idea is that i take DF i downloaded and ensure its in desired format:
take timestamps from it, take event IDs, and only then everything else.
thing about timestamps is that they need to be there, they need to be in correct dtype, and later will use it for sorting.
thing about event IDs is that they need to be there, they need to be integers, and unique.

so that's why these two where inserted in a more manual fashion, instead of iterating over desired column list.
and, now that is changed order, it seems to be working...
Strange. Better add a comment about ordering of columns if it's really that important. I'm guessing one column eating into data for another column somehow, assuming the dataframe has a fixed size.
and what's even weirder:
- it only occured on this larger dataset
- type enforcing operations that i slapped here earlier didn't help (or they did only temporarily)
- they ^ didn't raise any error when failed to change type
- actual erorr that i was seeing was because data convertion to float introduced NaN values, which where problematic
- i waguely recall trying to debug it earlier and spotting shift in the order of that float column (compared to int)... just by 1 row forward.
seems like some edge condition. have a thing for them. just like that bug in python 3.6.1 when asyncio was just a fresh addition
thankfully its not.
airc pandas is not doing any "magic" with DataFrames, just builds on top of numpy's clever usage of C
ok, maybe it does. in a way
i recall pandas making changes in the way it manages memory. maybe, just maybe, i hit some sort of limit with my data which makes it screw with data
which is definitely not a hard limit. some softer kind
cause i know it can grow much much larger
For sure. I'm just speculating here. Best of luck though.
"clever" π
welp, it will be majestic when instead of C it will use Rust
I'm disappointed he didn't get life in prison: (only 25 years) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_QyEzvTSwg
Sam Bankman-Fried - also known as SBF - has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for stealing billions of dollars from customers of his cryptocurrency exchange FTX.
The former billionaire CEO faces decades in prison for fraud and conspiracy charges stemming from his role in the collapse of FTX.
Prosecutors say Bankman-Fried took more than $10b...
isent a life sentence 25 years tho?
Depends on the country.
well yea thats not surprising
He is probably going to get released earlier for "good behaviour"
but if it happened in the US or something yea 25 year max per crime
or something around that
Not sure if showing no remorse for crimes counts as "good behavior" lol
life=till ya dead in america
no its like 60 years I'm pretty sure
So technically survivable
after some experimenting nvenc does not work properly with nvidia-open drivers on linux
Up to the judge
1st degree murder is typically 80 or 90 years
Oh nvm then
Yeah, was thinking the same. But probably for my country π
will it mine?
pretty much have narrowed it down to the jack has no power delivery which makes sense because its spotless
you know now that i look at this board under a light it might just be long term corrosion from just simply being in humid areas
it has weird white circles and lines of some sort of white dust
i c
i heard rust doesn't allow poor code
It's still possible to write poor rust code. Just harder.
i might just be dumb but like would this be light corrosion by chance
That's bad.
so it is indeed corosion?
Looks like it.
because its a little bit everywhere
and if these are water detectors or something than that probably answers it
because there is only 1 of like 20 thats still white
It depends if the circuit lines are damaged or not, but hard to see. But it deffo looks damaged.
well the broken/not working headphone jack that i wanted to check out is here right next to the "light corrosion" but the big circle is right next to the CPU which is probably only worst
looks like a test point. like a debug port
but other picture does look like water damage.
Test/ ground point.
sure :p I've accessed uart through points like those. some are ground. they've got all kinds of purposes.
its interesting that this thing would have water damage because it has passive cooling and has nerver been in direct contact whit any liquids so it has to just have been long therm humidity
No denying there π
it's a laptop. if it's humid and you carry it from the cold inside to the warm outside it'll sweat.
best thing to do in that case is keep it in a case inside a bag so it warms up slowly.
its been in a bag and nerver been outside for 6 years
well, you got it wet some how
this is really making me want to check the alienware because that could explain uh this shitfest from sitting in the humid basement for 3 months unpowered
well it looks like its been like that for atleast 10 months but its defedently getting a lot worse very fast
you can see a start to a circle even 10 months ago
corrosion with a 3mm drill bit π€£
I can't see shit
So. I know cooler size mean nothing really nowadays. But the 6700XT I am buying is as big as a 3090s cooler from the same linup
think the best thing i ever saw was pulling a old & very dead gpu in like 2008, & 2 of the fan blades were missing. not sitting broken & loose in the case, not a melted pile of goo, just GONE
Fucking shitshow that is
here's gigabyte selling a triple fan 6500XT
Like why the hell Asus. Casually make your 6700XT be the same damn size as a 3090
Lmao
that's like dual radding a ryzen 5500
School surplus special π
230-250w on a cooler designed for what. Like 500-600w
brb watercooling my ryzen 5500
And yeah RX6500 pulls like what sub 100w
Rx6400
now that i also played another UE5 game i have the same performance drop after alttabing :((((
Till I saw the Asus TUF 7800XT (it's the same size)
And I'm like holy fuuuuck that's big
6700XT with a triple fan is gonna live a loooooong time tho
It took a yt vid for me to understand how big it actually is
A long and cold time ngl
Not just triple fan
Triple slot
Asus. Why. Why is it so big.
yea i don't get why people think something like the 4090 is gigantic. sure, it's thick, but it's still just a triple fan
Yeah.
Like sure slot depth is bigger. But like I'm still in shock. A gpu that runs fine on a dual slot dual fan just fine
put a waterblock on that baby
Asus said. Nah let's put a massively overbuilt cooler
i don't mind it. still mostly against water cooling
i still kinda want to see tower coolers on GPUs
yea, same with my current gpu. 6800XT
Biggest gpu I've seen in cooler size is a power color fighter and that 2.5slot
Three fan 7800XT
my gpu before this was a 6600XT red devil, & that cooler is CHUNKY
Still love the size difference 5700xt vs 7900xt
same, might hardtube it in the future, but I got too many projects already
Asus for some reason does that too
Dual fan but thicccc
im thinking abt upgrading from a 2060 to a 3060 ti im so excited ngl
Man they actually wiped wiped this ssd
maybe i wont upgrade
my 2060 is a fucking beast wth
pushing 80-90 fps on ultra consistently
8GB of vram is questionable as a future upgrade
enough for 1080p ig
And a bunch of other icons too.
Anyone know of good USB sticks for people who keep losing them? π
Like with a GPS tracker or something? π€
I just realize, if they lose it because it's so small, and their only use case is to store files on it. I might aswell get a external drive.
Will be harder to lose I hope π
If the USB is small, you could attach it to a keychain
Unless you keep loosing the keys too
If you lose keys you shouldnt have keys
I have to admit though, I keep my office cabinet key on a keychain and I sometimes leave the keychain hanging in the lock lol
Because I constantly unlock the cabinet and forget I left the keychain there π
We also have lockers with card readers but I am too lazy to walk since the cabinet is literally behind my desk
Im back to the drawing board
I might get a AMD card to pair with my cpu. Cheaper too tbh
Yeah
3060 12gb
taking 7777 port must have been a bold decision
why do you say that
because #announcements message
because why wouldn't everybody want such a sweet port?
The game has been using port 7777 since start?
And most UE4 games use it too.
Just that dedicated server used also two other ports.
Took me 5 years to realise my small server rack vertical mounts can be moved back so I can close the glass door properly without bending the cables
And I was wondering all this time how am I going to plug the fiber cable into the sfp port and close the doors lol
I'd imagine a character replace is a lot faster than an image replace, so this makes sense
Buying a 6700XT used. How much y'all wan a bet it's gonna need a pretty good cleaning
That's my understanding as well
5.6.0 and higher is effected
so rolling release distros and macos if updated recently via brew are effected

Rip.
pls no hack me
oh nvm then. I'm unhackable
do cat /dev/urandom
no
π
101 internet safety, don't just blindly copy paste commands
I mean it's just the rng
I mean yeah I use it for my CA
It's just a rng file which doesn't have an end
so ofc trying to read it normally can fuck some shit up
okay so 0.38 layer thickness on a 0.4mm nozzle doesn't work as easily as I thought...
Fuck around to find out
Fatfo
I'm asking the guy I'm buying the gpu off of to run a stress test and give me the thermal readout. I think this is a tad above what he's done before. (Explaining Tdelta and why I'm asking to see the thermal readouts)
ok yall so my setup is like this
but the desk has a weird shape, and i want to upgrade to this (bigger one)
problem is, im not really sure if it will fit in the right side?
- if it will hold the weight and 2) if theres going to be a height difference between the last desk and this one
please for the love of it at least put a leg under that cabinet
cant really split the legs in half
pretty sure theyre both in one in ikea
- the cabinet cant even open if u put a leg there
this is 5 years old atleast
and I hope you have 10 years of bad luck
i was like 11 years old when we furnished this room
and obviously i got no choice
im here to ask for help not get shit on π
here is help:
get 2 ikea alex, a 200x60x3cm piece of wood and a therapist
i dont think you need anything else
nah, the monitor is too close to my eyes
kinda uncomfortable
i would very much like a bigger desk
wait that's the issue?
you just replied to it
table is not long enough, since my monitor stand is clunky monitor is very close to me and i dont really have a lot of space
- i am forced to put the monitor as left as possible otherwise it literally does not fit
are you sitting like this?
.... no
but in general i dont have space, as you can see in the photo the entire mousepad has to be placed to the right of the monitor instead of in front of it
so whenever im playing games i have to extend my arm a lot
and its just uncomfortable
how big of a mouse surface do you need
the mousepad itself nothing more
but i cant really use it to its full extent, only 50% of it is actually usable because the rest is too far away
I use like a 8x8 square for my mouse area
"nothing more" brother you're using australia as a mousepad
eh when playing games it helps
actually et me measure
my mouse is 5in from side to side of my screen if not less
lemme try too
mines also about that much yeah
800 dpi, so for a 1080p display should be 1.5 inches or something
1600dpi here
6k dpi here
same color
just a stock photo
drove it like an old lady home, didn't mess with any settings yet & need to get used to it
you should wrap it in camo green
chevy yes, pickup no
Around 8-10k here, but low sensitivity in Windows
I've grown to hate Chevy software
i've always hated GM light & wiper sticks
OnStar. Don't even get me started.
I was given the title to an 85 4wd toyota pickup that runs
gonna be my "project" for the forseeable future
oh if i could deactivate all brand-related stuff i would. gimme android auto, buttons & knobs for A/C & radio, a backup camera, i'm good
That is kernel version, not xz version?
Whops, you noticed when lines later...
definitely going to be adding in a dedicated 240V charger π€£
Because people don't know about channel overlap and set their AP:s to "unused" channels in between.
And then the people who force the 40MHz channel use.
I have absolutely no idea why the original spec had 5MHz channel interleave when the actual bandwidth was 20MHz...
Few days ago, I used wifi analyzer in one room and thought I had decent 2.4 ghz
Until I moved to another room and did the scan again...
But that -80dB shouldn't affect anything AFAIK.
So only one of the other APs is close enough to matter.
U6+ should arrive next week since my router wifi is bad
I prefer separate AP and router since all-in-one combo is not a good solution imo
Dont assume all people have control over their router
Most just get installed, configured and controlled by ISP.
And the bad days when those fucked up are about 10 years ago.
Anything newer uses only channels 1, 6, 11 and 20MHz channels.
Hell, I barely have control over it. Which annoys me. So I could bridge and do my own router. But the average citizen doesn't know all this.
As in N-max APs and before often used all channels, not just 1, 6, 11.
And N APs often used 40MHz channels always.
But AC and newer are AFAIK actually have correctly working firmwares in that sense.
Normal people consider bad neighbour someone who is being rude to everyone else. In the tech community, a bad neighbour is someone who uses 40 MHz on wifi
This is going to turn into an ugly mess soon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AGPRJM4HH8
Deepfakes are videos that use artificial intelligence to manipulate the appearance or voice of someone. They can be used for entertainment, education, or even malicious purposes. But what happens when someone tries to use a deepfake to avoid legal consequences? In this video, we will explore some of the shocking court cases where people have cla...
I wonder how court is going to decide if an evidence is deepfake when there is no deepfake detection software with high accuracy
and people have been warning for this ages ago π€·ββοΈ
but technology goes faster than laws/goverments.
I'm still pissed about writing the proposal for the ad-hoc project related to deepfakes in order to get EU funding and educate people a year ago. My proposal got denied because it was not considered "relevant enough"....
People obviously don't undertand how serious deepfake is
The first thing it was used for was X rated content. And probably this is the biggest market.
It's a serious issue, but people been sleeping on it.
It's going to be used pretty much everywhere and it's starting to look ugly already
Untill their children gets caught by a deepfake in a video, then it's π
Let's not be naive here ...
It's going to be a major issue for the coming future, deepfakes, privacy, AI, anti-AI, ...
can mimick your voice with a 15s sample
I wonder for what it will be used π€
Lol, just read that article like 15 minutes ago
Trying really hard to spot the difference between the reference audio and the generated one
So in times people don't trust the new sources or anything they hear/read.
Now AI is going to even troll people with deepfakes, what can go wrong
Oh, even less trust in society π
The generated voice is really good although you could hear some static if you listen really carefully but It's getting harder to detect with each day
I hate when DeepFake is used to bring back dead people. Just let them rest
Or when they bring back the deceased with DeepFake so they can tell their children a "life lesson". This really turns my stomach
I just ask myself, what benefit is there in it for me?
And I don't see it. I only see problems with deepfakes.
I'm afraid we already opened the pandora's box and there is no going back
Trying to look for a silver lining π€
Even if deepfakes are able to speed up productions of movies etc. I doubt the quality of movies will improve. Or the price of a ticket will go down.
Maybe we get even more flashy CGI down the line, but that hit marvel in the arse atm.
A christian party used AI to bring back a dead politician for a TV commercial π
www.vrt.be/vrtnws/en/2023/12/07/_the-beast-is-back-christian-democrats-bring-former-pm-back-to/ (vrt is one of the biggest newssite in Belgium)
That is so disrespectful
Yeah, I don't like it either.
Does this means this can happen to any of us?
That if they find a video of us on the internet, and we are dead, they can use that video to create AI version of us, then create commercials.
Win-win, you don't have to pay a dead person to use their "footage"?
As long as there are enough pictures and voice samples available publicly, you could make a deepfake of that person
Not sure if you could make a proper deepfake with only a single picture of the person
it's weird, I don't know
will get worse before it get better that's for sure
maybe a few deepfakes from presidents and politician before they take more action
and in the end the companies behind this tech are just blinded by possibilities and money.
Does anyone have any reccomendations on how to share a keyboard, and mouse, and usbc port across two to three different systems?
like a KVM but without the V
So just a usb switch with both usb a and usb c ports?
I use some basic usb switch with 3 usb a ports which can be connected to 4 different pc's
Something like this? https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Computers-Switcher-Selector-USB-Microphone/dp/B0CH7T76RX
2 USB-C PCs Share Multiple Devices: UGREEN 4-In 2-Out USB C switcher supports 2 Mac computers sharing 4 USB devices like keyboards, mouses, headphones, and USB cameras. Switch freely between your work computer and personal laptop and boost your work efficiency. 10Gbps Transfer Speed: The USB-C sw...
yea something like that, I dont need anything highspeed just enough for keyboard and mouse and the occasional need from a hardware key
There should be a lot of usb switches on amazon although finding several models with both usb-a and usb-c might be a little bit trickier
idea being want to use macbook and desktop with the same monitor
dont really care about video since macbook is hdmi and desktop is DP
which one is it
That should be enough
HMM
Found UGREEN 5Gbps version although I don't know anything about UGREEN quality
might just forgo this idea and just use parsec to view the desktop that way with like a 200mbit uplink since my network can handle it locally
Sorry, clicked the wrong reaction lol

Also recently noticed Amazon offers free shipping on a lot of items worth β¬49 or more here. Not sure if it's a limited promotion because of Easter or they plan to continue offering free shipping on certain items
Mostly on items sold by Amazon
Never had free shipping before
Not included in the list but still get free shipping π€·ββοΈ
take it while you can tbh
Hope free delivery lasts for a couple of months. Don't plan on buying anything atm
why are you printing with it in there
to ensure accuracy
Network print. We love not moving a MSD from pc to printer
The alternative is either having it outside and just a mess of cables or moving a micro SD from my janky ass card reader from PC to printer every time
So I'd rather just sous vide my pi than having cables everywhere and a separate chassis
6 hours, baby numbers π
it's also just 2 dnd minis π
this is the one running rn
Ah yes. Beer and 3D printing. Just like my forefathers intended.

Today we're "reviewing" the GameMAX "Hype," which DEFINITELY ISN'T inspired by a Hyte Y60. The Hype case is anywhere from $100 to $200, depending on where and when you look, and has poorly copied nearly every aspect of the Hyte Y60. We haven't seen a ripoff this egregious pre...
COOL!
(watch it & then giggle)
immediately gifable hilarity
hell no, that'd cost money
What would you do on a gamemax website anyways?
They're known for review sample manipulation, post review design downgrades, frequent component changes without significant differences in branding and paid reviews
reminds me of the sata drives that people buy & there's just an SD card inside it
Senheiser HD6XX, 600, 650, etc. Did they make weird proprietary cables for the headphones as a fuck you or for an actual benefit
I don't really see much benefit
gawd microcenter is so fucking awesome
what
got an intel fab, honeywell, northrop grumman, boeing, home of the F-35 Lightning, but no Microcenter. annoys the fuck outta me
& soon TSMC
do half height m.2 carrier cards exist that do both over nvme and dont require nvme bifrication?
half-height?
M.2 has one connector, with multiple keys and pinouts, and then two widths, and 5+ lengths.
What are you trying to do?
Split one 4x PCIe M.2 to two 2x ones?
https://a.co/d/fgHRDt6 but half height
Ah, normal PCIe half-height card.
If there is, MUX chips over PCIe 3.0 cost shitton, and so will the card.
And you need MUX on the card if you don't need bifurbication from the MB.
The company making cheap PCIe MUXes got bought and the prices increased to only be viable for server/professional market.
Which is why we went from lot of MBs having PCIe MUXes to get more lanes to only few top end boards having them.
We love proprietary expensive components
Just PCIe switch.
Anyone can in theory design and get one procuced, but the designign cost shitton and the market is smallish.
And there was only one company doing that for low unit price.
SMS is data.
VoLTE is because while 2G and 3G have separate voice mode that is "circuit switched", 4G and 5G don't and can only do packet data.
So to have voice over them, you need to use IP phone protocols.
And the providers couldn't just do that over normal VoIP pΓ₯rotocol, they had to make separate fork of that.
To not be just data carriers.
So VoLTE is VoIP that was bastardized to fix you to your data provider for the voice too.
Just any data network.
With same radio tech, you can always have longer range at slower speed.
So no, if someone bothered to make better 2G base station.
Unless 2G had some timing spec that limits range.
4G has that as about 100km?
Ok, original GSM had 35km max range because of such limit.
So yes, because of bad spec in 2G for TA max, it has pretty short max range.
Various analog mobile techs.
2G is first digital ones like GSM and CDMA.
With the 1G name for the previous analog ones being retroactive.
And then 3G was UMTS (GSM side) and CDMA2000 (CDMA side).
And CDMA never got 4G version, just switched to LTE too.
Which is mostly GSM side, with some CDMA side thrown in.
IIRC
Not really?
Two separate network standards, both which then got various upgrades, until they got merged with LTE and later to one standard.
Up to that point your provider supported one or the other, and same for your phone (some dual standard phones around)
And most countries had one or the other.
With US having both, depending on provider.
With CDMA locking you into Qualcomm as they owned the tech and patents.
I remember having unlocked phones only working with at&t (gsm) or Verizon. (Cdma)
Now the carriers just pick and choose which phones they allow.
More like downgrade.
But why?
Oh god... the base unit PDF uses is 1/72th of an inch...
So 1.6 and up that UserUnit can be changed as Float.
And then the page size is again Integer (or Float?) of those...
So in theory the largest size you can specify for the "page physical size" is 1/72" * Float-Max * Float-Max.
And the size of Float is left as non-specified and to be architecture specific, but recommendation is to limit to 32bit ones for compatibility.
72th feels wrong for some reason
Comes from the "Point" named unit in printing...
In typography, the point is the smallest unit of measure. It is used for measuring font size, leading, and other items on a printed page. The size of the point has varied throughout printing's history. Since the 18th century, the size of a point has been between 0.18 and 0.4 millimeters. Following the advent of desktop publishing in the 1980s an...
And there has been multitude of different actual values for same name over the years.
With almost standardization to that 1/72" since that was selected for PostScript etc. in 1984.
I meant its supposed to be 72nd
"seventy seckenths" vs "seventy seckents"
As in I typed 1/72th and I should have written 1/72nd.
Not really?
As base-10 isn't multiple of base-2, it isn't any easier or harder to convert than any other non-base-2-multiple would be.
And why octal and hexadecimal exist.
As those are base-2 multiples.
this isn't a bad idea
The moment when you don't know how to set your own password
You don't like it?
I can think of a couple of reasons why it's nice.. for your main network when you've got a password that looks like Sjd23>,s34!$s... and for your guest network
there is no reason to use something like Sjd23>,s34!$s nowadays. Something like Bunny1-Referable-Subsidize is way more useful and just as secure. But having an easily accessible QR code for your guest wifi is always nice (also every phone nowadays allows you to generate a QR code for the wifi it's connected to)
Vlc is still the best media player. On all platforms .
On smartphone, its especially nice that you can change speed and make a popup player.
Both windows and ubuntu feel like cave mens trying to write integrals in their attempt to give default media player. Or are they even trying?
Mpv is better
nowadays we just got fantasy words like grungle and shimble which are both responsible for 90% of internet infrastructure
whats with hateing on used parts from some people
like if its a better deal and you are buying from like ebay
WHY NOT buy the used part
Depending. I wouldn't personally buy anything with a battery or other parts which degrade used.
In general I'm a bit iffy with used electronics. That might just be a mental thing tho
like a gpu
for that id look for referbished
I just don't trust other people
If it's not "certified " refurbished I'd trust it more.
Theres too many horror stories with gamestop. They just take them, test them (quickly) and resell it as certified.. You'll be lucky if they cleaned it with a vacuum.
yeah capitalism kinda ruined any "refurbished" titles
I'd rather just know that something is fucked than to look at screenshot from the apple.com website and trust that electro24.com has actually bothered to replace the battery
VLC is easy to use because of the integrated codec pack, but not really that good otherwise.
And the default settings on Windows don't even use HW acceleration, which the target audience doesn't know to change.
If that hasn't changed in last two years.
Most which has been somewhat "known" in specific circles since 787 development, but was never acted on by FAA.
But if it was murder, would be weird that it happened after second day, and just before the final day of deposition.
it was. No-one in their right mind thinks it was suicide
I mean that that makes the suicide being cause more probable.
I would expect murder to silence to have happened earlier.
maybe it was another QA issue and they outsourced their assassin
^
probably had internal pressure and debate for taking a skilled enough assassin out of their way to suck a dubious economic institution
instead of maybe defending American against foreign agencies
we should not forget that even puppetiers can be stupid
also this is not so technical
but technically lets not forget that big corporations can simply blackmail you or give threats so that only solution seems to be ending life
That was what was happening, extreme bullying.
So I do expect it was suicide, but caused by Boeing in many ways.
didn't he say if he dies it isn't suicide
Somewhat long time ago, possibly.
But at same time he was told to have been depressed etc.
With Boeing lawyers trying to do character assasination inside the court room.
i dont like technology sometime. wokeup to pc on login screen, so it did something last night. kodi still recognize fileshare or smb or w/e it uses, vlc on android doesnt want to show my pc anymore :V
its been told always, everywhere, in all such cases.
Wish I discovered HDF board before. It's moisture-proof but manufacturers don't install them in furniture because it's more expensive
They install cheap hardboards (or whatever they are called) instead which attract moisture
It is April 1st
How many people today are going to believe a fake story?
it's not an april fools bit

It'll hopefully be less than the number of people who can't figure out what channel to use in this server
hey guys, whats a good password manager?
I use LastPass and people tell me I should switch!
bitwarden
I've been really happy with bitwarden
noice!
Solid mobile and desktop clients with all the features I've needed so far
whats the cost of using on both PC and mobile?
only costs something if you want to have totp
or send encrypted files otherwise it's free
cool, can't see me needing that
Google Authenticator etc.
Which you can get for free through other apps
you mean the one app that syncs stuff in plain text
By default gh cmd stores stuff in plain text iirc
gh?
GitHub
No
but if you want to use git from the command line to work with github, you use the gh tool to do it
yippee
most studios are genuenly putting effort in this year i was kinda impressed by a game that hasn't had a single update in 7 years getting a "rebranding" out of nowhere
I have always worried about losing my whole account when using 2FA
Nice
do you guys use it?
yes
I have two 2fa options on everything, so if I get locked out of either I can still access accounts
I use either a yubikey or an authenticator app
coool
two hardware keys
got 2fa on my phone and on an old phone as backup
one stored elsewhere with someone who is trusted
Would be ideal, but the possibility of fogetting my keys leaving my locked out of important accounts is pretty daunting
But the chance that I end up somewhere without my keys or my phone and need to login is pretty slimj
I just never forget my keys
then if I dont have it then I guess its not that important
I haven't bothered to set this up anywhere, but it is also a solid option to use a yubikey configured with a pin for sso, rather than as a 2nd factor
But without 2fa the risk is greater. Its just shifting responsibility form some company to yourself.
Laso you often get recovery codes
Even steam has 2fa
i use standard git command all the time with github
also, gh auth login encrypts auth data by default now
git credential manager requires setup on linux to do the same thing
Yeah. Was never inclined to store them. I guess this new password manager does though.
My old one last pass never had such fields for storing info.
Those are something you want to usually store as paper.
Not in same place as the password, as that makes the 2FA useless if the PW DB leaks.
Indeed
can you tell me why git apply is having effects on all branches ? (didn't find any documentation online about that behavior)
seems to completely break the repository / current branch logic integrity
looks like very inconsistent to me
when you "apply" patch, you are affecting files
as with any other tools
why would you it affect branches and whole project snapshots instead of using things like "git merge" for that instead
This command applies the patch but does not create a commit. Use git-am[1] to create commits from patches generated by git-format-patch[1] and/or received by email.
you probably don't have anything to do about that
but wanted to share how inconsistent it looks to me
it does affects branches even if not commiting anything
that is buggy behavior to me
what you just quoted is what I was expecting
but what I experienced does not match that
Because without commit there isn't branching in a way, it is editing the base file that all the branches etc. depend on without normal change logging.
As WAG
the whole project files definition is a stream of commits
when you apply patch that goes in-between it can not just edit "base files"
as preceding commit depend on these
So it just breaks everything
*if password manager breaks, not the PW
point of password managers is to stora complex passwords
complex unique passwords guard you against someone hacking you once your password got leaked.
but managing a bunch of long unique passwords is hard without some kind of manager, but that's and independant service.
2fa completely guards you from password problems, but you still need to store that data somewhere, as well as reovery codes.
recovery codes prevent you being locked out if you happened to loose totp
As in if someone gets their hands on the PW DB data, they would get the 2FA at same time.
So the 2FA would be useless.
If the TOTP or the recovery codes are in the same app.
looking at the documentation for gitapply
it MUST behave as I said it should already
so this feels like a big bug
where git stops tracking files changes when using git apply
password manager with 2fa is still better than short reused password without 2fa
(when you change branches, git is usually inspecting tree changes and tells you "hold on a second, those changes aren't committed : revert/commit ?")
it provides tiny increase in secutiry since stolen password (from the service it is for) wont give away access.
and format-patch should be aware of these changes too
but nor format patch nor git diff gives any output after git apply
fucked up
but yes its way less than actually storing them separately
still not sure if there's redemption in making circular dependencies...
because if any accaount is hacked than they could seuqntually unlock everything
2fa is supposed to use stable sources for validation
if these leaks it does not means these are compromised
like if you leak your phone number
does not means that sending you authentication code on your phone is compromised
I may be completely off topic
but wanted to sort that out just in case
these
do you mean otp or the token for their generation or recovery codes as well?
2FA is just key for specific algorithm, if the information leaks, anyone can set up the same 2FA TOTP in another app.
And if the recovery keys leak, they can be used to reset the account PW and 2FA.
TOTP is just way to generate one-time keys based on time and secret.
"if the recovery key .." then it's not 2fa
it's single [recovery] key
btw, i see that companies treat 2fa and recovery codes quite differently
not sure that recovery code bypasses password in all cases... yet, its intended behaviour.
some allow using these instead of otp
recovery code/key is often given after you setup 2fa
but 2fa often involves OTP generation
seems like there are so many retards in the security field
But the point was if the recovery keys, or the TOTP secret are in the PW DB that someone got access to.
there's also a flavor of 2fa using sms/email OTP, and even stupid google's "yes" button
its enough to review 2fa in major IT companies like gogole, microsoft, github, atlassian.
they are all different
gogole sounds like legit company making ai art
Point was that you DON'T want PW manager that has TOTP functionality.
And you don't want to save the recovery codes in the manager either.
i mean... you should avoid doing that.
but this case is still better than not using 2fa at all (for any specific account)
it's a nice in-between of convenience and security tho. Yes it's not as secure as having a dedicated TOTP app, but it's more secure than not having TOTP at all. (and yes recovery codes are post-its under a drawer)
Imagine naming your product setup.exe2
What if you install it on a rack. Will the server rack tell you exe2 is an unknown format?
when you let the AI name things
for the april fools video you think they ported it to switch just to mess with
Def not
Just tracked the screen in post or played a recording on the switch
Probably the former, not the latter
It was really good tracking so thatβs why I wondered
asahi on my macbook is kinda stable
Fancy software is very good
so if you have a rack without rails, it holds the equipment for you? if so that's really neat.. and kind of useful
you can see gray edges
Switch has those factory
would be easier to play panorama or video imo
alo you can see misfocus distortions
So probably just a video being played on the switch then

why would you try complex (3d) tracking when you could just play video anyway
The guy handling the controls clearly wasnβt playing the game.
Also I thought it was just a video playing
i really cant tell if my laptop battery is trolling me or if its genuenly at 0% anymore
on this weeks episode of what will magicz break with his computers
we got a corrosion damaged laptop whit brain damage and battery problems! "loud crowd cheering plays"

well you can double the battery life if you just stop caring
That's where the most productive times lie
it dident even throw a service light this time π
Imagine the speed you can type at if your battery shows 0%

oh my last laptop was ... it survived like 4 years too long
2013 i3 with like 2 cores or something, by 2022 it had some courption or issue with its system 32, about 75% of the apps refused to open (spotify on browser is cringe)
chrome died on half the accounts, the other half where fine
thats what this thing is except its a 2018 model
it one time had a random square on the screen of about 50x50 pixels just ... become randised colours and freeze that way untill i restarted???

not to mention it operated on like 100mb of spare storage for like 4 years, it had 3gb of functional ram

Corsair moment
Pretty badly selected chart axis split...
No idea why the higher temp is on left...
And the noise floor is very high in the testing...
(That 35dBa)
36
TPU also shows the fans are just awful https://www.techpowerup.com/review/corsair-icue-link-qx120-rgb-120-mm-fan/5.html
Yeah, that chart does show for the one fan.
For the rest you only see where they max out near the noise floor.
Except the two that go into higher RPMs.
Small enthusiastic youtuber
Ok
He says he'd love to have access to better equipment, but too costly at his current state of 24k subs
It does better on a radiator
Also what TPU tested
Keep in mind, $50 fans
Too much rgb and useless shit on them
Much cheaper to make bling fan than good fan.
And obviously you can see all the led hotspots cuz corsair doesn't actually put a shit ton of leds per fan
For development and production line setup costs.
Or make good diffusers
Honestly giving $10 aliexpress vibes
But hopefully GN gets their fan testing method finalized soon...
They really do
good showing from the p12 max hanging with much more expensive fans
Pretty much go to fans for the 3000rpm category
that build looks solid other than thoes GPU power cables that kinda trigger me...
Unless you're way too rich
At around 2300rpm more options become available
This.
its obvious why temp is on the left:
what you are benchmarking is fan, not temp, temps fall with fan increasing in speed and so noise
so the axis follows the fan speed
more fan speed : lower temperature (to the right)
its basically increasing fan performance with normalized fan speed over db
basically we dont care about the speed as long as it cools down thing and is quiet
I get primarily triggered by the awful hotspotting
better value to the right maybe? idk, doesn't make sense to me either
Makes the best position to be bottom right.
Instead of bottom left or top right.
Which would be the logical ones.
So either both would need to be inverted, or neither.
You aren't using userbenchmark are you?
You shouldn't if you are
Also now that I thought of it, the temperature should be the vertical axis and sound the horizontal one.
And in that they are the opposite.
To match what others are charting IIRC.
Yes, that's common practice
As far as I can tell, that chart is just poorly thought out, not intentionally misleading though
Yep.
X axis noise, low β high
Y axis temp, low β high
It's just a bit of a head scratcher at first.
And people who don't pay attention will have diferent interpretation of the chart.
but as GS said, it's a smaller YT content creator, so probably just learning
He has done quite a lot tho

fair, I would go for both inverted, I find "inner" performance graph to easily be missleading / biased/hard to read

That's the definition of entitled
sorry
That's typically just referred to as unterminated speaker wire
quick! lick it!
do you mean wire thickness?
the thicker the wire, the more resistance, so you need a stronger driver to get enough signal to the speakers
yea, at that distance you don't need anything overly special
I have quite a bit of familiarity with that set as well
It performs outstandingly well for how low power it is, sub included
That's one of the best performing 8in home theatre or audio subs that I've seen
Not really
A high quality dac will perform better than toslink
For a home theatre setup where the audio source is coming from the tv, toslink can give an advantage over the integrated dac in the tv
The best option for quality would be earc over hdmi but that audio set doesn't support it
Are you running it in full 5.1 surround mode?
You should be able to
Just buy a whole roll of it
Then I wouldn't expect to see a ton of difference between toslink and the alternative
This is going to be fine π
What mobo?
If you already have the analog cables, I wouldn't reccomend going out and buying a toslink
what cpu?
Ah, that board does have above-average dac in it
Def no reason to go with toslink then
Yeah
It's actually got a high impedance amp for fancy headphones and a very good dac in it
Out of those three, the toslink would be the worst
I really don't reccomend it
Unless you're doing studio-grade mastering, that onboard audio will do more than you need
Most all motherboards have onboard audio that's more than good enough for what even above average users will be doing nowadays
The best reason to buy a dedicated sound card to add ports
Admittedly, it's ancient, but the house computer at one of the bars I DJ has integrated sound so bad that when I did A/B testing versus its USB DAC, everyone quickly said the integrated was worse without knowing what I was doing.
Yeah
What I said about onboard audio doesn't really hold true for the cheapest laptops, aios, or mini pcs
And pre-2015 desktops can be a toss-up as well
I still have my old pci(non-express) creative card
That sounds like a software issue
Not hardware
The satis wiki?
Ohh
Yeah, that's a project I like to donate to
Them, mozilla, and a few ad-free radio stations
Wikipedia
That's why I was aksing, wiki.gg doesn't accept donations as far as I'm aware
Onboard audio is fine but
Some higher-impedence drivers wont like it
As in
Lower volumes might be no volume at all
That board specifically is rated for drivers up to 600ohm
It has a one of the nicest onboard amps out of any board
if that
My board has 50, and I have the HD6XX's so I got an Audigy RX
Now, I regret my decision because it has a buggy ass driver that will randomly pass headphone audio to mic for zero reason
wow
Seems to be something tied to volume
Also only happens in certain applications
Such as discord while watching youtube
But yeah its horrible
And I know it's either the driver or poor insulation in the card bc muting my mic (and physically moving it far from my headphones (i have a modmic)) does nothing to mitigate it
So yeah if you buy a sound blast, don't get the RX, its trash
But I didn't want to spend $100+ on a sound card
$10 Apple USB-C to 3.5mm adapter is a godtier DAC given its price - only Americas tho, EU version sucks
and weak-ish amp (still better than most onboard chips)
It has the potential to support higher bandwidths than it currently does, but as it stands it's not super useful
There are a couple variations on the standard that are much better though
my 2060 is somehow running a consistent 60 fps on ultra with lumen on
wtf
wdym
lmao fair
does anyone here know regex, what does this filter do in automod \b\w*h\w*\b
i figured it out
h is banned in my friends server
any word with the letter h wtf
I was in a server that banned nig, since it appears in one very specific slur
ok but when is nig ever used not in the slur
But it turns out that any variant of night also uses those three letters
OH
also did i miss something why is everyone a clown?
i guess im ahead instead of late to the party
Are ethernet surge suppressors overkill?
They're only one end. They're for outdoor runs, and to have one on each side. All of my cabling is in the attic with cameras on the eves
So my chances of issues should be pretty low, but if something does happen, I'd rather lose a couple of cameras or access points and not a $700 switch.
there is truly no such thing as a big enough desk
my desk is always just loaded whit crap
i tought it was big enough until i put all my stuff on it and now it is no longer big enough
move your pc to a rack in the basement, instantly more desk... or floor space.
i can do that but...... humidity = corosion
got a closet?
yes but it also has a ceramic floor
why would that matter?
because ceramic collects humidity like crazy
your pc won't be on the floor. that's what the equipment rack is for.
why are we talking about slurs in tech chat
i guess but would it really be worth setting that up for 2 computers only
because that would be probably a combined like 100-200 foot of display cable
you can move your networking equipment into there too. and don't use display cable. use fiber or whatever that kvm thing is that ltt tried and had all kinds of issues with
they have these hdmi over lan o.o
probably 5600mt/s
Pcpp says 6400mt/s
its good for higher but its unstable at higher
AMD's sweet spot with latest agesa is 6400 iirc for 32gb
i have 6400Mt/s but you end up whit essentially the same micro stuters that sli use to cause
I mean your system can't be used as a comparison as it's. Who knows what's going on with it
where it freezes for like 30frames every 7-10 or so seconds
Yeah
Prolly best I stay amd
Also
What's with mobos skimping out on the io
Unless I'm paying like $400 cdn for a Rog Strix board
capitalism
With 4-DIMM board officially:
4400MT/s with 2 DIMMs, 4000MT/s with 4x1R, and 3600MT/s with 4x2R.
That 5600MT/s is only for 2-DIMM boards.
Actual is of course higher.
With most CPUs on good 4 slot MBs being able to do 7000-7600 MT/s.
With 2x1R.
When memory controller voltages are raised etc.
Discord code sucking:

Update: So apparently, this is happening because discord's spaghetti code is basically causing this video to loop in the background of everyone's clients over, and over, and over again.
Discord might have just made YouTube lose thousands- if not MILLIONS of dollars.
And Taiwan got hit by two big earthquakes...
7.5 magnitude both.
Better news sources seem to say only one 7.2 one.
So 7.7 according to Japanese, 7.4 according to US and 7.2 according to Taiwanese monitoring agencies.
So both humanitarian problem, and chip shortages coming.
??
The maintainer hates AMD and has made the tests have extreme anti-AMD bias in them.
I've not heard of userbenchmark soooo... unless it's soemthing default I'm not using it??
Just internet site to "compare" CPU and GPU performance.
Ohh ok
And an astonishingly popular benchmark among beginners
Because most people don't know about the sites bias?
paid actor
And because they're consistently the top results on Google
Top result on ddg too
Especially beginners often want to compare two direct competitors to each other
Was there ever a time when newer estimations were bigger?
Disaggreement by various countries monitoring departments, and I would expect Taiwan to have best data.
Doesn't change what happened, just a number in the end, about how much energy was released.
Intel foundry branch lost 7billion last year
Ceo says its because of bad decisionβs.
Doesn't really matter if Intel foundries are underutilized, as moving a chip design between different nodes takes minimum of a year, and often two or three.
So if all the Taiwan fabs are down for a month for example to fix and reverify after the quake, no-one will move their production to Intel fabs.
The PR node name numbers are not comparable.
Intel has named their nodes more conservatively than TSMC for 10+ years.
Their 10nm was comparable to TSMC 7nm, and in many aspects better.
For the actual area efficiency for actual circuits.
TSMC N7 has 40nm between metal wires, Intel 10nm has 36nm for example.
Intel reports a density of 100.76MTr/mm2 (mega-transistor per squared millimetre) for its 10nm process, while TSMC's 7nm process is said to land a little behind at 91.2MTr/mm2
But currently TSMC is in lead, as Intel fucked up with that 10nm for so long, and the "Intel 7" is just minorly improved "Intel 10nm"
Because they tried to make the switch to 10nm too giant leap.
They tried to jump over a node size in a way, and that was step too far.
And had made many of the senior people get severance and leave the company "to save costs"
So too giant leap, and the experienced engineers had left to save costs.
No, just MBAitis causing the engineering resources actually available not match what was attempted.
Causing delay after delay when the stuff didn't work.
Which cost much more than it would have done right.
Intel just before the 10nm design process started giant program to get rid of the senior engineering people to "save costs", by offering giant severance packages for people leaving voluntarely.
As the normal MBA think that the junior engineers just entering the company are just as good as the people who have worked there for 20+ years, just much cheaper.
And then try to do the largest node jump in a long while...
They are getting back on track now.
Time will tell if the leadership learned that MBA-school doesn't teach that much about real world.
And in actual skilled trades, the people aren't just replaceable identical machines.
A lot of companies are learning that lesson currently
I don't feel any sympathy to those in management that sympathised with this idea in the first place
MBA was supposed to be something that people from other tracks went to when they were promoted to management, to get management skills in addition what they already knew.
But now you have so many MBA-only managers, that have been taught that "they know best" and experts are losers.
And that only way to future is to cut costs, etc.
To save money you need efficient processes. To get efficient processes you need to understand the process before messing around in them or with those executing them
But they haven't often been taught that XD
or their competency lies elsewhere
Nah, often they are taught that every place can run with same process.
No matter in what kind of company you are in or who you are managing...
From coders to factory floor etc.
"You don't need to understand what your underlings do, you are a manager and you decide how they do it"
Lets just say the contents of the courses have gotten somewhat "corrupted" over time.
Basically telling LoL players about current meta champs but not being specific about position so they end up playing garbage
But in a way that is just money shuffling between units.
The Foundry side not charging the CPU side enough per wafer.
Making the CPU etc. side numbers seem better.
The actual fuckup is that need to use TSMC to produce some chips as their own foundries are too behind on tech.
Latest being that try to not use EUV and just old tech for too small nodes.
Which probably caused very bad yields.
Well they lost 5% stock just today because of news
Stock price doesn't actually affect the companies at all, except when they issue new stock for money.
The managers etc. do care because of stock form bonuses.
Stock is about ownership.
Only time the actual company gets money when stock is sold is when THEY sell.
So IPO and and later "lets sell more stock to get money" times.
It can in some way affect bank loans, if the company owns some of their own stock and uses that as collateral.
But classically companies didn't own their own stock.
Stock buybacks were for long time mostly illegal.
The price going down means people are selling their intel stock to get rid of it.
Yes, but that is loss for the specific investors.
Not Intel.
How is that a possitve
despite intel reducing investment to maintain shareholder dividends
It means the value of the stock is lower. Thats still not so good for Intel.
They just have a few rougher years ahead of em.
Like I said, stock price and market cap etc. don't affect the actual company at all except when they sell new stock...
Stock price is indicator how investors value the company.
And I am saying it does. Why else have stocks if company isnt affected by it.
Selling stock is the way to get money, when you issue new stock.
Why would a company go on the market if it had no benefits of stocks. Makes no sense.
But last time Intel issued new stock is ages ago.
The current "stock price and market cap are everything" are pretty new intentional distortion made by specific right-wing "economists" in '60-80s.
Stock price increases don't give money to the company the stock belongs to.
And decreases don't remove money from them.
No, but itβs value goes up and down. This does impact other things.
Again, donβt downplay stocks. It does have effects.
It affects the stock owners.
Not the company.
But as the leadership team is often significant stock owner itself...
And in theory the stockowners are the ones who select that leadership team.
Else it wouldnβt be news either.
Like I said, the market has been intentionally distorted over time.
βThe impact of stock prices on company performance can be both positive and negative. For example, if a company's stock price goes up, it may be able to raise more capital and expand its operations. On the other hand, if a company's stock price goes down, it may have to lay off workers or cut back on its operations.β - google
Only if it owns some of its own stock and uses it as collateral for loans for example.
Second is usually just leadership trying to do shit that would make the stock price go up again.
Or if they intend to sell more stock to get more money.
In that case the stock price determines how much stock do they have to sell, to get specific amount of money.
And selling more stock causes there be more stock around, which waters down the price of each one.
But problem is that the distortion on what stock market actually does has been going for 50+ years now.
So the distorted view is the "META".
And as it is what gives the rich more control, they like it.
π€·ββοΈ
Thatβs what they teach in school.
βMetaβ or not. Itβs just the truth.
school dosent teach much other than "everything in life is a obstacle now figure it out"
No, it is from same people who brough the idea that "company exists only to bring profit to the shareholders".
Which still isn't actual law in US for example.
But most people think it is.
Euh not sure what school you went to, but mine didnβt teach that π
The Friedman doctrine, also called shareholder theory, is a normative theory of business ethics advanced by economist Milton Friedman which holds that the social responsibility of business is to increase its profits. This shareholder primacy approach views shareholders as the economic engine of the organization and the only group to which the fi...
Anyways, the guy behind that, and republican clique of similar thinkers have caused SO much damage over time...
But that was the whole point, to make it easier for rich to get richer.
Economists in a sense that they first selected the policy target based on ideology, and then built "foundation" and reasoning for that, then released as economic theory.
So politics disguised as science, like much of "economic theory" over the years.
Basically the whole "school" of science is has been completely rotten for very long time and doesn't follow scientific method at all.
And the same rot has entered other fields as result of the changed in how funding is assigned etc.
School teaches you what reality is, but not how it works and what your place in this system is
And when you go study economics or management, you're basically taught how to be the profiteur
And never in this whole cycle do you ever hear about the majority of people and what their place is in this system
School should teach what we think the reality is.
But often doesn't anymore, as politics have entered the curriculum defining long time ago and have been getting ever more prevalent.
How bad that is depends on the country.
Civics etc. are often taught in western countries, or used to be but are being watered down.
this is why warner bros decided it's better to kill unreleased movies rather than actually ship product
but we're probably drifting from tech talk here
Yeah, I went into politics long time ago with this rant.
though it is topical as this is how we get FICSIT
Which is satisfactory talk and thereby also no tech talk
i picked up that Marantz mic ...
wasn't impressed, going to return it
it didn't isolate or reduce what it picked up any better than my crappy $15 desktop mic ... so clearly the wrong thing i was looking for. gonna try a 'shotgun' mic next to see if that works better for directional pick up
we should all report ourselves to the mods and build 10 screw factories each
apparently the marantz needs to be put on a boom arm, with a spit shield, and placed right in front of your mouth... then adjust the gain to super low...
but with all that equipment, and obscurded view, and such ... i'd be better off with just a headset doing the same thing π
so, my quest to find a voice chat mic for playing games that works good with my 5.1 speakers at the same time ... continues LOL ...
(yes im hunting the white unicorn)
idk im more entertained by trying to get 69% in every class
i have gotten 3 69%'s so far 1 of them was 69.69%
You're looking for stuff that you're supposed to do with software but built into a mic.
Proper mic setup according to an audio engineer I know:
ideally, you would want the mic upside down with the capsule eye level, and aimed off-axis to your cheek
distanced 6-12" (15-30cm) from your mouth
the best way to accomplish this would likely be mount the arm on the rear of the table so the mic goes over the monitors
Ahh so I'd need to manually oc ddr5 to hit 7200 on two sticks
XMP is OC profile basically.
Do they have 7200 as xmp
Yes.
Aight
Doesn't guarantee that the XMP will work in your system.
But that the specific DIMMs worked in golden sample system at that level.
