..
8lbs is actually heavy "for reduced fatigue"
no battery included
but no cord either
the battery weigh is known so only one specific battery can probably go with it
hook secures the tool when not in use
but hook not included
and what may be se securing the tool when in use ? no accessory possible for that ?
all the Caps in the first line for characteristics unordered
..
does not look nice
the only thing that looks nice is it's brushless

#

i’m assuming you just entirely don’t want to go through the hassle of building your own pc?

mossy linden
#

yup

#

never done it and don't want to fuck it up

dusk rivet
#

fair enough

mossy linden
#

ik there's tutorials but yeah

dusk rivet
#

but understandable not wanting to take that chance

#

just curious, what prebuilt brand are ya looking at?

mossy linden
#

wym?

#

oh

dusk rivet
#

the company you found the pc’s at

mossy linden
#

its called GoldenGamers

dusk rivet
#

found em

maiden coyote
dusk rivet
#

can’t say i’ve ever heard of the brand, so no idea what their reputation is

maiden coyote
#

it uses makita's lxt batteries.. pretty much any battery pack that's lxt will work. 2AH to 6AH.. I have the 6AH on it because it kills them fast

mossy linden
#

but they have a good reputation

narrow folio
#

add ~145 bucks for the PSU

languid gulch
#

is the NH-D15 really needed? i feel like an assassin 120SE would do it for a third the price

narrow folio
#

needed? no.

#

just a bit of patriotism

languid gulch
#

oh true

#

looks decent to me

sharp oasis
#

Who the fuck does that

dusk rivet
#

that’s what i’m saying!

narrow folio
#

paying for software is optional for some, but I do that since I earn my own money

languid gulch
#

it'd work well with the monitor, tho that 12gb might be pushing it a bit. i can max out my 6800XT's 16gb with SF or New World

dusk rivet
narrow folio
#

I was thinking about the 7800 XT too. very similar to the 4070. DLSS is nice...

dusk rivet
#

you can omit the sff case tho

dusk rivet
mossy linden
#

oh to have that much money hehe

#

ill take me like 6 months to pay it

dusk rivet
#

yeah… i’ll be getting a job to pay for that myself

mossy linden
#

but hey as we say in Chile

dusk rivet
#

also have to factor in cost of living

mossy linden
#

el que quiere celeste que le cueste

narrow folio
#

I don't dare to say it, but... it's for my mum😁

dusk rivet
#

what

mossy linden
#

wha

dusk rivet
#

your mom might appreciate the sff case tbh

narrow folio
#

she plays gamesy yeah

dusk rivet
#

takes up less desk space

narrow folio
#

case will sit under the desk

dusk rivet
#

please put it on a hard surface and not carpet

narrow folio
#

given

dusk rivet
#

thank goodness

#

some people really put their pcs on carpet

narrow folio
#

how to clog it in no time

dusk rivet
#

exactly

#

especially with pc’s with bottom intakes

mossy linden
#

clog you pc speedrun any%

dusk rivet
#

bottom intake and carpet does not mix

narrow folio
#

"muh CPU so hot! muh pecee crashing! helps me!"

dusk rivet
#

-“send pic of pc”
-pc is on carpet
-“i’ll give you two guesses as to why it isn’t working well, and if you don’t get it in one, i’m taking your pc away”

#

also only a 1tb ssd for your mother is criminal

#

do better for your mother

narrow folio
#

she has 256GB now...

dusk rivet
#

*intense look of shame*

mossy linden
#

anyways thank you very much for the answers

dusk rivet
#

better be a chromebook with google drive

dusk rivet
mossy linden
#

imma wait till the chrismashfh offers

wanton orchid
mossy linden
#

forgot how to fucking write chrsismas

dusk rivet
#

christmas

mossy linden
#

holidaus

#

holidays

narrow folio
#

but can it run chrisismas?

dusk rivet
#

go look up the dimensions of the formd t1 v2.1

#

it’s legit the size of a shoebox

mossy linden
#

idk how its actually written 😭

dusk rivet
#

a childs shoebox

dusk rivet
narrow folio
#

9.95l

dusk rivet
#

i just realized both of those probably have religious ties

narrow folio
#

just to be able to say UNDER 10l

dusk rivet
#

the more you no

mossy linden
#

thanks, have a good day/night or whatever timezone you have

dusk rivet
#

9.95l is tiny

narrow folio
#

nice case, much mesh

dusk rivet
#

there’s only a handful of 7900xt’s that’ll fit

narrow folio
#

very tight fit indeed

dusk rivet
#

so pretty tho

narrow folio
dusk rivet
#

lovely folks over in the sff discord were so much help picking out parts and some other helpful bits of info

narrow folio
#

how to shoehorn a powerhorse into a cardbox 😁

dusk rivet
#

legit like putting a jet engine in a kia soul

#

by removing the seats

narrow folio
#

get on the roof and hold on tight

dusk rivet
#

pretty much

#

custom cables are basically mandatory

#

there’s legit just not enough room for stock cables

narrow folio
#

soldering iron go brrrr

dusk rivet
#

i could go truly custom and shorten each individual wire like “optimum” on youtube did

#

truly beautiful

#

truly must be painful to do

narrow folio
#

nah, soldering is easy once you figure out where the hot end is

languid gulch
#

i've seen someone stuff a chevy small block into a CRX, it's doable

dusk rivet
#

having a sff pc is gonna save me so much desk space

#

also should handle 1440p gaming no problem

narrow folio
#

7900 XT schould even handle 4k nicely

dusk rivet
#

nearly tied for 3rd best gpu

#

only slightly behind the 4080

languid gulch
#

& with a 7800X3D, that should be good for gaming for a good long while, the 4070 will be an easier swapout when the time comes

dusk rivet
#

i really don’t see too many 4080’s

languid gulch
#

oh did you change your mind to go over to the 7900XT?

dusk rivet
#

loads of 4070’s and 4090’s, but not many 4080’s

dusk rivet
#

we both have the 7800x3d tho

languid gulch
#

oh brain fart

dusk rivet
#

yeah lol

narrow folio
#

even when a full AMD system is tempting I'll probably stick with the 4070. have go sleep over it

dusk rivet
#

don’t really have much use for those nvidia only features, so amd was the right move for me

#

might not be true for you tho

languid gulch
#

i jumped from nvidia to AMD & haven't regretted it at all

narrow folio
#

the 'target audience' aka my mum will never see much of a difference, so could go the AMD way...

languid gulch
#

i have 0 brand loyalty, value over everything else

dusk rivet
#

extra fps from the 7900xt might be nice

#

oh and i would go 2tb m.2 if it were me

#

though kinda depends how big the games your mom plays are

#

if it’s stuff like rdr2, jedi survivor, cyberpunk, etc then you’re gonna need that 2tb

narrow folio
#

the real reason she wants a new pc anyway was when she saw my play 'stray' she got the game and it wouldnt even launch on her old rig

dusk rivet
#

if it’s smaller stuff, she’ll be fine with a 1tb

languid gulch
#

speaking of

#

i get to do the drive swaparound

narrow folio
#

I'll go with the 1TB for now, will slap in another m.2 if needed

languid gulch
#

with a side order of moving my OS to another drive

dusk rivet
#

there’s always that option, yeah

languid gulch
#

with a reinstall i think, because for some reason this install has never been recognized as win11 ready even tho it very clearly is

narrow folio
#

win11 left a bunch od older hadware in the dust. I hope win12 will not do the same again

#

but as TPM 2.0 was one of the main issues from 10 to 11 that should be available anyway on everthing runing 11

languid gulch
#

oh yea but i'm on a 5600X

dusk rivet
#

hate when new os's deprecate old hardware then don't replace it

languid gulch
#

definitely hardware ready, just something in the OS brain farting

#

but if i'm moving the OS to a new drive, might as well clean it up with a fresh install

dusk rivet
#

i'm definitely not gonna pirate the os for the new pc

#

i'm definitely gonna spend more than 100usd on a legitimate key

narrow folio
#

the troubles you have with non legit keys are not worth it

dusk rivet
#

definitely

narrow folio
#

those were my friends back then

wanton orchid
narrow folio
#

the hasse to circumvent whatever protection there is or may be

languid gulch
#

or the feature lockouts for not having activated

narrow folio
#

depending on where you get your cheap volume license you can have luck and it works forever. or it gets denied someday

sharp oasis
#

I'd have to ask my freind again for what exactly the command is

dusk rivet
#

we're definitely tip toeing right on the line of what is against discord tos

narrow folio
#

yeah, windows is not like winrar where you click 'nah, no money for you, I'll just stay in demo mode forever, but thanks anyway!'

sharp oasis
#

And I think chat got can Gen windows keys

#

Albeit not win 11 ones, yet

jagged snow
dusk rivet
#

not without windows shoving it down your throat that you haven't paid them

jagged snow
#

That's true

narrow folio
#

and I like to get payed for my own work, so I pay for others work too. even if it's M$

dusk rivet
#

microsoft gets paid enough

#

linux is free isn't it?

narrow folio
#

free as in free speech, not in free beer

#

valve is pushing gaming on linux quite hard since the deck hit the market.

dusk rivet
#

steam deck uses linux?

narrow folio
#

sure

#

you can throw windows at the hardware

#

the rog ally comes with win 11

#

has some benefits as you can use it like a regular pc if you want (with a dock)

#

but the deck can do that too and the new OLED version is kinda tempting

dusk rivet
#

switch did that too

#

just give us the better screen to begin with

#

only reason i’d consider the switch oled is the bigger screen

languid gulch
#

idk if i'll ever get over how hilarious it is to have a stick of gum with 4tb of storage on it

jagged snow
#

That's almost as crazy as the 1tb microsd cards

languid gulch
#

i just remember my first flash drive was bigger than my thumb & had a whopping 8mb on it

jagged snow
#

That's an insane amount of storage for something smalller than the nail on my pinkie

narrow folio
#

microsd cards are a true marvel of technology

#

well, at least for now

#

kinda like my 540MB 3,5" HDD was back then

languid gulch
#

i may have also spoiled myself with some new spinning rust

narrow folio
#

spinning magnets are fine for some applications, but for me those are a thing of the past.

languid gulch
#

yea, i just wanted a big fat drive

#

now i have to figure out what order to do stuff in

#

going to be installing a 4tb nvme, which i think means i have to get rid of one of the sata SSDs, but also installing the new big drive means swapping out another SSD

#

which is 100% fine with me, it means going from 2x250gb sata SSDs to a 4tb nvme+ fat storage

dusk rivet
#

my headset is being so dumb rn

#

it's capping it's fps to 45 (90hz screens) despite my gpu chilling at 66% utilization

maiden coyote
languid gulch
#

but now i have to decide if i put the OS reinstall on the nvme, or put it on a sata SSD since i'm pretty sure the nvme will have split lanes

dusk rivet
#

OH WAIT

#

it's cpu bottlenecked

#

that makes a lot more sense

narrow folio
#

I'd go OS on nvme

languid gulch
#

already got 1 nvme drive installed

wanton orchid
#

and ?

narrow folio
#

oh, you mean to split lanes between an m.2 socket and some sata ports?

languid gulch
#

5600X only has 20 PCIe lanes. 16 taken up by gpu, 4 taken by 1x nvme right now

wanton orchid
#

and it splits to what ?

languid gulch
#

i think the nvme drives would split to PCIe x1

#

or 2

narrow folio
#

what board?

wanton orchid
#

I didn't see nvme split to x1
unless it was a third or fourth m.2 or something

#

would be bad

languid gulch
#

would the lower nvme then be shared with the sata ports then, no splitting between the 2 nvme drives?

wanton orchid
#

but keep in mind PCIe 3.0 x2 is still more than 4 times faster than SATA

#

nvme is no joke

languid gulch
#

k, so best idea would be to put the OS on the upper slot, then game drive on the lower, with fat drive on sata?

wanton orchid
#

I guess
what M.2 is splitted ?

languid gulch
#

checking

#

i think it's the lower

wanton orchid
#

if you have a CPU M.2 and a chipset (splitted) M.2
you want higher performance ssd on the CPU port

languid gulch
#

right

wanton orchid
#

then put high demand things on it

languid gulch
#

ah, upper is full x4, lower is x2. so upper is 100% going to the cpu

#

wait now i'm confused

#

OH got it

#

x4 lists sata support

wanton orchid
#

so some of the games
production stuff
and why not the OS so the other one is better exploited

#

x4 does not mean CPU

languid gulch
#

yea, looks like the lower is the dedicated x2 to the cpu instead, with the upper being a full x4 if just nvme, or split x2 if using Sata drives plus nvme

wanton orchid
#

but IF there is cpu one
then it will not split with sata

languid gulch
#

yea, wasn't reading it right

#

M2A is upper, M2B lower

narrow folio
languid gulch
#

makes sense from a maintenance standpoint too. could swap out the lower drive that's dedicated without needing to remove the gpu

wanton orchid
#

so it does not split ?

#

wtf
show the cpu infos please

languid gulch
#

it's a 5600X

#

checking

wanton orchid
#

I mean the motherboard cpu infos

#

there will be * stuff

narrow folio
#

the manual is kinda lacking that info (or I'm blind)

languid gulch
#

yea i'm not seeing that, just the supported CPUs & the bios revisions for it

#

5600X PCIe configs:
1x16+x4, 2x8+x4, 1x8+2x4+x4

wanton orchid
#

that's the only real kind of information we need from motherboard manuaks wtf

#

"2 x M.2 Socket 3 connectors
6 x SATA 6Gb/s connectors"
it's "SATA3 6Gb/s connectors" and "M.2 Socket"
smfh

languid gulch
#

hunting thru the manual

wanton orchid
#

the doc really has not been written correctly
the storage slots didn't even been re read once it seems

languid gulch
#

it almost looks like each nvme slot is also shared with 2 sata ports

wanton orchid
#

ASATA
what is even this
mixing real sata ports with ssd m.2 sata mode it seems

languid gulch
#

or if i slot nvme in the upper, i have access to all 4 sata ports, but if i slot nvme in the lower, i only have access to sata 0 & 1 ports

wanton orchid
#

who ever done this never re read anything they written

languid gulch
#

that seems really weird

#

& doesn't specify what sata i lose, if any, if i slot in a 2nd nvme

wanton orchid
#

there is literally no informations on the topology
and exactly when nvme x4 will split to x2
so assume both will be x2 AND you will not have sata ports 2 and 3

languid gulch
#

i mean, i was still planning on playing musical chairs with the drives

#

but yea some clarity to reduce the stupidity would have been nice

wanton orchid
# narrow folio

^ that for instance is completely bullshit in writing
M.2 Sata literally aligns with SATA3 ports
it tells nothing
this is fever dream shit

languid gulch
#

it sounds like they tried really hard to stuff RAID into this board 🤣

narrow folio
#

yeah, this manual in not much telling about some of the more important things regarding motherboards

languid gulch
#

eh, i'll figure it out 🤣

narrow folio
#

but don't forget... RAID

wanton orchid
languid gulch
#

1 fucking drive at a time, but i'll figure it out

languid gulch
wanton orchid
languid gulch
#

yea, definitely nice to know

wanton orchid
#

unless you need more you don't need to gamble

languid gulch
#

i think that means it'll cost me 1 more drive, but i'll still end up gaining more space in the end anyway

#

wasn't using it anyway

#

& yes, my drives are a frankenstein's mess of old laptop drives & new stuff

#

8tb, 2x 250gb ssd, 1tb ssd, 4tb nvme

#

nvme is just my game drive atm, so i can yank that, the 1tb, 8tb, & 1 250gb out without issue, slot in the new nvme, do a fresh windows install on it, & then start fiddling around with drive sorting

#

so by the end i should have 3 fewer drives but like 16x the ssd capacity

wanton orchid
#

what I don't get is what do they call "Asata

narrow folio
#

merge -force

#

is there a Bsata too?

wanton orchid
#

nothing in the manual is reliable at that point

languid gulch
#

🤣 i guess i'll find out what the limits are

wanton orchid
narrow folio
#

maybe sata is shared with the m.2 slot and if a sata m.2 is installed the sata ports dont work?

wanton orchid
#

people writing the specs was really not knowing shit about motherboard stuff I bet

languid gulch
#

i do know that when i installed the upper nvme it disabled at least one of the sata ports

wanton orchid
languid gulch
#

yea, should be fun, will give an update, probably once things go to shit

narrow folio
#

have fun!

wanton orchid
#

I hate that kind of shit

#

it's literally hurting the manufacturer itself
they know the thing

#

if they don't communicate it correctly at all they shoot themselves in the feet

#

like what the freaking hell

#

who does not care enough to write this shit or read this shit and tell itself "oh yeah everything's there, ready for market"

#

it's like if I was building a motherboard
and the whole documentation is

but I'm sure this MB can do stuff ```
narrow folio
#

like all those BIOS options in themanual '[AUTO] sets it so auto'

languid gulch
#

well, successfully unplugged most of the superfluous drives, & i figured out which of the 250gb SSDs is the OS 🤣

#

now onto the stupidity!

narrow folio
#

hope you are successful and everything works as you intend it! time for bed 🛏️

languid gulch
#

well, both NVMe drives are recognized at the moment, as is the 1 sata drive that my OS is currently on, getting ready to install fresh OS on the new drive

#

ok on the subject, dumb question

#

once i have a new install up & running, what does the old OS look like when i access it

languid gulch
#

yea i know this is probably mundane & stupid compared to what professionals do regularly, but i'm the only one in my family who's ever even tried any of this

languid gulch
#

ok now i want to know why formatting the nvme ended up halving its capacity

twin dew
#

mSATA is the old standard, not related to M.2 at all, think it as M.1 or like.

winged valley
#

Ah okay

twin dew
#

Like there was MiniPCI in laptops.
Both got replaced by M.2.

winged valley
#

I knew minipci came before

#

I just thought msata was current but nobody used it

twin dew
#

There will be no comments until the investigation is done.
That is to be expected.

#

And forgot about Mini PCIe before M.2 was a thing...

languid gulch
#

100% success on all the transfers. didn't even have to replug the sata connections

languid gulch
#

yea checked it, it felt like going with MBR instead of GPT

twin dew
#

You booted to BIOS version of installer and not UEFI

#

OS installer.

languid gulch
#

ah

#

yea brain fart. hopefully i don't need to do a reformat

#

honestly i'm just happy that i got all my intended drives to show up

#

was down to 9gb free on the original OS drive

#

do i need to do anything special once i'm in the bios to make it uefi

twin dew
#

You cannot change on the run easily for the installed OS.
Would need to disable CSM (BIOS boot emulation in UEFI), or manually boot into the correct installer, and reinstall.

languid gulch
#

damn

twin dew
#

But only major difference is boot time.

#

UEFI will be faster.

languid gulch
#

& 2tb of space 🤣

twin dew
#

Ah, 4TB OS drive?

languid gulch
#

yea

twin dew
#

And disk management only shows it as 2TB drive?
And not 2TB in use and 2TB free?

languid gulch
#

got a duplicate of the other drive so i can raid it if i want

#

yea, only 2tb recognized, can't reallocate

#

old OS drive was 250gb, so it's still a big upgrade

languid gulch
#

oh nice

#

so maybe no install from scratch

twin dew
#

There was a way, just that documents it in pretty easy steps

languid gulch
#

yay tyty

twin dew
#

The previous versions of instructions I have seen were much more hazardous, even when most of the commands were same.

languid gulch
#

yea this doesn't seem to crazy

#

i was around for the xp to vista days

#

k, time to give it a go

#

be back in a bit maybe

languid gulch
#

ok the conversion worked but it's still not letting me allocate

#

the option to extend the volume doesn't work

twin dew
#

But does it allow creating second volume?

languid gulch
#

yea, wondering if i should just mount it as a folder inside the OS

#

lol the official microsoft advice is to download a third party partition app to deal with it

twin dew
#

Trying to keep the partition as MBR bootable.

languid gulch
#

even tho i converted it over to GPT

languid gulch
#

Well trying to force it REALLY didn't work. Managed to make all my drives invisible to the bios. So, fresh OS it is

twin dew
#

That is expected when in UEFI only mode.
You cannot boot from a drive in that mode, those are legacy.
You have Windows Boot Manager entry instead.

#

@languid gulch

#

CSM/Legacy/BIOS mode shows drives.
UEFI mode shows boot loaders.

languid gulch
#

yea i'll work on it tomorrow

#

off a fresh windows install already, so hopefully it'll be a bit more amenable to being messed with

#

midnight here & my clothes washer felt like dying today, so that was fun

twin dew
#

Point was that drives not showing up as bootable was completely normal when CSM is disabled.

night girder
#

It’s not a government investigation. They will give us information if it fit their narrative. Else we will hear nothing of the whole story.

twin dew
#

The third party investigator firm/team or whatever would probably quit working at that point.

#

If LTT started commenting while the thing is ongoing.

night girder
#

That was our whole point. Who knows wtf is going on. LTT just went on its merry business.

#

Most people already forgot about it.

#

The firm could already quit. The firm could never be hired. Or the firm is doing its job. Not like LTT is transparant.

#

And on that subject. What screwdriver you use? hehe

twin dew
#

Various sets from Finnish hardware stores.

edgy hazel
#

One I stole from my dad

sharp oasis
#

The random Mastercraft set out of my dad's tool cabinet

night girder
sand saddle
#

No need for a single screwdriver if you got tons to choose from

#

Got a whole workshop at home, my uncle repairs mainly garden tools there

twin dew
#

When I can get close enough stuff from any tool store for half the price for good quality and tenth the price for crap quality.

tribal kraken
#

Similar to this set is about 5-10€. Had it for about 20 years and its about the only thing I've needed with PC. Allen keys too but many manufacturers suply them with parts

twin dew
#

Currently have this as the main home screwdriver set:

  • separate torx screwdriver set from T10 up, and separate set of small security torxes for sizes 4-10, and then security bit sets for almost anything.
#

And then there is that toolbox with its own screwdrivers and bitsets for common sizes, etc.

#

And then remains of another similar as the picture set just laying around.
Just missing that second ratcheting bitdriver so I don't have to get the toolbox out.

#

No GN, no iFixit, no LTT.

twin dew
#

Might be the best ever, but close enough to much cheaper local alternatives.
So no need to order from over the sea for insane price.

night girder
#

Overpriced maybe yes.

twin dew
#

Meant "crap" as in not "bad product" but as just "unneeded product"

twin dew
night girder
#

We were talking screwdrivers yesterday evening. I said there are better alternatives than LTT, but some have set their minds on it.

twin dew
#

And you need normal ones first, bit driver is extra.
Because the bit ones don't fit in many places.

#

Yup, checked, completely normal ratcheting one with handle internal bit storage.
Maybe made to better standards than the cheap stuff, but the Bahco etc. professional tools will be at same level.

#

And pretty small bit storage, with only 12 normal or 6 long bits.

#

Cannot comment on the handling or how the ratchet will feel.

#

General problem with that exact style of direction swap is that you often accidentally switch it while using.

#

But the handle might be long enough for that not to happen.

night girder
#

Yeah, I don't know about the LTT one. Saw some reviews and I just know there are better ones out there.

#

think Jay said it best. It's for a niche crowd.

twin dew
#

Also missing a way to turn the shaft with external tools for more force.
Usually by having six-sided bit at the base of the metal, so between the knurled section and the direction change.
Or just slot in the tool for non-ratchets.

#

So you can press on the tool with one hand, and turn it with another with more leverage.

#

But the Bahco doesn't have one either.

#

More of thing for the separate screwdrivers.
Or non-ratcheting bit ones.

#

That Bahco has 48 teeth ratchet, vs 28 on LTT.

night girder
#

I heard this one is pretty epic.

dire igloo
night girder
#

Think they are more expensive than the LTT one. But the brand has more experience.

#

Looking at the 15A cable for my laptop, I'm still curious why PD 3.1 upped voltage instead of just going for thicker cables. 28V interfaces are already there, and a 12A cable gets you to 336W. Enough for (basically) all laptops.

narrow folio
#

those usually come with a barrel connector

gilded helm

240W hasn't been adopted quickly because of the 48V interface.

240W USB is 48V, so my expectation is that most laptops will be able to accept that voltage

thicker cables lead to more copper used, but copper is expensive, so thicker wires = bad

The Online Service Experience Packs are quite similar to the Windows Feature Experience Packs. This is because they both allow you to make updates to Windows, outside of the conventional and recommended OS updates.

The difference comes in where Windows Feature Experience Packs is able deliver broad improvements over multiple areas of Windows. On the other hand, the Online Service Experience Packs are centered on making improvements for a specific experience, like the new Your Microsoft account setting page.

Yeah yeah, sounds like a dork from the 90's.

We are 2023 where AI can write code for us. What's the point of learning to write "bug free code" in MS Notepad for hours and hours when in the modern day and age we got tools to help us.

#

👆 During that era I would agree. But today, a good developer = use modern languages (multiple), be full stack, use AI tools.

rotund hamlet

AI can just predict what the next line of code might be based on code already written

That just makes it even weirder that I never see or hear about it

night girder
#

people from all over the world play it. Russians. Chinese. Americans. Europeans. All together.

winged valley
#

Hell I haven't seen a single dota meme in the last 5 years

night girder
#

Oh, it's not that popular maybe? But it's still free. I haven't played in ages.

#

I know it always ranked top on twitch too.

winged valley
#

Interesting

night girder
#

and it's free, so easy to download.

#

That's why TF2 is also in the top charts.

#

Because it's free to play and 90% of the "players" are bots 😄

#

TF2 is from 2007. Dang.

#

To be honest, top-10 is mostly free games it seems.

#
  • NARAKA: BLADEPOINT, Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, Apex Legends, Team Fortress 2, PUBG, all free.
#
  • Then you have GTA 5. But that's just a masterpiece.
#
  • Wallpaper Engine is running in the background, so it's farming up a lot of hours.
#

Call of Duty is cheating. And Baldur's Gate 3 is 🔥 .

charred pewter
#

i gave up on MP games in general because of how many cheaters there are... it got to the point where i couldnt tell if i lost to an actual skilled player, or some china cheater bot

#

so ive just since given up bothering... i do co-op only with trusted people now, or solo only

#

this coming from someone who LOVED MP arena combat games and excelled at them ....

night girder
#

I miss shooters. They are so fun. But I am with you Frigid. Can't deal with cheaters/hackers. Can't deal with toxicity/trolls. I just want a good shooter and have fun.

charred pewter
#

trolls were one thing... cheaters are another. trolls you just put on mute ... cheaters you cant do anything about

night girder
#

I whished I knew some people to play Arma 3 with. It seems military simulators with the right crowd are tons of fun.

charred pewter
#

right

night girder
#

and it attracts a more mature crowd cuz of the way games like Arma 3 work.

charred pewter
#

i used to play with a group of people in Planetside2 ...... but with how many players in the game and the sprinkling of cheaters... it got tired. it wasnt like 'play with a group inside a contained server only you guys had access too'

night girder
charred pewter
#

LOL!

night girder
#

and I want open microphone in tactical shooters because it can elevate teamwork to new heights.

charred pewter
#

yup

#

especially when it does 3d positional correctly

night girder
#

It's way easier to just say: enemy behind the corner, then to have to wiggle, or type it out. Or let a teammate find out themself 🤣

charred pewter
#

haha right 😄

night girder
#

That's why I played a lot of Battlebit Remastered a few months ago. But the developers are crashing that game into the ground with every patch.

charred pewter
#

thats how we played in ps2 ... we were only on squad comms, and could call out targets and infiltrate

night girder
charred pewter
#

it helps to have a discor server outside the game for that too .....

night girder
#

Yes!

charred pewter
#

you see a squad of guys all moving along together not saying a word to each and moving quick.... you know they are all on a private comms channel 😄

#

and to 'steer clear... they good'

night girder
#

But on the topic of cheating. I am not sure if you were here when we had the discussion. But a little while back I said the following: "Gamers don't want cheaters. Gamers also don't want Anti-Cheat Software with privileges over their computer / privacy concerns". I know this, because developers wanted to implement faceit into their games a few times but didn't go through cuz of the backlash from community.

#

"Faceit has full root access! It's spyware".

#

Now I am not going to say what is what. I don't know. But it made me think. If we want to get rid of hackers/cheaters, we also have to compromise. A.k.a. give a bit of trust to anticheat software that they have more access to monitor your PC, but don't abuse it.

#

I mean, I have nothing to hide. If implementing faceit reduce cheaters dramatically. I am willing to do that.

dusk rivet

the highest poly model in the whole game

jagged snow
night girder
#

So you rather play with cheaters?

charred pewter
#

yeah, ive never been against anti-cheat software in games... heck, even Denovu never really seemed to affect my gameplay negativly (nor noticed any increase/betterment when they take it out)

jagged snow
#

Imo, that level of anticipation should be required for ranked playmaybe, but nothing else

jagged snow
charred pewter
#

problem with server side detection... its hard to spot the aimbots with it

jagged snow
#

That's true

charred pewter
#

but then as i mentioned before .... aimbots generally turn someone into an NPC, and make them an easier target 😄

night girder
#

So is COD solution better then? They have bots hunting down cheaters and killing them? 😒

#

charred pewter
#

that would be hilarious ... the game begins to grief a griefer/cheater 😄

night girder
#

Just to annoy cheaters and hackers and hope they will leave the game. It's more psychologically warfare.

#

It's real 😄

#

Taking away parachutes isn’t the only mitigation included with Splat. If people are detected as cheating after the start of a game, Splat can turn “a bunny hop into a 10,000-foot drop,” instantly taking them out.

charred pewter
#

*"its a game bug" *

night girder
#

Activision has also been working on an improved server and client-side anti-cheat systems ahead of Friday’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III release.

#

And they state that they improved their server and client-side anti-cheat systems.

charred pewter
#

server detects aimbot... causes every bullet to miss 😄

night girder
#

I don't know. I rather have decent anticheat.

charred pewter
#

makes your bullets hit friendlys more than enemies

night girder

Faceit is London based company. I haven't read anything that made me lose trust.

charred pewter
#

oof 24gb patch for cp77

#

and ive still yet to really play the game LOL

#

i played it long enough to reach my apartment, then quit

Oh Frigid, I got 100% on steam 😄

..... why is there so many fraud attempts coming from france these days?! is that just what all the chinese are targetting for their IPs/VPNs now or something, geez.

#

(its always the chinese when it boils down to it)

charred pewter
#

and thats not racist =p

charred pewter
#

"all these new accounts have gibberish to names, they must be fake fraud accounts!" - some idiot manager who is looking at chinese letters in the database

#

(thats partly NOT a joke......)

#

why are managers such idiots sometimes? compared to the people actually doing the real jobs under them?

#

i start to worry that i will suddenly become "the idiot manager" ....

damn.... put that on a spit and roast it over a fire ! YUM!

i thought it was like mulch or something chunky

night girder

That's why everyone goes for that. To play the mind game.

charred pewter
#

you know, i was doing e-sports before it was even a thing

night girder
#

Is anyone else stoked to play Bonnie and Clyde in 2025?

charred pewter
#

a female in gta6? oh ... well now!

night girder
#

No no ...

#

way better. A couple 😄

charred pewter
#

one thing i didnt like about gta5 .... forced to play three different characters ...

night girder
#

I mean, honestly, this can be interesting. I know little games that have done this.

night girder
charred pewter
#

2 of which were boring, and 1 was ... well ... a redneck wackjob

night girder
#

Or you play one of the two and you select gender at the start.

#

and then you have to play the game twice fully (male/female) to get 100% 😄

charred pewter
#

so long as the two are playable ...

#

the three in gta5 were barely playable and annoying as hell and i couldnt get behind them at all

night girder
#

Honestly, GTA V get's shit ton of love from me. They risked new things. Some like it. Some don't. Better than becomming a stagnant franchise like... I don't know 99% of the games atm?

#

What* big game franchises innovate? I know of Zelda and GTA atm.

charred pewter
#

stagnant franchise .... you make it sound like Far Cry and Assassins Creed 😄

night girder
#

👆

#

and every sports game.

charred pewter
#

i click ignore on every sports game that pops up on steam 😉

night girder
#

Total Warhammer was a reskin of the same game 3 times.

#

CS 2. What does it add to the table?

#

And call of duty? And battlefield?

charred pewter
#

it adds +1 !

night girder
#

Oh, yeah battlefield one added ladies and more vibrant colors.

#

To make war more fun and gender neutral.

charred pewter
#

🤦

night girder
#

So in that context (big franchises aren't innovating anymore) I give GTA and Zelda love.

#

and I don't know of any other game that played out a story by telling it with 3 different characters we control.

charred pewter
#

The Cave ...

#

well, it was far more than 3 characters 😄

night girder
#

Let me look it up 😄

dusk rivet

jagged snow

Yep

night girder

voyager 1 and 2 are not the ones we send up into space.

#

The effects of space on voyager 1/2.

jagged snow
#

That's very true

#

But there is still hardware to test on

night girder
#

and sending code into space, it uses deep space relay communication or something. A network of satelites. It's just different than anything we got on the ground.

#

Like, true story. One of the voyagers had a bitflip in space.

twin dew
#

Nah, very large ground antennas.
The satellites are for just on earth orbit stuff.

jagged snow
#

It's pretty crazy tech considering how old it is at this point

night girder
#

They first had to find the bit flip. then write code to fix it up, then send that code into space. And then hope everything was alright.

#

So the voyager 2 was sending back garbage data.

charred pewter
#

checksums upon checksums to make sure the data change got there the same as they expect it too without loss/change 😄

#

bad enough packet loss on wired ground based internet ... imagine it in space

night girder

When voyager get's package from earth, it first tells the voyager to stop everything it's doing. This get's queued.

Once the voyager tasks are done. It will first test the code to see if it passes.

If the test fails, the voyager will reject the patch.

edgy hazel

Want

you can't even break them in two, since they are foldable 😦

tough owl
night girder
#

The main question I have with the foldable is still: why? I mean. What do we win?

tough owl
#

Thicker phone that’s half as long!

night girder
#

Bigger phones that fit in our pocket? But if they fold. It means they are thicker than other phones? 🤔

night girder
#

And why do we need bigger and bigger phones? How long are they going to keep doing that?

#

Untill the realize the phones are as big as ipads?

tough owl
#

honestly I think 15 pro max is perfect size phone for me

edgy hazel
#

And you can angrily close it after a bad call

tough owl

Fits in my pocket just fine and isn’t that heavy

night girder
#

Also, call me dumb but ... isn't this also a foldable phone?

charred pewter
#

my galaxy A10e is at the limit of big size for me and a phone

night girder
#

So we moved away from those foldable nokia's to smartphones.

#

to now go back to foldable 🤦‍♂️

edgy hazel
#

My s9 + is a bit bigger than I want

charred pewter
#

and now people want to go back because they realized just how good they were

night girder
#

Let's bring back keyboards to phones while we're at it.

#

And I want an antenna goddamit!

edgy hazel
#

Why do you want an antenna?

#

That's the first thing that always broke

night girder
night girder
charred pewter
#

keyboards are on smart phones already, and antennas are already in them.... so theres really no point to bring those 'back' since they just evolved to be more efficient. However the move to giant flat screens you have to try and jamb into a pocket... was never an evolution in efficient

night girder
#

but yet they bring that back. Hence my sarcasm.

charred pewter
#

foldable fits in pockets, it protects the screen when closed

night girder
#

My phone (non foldable) fits perfect in my pocket?
