to hack your phone, be it for money or power

#

ofcourse it makes it harder even if the scammer is named "Qualcomm"

#

btw steam deck provides its drivers

#

even if these may be locked blobs, they do provide the interface ones IIRC

#

now you could arg all you want
if you allow such abuses, you also allow me to sell you a calculator that can only allow you to calculate 1+3 = 4

#

unless I give you paid firmware updates

#

because you dont have access to the software

#

now I know US does not really stand against these abuses
but for instance EU hopefully does

#

but my point is : it's not a matter of choice or point of view
it's a matter of corruption or not corruption

#

if you enforce that, then they could still sell it like that but they should make it first marketing line that they only sell remote controlled 'service' interface hardware along a limited service subscription

#

and I would grab popcorn to see if in the end people will happily buy it 1500dolars

edgy hazel
#

I'm not even allowed running my Watch app on a custom OS without patching the shit out of it lmao

twin dew
#

But would need change from hyperprotection of any and all IP "rights" first.

edgy hazel
#

Rockstar still makes games?

#

Thought they switched to only periodically changing the config for exp and money gain in gta 5

dusk rivet
#

what does the psu rating even mean?

#

like 80+gold vs 80+platinum

edgy hazel
twin dew
#

Efficiency.

jagged snow
#

That's really impressive actually

#

But also mildly terrifying

dire igloo
wanton orchid
#

80 Plus (trademarked 80 PLUS) is a voluntary certification program launched in 2004, intended to promote efficient energy use in computer power supply units (PSUs).
Certification is acquirable for products that have more than 80% energy efficiency at 20%, 50% and 100% of rated load, and a power factor of 0.9 or greater at 100% load.

#

wait it changed ?
the wikipedia table show low load requirements only for Titanium

dire igloo
#

Btw, 80% efficient means that 80% of the power drawn from the socket is output to the components

#

So if you have a 100W system, 80% efficiency means 125W drawn from the wall

#

Which to some people is counter intuitive

dusk rivet
dire igloo
#

Also: this rating is not representative of a PSU's build quality.

Best example: Gigabyte P750GM and P850GM - gold rated units that literally went up in flames

wanton orchid
#

more rating usually means less reliable for same voltage

dire igloo
wanton orchid
#

what is even this
when price is discounted as percent, it also transparently applies to VAT as VAT is proportionnal

#

1 * +0.2 : 1.2
1.2 10% discount
1.2 * 0.9 = 1 * 0.9 * +0.2

#

1.08 = 1.08

dire igloo
#

You still pay the VAT

#

It's just that it's discounted by whatever amount the VAT would usually be

#

This died out fairly quickly tho

#

Cuz either you pissed of the dumb people or the smart people

dire igloo
wanton orchid
#

unless it is conditionnal offer depending of whether you are profesionnal or not
I dont see the point

#

as professionnal buyer will deduce the 0.16 VAT then

dire igloo
#

It's a marketing technique

#

"come to our store, everything is discounted"

#

And they didn't just pick some arbitrary amount, they picked the amount of VAT that'd usually be included

wanton orchid
#

just to better punch some peoples neuron activations ?

dire igloo
#

They could've discounted the 1.19€ by whatever amount they wanted

#

They just picked the 0.19€ that'd correspond to the VAT

#

So they can advertise it as "we gift you the VAT"

wanton orchid
#

the only nice similar practice I see, is making the number round with VAT

dire igloo
#

And as I already said, this died out fairly quickly

#

We had a hardware store that'd advertise with "20% off of everything - except pet food"

#

It's just whatever arbitrary number the store picks

maiden coyote
#

Nice. Told windows to update and shutdown. instead it updated and restarted and waisted 5 miuntes of my time thinking it's still updating.

dire igloo
#

And they picked these 16.whatever percent that'd correlate to what you usually paid as VAT

wanton orchid
#

I think the main problem is VAT is poorly defined for noobies and most written definitions but official ones imply it is 20% of total amount, but it's not

#

if everyone was aware that the 20% is just a handy number for professionnals and is not the actual tax it would be easier

dire igloo
#

Germany has two different tiers of VAT:
19% for basically everything
7% for basic needs like food

That's why luxury goods like caviar are 7% but bottled water or diapers are 19%

#

And it's automatically included in the price, so if you buy a bag of chips for 1.19€, you pay 1.00€ for the chips and 0.19€ VAT - which you can then deduct from tax if it's a business expense.

wanton orchid
#

I know, I was just pointing most people read VAT number as is and dont deduce the tax percentage

night girder
#

Anyone knows if there is any truth to this PSU wiring thing? 🤔

edgy hazel
#

iirc having a shitty PSU and using a cable for each header isn't a good move

#

but I might be wrong

night girder
#

I keep reading this here and there. Without any technical details. People just say: use seperate cable for each GPU header (as a fix to game crashes).

wanton orchid
#

one cable per header is the only official way
cables are rated for one header/group of header(if multple parts)

night girder
#

Seems a bit far fetched since PSU vendors delivers the cables for their PSU.

#

My PSU came with split header I believe.

#

Or was it the GPU that provided the cable.

#

Cannot remember. But it's one cable, to two headers.

jagged snow
wanton orchid
#

it usually is the GPU which provide the cable for style/cable management (but not reliability)

twin dew
wanton orchid
#

the drop could come from the psu internal lanes
each lane is made for each cable made for each headers
now ofcourse good psu have more room

twin dew
#

That rule of thumb is from the crap PSUs with too small wires that have been around.

wanton orchid
twin dew
#

For that connector, not for the cable.
If there is pigtail on good quality PSU makers cable, the cable and PSU end can take both being fully loaded.

wanton orchid
#

unless the card only really need one standard header worth of power, it's safer to use 2 cables

twin dew
#

Which is pretty trivial to archieve.

night girder
#

<CrashType>GPUCrash</CrashType> <ErrorMessage>LowLevelFatalError [File:Unknown] [Line: 715] hr failed at W:/Engine/Source/Runtime/D3D12RHI/Private/D3D12Resources.cpp:503 with error DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED with Reason: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG</ErrorMessage>

#

Some user pointed out that the crash logs contain "GPUCrash".

#

So I am (again) looking into what can be causing it.

wanton orchid
#

tldr, officially : each cables are rated for 150W
unless explicitly stated otherwise by manufacturer

twin dew
#

Nope. That is the connector rating.

night girder
#

but why do vendors go for gold rated PSU's and then just give users crappy cables. Makes no sense.

twin dew
#

And the same connector can actually do 300+W with the correct pins.

wanton orchid
night girder
#

Because a vendor put's effort in providing a quality PSU and then by giving bad cables, they undo their own good work. Makes no sense.

edgy hazel
wanton orchid
#

efficiency rating != quality

twin dew
#

Cheap pin in the connector type can do 4A, good ones do 8-10A, each.
There is 3 power and 3 ground pins in 8-pin PCIe.

AWG18 wire can do 16+A, AWG16 20+A.

wanton orchid
#

nvidia card are known to spike for instance

twin dew
#

And those are average ratings, the problem is heating.

#

When does the jacket get too hot.
The ratings are usually for 90C ambient.

#

With modular PSUs the limiting factor for using both is the PSU side connector.
Which usually then uses the 12A solid pins.

sand saddle
night girder
#

I cannot ffind who provided the cable.

charred pewter
twin dew
#

And when the wires are soldered, they go into power plane, in a clump.

#

That "don't use pigtail" is from crap PSUs using AWG20 or smaller wire.

charred pewter
#

fuck advertisers! fuck them all

twin dew
#

That is the reason why card manufacturers tell to use separate cables.
Because they are hedging when they don't know what PSU you have.

night girder
#

maybe I fucked up the cable mhm ...

charred pewter
#

any good psu shouldnt matter if its fed from one or two

#

is what people tell me

night girder
#

Yeah, just want to make sure.

wanton orchid
#

anyway the question was about "is this the good way"
and the answer is : yes it is the good way
even if apparently it's completly useless on good PSUs

#

make sure to use pigtail though to avoid card side problems

#

unless the card state that one connector is optional

night girder
#

My question was more: is this just a rumor spreading around on the internet. Or did it hold actually any truth 😛

#

and what I get from it, it seems to be a bit of both.

wanton orchid
#

👍

night girder
#

for bad PSU's, one cable with two connectors can be bad. If you got a good PSU. It shouldn't matter.

#

I also disabled surface format optimization. Just to see if that helps.

#

Just want to cut out the interactions between Adrenalin <-> Games. It's a feature that allows Adrenalin to overule texture of games, when Adrenalin thinks the textures are too demanding for the system.

Initial cybertruck reviews are out and it actually looks way better than I ever expected

(was a joke)

and phantom liberty isnt as much a dlc, but a proper "Expansion Pack" (if people recall what those used to be in the day)

Didn't play it yet. After HL, next stop is either Elden Ring. Or Baldur's Gate3 😛

#

xcom ... kind of a sucky game

#

well, i mean the first was ok, but xcom 2 sucked with all the turn and time limits

night girder
#

I think RD2 was around 540m to develop.

#

And that's Rockstar with a "godlike reputation" to get the money for their projects.

#

I have a hunch, that if Starcitizen ever get's release, that people will not be happy with it. Whatever the game offers. Because by now, the hype is so unrealistic, the expectations of the game are also unrealistic.

#

Another problem is that by the time they might release, they have outdated graphics 🤣

charred pewter
#

star wars the old republic mmo was near 600mil

night girder
#

ngl, it all seems like one big scam. Starcitizen. Just my impression of it 🤣

maiden coyote
#

10 hours to complete this file transfer D:

#

One day, it may be released. You'd think 600M would be enough to make something happen in a resonable timeframe.

charred pewter
#

you'd think

maiden coyote
#

apparently my new drives are helium filled. ):

night girder
maiden coyote
#

yeah but after 5 years of development.. wouldn't you have to scrap everything and start over due to game engine updates, or just updates to hardware and architechture in general?

night girder
maiden coyote
#

assuming you were using something like UE for your engine.

night girder
#

If you look at the features 😒

maiden coyote
#

D: helium

edgy hazel
#

starcitizen is an interesting thing. A too big project from a new company without the structure of one that can actually deliver a game like that.

maiden coyote
#

seeing laser welds on the side of the drive was neat.

edgy hazel
#

absolutely

maiden coyote
#

but for 600M you should be able to hire the talent and management you'd need x:

night girder
#

Too ambitions. MMO, with costumizeable spaceships and it's also a shooter and also an RPG and ... and ... and ... and ...

#

It sounds like every game we know, taking the best elements of it, and smash it together. Impossible I think.

jagged snow
#

It's the worlds biggest cautionary tale for feature creep, inneficient project management, timeline drag, and terrible planning

night girder
#

and meanwhile keep tricking the gamers to give them more money.

#

and at the same time, they are mucking around at the studio.

edgy hazel
#

well you can. But bad management can fuck that up horribly

#

your company can rise and fall with HR

night girder
#

Look at that list. It's only partly of what they promised at one point.

edgy hazel

When you have only watched the trailers?

night girder

I mean, if the trailer doesn't make me laugh. Isn't that a point of a trailer? Getting people warmed up for your show? A preview of what the show is about?

unless it's bad trailers ofcourse 😄

edgy hazel

Tbh I haven't watched any trailers

The first season we did a watch party with the gay people in my phone

languid gulch
#

yay new ssd got here intact

#

so for my xmas i'll get to rearrange drives & probably do a fresh OS

#

OS is still on a 250gb drive 🤣

night girder
#

I was thinking to do the same for my macbook. new year, fresh OS.

languid gulch
#

i have 9 drives plugged it atm

night girder
#

Oh my ...

languid gulch
#

ok one's a flash drive but still

night girder
#

all 250GB? hehe

languid gulch
#

lol hell no

#

just 2

night girder
#

I just think a fresh OS once in a while might be good 😄

languid gulch
#

3 of them are salvaged from old laptops

night girder
#

I can't even replace the SSD of my macbook "pro" hehe

night girder
languid gulch
#

$8 external enclosure is what got me into pc building

#

that plus dell fucking me over & me trying my hardest to improve it

night girder
#

dang, that sounds like a cheap enclosure

languid gulch
#

oh yea, one of those orico plastic ones

#

it's done shockingly well

night girder
#

for my old macbook, the last one that died, I bought an enclosure for 100+ euros because it was the only one that was compatible.

languid gulch
#

yeesh

night girder
#

fucking sucked, but atleast I was able to get my data back.

languid gulch
#

that's worth it

night girder
#

I had a backup, but once my laptop died. The backup died too 😦

#

was a bit of shit luck.

languid gulch
#

like getting a flat & finding the spare is flat too

night girder
#

So I had to retrieve the sdd from the laptop and put it in an enclosure

night girder
#

Still, I should look into a cloud solution too. But it's just so darn pricy.

languid gulch
#

yea, that might be next for me

night girder
#

like if I go for 16TB. Technically I should go for 16TB Cloud option too.

languid gulch
#

i just need to see if a NAS can handle different brands/capacities if i'm not going for raid

night girder
#

not sure what you mean

languid gulch
#

if i can just throw 2x8TB drives into a nas for 16TB instead of raid0 8TB total storage

night girder
#

Yeah, raid is optional.

languid gulch
#

i don't need the capacity right now, but i can see needing it & maybe a backup, with some kind of raid config

#

or maybe just fully duplicated drives side by side or something

night girder
#

That's what I did, raid1

#

If one disks dies, the other one is a copy.

#

When I replace the dead disks. It should automatically mirror the other one.

#

I really like raid-1 tbh. And I mostly store cold data there. So I don't need to access it a lot.

languid gulch
#

i'm using the fat storage for archive right now, not business, so it's not like it's anything critical, just a pain in the ass to rebuild

night girder
#

and to be honest, the performance isn't that bad. It can stream movies, pictures, songs, ...

#

Personally, if you go with a NAS, I would really recommend using RAID-1.

languid gulch
#

but also my case can hold another 8 drives if i really wanted it to 🤣

night girder
#

Or whatever you feel comfortable with. It reduces worries and makes life easier.

languid gulch
#

right now my biggest thought is "can i crack open the case on my external 3.5" & just slot it in next to the internal 3.5"

night girder
#

crack open? 🤨

languid gulch
#

it's one of those WD externals that plugs into the wall & then USB's in

night girder
#

oh boy, ... WD.

languid gulch
#

yea, also why i got the new ssd 🤣

night girder
#

don't have good experiences with it.

#

you sure you don't see any screws?

#

So you can remove the case and look inside without permantly damaging it? 😛

languid gulch
#

oh there are, i just meant open it

night girder
#

oh, sorry. Took it literally. Though it was one of those shitty cases that is glued together or something.

languid gulch
#

not like jimmying it open with guitar picks kind of cracking 🤣

night girder
#

I was thinking more of 🔨

#

and knowing WD 🤣

languid gulch
#

if it was absolutely dead, i might do that just for fun

night girder
#

now I am curious.

#

I wonder if they did something so you can't take out the 3.5

languid gulch
#

yea, that's why i'm mildly curious about it

night girder
#

custom format or something.

#

imagine it being soldered 🤣

languid gulch
#

or those damn melted plastic rivets

#

although to be fair, my sister recently miraculously resurrected a drive that's probably 15 years old, just plugged it in & it turned right on & acted fine

night girder
#

That's nice.

#

maybe I handled mine a bit rough 😛

languid gulch
#

at least it happened once, idk if the lube inside it is now shot

#

i know those bearings need some spinning every once in a while

night girder
#

there are labs that can recover data from dead disks, expensive as hell. I which I could do that 😛

edgy hazel
#

love this

languid gulch
#

yea, i told her to grab info off of it asap

night girder
#

they told me it can be around 600-800 euro's atleast.

#

I know you have to open the disk in a dust free environment

languid gulch
#

oh 100%, & the new ones you need to open in a helium chamber

night girder
#

mhm, ok I see. less dense gas. So less friction, vibrations, heat, and power consumption.

#

but it's really small and can pass through most materials so the encasing needs to be very well built.

#

Just watched a video about helium disks, never looked into it 🤣

maiden coyote
languid gulch
#

oh brain fart, idk how that 0 got in there

maiden coyote
#

You're thinking of Raid 1 makes one disk a copy xD

night girder
#

I said before, raid 1 is mirror

maiden coyote
#

If you can I would do raid 1

#

If either disk fails on raid 0 you lose everything

night girder
#

exactly, but with raid 1 you get less bang for your bucks. But you do get protection.

#

I mean, you sacrifice storage for safety. So if you want 16, you actually need 32TB for raid-1. Making it more expensive. Personally, I am willing to do that.

maiden coyote
#

Disks are sorta cheapish? Too me it's cheaper than cloud

night girder
#

still, if something happens to NAS and you don't have a cloud solution ...

maiden coyote
#

Lighting is a thing.

night girder
#

so is fire.

maiden coyote
#

At that point. I'm not sure it's not going to hurt any more x:

languid gulch
#

yea but at that point you also might as well have offsite backups

night girder
maiden coyote
#

Offsite is the way to go if you can.

languid gulch
#

i already have copies of important stuff on a usb in a bank box 🤣

#

like, if everything really goes to shit, it's not like there'd be nothing left

night girder
#

if you pay a bank ... you could pay for a cloud solution 🤣

languid gulch
#

eh, not in that capacity. like i said, it's not like it's business stuff. at that point, yea, i'd already be doing raid, backup, & cloud

#

plus right now it's not even being used much, it's just a capacity estimate of what i'll be doing over the next couple years

#

i've converted all the old family videos, but up next is doing hi-res photo conversions

#

been doing test runs with a 16Kdpi scanner, & the results are great, but then i saw the file sizes & how many i had to do & realized "oh fuck"

#

kinda feeling like the National Archives with some of this stuff

night girder
#

yeah have a few disks full of photos in .raw format

languid gulch
#

i mean, 300MB+ for a single 3x5 photo

night girder
#

when you start to photoshop them, the most extreme one I had was 1GB 😛

night girder
#

16K dpi hehe

languid gulch
#

i honestly wasn't expecting it

#

it makes sense, but jeez

night girder
#

yeah, it's a lot of data. The quality has to go somewhere.

languid gulch
#

i knew something was off when the scan was taking 10 minutes

night girder
#

same with movies, higher pixels, bigger file size.

#

that's why we got blu-ray, which needed a special player.

languid gulch
#

oh 100% 🤣 it's just been so long since i saw the actual pixels-to-file size conversion & how big it actually gets in raw forms

night girder
#

it's crazy 😄

#

I did photography for a few years. Filled some TB's.

languid gulch
#

& it's about 5 bookshelves worth of photos

#

so yea, easily TB

night girder
#

You got your work cut out for you.

languid gulch
#

oh yea this'll be years

#

which i'm ready for

as I am interested in space and the technology involved to get stuff and people up/out there I don't think anybody involved in those projects always is at a 100% optimistic state of mind about everything all the time and will sometimes think about all the things that can go wrong and how they will react if bad things happen...
In fact much of the effort in those projects goes to thinking about what could go wrong and how to prevent it or how to react if it happens anyway

That's true

I say that because it's expensive, for us. and if in 20 years we need to read a tape, and the drive doesn't work. you're screwed

I'm not sure dvd/BD has another 20 years of life either.

I'd expect BD to last just because streaming services can't compete with the bitrate atm

Anyone know how to disable a Bluetooth adapter that's constant connecting and disconnecttimg

#

It's soldered to my mobo

Often BIOS has toggle, but it also then disables WLAN usually.
And you can disable it in Device Manager?

sharp oasis
#

I don't have enough time to disable it

twin dew
#

And do you have BCLK overclock currently?
Or some other OC?

sharp oasis

No ocs

Exept for ram at xmp

#

I have tryed it with out xmp still no diff

twin dew
#

Desktop or laptop?

sharp oasis
#

Deaktop

#

Fuck I cannot type

twin dew
#

If desktop, it isn't soldered, it is the same M.2 as the WiFi card.

#

But the WiFi part uses PCIe and the Bluetooth uses USB.

sharp oasis
#

It's attached to the board

#

It's integrated wifi

#

/bt

twin dew
#

Those are M.2 cards.
Asus packages them into their own extra outside shell, still removable.

sharp oasis
#

Its an msi board. But I suppose I can try forcibly removing it

twin dew
#

What board?

sharp oasis
#

B450M bazooka Max wifi

#

That silver box is the wifi/by adapter

twin dew
#

So Asus style.
Screws on the other side of the board.

#

Remove those and then it will just pop away from the MB.

sharp oasis
#

Kk thx

twin dew
#

But you can check if there is just toggle to disable the bluetooth in the BIOS.

#

And the wifi card inside the shell can be replaced with any standard PCIe WiFi card.
But not the Intel CNVi ones.
So for example Intel AX210 (PCIe) will work, AX211 (CNVi) will not.

sharp oasis
#

I don't use wifi tbh so it's just gonna be removed

twin dew

But anyways, that is just one of these, inside enclosure with board having M.2 slot that has the card pointing up:

“We have just released a paper that allows us to extract several megabytes of ChatGPT’s training data for about two hundred dollars”

The CPU path was just really crap compile with possible intentional roadblocks to performance.
Once studios started to not use PhysX because it only working on Nvidia GPUs, the CPU path was fixed magically.

As there were other options.

charred pewter

sounds legit

twin dew

At least "use only x87 FP math", and possibly compiled without any compiler optimizations, etc.

narrow folio

a bit like mathematica and better compiled path for intel cpus that when forced to be used (hacked) on amd made amd cpus calulate way faster

twin dew
#

Yeah, Intel Math Library has for long time had first check that CPU is Intel or not.
If not, use worst path, if Intel, check for command set support and use best that the CPU can support.

#

Even when the same command set checking would just work with AMD CPUs too.

#

If specific CPUID string is "Genuine Intel" then do sane things, if not, do insane crappy things.
For Intel developed compiler in that case, but same has been case for any Intel provided libraries like their Advanced Math Library (AML)

#

Which has traditionally been used by lot of number crunching software.

Or Math Kernel Library (MKL) since 2017?

narrow folio

matlab implemented a workaround, yeah

twin dew

Workaround literally is jumping over the single check IIRC.

By editing the machine code.

was implemented in mathlab in version 2020a

Is MS going to find a way to force Copilot and other AI stuff to be as slow as dirt on anything without a dGPU or AI chip as a way to get people off old PCs?

#

I just realized that could be a Windows 12 thing, just like 11 had its arbitrary hardware line in the sand.

night girder
sharp oasis
night girder
#

And we all know that this is a fallacy. Since there is always an attack vector.

gilded helm
#

Have I ranted again in here lately about how software updates cause more productivity loss than malware 😦

night girder
#

but I don't think they will do that for "AI". Why would you lock AI behind hardware requirements?

#

You want people to warm up for it, not be turned off.

#

I think the first implementation (that constumers will get their hands on) of their AI will be very basic and not require any special hardware.

#

Next step is to add a subscription to it.

gilded helm
#

What I imagine is Windows 12 will have the same sorts of annoying pops ups that you get now trying to get you to use OneDrive and Edge. "Your computer sucks at AI! Buy a new one!" If you don't have either a dGPU or AI chip. This would mostly affect older iGPUs.

night girder
#

By then we are 10 years later, and then the next step is to lock it behind hardware hehe

night girder
#

And not start with 3 😄 (hardware requirements)

#

and again, I don't think the AI they are making will need special hardware anyway.

gilded helm
#

They already own people though. The worst case would be they stay on Windows 10/11 and ignore the annoying pop ups to buy a new machine, the same as they ignore the prompts to use OneDrive.

night girder
#

Yeah, I agre. I don't get prompts for OneDrive though.

night girder
#

but on my old system, there was a setting that showed me that my PC was crap and I couldn't upgrade to 11 because of my hardware hehe

They reverted it.

Right, but they've been creeping crap like this into Windows, and it's getting worse year after year. Hence the need for the EU version of Windows 😛

Updating drivers is one of the more easier things to do when you are facing issues/crashes, so that's why a lot of people recommend that. Low hanging fruit solution.

cobalt ivy
#

it is just odd some days it will run all day no issue other days it will fight me all day with this same crash

night girder
#

Yeah, can be annoying. Once you did what Fight or Flight asked, you should be able to get help.

cobalt ivy
#

sorry im new what did he recommend i checked game files checked gpu drivers is there something im missing? and if im in the wrong thread ill move over to where i need to be dont want to be a pest

Wow, visiting other discord communities makes me really appreciate this channel.

dire igloo
#

Tempting

#

Nah, this place is great

night girder
#

🤣

#

I think it's just the laziness of the moderators (the other discord community).

#

Just created a ticket. Let's see how long it will take before they pick it up.

#

In this community, they respond pretty quick 😒

dire igloo
night girder
#

Because they keep a clean ship? 😄

dire igloo
#

Unless discussion drifts off into politics again

night girder
#

I was just thinking about it. The community I am speaking off, it feels like the moderators gave up of getting rid of the bad apples.

#

And it seems to be wild-west right now. They have rules like: if you post a self-promo video. Do it in the self-promo channel. But people spam it wherever they want 🤣

#

And then people are spamming +18 discord channels too.

dire igloo
#

I'm still trying to find a good way of annoying and getting rid of trolls without admin permissions or similar

night girder
#

So people can't create another account that easily.

dire igloo
#

PCPP discord usually has the occasional "iS tHiS a GoOd bUiLd?!" people which are easy to come by by making their builds worse

night girder
#

Also having a whitelist solves the spam problem in the wrong channels.

#

Just don't let people post urls in example: music-theory channel.

dire igloo
#

And there's those that spread misinformation - works well to treat them like they know everything and ask them to provide further info (ideally play dumb too)

night girder
#

But I enter music theory channel and I see big buttocks of a lady (18+ discord link). Wtf?

dire igloo
#

Just be that super annoying guy that every CS rep wants to get rid of

dire igloo
#

He deleted it before the mods could

#

Guy in the video didn't even manage to behead that women, they had to keep hacking

night girder
#

I once had someone DM me hentai by accident. They did ctrl+v, but the image was still in their clipboard. They were able to delete their message pretty quickly.

#

But not quick enough for me to take a screenshot of it 🤣

dire igloo
#

Posted it in a memes channel too, I thought there was some joke coming

night girder
night girder
dire igloo

idk, server owner probably pulled logs and reported the guy

It's a public community server of a German streamer

dire igloo

Yeah, but do you know what happens when we click on the three little dots of a message -> report message?

You need to spend more time on r/datahorder until you can find it

night girder
#

Nah, I found the screenshot.

#

But I need to clean up my NAS a bit more, it wasn't in the discord screenshot folder 😦

maiden coyote

I think I'm going to build a second nas with all the old drives i have and raid 0 all of them

Ltt pen when

winged valley
#

ltt screwdriver is nice but that's probably the only ltt thing i'll own

#

Their ongoing controversy with the one girl gives me even less reason to buy their stuff just to buy it

sharp oasis
#

It's still going?

wanton orchid
#

what

#

another controversy ?

winged valley
#

Last I checked its still going

winged valley
# wanton orchid another controversy ?

At the same time as their data validation scandal there was also an ex employee starting a lawsuit against them for workplace bullying among other things

#

ltt has not made any statements on it other than "yeah we know this is a thing and we're working on it kbye"

#

(Not the actual quote)

wanton orchid
#

wasn't the screwdriver thing having some bullshit around too ?

sharp oasis
#

The data validation scandal was resolved and I'd say decently.

winged valley
#

Never heard anything about the screwdriver

night girder
#

Not sure what came out of it 🤷‍♂️

sharp oasis
#

So it's being handled. I assume

winged valley
sharp oasis
#

What else must they say

winged valley
#

If its been resolved I would've expected the girl to have said it was resolved

#

What with how angry she was publicly being

sharp oasis
#

It could be ongoing.

night girder
#

Looking at LTT subscribers, it seems the damage was minimal.

winged valley
#

Most likely ongoing, and while I'll support them by watching their content, I'm not going to sub to floatplane or buy their merch (unless they make something actually good that I actually need like the screwdriver)

night girder
#

They took a hit, but seemed to recover.

sharp oasis
#

I'm too broke to buy their merch

winged valley
#

If you do a lot of phyiscal work on electronics I highly recommend the screwdriver

#

Anything else, nah

sharp oasis
#

I have a bunch of manual sized screwdrivers for my pc

#

They work

night girder
#

there are other alternatives for the screwdriver from LTT

winged valley
#

There are cheaper alternatives, and I have never used them so I cannot make any judgements

#

I have used my dad's very bulky and very heavy ratcheting screwdriver, which while it seems to work fine, like I said its heavy and it has half the bit storage as the LTT as well as too short of a shaft for finger action

jagged snow
#

My experience woth ratcheting screwdrivers has been that anything but a high quality driver isn't worth using

#

If the ratchet is anything worse than excellent I'd rather just have a good quality regular driver

winged valley
#

I haven't used enough of a variety to make this call, but from using it I'd say the ratchet on the LTT is pretty good

sharp oasis
#

I just have some cheap carbide bit drivers and they do okay

jagged snow
winged valley
#

You're not really the target demographic so it makes sense

sharp oasis
#

Just whenever I need to take someth apart

#

They allow me to have enough hand torque to take it out. Precision screwdrivers suck as I can't turn them most of the time on tighter screws

winged valley
winged valley
#

That way you have leverage

#

They're big tho and pretty expensive

jagged snow
winged valley
#

I don't use the big one on small stuff because of its weight

jagged snow
#

I do a mix of snall electronics and then just general screwdriver stiff, so I'd probably prefer the full sized driver

winged valley
#

If you ever do get the LTT, you should honestly just wait for the launch of the noctua edition ones since they're limited but the same price

#

That way if you don't like it, you can resell it

jagged snow
#

I don't like the noctua color scheme though

winged valley
#

Fair enough

maiden coyote
#

I like the ifixit kit I have. if I need anything that fancier I use this

winged valley
#

Don't tighten with that

dusk rivet
#

just give all the bolts a couple ugga dugga's, it'll be fine

maiden coyote
#

and if that's not strong enough, I've got this

dusk rivet
#

what is "torque spec"

#

surely it's not important

jagged snow
maiden coyote
# winged valley Don't tighten with that

I use it to tighten all the time. it's about spending enough time using your tools that you know how much torque you're applying by the way it sounds and how hard you're squeezing the trigger

dusk rivet
sharp oasis
maiden coyote
#

torque spec is when the bolt breaks

dusk rivet
#

that's when you just weld it back on and keep tightening

#

it's only tight enough when god himself comes down from the heavens to tell you to stop

maiden coyote
#

Only ever broken self tappers going into steel beams. I've taken off lugnuts with the small one.

#

and broke them with the 1/2" lol

jagged snow

The 1/2in makita impact is great

#

Hello people smarter than me, I need help chosing a new pc

#

One cost ~$860 usd and has an Intel I5-10400F, an H510 Gigabyte for motherboard, an Rtx 3050 8g Galax, 16Gb of RAM and a 500Gb SSD Kingston for storage

#

And the other one cost ~$930 usd and the only difference it thas this one has an Intel I5-12400F and a B660 Bigabyte for motherboard

#

any answer is welcome

dusk rivet
#

they both are overpriced

#

like the parts for the first one is like 720usd

#

140usd just to have someone build it for you when it’s super easy to assemble

#

motherboards rarely affect performance to any noticeable degree

#

so the real question is, do you wanna spend 70usd more for a better cpu

#

there’s also the option of assembling your own pc, and getting better parts for the same price

#

what kind of games do you play?

#

or if you don’t play games, what would you mostly use the pc for

#

@mossy linden

mossy linden
#

both games and studying

dusk rivet
#

next key question to answer would be what kind of games, examples would be great

mossy linden
dusk rivet
#

quite the variety

#

cpu would help with lategame satisfactory, i know that for sure
