But in reality, we buy a big % of ⚡ from Germany each year.
And that's mostly coal.
my area has the biggest NPP in the US, so we're basically set for now
Still a long way to go.
NPP?
nuclear power plant
I am not opposed to NPP as long as we keep transitioning to green energy.
i wanna see Thorium reactors now that we've solved the pipeline issues
We did what now?
yup
the main issue building it has been that the molten salt would eat through any pipes, we've apparently solved that in the last year
Yeah, China build one.
also with a thorium reactor none of the products can be made into a bomb
United States Researched thorium since the 1960s but abandoned for uranium
Can't you make thorium nukes?
nope
Ah, that's why it's so safe
best you can do is a halfway dirty bomb
thorium's just radioactive enough to heat up a bit, but can never hit criticality
We have to see what issues do arise from the new plant.
definitely
once they're up & running & stable, it'll also be one hell of a giveaway if you're wanting to build a nuclear weapon instead of just doing power generation
granted, uranium reactors can also be used to make stuff for nuclear medicine
& iirc thorium won't do that
but to me that's one of those things that can be negotiated & produced/managed at an international neutral location
Norway is also testing Thorium.
notepad++ is awesome 😄
a reactor is only really gonna be a potential bad sign if it's the right kind of design, a breeder reactor
they produce, as a byproduct, plutonium atoms heh
Not really the best option these days as it's more complex and expensive and as it turns out there's plenty of uranium
Like or not, right now nuclear is the cleanest energy source
Thorium isn't uranium.
And it works differently. At first glance, has more potentional than uranium.
and btw
nuclear is green energy.... outside of the mining which is used for any of those industries in some form it's only by product is heat and steam
three mile island was the last incident we had here and it was contained so... not to mention safety in that industry improves constantly so they're even safer now
Used to live near the Savannah River facility, honestly nobody there thought anything about it lol
Dad worked there for the GAO at the time, got a pretty neat tour although they wouldn't allow folks into the control room
It was... impressive
our wakeup call here was when some idiot in an ultralight decided to violate Palo Verde's airspace not too long after 9/11. F-16s scrambled & broke the sound barrier to get to him
when did that happen?
BTW a Boyscout build a nuclear reactor once... for a badge...basically heh. Although realistically that dude was going to build one regardless... he had everything other than enough uranium, he needed more
he did have a neutron source to get things tarted so he was a hair away from a working (and very dangerous) reactor capable of criticality
oh and... it was a breeder type if i recall as well so yeah some kid making plutinium atoms doens't seem like a great strat
"On Jan. 30, a small experimental airplane piloted by a photographer was able to fly directly up to the plant before being directed away."
Ah, can't read it.
the thing is he could fly into the building and do nothing important heh
We recognize you are attempting to access this website from a country belonging to the European Economic Area (EEA) including the EU which enforces the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and therefore access cannot be granted at this time.
those buildings can take direct small arms fire...
"being directed away" involved F-16s out of Tucson ready to shoot it down 🤣
aka, we don't comply with the EU. 🖕
Basically he would have done a bunch of money in superficial damage and... died
The reason I asked is, I've seen videos of interceptions on YT and it's pretty wild.
oh definitely, but it was not long after 9/11, and right as we were gearing up to invade Iraq. wasn't actually a threat but also what a moron
I couldn't damage the SRS with a van full of small arms, nothing important anyhow I mean I could destroy some offices
just a photographer in a small plane, but also, what idiot decides to fly a plane near a nuclear plant in the US as if nothing's going to happen
I blame traffic control
not sure what the regulations are on that but I'd imagine they are clear up to a certain altitude
just to keep air traffic out of the general area
yea, Palo Verde's far enough out to have its own airspace & be clear of Sky Harbor
Like try traveling into an airports bravo zone without clearance you'll get chewed out and probably have to make a call when you land
I've seen a video of someone not complying with air traffic control, until some fighter jets showed up.
People do stupid stuff in the air.
and if you don't respond and deviate you get the F-16 treatment lol
i have a hard time blaming anyone for it. we got to see 4 airliners turned into massive cruise missiles
I'm guessing he didn't even have a radio
I don't understand, it must be a privilege to fly, why risk it by doing stupid shit.
I don't think that's allowed here.
there are still rules regardless
afaik, we have strict rules.
...and common sense like maybe I shouldn't fly too close to that nuclear site
I'd be steering AWAY from a nuclear site if i saw it heh
imagine a dogfight against a f-16 and an ultralight heh
they could just jet wash him down :/
It would make more sense to send a helicopter
next minute you are face to face with an apache pilot
sending out F 16 is expensive.
pew pew
imagine if you could use drones vs F - 16's. That would reshape the battlefield.
i mean, russia's kinda trying that rn. not going too well tho
Not a crazy idea. Not sure if it's a viable one though.
isent that just essentially a fancy tracking missile
No, it's a drone
you could equip them with different weapons for different missions. And have the ability of speed. That would be cool.
those won't be a thing until supersonic fuel efficiency exists
The Lockheed D-21 is an American supersonic reconnaissance drone.
well yea, launched from a blackbird
"followed by at least four unsuccessful operational D-21 flights over China, before the program was canceled in 1971"
so not viable
But possible!
oh it's possible
i suspect that if the US found a need for it, we'd have one already
im supersubsonic
plus the sonic boom would kinda give away a surveillance drone
since when do you need a need for it? 😄
Not if you launch from homefront or outside enemy territory.
90% of the time it's really just to scare the shit out of russia & china
You launch quick, slow down to be stealthy and then return.
Yeah, that used to be the case.
we probably have so many high resolution low altitude satellites that could do the exact same job that it's unnecessary
that's what killed off the blackbird
Yeah, but we've seen what drones are capable of now.
oh strike drones sure
There are even "water" drones and such.
Pretty sure they are looking to see what else they can do now with drones. 1971 was more than 50 years ago
yea, 1 step better than a missile or torpedo, now you can have a person controlling it instead of hoping for sensors to work
And like I said, you can equip drones with weapons.
And the drones return. Cost effective.
yea, russia still doesn't really have a direct response to the Sidewinder missile 🤣
And drones dropping nades into trenches or tanks is scary AF.
Speaking of drones more general, our police force has special guns to shoot down drones.
it's just a big net they launch at it to capture it
check out the videos of japan's police drones that net & catch other drones
Exactly that.
gotta catch em all
Oh wait, not drones. Just a gun.
if you want some batshit fun, check out Phoenix police car catchers
naturally they had to be first with it
Phoenix police used a grappler to detain a suspect fleeing from authorities on State Route 51. The suspect was detained and booked on multiple felony warrants.

#grappler #phoenix #police #chase
seems so much safer than a pitch maneuver or whatever it's called
pit
yeah that one, it has risks.
100%
too many deaths with it
plus it's a pain to do it right
do it wrong and both cars roll
spikes are pretty great too. Little tubes to let the air out of tires if they get stuck into them.
spikes are ok, but i like the grappler. less risk to others
Yeah even spikes has risks if they keep on driving, which a lot of them do ofc.
plus you have to set up the trap for it
I've seen so many videos mostly in the US.
yea we've done a ton of crazy shit in the past, this seems like one of the less crazy ideas we've fielded
it does happen here too, but we don't send out helicopters to film it
there is some footage of police car dashcam and chases. But it's rather rare.
we do it on a delay so that they don't get warnings as to what's going on
they're in the air already
Good entertainment.
usually doing traffic or other local news stuff
Trust me, it's not a thing here.
i know 🤣 & LA is definitely the worst offender for it
But good content, so thank you for paying for it I guess
we had 2 collide a while ago on air, so we largely backed off of it
That sucks 😕
i remember it
ahh yes my favourite the alternative bluescreen
Image if windows told you that.
Well it just did

oh wow, crash was in 2007
2 competing news agencies had their own choppers up, circling, & neither saw the other until they hit
thankfully nobody on the ground was killed, but both crews were
That's rough ...
youtube has the video, but i'm not gonna link it here because you can hear the screams
I am good 😅
so yea, things obviously changed after that
i think we only do 1 news helicopter in the air now
Even with all regulations and rules (and technology), accidents in the air are still a thing.
yea, but it had gotten bad here, & we're not even LA. think we had 4 or 5 choppers at one point
Why is that even allowed?
learning the hard way. Let's hope there is a lesson learned here.
& i think it was the first time it had happened, at least with 2 news teams
there was im prettysure now they all just colectevely agree to use whatever helicopter reaches first and then share the same footage
and i think they do shifts instead of having them all up in the air at the same time
but i dont think theres a law so you do occasionally see multiple but there really shouldent be
i think channels 3/5/15 share a chopper now
"As of today, the five English-language commercial television stations in Phoenix share one helicopter under a pooling agreement, which is used by KTVK, KPHO, KNXV, KSAZ and KPNX."
In neither operation do pilots perform reporting duties.
Good. Sad it first had to come to this.
yea
and the pilots used to also be the reporter, with a camera operator on the side
so they were well known guys
they'd switch over to a camera looking at them in the helicopter when talking back to the studio
that's still done, but it's a dedicated reporter now
no fuckign wonder my gpu has been dying ever since reinstalling windows
my drivers wiped and windows installed either ARC drivers or corupted nvidia ones from like september 2024
no wonder its been acting like a 6GB card
december 2024 is the latest nvidia driver they recommend because the newer ones are all fucked
Whatsapp compressed this unreadable, but Helldivers2 core parking working correctly with whole CCD1 sleeping
Interesting how our local science method defenders and critiques would react to this
youtube.com/ watch?v=MLE-JrpnyyA
a reply to internal (guess from where?) document that allegedly 'debunks' rise of threat caused by climate
Regarding thorium reactions... youtube.com/watch?v=FLF8AWH0fws
from a nuclear engineer...
long story short they really only use(d) it to create uranium for the primary reaction
So minimum you'd get uranium from the thorium which goes to the primary reactor where it gets used as fuel as well as producing plutonium
not sure if the thorium side can do fast breeding but yeah...

Also Trump: "this is the formula we used to calculate it. As a weighted average, imported good will receive 41% tariffs."

Inevitable consequence: imported goods will (on average) see a price increase of 10.25%

Complete horseshit, and doesn't do what they say it does.
And the two "fixed" variables they put in it are just imagined and not based on any data.

Forget nuclear bombs, pandemic or AI going rogue. The damn cats are pulling all the strings and enslaved the humans
Giving cats opposable thumbs is worse than building skynet
lol just took the top filter off my case & it cooled down by 5C all around
might have to start underclocking my cpu & gpu

gonna be a toasty summer
https://youtu.be/IdA_fLC7WIQ some cats do have thumbs though they are not opossable
big cats tend to have a clawed digit in a spot where a thumb would go, and they use it to trip prey they're pursuing
that seems to make sense like a raptors claw used to rip appart thiere prey
they can concentrate on the other 4 landing properly when running
i've always had a profound respect for the bigger cats for thiere versitillity and understand how that campassion can lead someone to owning a housecat,my mother however can't have them chewing on her breathing tubes,it's the only reason we don't have one
oh yea as a cat owner they're 100% assholes
exactly lol
they can definitely be nice, but if they were any bigger they'd really try to eat you
and normaly it would even be ok if they didn't chew through them faster then we could replace them and that was with spraying a deterent on thiere they just seemed to chew through it faster, lol
must be some tasty plastic
actually i wonder if they interpret it as a snake attacking someone they like
i,dunno but thiere was a video with a kitten and a venomous snake and how they can dodge it and counter attack it,from what i heard it was actualy pretty amazing

one thing some game designers will never get is if you don't take the time to try and play your own game how can you expect it to be any good or even expect others to like it?that's why to me designing a game sould be just as fun and lucrative as actualy playing the game for yourself

yea i've never seen them do that. best i've seen from them is running around in a single room slowly dying
and yea, i don't ask too much out of them, but being able to operate in the environments thye construct is one of them
lol well some day you may be doing more it just depends on the direction you take now learning coding is one thing but also knowing where and when to apply it is another, and i am by no means an actual game designer but what i have learned from building my modpack is it takes a community to make anything worthwhile happen so you will always have to remember that for your fans and fellow beta testers
oh definitely
which is why it's so sad to see
it's also why i suspect it's a spite product designed to lock up the IP from being used anywhere else, & keep the quality garbage until it's truly worthless
but you see it more and more when they develop so many mindless shooters with no real direction to go,i mean any idiot can pick up a gun and shoot it but to create something that is worthwhile, that's where the real skills lie
yea, too many of them fail at the basics
nobody's willing to invest in the long-term viability, just the instant payout
and that's just it too many remain short sighted just on market investments and not the true entertainment value that the fans are paying for unless they have to buy additional dlc wich just becomes rediculous
and i know that people will judge a new game that's still being developed vs a similar game that's been out for years, has a reputation, and has had more years to add in more stuff
i suspect that it's just fear driving both sides. devs afraid to not put out enough stuff, customers afraid to invest into something long term if it's not a good game
