great for cable management etc though lol
You have essentially the hight of a PSU (since it goes in "sideways") then some...
But doesn't help when point is to get as narrow case as possible, that can still take current MB and stock cooler.
just pointing out how much wider that kinda case is,, i was surprised when i went to get it
at how big the box was lol
wasn't quite as heavy as i imagined though given all the glass involved
uhk60 v2 join the cult
You can even set individual button color
only use it during the day when you have natural light
IBM Model M ๐
You can still get those keyboards brand new. Same design, tooling etc.
Same buckling spring switches...
IMO best keyboard for typing. Probably worst for gaming lol
Well the old 80's Model M's are still alive and kicking.
Ones with a detachable cord are basically forever keyboards
if not and you can solder it's still a forever keyboard
I use a mixture of compact styles and normal. Depends
And usually blues for typing and reds for basically anything else
I want to try some of the hall effect stuff though
#FakeMSRP
I dunno I became an iHead
The M2 in my iPad lasts ages
can't remember what size cell it has in it though
7606
The M series chips are great for... unless you are a gamer.
I just need a macbook now ๐
I already have the buds, phone and tablet
i like it
i used to care about side loading and tweaking the interface and such, i just don't care about that now
I mean I prefer iPads and iPhones but I refuse to buy a MacBook because theyโre way overpriced
I looked at some that weren't too bad
the higher end ones are def too much
one of the things that pulled me to get a apple tablet is software
Yeah the Mac mini base model is the best deal
But if you add anything the price skyrockets
amplitube, tonex... also garage band comes baked in and it's actually a decent usable DAW
Can also control my amp through it if i need to...
just make it disregard what the physical controls are set to...
well if you asked me even a few years ago i'd say you were crazy... if you told me i'd be saying this but...
i like the garden ๐ it's nice in here...
Us old people have been doing this forever
it just gets fancier...
That's kinda why I don't care about the tinkering anymore, been there done that
My last android was a Galaxy Note, it was a nice device
see that's the thing the apple interface is straightfoorward and simple
that's one of the things i like
I like iOS but donโt really like macOS
the most i ever do is the ordering of icons
and i create folders that group various types of apps
so it's all just on one screen really
My phone is basically just used as a phone and sms device... and very expensive meme viewer
I don't do much with it outside of phone stuff
but like... i can change my wallpaper and shit
๐
man i wanna work in the shop but that's int he garage and it's 22F outside
Why cannot I go to bed and just sleep already at 17:30?
multi Flame Generation
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nfEkuqNX4k
Sponsor: Thermal Grizzly Duronaut on Amazon - https://geni.us/tpgcPMw
NVIDIA's DLSS 4 and MFG (Multi-Frame Generation) are a big part of the company's marketing as it tries to make its RTX 50 series, especially the inbound RTX 5070, look better. Multi-Frame Generation now comes in a "4X" variant, which we'll look at today. This image quality com...
I mean frame gen is kinda a new thing
Give it about 3 years and itโll be good as Raytracing is to pathtracing
Frame Interpolation with classical means has been in TVs for tens of years at this point.
All those "100, 200" etc. Hz TVs in 50Hz countries, "120, 240" etc. in 60Hz countries use that by default.
One of the first things anyone should turn off when they get new TV.
And it is easier to do on TV or like, as latency isn't really important as long as sound is kept in sync.
it's two years old already and hasn't meaningfully improved
nvidia say you should only use it with a high input frame rate. okay but then I don't need frame gen as much
in practice, poor bastards with 4060s use it thinking it'll let them play cyberpunk path tracing, it doubles 20fps to 40fps, and they wonder why it looks shit
fsr3 is exactly the same though at least that doesn't process the UI
Almost certainly marketing or exec level started thing to just get Bigger Number Better.
And then when technical people started talking about frame interpolation, and decision was to implement that, it was just renamed by marketing.
100Hz TVs with frame interpolation were a thing during CRT times already IIRC.
Yes, the algorithms and results have slowly gotten better with increased processing power.
But today those things often use 4+ frames instead of just two, and the results still are bad.
So computer game side is easier because you have motion vectors.
But harder because you only can use 2 frames to interpolate between, and you have very limited time to do it.
they get to say the 5070 is faster than a 4090 thanks to multi frame generation and people will buy it
they get to say path tracing is actually something people can use
even though you need dlss performance and multi frame gen, which looks ghastly
all the while, improvements to actual performance or performance per dollar have ceased
What's the point of PT then?
to sell graphics cards
get a 5090 and you'll just about get something playable
better save up!
a year from now we will have a new kind of path tracing that brings the 5090 to its knees and is unplayable on a 4090
and still doesn't look right
this is by far from the first time nvidia has launched a new, impressive looking, highly demanding and impractical technology only to move on when the competition catches up
in this case the competition includes themselves
Or intentionally make game devs use new feature wrong, so there is way too high performance cost.
So that even their own older gen cards cannot run it properly.
like how crysis 2 used tesselation on absolutely everything, even things you couldn't see
At insane tesselation factor.
Which was the point, as Nvidias new gen didn't suffer as much from that as AMDs.
Even when Nvidias own older cards were no better or worse off than AMDs new ones.
look at those polygons
Or the tesselated water under at least any level with any sea.
same goes for hairworks
and now, years after RTX, we're beginning to see games that mandate ray tracing but implement it really well (Indiana Jones)
But has to do it at very low resolution for that.
well enough that even my radeon gets 120FPS without any upscaling or frame gen
so what do nvidia do?
they concoct up path tracing that absolutely murders performance
there will always be a new thing that you can't run properly right now but nvidia will push hard as a way to sell graphics cards
as much as radeon has failed to penetrate the market, amd spends more energy working on new consoles with microsoft and sony, where the incentive is to get the most performance for the cost, not sell overpriced geforces
i am praying to all the gods for amd's strix halo to get put in an affordable all in one gaming PC, like a PS5 that runs windows or linux
because pc hardware is getting so obscenely expensive i can't recommend anyone buy anything
turns out pcywt has AMAZING tutorial with plots
pycwt.readthedocs.io/en/latest/tutorial/cwt/
can we get readthedocs.io whitelisted? i mean, it's not like they could harm
Can be used by anyone without checking to put something up?
So can contain absolutely anything for time at least.
what the fuck is this shit
past month i've only heard the dlss transformer model is better
this, this shit is why i am so cynical
it appears the increase to clarity is just cause it's relying more on temporal data, but that causes more ghosting
no such thing as a free lunch, all tradeoffs
absolutely fucking not
the FG model just got worse
i bet it now looks worse than FSR FG
it doesn't use optical flow hardware and is instead all tensor cores
yeah, i know
why? iunno
i dont think FSR FG leaves artifacts like that
i do know it doesn't process the UI, that's left out of frame gen
meanwhile nvidia
most people do
wish i had better news for you
get a ps5 i guess
i don't mean that as an insult
that second one is trippy
sToP tHe RiTuAl
it's even warping the text
a bolt of lightning happened, instant transition from dark to bright white, and frame gen decided to smooth out that transition so the lightning flash looked softer
Reminds me of word feature ๐คฃ
Today weโre introducing Verified Priority Access for the GeForce RTX 50 Series. It will give a limited number of verified GeForce gamers & creators in the United States the opportunity to purchase one GeForce RTX 5090 or RTX 5080 Founders Edition graphics card from the NVIDIA Marketplace.
If selected, users will be notified at the email address of the NVIDIA account they enrolled with. Invites will begin rolling out next week.
Nividia decides who can buy the cards huh ...
verified GeForce gamers & creators
shills
That's how I read it too.
US only ๐คฃ
nice tool to control the narrative. Send it to pro NVIDIA users. Don't give critics any access
This is what I would call enshitification.
No, it just looks shit.
ayyyy lmao
Wtf did they do to fuck up so bad ๐คฃ
Icarus.
Fair point, but I'm not one of those people.
How about off
๐ฉ
Because that optical flow hardware wasn't powerful enough to work for the higher fake frame rates.
Suggesting the MFG was knee-jerk requirement from marketing once they found out how little uplift there was between generations.
That first was IIRC direct from Nvidia when asked why it wasn't used.
At some point I'll want to upgrade my vidya hardware
Although for now what I have hits my goals
For me video card shopping just gets tedius looking over various benchmarks from synthetic to real world
I got a RX 6750 XT awhile back
How would you decide when AMDs new ones aren't out yet?
And Nvidias prices are nowhere near stabilized and are at scalping levels?
Yeah apparently the 70Ti wouldn't be a bad value... at MSRP
and that aint happening right now
Against the older gen, with current US prices.
And that comparison is only valid in US, rest of the world doesn't get the same price cuts and long tail on the older product.
Well I guess it's fitting it was a paper launch
considering connector starts fires....
At any rate yeah you gotta see what the new cards do. If I were shopping right now I'd wait and see
(even if the nvidia prices were stable))
But in Finland, 4070 and 4070 Super are almost completely out of stock, and there will not be restock happening anymore.
And same is almost certainly true of rest of EU too, outside of some specific stores that have local stock left.
Checking another store, as the first didn't even list 4070 TI and TI Super anymore.
wow i'll probably be able to get those 2 years from now heh
Same with the TI and TI Super, almost out.
Which is US specialty, which GN etc. US based reviewers don't acknowledge.
It is their reality, but not reality for most of the world.
In EU, old gen doesn't get price drops and be sold concurrently with new gen.
Old gen just goes out of stock at last MSRP or higher.
grapheneOS' word on this
Any long tail cards will usually be jacked up in price.
To be sold to the people who must for some reason get exact model, even if it is older and overpriced.
I don't want random bloat installed.
Man, I hate when our company vendors have aggressive email filters that block our emails....
Only way to fix this in the past was to change their email to something like gmail and they would receive an email normally
They use company email and already checked their SPAM folder or other mail folders
Either the message was completely blocked by email server or something else is going on in here
Worst thing is when you tell a vendor it's a technical problem on their side and you have no responsibility to fix it. They immediately start attacking you and blame they didn't receive an email because there is something wrong on your side
Great, other employees keep getting spam from some "Kornelija" Microsoft AI chatbot... (I have not received it yet)
Either a malicious spam or someone in IT made some mistake and added more than 1000 employees on the recipient list
100% scam/spam
Probably. I wonder how it got a list of 1000 employees at the moment
Either a mail crawler or some other method
My colleague received like 30 mails from the AI chatbot today and he is going insane atm
I hope nobody accidentally adds the chatbot to mail cc when sending me an email because I will be screwed too lol
Nope, I avoid crypto like plague
Since I work for an ISP, if anyone needs a code for Perplexity Pro, feel free to send me a DM
You get 12 months for free
Got a spare code
I get voice assistants as an accessibility feature - being able to do stuff without relying on your hands
It's just the data protection aspect of it that I dislike.
And there's no need to introduce AI
The scalpside is a pathway to many abilities some deem to be douchebaggy
Darth Wallet
i see your shwartz is as big as mine
what a great movie, i should watch it since i've been on classics binge lately
Watched The Jerk the other night
I came across a movie with an interesting title a couple of days ago... can't believe I'd never heard of it
A western from the 70's but not your typical western
With t he Jerk what was great watching it was the jokes aren't dated... and Steve was on top of his game during that period.
Well some of the jokes would butthurt somebody now probably
Some TV shows from back in the day that would never fly these days.
All in the Family, yeah you'd never get that on air now.
Younger people not around back then don't really get it though we weren't laughing with Archie, we were laughing at how corny he was lol
well technology is... well my first home game was playing my brothers pong. And you see where we are now.
I was the coolest kid on the street when I got an Atari 2600
I never relized how big conterfiet arcade machines were until we movied to Panama City Panama when I was a kid.
There were arcades there with legit machines, normal price. Then there were the counterfiet arcades, 2 credits per quarter instead of 1
That was like... early to mid 80's
I always went to the pirate places, 2x the value. The games were the same.
I still have some Balboa's (what many called the panamanian coinage)
Not sure abou tnow but at the time they used US currency but did mint some of their own quarters and dimes that had Balboa on the front
The thing I don't like with Nintendo is they are killing preservation
At some point we will lose games... forever
I've legitimately tried a game via piracy before
Sorry not sorry but before I plop out a bunch of money I wanna see that it doesn't suck, specially these days.
But I also buy games I play. I don't mind spending the money but I do mind ending up with a shit game to show for it.
Most stuff you can tell from reviews and videos anyhow though
I don't even play nor buy many games.
I'd been hoping for a new even better Elder Scrolls game but... meh
Skyrim was such an epic game
yeah refund mechanisms need to be standard
i t hink 2 hours is fair
I never played 4, least not past the start
I wanna play it but I don't play a ton of games and I never seem to find the time.
And now with warm wether coming I'll spend less time gaming sinc eI'll be gardening outdoors again
I need some new keys
this board is old and one switch is wonky which i could replace but this thing has been problems from day 1 with the connection
Nah
I have a keychron in the garage and in here I have a 10-keyless HyperX
this one has cherry reds, the keychron is a nicer keyboard it has blues but the blues are so old they're more like soft reds lol
half of them have no tactile left
that one i'll just replace the switches... this one is just garbo
Browns are an OK in between
My next keyboard I want to try hall effect though
I have m y GOOD keyboard in the workshop because I do microcontroller code on a laptop there lol
I've become a fan of Keychron
And for the workshop I'm VERY tempted to get a Model M heh
Unicomp has them, brand new
A brand new Model M... 150 bucks
In your choice of PS2 or USB ๐
Believe or not I might just go PS2
Sexy...
And no software to worry about ๐
But I do want one of those in the shop, becuase I will be typing a lot on that keyboard
They have some other models, it always changes though
Mini M
They had one with a trackball off on the side
that would actually be super handy for me... they don't make those any more though
A Sun Unix Spacesaver... yes that was saving space lol
also those aren't macro keys they're just F keys
You'd have to be pretty specialty to get macro keys in that area
those boards were usually built for some specific task back then lol
*era
Yeah
Now it's basically standard, back then it was def specialty
kinda like power windows in cars lol
Go find me a new car without them now...
But no for typing... those keys are the magic
buckling spring is... chefs kiss for typing
And I mean they are "ok" for gaming just not great, basically most other things are bnetter except maybe rubber dome keys
Here's why I wouldn't use one in here aside from also not greatest for gaming.. I have my keys in my lap a lot. "Weight : 3 lb 11 oz"
Oh I forgot to mention the Model M's also doubled as a blunt weapon ๐
Anything is a weapon if you hit someone hard enough:)
Getting smacked with one hurts... and I'd know!
Apparently I had angered the woman...
Don't smack me
heh
really thing about keyboards is thy're so subjective
both layout and key feel
I can't believe I'm thinking about dropping 150 on a keyboard design from the 80's

At this point Im not surprised...
no way... cmon
Well that takes is from silly with the plug to just insanity
I can't handle rubber dome keys now... mechanical switches have spoiled me forever
I got a razer mouse because it was on sale
it lasted like... a year... pos
I started getting the double left click on a single click... ever tried googling answers
bunch of dipshits telling you to change the repeat delay
like yeah didn't think of that pal... not to mention it doesn't help
because that isn't the problem
I've had some Reddragon stuff and last I looked it seemd their prices had gone up
they were good at the lower price, if they raise prices not so much... I've used them for mice for awhile
can you imagine spending that kinda money on a 5090 then finding out your GPU is literally missing shit it's supposed to have
I have freakishly... average sized hands
people are like man put those away they are freakishly average
"but i need muh hands"
Logitech used to just be the go-to
But that was a long looong time ago
well mice are even more subjective than keys
im super picky with my mice
One reason
I keepo going back to the Reddragon is the system is already sett up with the settings I like how I like them
I can just swap it out and have to tweak nothing
I'd buy a razer if I liked it... and I trusted the quality
My mouse is like that, side full of buttons for macros
They can be used for so much stuff... I've used them as OBS macros, macros in audio tools and apps... games
Similar
Mine is old, they might not sell the exact model I have now
Wonder how hard it is to source the switches they have in some of these mice
i'll just start replacing switches if they go wonky. That's how every mouse I've had die in the last I dunno how long has gone. The dreaded double click
literally the only thing wrong is that one switch
Exactly
With Reddragon I probably can
They probably use an off the shelf part
They don't make em like they used to
lol
Never killed a mouse with a MMO then again the last time I played an MMO it was text ๐
heh my dedi is putting in work on the outbound traffic
started a 1TB transfer earlier
I've been happy with AMD CPU's for awhile
I switched to a 3700x then now to a 9700x
But I think you ar ethinking of somebody else.
Yeah but like... it's going to get dated
it's already how old now?
I just think right now AMD has better chips.
Really for computing in general I think Apple does... actually
Those M4's really are something else....
500 isn't terrible for a basic computer though heh
and is on intels best ARCH
If Apple started doing gaming and did it well they could be dangerous
You mean the shitty armory crate?
Intel seems to be cooking for awhile there.
Now Nvidia is... cooking
Always on LED's can be come always off LED's you know...
Just sayin...
This heater had a LED on the front when on... it annoyed me
It's as dark as a black hole now....
I will say this... regarding drivers. I had better luck with Nvidia drivers.
Not had any major problems with AMD. But less issues on the other side.
That being said being a nerd I am sometimes in Linux and AMD has always supported that better
looooool
I don't hate them because of it, I understand exactly WHY they are like that with the drivers.
"the secret is in the sauce".... in this scenario the sauce is the driver
Plus you could get 3d working with nvidia, at least back at the point I was trying to do so. But that was quite awhile back now
One difference then was AMD would be accelerated out of the box, Nvidia wouldn't.
And honestly outside of the fancy desktop stuff you didn't need it because gaming was really barely a thing on linux then
People did it, and would sometimes get some stuff to run via compatibility layers
don't they do optics
well... their lens wipes are decent ๐
wonder how long before we just have a implants in our ears
I'm getting old, I'll just cyborg up.
That's what neuralink is about
giving somebody a way to control limbs
at some point they'll be able to give them artificial ones, that gives a control interface
So from not being able to walk to functional... at some point anyhow. It's not even new tech.
It's just evolved and had somebody pour money into the research
One thing that's changed is the interface itself is mor estreamlined
But it can still only see so much of what you're "thinking"
it's almost like teaching your brain to activate a new type of muscle really
It will eventually
And I mean the interface between the computer and the brain will get better too, more control...finer control
Sending feedback to the brain like it would be naturally tho... we can't do that much with the nerves
yet... heh. they have stuff that simulated that now with some prosthetics, it'll send some snesation to the nub to let you know how hard you are gripping for example
Plus to some degree your brain itself starts to rewire to work around stuff as well
like how blind people tend to pick up increased hearing
And in comments for that 5090 ROP thing someone has 5080 with 112 ROPs instead of 128.
Ah, that might be the right amount, and some spec database website just had wrong number
Yeah, TechPowerUp entry for 5080 has/had wrong number of ROPs in it.
If HMD doesn't want to sell, then that is on them and their distribution partners.
My iPhone kinda has a jack
When I plug that in....
No I'm a willing participant heh
That's not an Apple product though. IK Multimedia makes that
Well ummm like I said if you don't really care about tweaking/hacking a phone, they're very nice
ditto for the tablet
Oh that's another thing I want... an apple watch lol
I'll get the watch before I get a laptop though
I have tons of reasons lol
I'd have a harder time to come up with reasons to stay on android for sure
I highly doubt it heh
But see you're hung up on the interface
the interface is fine, it's just not fancy and you can't just throw on a new complete skin or a new UI. Again though don't care one bit about that personally.
It's good for light metering, it's good for my audio needs... it does everything else just as well at least
Some things better like a baked in DAW that is pretty good
That's one thing I don't upgrade super often but when I do I get something high end
But I upgrade about every 5 years personally
I'm still on a 13 Pro Max
I'll probably be on it for a few more years
I dunno software is just different on mac in general. Like my neighbor is a musician and he has some older macs and they still run shockingly well
to be like 8ish years old in some cases
I'll go low end because I don't need more. They have some pretty powerful laptops out now. I just mostly need it for basic things, the heaviest weight it will have is some real time audio stuff
wonder what the min for amplitube is lets have a look
yeah just says i5... so it'll basically run on a potato
I have nothing against windows 11 UI
But I also have nothing against Mac OS's either...
This machine will remain windows 11/linux since it's my main system
came across some old screenshots i didn't even know i still had... this one makes me kinda sad
Back when I had an active MC server
I have some crazy videos of fireworks machines i built
i never ever built normal sized things... ever
Just a tiny little fireworks thing I made at one point.
Vicious Circle (Minecraft 1.14.4)
Server Info
Vicious Circle (Minecraft 1.14.4)
Server IP: play.viciouscirclemc....
because it's a sequential database and that's how it's pronounced?
SHRUG!
i've heard people use both
I use both...
well... he's technically correct ๐
Also pretty sure the S is silent in Postgres
oh mn there isn't one, it's been awhile since i've used that flavor
no idea other than C S S
Everything uses them
Neat
There are giant skeletons on the moon...
lol it's a Galacticraft reference
to get the plans for the next rocket part you needed you had to find and kill a giant skeleton on the moon
Minecraft is a game I always end up going back to. But only modded
My squeal

EEEEEEEEE!
Require warmer weather... had a couple of fox around here that I think were taking a liking to me.
Might have something to do with feeding them...
Hmm
Windowsโข๏ธ
imagine optimising for an architecture where the CPU cache must be managed manually, with you loading and unloading stuff into it
that is the cell as seen in the PS3
Lucky me I havent had to do that yet ๐
I don't do goat.
Sorry no. I'm not that stupid.
Never?
I see.
Doubt
But you never know...
it's a lot of work
No. I just want an actual decent ARPG.
you played poe2?
Don't.
No never will. Too many things.
Repeat the same content for every season etc. I can't... I would finish the game once and then be "done" with it.
I have this problem with other games too. I can't stand doing the same thing twice.
i want whatever crack, meth or cocaine this guy is on
13600k is better than the 9800x3d?
im sure that guy must feel so good on it
I would assume that depends on the application.
But applications today are so poorly written...
the PS3 had one regular CPU core and eight little shitlings you needed to manage the cache of manually
most games did not use them
Sounds fun
... I mean, like a nightmare...
it was real bad
the userbenchmarks guy is some real intel nvidia shill
idk why he got all pressed at amd being better at intel all the sudden for no reason
Not surprised.
userbenchmark are so cringe even intel wish they'd shut up
do not let this guy access photoshop ever again (or mspaint)
Idk how good the benchmarking tools work with multicore and caching.
i dont even like them ๐ญ
i just saw the trust pilot reviews for ub
its insane
bro got smacked by ever angle
Because my message bus implementation I work on as hobby thing.
I have 5M objects listening (have fake domain data to occupy more ram than just the benchmark data) (the counter)
with 88 bytes (4 byte alignment)
My implementation is bottlenecked not by core count, but rather the CPU cache.
I get the same performance on 2 cores as I get on 8.
all the 5 star reviews were all jokes
"can you run it?"
whoever owns this website choose a 3600 over a 7800x3d

Anyone else started getting yt ads as couple seconds clips?
Don't know if it's a bug or intended
all intel+nvidia build vs all amd build
yea this guy is drugs or has half a deflated brain
Or half inflated drugs...
I'm gonna be...
How the fuck do I read that chart?
YT started trolling adblock people with hour long unskippable ads and shit
Also, it mentions no user benchmark match this result...
this is their site
nothing like those one hour unskippable ads
I would just consider it invalidated ๐คฃ
for the "build a pc" thing
I haven't bought a seagate since... maybe early early 2000's
After the debacle they had with a coating they were putting on platters was flaking off and killing drives. Including 3 that I owned.
i thought seagate was reliable for hdds?
Well typically I'd say yes
But after that experience it soured my taste for them personally
i expected wd being better and i was fucken up by them
I spent many years using almost nothing but WD
This one almost got one except they had a 4TB Samsung on sale for the same price
There is a WD nvme still in here as a secondary drive
The Samsung is faster but that's to be expected given the WD's age, it was fast for it's time
I have an external M2 SSD, B+M keyed, probably not many boards that take those now
Mine def does not
Makes a nice fast external though
I remember when my home LAN broke 1TB total... that was a big day!
If I had one I'd use it but I'm waiting until I set my rack up
Just knock it all out at once
I use my remote server for streaming media
Good ole Jellyfin
It has a ummm interesting movie on there now lol
Which reminds me I gotta call my friend and ask him if he's heard of this one...
didn't have "nvidia literally forgot to put all the parts on the die" on my bingo card
what is this undiscovered lore im just finding out about
i thought seagates and wds were reliable
should have put the thing in isorpogalyiacol alcholaiaqgk
then lit it on fire outside
then put some water over it
hit it with a hammer and run it over
hey, finally broke 400W on my 4090
I'm going to have one or two 240's run to this room at some point
Technically at the box we have 240, they just run single phase to most circuits in the house
some exceptions being in the kitchen for the stove, laundry room etc
for big appliances
I run way higher wattage devices than CPU's heh
into the thousands of watts
nah I'm US, they run dual phase to the homes, voltage is handle with transformers
I think in EU they do it a little differently
wow. so for the moment maxxed out satisfactory, 1440 ultrawide at 144hz, doesn't max out my pc. not many other games i have will actually stress my system like SF does, so i think that's a good thing
there are reasons.... which i cannot remember
Either way without some major work I can't do past 240
whats a cheap 18tb harddrive i can get
And they'd wanna know why the hell I need more at a house lol
for storing camera videos
120v in the US feels like an anachronism back to the gas lamps/light bulb conversion
aren't they all high?
well yea but something thats pretty cheap and reliable for that much storage
I dunno im looking on microcenter just out of curiosity, here's a 16 for 299.99
i live near one so you can use instore as well
well check there if it's convenient, honestly their prices are about as good as anywhere else from what i've seen
near as in a 20-40 minute drive
rip.
Toshiba N300 18TB 7200 RPM SATA III 6Gb/s 3.5" Internal NAS CMR Hard Drive
327.99
Safe to say that's about the low end unless you catch a special/sale
im in california
that's the cheapest 18 i see
probably 480
That's not a bad price really considering how much storage that is
480v in the US is 3 phase, used mainly for stuff like lathes & mills
Yeah you normally don't see those outside industrial
occasionally metric & base 12/imperial do kinda line up with their uses
which is why if I had one installed here the power company would be involved and they'd have questions I don't wanna answer
public transport here is the worst thing ever
installing 480v in the US is fairly uncommon, but it is a thing where people are using or maintaining farm equipment
Yeah it's ummm it is wha tit is i guess
I get 120, or if i need 240... and that's life
and back in MY dad that's how it was AND THATS HOW WE LIKED IT!
-shakes his cane-
technically
cant wait for 2080
gotta do it on the panel
for the rtx 105090 takes 480v
and you have to buy transformers for them
dw, nvidia has innovated and they added 64vhpwr
RTX 201090 will require a pellet of uranium to power it's reactor core
then you have GN covering peoples video cards literally melting down
i'm expecting a full recall and they scrap them & finally do a sane plug
ya know the plug thing... brain dead move
but those missing ROPs is like wha in the actual...
missing literal hardware should trigger a recall
Im not even sure how that can even happen and produce functional silicon
losing 10% power is like selling a car with a V8 with one piston not fucking installed
as if his birth wasnt one
yeah and plus even if it was just ONE that's too many
something went horribly wrong, clearly
And I hate this because I want competition, it keeps everyone in check :/
i'm not a fan of any of them, i watch all of them and make my own decisions
when they put out garbage, i have no problem saying so
They're all fine, although for awhile linus was annopying me with the shoddy effort
biases are fine so long as you are aware of them & prevent them from interfering with decision making
like that one video doing that long distance wifi rig and like literally nobody did any homework at all on setting it up it seemed
Like cmon you have a whole staff and nobody knows how to do line of sight if you don't have actual sight
for a lline of sight s ystem you are showing off... really?
THAT is the problem, he has a STAFF to do the homework
and it still wasn't done heh
LTT does a combo of detailed analysis and just fucking around, so it can be hard to tell what's a bad product and what's them using a product outside of spec/intention
if it was just a feww guys then ok i get it but cmon you are a huge operation
I dunno what ever happend with that other drama, didn't care enough. I watch LTT, I watch GN... I think they're both fine.
Oh and I watch a lot of UFD Tech too, he does good at going over the headlines.
Well when your CPU runs at like 4MHz lol
I was thinking earlier about how my first pentium had 8MB of memory, not GB... MB
And that was basically what was considered the "average" or "standard"
That chip was amazing though... P75. I was the only person I knew that had one at the time. Everyone else was strill stretching out their 486's, which made sense since they'd go spend 1200+ on a new one.
adjusted for inflation that's 260 bucks
*2600, my 0 keyswitch is... well i need to swap it with a less used key lol
My first "real" PC was one of these. By real I mean IBM (or compatible).
That one panel on top slid off... parents had NO idea... winkwink
We be in there playing dungeons and dragons... and peace pipe lol
Hey that was light years ahead of my Atari 800XL I was upgrading from!
The nerd scene was weird back then... maybe it still is I dunno
Like I was really a metalhead, the typical long hair 80's jean jacket wearing heavy metal dude. But most of those guys were also nerds. So we hung out with nerds and geeks too, which always looked odd but we all had common interestes lol
Into computers, D&D, science shit
biggest thing i miss in laptops is swappable batteries
Well maintained records are nice though
better sound quality than CD's
I have a few records left... ZZ Top, Motley Crue
I have the old Shout at the Devil record with the big pentagram on it... my mom took that one surprisingly well
Then again she was smart and realized it was all just show
oh i've got stairway to heaven & thriller
Oh I have Michael Jackson's Off the Wall
And thriller!
But the real gem is an 8-track... Ted Nugent Double Live Gonzo
I got that one from my older brother, his car had an 8 track in it hahhaa
It was also a Pinto...
I have a handful of records, nothing to play them on
I know one person that has a record player, my neice and her wife just bought one recently
but only because it's apparently trendy right now heh
the little portable ones in cases are getting popular
Have it set up with candles and shit around it... it's like a shrine... kinda creepy really lol
I seem to remember hearing those were basically all not very great as players
I doubt I'll ever buy one... but who knows if I see a good one cheap enough
not great but also a lot of people never got to experience the good ones
At one time most households had one
We had a stereo setup with a record player and 8 track
ones with a non-shit needle
I'd have to research more but there are differences in drive systems, weighting, and def in the stylus itself
I'd think these days direct drive would be the most reliable but I have no idea
Do they still need calibration?
I remember having to calibrate using the marks on the edge back in the day
That can work depending on taste... I guess
Yep they've gotten high
I have no reason to get one personally, there is one game I care about I can only play on console
And next year it'll probably be on PC or XBL PC
I pay ummm 0 ๐
I sub to one game service, and that's it. Select other titles I buy... like this one.
Even with the last price increase awhile back Live for PC is a great value for me. There are a lot of games on there I like
I look at some peoples Steam library and I'm like wtf mine is so smol
Well here is the thing
at 100 bucks... that's the same price as it's basically been since forever
well not basically... has been. adjusted for inflation our 2600 games were 90-100 bucks lol
That's why every time there is price ourtage I'm like yeah ok...
relax over there guys
70 is... well games havn't gone up in awhile either, lets not forget that
games had been 60 bucks for ages, it was bound to happen
I don't like seeing price increases, but at the same time I can't rage over paying tyhe same fuckin price I've always payed
for 4 decades....
And I can at least say big games are a big production now with bigger costs... a 2600 game was some guy hacking away and i doubt it took lonmg
I'd pay double that for a GOOD elder scrolls... :/
like skyrim or better game wise with modern graphics on that
Yep
If I were like... Gates or Musk or Oprah I could afford to just have it made ๐ฎ
"stop complaining about 70 bucks for a game this one cost me 48 million "
these days i think in.. well maybe most cases now, the smaller studios do better
they produce just... fun games
like this one, it's ot expensive and it's just a fun game
Stardew is another great inexpensive game
And despite messing up pretty bad at the start... No Mans Sky turned out OK
IMO those guys redeemed themselves.. .they've continued to work on it for a long time nmow and released tons of DLC all for free
Can't really be mad at them ya know, they could have jujst walked away which is what I expecteda t the time
I am off and on with it, like most games
I was gone so much for ahwile every time I'd go back it was amost a different game
when they were doing a lot of work
I kinda want to just start fresh on there if i play it again
i also finally tried ark and like... die die die die die die
They should have just called it die
"oh I think i almost hav ea shelter and i can almost get this sleeping baaaand im dead
I guess I should go get that Amazon order that came yesterday off the porch...
Wasn't too concerned... it's 30 dollars worth of a combination of solid and stranded core 22 AWG wire
if ya take it have fun... not sure what you'll do with it lol
Yeah... in an area of town that isn't BAD but it also isn't great.
It's a really stupid spot for drop off lockers...
Well th is location it's not if somebody gets robbed it's when... can about guarantee that
It'll probably just be a snatch and run but still...
Well in this case it'd almost be worth thte 30 knowing just how disappointed those slugs will be
when the little roaches open it up and find wire
Well it's not bad here... neighbors keep a good eye out
We all look out for each other around here
And it's def FAFO Lane because almost everyone is armed and 3 of my neighbors are veterans, 2 with combat experience
lol
And that, we all have camera
I got some super cool neighbors
lol
I specifically avoided buying where there was a HOA
those things end up so toxic
There are regulations, covenenants. But it's all basic stuff that makes sense
some of it to ensure any new houses built match to some degree, a certain percentage of the front has to be brick etc
But it's all rules you know going in, and they're all reasonable
The street light at the entrance was out, we didn't need a HOA for that
we handled it...
They aren't always bad... when they can go so bad I just avoid them
In fact more times than not they aren't, but it's a situation where if it goes bad it can be really REALLY bad
The busy bodies tend to be attracted to those jobs
so you end up with a bunch of people who have nothing better to do than be in somebody elses business
And of course the power trips...
nothing like being fined becuase of an irrational Karen
But why?
I'd die without AC... me spoiled
If my AC dies in the summer I will have somebody out that day
(I know a guy)
I keep saying it... it's not where you go it's who you know lol
At one time his dad owned the largest HVAC company in the southeasern US. But he leaned hard on new housing and when the bubble popped so did his business heh
He was also reluctant to start letting people who which he needed to do much sooner, but I get it it....
*letting people go
Need for AC was very seldom in Europe.
That's where my dual PIII PowerEdge server came from... it was one of thir systems. Actually I know one thing it was used for was the VPN bridge to the florida office
Until the climate change started to destabilize stuff properly.
I think they had a website on it too
Well there is something out there in space right now reminding us that the universe isn't done fucking with us yet heh
I wouldn't worry too much about being hit though, as always it'll get blown way out of proportion for headlines
kinda like how the LHD was going to create a black hole that consumes the earth
Which technically it could create a micro black hole... that would insttantly evaporate via hawking radiation
There is limited area where it might hit, and it would only be equal to small nuke.
No western world is affected even theoretically.
And would be so small it could pass through a sheet of steel as thick as here to the moon without coming close enough to anything to consume it
so... yeah real dangerous stuff
Line starting from central africa to after asia in pacific, around equator.
Yeah plus space is well named
it's mostly empty space, if you hurled something into space and it keeps going it could be a million years before it hits something
or 10... or 100
It might get bent a bit around large objects but... well like the idea of launching garabe into the sun
obv too expensive but that's actually harder than you'd imagine heh
And around 2% based on current knowledge, and will only probably know properly in 2028, unless the late observations during this pass narrow it down a lot.
And there is a LOT of variables, tons of calculus going on to predict that things path
because it will be interacting with all sorts of other large bodies
Main point is that we don't know the current orbit well enough.
multiples at once,
Need more observations to pinpoint where it is right now.
Plus some people wills tart to freak out when it gets closer like wtf are you going to do about it anyhow
just ride it out heh
might hit the middle of nowhere anyhow
We have the tech already to deflect it a little.
And like I said, we already know the limits where it would hit, which doesn't affect US or Europe at all.
With any luck it'll hit DC ๐
that'll clean house fairly well
I've lived through multiple life ending events
it's getting tiresome guys...
Ok, remembered it little wrong, the possible impact zone based on current uncertainty:
And that'll be at least fairly close
It could cause damage as far as 50 km (30 mi) from the impact site.
But as seen, no-one in northern hemisphere have to even care at all directly.
Just the universe reminding you it's still there
Well, in US, Canada, EU etc.
Anybody play around in Universe Sandbox?
Playing with gravity is fun ๐
Good lord I own some nerdy shit
Kerbal Space Program is another super fun game I always go back to
And if US etc. cared, we could easily have program set up so that if 2028 first spot determines that it could still hit Earth, to have impactor mission ready to deflect it a bit so it doesn't hit.
And might be even possible during the 2032 approach, if 2028 determined it would hit.
If I understood correctly, even standard Falcon 9 could do it.
I wouldn't starve though if we played
(whispers) because i'd just eat you...
๐
whistles and gets out the sharpening stone
So are you not fan of Starship?
Or not fan of Musk?
You can like the product or company without liking Musk.
I can't look at SpaceX on it's own and see it as anything other than a pretty amazing space company heh
And if somebody is willing to dump money into that sort of thing, good.
Same for Tesla, it's either a good car or it isn't.
My neighbor has one, it's older one at this point. It's a nice car.
I think the cybertruck is a horrendous nightmare
๐
Neuralink should be able to help some folks walk, either again or for the first time ever.
People worry about more devious applications but trust me if those are viable the gooberment is already on it...
So that's happening either way. Like Musk has AI depsite preaching the dangers of AI. Why? Because him not doing it doesn't stop it.
It changes nothing if it doesn't jump in too.
He just has multiple motivations
I believe he wants to help. But at the end of the day he's a business man.
Not anymore.
Now he is insane egomaniac.
I don't think anything has changed
Went completely bat shit crazy during COVID.
other than perception ๐
And I'll leave it at that.
k
You do realize that's why trump won the popular vote right? That kind of nonsense
but keep on...
There was absolutely huge personality shift in Musk during COVID.
You are calling over half the country that, you see the problem?
when you do that... lol anyhow, I'm done with th is.
Guess i'm one of those mustache guys since i voted for trump ๐
Wait my neighbot did too... and he's black... guess he's one too
wow wait till i tell him!@
And you did that while knowing Trump too is bat shit insane egomaniac?
No im really going to tell him... he'll find this amusing
he really will
Then you'd never vote...
k im not repeating what he just told me looool
he wants me to give you a certain uhhh salute lol
And I don't know about anywhere else but around here we all get along just fine...
It';s over 20 grand just to get a child into the world
that's one reason a lot of couples here arne't having kids
and that's just to get them to the outside heh
some people literally cannot afford to have a child, which is sad
there's always been a financian aspect to it obv but for people to be opting out becuase it's so expensive is just nuts
my neice and her wife are t hinking about adopting now but they were smart and went STEM so they make decent money
they'll make good parents
She's a good kid...
mine used to want me to d/l pirate music for her ipod lol
this one im talking about now in particular
she knew uncle E knew where the goodies were hidden
jees im a great uncle now
multiple times over... with more coming im SURE
im getting too old for this, they run me ragged
But I can't resist giving them pony rides around the house and such!
how could you...
lol
or socks...
give me cold feed and good legos!
Also I'm not sure if anything is more painful than stepping on a lego...
I have cussed at lego more than any other toy...
Ugh shoes I need some
so spensive :/
somebody suggested a model of nike to me... now i can't remember what it was i'll have to ask
they said they are super super comfy
I keep 2 pair around. The old pair are my beaters i wear around the yard and stuff. But my new ones are getting meh and my beaters are about beat
All my other shoes are dress shoes
Or steel toed boots... not really waht you want to wear all day every day
I love all the cool old tech Cathode Ray Dude shows off

oh
it might as well have been

or else this dog will tear your entire house down at night
thats cool
pet that too
i found your cat โฌ๏ธ
how small does your appartment need to be to reject a doggo plushie
its not like the plushie is as big as a truck
(though that'd be cool ngl)
why would tax ppl care about a plushie ?
can't accept gifts related to their jobs
idk how it is related
but that's why I'd refuse a gift
he said it, not me

Then you are in completely wrong place.

i know
i had it before, fixed it before
and tried it again, just need a place to vent a litle, and not find a solutiong
in the past, you helped me with my Ram errors baldur
and, i saw the same crash report on forum, you assisted there aswell, i think i pinned it down to Global illumination to cause it
and the offtopic part of this is, it happend to me in PoE aswell
naw i dunno, some games make my xtx crash for some reason, in PoE it was also GLobal Illumination
im starting to regret the fact i got this xtx lol
dont get me wrong, it a good card, it runs all games i have perfectly, except Satisfactrory in DX12 with blobal illumination on
and PoE 1 with globval illumination
has been doing it since i got it, but only in select situations
Something computer specific.
Most likely related to that RAM problems or like, where the computer isn't completely stable, just almost.
Because the last tiny bit needs very specific load(s) to trigger the latent instability into real.
sound point
i did lower my ram speed to 5800, did some massive testing, and i thought i had it stable at 6000
Good luck Peturtjuhh finding the cause. I've been also there. One game (GW2 made my PC crash a lot). Other games didn't. Was so annoying finding the cause.
#off-topic-tech message around here
But Baldur told me exact same, system was stable enough for most games. And then GW2 did something to make my hardware ๐ฉ it's pants and shut down my rig.
maybe in next year imma get different MB and cpu ๐
I replaced my CPU. It's a lot more stable since then.
ia hve a 7900x should be decent enough
In Letterdiefs case, it was probably VSOC debacle kill, even when the system was built months after the fixed UEFI versions were out.
And might be related for you too, if you ever ran that same CPU with the older non-limited BIOS/UEFI versions with high RAM clocks.
Or if your MB also feeded high VSOC even when RAM was still on auto-settings.
Eventually, we lowered the Infinity Fabric Clock. Which made my system a little bit more stable. So that made Baldur believe it was CPU issue.
And CPU would keep degrading (so lowering FCLK again wont matter), so I just bought a new one.
try DDU
Well, it crashed everyday ๐
and then I played GW2 for days on end without a crash. (after FCLK temp "fix")
my XTX used to crash on alt tab because I hadn't cleaned my drivers in literally years
And after a year, it started to crash more and more again (degrading CPU stability)
DDU fixed it
weird
Really, its a long process of elimination. I can't help you. I had help from Baldur.
baldur is wise
Not that weird if it is hardware that is unstable, and not driver/software issue.
But if it is CPU, RAM or GPU that is the issue...
kina hard to pinpoint i guess?
I learned that hardware instabilities can be very subtle and sneaky. It's not because your hardware is unstable, it will crash constantly. Even one crash in a month can mean something is not 100% ok with the hardware. Atleast that's what I learned from it. And it's also very complex ๐
Need to remember that some GPUs come out of factory unstable.
yeah I had my XTX before I put in my 350 hours in satisfactory and it ain't ever crash
Same with some CPUs.
well, not until I DDU anyway lmao
and SSD's i guess
first SSD I ever had kept corrupting itself
How so? Where is GPU storing "settings" if there is no power? (GPU sits in a box in a storage for ages?)
was so bad I had to daily reinstall windows just to get my university final project done
Turbo table determination isn't 100%.
Sometimes some units get programmed too close to the limit in some specific part of operating curve.
Current CPU and GPU chips are binned, and then tested for individual turbo tables.
And there is no way we can reset that before plugging in a GPU?
It's hard baked into the GPU?
One-time fixed programming into the silicon.
Fuck. That sucks.
That is what Curve Optimizer offsets on AMD CPU side for example.
Steps in that fixed table.
same for nvidia
But where each individual CPU as its own table.
So you have the - offset the curve to counter and be safe?
even an FSR FG generated frame would look gooder than that (even from 30 base) (if it had competent TAA)
Normally there is positive margin, that is what is used to undervolt.
But sometimes some area of the table ends up not having enough margin and the CPU or GPU can be unstable out of factory in some specific load.
Very low amounts in total, but some unlucky people do end up with such units on global scale.
oe as soon as i undervolt my gpu, it crashes
That's awful for those people, cpu/gpu aren't cheap imo.
in all seriousness, is ther a good reliable way to stress test stability to "cancel" out most crashes and stuff?
Not for 100% coverage.
But basically any crashes isn't normal today, unless the specific software is buggy and only it crashes.
I understand why people just buy prebuilt machines under warranty ๐
Building your own PC is fun, but more work when things go wrong.
If you buy prebuilt from local shop, you just bring it back and tell them to fix it under warranty.
I have the opposite fear of not tightening stock cpu cooler enough lol
That's why I went with a cooler like hyper 212 evo which is much easier to install
I always hated stock cpu coolers screws...
There are alredy 3 major ISP's here (with some additional local ones). PPF doesn't stand a chance ๐
I can't imagine what older apartment buildings hallways would look like if there were 3 or more ISP's since each one has to install their own cable canal
My sister's old apartment building halway which has canals from 2 ISP's
Imagine if there were 5 ISP's. The hallway would be full of cable canals and splice boxes lol
If you want to pay for high rent and food prices, sure
How am I supposed to finish red matter game when I get motion sickness after 20 minutes of playing... ๐คฎ
My dad would probably finish the game before me even though he probably hasn't played video games in 20 years at least
He spent half of his life on the sea and motion sickness is unknown to him lol
Lol
wait till they forget to put all the ROPs on the 5070Ti & it starts losing out to 4060s
This surely won't make me seem like a crank.

Never been a drinker...
But no take AI and marry it to a traditional computer and yeah not all that scary... could be but not really
But I'm not considering traditional computers, I'm considering quantum systems.
THAT is when it gets scary
Depends on the model
I'm actually hoping this new Microsoft quantum chip is just almost all hype... heh
But claiming they can do 1 million qbit with it and doing it are two different things, so far it has 8...
I wasn't expecting the quantum stuff to srink that fast...
I haven't bothered to look into it other than the headline
