#

me having 900 download and 500 upload thinking it was great

#

also how tf can you have upload as good as download

#

it is usually haft the speed of download

midnight osprey
sharp oasis
#

it can be near syncronus

midnight osprey
#

the engineer today told me he had no idea why it would be limited

#

much better pings now too

tough owl
#

thanks yt

night girder
#

85 views hehe very trending

edgy hazel
#

yeah recently it gave me a video of someones like 12 year olds birthday party

#

btw I see you Noah. Happy belated birthday.

night girder
#

They want to give smaller viewers a chance, so every x video is low view. Regardless of quality.

tough owl
#

its nice

#

but also kinda annoying

night girder
#

Mixed feelings.

edgy hazel
#

which tbh is really fun.

night girder
#

I understand what they trying to do, but this is not the way.

tough owl
#

yea

night girder
#

Half the time, I get the wrong videos. Not suited for me.

#

and really crappy quality 😒

tough owl
#

I like the concept of supporting smaller creators but its not even remotely with something im interested in

edgy hazel
#

nah it's fun. Sometimes you get just pure gold

night girder
#

it's always the 3rd video in the list at the side.

tough owl
night girder
#

"How to get Sandbox Mode Codes in Roblox Toilet Tower ...." 753 views

languid gulch
#

or like surgery videos without warning

#

like wtf

night girder
#

Yeah, shiity code.

tough owl
night girder
#

Good intentions, but shit code 😂

tough owl
#

tf you watching is my question

edgy hazel
#

yeah a lot of the time it's just pure garbage. Like wtf is Linus Tech Tips?

tough owl
#

youtube back at it

night girder
languid gulch
#

🤣 was permascrolling thru shorts cuz i was bored, and then BAM knee replacement surgery where they lifted the guy's leg up and OUT POPS HIS FEMUR

night girder
#

You gotta give the smaller content creators a chance you know

tough owl
night girder
#

like online news India 1

#

I wonder if "online news India 2" is doing better

tough owl
#

i hope so

languid gulch
#

i'm predicting another week before they start suggesting those beheading videos that scarred us all 15 years ago

tough owl
#

i hope not

night girder
tough owl
#

oh yea you can

night girder
#

Haven't searched for it myself, some developer told me.

edgy hazel
tough owl
night girder
#

So, there has to be some media coverage first before YT takes action I guess

languid gulch
#

i think the algorithm or AI they're using can't tell the difference between nature doc stuff & what's basically cockfighting rings

night girder
#

Can it tell the difference between humans hugging and choking eachother?

#

Doubt YT uses AI though. Probably some underpayed employees who quit after a week 😂

languid gulch
#

no idea, & i'm certain google ain't about to reveal that

tough owl
#

unless they publish it to github too

night girder
#

Facebook had the same problem. The moderators kept on quiting because of mental health. All the shit they had to read daily, humans can only take so much.

languid gulch
#

that stuff & outright mis/disinformation needs to be caught, they just don't wanna pay people enough to do it

night girder
languid gulch
#

like this garbage

night girder
tough owl
night girder
#

Is it me, or is this science stuff getting out of hand? Half or maybe more seems fake?

#

If we cannot believe in science videos anymore... there is no hope.

languid gulch
#

it ain't science

tough owl
#

i just dont watch science stuff on youtube unless its like nilered

night girder
#

Yeah, but they act like it is 😒

night girder
tough owl
#

who

night girder
#

He has a YT channel. Pretty leggit.

#

startalk.

tough owl
#

meh dont really care for that sort of stuff

night girder
#

you don't care about space?

#

The actual thing you are living in hehe

tough owl
#

not space videos

night girder
#

Eh, I didn't. But then I did. It's really interesting.

languid gulch
#

i think he peaked with the cosmos reboot, i've had a hard time watching him lately

night girder
#

Veritasium is also leggit.

languid gulch
#

pbs eons, smarter every day, veritasium, crash course, those are my main science

tough owl
night girder
tough owl
#

I dont got time 😭

tough owl
#

need to watch online news india 1

languid gulch
#

i like the practical science channels that show process & product, not just speculation

night girder
mental oriole
languid gulch
#

curious droid is a good one too

night girder
#

Half of science is speculation untill proven wrong. Still interesting.

#

Like black matter.

languid gulch
tough owl
#

like mark rober type science

night girder
#

Oh like that, yeah I am also more of the practical type.

languid gulch
#

adam savage, mark rober, those guys

tough owl
languid gulch
#

slow mo guys

edgy hazel
#

nah styropro and all that shebang

languid gulch
#

i mean, mark's stuff is definitely clickbaity, but also he has hardware on mars, so he knows what he's talking about

tough owl
#

man does not need more car batteries

night girder
tough owl
#

that mark rober

languid gulch
#

yea

night girder
#

Very scientific 😂

edgy hazel
#

yeah but mark rober got so so so so so boring

tough owl
#

why i said "science"

tough owl
languid gulch
#

also i love the restoration channels that show how old things work as part of the process

edgy hazel
#

hey guys you wanna see a glitterbomb for the 300th time?

tough owl
languid gulch
#

oh definitely

#

hand tool rescue is amazing

night girder
#

It's tiny bit of science and practical and entertaining.

languid gulch
#

curious droid is great for aerospace history

#

i've noticed scott manley's been really leaning into more science than gaming stuff lately

edgy hazel
#

only science I watch the the science on how GME goes UP UP UP 🚀 🌑 💎

night girder
#

How did boeing space mission go?

tough owl
#

dont think it exploded

languid gulch
#

not amazing but it docked

night girder
languid gulch
#

went from 1 to 3 helium leaks

night girder
#

Wow...

#

So that's why they send old people up.

edgy hazel
#

should go the oceangate route tbh

languid gulch
#

boeing says they can have 4 more leaks before "it's a problem"

night girder
#

Barry Eugene Wilmore is 61

languid gulch
#

suni's 58

night girder
#

Jeez...

#

Then again. Training astronauts is expensive.

#

So better use them untill they die 😂

languid gulch
#

they got old because of how long it's taken boeing to get here

#

they're both great people tho

night girder
#

So to the left is 61? and the right is 58 👀

languid gulch
#

butch looks fantastic for 61

edgy hazel
#

easier to explain the death when they blow that whistle

languid gulch
#

butch also installed the forward docking adapter 10 years ago that they used yesterday, so he got to test his work

#

& she ran 2 marathons while on the ISS

night girder
#

Also this:

Starliner is carrying a crucial replacement pump that helps convert urine on the space station into drinkable water. The pump failed last week, and since then, urine has been stored in bags on the space station while the crew awaits the replacement pump

languid gulch
#

oh yea, they definitely are excited for that

night girder
#

How many bags do they have hehe

languid gulch
#

i hope they brought 2 replacements

edgy hazel
night girder
languid gulch
#

lol

#

on the COLBERT treadmill

#

that's a ton of "being active" on the station

night girder
#

Gives me fallout vibes ... without colbert head ofc.

languid gulch
#

with the head 🤣

night girder
#

Oh wait, it's real

languid gulch
#

😛

night girder
#

Man... all that money is being spend well I see 😄

languid gulch
#

i mean, it's 1 sticker

night girder
#

Ofc 😄 They are allowed to have fun.

languid gulch
#

gotta have a name anyway 🤣

#

was a write-in consolation prize

night girder
#

And that head is motivating AF 😄

languid gulch
#

i love it. it sure beats the boring industrial number stuff that usually goes along with nasa stuff

languid gulch
#

atm i'm more worried about the russian section hemorrhaging

night girder
#

Sabotage.

languid gulch
#

i think it's metal fatigue from age

#

some of that stuff sat for 10 years before being launched, then has been up there for 25 years

night girder
#

"The leaks are a sensitive subject. Because of Russian war efforts, the resources available to the country's civil space program will remain flat or even decrease in the coming years."

#

"They have repaired multiple leak locations, but additional leak locations remain," the NASA spokesperson said. "Roscosmos has yet to identify the cracks’ root cause, making it challenging to analyze or predict future crack formation and growth."

languid gulch
#

i mean, russia said they were planning on just shutting the hatch one day & detaching from the int'l section, so there's that

night girder
#

Fuck me. That's a rough situation. Political. Economical. And for the ISS and it's crew.

languid gulch
#

yup

#

i just hope it gets resolved before a blowout

night girder
#

I am happy to read that they keep cordial relationship with NASA.

#

Nothing good will come from letting earth problems become space problems. If you know what I mean 😊

languid gulch
#

russia has zvezda, which powers thrusters, & the int'l side makes most of the electricity

night girder
#

Oh ISS will be decomission in 2030 I read?

languid gulch
#

if it makes it that long

night girder
#

Yeah, hopefully they can learn from it.

#

What will they do with it? Would be cool if they can bring it back to earth for science.

languid gulch
#

nah, burn up

night girder
#

Ah, fuck.

languid gulch
#

plan's in place already

night girder
#

Then they could look at the damage and maybe learn from it.

languid gulch
#

ditch in the southern pacific where there's nobody to risk hitting

night girder
#

Kinda sad...

languid gulch
#

i think they're hoping that gateway will be up & running before they ditch it

night girder
#

Would be cooler if they could retrieve it.

languid gulch
#

way too big, sadly

night girder
#

It's the first space station afaik.

languid gulch
#

3rd

#

salyut, then Mir

night girder
#

Really? What happened to the first two?

languid gulch
#

burned up

#

oh also skylab

#

so 4th i guess

#

ISS is the 2nd modular station where it was assembled

#

skylab & salyut were put up in 1 launch

night girder
#

Oh right I remember hearing about the first generations, they had a big focus on military too.

languid gulch
#

skylab almost felt like cheating since they used a saturn V

#

Mir got retired in 1998 because it got moldy

night girder
#

Funny how they ditched the idea of militarising space. And now we have a Space Force hehe

night girder
languid gulch
#

not as bad, but yes

#

Mir had the mold mutating & eating cables

night girder
languid gulch
#

they also had a full on uncontrolled fire inside

#

plus on russia's first try with docking an automated resupply it missed & hit a solar panel

night girder
#

Apparantly there is also Tiangong-1 and 2 and current gen*.

languid gulch
#

yea the latest one is modular, first one was just a big capsule

night girder
#

This one is interesting too.

#

If we can pull it off.

languid gulch
#

that's supposed to be part of the lunar missions

night girder
#

Yeah... step by step 😄

languid gulch
#

i know they talked about reusing some sections of the ISS, but decided they were already too old

night girder
#

It's part of the Artemis program.

#

I don't see anything else planned though for NASA.

languid gulch
#

i hope we'll still get something big around earth after it's gone

#

i'll miss spotting it in the evenings

night girder
#

Went star gazing in the mountain in Tennerife a few weeks ago, but didn't spot the space station 😄

languid gulch
night girder
#

I mean, if we ever want to have anything sustainable up in space, scientist have a lot of problems to solve.

#

But maybe I watch too much sci-fi 😂

languid gulch
#

oh for sure, but it's been up there for 25 years, not bad

night girder
#

Either we need to find a way to repair it cheap in space.

#

Make it more sturdy.

#

Or find a way to get it down to earth safely for repairs.

#

That's what I like about spaceX.

#

reusable rockets is a good step forward.

languid gulch
#

or make big sections of it easily replaceable

night girder
#

Yeah, but that still sounds costly 😄

languid gulch
#

true, but cheaper than impossible 🤣

night girder
#

We only have limited resources.

#

We can't keep burning it up in space 😉

languid gulch
#

would be neat if we could deorbit stuff with a big fat heat shield, aim for the desert or a shallow lake, and retrieve stuff to recycle

night girder
#

or ocean with a float system.

languid gulch
#

or an orbital assembly station

#

strip it & recycle it in orbit

night girder
#

thing is, it's so costly to shoot stuff into space atm. I just read that it's already hard to get enough water to ISS, that's why they recycle piss.

languid gulch
#

yup, but also the cost keeps coming down

night girder
#

I think the next big step is, reusable. Everything we do atm in space, but with reuseability in mind.

languid gulch
#

oh 100%

night girder
#

Then we can expand further and further and solve problems 😄

#

Getting resources up into space is still a major issue.

languid gulch
#

that's why starship is so amazing, 100% reusable launch vehicle

#

falcon's nice, but that upper stage gets ditched no matter what

night girder
#

spaceX is doing cool stuff though. NASA is a bit more conventional 🙂

languid gulch
#

i'm still shocked that nobody besides a few small attempts by rocketlab has even tried to go for reusability

night girder
#

wdym, we just talked about spaceX no?

languid gulch
#

oh i mean in competition with spacex

#

their reuse is why the cost has been coming down

night girder
languid gulch
#

watching the shock waves coming off the booster yesterday was amazing

night girder
languid gulch
#

the memes about "sir, your grain silo is leaving" were great

night girder
#

Haha, fuck it 😄

#

It's expensive, it looks useless. But we gotta do this to advance.

#

Even from all the failures, they probably learned.

languid gulch
#

oh 100%

#

i'd be concerned if they had succeeded with everything on the first flight

#

would have no idea where the weak spots are

night girder
#

Or miscalculations.

#

And then it goes up into space, and they still discover they made mistakes or didn't think of things.

languid gulch
#

i can't imagine if the pad had survived the first few launches, but then failed when they started carrying cargo or people

night girder
#

Maybe they were so focused on the rocket, they overlooked the pad

languid gulch
#

oh we'll see some spectacular explosions when they start trying to land the booster

night girder
#

It makes a lot of sense, that pad is getting beaten

#

don't know who takes more punishment, the rockets or the pad 😂

languid gulch
#

seeing those car-sized chunks go flying on the first flight was kinda scary

night girder
#

Did they eventually go for water cooling the pad?

languid gulch
#

oh yea, & covered it all in steel

#

& made a big deflection spike

night girder
#

On Friday (April 21), Musk tweeted that SpaceX started building a "a massive water-cooled, steel plate to go under the launch mount" three months ago. The plate wasn't ready in time for the debut Starship launch, but SpaceX went ahead with it anyway, figuring that the orbital mount's underlying concrete — a special heat-resistant type called Fondag — could survive one liftoff.

#

"But sir, the pad isn't ready yet." - "Launch it anyway I say!" 😂

#

Sounds a lot like development features.

#

Or games getting released half baked. (Cyberpunk)

#

Still, might have been cheaper to postpone launch than damaging the pad.

languid gulch
#

just a bit

#

especially since the ship then bored a hole in the ground after ripping up the concrete

night girder
#

That's not a bit 😂

languid gulch
#

yea that was all concrete at one point

#

😛

night girder
#

That force though ... 👀

#

Too bad all that energy is wasted.

#

Would be cool if we could do something with it.

languid gulch
#

i mean, it's not wasted

night girder
#

I mean it's not wasted wasted.

languid gulch
#

gotta lift it somehow

night girder
#

If it launched the rocket, that's energy well spent.

languid gulch
#

yea true

night girder
#

But what about the heat? We just cool it.

#

If we could reuse the heat for something usefull 🙂

languid gulch
#

74kN thrust on liftoff

#

more than double the saturn V

#

kinda amazed anything can tolerate that

#

i can't wait to see it liftoff with some big cargo, see that thing crawl at the start

night girder
#

What was the plan again?

#

Mars?

languid gulch
#

supposedly

#

moon, mars, & asteroid belt iirc

night girder
#

Didn't they need a moonbase first?

#

Or something in orbit of the moon?

languid gulch
#

the first starships will just carry starlink

#

next will have longer cargo bays for big stuff

#

then human rating

night girder
#

The plan:

languid gulch
#

lol it ain't going to mars in 2027

#

i don't see it going to the moon till at least then

night girder
#

Ambition 😄

languid gulch
#

my guess is we'll see the NERVA revival go there before starship

night girder
#

That 05 is ... questionable.

#

and that's straight from spaceX website.

languid gulch
#

it's why they chose methane, easy to produce & store on mars

night girder
#

But... there are so many unknown factors.

languid gulch
#

yup

night girder
#

You can't just land and get it you know.

languid gulch
#

i had an idea for the first starship missions

night girder
#

Scouts?

#

or worker "robots".

languid gulch
#

just fill them full of inert stuff that's tough to get on mars, & maybe land them intentionally, but probably just slam them into the ground. either way you get your base materials to work with

#

no fancy buildings or organic stuff that'll get fried when exposed to mars, just stuff like ingots of steel and copper

night girder
#

scattered all over the place 👍

languid gulch
#

why not? at least it'll be there & relatively pure

night girder
#

you still need, like I said, things that can collect. Like more mars robots.

languid gulch
#

oh 100%

night girder
#

and with different capabilities than the ones we have now.

languid gulch
#

but this'd mostly bypass the need to extract & refine mars soil, or scout for locations of specific materials

night girder
#

True.

#

getting a good foothold is important.

#

Else it will fail.

languid gulch
#

just aim for an area where we're gonna land people anyway, that way it's not too far to travel

#

also maybe the first deployment should be enough fuel to enter orbit & set up a big fat communication satellite network

night girder
#

Elon is talking about blowing up polars to teraform mars. I think he's tripping and thinking WAY too far a head.

languid gulch
#

first trips should be to verify there's no life, then if that's the case send in geologists to find the resource locations

night girder
languid gulch
#

i prefer the kurzgesagt method of using lasers to melt everything

night girder
#

Or maybe dont?

#

baby steps.

#

ngl, I like kurzgesagt though 😄

languid gulch
#

i love the skyhook concept

night girder
#

So. Space elevators. Are they are thing that we should talk about?

Videos like that are pretty dope.

night girder
#

It's entertaining, but sometimes a bit too much "What if ..." not really bases on facts. Can't find the right words. Abstract?

languid gulch
#

i'd also love to see a blimp on venus that we live inside at 1atm normal pressure

night girder
languid gulch
#

oh yea 🤣 that was not too far from me

night girder
#

That's another thing we have to fix 😄

night girder
languid gulch
#

i think we'll need to send a lot of people to keep everyone sane. variety of interaction is critical

languid gulch
#

🤣

night girder
#

If they have internet, everything will be fine 😄

#

If I get send to the other side of the universe, and I have my PC and my internet. I would be a happy man 😂

languid gulch
#

that should be one of the starship deliveries to mars orbit. satellite with a gigantic internet archive server so they don't have to have a super slow connection back to earth

charred pewter
#

pew pew pew

night girder
languid gulch
#

🤣

night girder
#

"Yo Elon, all you need for humans to be chill on mars is internet."

charred pewter
#

Mars can just have X, ban facebook!

night girder
#

Imagine, a bunch of people on mars, just checking Youtube, Netflix, Facebook, Tik-Tok....

charred pewter
#

isnt that what "Stars on Mars" was

languid gulch
#

with a local server they could set up their own apps

night girder
#

I am kinda surprised I never heard of any social issues on ISS.

#

Probably because they are trained and professional.

charred pewter
#

because astronauts arnt stupid people ?

night girder
#

Still, can't always be easy living so close together.

languid gulch
#

also they know that if there's a genuine problem they're 4 hours from home

night girder
#

Including me. Don't send me up to space 😂

charred pewter
#

takes a certain kind of mental mindset, and they screen for that

#

OMG THEY ARE PROFILING

night girder
#

Not only that, the right social habbits etc.

#

"Does't snore" 😂

#

"Does't stink" 😄

languid gulch
#

i do know they have duct tape & sedatives for.....um......"problems"

night girder
#

In February of this year, the latest batch of pioneers, a crew of four, made the journey up the mountain. They settled in for an eight-month stay. Four days later, one of them was taken away on a stretcher and hospitalized.

#

Hahahaha, 4 days 😂

languid gulch
#

at least they're learning how to work with the psychology before just sending people

charred pewter
#

they have a velcro wall and the backs of their suits is all felt ... when one misbehaves they throw them against the wall

languid gulch
night girder
#

Sorry, you both are 🇺🇸, I shouldn't laugh at your space force.

languid gulch
#

nah, i find it dumb too

night girder
#

in my defense, there is literal a Netflix show mocking it though 😂

languid gulch
#

if it was under the air force, it'd make sense

charred pewter
#

Sparce Farce

night girder
#

Yeah... but even the camouflage makes no sense

charred pewter
#

in space, they never see you coming

night girder
#

Find a forest and hide in it? And if you are not going into space, then what's the purpose?

#

Or is it like a multi functional branch? Trained for earth and beyond?

languid gulch
#

i think part of it is that they're embedded in other branches

#

would make comrades a nice big target if 12 are in camo & one's in a full on apollo suit

charred pewter
#

its for all those earthlike planets they hope to invade... er ... explore ...

night girder
#

Do they even have a spacecraft that is viable for space?

#

The Space Force is the smallest U.S. armed service, consisting of 8,600 military personnel.[1] It operates** 77 spacecraft**....

languid gulch
#

yea, like i said, makes no sense, at least for now. i can see it being a thing in 20 years, but not now

night girder
#

You even got "Spacepower: Doctrine for Space Forces" ... this sounds ... weird 😂

#

Spacepower... really?

charred pewter
#

our space force aircraft utilize anti-gravity drives and thus can get into space and back with very little effort and fuss... also very stealthy as no plumes of white exhaust

night girder
#

We can't even keep ISS up for more than 25 years and that takes cooperation of MULTIPLE countries. Hell, even Russia!

#

Honestly, I think it's **WAY ** too soon for this ...

charred pewter
#

yeah, i need to be drunk

night girder
#

I can see it become necessary in the very very distant future.

#

When multiple countries start to colonize different planets or something.

#

Mainly to secure resources.

charred pewter
#

eh, if humanity gets to that point, pretty sure its gonna crash n burn before that

night girder
languid gulch
#

i don't like it as a concept because it's blatantly militarizing space

charred pewter
#

i can see it all crashing down in my lifetime, OR getting past certain advancements in spacecraft which allows us to explode into the galaxy

night girder
languid gulch
#

yea, one of those "we really should know better by now" things

night girder
#

So, just based on looking at history, I think there is a high chance of happening again in the future?

charred pewter
#

once humanity stops killing itself and realizes its all the same race ... what we need is an alien invasion to band us together .... HELLDIVERS FOR DEMOCRACY!

night girder
#

That's why I respect and like history a lot, you can sometimes predict the future with it.

#

It's just chance based (math). It's a pattern.

charred pewter
#

you should watch the show "Foundation"

night girder
charred pewter
#

its entirely about that

night girder
#

and EVEN THEN, it's not a guarantee.

languid gulch
#

i'd rather skip that BS & go to a united jump to the solar system

charred pewter
#

if we can terraform mars to liveable, that would really push boundries

tough owl
#

thanks again yt

charred pewter
#

Yahti Elongi ?

night girder
#

I didn't watch Foundation, I watched The Expanse 😄

night girder
charred pewter
#

the expanse is crap compared to Foundation 😉

languid gulch
#

asteroid mining in the belt, setting up waystations on the Moon, Phobos, & Deimos

night girder
#

I was kinda pissed they didn't finish it 😒

charred pewter
#

because the expanse completely dropped the ball on what made it interesting to begin with ... the alien shit angle!

night girder
#

Jeff Bezos bought it up for another season because he liked it too 😄

languid gulch
#

maybe some big fat stations at 120/240 degrees in front of earth for

#

monitoring the solar system

night girder
#

In the last book, they even make a big jump into the future. It was too expensive for the show to pull this off, so they ditched it. That's what a friend told me.

was neat to see them get good info out of it

night girder

It's small, it's doable, it involves science and a bit of luck 😄

#

I think it's the most viable idea against astroids at this point.

#

Better than "giant laser" or "mega shield around the earth".

languid gulch
#

i mean, i still want both of those too

night girder
#

Or even nukes!

languid gulch
#

not that tho

night girder

Because if you blow it up, the debris would collect again and still hit us.

#

So nuking it would be pretty bad.

languid gulch
#

and now you have multiple chunks to deal with

night girder
#

Yeah, and they pull together too.

#

Since they have mass, they have gravity.

#

So just changing the orbit seems the wisest option.

#

And the other problem is: detecting the course of astroids.

languid gulch
#

sentinel would help with that

night girder

and we already had astroids hit us

I wonder what the diameter has to be for an astroid to not burn up.

languid gulch

i suspect speed is also a factor

night girder
#

However, as a general guideline, asteroids smaller than about 25 meters in diameter typically burn up completely in the atmosphere and pose little threat to the Earth's surface. Larger asteroids can survive entry and cause damage upon impact.

night girder
#

various factors such as the asteroid's composition, speed, angle of entry, and atmospheric conditions.

languid gulch

if it's a "mostly impact, but some stuff missed" kind of impact, it could happen

night girder

But, that would have to leave a MASSIVE crater no?

languid gulch

A new NASA and Durham University simulation puts forth a different theory of the Moon’s origin – the Moon may have formed in a matter of hours, when material from the Earth and a Mars sized-body were launched directly into orbit after the impact. languid gulch

i think it's currently the best explanation, but yea

night girder

Oh, it happened when earth was in fluid form?

languid gulch

or just starting to cool off, but that kind of impact would 100% remelt it

night girder
#

Ah, yeah that makes more sense.

languid gulch
#

and at that size & speed, everything's a fluid

night girder
#

And then it wouldn't leave a crater.

#

Because in massive form, I cannot see it happen tbh.

#

It would just obliterate earth.

#

Stuff like this picture.

#

nah, don't belive that. In liquid form or cooling down. Maybe.

#

Just so crazy to know what earth has been through to get to this point.

#

billion of years, my mind cannot comprehend it.

humans are nothing considering planets are billions year old. And we think getting 100 year old is an accomplishment 😄

Anyway, bed time. 👋 🛏️ 😴

maiden coyote

As the objects collide the projectile becomes plasma and turns the area around the impact area into plasma too

twin dew
#

With documenting in mind, iron from such hits was very sough after for long time.

#

And ISS was supposed to be retired long time ago with replacement.
But as the funding for the replacement never materialized, it has been kept going for way over the design-life.
Causing all sorts of issues over time.

maiden coyote
#

A piece of plastic did that

twin dew
#

At orbital speeds, it doesn't matter what the impactor is made of.

#

That was ground side test to see the effects.

maiden coyote
#

I watched a show called cosmos with Neil degass Tyson. Pretty good watch if you can find it. The only evidence of meteorite strikes is called shock diamonds. They're formed from carbon containing materials during a high energy impact. Like a meteorite... or a nuclear bomb

#

Yeah, at those speeds everything behaves as a fluid.

#

Planet sized rock hitting another planet sized rock at orbital speeds, they're fluids, not rocks.. its like two drops of water combine to become a bigger drop

twin dew
#

For the smaller stuff, mostly instant plasma.

#

IIRC

maiden coyote
#

And the whole thing becomes a molten hot mass of liquid rock.

twin dew
#

No, seems I was wrong, not enough time for even that.

maiden coyote
#

I would think there would be a cloud of plasma during impact. At least with the atmospheric gases

#

I think cosmos touched on the formation of our rock based off of what we know.

night girder
#

I don't think that's the reason.

twin dew
#

That in area with most humans, the features that contained already refined ores are not there for some reason?
When the spread should be pretty uniform.

#

For long time the best iron you could get came from the asteroid impact craters.

#

Or from iron nodules in swamps etc.

twin dew
#

Also any other terrain modifications and building that would make the contours from the impact after weathering less distinct.

soft bloom
twin dew
#

Lot of ways to determine spot was impact site without the crater.
But no-one is going to test everywhere.
So if the major features have been modified or obstructed before last few tens of years with LIDAR sats, good luck finding the site if it wasn't known before.

#

And when most of that missing area has been heavily habitated during middle ages and later, with large scale agriculture everywhere etc.

twin dew

Whops, sorry, forgot to remove the ping.

night girder

It's has to do with the angle of our earth, the atmosphere and the shifting of tectonic plates.

alright my tech friends - in a pickle so can use some advice. my current PC is having some stability problems. whea logger processor core error for fatal hardware error has occurred. happening every other day or so at random times - sometimes its overnight so when i wake up its on login screen etc. specs are 5950x 3090, 128gb ddr4 2666. when it first happened, i put all OC settings back to stock, and the issue is still present. did some reading and its anything from CPU, PSU, GPU etc. doesnt really make sense to just replace one of them and 'hope' it fixes it. so I think im going to just do a new build.

The pickle is do I try and deal with it for a few months and wait for the new zen 5 chips and stay on team red, or do I bite the bullet and go to microcenter today and move to team blue. i want a quiet PC - currently its in another room with an active DP cable / usb line through through the wall. if I can get it quiet enough, ill bring it back into my office.

That PC should only be able to detect CPU internal errors, or PCIe bus errors.

First one is probably IF error, second is CPU cache error.

That APIC ID tells which CPU core.

Not 1:1 mapping to the Windows cores.

There is hole in the range that isn't used on AMD CPUs.

yep

tough owl

☹️

#

amd why did you do this

twin dew

Lowering max RAM clocks with more sticks and more ranks has always been a thing?

That 3200/3200/2933/2666 is pretty benign one.

orchid verge
#

its also a day 1 5950x pc so nov 2020 age

I thought amd by then on the 5950x had a more robust mem controller

twin dew
#

No, 3000 and 5000 series use the exact same IOD.

#

Only the CCDs got changed.

tough owl
#

if you had 2x64 would you be able to run them at 3200?

twin dew
#

The CPU IMC spec would be that 3200 for 1x 1R or 2R per channel.

#

But 64GB DDR4 sticks don't exist AFAIK.

#

Or might exist now, but didn't for long.

orchid verge
#

its 4 32s atm

twin dew
#

Registered.

#

Doesn't work with AM4.

tough owl
#

yea but they exist

twin dew
#

RDIMM, not UDIMM.

#

RDIMMs can be 4-rank per DIMM.

#

And that one is.

tough owl
#

whats the max size for ddr5 again for normal desktop use?

twin dew
#

So with same chips that max at 32GB 2R stick on UDIMM, 4R UDIMM can do 64GB.

twin dew
tough owl
#

4800?

twin dew
#

3600MT/s official for AMD, compared to 4800MT/s for single DIMM per channel.

tough owl
#

and loosy goosey timings?

twin dew
#

3600MT/s @ JEDEC.

tough owl
#

at ddr5 speeds?

#

thats awful

twin dew
#

And the official for 1-dimm per channel is that 4800MT/s @ JEDEC.

#

Intel has that same speed as the max for 13th and 14th gen with 2 DIMMs per channel.

#

Intel just hides the details into specific document.
The speed on the ARK is for 1DPC on 2 slot MB.
4-slot MB drops the max.

#

So the official specs for Intel 13th and 14th gen CPUs on 4-slot MBs are same or lower as the AMD official specs.

#

But Intel just markets that 2-slot MB number.

twin dew
#

Without BSOD or notification to Windows.
Can change in AGESA options.

orchid verge
#

i think im going to go for a new build and then use the existing one and convert it to a home server - that way i dont have to worry too much about it if it keeps having stability issues. so for a new build, should I move to AM5 or switch back to intel?

pure karma
#

if you want it quiet AMD

tough owl
#

💀

twin dew
#

The core could probably be stabilized by giving positive curve optimizer.
Or even just with updating the MB BIOS to latest version.

IF might need lowering it to the stock, as the MB might be automatically overclocking it.

tough owl
twin dew
tough owl
#

oh yea amd had an aneurism when it came to naming this year

twin dew
#

But Zen5 is soon here.
Intel is also new CPU generation coming for desktop too.

orchid verge
#

so thats the rub - if i move to AM5, i should wait till the 9000 comes. then there is the wait of assuming i can actually get one on release.

#

or i go intel and go for the 14900

tough owl
#

I dont think you should have issues shooting for a 9950x or 9900x

orchid verge
#

well the issue is more i run the risk of this machine continuing its issue when i need it for work lol

twin dew
#

Like I said, try giving it +5 or +10 curve optimizer.
And check the current IF/FCLK frequency.

pure karma
#

well if one warning was cpu cach and the other was a cpu core is it safe to bet a CPU replacement would do the job or are there too many factor at play there

twin dew
#

And that one is marked as CPU Core too, so might be again core internal, not the IF.

pure karma
#

out of curiosity can you still wipe a drive in command prompt if it has a OS on it?

twin dew
#

Usually at least partly, until the OS possibly crashes.

pure karma
#

no but i mean if i run off a difrent os drive and try and clear a other os drive will the os drive im not running off of actively clear properly or will it just not clear

twin dew
#

Yes?
Because at that point it is just another partition that isn't in use.

#

Or whole drive.
Only possible problem point is if the ESP/EFI partition is only on that drive.
And the OS installation for the other OS didn't create one on the drive it is.

pure karma
twin dew
#

And even then the problem is just if you also clear the EFI partition or remove the whole drive.

#

Not if you delete or clear the OS partition.

#

If the new OS isn't installed yet, having the old drive not connected or otherwise disabled at HW/BIOS level will prevent the new OS from using the old EFI partition.

#

So the errors get fixed, but aren't reported.

This is purely for RAM.
For the same CPU core inside ECC errors in cache etc. the reporting has worked on AM5.

#

But no IF and RAM ECC error reporting, just silent correction and reboot on uncorrected error.

And even lower levels might be, just in so small numbers it isn't making news.
Because the reason isn't the power, but MB makers undervolting the CPUs with AC loadline being too low.

Just that that kind of bad tune makes the undervolting worse the more amperage there is going on.

#

So the highest power and highest voltage CPUs are hit hardest.

twin dew
# charred pewter that what they used to call 'vdroop' ?

Plays into it.
Those AC and DC loadline values in mOhms are supposed to be what the actual resistance of the traces and socket is between the VRM output and the CPU.
In all the MBs, the DC one was correct, but the AC one was often 1/2 to 1/3 of the DC one.

Then there is the vdroop behavior on top.

#

The vdroop is intentional, that too low AC loadline was extra undervolting.

charred pewter
#

oof

small slate
#

I'm actually fairly please with the upgrade Gigabyte Control Centre... The RGB controlls are very intuitive and seem pretty solid. I have been able to control everthing off my motherboard and my razor products sync with aorus seemlessly

twin dew
#

Because if the DC was wrong, the power measurements didn't work right.
With AC being too low the CPU got undervolted depending on power usage.

#

Which made performance better and CPU run cooler, but caused large percentage to be unstable in specific loads.

#

Also lot of other shenanigans to make the CPUs work somewhat with the fucked up settings, like disabling safety features etc.

#

Like one that detects undervoltage situations and throttles the CPU for that duration to keep it stable.

charred pewter
#

sounds like a nice clusterfuck

twin dew
#

Both ASUS and Gigabyte were at least disabling that one.

#

Because the AC loadline shenanigans were causing it to trigger constantly and the performance was crap because of that.

charred pewter
#

🤔

sharp oasis
#

I had a discussion with someone and they brought up that turbine engines for have good response. Yet it's used in the Abrams and responds well to throttle.

#

I proposed the idea of a turbine hybrid electric to combine the effeicnecy and flexibility of turbine engines and a hybrid car.

twin dew
#

Nope?
Turbines don't work at all below about 60% max.
And are very slow to react below 80% or so.

sharp oasis
#

Ahh

twin dew
#

They just give lot of power for the size.

sharp oasis
#

So it's constantly alot of power

twin dew
#

Abrams just guzzles gas when even just idle compared to any other tank.

sharp oasis
#

So using the turbine as a generator is better then mechanical drive

twin dew
#

When it just needs to power the electrical systems.

#

Yes.

sharp oasis
#

So hybrid electric would be better for a turbine engine

#

Tho how bad would it be

#

As it would be a relatively small turbine

twin dew
#

And lets just say that turbines are maintenance nightmare longterm.
The turbine blades erode, both before and after the combustion chamber.

sharp oasis
#

Yeee

#

They breakdown less but need to be maintained more

#

And I'm assuming there's no way to stop the blade erosion

twin dew
#

There is a reason why no-one else uses one for military vehicle besides Abrams.
Which was made in time that you couldn't get diesel engine that fullfilled the power requirements.

#

Now you can get diesel that would fit into the same space and would generate the same power.

sharp oasis
#

Or more power

twin dew
#

And with the amount of air flowing through, any filter needs to be absolutely huge.

sharp oasis
#

Yeee

#

So not viable sadly

twin dew
#

Not worth it over just simple generator type internal combustion engine for range extender.

sharp oasis
#

Iirc the only reason they keep turbines in Abrams is sound

twin dew
#

Turbines have their places, but consumer ground vehicles really isn't it.

sharp oasis
#

Something something turbine produces higher pitched sound that dissipates faster

#

Making the Abrams a bit harder to be heard from a distance

#

VS conventional diesel

#

To what effect

#

I do not know

twin dew
#

And just inertia.
Replacing all the engine packs would cost shit-ton for not that much benefit.

sharp oasis
#

That too

twin dew
#

When the system has been already built to deal with the turbine-specific issues.

#

And now there is APU diesel generator available for "just for electrics" part.

#

Not universally installed in the fleet.

sharp oasis
#

I do suppose biodiesel might take off for like more industrial applications.

#

Iirc it's still more expensive and needs an engine tune to work with out issue

#

I kinda could see turbines powering like a bull doser or train but conventional diesel does that rn and well

twin dew
#

And you don't really have to care about the extra size or weight in those.

#

Warships often have both.
Turbines for high speeds, conventional for APU and very slow speeds.

Aircraft "have" to use turbines for the weight reasons except very small planes and helicopters.

sharp oasis
#

How long would it probably be able to run before needing servicing

#

Few thousand hours at least?

twin dew
#

Aircraft turbine overhaul time is usually between 5000-30000 hours IIRC.
But much of that is spent high, so not lot of dust etc. causing erosion, just air itself.

sharp oasis
#

I mean train could probably could equip a filter

#

But it would have to be huge

twin dew
#

And remember that car turbos are simple turbines, just without their own combustion chamber.
Using the main engine as that.

#

AFAIK you still need to expect turbo failures after 150k km or so.

sharp oasis
#

Yeah

twin dew
#

Mostly from the bearings AFAIK.
The erosion just lowers the efficiency to certain point.
And the single-stage centrifugal impellers are less affected by that, as the geometry isn't as important and there is more material.

#

And the hot (exhaust) side is much cooler.

dire igloo
twin dew
#

Or the Windows 11 now included support?

dire igloo
#

Still don't know how or even if that one works

twin dew
#

The base setting options with API for external apps to control.

#

And from the name, it is mostly intended for peripherial lights, not case and MB lights.

#

The "HID LampArray" name I mean.

twin dew
#

And that even the idle is loud.

#

Because the airflow etc. are directly related to the RPM.

#

Just that at low power, high RPM you inject less fuel and get less temperature rise.

tribal kraken
#

One advantege of turbine engines are that they can run wide variety of fuels with minimal modification

twin dew
#

Needs to be lubricating enough (or add extra lubricating agent) and need to tune the fuel controller to know right ratio.

languid gulch
#

true, but a lot of that is mainly efficiency. so long as you keep it above ignition but below stoich, it'll run

slate beacon
#

Hey there, does anyone know the performance difference between 5600G and 5700X3D on satisfactory on relatively large factory?

#

planned to buy one and run it with RX6600XT

#

it that good?

#

I don't really play other games, too busy with school

#

Also on limited budget

twin dew
#

Very big.
As the 5600G only has 16MB of cache and not even the "normal" 32MB, and Satisfactory just loves cache.
To level that 5800X3D gets 75-100% more performance than 5600X IIRC.

jagged snow
#

That sounds right to me

twin dew
#

So even larger difference between the cache-starved APU chip.

slate beacon
#

jeez, that big

#

thank you

#

been searching for an answer for days now

charred pewter
#

shouldve asked AI, it would have been half right

sage pier
#

Does anyone know how to setup sar? Or synchronous audio router?

slate beacon
charred pewter
#

LOL

#

i stand corrected 😉

twin dew
#

The third paragraph is complete shit, as the "AI" doesn't know what Satisfactory is.

slate beacon
#

Exactly.

twin dew
#

Just that the most common answer when asked about CPU for any game is "doesn't really matter".

slate beacon
#

Why is it like that tho? Doesn't it scrape the internet for information?

twin dew
#

No.

#

Machine Model is fed lot of data (scraped from internet), and then it distilles it to most common word paths.

#

For "AI" like ChatGPT.

#

And after the distilling is done, the original full information isn't used anymore.

slate beacon
#

That's useless then... I need those information

twin dew
#

They don't know anything, just what words most commonly follow what in somewhat context sensitive way.

#

Language models, not information or like.

#

And anything newer than the moment the training data was collected doesn't exist etc.

slate beacon
#

I see how it useful for some but not for me I guess?

twin dew
#

Current AI is mostly hype still.
And dangerous if someone trusts the output as is.

slate beacon
#

Can't argue with that

#

Sure, some result are good but generally you should just avoid it entirely, for now at least

maiden coyote
#

I feel half smart.. I got my samba share reachable on the "internet" but it's read only.

#

I figured it would be.. I kind of stumbled when trying to set permissions to the directory... and apparently I screwed up the users too, because it's read access to the whole drive from a single user. they're supposed to be seperate. well.. crap

dire igloo

What people thought the dangers of AI would be:
It becoming sentient and starting a war against humanity

What the dangers of AI actually are:
Half-assed unripe information that's blindly taken for granted

charred pewter
#

"Half-assed unripe information that's blindly taken for granted" ... "which results in wars and the downfall of humanity" 😄

#

either way ... same result lol

what are you doing

visual tree
#

Copying an image but discord is being weird...

#

Ok, image posting is definitely broken on discord android

charred pewter
#

geezus ... the gif picker is stupid when trying in 'broken image'

#

wish it had filters like "no romantic bullshit, when do i ever post romantic bullshit"

#

and what the fuck does any of those have to do with "broken image" ...

#

THANK you google:

visual tree
#

Guess that explains my problem

charred pewter
#

least its not as bad as pasting images in Slack

#

literally the way it makes previews of MOST pasted images:

#

heres another fine example

#

so hard to discuss things at work when we cant even copy/paste random things to each other about what we are discussing LOL

visual tree
#

We use ms teams at work to chit chat with other coworkers like we are using whatsapp

#

Hope we are not being monitored 😅

edgy hazel
#

I hope you have no UK people

#

we had to pull all messages from teams mentioning an ex-employee by name or nicknames or anything relating to them to hand over to their lawyer

visual tree
#

We don't talk about sensitive stuff through MS teams though. If we are going to comment for example about some employee's bad behaviour, we talk about it in private

edgy hazel
#

yeah you better because exactly that stuff gets pulled

visual tree
#

Good thing we have quiet rooms on each floor so we can have private conversations on phone without someone eavesdropping

charred pewter
#

if you pay slack more, you can see what all people are saying about you behind your back

#

when the prior boss owned the slack server we used, we had to hold our tongues in chat

visual tree
#

Glassdoor recently somehow revealed identities of anonymous posters who talked good or bad about some company

#

Apparently, the real names are for "internal use" but you never know what Glassdoor might do with that information....

charred pewter
#

its like trying to find information on a person who gives you a 1-star review on trustpilot

#

you can 'request full information, or your review will be taken down' LOL

#

its a good way to swat trolls

visual tree
#

My former employer marked every bad review on google as "conflict of interest" in order to get it removed lol

charred pewter
#

haha ... we flagged some as "not genuine experience"

visual tree
#

What's funny is that according to Google terms, current or past employees are not allowed to post a review even if it's good. Wonder why he didn't report his coworker then....

charred pewter
#

hahahaha .... sposed to use a vpn and make fake accounts!

#

we get like five people a week asking if we want to buy their review bot services to pad our reviews like 'your comptetitors, such-n-such-list' ... its funny

#
  1. We dont buy reviews, 2) We dont share customer information to get reviews
#

when trust-pilot switched to a 'you have to dump your customer information in order to use our widgets' ... we basically gave up on that

#

if we cant use a basic widget which people can click to leave a review OF THEIR OWN ACCORD ... then we aint interested in you

visual tree
#

Here, there is a well-known company which offers other companies a good credit score if they pay around €300

#

If you refuse their service, they will give your company bad credit score lol

charred pewter
#

lol

#

we make you look good, or not

visual tree
#

And to make things even worse, it's one of the most popular websites here where people check for company credit rating....

charred pewter
#

sheesh

#

its ... yeah ... thats crazy. 'pay us not to smear your good name, kthxbai'

visual tree
#

My local gas utility company might go bankrupt soon but they proudly wear a badge on their website they got by paying that company I mentioned

#

The badge says they have highest credit score even though everyone knows they have financial isssues lol

charred pewter
#

lol

#

its about how i regard thse stores that plaster the giant TrustPilot score on their header .... like .. to me it reads: "We have 100,000 positive reviews! (that we paid for and swindled, and shared all our customer information to them to get)"

#

if you leave it up to customers... all you end up with is all the negative reviews because people who are happy rarely go out of their way to say so... but someone who was wronged will definitely say so to others

#

so you have to wonder about someone who has so many glowing positive reviews lol

coarse dragon
#

5 Stars, sus, 4.9, sus, 4-4.8 Eh, maybe, anything above 4 stars with less than 5k reviews, sus.
That's my hierarchy

charred pewter
#

heh, we fall in the 'above 4 stars with less than 5k reviews'

#

it takes forever for reviews to trickle in

#

unless you are a suck company who just piss people off left and right

coarse dragon
charred pewter
#

ah, i get annoyed with the 'product swap' bs ...

#

oh has 14,000 reviews! i look and people are talking about something else entirely wtf

coarse dragon
#

"Look at this cheap high capacity SSD- Wait why tf are half the reviews talking about clothes"

charred pewter
#

i do a hard pass on those products

coarse dragon
#

^

charred pewter
#

yeah, exactly 😄 cause the moment theres 2 reviews about something else, then you cant trust ANY reviews in the pool or the score...

coarse dragon
#

I'm convinced the best way to avoid scams is to learn about them, then let pattern seeking genes do the rest.
Scammers have a funny habit of being unoriginal and following a nearly copy paste script to get you

charred pewter
#

"if it works, why change"

#

"who falls for this shit?! .... apparently enough because the scams keep existing!"

coarse dragon
#

How any scam lasts more than 12 months is beyond me, at least in communities not filled with the elderly or 100% stupid

charred pewter
#

isnt the trapped prince scam still going around?? LOL

coarse dragon
#

I honestly can never tell if that one is a joke or a real scam anymore
Seems like half the time it's used as a metaphor for scams and the other half is real

charred pewter
#

exactly

Speaking of 5G, didn't know my city is covered with mid-band 5G network

I thought everyone offered "fake" 5G over low-band

#

Although "mid-band" can be considered fake band too and true 5G is high-band only imo

pure karma

yea i was gonna say even 2 in 3 months isent teribble

its not great but if they are short downtimes then its kinda just whatever

Buh I thought the more ram frequency would at least max our the flck bandwith

Not actually use less bandwith

#

3933mhz is at 58.7gb/s VS 4333 at 49.1gb/s
