Maybe the usage of those on actual complete devices has increased.
But you cannot protect uncased things fully.
Too many possible contact points for first contact.
JTC & LTT with Electroboom really tortured some pc internals & it survived way more than i thought
Lot of ESD damage isn't instant, but causes initial damage that will worsen in use until causes instability or breakage.
just sounds kinda weird to have multiple people reporting them DOA
Needs specialist equipment to image and then painstaking visual search to confirm after initial zap.
In cases it isn't high enough for instant dead.
I would count it as confirmation bias at this time.
If there was 0.1% dead rate, lot of those people would instant get to Internet and yell.
And 1% would still be completely normal.
My local PC shop laughed at me when i asked for anti static wrist wrap.
"Never, in all the years I build PC's, have I ever used that. And never was it needed." - was their answer.
And how many broken parts or later warranty cases has that caused, but they haven't just connected the dots.
I never set foot in their again. Didn't order any parts through them either.
The shop owner clearly had their opinion about it and think it's all bullshit.
But that is very common old adage still being propagated along.
Yeah, I went there after we talked about it a year ago.
In the hope they had anti static bracelets and they just laughed at me.
Do you guys know of any decent multi GPU anti sag supports
Also, how much does it cost for a PC building shop / hardware to use bracelets?
They can write it off.
Nah, am looking myself for that. For a single GPU.
Was thinking about something like that. Srewable.
Got something like this Not exactly the same. Similar. And it sucks.
I gotta deal with the 520w brick of two gpus
Yes the upper GPU is so entirely choked its undervolted to make sure it doesn't overheat
In total with rendering im pulling at least 675-700w from wall
I was to say ... that's an interesting setup. Was wondering about temperatures for the sandwich GPU's.
Lower GPU is fine and upper GPU stays at about 70-75c loaded with a heavy undervolt
Would probably try something like:
(Kolink Core Adept VGA Support Mount / Jonsbo VC-1 Black, possibly other variants)
I am looking at a bigger case dw
But have yet to find one that is not absurdly expensive
That looks ... fragile?
And does the screw connect properly to the main rod?
Metal on metal?
Main "failure" would be that the screws don't bite enough and that would allow the holder to lower with time.
or does it eventually start slipping downwards under the weight.
Yeah, that's what I am asking.
And the main rod just looks fragile. Easy to break of the foot.
Do you have that one Baldur?
Cursed vs less cursed power setup...
Easy enough to DIY something.
But there is nothing better I know that actually can be adjusted.
And for GPU weights, perfectly adequate
For dual gpu? I don't know either. Single GPU. The one I posted adjusts better. And is more sturdy.
Since you don't screw horizontal, but vertically.
I was honestly thinking of doing that but said its probably much safer to have one GPU on its own like and the other GPU at least on two lines
Meant that dual support at different levels.
Ok, just wondering. If you know something better for single GPU, let me know.
Open for ideas.
Might need to bite the bullet and get myself a Corsair 7000D
Or something that will allow me to have the gpus a bit further apart
Or Lian Li is also good I belive.
source if you are interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxmy6A3v4Nw
Just needs to be able to support multiple gpus with more spacing that's about it
with the size of those cards its definitely not easy
I think 011 is big case. ((D) 471 x (W) 285 x (H) 513 mm)
Nope sure ain't
Two triple slots
yeah i have the 011 Vision and it's 6
unless you have the board in the lower position then it's 5... but you gain enough space for a second rear fan 😄
Water blocks 😄
most of the size is that giant chunk of metal fins lol
Possible but expensive to make and id need a huge radiator setup to handle two gpus
Cute 🤣
wideboi
Whoever decided to put manholes in the middle of the road every 10 meters deserves a bullet in the head
🤣
This is a local road to the shopping center and we call it "the alley of manholes"
I always move to the right lane and try to drive close to the curb so the manholes don't damage my car....
what is the logic?
That's the problem, there is zero logic in this
There are some rumors why this was made but you can't know if it's true
Correction: google maps distance measurement is around 20 meters, not 10
I though it was to flush the segments if needed 🤣
but that means you have other issues if you need that for every segment 😄
Not to mention this is also dangerous if some manhole cover is not properly seated in the hole. Someone online mentioned they know a friend who ran over a cover that wasn't properly seated and it damaged the wheels
O11 Mini can eat my ass, nobody in their right makes an ATX fishtank that only fits SFX PSUs

Interesting
So this is Greece, and might not actualy be Santorini...
He admits his explanation was wrong, because no uplift detected
And begins with shaming prediction of M6+ in near future based on VAN method
||and I watched this 5 minutes after reading similar prediction though of different undisclosed method of M6 to M7 in range of 5 to 15 february||
How will it turn out? will see
A seismic crisis northeast of Greece's famous island of Santorini has led to school closures due to the fact of an incredibly strong and ongoing earthquake swarm. Yet, while this earthquake swarm might initially appear to be volcanic, a deeper dive shows a likely different origin. So, is there a legitimate concern that a magnitude 6 or 7 quake m...
my H9 Flow is 7 slots 🤷♂️
you would almost need 8 slots
im not sure if that even exists
Could. I put a gpu at the bottom of my Mobo and be fine is the question
its either that or watercooling i feel
Yeah
unrelated but im pretty sure i exceeded my PSU's limit the one time i ran 2 GPU's
because i calculated 835/850W just CPU+GPU's
isn't that still too nerdy for general?
I have A 1kw so im good
it's not tech and it's more related to just sharing random stuff about the world - and especially with the feedback we both got for discussing non-tech stuff in here, I'd say it's best to put that into the other off topic channel
description of channel is still "nerd stuff here like science"
when did we receive that feedback for non-tech stuff?..
here's some tech gpu hardware software ai stuff:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEtb0punTHk
nothing drives my gears like an argument about what companies do with involvement of insider sources without any way of verifying the claims, and ofcourse "my 2 friends did X"

In this video, we provide context LTT missed in their recent "Raytracing is Now Mandato...
have you not noticed herg's and Letterdief's comments?
Only about repeating topic
Someone else talked that chat is toxic
no, it was about a discussion dragging on and on and no longer being related to the channel
But i don't remember anything about these topics being out of place
either way, it's more non-tech stuff than tech stuff
to me this channel isnt what i expected it to be...
Can we discuss about the german concept of Stoßlüften? It's nerd stuff, isn't it? 🤓
Not sure if the concept means opening all house windows for 5 minutes and letting stale air out during the morning, the day and night
Or just morning and night?
i expected mostly PC hardware / features (like upscaling RT etc.)
but from my perspective this channel is like a small community that talks about whatever it is that peaked someones interest
and most deffinately not an "off-topic-tech" channel
and i kind of feel like i dont fit in 🤷♂️
this channel isnt (for the most part) about stuff i am interested in
and if i want to talk about satisfactory i can go to #design-and-architecture or #screenshots and talk to people over there (this should be like this)
but if i want to talk tech i often find myself in the optiscaler discord or the Stalker 2 "PC-specs" channel
lightning, talk all the tech here you want.
and never here
It doesn't matter what other people are talking about 😉
I mean, it's not because other people are discussing science or anything else. You cannot post tech related topics.
I've not seen much about that in this channel tbh. It was mostly hardware related. Troubleshooting. Science. IT etc.
maybe we should ask for an off-topic-science channel? 🤔
i think that would be good for everyone
if the people in charge allowed it
it could just be me TBH
hallucintating stuff
No, I do agree that the science discussions clash with other hardware related topics/discussions lately.
And I am not saying, there shouldn't be room for such discussions. But maybe it deserves it's own channel once people start to leave the discord because of it.
it means opening all available holes for a short time to replace all used up air
the more time you spend inside, the more you should use it - sometimes multiple times a day
also, the more people there are and the smaller the room is
it's the counterpart to having your windows constantly open but only a little
instead of trickling in new air over time, you just flush the system and replenish it all in one go
be aware of drafts, those can and will slam any doors or windows that you didn't block to stay open
I was having an argument with my mother regarding this. She believes germans only ventilate house during the morning while I believe you should do it at least 2 or 3 times a day
it's usually per floor or apartment, not for the entire building
I've hardly ever had the front door open for venting
there is something that i feel is great about this channel : there is near zero toxicity
(especially when comming from the optiscaler discord🙄 )
fair enough thats basically what it is
Haven't done it for the whole house yet. Good thing I asked lol
also: opening windows and doors in other rooms only serves the purpose of creating drafts inside the apartment
its news and tech whenever something relevent happens and out of that it turns into whatever comes up in the moment
to accelerate the air replacement
nah, we hella toxic
I hate people who heard you need to ventilate the house or room and they leave the windows opened for 1 hour....
Another day, another backdoor. In this video, we're talking about the CMS8000, a medical device that contains some interesting features.

🔥 SOCIALS 🔥 Come hang out a...
really? for me it certainly doesnt seem like that
ventilating the house in the morning/evening is a good way to cool it down in the summer months
That's very specific. Why germans?
or lengthy discussions about whatever because we are bored - or to abide by XKCD 386:
https://xkcd.com/386/
especially when compared to most other tech channels i have been a part of
I'm just messing with you
that's bogus. the whole point of Stoßlüften is to NOT have windows open for a long time
in office spaces, it's usually recommended to do a few minutes every 2 or 3 hours
i was gonna say i have been too busy playing subnautica to break something and yap about it but no i have
my ram started being unstable again
For some reason, we think germans mastered the art of ventilating the house
this is true tho. bring in the cold morning air while you can, close the blinds to block sunlight, be outside most of the time, come back to a cool apartment in the evening
Sorry, but that cracks me up! 😆
I've heard many things in my life, but that's a first.
because most languages don't have a word to describe the concept of Stoßlüften - and it's become a meme for how serious Germans are about their routines
Yeah, when someone mentions ventilating the room, we always mention how germans do it
Is this real?
the true german way is to set the window on kippe
Nooooo
which is super inefficient
I used to kipp the windows in the past until I learned it's bad
Not to mention you might get mold in the ceiling because of that
yup, especially in the cold months when you want to reduce heating cost
and in the warm months when you want to minimize heat in your room
I am not doing it x minutes every y month.
I sleep with the windows open at night and that's about it 🤷♂️
Not in the cold months though.
Wish I lived in climate where you don't need AC or heating
such as?
you can design buildings in a fashion that allows them to automatically adjust to temps
Anywhere on equator although internet suggest moving to higher-altitude places
I read: San Diego
but I do think they have heating/ac there, not sure 🤔
Oh, that's hell on earth lol
San Diego, California, USA - Known for its mild, Mediterranean climate, San Diego often has comfortable temperatures year-round.
Huh, always thought San Diego was scorching hot
Winter (December to February): Average highs range from 18°C to 20°C (64°F to 68°F), and average lows range from 8°C to 10°C (46°F to 50°F). Spring (March to May): Average highs range from 19°C to 23°C (66°F to 73°F), and average lows range from 10°C to 13°C (50°F to 55°F). Summer (June to August): Average highs range from 24°C to 27°C (75°F to 81°F), and average lows range from 16°C to 18°C (61°F to 64°F). Fall (September to November): Average highs range from 23°C to 26°C (73°F to 79°F), and average lows range from 12°C to 16°C (54°F to 61°F).
That sounds like a perfect temperature range for me
I think they implemented a law here which forces companies to build nearly zero-energy buildings but I am not sure (although this has nothing to do with temperatures I believe)
might just be because my room hit as high as 32C this summer so i got too use to the warmth but yea anything bellow 23-24 i get chills and it feels horible
Wild
it does, kinda - because zero energy refers to total energy usage and that includes heating
it just means that the building has to consume at most the amount of energy it produces
I survived 40 degrees celsius outside while wearing a business suit, 25 is nothing for me
I wouldn't recommend it though lol
I've worked in temps around 40 before but it's anything but comfortable 🤣
and you accomplish that by two ways:
reduce consumption (insulation against cold and heat, intelligent lighting) and improve production (solar panels, heat recycling)
There are also architecture styles that can work wonders to manage indoor temps
I remember I generated more sweat in 1 hour than my dehumidifier collects moisture in few days
I do that, i'm not in Germany or german
it makes sense, instead of letting the breze constantly move air around, negating thermal insulation and AC
although, in summer, I mostly just keep balcony door open unless outside is sunny & hot or humid
this sounds like more generic and less nerd than anything talked here, hehe
I seriously need to install solar panels asap so I can use AC for both cooling and heating. Gas boilers are expensive to buy and maintain
What does zero-energy mean? That the building can consume zero energy? Or that the whole setup, that means including resources for building materials, solar panels etc, requires zero energy?
have you seen how much Germans nerd about this stuff?
in most contexts, it means net-zero operation
in less common ones, it actually means zero consumption
because the solar panels, that you place on top of the building, to make them, you also need energy right? And the transport requires energy.
I heard german landlords demand you to ventilate the apartment or they will kick you out lol
before I started talking about science and climate, I don't think it was discussed here outside of green & energy topics
As you said - people talk about their peak interest. it's not like you can't add to it. Even if you will get shouted on if it's not nerd, science or hardware programming.
tech is all of those things, and tech is an instrument of science. without tech, there wouldn't be nerds (even medieval book writing, early telescopes and geometry tools are tech)
but why?..
Mhm. I think I get it.
Come to my house during winter and you will learn why
Fair.
I once needed to stay in hotel-studio-apartment for nearly a month
I got comment that mold that formed near windows was from keeping it too hot
that's despite daily opening windows to keep the fresh air in since otherwise I couldn't work or sleep
upfront energy cost isn't included - cuz you also need energy to build the house n all that shit
exactly.
So to get real net zero everything, it's kinda the next step.
some will, yeah - but that's primarily because a lack of venting can and eventually will cause mold to form
so they're essentially kicking you out for treating the apartment so poorly that it creates a health and safety hazard
Can't argue with that
for now, neutral operation is a big goal on its own.
also: using renewably sourced building materials is a key part to lower emissions
cuz planting trees alone ain't helping if you're not removing that formed biomatter from the cycle
Do you know these? You can open the handle you see marked with red box.
for a tiny bit of ventilation
And they (company is Velux) claim that's enough airflow.
highly doubtful
I had that window type a long type ago until we replaced the roof
Oh, yeah. Haha 😄
Short summary of nzeb building on a picture
dang, I wonder if those high performance windows can run Crysis
It can, it's Windows
make sure you dont acidentally tab out of your windows
🤣
Laugh all you want. But they are better than W11.
Also, the images are clearly marketing. But you can still open the windows for real airflow. It's just nice to have a little bit going.
My coworker recently got a new laptop with W11. I pray that she learns the new interface when copy/pasting files
I have windows 11 but I changed the settings and have the old copy/paste interface
The new one is a nightmare
I haven't got it yet.
Since Microsoft is going to end support in late 2025, our company will be forced to switch to W11
I think most laptops support it without problems
windows 11 is fine 😐
to be honest the only complaint i still have left is said drop down in the folders
bah i want my DOS back!
especially renaming being buried
shakes his walker
well maybe idk but you either have to go trough properties or show more options then rename
Yeah, that's exactly what I was referring to
You can change the settings in W11 and use the old style
We got outlook update in the company, everyone moved to a new style and switched back to the old style immediately when they realized the new interface is terrible lol
just press F2 🙃
not just the interface. lots of functions missing too
That's not good UX.
The biggest issue I noticed is group mailboxes
I have like 15 group mailboxes in outlook lol
Oh, F2 is for renaming.
Since I am a new admin for most of them
I though it would copy the path 😦
shared calenders don't work, plugins don't work, etc
Didn't last 1 hour in a new UI 🤣
Hope they don't make it mandatory because I am going to be pissed
How about using a different client?
Company mandates outlook
Why did this get made? Here is the LONG list of missing features.

They also have a contract with Microsoft since they sell office 365 licence
Yeah, that's to be expected. But if enough people complain. And even the top doesn't like it. They might ditch it 🤣
💩
Bet the company has a huge discount on MS office and that's why they are forcing it
corporate world is so rigid in reality.
If there is one thing I learned working for an ISP which is also publicly-traded, they only care about cutting costs in virtually anything
i think the office suite/Microsoft suite might have some of the worst most inefective ui out of anything still in use by the masses
My coworker complained how the company once had excellent engineers but they costed money and decided to replace them with students or interns 💀
And now the management board is complaining that the work quality is in decline. Well, no s**t sherlock. You just replaced experienced engineers with cheap labor, what did you think would happen?
easy ditch the quality control team
then it's cheap AND does not have quality issues
:clueless:
which nand type is the best again?
Tlc is usually the best balance of capacity and encurance
it lack rqd14k perf
what purpose?
only ssd for my laptop
MAP1602, no question
most power efficient low heat controller out there, especially nice for laptop use
beware of variable config drives tho
also: good QLC > shitty TLC
its not listed in the filter list
by what did you filter?
nothing its jsut not listed
oooooooh gen3
i like my crucial p5 plus
yea I know
what do you need DRAM for? HMB literally exists
less reliable
says who?
I hate HMB, on linux its not configured well and I CBA to configure it properly
DRAM controllers run hotter than DRAMless tho
it's a matter of fact
it is less reliable
it just can't be as reliable for too much reasons
source: trust me bro
anyways, how much less reliable is it? to the point that you're getting old af hothead hardware instead?
I don't see any storage provider tuning ram to a point it may have errors
while for a laptop I could see
this is literally the first time I'm hearing about HMB being an issue for Linux or just OC use in general
Lexar?!?!
oh wait yeah lexar
if anything, ADATA has pulled a lot of partswap shenanigans in the past
Lexar is the only one I've seen so far to give you a silent upgrade: there were instances of NQ790 having TLC NAND
I'm not saying hmb is bad
I'm just saying it's less reliable
the first of all thing is it can't be tested in every situation by manufacturer which dram can be
I don't wanna spend $91 on an ssd
i mean depends on size. $91 for 2tb is pretty good
what country? and I believe you're looking for 1TB?
absolutely not, no
USA
1tb(can be more if good deal)
single sided
it was last time i was looking
back in the day ssd was $1 per GB
good 1TB in the US is like $60
did things change?
is what my requirements are
Yes, they absolutely did
https://pcpartpicker.com/products/internal-hard-drive/#sort=price&A=800000000000,24000000000000&D=1
Choose Storage
C910 a MP44L used to be great, but both got swapped
wanna buy stock now before tariffs screw me to the moon and back
XG7000 idk
Also dram can be used while bus is cut
hmb can't
G50 is IG5220, solid but hotter than MAP1602
and that matters why exactly?
crucial shouldn't go up much since they are made in the usa
oh yea it needs to run cool because its in a laptop with no active cooling
wd stuff is too iirc
I might buy a crucial drive then
data consistency when host fail
competly or temporarily
who tf is Klevv
that will either fuck your wallet or fuck the people using the drive
why the second possibility ?
crucial has been good to me
P3, P3+
p3 was always meant to be low end tho
yup, but people hardly ever realize HOW low end it is
do I buy the predator drive?
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/GyZ9TW/acer-predator-gm7000-1-tb-m2-2280-nvme-solid-state-drive-bl9bwwr105
and think that because it says Crucial on the box it's a good drive
GM7000 is Rainier, don't
i guess, i feel that the issue is behind the keyboard for that tho
when i got my t500 it was a pretty good deal
the IG5236 controller codename Rainier is known to be suicidal and cause drive issues in an accelerated matter
I mean if it is as low as it only makes sense when not used..
T500 is one of the highest end gen4 drives on the market tho
anyways, if someone says they're buying Crucial, that more than likely means an uneducated pick
also hothead
it was 1tb for about 90 during the price issue things
its currently $90
how the fuck does C925 redirect me to Amazon UK
I would be fine with a WD ssd. HDD not really
including mta18asf4g72az-3g2r ?
bless you
- model over brand
- you said that heat matters. get a MAP1602 drive for that. dramless tho
i remember WD did something really bad awhile ago tho
i forgor what it was exactly but it led to data loss
the most energy efficient NVMe controller on the market rn
mmm ymtc (acer predator drive)
Lexar isnt good?
good chance it will no longer be allowed to enter the country
they are good
NM710 or NM790
only ones with guaranteed MAP1602 that I've seen so far
maybe Addlink A93/S93 too
well they all use ymtc nand
except the 710 that uses micron
and one teamgroup ssd that ues hynix
and C925
I don't see how that's an issue tho
ymtc is on the sanctions list
ive never heard of ymtc
you hadn't heard of Klevv either, doesn't make them bad
the chinese version of tsmc, they are trying to get to very low node sizes
YMTC pioneered 232L NAND
they aren't bad, they are just geopolitical rivals and that means that the gov doesn't like them very much
well if the stock is in the US already then i might as well buy the KLEVV
true
anyways, one of the best gen4 configs especially for heat and sustained writes is MAP1602 + YMTC X3
it looks like it comes with a metal heatsink too
with NM790 at $85 tho, I'd rather make the C925 for <$70 work
which doesn't matter tbh
the main problem with unknown brands is warranty problems
especially in a laptop where it could cause physical incompatibility
neither Klevv nor Lexar is unknown
and even "known" brands can have shoddy warranty or wonky practices
Lexar isnt, klevv is
addlink okay, I'll give you that
the patriot ssd with the MAP1602 is only $61
VP4300L isn't MAP1602
it's E27T
the spreadsheet lies
they're under the same umbrella company as Hynix
https://www.anandtech.com/show/8927/new-challenger-klevv-dram-modules-house-brand-of-sk-hynix
Essencore thus created KLEVV to cover the DRAM side of the equation, kind of making KLEVV a customer/vertical integration partner of SK Hynix, although the two are separate entities under the same umbrella, SK Group.
1TB and 2TB are E27T + Bics6
4TB is MAP1602 + QLC
theres a 1tb MAP1602
as one option
with the more likely one being the E27T swap
yup or you could lose
if you wanna gamble tho, MP44L is the better pick
it's been Realtek'd recently but it's more reliable MAP than VP4300L
can we make it illegal to part swap
anyways, if you want guaranteed MAP1602, get C925, NM710 or NM790
https://www.techpowerup.com/ssd-specs/silicon-power-us75-1-tb.d2288 this one is $60 and only ships with MAP1602
it's a sidegrade for the most part, you lose out on sustained performance and power efficiency
4TB version is QLC, lemme see if I can find reports on the 1TB version
if the 1tb is tlc ill buy it
1TB seems to be fine
hm, VP4300L only E27T on 2TB according to TPU, I could've sworn it was also 1TB
im so happy tax where I live is like only 6.5% instead of 8.5 where I used to live
I got tired of running out of space... so I got 4TB
hm, E27T rumored on 1TB too but confirmed for only 2TB
https://www.reddit.com/r/NewMaxx/comments/1ealoeu/beware_4tb_patriot_viper_vp4300_lite_wqlc/
when I get my next paycheck ill be back asking yall on advice for an upcoming nas build I plan on doing
same, NM790 my beloved
third cheapest 4TB NVMe when I got it and only by like 2€
This one was on sale at the time for $250
I legit have no use for 4tb
on a server yes but when its over 2.5gig hdds will be plenty fast
yippee
I don't either, but I had use for adding over 1TB and since I didn't feel like holding back, I got 4TB instead of 2TB
plus, I had only one more m.2 slot unoccupied, so I wanted to make it count
can run the maxio SSD analyzer tool to see what it uses
yup when I get it i will do that
currently I have an https://harddrivemart.com/samsung-mzvlb512hbjq-000l7-internal-ssd.html in my laptop
Buy Samsung MZVLB512HBJQ-000L7 PM981A Series 512GB PCI-Express 3.0 x4 NVMe 3D NAND TLC M.2 2280 Solid State Drive ( at harddrivemart.com and avail 10% discount.
hm, so E27T is still a comparably efficient controller, just not MAP1602 level
so 970 Evo Plus in the OEM variant
I got the Samsung 990 Evo Plus
yea it came with my thinkpad x1 extreme g2
ah yes, the still mismarketed bigger brother of the famously mismarketed gen4 drive
I also have a OCZ Vertex 3 90GB I can plug in for some extra storage if I need it...
just a NAND upgrade
i don't much care what it's it.. it's big and it's fast
*in it
if i dug that deep into everything i'd never get anything done
tbf, any SSD is fast if your usecase is nonsensitive enough
the only question I have is this:
did you buy it because it was advertised as PCIe gen 5?
I sure love the 2s I save by going with highend Gen5 instead of lowend SATA
only found benchmarks for the 2TB NM790
it do be going nyooom tho
anyways, good night yall
looks like the lexar holds the speed
but does the steady lines below that beat it overall in actually doing things
because it starts slower but remains the same and ends up faster well before the end of the test
sabrent q4 looks to be fast and consistent, im assuming the plus g is the same drive with cache
Uses more writes to handle the page table.
And main RAM errors can corrupt the drive in theory.
Or stuff like that BSOD error stuff from Windows update on some HMB drives until firmware update.
HMB is about making cheaper drive, not better drive.
DRAMless drive on costs, that performs better than purely DRAMless one, but worse than one with DRAM.
And uses less FLASH writes than DRAMless, but more than one with DRAM.
If that RAM error happens in the space allocated and used by HMB page table.
OS could also overwrite it (in case of bugs)
LAN level RCE in Marvel Rivals kernel mode anticheat:
https://shalzuth.com/Blog/IFoundAGameExploit
Wtf
This is large part why kernel mode anticheats are so hated.
As the code quality is often pretty shitty and exposes the users to this kind of exploits.
Allows for RCE, as it doesn't check where that patch is actually coming from.
Neither server or code signature.
You can trust my code
literally a malware
but it got reviewed by a closed contract third party company for sure
Lgtm!
And more energy efficient (lower heat) drive.
Also, BSOD error was with WD's proprietary stuff as far as I am aware
Only by the power usage of the DRAM chip itself.
And then needing more PCIe traffic, CPU IMC use and main RAM use.
So I would expect that the whole system power usage goes up significantly.
MAP1602 and E27T drives run cooler than E18
That is about specific controller implementation, not about DRAM vs HMB.
At this tier of drive, it's both
E18 only has SM2264 (used in only two drives) and IG5236 (suicidal) as direct competition
E25 in a single drive, also hot
You should have said that the current HMB controllers are more power efficient.
Over current DRAM-using controllers.
Plus proprietary stuff
You said that HMB itself is the thing causing that difference.
Okay, yeah, fair point
HMB isn't inherently cooler, we just haven't had an exception to the rule yet
And like I said, it might be on drive level, but on total system level that HMB needs lot extra power from other components.
Also often the cheap DRAM SSD controllers are the leftovers from older generation.
While the HMB ones are probably newer.
As each PCIe gen etc. will first be implemented in DRAM-using controller.
And only later on HMB one, so the HMB one will often be on newer node.
after last update of driver, noticed in couple of games how game just blacks out on alt-tab for a second or until next alt-tab
I just figured that astronomy before telescopes is one of the wildest examples of "scientific consensus" gone wrong
Literally, dozens of thousands of years of observations, of the same phenomena over and over, and yet, models that weren't allogned with dogma weren't even allowed.
Especially, retrograde of planets - it takes completely new model to understand how this can be described as an emergent behaviour from system of rules, and not as an oddity.
Keeping topics tech: WelchLabs made recent video where showed how in history of ML switch from boolean to float amplitudes granted incredible ability to learn
here thats more like 31-34C in the summer
here in winter it can be below zero and in summer up to 40
I remember we had double digit negatives and over 40C (shade temp without any shade)
the temperature here can change 20 to 30 degrees in one day without any problem several times a day
I doubt that it is actually a lot.
IMC is communicating with RAM anyway, HMB takes up like 64MB at most of already efficient SO-DIMM and DRAM or not, the drive is still doing stuff
and even if all you said was true: the power consumption would occur over multiple components distributed across the entire device.
the total heat output is bigger, but the localized heat output is less
i've made a few image quality comparisons if anyone is interested

How is Stalker 2 atm? Improved?
i havent played it in a while
(and i dont generally feel the itch to play games)
nvm.
all i know is that patch 1.1 was pretty good
You sure?
Because it's recent that is mixed. Average is Positive. Seems people are pissed for something.
(other than having to delete the shader cache and disable the shader compile screen)
Just not sure how worth it is to benchmark a game being acused of being broken.
they have had patches since
1.1
which is the last time i played
Recently posted 4 februari.
true
but these were the only image comparisons i wanted to make
as i dont have many other games to test
Also, one screenshot is an imposter.
that actualy have upscaling and arent also broken
which ?
Gun... gun ... gun... no gun and factories 😉
two actually
the last 2 links are from satisfactory
image slider is cool.
that would be required to spot shimmering
but
the SF ones have no shimmer

oh lord the new discord ui is bad
enshitification?
Why does everything look so cramped?
idk but i hate it
🫡
Why do they even do it
Which furry on their dev team thinks these changes are good
I don't have the change (yet).
But discord has been going down the hill for years with their UI updates.
more likle a crack head den a furry
These can all be cleaned up. Just put an emoticon icon for emoticons and gifs. All the rest is crap. Get rid of stickers. Their Nitro. Just delete it all
This can be gone too.
Discord is actually so bloated atm.
I remember when the settings had 10 sections or something.
Now it's 30!
Used more resources than steam.
it's Probably ming bitcon or something because how else do they get their money
because a stoned crakhed who drank 2 bottles of apsint can't write such unoptimized code
wow FSR looks very pixelated here
i never saw that while playing though
also lots of ailiasing
they all look like gabage here TBH
(especially when zoomed in)
BRUH
i sent the exact same sites links previously and i didnt get this message
🤬
Because bot was broken earlier.
i guess

Oh god
my PC is bursting into flames
after a recent upgrade I got a better GPU and now my CPU is bursting into flames
I had to open the window and let freezing air in so that it can cool down
it reached 84 degrees 😭
Blame windows
my factory isn't even running
Satisfactory the first true seasonal Game. I can't play it when it's above freezing outside
just pour some liquid nitrogen on the ground

Even 1 bottle of absynthe is enough to kill a human
I tried a shot of absynthe without mixing it with water, felt like drinking sulfuric acid
nah I'm just going to put may gaming Setup in a dedicated freezer
now that I think of it
I wouldn't be surprised if someone drank several bottles a day because alcoholics are alcoholics
sulfuric acidis delicious no
Had to use an extreme metaphor to describe the pain lol
it can't be worse than the water from the lake
I heard there was this guy who made very good paintings. He drank a lot of absinthe I believe.
the after taste after you drank the water should not be so long I felt it in my mouth for at least a minute
I think Tool band used drugs when making music videos because they are so bizarre and unexplainable
Not even my wildest dreams can be compared to Tool music videos
time for a fan curve re-adjustment
I don't even need to open a window for that
It's one of the band members btw who does the clay animation.
Tool is a really creative band.
my point is single ship tuned dram is Much more efficient than system ram
which is inherently tuned for performance and is only accessible through multiple hops
both literally and internally
in ssd ram is tuned for power and reliability
it does not need to be that fast
not sure on that, will have to take your word for it
still, DRAM vs system RAM leaves out the controller itself
keep in mind system ram hits above 50GB/s effective access speed, not even talking about ddr5
going on the pcie bus is not inherently more efficient
pcie is known to burn a lot of power actually
a simpler and slower controller will always be colder
remember: heat is the concern, battery life is secondary
my point is the ssd dram is not what generate heat
wasn't my point either
it's the controllers that use DRAM that run hot
not the DRAM chip itself
it's the controller that performs complex operation fast that runs hot
I would like to see some performance like for like temperatures comparisons
welp, NM790 uses MAP1602, a super efficient dramless controller - while T700 is a much hotter E26
#off-topic-tech message
if your laptop use the ssd half the time it will have less time to ramp up
in a laptop, half the time the SSD's performance is completely negligible anyway
my point is no controller will run hot if it's unused
but faster will mean less time used
for what operations
that's my point
it should show power operations normalized
I just took a shortcut to the results
results are on the page, KC3000 is consistently above NM790, only in idle to they sit on a comparable level
the S70 Blade in the testing should be IG5236, the other mainstream highend controller that uses DRAM
I do see the chart
the most relevant one is game loading
it does show it is more efficient
but it's closer
I hate single point charts like this
still 75% higher power draw on the E18
when it actual should be a weighted geomean of difference of the curves
(3d result ranking)
anyways, overall, NM790 ain't worse than KC3000 but it comes at a much lower power draw
Why is there a VR version of Microsoft Excel in Meta store? 😂 😂
That is like the most inefficient way to use excel in general
Microsoft Excel is 2D.
Microsoft Excel VR is 3D tables.
Good luck selecting the right cell or typing in anything on a virtual keyboard
No wonder rating is 2.3 lol
And putting it in "productivity" category is kinda ironic considering it's VR version

huh. i thought it would be strix halo
though it did occur to me the unified RAM would make it real appealing to AI users
AMD 🙂
we already got the steam machine and steam deck
why would you think this would be any different?
its just yet another bad deal console with nothing unique to offer with the xbox button layout if you want it raw
but it wouldn't have the console like experiance of overpriced games because it would be linux
another day, another reminder from my quest 2 that i bought a quest 2
this is truly rock bottom
colors, brightness and contrast went all out of whack last night... seems windows decided to update one displays color profile to something that clearly wasn't correct
windows also offered to update my amd display drivers... big fat noap
Y'all will appreciate the fact that my small apartment kept at 15c used literal MWh of power this month
1600 kWh
You vs the guy she says don't worry about
Doing my semi-handoff to the new system
New desk showed up a day early, so I've been working my ass off
5600X/6800XT to a 9800X3D/4090
nice
New mobo and tower have a total of 18 usb ports, so that'll help a lot
Rat's nest wasn't bad, just a LOT
why 18 usb ports? that's insane lol
Oh I won't fill them all in, but I do have vr stuff to slot in
Mine has 1x type-c, 1x type-a (both 3.2 gen 2) and 1x USB 3.2 Gen 1
and 3 old 2.0/2.1 ports
My old mobo had 4, so I grabbed a 7x usb aic, so I could bump it up to 25 ports if I want to
then on the case 1x usb c and 2x usb type a
the board supports 4 usb 2's but those are occupied with fan stuff and i don't need more legacy ports anyhow
I'm thinking of naming this one Glorious Overkill
oh my bad it's 3x usb 3.2 gen 1 usb-a's
My old tower is named Frankenputer because of how it came together over the years
i have a couple key board, mouse, controller and an audio interface
oh and my katana amp is usually plugged in too
I have 3 vr sensors, then a hdmi and usb for the headset
those are all "permanent"
but audio interface 2.x is as good as 3.x... same for keys and mice
i have a gear vr... that'll get plugged in too i guess
speaking of audio interface i gotta install the katana shit
Yeesh
since new install of winblows
Yea jumping to 11 is prolly gonna suck
lol yes than a year later the page says discontinued product
And I have 4 drives to transplant
the mk3 came out like 6 months after i got it
I'll definitely be letting y'all know how this goes
i would still call the old one nice lol
So less than full-HD rendering at 30 FPS or so...
Oh it's still plenty nice 🤣 but man when top end drops in on you, you don't say no
Currently mid-yeet on just throwing my old drives into the new one
Oh it's turned into a thing
I should throw it in just to see that 90GB whopper in file explorer lol
There are three easy to get to mounts, only two are used
Had to drop the psu to access the sata power, and now I have to drop the gpu to access the mobo sata
lol
already have sata power avail... just need to run the data cable
too much work for 90Gb lol
Yea this gets me up to 34tb transferred over to the new system
i kinda want some of those lian li infinity mirror fans now...
for the rad
and rear
i probably won't get the fans because it's basically 100 bucks for 3 of them lo
the other 3 were like 80 and i could justify them since i needed some intakes
Yea I did noctua on the intake for my old system
the one good fan i had in the old system was on the cpu heatsink, one of those grey noctuas
i gotta say tho the lian li's seem nice too, quiet
i threw the noctua in this one as a rear exhaust
def held up way better than the 30 dollar 3 pack lol
i think it was more but you get the point, the inexpensive fans did not hold up... they work but aren't in as good of shape
Oh I've got a $12 3 pack waiting, kinda want to see how they do
the noctua is... still like new heh
yeah it kinda depends i've gotten those cheapy packs before
Yea same with mine, going on 5 years
sometimes they're decent, never gotten anything great
sometimes they are... well garbage lol
i had one 3 pack where 2 failed inside of 6 months
but that's why for my cpu coolers i go with a good fan... go ahead and spend the 20-30 for one fan heh
At least it's the cheapest fix for a pc
yeah in a pinch you can switch them out dirt cheap
my old fans will... become a fume extractor for soldering
as much as i love the smell of soldering i do not like inhaling vaporized metals like lead
K, gpu yanked out and cables installed
Too bad it took 20 minutes of fighting with the goddamn screws
Thermalright? Could try any of their S-FDB V2 fans. Cost a bit more but more reliable.
An example of a cpu cooler that has V2 fans is the phantom spirit evo with the K12 fans.
Hey, all drives recognized, new system officially alive
Nice
Crap, now I gotta get all my software installed and active
lol
it's the games that are fun... given the size of some of them
i've spent the last days getting things i overlooked or forgot
True, but I've been using discord on my phone all day
I got lucky af, get to be helpdesk in the military during winter while others are getting their training in the woods.
The variation of game load times between different nvme SSDs is really small. Even when comparing the low end gen3 stuff with gen5 drives.
the big jump was from mechanical to solid state, removed a huge bottleneck
that little 90gb drive was purchased as a system drive even at it's inflated cost
Gave up for the night. Turns out the win11 on it is both pro and unactivated, no way to just downgrade to home without a full reinstall
And the activation key I have is old so which means I suspect that I'll probably have to install 10 first, then activate it, then install 11
I bought a new key since old one invalid on this board
Oh joy, more fun
Dropped down to win10 amd now it won't recognize any network drivers
Like even a hard line
If you have WiFi 7 or recent onboard nic win10 will not support them
I have to use a usb WiFi adapter on a x870e board
Are you on Internet on that computer?
Should be in LAN too in that case.
Yea wired in, nothing
Should be installable drivers available?
Moment...
What motherboard?
No drivers available, only on windows 11
thanks to point exactly why what I said is completely consistent
Just means I have to install 11. At least the win10 activation took my key
Intel BE cards have Win10 drivers.
And all wired LAN chips, even newest ones, should have Win10 drivers.
Didn't know wifi 7 was a win11 only thing
The issue is WiFi
At Wifi7 speed it is.
But should still allow use at Wifi6.
Yea but I'm also hardlined and still no internet
(windows can be free to activate :3)
Idk if Ethernet work I don’t have any kind of cabled internet of optic fiber
Need to manually install LAN driver.
I tried Linux mint and WiFi worked out of the box
To download on another computer, move to new, install.
Same key since windows 8, didn't pay a dime
Asus lists the drivers only on Win11 side, but those do work in Win10 too.
very nice, resourceful
Yea just gonna grab a win11 upgrade usb to install it. The main issue is that I couldn't just downgrade from pro to home with the key, needed to do a fresh install
What specific motherboard is it?
There are x870 motherboards that don't come with integrated wifi, but it's rare to see
Seems that MediaTek Wifi7 chips don't have Win10 compatible drivers, which is what is sold on AMD AM5 boards as AMD branded.
Intel has those Win10 drivers that make the WiFi7 cards work as Wifi6 cards under Win10.
So MediaTeks choice to not support.
Convenient
On the Asrock X870e taichi you don’t have the drivers for windows 10. I tried the windows 11 version and nothing work. Maybe I should see directly on the realteck website
At least I have other options to grab the upgrade and get back to normal
I tried Linux mint in live environments and it work perfectly fine
It’s a windows 10 thing
This one?
Yup
You mean for Wifi?
Or wired LAN?
Wifi, i dont have lan
Like I said, the MediaTek Wifi7 chips don't have Win10 drivers, as MediaTeks choice.
And those are what comes in most AM5 boards if they have onboard Wifi, as that is who AMD partnered with.
That’s why I will switch to Linux
Am I blind or is that not wifi drivers right there for windows 10?
Just use windows 11, you have the hardware for it clearly
Wired LAN driver
But this one isn't on Win10 side, as Mediatek hasn't made Win10 driver:
@severe obsidian unless no wifi driver listed
Yup
And you can install that Win11 driver successfully in Win10, but it will error out and not actually work.
Such an expensive motherboard and it doesn't fuken work properly on windows 10? Stupid
When Windows tries to use it.
Yeah I was amazed too
just, use windows 11
As Win11 has extra stuff for Wifi7 that Win10 doesn't.
@severe obsidian I still see not way you can't recover your pc unless you did some mistake physically
And Mediatek hasn't coded the fallback to Win10 compatible set in.
Nah il stick with mint, I already have a Linux machine so I know it works
Same with Bluetooth, you need Win11 to get BT5, Win10 maxes at BT4.
Well, I doubt it
For your information, it's a Shuttle XPC Sh67r5
what's the old and new ram ?
500w weirdly shaped flexATX PSU, proprietary motherboard size,
Old ram was 3 sticks of 2gb each Kingston low profile ram
New ram was a 2x8gb Samsung kit
Both 1333mhz
why would the old one not work anymore ?
did you put it back in the right slots ?
of the 4 slots only specific ones are to be used depending on configuration probably
the Samsung ones are 1600
Windows key upgrading has been tweaked Cuyar.
you'd think id know that, but i dont
theres 3 sticks of 2gb, not exactly a normal configuration
He got computer with preinstalled, non-activated Win Pro.
And only had Win Home key.
Downgrade isn't allowed.
I was talking about that. 😄
What's going on with Microsoft today?
Flyby11 marked as a risk.
They removed information on how to bypass TMP 2.0.
Microsoft blocks free Windows 11 24H2 system requirements bypass app as potential malware
but you know what slot you got it from
So make sure you reuse the same slots

Promoting users to use linux
every single day
Fair.
i did all of that
Don't get me wrong, I mean. Microsoft is promoting users to linux everyday 😊
wdym "all of that" ?
there a single ok configuration
there are no configurations that work
do you remember what was the original one
yes i do
Does it work with just any single old DIMM?
and that still didnt work
no
sounds like you are not locking it properly or something
omfg
ive been making computers for 4 years
i think i Know how to plug in ram
it doesnt matter, i talked to my uncle and he can look at getting a different verified kit of ram, or otherwise can possibly replace it next week
ngl you sounds like a troll again
you claim making computers for years
then talk about asking your uncle
be aware some people in this channel literally built computers for a living for maybe more than a decade
???
Dude, the 2nd pc was a pc I got from my uncle years ago
Well, dead CPU or MB from handling damage when trying to switch the RAM is always possible too.
Im just reusing it for the dedicated server
True, can't believe I could be so careless
Even though I was careful
But it is either that, or RAM sticks not inserted correctly.
And the second is very easy to miss.
In 1000% sure the ram sticks were inserted correctly
Worst time to do any electronics repair on northern hemisphere currently, so low air humidity.'
It's ddr3 ram, it's even easier to tell which way goes which because of the incredibly off-center notch
Not that, but if it is fully inserted, or 1mm too high and not locked.
When that needed fully inserted force can seem excessive.
I heard audible clicks every single time I switched ram, so that's not it.
it's not a me problem, it's a pc problem
does it have both side locks ?
That old, yes.
Anyone dare to guess what this is? 🤣
flux capacitor
Seems to be from Whirlpool refrigerator.
Temperature control board.
i can see you need to re-fuckulate the carbonator
No, not exactly that one.
Ok, for different model than the one I first found, but same purpose.
So I started playing Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. Never played the first. So far... well you know how games have cutscenes
this is like a cutscene with a game?
Also contains the power supply from AC to regulated low voltage DC for that functionality.
That U205 is probably the actual chip with the logic?
Or might be just that power supply board, and the actual logic is on another?
Even when they stuck that SW version into that label too.
With simracing gear does not take much 😄
close
it's the system for the closed door, for the lights to go on etc 😄
There is separate PCB for temperature measurements and compressor control then?
Yes
This is other side.
When you close the door, the part near on/off button is pushed in en lights go off
Thats what broke my fridge for weeks.
And that seems to have at least the temperature setting in it.
And was named as Temperature control board in spare parts sites.
Yes, it also controls the light.
Thats fairly average actually
I have 17 and i think 16 on my 2 computers
2 usb c each and the rest usb a
I don't think that's average
do the cases have like an unusual amount of USB ports in the front?
Like, more than 3-4?
Most motherboards have 10 + 2 extra generally dedicated for keyboard and mouse plus the ones on your case
Also funny. It's not a whirpool fridge 😄
Some other brand owned by Whirlpool then.
All the major manufacturers own several older brands now.
That's what I am looking up atm.
Either they have deal with whirpool for that particular piece of hardware.
Or it's like you said.
What brand is it officially?
Hisense-Whirlpool (Zhejiang) Electric Appliances Co Ltd is a joint venture between Hisense Kelon and Whirlpool formed in 2008 for the development and production of washing machines and refrigerators
I am a bit confused. How Atag, which seems to be a Dutch company. Has a chinese company as parent.
But has American parts in it.
I didn't expect it, but makes sense.
Remember that in China, Chinese nationals must own controlling share of any company.
So for western company to have Chinese subcompany, it is actually minority partner in it.
Including for factories etc.
Also remember that no-matter what reads on the machine, it is almost certainly wholly produced in China.
Well, that's the question.
Either Whirpool fucked up. Or Hensine.
Because the fridge was 2 years and 4 months. (4 months out of warrant)
and the piece that broke down, is what I posted (whirpool).
With that installation location for complex PCB without any kind of waterproof coating, seems like intentional design for planned obsolescence.
Normally, a fridge shouldn't break down after 2 years.
I was thinking the same. I even said it to a friend yesterday. "You would almost think they planned this."
We will see now, they put in another PCB. If it breaks in 2 years we know the answer 🤣
I just noticed the sticker on PCB. Let me see if I can get picture.
It's readable in the original.
Or was that the new one?
The one in previous pic was manufactured on 2022-02-23 or 2023-02-22.
So, PCB is made in China and they slapped Whirpool logo on it?
Or the QA was done in China and final production and they slapped sticker on it? (but PCB made in USA).
That is part of the PCB design.
Just means Whirlpool was part of the PCB design.
Nothing else.
A bit misleading no?
Or that it was designer for Whirlpool.
Just standard stuff.
And like I said, all the Whirlpool fridges will be manufactured in exact same factory as those HiSense and subbrand ones.
Just that that Odin Enhanced stuff was left out.
So, American company, manufacturing fridges in China?
Yes?
Almost nothing is manufactured in US.
Some final assembly done for high-end products.
I don't know about that. But I get your sentiment.
But even for those the parts will be made in china, and usually to pretty high level.
Almost no consumer goods that aren't perishable are made in western countries.
And for almost all consumer electronics, no matter the brands owners country of origin, will be manufactured in China.
so im was having this issue with MHW
Can you clarify perishable?
I am not sure what you mean by that.
things or food items that can expire
That lot of food is "local", but almost nothing else is that normal consumers can buy.
canned food doesnt
Seems Whirlpool does at least do that final assembly for their own brand NA sold stuff in USA.
But almost certainly from Chinese made assemblies.
