So if you don't do it all the time, you get hit by them like asablic says.
Wtf. Makes no sense.
We have weird laws, asked ChatGPT to summarize it for you
You make more electricity than you need, from a renewable source, can't they just sell it to someone who needs that power at the time?
Every wins.
Just not how the grid companies all over the world do it.
But it's free for the electricity company
Haven't looked more into the whys on why they do it.
In very random times, which they cannot trust before hand.
Costumer produces energy for free. Electricity company gets this extra/left-over energy for free to sell. And someone is able to buy energy for lower price. And it's renewable!!!
My guess is that you are overloading the grid by producing more and the company is punishing you for that
What is the main focus here? Profit or having renewable energy (a.k.a. saving the planet)? 🤔
So not intuitive.
Btw, here it's the same bullshit. That's why I have no solar panels.
Can you store the energy yourself?
Is that legally allowed?
Batteries are very expensive and almost everyone here choose on-grid solar panel system
Batteries are only worth it if you live in a remote location where there is no electricity
I mean, if you have a lot of energy, and you store it into batteries. You could technically go off grid?
So that means you only pay for the infrastructure. No monthly/yearly fees to companies?
I know this is forbidden in some countries.
And I am not 100% what the real reason is.
If you are off-grid and have batteries, you don't pay anything to anyone 🙂
Exactly. So what does it matter if batteries are expensive?
Are they more expensive than paying the company? 🤔
Not sure how long they last.
Enough will cost tens of thousands, and lifespan is usually calculated at 5-10 years.
But if your house is connected to the grid, it's cheaper to use solar panels without batteries
So total cost of paying company for years+ solar panels + all the rest, is cheaper than paying for solar panels and batteries?
Yes
If you for example generated 5.000 kWh in a year and consumed exactly the same amount or close, your bill would be almost zero
Yikes 🙈
If you overproduce here it feeds the grid and they pay you...
Now, imagine if you bought batteries and were in identical situation.
How much do you generate a day and consume?
Yeah, that is logical to me.
Your bill would still be almost zero but you just wasted money on batteries which you don't need
I thought about doing panels but they haven't made it cheap enough here...
I don't know what is the best. Would need to make my own excel.
I'd also never get off the grid... not even a chance
If it's possible, cheaper in the long run and legal. I would for 100%.
I wouldn't be able to resonably geneate the power I need...
There are times when I'm burning off 1000w 24/7 for weeks...months even
Off the grid would solve so many problems
No more insane power grids to maintain.
Underground grids. Above ground grids with drawbacks. Maintenance. Buying electricity from other countries etc.
Produce locally is always better imo. The shorter the distance between the goods and the destination the better. Also for food, clothes etc.
Need more nuclear plants.. tbh.
Yeah.
Love it or hate it, best current solution.
If you give every house a little nuclear plant, it's fixed.
@night girder ChatGPT made the perfect explanation:
T hat 's a concept... you'd have a fuel cell basically
every few decades somebody comes out and pops a new one in.
I only agree to nuclear as a transitional energy.
Small reactors are already a thing... I mean we aren't that far off heh
In short, when something doesn't make sense here, it's usually dumb laws
Honestly, I was thinking this; profit.
I have no proof of it, but I think profit is a big reason why they don't like people to produce more energy.
trhen the unintended consequences etc etc... ugh
Consumer rooftop solar is also very hard to balance over a day with the other production and use.
The duck curve is a graph of power production over the course of a day that shows the timing imbalance between peak demand and solar power generation. The graph resembles a sitting duck, and thus the term was created. Used in utility-scale electricity generation, the term was coined in 2012 by the California Independent System Operator.
If you want to produce a lot of energy and sell it (while being profitable), you are better off starting a company and installing solar panels over a large area
That's why I try to use the term renewable energy.
Which is broader than solar energy.
wind, water, solar and nuclear.
and geysers.
Yeah, but rooftop solar is only one that consumers can really install.
Wind turbines are installed in our backyards.
Ok I have a plan... hear me out. We all put little fans in front of our mouth with a tiny turbine to generate current. We breath, spins fan, generates electricity, boom!
Water should be technical possible too 🤣
Was about this.
The consumer production fucks up the overall generation planning etc.
Gotcha 👌
Farts are also energy. And they are wasted energy. What if we can make a way to turn these farts into electricity! Save the world!
Eat beans for days to get my 5090 running while playing SF.
Sure, in fact make fart pants turbines mandatory
all new pants must have a fart turbine
How dare all of you waste that precious gas...
and it's natural 😉
I'm a big fan of schemes that allow ordinary consumers to own a share of a new renewable build. In that way they can own part of a wind farm, and use it to offset their energy bill.
I don't recall what the technical term for it is though.
100%
Usually I save mine for a hillbilly hot tub. But I'm willing to make the sacrifice...
I would just think they could counter the low times of solar with other energy 😒
And problem solved? I am sure they could think of something. If they wanted. But the question is, how much do they want to solve these problems.
And how much are they afraid for change.
Because it's still big corpos running the whole elctricity scheme.
We still need big spinning things on the grid regardless. Maybe that's nuclear, maybe that's thermal storage or burning hydrogen being used to turn turbines.
And for example nuclear power is very slow to adjust to load demand changes safely.
Yeah, I know. It's not flexible. And you cannot say let's produce 5% now.
The only really adjustable power generation methods are water and gas turbines.
At least right now.
Yes, currently in usable way.
It's pretty hard, on the other hand, to control the weather and rotation of the planet to ramp it up.
But solar isn't 24/7.
If there was only a way to have solar satelites and send that energy wireless to our planet.
But afaik, we don't have the technology to send energy wireless over a long distance.
And it's both wind and solar that we're trying to work around because of the fact. So it doesn't make much sense to talk about ramping solar down, when we're mostly trying to cover the times when solar and wind aren't abundant.
And bringing the energy back and forth by other means don't sound efficient/plausible.
It depends on how toasty you want to get. Iirc lasers have been tested for this.
We were talking about adjustable energy. In that context it does make sense to turn off solar panels.
That's the point I wanted to make.
One of the more interesting projects I've heard of, but haven't seen any updates to, was large blocks of carbon being used for thermal energy storage, heated using excess grid power.
Run water through a few of those and you get high temperature steam needed for spinning a turbine.
The only issue is you need a lot of excess renewables to charge it up. But at the rate we're building, that might not be as big a deal.
That seems like it would be an adjustable source of stored energy though.
Now I stop because agony
I think this video still explains it pretty well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhAemz1v7dQ
What're recommendations for a 15/16in laptop in the 1200-1800usd price range?
Priority is battery life and screen
My first thought was xps15
My father's Kaby Lake XPS 15 is still running great with no sign of needing replacement. I think at some point they had a few bad generations though? Can't be sure.
It'd be new gen
I remember thinking aloud Lunar Lake or Strix XPS 15 would be really good, but you'd need to check some sort of 'what's new' comparison article to get a sense of where the lineup is these days in terms of quality.
did intel make 13th/14th gen cpus long enough to put the "fixed" microcode into it from the start?
My guess is they rely on the same method of patching microcode on boot, similar to how spectre/meltdown fixes have worked.
Functionally if they weren't the same, by now we would have seen people seeking out newer stepping 13/14th gen
Could be done with somewhat usable efficiency.
But then those same satellites would be weapons of mass destruction when pointed anywhere else than the receiving station, including if there is just targeting glitch.
LOL 9070XT "MSRP Upscaling" comments in GN's latest vid is great
Wonder if the GPU makers are again fucking around because of tariffs.
During the last set of Trump tariffs, they raised prices world-wide by lesser percentage than their extra costs in US.
To keep US prices lower, taking less profit there, but compensating by raising prices everywhere else too and taking higher profit...
"We cannot raise prices in US as our sales would get significantly lower" as explanation IIRC...
deliberate chaos with the hopes of increasting profit margin
tarriffs, short supply, claimed bells & whistles, any excuse to overcharge
It was obvious that EU importer/distributor level is/was scalping 9070:s at least on launch day.
Or possibly the card maker level above them, or both.
i wonder if we're seeing conflict between the gpu makers & the AIB partners spilling out into the open
So when the levels above the retail stores already scalped, there is nothing the store can do to lower the price.
Partly, as AMD lowered the MSRPs just before launch, and lot of stuff was already in channels and had to be sold/moved around to retail level with higher prices paid.
magically, none of the companies are willing to take a financial hit. whodathunkit
AMD promised rebates for retail level to compensate, but initial amounts were low in number of rebates.
i consider rebates to not count as msrp
Meant that the store gets money from AMD for each card sold at MSRP.
Not that the buyer gets rebate.
oh in any case
anything that costs the customer more
you know that a store is going to find a way to pass any loss on to the customer to make up for it
Yeah, but point was, that at least in EU, it seems the store prices were high because the levels above the retail store had high prices.
yea global launches really need to include global pricing for msrp & not just USD
Either card maker, or importer/distributor levels, or both, charging more than MSRP.
That is supposed to be the price, in USD, without taxes and tariffs.
So just converting to local currency, then adding the taxes etc., should be the local price anywhere.
i'm sick of all the caveats. regulators really need to crack down on what's a functional lie
in that case i'm happy seeing what the wholesale cost is and negotiate from there
AMD charges something for the GPU chip from the board makers.
AMDs official control on pricing ends there.
i just hate all of it. the customers get screwed no matter what & i'm beyond sick of it
i'm not even in the market, i just want to see it be fair for customers
When everything gets sold anyways, of course the selling side will raise prices if there isn't something not allowing for that.
Basic supply and demand.
Will go down once the supply side starts to fill up.
oh i know, i just hate it
i appreciate that Steve explained that paying $800 for a 9070XT is a higher premium than the Kingpin & Strix OC cards
Just too many people going "Just take my money! I need it right NOW!".
for no real reason
people keep hoping for a successor to the 1080Ti
i thought the 6800XT was it
Let's not make giant death lasers...
Baldur, what you think about the 8500T?
Is it good CPU for devices around 100-150 euro?
Because I am hunting for them now 👿
For CPU only, no.
For whole system, yes.
First, I was looking for thinkcentre, then I realised, the brand doesn't matter right?
For the use you were thinking.
So now I am looking for mini PC's with a 8500T.
And I find a few HP prodesks for around 130
8500T has 6 cores.
Which sounds nice to me ;3
It's still a mini PC. 130 euro is like buying the PI. 16GB ram (more than PI). CPU is better than PI also.
Just not sure the quality of a HP ProDesk.
Oh shit.
Still made for company/enterprise market, so good enough.
I just got a reply from somone.
Selling m920q for 200 euro.
I bid 130 euro. They say; ok.
Not that uncommon.
Yeah, I post a bid because the ad was up for two months.
That people put stuff for sale at high price, and then settle for much less when asked.
So I was hoping they are desperate to get rid of it.
It's a M920Q, 16GB and a 8500T.
Niiiice.
For me. Sucks for you Baldur 🤣
And I got a fort-in-progress:
@twin dew would like some advice; I wanna sell some old GPUs I have lying around (haven't before now cause of eBay shenanigans) but I wanna test them to make sure they work first. will swapping them in and out work fine for just a stress test or will a DDU each time be necessary
Not doing DDU should just cause performance issue.
So should only be needed after last one, when returning to your own GPU.
gotcha that helps
might cause a crash or two I guess but whatever, I'm just gonna furmark or 3dmark stress test them
gonna be a bitch buying and selling on a brand new eBay account without any ratings though
Shit, you really like valheim huh
If you do hit a GPU that crashes, then you should do DDU and retry.
Got obsessed in building that thing.
Not very efficient build from gameplay perspective.
It does look sick.
So many completely non-functional things in there...
Somehow this reminded me of Besieged
Yea they know there not gonna get full price so they just increase it so you get what you actually wanted to ask for initially
its just basic market place stuff
increasing the price to make up for lowballing and negotiating losses
Today I had so much fun chasing my own tail. ondragover html wouldn't fire in Svelte. So me looking into Svelte and why it didn't work.
But after a while, it turned out it wasn't Svelte 🙈 It was a Tauri setting.
dragDropEnabled
booleanWhether the drag and drop is enabled or not on the webview. By default it is enabled.
Disabling it is required to use HTML5 drag and drop on the frontend on Windows.
And ofc, intuitive as it is, I had to set that to false in order to get it all to work.
I asked the a developer of Tauri why, but didn't really get a real answer 🤷♂️
So to get dragDropEnabled you set dragDropEnabled = false?
Someone really smoking some heavy stuff because that's not logical at all.
Abandon ship fast.
As I understand it:
enabled = Tauri handles it
disabled = html5 handles it
That's not how I undertstand it
Better to use an enum.
dragDropBackend
Disabled
Tauri
Html5
Clear as day.
Mordern web dev is built on a mountain of technical dept.
That's pretty dumb. Also git blame exists so he would have been found either way.
I like that switch shape... those come in micro size?
Unless he purges history
looks like a standard toggle with a fun plate around it
but yes, i'd want about 100 of them too
i'd love to feel what the apollo chungus panel switches are like
And I do have some stuff on a board that is on a 4 DIP switch that I'd like to externalize
as well as a couple of the high end roll off internal pots... and the biasing pot for another pedal so it can have it's bias adjustted without opening
spring loaded to go back to center or no
just swap em all with surface mounted switches and pots
nothing self centers
Hoping this site ships my auditorium board soon, that thing will be super useful
i'd love to swap out some of my car's console switches for these
lets you test a pedals board before you install it in the enclosure. Has screw down terminals for all the leads you eventually solder to jacks, power, footswitch
No sound for you
oh with baked on 1/4 jacks on the board... slick as snot for pedal builders heh
was also like 25 years ago, & idk if that was a good time for that kind of hardware or not
yea this thing was a yamaha i think, with 1/4" & XLR for each channel
If it was a mixer it's going to be down to the preamps to a large degree
yea was just a mixer
assuming none of the pots or sliders are scratchy
if it has a good pre.. it'd still work fine. If it sounded ok then it'd sound ok now heh
Would just lack the modern conveniences mostly
would that hardware have been hit by the capacitor plague?
No idea
late 90s/early 2000s
not sure what capacitors were really hit, I'm sure it wasn't ALL of them
and a board like that is only likely going to have smaller components inside, nothing large is needed really
even for the power supply since they don't use much juice
yea true, i just have the kind of luck where i bet they'd all blow at the same time
hence why some of these boards and a lot of the interfaces are USB power only
i haven't looked at pricing or features in years
Can always open something up and inspect the caps
easy to spot ones that are swelling
oh i got rid of it like 15 years ago 🤣
Also those are easy to replace too since they're not SMD's
As soon as my next pedal is done the OG XBOX goes on the bench for cap replacement
they are just a bit domed at the top on mine, those big PSU caps
was fun to see buildzoid popping caps last week
Fortunately that's an easy console to get in to maintenance and i've hjad it apart before
just to show what it takes

That's on my wishlist of items... a solder reflow gun, hot air
it'll make my life so much easier for some shit
What's really fun is sending a lithum battery into thermal runaway
Those types of caps if not abused last basically forever too heh
T he one he popped there
i wish i had the space to have some of that fun stuff
right now i'm trying to find room for my bandsaw
a decent soldering setup does take up a bit of space
especially if you start expanding and adding hot air wands and stuff
Interesting beginning of the video
Zer00_Empathy comment especially.
Mixing solid polymer caps with basic electrolytic caps.
Yes, video creator mentions that.
It's just the way Zer00_Empathy posted their comment that I find amusing.
Is it healty to burn capacitors? I know they are small, but when they pop, does anything toxic get released?
They're safe
AI:
Some capacitors, particularly electrolytic types, can contain hazardous materials that may be toxic if leaked or vaporized. It's important to handle them with care and follow safety guidelines to minimize exposure to any harmful substances.
So I assume these aren't electrolytic types?
the danger is what they do when abused
that's a small one, large ones can hold enough of a punch to knock you back
Well, our friend is literally cooking them for 4-5 minutes straight at 360-400 celcius.
or kill you....
polymer caps are electrolytic caps where the electrolyte is polymerized and not liquid.
i mean, i wouldn't shove my nose right up to something that's just short of molten lead temps
There's a reason people use a wooden dowel or chopstick to poke around inside tube based amps lol
When you want to make a point, but the motherboard isn't cooperating 🤣
Yeah, I am just wondering what he is doing is smart or not.
Maybe he should do it outside 🤷♂️
it's fine, nothing there will hurt him
Ah. He opens a window.
eh, i did dumber when i was younger & don't have cancer yet
that's about as violent as a cap that size will ever get heh
i just love the raw confidence in the claims, followed by a guy just popping them without much effort
toxic can also be dangerous... or not.
I handle a toxic substance on a regular basis... lead.
everything has a LD50
as long as im not putting it in my mouth or handing it with broken skin I'll be fine, now breathing the solder fumes is bad bad
I mean, the way he heats the capacitator isn't the same as a capacitator would heat normally?
In the sense, he heats them from the outside at very high temperature. Normally it would heat from the inside no?
So could this give different effects as cracking open at top vs popping off?
Channeling Dunning–Kruger very strongly.
Yes it would normally get hot from the inside if it's overloaded, but either way the polymer reacts the same
it swells... doesn't matter if inside heat or outside
it might be harder to pop from the outside since the board's absorbing a fair amount of heat, as is the traces that would normally be putting current into it
plus like i said those polymer caps last basically forever unabused
good point.
But polymer caps like that don't have the safety valve cuts, because in any normal fault situation they don't do anything weird.
what did he have the gun set to? i skipped ahead so if he mentioned i didn't see it
that gun is cable of getting super super hot
or barely hot...
While the classic electrolytics have cans that are designed to vent safely.
and like he showed, it takes a fuckton of "definitely not recommended to do this" do make em pop, but if you have some idiot who takes a smoke break & forgets to turn off the heat gun..........
Yeah that's what the slits are in the top of those caps if yiou see them, to allow for some expansion without an pop
containment is what causes them to explode... although that size calling it an explosion is a joke
Nah, meant to split, if it has started to bulge then the cap is already gone.
well they fent and keep the pressure out is what im saying
yea that's not even on the scale of one of those little champagne poppers
if it can't swell it will explode eventually
fun fact: humans can do that too
🤣
Yeah, but point was that the normal electrolytics are expected to have failure modes where they need to vent.
Polymer ones don't, so even full on short circuit in one shouldn't cause that kind of pop.
Isn't an explassion a rapid expansion (swelling?)
It's for the same reason they'll drill a hole in your skull for a brain injurt
oof
from what i know a detonation breaks the sound barrier, a conflagration doesn't, but both can count as explosions
The chemicals inside decompose, and cause increased pressure inside the can, and at some point the can fails hard.
From that very high heat.
Respect, 25 minute video to show they pop and not vent.
How to win a internet discussion.
that kind shouldn't need to vent really
Not the point. It started with a comment.
Of someone that was 100% sure about they vent.
So he made a video to proof they pop. That's all there is to it afaik
yea, hydraulic press channel ftw
And that one you won't put out with what you got at home
electronics, my kryptonite.
i remember seeing the aftermath of some of the 1st gen magnesium wheels. burned thru the asphalt down to the dirt
i also like to freak out people with gas cars to let them know that 1L of petrol is the same energy as 8 sticks of dynamite
Imagine getting this after buying a 9800 X3D
https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/cpus/fake-ryzen-7-9800x3d-bought-from-amazon-was-actually-an-old-amd-fx-chip-disguised-by-ihs-sticker
Bot sleeping yet again
😉
they couldn't even put it on a fake AM5 IHS?
man... a fx
yea i was gonna say its not even AM5
"The outer packaging of this new sold-by-Amazon chip looked perfect, though." yea i call BS
why not just go piss on them too... might as well
Well it's unlikely Amazon itself has counterfeit chips
that low rez sticker tho 🤣
what happens with the 3rd party sellers... that's up to somebody else to roll those dice
Yeah not buying it then
he posted the paperwork for it
the same way rocks are sold as a gpu
pretty sure i could use a sharpie & do a more convincing fake than that dogshit silkscreening on the sticker
and I mean, the one who supplied amazon with the 9800X3D
or someone inside the warehouse stealing/replacing em 🤔
it was properly sealed, so good question
is amazon doing "proper" resealing of returned products & reselling it as new?
Or amazon received a bad batch. All fakes 🤣
Or just scammer stock, Amazon mixes items from everyone selling "same" thing.
My mom ordered Apple Airpods from Amazon. They came she opened everyhting up and got to the product box... opened it. Empty, no buds.
I don't want to be the intern at amazon having to go through em all to find fakes 🤣
So even if you buy from reputable subseller, you can get fake that someone else sent in as "same item".
can you do something like use a heat gun to pop a seal sticker & then re-adhere it after you pull the fraud?
I used to have access to heat shrink stuff so yes
and heat tends to let you remove stickers
i feel like the seal should do a color change or something as a tamper indicator
Wdym?
Well they do have a t amper seal i thought
That the vendor selling to amazon, was selling a returned one?
Aris says that this 9800X3D was bought new, not used or returned, from Amazon direct, rather than a third-party seller. The sealed packaging seemed genuine to him.
Could even be internal shrinkage
Company A sells Item X on Amazon.
They send stock to Amazon warehouses for any sales.
Scammer Company B sells fake of Item X on Amazon.
They send stock to Amazon warehouses for any sales.
Amazon puts both companys products into same bin as they are "the same item".
And whenever someone buys one, from either, you get random unit from the bin.
So, yeah. As I though. Shady supplier. I mean, as a possibility.
to me amazon & AMD should both be on the hook 50/50 for refunding. hopefully that'd get them to do some actual headhunting vs the fraudsters
Can be return scam.
Can be seller scam.
If my supplier, ships returned items as "new" to me, I would not be amused.
And that that the "equivalent" items (based on item code) are mixed is just so stupid when fake items being sold as real is so common.
I don't know if AMD is really at fault here.
How could AMD be in any way responsible?
Isn't it hard to keep track of where their items go? They can sell it to suppliers, but they sell it to other traders and on and on it goes.
Once they sell it, it's kind out of their control.
I would assume, the one who sells it directly to consumers needs to do some sort of quality check.
Not quality, but to make sure it's legit.
And why would you expect that anyone AMD related has ever even seen even the box in which that thing came in?
If it was seller fake and not return scam.
I didn't say that 😒 That was Cuyar 😛
Sorry, wasn't to you, continuation of previous message to Cuyar without using reply on either.
Point earlier was that even if you buy from "AMD" on Amazon with "Fullfilled by Amazon", you can get fake from some other sellers stock, as Amazon mixes them together.
idk, just seems like if they valued their products enough, they'd put some fraud protections on it, & if not, they become financially responsible for the loss. and can be free to hunt down & prosecute the people committing the fraud with their products
it's obvious that amazon choosing to mix returns with new is a bad business decision that guarantees fraud makes it into their supply chain
There aren't any perfect anti-tamper techs.
The one AMD CPU boxes has is on the higher end.
true. but then that means that AMD should be pressuring amazon to not mix new & returned stock
imagine if we could buy straight from AMD
could you imagine if it was medication that was getting returned with swapped ingredients?
Point is that no-one should have been buying anything from Amazon for years at this point.
But you just keep doing it.
they*
yea, they. think the last thing i bought on amazon was a gpu jack stand
i'm not about to buy something valuable on there 🤣
I use local stores and stuff.
i like to feel a product in my hands before buying it

I could play this prison simulator game... if i coudl stop beating the snot out of all the prisoners...
They thought they were lining upt o go to the workshop, my nightstick had other ideas.
how does that not sound like a prison
i think i asked this before but is it normal for suround to be forced enabled when 3 of the same monitors are conected with no option to turn it off in any way
or is it just because im using the 3DP conections and if i make one HDMI then it will seperate them
because i want to use all 3 of my 1440P monitors but i dont want them stuck in ultrawide
so i have to use 2 and keep using my 1080P monitor and just have one sitting off all the time
does the nvidia software allow you to set monitors at different refresh rates?
haven't gotten my 2nd monitor set up yet, but under amd i'd have to shut off my 2nd monitor so i could bump the main one up to 144hz
Steve Burke probably doesn't realize he looked like a scalper when he tried to order all those GPUs. It wouldn't surprise me if a manual review process on orders resulted in someone just canning all of his. Depending on the how much effort he put into disassociating his orders from one another.
Fairly sure u can set that individually.. At least i know u can with AMDs software.. And Windows as well..
i'd get screwy screen blackouts when i'd try to run my main at 144hz & my 2nd at 75hz
it's like every couple minutes the refresh rates would desync or something
do you have g sync enabled?
I had a similar issue with a 144hz screen and 60hz tv connected simultaneously
turning g sync off fixed it
will try that once it's "fully" up & running with the 2nd monitor
i keep forgetting that the beef i have now will max out my monitor, so i don't need to have any sync stuff on
ok how the hell do i have 7 extra C13 cables
Probably cable issues.
Interference from one cable causing the other cable to get marginal.
And the link then gets renegotiated time to time.
Not AMD GPU or driver issue.
But very typical of DisplayPort cable running past what it can do.
That monitor is switching between uncompressed and compressed modes on each blackout.
possibly, will need to do some more screwing around
The stupid thing about that DP behavior is, that if the cable connection was just tiny bit worse, it would just run with DSC all the time, and you wouldn't notice anything.
But it gets bad moment, switched to DSC.
Then after time it switches back as the connection seems to be good enough to work without DSC.
And then another bad moment and another switch to DSC.
yea, might invest in the new hdmi protocol
Or just new cable?
i'm on hdmi rn
just 1.4 i think
it doesn't black out nearly as often, but it still does
Ah, ok.
Then shouldn't do that kind of switches, but probably loses the signal sync.
But HDMI on edge would usually first cause snow.
But AMD cards should be able to do two completely separate HDMI streams.
with my old system, yea, that definitely could have been bad cables
that layout involved the cheapest & longest cables i could find 🤣
after watching the LTT vid on cable quality i'm actually kinda surprised i got any signal at all
plus since it's a top end system i'm not going to be going cheap with something like cables in the future, might make everything active
Depends on the length.
5m is usually still completely fine with passive cables for DP1.4 and/or HDMI 1.4.
10m might work, but going to active at that point is usually good thing.
For lower end DP2.1 or HDMI 2.x new bandwidths 5m will probably need active, but 3m probably still works passive with good cables.
yea, i'll be hunting down some hdmi 2.1 actives, since DP is so finnicky
and since it's a high enough data rate to max out my monitor & even a tier above it
w/o DSC
not likely common problem?
because i cant find anything on this
basically all 3 get automatically merged into 1 with no option to disable it
it guenuenly just straight up tricks both surroudn and windows into thinking its one ultrawide monitor instead of 3 seperate
so much so that unplugging them wont change anything until all 3 are unplugged
and if you replug all 3 while in windows it has a BSOD that nerver fully trigers bricking itself
😂
im gonna try to swap one to HDMI tonight and see what it does
i have a feeling its being merged by the gpu because there all on DP
That is something your GPU drivers are doing, and should be in GPU makers software to disable.
surround dosent work it just insta crashes because its confused and geforce experience dosent have anything monitor related?
GeForce Experience isn't the Nvidia settings thing.
Control Panel or NVApp are.
where would what i need be in control panel?
No idea?
great start
NV control pannel is dead when its stuck in that mode
insta crashes
its out of the question
thats why im saying its likely done at a non software level
surround only works if 2 or less monitors of the same resolution are conected at a time so you can do 2x1440P+2x1080 no problem but as soon as you do 3x either it gets stuck in permanent surround
thats what iv colected in terms of info from the experimenting i did
Then do DDU cleanup and reinstall?
Because that crashing isn't normal?
Or when was the last time that was done?
You have been told to do it many times, but AFAIK you have never actually done it.
it isent but its consistent with with it trying to merge at 165HZ
it either fails to lower to 120 and like i said dies in a fire or spends like 60 seconds beeping at you until it eventually gets it all right at 120
so thats a completely diffrent problem
that i dont care to fix because its irelivant
i dont want surround to work i want it NOT TO WORK
i dont want it on bruh
And point is that your GPU drivers are fucked and need cleanup and reinstall?
Doesn't look like much but that'll be here ready for me to assemble in a couple of days and will make my life much easier..
im not wiping drivers again because the newest one is borked and then i have to spend forever downgrading
Why would you need to downgrade?
Just install the one that you want?
Don't use the stupid autoinstaller, use the right manual installer.
newest one gives me compatibility issues
And how is that relevant to what I wrote?
because if i wipe it then il be stuck on the new one
How?
If you never install the new one but install older one?
You can download and install almost any Nvidia driver version?
When you don't try to use the automatcher, but get manual installer.
im telling you now DDU and drivers wont fix it
Anyways, the link to 566.36 drivers:
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/drivers/results/237719/
Or did you need to be on even older ones?
AFAIK that one works fine, and 572.x:s have various issues.
il still try it but im going to stand my ground on the fact that im confident it wont work because every problem i ask for help for always circles back to drivers and it nerver is the issue
And when did you last do DDU and reinstall then?
Because it is usually recommended to you, and then you don't do it as you "know" that it will not help.
nerver been recomended a DDU in here
atleast not that i can remember
only thing similar would have been that "proper" windows install forever ago
like the ram issue i was having with my laptop wasent a driver issue at all its just windows memory management that corrupts if you enter sleep mode with too much ram
Last time I said it to you.
2025-01-13.
that one was a joke of a reccomendation
No it wasn't, you had issues that were almost certainly broken Nvidia GPU driver related.
gpu driver reinstall because i sent a screenshot of me managing to max my cpu ussage using only satis
That you ignored them doesn't mean they weren't valid.
Common issue.
no shit sherlock running 3500 trains all at once while also recording eating up like 30% of your cpu would max it out
Common issue with common fix.
No.
Common issue with Nvidia GPU drivers on 1.0 if they haven't been cleared in certain timeframe, and first installed version was too old.
Not the currently installed version.
The version that was first installed after Windows install, or last DDU run.
And if you are on year old drivers, why?
Because if you have some weird issues with newer ones, that is almost certainly not the drivers.
because there stable
And that was the point, that 566.36 is stable.
Unless you have OS or HW problems.
And is from last December.
So 9950X3D has no downsides compared to 9950X, except higher price.
Just cases where the game isn't detected.
not by enough to matter but yeah... and with the 3d cache not helping with productivity so much... heh
So the other core doesn't get parked.
Almost seems like a chip that doesn't need to even exist lol
You can mark those manually as games, or do manual core assignment.
But that always happens, always has always will I guess
The one chip that makes you go "but... why?"
Point was that 7950X3D was behind 7950X in production because of the lower clocks.
And had the same core parking problems when game isn't detected as game.
So if you needed that production side, then you had to think way more which to get.
Now there isn't difference there, only higher price.
7950X3D with one CCD disabled will always be faster than 7800X3D, because of higher clocks.
But lot of games aren't yet marked as games in Game Bar, so the auto-parking doesn't work properly by default.
Trivial to add, but you need to know how to check
Win+G, Settings icon, tick:
For example Factorio still isn't game in that DB.
And if that toggle isn't there, then that program was marked as game already by default.

Does anyone have the knowhow to help me identify what pins are possibly locking the ratio of the pentium b940
Nothing you can unlock.
Things burned inside the CPU die.
Default when manufactured should be "multiplier unlocked", and Intel then after binning burns a fuse inside the die to "multiplier locked" mode, which cannot be undone.
How odd. As a later cpu was able to be unlocked. Via shorting contacts
A i7 4770HQ
Normally locked was able to be unlocked by sheer accident
Any url?
A static shock to the laptop made the cpu operate
Not url. My own laptop I had years ago
There's some Info on tpu for core 2 duo era cpus getting pins and pads shorted I can provide
More likely you got one-in-million and the static shock made new connection bypassing that blown fuse in a way.
Instead of killing the CPU.
Fuck I wish I still had that laptop
I got that thing doing like 1.7ghz on the igpu and like 3.6ghz on the cpu cores
They better release this to PC in a year https://youtu.be/HdzIwQhYABQ?si=oRnjKSXIxFaER3lh

Ah, walk simulator 2. Nice.
you hike for miles over hostile terrain fighting people and creeping through haunted territory avoiding ghosts you can only see when you stand still. you get to an isolated prepper's shelter, connect them to the internet, and suddenly the route back is populated by other player's structures like ladders and bridges, making the journey easier. you give them a Like and they give your structures a Like and you're never so thankful for other players existing
whole game is a vibe
game of the year
also goddamn in an era of micro transaction loot shooter live service hell it's so refreshing to see a whole new idea
A fan.
The only thing I liked about the game is that they added Conan O brien with 3D scanner lol
you can watch the epsisode of conan visiting
i wonder if kojima knows they're friends yet
CONAN Highlight: Hideo Kojima’s highly anticipated video game “Death Stranding” features Norman Reedus, Guillermo del Toro, and Conan O’Brien.

Still, respect to Hideo Kojima. He has a vision and believes in it. Dares to take risks/do something new in game development.
Which is kind of rare in these modern times of game development.
he got fired from konami, built a new game studio from scratch, had his idea, improved upon it with others, took on feedback, pushed through naysayers, and put out a triple-A class game independently as a first release
then covid happened and suddenly it was all too relatable
Only develeopers that came to mind that have a vision (borderline stubborn sometimes) are;
- Path of Exile developers. A certain Chris I believe?
- FFXIV - Yoshi P
meanwhile konami made metal gear whateverthefuck survival? i can't remember
Don't know ... didn't hear about that one
they took the metal gear solid V engine and made a survival crafting zombie game in it
Last one I played was pretty funny. Dropping animals out of helicopters and stuff. But that was ages ago.
it is not kojima
Also had some questionable female body designs...
metal gear solid 5 I believe?
Yeah, I like it as a game. Pure gameplay, humor, etc.
Sort of sandbox with tools we can use.
mgs3 is my favourite
I just had a great time. That's all I remember.
highly recommend you play the mgs3 remake, metal gear solid delta
im on version 560.94 so yea nerver updated them or maybe once
i can tell i updated the driver because my gpu fans just ramped up loud enough the neighbors may aswell have heard them
Ah nice weather today... got some shop time in.
Went ahead and started a new pedal build, almost finished.
k, dumb question time
with AMD still putting out AM4 cpus, are they still making fresh ones, or just riding out what margins are left on crappier & crappier chips
cuz i kinda wanna see a 5950X3D
Hello I'm looking for some general advice on this PC build I've been working on the last few days, ik this isn't really the place for it, but I've not had great experience in places flooded with hardcore PC gamer types. My budget is ~$1,500, I plan to use it mostly for gaming but I do mess around with stuff like photo/video editing so I'm avoiding a gaming-only CPU like the X3D series. I also don't plan on doing more than 1080p resolution wise anytime soon. I'm on Linux (Mint specifically because I'm by no means an expert on the technical), so I'd prefer to stick to an AMD system. I'd appreciate any feedback or comments from people who might know more than I do and can see flaws that I can't. Thank you!

Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 9700X, Radeon RX 7800 XT, Fractal Design Focus 2 ATX Mid Tower
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 9700X, Radeon RX 7800 XT, Fractal Design Pop Air ATX Mid Tower
swapped:
-cpu cooler
-ram
-SSD
-case
-PSU
the cooler's basically impossible to beat unless you have a power-sucking top end cpu, the ram & SSD are more reliable, case has included fans, PSU is (i think) a bit better.
which leaves just a bit left in the budget that if lightning strikes, you could grab an MSRP 9070XT instead of the 7800XT and be just under your $1500 target
I appreciate it, I forgot to mention that I’m specifically avoiding glass cases because I frequently need to move my PC and I just absolutely do not trust myself or others around a glass case. I also only have room for it under my desk so seeing into the case does nothing for me.
Everything else looks good to me though
the case does have a solid side panel option
Oh alright cool then yeah this is good, thank you very much
& the PSU option is close enough in quality that you could go with the one you found, both are decent brands with good reputations
just figured i'd shave another $10 off
Yeah fair enough, I’m not really picky about brands so I’m good with saving $10 lol
ngl i tried my best to get a higher tier cpu in it, but it was going to really cost you in other areas
you did decent 🙂 really the only swapouts "needed" were ram & ssd, those felt a bit too cheap, & nobody likes having their drive crap out on them
tbh since I’m only planning on 1080p, I’m more than happy with the power I’d get with this CPU and there’s always the possibility of upgrading later down the line
And yeah I cheaped out a bit on that end to compensate for the case fans
oh yea this'll be a great platform to upgrade with. AM5's going to be around a fair bit longer
yea that was $125 in case+fans
pop air has its own for like $90
& ngl at $24 each i'd just jump right to Noctua if you're not going for rainbow unicorn vomit
you got super power of unlocking i7 4770hq
ISP engineer just paid me a visit for connecting home to fiber 🥳
Planning or already welding/splicing the connection to home termination box?
i have 2 x 8GB ram rn, should i buy 2 more or get 2 x 16GB?
Planning construction from a fiber distribution cabinet across the street towards my home fence
Once they are done with the construction, they will send a technician to pull the fiber towards my home and inside home
Depends.
What CPU, and what speed is the current RAM at?
ryzen 5 5600x and 3200MT/s
some friends said occupying all 4 ram slots would make it slower so rather get 2 x 16gb
So pretty high chance that any extra RAM can work at the same speed, and even if it doesn't, the spec speed for 4x 1R would be 2933MT/s, so not great drop.
But going to 2x 3600MT/s RAM would give better performance from higher IF frequency.
aight, thank you 👍
Going from 2x 1R to 4x1R at same speed would give about 10% RAM subsystem performance boost from extra bank groups.
But more ranks and DIMMs means slower max frequency.
Which is why needed to know more.
aight i see
On DDR4.
ye
Nice. When I got my fibre installed in 2014, it took almost 6 months from the point the excavator left my yard to the point that they came to fusion splice it and get working.
Interesting stuff with the portable suit case sized welders/splicers
I work for the ISP and I can speed up the process though 🙂
The construction usually lasts 3 to 6 months but they could do it faster
And once a customer demands migration from copper to fiber, the realization deadline is 60 days
Technicians in my city are probably overloaded atm since a lot of area was covered with fiber in less than 1 year
Hopefully, the company will hire additional workforce since technicians can't keep with a lot of customer demands for splicing fiber inside home
OK . or me it was partially goverment/EU funded project. If there were enough poeple preodering, they built networks to long distances even in rural areas. Luckily there were enough dairy farms who had interest in proper internets.
It was actually kinda fun to OC that thing as it took so well to haveing more power
How did you know this lol? 🤣
Half of the city that was not commercially viable was co-funded by EU and the rest was 100% financed by ISP
I am actually a member of the project support office related to EU-funded projects 😅
Basically, EU is funding areas where not a single ISP wants to invest because it's not financially viable for them
Not financially viable enough.
ROI needs to be few years max today for that...
When the build will stay viable for decades.
Yeah, in numbers the town I live in has 3500 people, is 973,38 km² area, and received about 800.000€ EU funding for the fibre network in 2012-2015
Don't know the about the investment return period but in the past return periods were 10 years and they probably reduced that by half
Or even more
But funny thing is that the town center does not have fibre everywhere. My friend has construction company and they will do small areas next summer
ISP that serviced those areas said "no", and so EU funding for that area wasn't available.
As any fiber built with EU funding needs to be "open access", but any completely privately funded can be closed.
We received around 58 milion euros for 13 cities and surrounding municipalities
And if there is ISP servicing area, they can block funding too, even if not yet fiber.
Private monopoly is ok to be protected from public funded network...
Even when that private monopoly ISP would have access to the fiber afterwards like anyone else.
Result of some lawsuit by ISPs EU wide IIRC.
Here, all ISP infrastructure needs to be "open access" no matter if the infrastructure was funded by EU or 100% funded by ISP
Regulating agency forced that law for all ISP's and they need to rent copper/fiber to other ISP's
In Finland that is/was only the case for copper phone lines.
But not for fiber or cable.
So died with ADSL.
Biggest problem with fiber deployment here is waiting for building permits from city which can take a while because of beraucracy
Not to mention my crazy neighbor who prevented ISP from installing fiber distribution cabinet near the apartment building because it's obstructing the view from her balcony...
She got sued by ISP btw and police arrived lol
Since we have all building permits and everything is 100% legal
Imagine if city wanted to replace old street lights with led and then someone suddenly prevented the city workers from doing construction because they don't like the color of led
Those people are the reason we can't move forward and they only prevent the human progress
im gonna drop a bad take but idc 30fps is enough on a laptop
30 is never enough
I didn't sludge my way through shit home consoles and crappy early PC gaming as 12 FPS if you're lucky to settle for 30
I didn't wanna learn rust but then I got high
i agree we need more but laptops just dont have the battery life or performance to handle 60 so fuck it
I didn't wanna sit here and code... but then I got high
Now my brain feels like a giant soggy rust sponge and I know why...
i lock all mobile devices i have at 30fps and my pc's at 60fps
I get what you're saying though
in all seriousness, like if a laptop isn't a beefy gaming laptop it can be ok... for some things
Like if I load Civ 5 on my laptop I couldn't tell you the FPS, never looked. I just know it's smooth enough.
Then again it's probably running at 60. I don't do any heavy games on it outside of streaming them to the garage from this desktop via Steam or something
Also works great for XBL for PC cloud streaming but apparently all that is required for that is a potato and an etch-a-sketch
if my laptop isent plugged in its basically just incompetent
13620H and 4050 yet i cant even get 10fps in satisfactory
unless im plugged in
on medium settigns no lumen
like come on bruh
and if im plugged in everything goes to 100C and starts dying
so i just gave up
il go back to being content with 720P30
This syntax is so weird.
In other languages, you don't need to do unwrap. Neither path.unwrap().path().display().
Which makes no sense. if you unwrap a path, why is there another path object? And why do I need to call .display() on it so I am able to print it as a str.
Ok, reading the documentation it kinda makes sense.
Both a lot of languages would do this under the hood. Without calling .display() explicitly.
When you unwrap a value in Rust what you’re doing is taking out the underlying value out of some container.
However, some value when unwrapped will cause at runtime panics to be raised, crashing your application.
Seems to be you are getting bad advice on how to do something.
I like it
And the reason for that
Is Rust's handling of "null" (none)
A Path might contain non-Unicode data. This struct implements the Display trait in a way that mitigates that. It is created by the display method on Path. This may perform lossy conversion, **depending **on the platform. If you would like an implementation which escapes the path please use Debug instead.
Its good though
Yeah, first time coding in Rust today.
Its hard to get used to
And more rigid than anything else I've ever used except for ml
Point was that path.unwrap().path() part.
Well most of it makes sense. it's just a lot of extra calls atm.
Not that .display() that outputs it as specific kind of string for display.
Like I said, feels like rust gives more control. Does less under the hood.
You seem to be taking path, then unwrapping it, then wrapping it again.
No, not at all.
There is some cleaner looking syntax for that
But if you're worried about the performance, Some<> is mostly handled at compile time
And unwrapping doesn't have much overhead at all
Point in my code where I wrap again?
That's all the code I wrote in rust atm.
that .path() possibly.
Path is comming from front-end.
You get something, then you unwrap it, then you run it through that .path(), and then you use the display() on the result of the path().
But without knowing what you are unwrapping, cannot be sure.
without .path() I get error.
This is probably a good place for .map() and a closure
path.unwrap().display() is nto possible.
Point was, is that .unwrap() necessary?
path.unwrap().path().display() is possible.
Or can you just run .display() directly on the value without unwrap or path.
Because you are running unwrap earlier too...
Lets see what that fs::read_dir outputs as type...
Trust me. I think there is a reason the code is as is.
Since it compiles and works.
You need to umwrap
You get iterator...
And instead of using the iterator, you unwrap it to some kind of array...
Least of my worries is performance when using rust 😉 (since it's fast).
anyone know about vms? I'm using virtual box right now, and I installed arch with kde plasma. x11 seems to work fine, but when I use wayland, the mouse is very stuttery and system settings says 60hz is the max even though on x11 it says 180hz is. Should I use vmware instead?
And then iterate on the array with for-loop, and need to unwrap the array inside values and convert them into paths, then display the paths value...
Ok, I understand now.
So you are doing that thing in very weird way, which results in the need to unwrap.
But point is to use the iterator, so you don't need to unwrap.
unwrap is just, give me the value. If something goes wrong. Panic.
The type that fs::read_dir() returns:
https://doc.rust-lang.org/beta/std/fs/struct.DirEntry.html
Entries returned by the ReadDir iterator.
You need it twice
You either get Result<T,E> or Option<T>. unwrap gives me T, if there is no T but and E or None = panic.
io::Result<DirEntry>
There are just cleaner ways of doing it
My flight is taking off and I'm about to loose cell though
it's like a null/error protection if you don't care for errors.
Don't worry about it. I just wanted to get it working so I can focus on my front-end.
Just a bit surprised at first at the syntax of Rust 😄
Why do you need to unwrap it even once?
That just converts it from the return type to more generic one.
When you can do the stuff on the original type too?
seems lower level.
Btw, the "wrong code" I am using is from stackoverflow top voted.
Yeah, which often contains absolute crap?
When that Rust documentation shows directly about same thing?
Without any unwraps.
you do you
If you find that more readable for a beginner. Than stackoverflow example.
It works, but seems to be very unrecommended type of Rust.
Where almost any time you need .unwrap() there is better way without it.
Go a head and do it like that.
But the example on rust give me a headache.
cb: &dyn Fn(&DirEntry)) ... what? not beginner friendly.
That is walking whole directory tree, not just the current directory entries?
You know what a beginner is right?
Someone who does something for the first time.
You seem to be looking at this subject from a totally different viewpoint.
That you should learn how to use the language "correctly" from the start, and now use bad hacks?
As you then get used to that bad form.
correctly is already so opinionated
One just handles errors underneath the hood.
And that second one doesn't call .unwrap() at all?
That is the point, you can do the same without error handling too?
It's even documented on rust to use unwrap() when developer doesn't expect errors.
Seemed to be "only if you cannot do it any other way, AND you don't get errors or have handled it other way already".
anyway, I didn't come in here to discuss how I program.
I wanted to share I am rusting 🤣
and that the syntax is doing my head in.
Also weird, rust doesn't need return keyword.
fn someMethod() -> String {...}
-> String tells that a string is returned. And the latest value in the method will be returned.
fn implicit() -> i32 { 1 }
ok, rust have definitely some cool features built into it. Just some getting used to.
Got an SMS today from a debt collection agency for a non-existing debt only to receive an SMS 8 hours later saying they sent an SMS by mistake 🤣
My guess is they bought some database from a black market and decided to send SMS to everyone even if they have no debt and hope someone stupid enough will pay the non-existing debt
They probably sent SMS to too many people and received a lot of complains (and probably report to the police)
Not to mention debt collection agencies in general got the highest fines for violating GDPR
UBM has been copypasting that exact same text for years now
Yep
Won't be long before UBM will recommend Raid Shadow Legends as a legit benchmark game too 🤣
Someone online mentioned UserBenchmark owner shorted AMD stocks and lost money (if that's true). Guess that explains their bias lol
🤫
Tiktok is tripping
In the coming weeks, we'll also test adding meditation exercises to the wind down reminder, as research shows that mindful meditation can improve sleep quality.
I updated you happy now? it dident fix shit because duh resource usage has nothing to do with drivers
guess il see if it fixed my surround tomfoolery
So what did you do?
And which driver version did you install?
newest one
I hope it bugs out, and freezes on the "hold". People will suffocate.
ddu and then newest one
And what does "stat unit" say?
stat unit?
oh that
its gonna take a while since i dident save
crashed during load into the save
told you the new drivers arent stable
And I didn't tell you to install latest?
I told you to install 566.36.
And if those aren't stable, it isn't the drivers, but something else on your computer.
il try again
oh, well i installed the latest and im not spending another 4 hours trying to get ddu to work again
"trying to get DDU to work"?
Never heard it being anything else than extract and run.
wouldent extract
Another pointer to your OS or computer being fucked.
it would extract running it would ask to extract again and again and again
So you are just idiot.
You don't run the extractor again, it extracted the thing to another place.
Working as intended.
then i downloaded it like 40 times before it eventually actually started up
Unless you got the Guru3D repackage, where they just compressed the original extractor inside another.
Where you need to extract twice.
Once from the Guru3D package, then find the extracted original extractor, run that and extract, and then find the extracted files and run the exe.
it would help if the extractor wasent labeled as an application exe
What the fuck did you download and from where?
the first result
😑
Says "Application" so some directly executable standard one like .exe
And name and size match to the official file.
a 7Z .exe file ... ?
extension? you mean file type?
Self-extractor.
Created with 7zip.
So 7zip compression with integrated extractor.
When run gives this, with the files own folder as default:
Or can be opened with compatible programs like 7zip as archive.
And extracted externally.
Like I said, Guru3D repackaged the original one inside another file.
And added their own marketing crap as extras.
don't know where nvidia hides DDU
Nvidia?
DDU had nothing to do with Nvidia.
Then who is maker?
Two different files.
One actually installs the program "permanently" into Program Files and adds start menu shortcuts etc.
Other is just extractor.
For run and throw away usage (portable, no install).
I do like portable apps.
this is what you wanted right?
finally got it to stop shitting the bed
Ok, that is CPU limitation via some very fucky route.
But last time the GPU time was way up and Frame was way above either.
If you put Task Manager on Details tab, and sort by CPU usage, what are the results when in that state?
That isn't Details.
dident even know that was a tab in task manager
And in that one game is not really running and CPU is almost completely idle.
So bad data.
?????
CPU is 97% idle and Satisfactory is using 1%
i am running out of monitoring tools
can be rounding?
my cpu is at like 90 overall usage bruh
all the 0 could be 0.5 and stuff?
Only about 3% overall CPU usage.
As that System Idle Process shows all the unused CPU time, over all cores.
So the game was actually playing in the save when you took that screenshot?
In same state as the first task manager screenshot?
yes its still running rn
Rounding happens.
But point is that the game was supposed to use 40+% of the CPU, and was marked as using 1%
stupid HW monitor isent reading right because its not updated ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
But seems it is broken currently.
Same with Valheim right now for me.
Details shows minimal usage, everything else shows reality.
btw, isn't it 1% because it got send to background?
No, same when game has focus and when it doesn't.
but OS reporting 1% for satisfactory is weird. Doesn't even have anything to do with updating HWinfo.
And the default view shows correctly in both cases.
best i can do
Like I said, seems MS fucked up that Details page currently in Win11.
occt is the only monitoring tool i have that isent so outdated it cant read
one way to find out
Point was to try to see if something else was using significant amount of CPU.
firefox
And that default Processes hasn't historically shown everything that details did.
No works like intended I think?
when game is idle sit around 1%. But when loading etc it spikes ofc.
Not for me on Win 11 23H2.
The Processes works fine.
Details is stuck showing tiny CPU usage.
Need to restart after todays updates to see if they fixed that in todays monthly update.
But on my february patched Win11 23H2 that Details CPU usage is broken.
Oh, I don't have that patch.
processes works for me but nothing else does
just firefox snorting crack as always so normal
my firefox is no junk.
well mine is and that's fine because whenever it starts acting up i just switch to chrome
to be honest the only reason i still even use it is because i said i would give it a fair shot and timeframe to try and win me over but if anything its done the oposite
only thing i actually like is the customisability is a bit better
Just read government here is planning to introduce fees for solar panel owners which would make the investment return period longer. F**** this country.....
And I was thinking about getting solar panels
The government must be like: "Oh, I see you are producing more energy than than you are consuming and you don't pay a single cent for electricity. We can't let you do that, pay up!"
Similar thing happened here 5 years ago with subsidies.
I bet it's because 90% of population has a contract with electrical company which is owned by the government
More solar panels mean less money for the government and the government, as we know, it doesn't like that....
So much for promoting energy independence lol
For a few years, people got subsidies if they got solar panels. But it was so popular, the goverment lost a shit ton of money. And the years afterwards, we all had to pay it back with extra tax.
Also, they stopped doing it after two years. But we are still paying for it.
You know, at this point, I'm starting to think a "tax on air" is not a joke and someone will try to justify implementing such tax in the near future
Farting tax.
I think, that people who eat a lot of beans, and fart a lot, are contributing to the climate change problem. And therefore, should pay extra taxes
Considering I just recovered from stomach flu and fart more than normal, I am screwed
Btw, government might make some excuse like" Do you know how much we invested in combating air pollution? If you want to breathe clean air, pay the air tax!"
"Thanks to us you have clean air"
Hope nobody who works in the government reads this discord channel 🙏
*at least not in the tax department that is
gaming tax.
Never
say never.
it's just a paradoxical statement
we invested with money you paid us, so now you have to pay us for use your money for what you wanted us to use it for
History is dam importnat, becusse when the same stuff happens with just a ciuple of generations gap...
I sure as fuck hope this is actual informed "history repeats itself" talk
Which in any case would absolutely be outside the scope of this channel
it was over as soon as they confirmed no new cpu's until 2026
are they not even doing anything under the 265K?
arrow lake refresh got canceled too so probably not
-# jesus christ they're not even skylaking us anymore
Selling the same product or idea over and over again is one of the oldest tricks in the book.
How many emergences of vr was there? I can count at least 3.
Foldable phones? "This years brand new iPhone".
And, ofcourse, ai.
But ofcourse I got the thought from political events... Which isn't topic of the server, just a thought to think baout.
So when other people touch not the topics of channel it's ok, yet when I reply to them - it suddenly isn't?
If my main gpu is an amd 7900xtx, can i use a 2080 ti in tandem purely for physx acceleration?
you could use the weakest nvidia gpu for it, you wouldn't need a 2080 ti
but yes people did / do run a setup like that
I already have a 2080 ti is the thing. My parents just need to ship it to me. What about drivers tho? How well would it work having amd and nvidia drivers running in the same system?
Good bye Intel?

might test the waters by selling off a part of it first
Intel has already been selling off or closing parts for last 5+ years.
I only lost $8 on Intel last year
Picking up M920Q today.
Then nuke the OS and throw linux on it.
Opensense is made on OpenBSD. So I wonder if I need that Linux distro.
OpnSense is OS in itself.
That solves it.
So you either install that, or some Linux variant.
opnsense, not opensense.
But think OPNSense like Linux distro, meant for firewall/router etc. use as primary focus, just with OpenBSD as the kernel and not Linux.
So AMD does sell these
Just not to us peasants
https://videocardz.com/newz/amds-unreleased-radeon-rx-9070-xt-reference-design-shows-up-in-china
Radeon RX 9070 XT in reference design spotted Remember the low-resolution renders that someone found on Reddit a few weeks ago? We were quick to confirm that those were official renders of soon-to-be-announced Radeon RX 9070 XT cards, despite many claiming they were fake. But to our surprise, AMD never launched this design to the […]
i always wonder about stuff that we never get to know about, kinda like those dating apps for 1%ers that cost like $10k/yr sub to keep the poors away
i bet there's the "fully unlocked" versions of RTX server GPUs that are gaming/desktop compatible & that kind of thing
It's a bit confusing
OPNsense is an open source, FreeBSD-based firewall and routing **software **developed by Deciso, a company in the Netherlands that makes hardware and sells support packages for OPNsense. Launched in 2015, it is a fork of pfSense, which in turn was forked from m0n0wall built on FreeBSD.
So it doesn't state it's an OS system.
In what way?
OPNSense is full OS, but the included by default things and the development focus is on being used as web-configurable firewall system.
"Appliance" OS, but can do anything any other FreeBSD based distro can do if wanted.
This. I got confused because when I googled, it states it's software.
Software runs within on OS. So I wasn't sure if I needed a linux distro or not.
The Wiki page can be misleading in that.
But when you check the install documentation it will be clear.
Just explaining where my confusion stems from.
I have to wait 5 more minutes for post office to open 😄
Yeah, lot of those "turn-key" solutions are full-on OSes but never really mention it.
🤞 It's a good unit with no hardware damage.
