Basically means that some version of the chip is in low rate production and is being sent to partners etc. outside the manufacturer for testing in prototype products etc.
To see if it is actually ready for mass production or not.

#

And for the partners to be able to check their designs and verify their part, so that once the mass production starts, the actual usage can also start quickly.

#

And if you are doing chip swap for LPDDR, you would probably need to check the current chip used, and use one in same lineup with higher capacity.

#

If possible.

#

Or the exact chip used in the "More RAM" version of the complete thingie.

winged valley
twin dew
#

When all the versions of it are still in CS?
Probably not.

winged valley
#

Then the one my board came with is the highest capacity in its series

twin dew
#

What is the current ones code then?

winged valley
#

So long as I match the voltage specifications and the pinout, at worst I'd have to edit the UEFI

winged valley

twin dew
#

The pages might be out of date.

winged valley
twin dew
#

Or Lenovo(?) started production with the sample amounts.

#

For some specific model.

winged valley
#

Intel 12th gen so very beginning of ddr5 pretty much

twin dew
#

So probably Hynix again forgetting to update their pages.

winged valley
#

And like, nobody has this laptop so I can't find a schematic anywhere. And a schematic/engineering PDF would probably tell me what chip is used in the 32GB model

#

I'll have to check again but I looked at the underside of the board and didn't find any extra sets of pads

twin dew
#

All the three capacities are CS on the Hynix site.
So probably just never updated.

#

The site has seemed to be left unmaintained before too.

edgy hazel
#

Maybe it's the difference between having smart access memory on or off?

dire igloo
#

That small spike down is indeed weird

edgy hazel
#

Mine has one too but more famous

#

It must be a setting or something that a lot of people don't toggle on/off

#

Maybe XMP?

twin dew
#

Or like I said, the difference in clocks between the "Stock" models and "OC" models?

dire igloo
#

Meant this one

edgy hazel
#

That's the switch from one bench to the other

dire igloo
#

Ah alr

twin dew
#

For 7900XT, from Asus, there is:
Reference rebrand with 1500/2025/2394 core clocks, 2500 memory clock and 300W TDP.
Base model with 1500/2025/2394 core clocks, 2500 memory clock and 300W TDP.
OC model with 1687/2129/2499 core clocks, 2500 memory clock and 300W TDP.

ASRock has reference, 2450 and 2560 OC models.
So on.

#

For almost any GPU there are the stock models at reference model clocks, and then the OC models with raised clocks.
And the OC models are usually the more numerous.

#

And 3DMark doesn't seem to differentiate.

edgy hazel
#

Yeah but that'd mean that almost half of the 7900xt are stock cards

#

Which I find a bit difficult to believe

dire igloo
#

Stock or OC with background stuff

#

What's with the plateau around the 32k mark?

#

I reckon the bump at 34k-35k is from OC people

edgy hazel
#

I really wanna try mixing normal thermal paste and liquid metal and see what happens

languid gulch
#

probably some kind of alchemical goop that'd end up being worse than peanut butter for thermal conductivity

edgy hazel
languid gulch
#

i suspect it's similar to mixing engine oil. it's not going to average out

twin dew
#

Worse, as oils will mostly blend into somewhat uniform mixture.
Paste and liquid metal will not I expect.

dusk rivet
#

liquid metal is mostly for direct die cooling isn’t it?

tribal kraken
#

Works with IHS too but not much gains

dusk rivet
#

IHS?

tribal kraken
dusk rivet
#

i only ever heard it called the lid, didn’t know it had a more proper name

#

google was uniquely unhelpful in the meaning of the acronym

tribal kraken
#

I did run EK waterblock for a while where I had liquid metal between die and IHS, and between IHS and waterblock too

narrow folio
#

I'm thinking about getting a kryosheet, which should work 'forever'. I only saw videos about it and it's looking very flimsy to apply

dusk rivet
#

atp do direct die

tribal kraken
#

Just dont get the EKWB Intel LGA1700 kit, so much problems with. Allthough it now is running in my system

wide void

but yeah, I'll be trying it next time I pull the rig apart

lol

sand saddle
#

Even if some of their products are good, they're overpriced. Usually not even their own and just rebranded good products.

sand saddle
#

So if you're overclocking with a custom loop, might as well use liquid metal. Though I usually say when you're making a custom loop, might as well direct die.

Honey, wake up, new Chrome vulnerability just dropped:
CVE-2023-6345

mental oriole
#

Fun.

sterile plinth
#

yep, thats why it makes no sense

#

HOW TO REPRODUCE:

  1. do ctrl+shift+c and choose any message with a reply to it
  2. right click the element and click use in console
  3. go to console and do temp0.getElementsByClassName("markup_a7e664 messageContent__21e69")
charred pewter
#

did you try it with document.getElementsByClassName instead of temp0 ?

#

oh wait, is this the devtools inside Discord? i wonder if they have a broken implementation 😄

ctrl-shift-c doesnt do much for me on Mac Discord it seems

mental oriole
twin dew

The Spotify shuffle is very bad.
If the playlist is too long it doesn't seem to even consider everything, and in many cases if the program is shut down and restarted, it returns to "start" of the shuffle and plays same stuff again.

Shuffle has steadily gotten worse

The Shuffle I mean.

jagged snow

Yeah, anything over 1k songs seems to completely break it

twin dew

Need to disable and enable the shuffle from time to time, when I notice it starting to repeat...

Which is pretty weird when in theory the shuffle should be from over thousand hours of music...
Got to 223h for bands starting with A-D

dire igloo
#

I love how we as humans attribute randomness to an even distribution.

If four songs of the same artist play after one another we assume it's not shuffled properly - when in reality, clustering is just in the nature of randomizing.

#

Notice how there are replied text markup class elements?

charred pewter
#

so?

sterile plinth

but those replied markups ALSO have the 2 classes you want

charred pewter
#

it STILL matches the two classes i am looking for

sterile plinth
charred pewter
#

bro, do you ? 😄

sterile plinth
charred pewter
#

"BOTH" ... not "ONLY"

sterile plinth
#

It needs to match BOTH the classes, not one of them

proud ivy
#

<div class="a b c d">. document.getElementsByClassName("a") will return that div

#

it IS matching both

charred pewter
#

this div has "BOTH" the two classes I looked for: div#message-content-1179441926223691806.repliedTextContent__75526.markup_a7e664.messageContent__21e69

#

(as well as some other class, which doesnt matter)

#

if you want to find "ONLY" the elements that contain those two classes, you have to then foreach the first result and filter out the ones that have more classes in them

#

btw this is what i used:

#

and div#message-content-1179441926223691806.repliedTextContent__75526.markup_a7e664.messageContent__21e69 matches up just fine ... it has both those classes in it

#

out of the 61 matches it found, all of the rows contain both those classes

#

im not trying to be ornery, im just saying im not getting results that DONT have both the classes im looking for .... i could fire up firefox and see if its a firefox issue .... but i dont have that on this machine right now

proud ivy
#

his results are the same - he's just thinking it returns elements that are exclusively those two classes. And then he also expanded the element and saw the children that were part of the objects that were returned. So it's just a lack of clarity of what's actually being returned.

charred pewter
#

i do admit ... console results can sometimes be 'buzzy' with info ... espcially when you start flipping open prototype

#

but im basically in console almost daily fiddling and twiddling css/html ... god, i cant recall the days where "inspect" didnt exist! we had to trial n error/upload new files over and over reloading till something finally looked right LOL

#

but then, we really didnt HAVE css back then either... it was html2.0

#

sterile plinth
proud ivy
#

get the list of the ones that do have both. then since you know they have the 2 you want, you can just do a foreach and only return the ones with exactly 2 classes. there's probably an element.GetClasses method that returns an array of classes. So document.GetElementsByClassName("class1 class2").foreach(el => el.GetClasses().Length == 2). something like that. my javascript a little rusty but at least that's pseudo code (each object in your first array is going to an HTMLElement or something like that, which will have its own protype functions). HtmlElement might even just have a property already with an array of classes, so could just be el.Classes.length. Etc

#

if foreach doesn't work, filter might. would work similary. array.filter(x => x.field == 2) returns an array of objects that matched that filter. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6].filter(x => x > 4) returns [5, 6]

charred pewter
#

OR ...... you can just include jquery and all of this would be fucking easier

OR maybe not, seems even jquery doesnt have a built in that is "must match and only match these classes"

i always include jquery though, because im sick to death of vanilla javascript these days.... i got so spoiled on jquery, theres simply no going back now

Hi

night girder
#

Baldur, is this enough you think?

twin dew
#

Depends how much RAM you have and what you do.
When you run out of both RAM and Swap, the computer or program crashes.

#

Until that point it doesn't matter.

night girder
#

I am still investigating the crashes. They did change. I no longer get driver errors or crashes/restarts. Now the game just crashes with other errors. When investigating. One of the solutions they recommend is setting higher file page. The screenshot you see is default (managed by Windows). I wonder if I should try upping the vram to see if I can get hogwrts stable. The error it throws is rather ... I don't know ... generic?

#

<ErrorMessage>LowLevelFatalError [File:Unknown] [Line: 715] hr failed at W:/Engine/Source/Runtime/D3D12RHI/Private/D3D12Resources.cpp:503 with error DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED with Reason: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG</ErrorMessage>

#

This is the solution, this leggit?

twin dew
#

Old things in a way.
Old suggestion ages ago was to set Swap to 1-2x RAM.
I had to set it to 50GB because some game had memory leaks for example.

#

But high swap can postpone or prevent some crashes.

night girder
#

Any drawbacks of a high swap?

twin dew
#

Just takes disk space

night girder
#

More IO to ssd?

#

well doesn't sound like it can hurt.

narrow folio

I have mine on HDD.

night girder
#

I just want to stop crashing to desktop 🤣 I am happy it's not a full PC crash

narrow folio
#

night girder
#

I doubt it's memory though, I was only playing for 2-3 minutes. So cannot be a memory leak.

#

And yesterday it happened 3-5 times. But the days before that I had driver crashes. Pretty crazy how it just changes. One thing is for sure. Hogwarts is pretty shitty optimized 🤣

#

and it crashed during a race. I just did exact same race without a crash.

wanton orchid
#

wanton orchid
#

#

Testmem5 absolut config is a pretty nice tool for stability testing if you don't want to run shit for days

wanton orchid
#

the amount of stuff where it does not tell you if windows unallocate it or you are supposed to unallocated it yourself is completely ill

#

if it is thread safe or not

#

etc

#

too often even microsoft does not know, and it changes with updates

night girder
wanton orchid
#

current software best practices are a huge pile of shit

sand saddle
#

Ah wait you got ddr5

#

Absolut was mads for ddr4 and might not be as effective with ddr5

twin dew
#

Doesn't really matter.
Just about different access patterns.

#

The different IMCs make bigger difference than the basic tech.

#

In how they actually interleave what the code asks into actual memory bus traffic, and that changes with timings too.

wanton orchid
#

isnt ddr5 designed to make imc take over more thing and have more information about the chip behavior

#

only enforcing stuff that is known to work better in almost all cases

#

I mean more training, feedback, bank management, rank management, command interleaving things

twin dew
#

Always has been purely IMC side.

wanton orchid
#

that's the point

twin dew
#

DRAM chips are DUMB.
The latencies are just IMC waiting and hoping that the DRAM chips get things done, because there is no feedback.

wanton orchid
#

as it's expected

#

in the end ram chips are ram chips

#

I think expo certification also profit amd imc u-code teams

sand saddle
#

Some people like the tm5 1usmus config, but honestly seems like absolut might still be the king of tm5 configs rn

wanton orchid
#

I like that amd bios let you check some memory interleaving behaviors
I hate that these settings even though exposed are largely undocumented

night girder
#

I hate it, that when a game crashes and create an error report. You are non the wiser.

#

And all those "fixes" you read on the internet, are just people gambling and hoping something works without actually knowing what is going on.

charred pewter
#

and half of them are not really the fix, but something else happened at the time where they thought it was fixed because they did something else

wanton orchid
#

and even when it's "the fix" it's just workaround most of the time

#

like "you have issues with virtualization ? : easy, install the system on bare hardware" waw such helpfull "tip"

charred pewter
#

hehe "reinstall from scratch, exclude modules, and remove the things you actually need" ...

night girder
#

Like when searching for my problem, I have found solutions like: disable MPO, increase RAM, do something in the registry hehe , disable upscaling, disable AA, update drivers, ...

charred pewter
#

thats about what i ran across just the other day trying to find an answer why apache2 was suddenly segfaulting for no damned good reason

#

yup, for games its basically : every setting there is, someone says changing that setting fixes the problem

twin dew
#

Disabling MPO is legit bypass to misbehaving overlays, but nothing else.

wanton orchid
#

this is especially not usefull tip when they ask you to reinstall, but does not ask you to reinstall "using that check"
because then you end up reinstalling in the same faulty way or worse
not everyone seek to improve install process everytime they do it

charred pewter
#

"i switched to nvidia and the problem went away!"
"i changed to my amd and the problem stopped!"

night girder
#

and I like the one to the right, so I can see my temps etc.

but there is no way to only disable a few. It's all or nothing.

twin dew
#

Point is that the overlays mostly work without the MPO, when they are "independent".

night girder
#

Also, one can question. If the overlay of AMD works perfect with RD2. Why not for HL?

charred pewter
#

if its all or nothing, why are they not all on just one overlay ?

night girder
#

Why does overlay play nice with certain games, and doesn't with others?

#

Is it the games fault? Or AMD? 🤔

charred pewter
#

game

twin dew
#

And it might not be relevant to this case.

#

Just why it is sometimes "legit" bypass.

night girder
charred pewter
#

it'd be like steam putting each panel on a seperate overlay lol, could you imagine that?

twin dew
#

Disabling MPO just changes the OS to work "legacy" way.

night girder
#

The MPO fix sounds very dubious tbh. I rather do the page file thing.

#

Also, HL only takes 18GB out of the 32GB 😒

charred pewter
#

i never fiddled with my page file size

night girder
#

How much you have Frigid?

twin dew
#

Would need to check another thing.
Task Manager etc. by default only shows one kind of RAM usage.

charred pewter
#

hogwarts actually never crashed on me through 110 hours of play

night girder
#

Also when did you play? Frigid?

charred pewter
#

i have 32gb ram

night girder
#

Because I read that a patch actually created some issues.

charred pewter
#

jut recently? like ... uh, when did i finally finish it ....

night girder
#

Ok, but then again, I am AM5. Different beast than whatever you got running 😄

wanton orchid
#

I mean there only one kind of ram or two that matters for user :
hardware ram usage, and total (with swap) ram usage

charred pewter
#

end of october seems to be when i finished the game

night girder
#

if it doesn't crash today. The page thing was actually a leggit fix 🤣

#

yesterday it crashed atleast 3 times. Wait let me check

wanton orchid
#

page thing ?

charred pewter
#

and yes im on intel cpu/mb ... ddr5 ram not like that should matter

twin dew
#

Increasing fixed swap from just 2GB to much higher.

night girder
charred pewter
#

sheesh

night girder
#

Yup 😄

#

I mean, it was worse. My whole rig crashed 😛

#

but then I did that AMD clear shader thing and I think that solved it.

charred pewter
#

the last patch notes i see for hogwarts .... is june 2nd ?

wanton orchid
#

it always sounds stupid to me that when game shaders or drivers updates it does not automatically resets EVERY FUCKING shader cache
like how the fuck do you think it will behave like new when you only process old stuff ?

charred pewter
#

it was because i hadnt seen any new patches since jun that i decided 'welp, they arnt going to do anymore fixes... time to play'

wanton orchid
#

"we fixed it, but it will not apply if you dont do that thing" why

charred pewter
#

for me, everytime i launch hogwarts, it rebuilds shaders for about a minute or two ....

night girder
#

Why the hell don't they do a clear after a driver update. Seems like a nice way to do it.

charred pewter
#

geezus steam on mac is shit ... i tell it to quit, and then it goes brain dead, 'unresponsive' for five minutes, then crashes. well.... i guess it did quit afterall .... lol

night girder
#

but now I noted for myself, whenever AMD updates. I will do a clear manually to be sure.

night girder
#

The first time it should take long. Then it should be seconds.

#

Unless you system resets the cache everytime or something. Not sure how it all works.

charred pewter
#

it does .... only game i have that has done that. every.... single... time.... i launched it

night girder
#

Yeah that's a bug Frigid. I read it on steam.

charred pewter
#

well, least the game didnt crash on me 😄

dire igloo
night girder
charred pewter
#

lol

night girder
#

and the auto-save in this game is really legit.

#

I never lost any progress due the crashes.

charred pewter
#

it saves after any change to character

#

pick up something, saves, open lock, saves, enter new area, saves

night girder
#

also you are right.

#

hogsmaede is pain to FPS. I ran at 100+ but in hog it goes to 30 and lower 🤣

#

and one of the beast places, the dark one also wrecks my FPS. The forest and beach beast places are ok.

charred pewter
#

i forget which Far Cry i was recently playing where everytime i walked over something like ammo or arrows (which auto-pickup) arrows especially, since i was shooting them into things then running over them to get the arrow back .... the game would jerk

#

turns out it was cause it was auto-saving every character change (which happens when you pick up ONE arrow)... for every damned arrow all over the field of battle

#

i had decent fps in hogsmede and the castle... but i suffered 'npc caused hiccups' ... the more npc in the area, the worse they got, hogsmede during the day was painful

night girder
#

A combination of the following: a fun game, on newer technology (AM5?) and by a newish development company - make me not really be bothered by it. It's not that it makes me want to write a negative review. Weirdly 😒

charred pewter
#

hogwarts?

night girder
charred pewter
#

i think its generally overall a fantastic game .... but some people get hit hard with worse problems in it

#

yeah, i had everything turned up except the pointless RT

night girder
charred pewter
#

well .... i had fun in the 110 hours i spent, and got 100% everything 😄 and it didnt feel like the kind of grind/bleah/whatever of like assin creed/far cry/batman/mordor games

night girder
#

I expected more depth? There is so much depth to the world of JK rowling and they barely use any of it? And they are afraid to write their own stuff about the world. Should it conflict with the real lore.

#

So it's written by people who don't use the old lore, don't want to fuck up the lore by creating new lore, so we get this game that plays it very safe. On all departments.

night girder
charred pewter
#

well, i guess i wasnt THAT big of a HP fan to notice

#

i enjoyed the movies ... the game was similiar ...

#

it had a generally nice story, and flow .... doing random things on the side as i wander the contry side trying to find an objective ...

#

no minimap, and no guides, makes for a better "non waypoint grinder" game 😄

night girder
#

I agree. But I would give it a 7-8 (good) and not a 9-10 (excellent) out of 10. Just me 😉

#

I am looking forward for the next instalment, if they can learn and keep improving. This might be a good franchise in the making.

charred pewter
#

it definitely could be, i mean, even Lego makes hogwarts stuff ....

#

so long as they learn from any mistakes, and take reviews in on what really didnt work (merlins trials ahem) ...

#

thing is, after finding ALL of the merlins trials, you dont get anything special for completeing them all =p

#

spoiler? sorry

charred pewter
#

oh, right

#

i thought that popped when you did the guide book requirements

#

but theres more trials than the final guide book item

#

maybe they added so many, so that you dont have to do them all, and hunt the all down

#

but the completionist in me is like 'theres more out there... DO THEM ALLLLLL"

night girder
#

There was an interesting article, where a developer said that Starfield failed, because it became the industry standard. And I have to agree. Bethesda is stagnating in innovation. Using their same "success recipe" to all their games. And now fallout, elder scrolls have become the standard of the industry. So when they released Starfield, it got average reviews. Because it's... a standard game.

#

Also, Starfield developers are fighting their costumers who leave negaive reviews hehe

charred pewter
#

lol

night girder
#

Delusional company.

#

They forget that astronauts were not bored on the moon because they had a shit ton of scientific tasks to complete.

charred pewter
#

clearly they put a lot of effort and heart into the game (in their standards) ... and just get very offended by the fickle and picky bitchy gamers of today

night girder
#

You think gamers are fickle and picky bitches?

charred pewter
#

oh yes

night girder
#

Because they critique bethesda of using a 20 year old engine? Wtf?

charred pewter
#

even games 20 years ago are still fun...

jagged snow
charred pewter
#

games do NOT "need" RT or fancy whatnots bs that most are not even going to pay attention too if the actual gameplay is fun

night girder
#

Ok, then riddle me this.

charred pewter
#

(and im not saying starfields gameplay is fun)

night girder
#

I am such a bitchy gamer. Why do some games blow me away and others just outright suck?

#

If I don't know what fun is in games?

jagged snow
#

There was somebody in #satisfactory yesterday that was incredibly upset that the grass shadows were slightly pixelated.

night girder
#

Or maybe the games just outright suck, and people glorify crappy games? 😄 We can flip this argument.

charred pewter
#

its in general .... i see so many negative reviews and negativity around new games because people are comparing pixels of still images and whining that something doesnt look perfect. and im shaking my head and going "well whats the actual gameplay like?"

jagged snow
night girder
#

But maybe games are just more copy/pasta then they used to be?

#

You know the % of games output every year is WAY bigger than the old days?

charred pewter
#

and then theres THAT issue .... "creativity" ....

#

when in a world where so much has been created, its hard for new people to create new things when its all almost already been done before

jagged snow
charred pewter
#

its why tv and movies are suffering too

#

games, tv, movies, all rehashes because no one has any innovation or new ideas 😦

night girder
#

I don't want another assassins creed, or far cry, or fifa games, or tekken, or street fighter or mortal combat. Or NFL. The games innovation is 0.

#

The only games that get on my radar have to be fun AND innovating.

charred pewter
#

although..... a reskin far cry in star wars makeup sounds fun ... (not innovative)

night girder
#

I have watched starfield.

#

And I can see that it's the exact same game they made.

charred pewter
#

i have played starfield

night girder
#

Just in space. Without a horse.

#

And Bethesda has to be one of the mast experienced gaming companies today.

charred pewter
#

and its exactly the same thing, but in a 'new' engine that cant even handle itself on modern hardware

night girder
#

so I hold them in high regards (and so do others).

charred pewter
#

if they used a 20 year old engine, it should be performing so much better

night girder
#

it's the same engine I think frigid.

#

The Creation Engine 2.0 brings major upgrades to graphics, AI, physics, and visuals. It uses the Havok engine for character and NPC animation, resulting in lifelike simulations. Bethesda is enhancing radiant AI for dynamic environments, especially in cities, to create more dynamic interactions between NPCs and the world.

charred pewter
#

even 5 yo games run crazy smooth ... because they dont have all that pointless crap in them bogging them down 😄

night girder
#

Here, read that PR crap. I know AI is non existence in Starfierld.

#

Shoot your gun in a town and nobody bats an eye.

charred pewter
#

lol

#

the AI only applies to specific npcs who are in a specific fight with you

#

not every npc all over the place ... sadly

night girder
#

It's just what bethesda has become. When they talk, they overexaggerate. Then they release a mediocre product at best.

charred pewter
#

oh, yeah, i dont dismiss that at all

night girder
#

Ah, sorry didn't want to turn this into a shitfest on bethesda. The point I actually was making.

charred pewter
#

whomever did the publicity for NoMansSky before launch, went to work for bethesda 😄

night girder
#

If Bethesda had released Hogwarts, I might have been more critical then the current developers 😄

#

because you know, experience does matter to me. Indie studio vs 3xA.

charred pewter
#

true

#

i think even NPCs in hogwarts react to you running into them, better than NPCs in starfield

night girder
#

Isn't that sad?

charred pewter
#

indeed

night girder
#

Imagine the amount of moneys and experience Bethesda made 😦

charred pewter
#

and the massive team they had

night girder
#

If they were truelly a gamers company, they would release better products.

#

and I believe this for every gaming company.

charred pewter
#

i just wish they would get off the business model of "modders will fix it, we dont need to do anything"

jagged snow
wide void
charred pewter
#

sad huh 😦

night girder
charred pewter
night girder
#

"What if the developers aren't stressing, because they are in a good position in life right now? Stable income. Have a job. Once they finished the game then ..."

#

I know. It's a little bit of an evil assumption. But I was just wondering why it's taking so long 🙂

wide void
#

I've probably done 200 hours in Starfield, is it flawless and peerless? no, but its still good fun

night girder
#

Like nobody asked for UE5. And if they keep changing the engine.

wide void
#

I can't see I'll replay it as much as other Beth titles though

night girder
#

and you had to hop over every planets since you don't have any vehicles. Haha. Sorry messing with you.

wide void
#

most of it was goofing about with ships, I loved that part

night girder
#

Glad you enjoyed it 😄

jagged snow
night girder
#

Ok, that part does indeed look interesting. The ship building.

wide void
#

peak Starfield, lol

night girder
#

Apparantly, Bethesda was planning for players to have a space station to costumize and build in.

wide void
#

yeah, I didn't use any mods, as they tend to break more shit than they fix in the first few weeks

night girder
#

Imagine you are testing a car for 3 years. And they then replace the brakes and engine. You know you going to have to retest the car for another 3 years.

#

By then they have a newer engine etc. It's dumb.

jagged snow
#

Yep

night girder
#

I still think they are wasting time on purpose for job safety.

jagged snow
#

I will be upset if they delay much more than another 6 months

#

Since the game is nearing feature-completeness

night girder
#

Someone once said to me that having no stress is not good. Having too much stress is also not good. You need to have the right amount of stress to keep pushing you.

#

But if you don't have any goals / end-dates then you have no stress.

jagged snow
#

If I had to guess, they're having to stall for time while waiting on story content and that's why they've been moving slow

night girder
#

But this is just me making big assumptions.

maiden coyote
#

I'm just happy they care.

night girder
#

It could be they are very stressed and just delaying the game because they not happy with it and the quality.

charred pewter
#

the end of a games development is always an exciting and stressful/sad time

night girder
#

If that's the case, I will 100% support them.

#

You know why Satis can do this?

#

Their communication is spot on. (in my humble opinion)

#

They keep the community involved during the development process. Tell why stuff is happening. And tell the community about the future.

maiden coyote
#

There's plenty of other games that have had bugs in a completed game, and they will never get fixed. Css is like, we know it's an issue we'll fix it eventually

night girder
#

Didn't snutt say "don't expect a mind blowing story"?

#

Aso

#

they had 8 freaking years to write a story. Or more? Or less? But they had a long time.

maiden coyote
#

Story's been done for years I think

night girder
#

We had those voices all over as WIP because of story. So I doubt that's the reason.

#

I think the real problem is goal post moving. Sorry.

#

Somebody has to say: this is the date. We release by then. All start working your buttttts off.

night girder
#

Wouldn't surprise me if the game will take another 2-3 years to release.

jagged snow
jagged snow
night girder
wanton orchid
#

they can mostly focus on polishing now that they have new engine

charred pewter
#

its kinda like those axolot guys who were making raft and scrap mechanic ... scrap mechanic had a lot going for it, but its basically been dead for a year and a half now

wanton orchid
#

lot of stuff can be done quite fast once you dont have more treathening stuff in the back

charred pewter
#

i dont even know if raft has been completed yet either

night girder
#

Steam has this annoying thing that once a game is tagged for EA, it stays EA 😄

charred pewter
#

factorio got out of ea hell 😄

night girder
#

for example: Baldur Gate 3 is excluded from my shopping list because it's an EA title. While it's not in EA anymore.

charred pewter
#

oh LOL

#

Electronic Arts hell

night girder
charred pewter
#

thats funny as hell

night girder
#

yeah 😄

charred pewter
#

i put a lot of ea games in my wishlist, and keep an eye when they finally release (if ever)

night girder
#

I am done with EA games.

charred pewter
#

im done BUYING ea games

night girder
#

Like, totally done with EA games. I buy em if they look good after release.

charred pewter
#

i wait till they release, THEN i buy them, even if its more, at least the finished

night girder
#

I am not paying anymore money upfront for a game that might become fun or not ...

charred pewter
#

yup

#

GODUS ... Worlds Adrift ... a few others... took my money and bailed

night girder
#

Satis is only one that I don't regret buying in EA.

charred pewter
#

Worlds Adrift was even more upsetting because they yanked their servers so you cant even PLAY it in its last state

#

it was basically "SEEYA!! THANKS FOR THE MONEY! AHHAHAHAHAHAH"

#

so ive put all of bossa soft games into my blacklist

night girder
#

7 days to die is an EA game, in development for 10 years (2013) and has sold 16 million copies. And they are also working on Xbox version of their game. WHILE their game is still in early access. W-T-F.

charred pewter
#

dont forget the DLCs during ea .....

night girder
#

Why start working on an extra project, based on a project, that isn't released?

charred pewter
#

sounds like The Long Dark: they went off to work on a DLC before even finishing the main game !

night girder
#

And that game has still 0 information on when to release. They keep redeveloping excisting systems.

#

They had a weather system. They scrap it. And make a new weather system. Another year gone. (This really happened, maybe not the duration, but they swapped the weather system).

charred pewter
#

ASTRONEER had a weather system ... was great.... it actually could hurt .... they pulled it out

night girder
#

😦

#

Yeah, fuck EA. Give me back the days we got demos or free open beta's.

charred pewter
#

spent more time on DLC skins to sell, than adding the weather system back ... then they go and add an update that "lets you adjust everything in the game world to your liking" ... and dont return the weather system to 'turn on'

night girder
#

There was a time where game companies paid to convince consumers. They paid to hold beta's so consumers could test the game. They burned games demo's on CD's etc.

#

Now it's reversed. The consumer pays to test out a game. And I mean test as in; also do quality control and report bugs.

charred pewter
#

yup

#

people will also pay extra just to play the game 3 days early now too

night girder
#

How the fuck did this reverso happen?

#

Where did we go wrong Frigid 🤣

charred pewter
#

...... better question: how the fuck did we completely derail tech chat

night girder
#

Once gamers were Kings. Now we back to peasants 😦

charred pewter
#

lol, started out as am5 issues with hogwarts

maiden coyote
#

Ea as electronics arts and not early access?

night girder
#

early access.

maiden coyote
#

I've had better luck with early access titles than not tbh.. but I don't really buy games often. And if it's ea I'll look at it first

#

Like planet crafter. Looks neat, has potential but it's not in a state where I'll spend money on it

night girder
#

There is just too many uncertainties with EA it feels. Is it going to get released? When is it going to get released? Do we get all the features they promised us? Etc.

jagged snow
#

I think satisfactory is the only title I've ever purchased in ea

maiden coyote
#

Yeah I personally wait awhile. Satisfactory was one that I didn't wait on.

night girder
#

Do you know Escape From Tarkov? Or the concept of that game?

maiden coyote
#

Powerwash was ea, it's good. Dsp was too, it was a good purchase also

night girder
#

I loved EFT in the first years. The game became so popular in EA. But the problem is, with popularity, comes cheaters and hackers.

#

And if you know the game, you know losing gear is the most brutal thing ever.

#

Now imagine that half of the players on your map, use hacks to spot where you are.

maiden coyote
#

I'm familiar with it

night girder
#

And the company/developers refuse to handle it.

maiden coyote
#

That sucks /:

night girder
#

So how is one to know that a title in EA, will get overrun with cheaters, and the company says 🖕 that. We got other shit to do.

#

It's just one of those examples that made me fed up with early access.

maiden coyote
#

They have whatever anticheat.. but they have to pay for it (the developers)

night girder
#

The hackers use a wiggle, and other hackers can see through walls and all. So if they see other characters wiggle. They know they also hacking.

#

And they leave eachother alone.

#

So you got a bunch of hackers, wiggling around, killing players who are trying for real. And stealing all their gear.

#

And the whole point of the game, is killing people and steal their gear. Since good gear is so rare and hard to get.

maiden coyote
#

That's just for valorant I think

night girder
#

Faceit!

#

But gamers don't want to use Faceit. Since it needs root access or something.

#

But they also don't want to face cheats. But they don't want to use a good anti cheat. Ugh.

maiden coyote
#

But there's a bunch of companies that offer third party anticheat

night girder
#

Faceit.

#

Punkbuster. Battleye. Easy Anti Cheat.

#

but the Faceit is promising. But it needs to much access of the computer and people don't trust it.

maiden coyote
#

That too. I think it just boils down to being shitty and fixating on what they want, rather than what makes the customers happy

night girder
#

all the rest is laughable.

#

Would you give an anti cheat engine full access if that means it will reduce hackers/cheaters to 0.1% for example? - Just a question out of curiosity.

maiden coyote
#

There's server side anticheat too, since it's a multi-player game.. but the devs would have to bake that into their server client

night girder
#

Is that bulletproof?

maiden coyote
#

It's not really my kind of game, so I can't really answer that

night girder
#

Understandable.

maiden coyote
#

Well no, but like seeing people through walls.. don't tell the clients there's someone there

night girder
#

Honestly, I haven't made up my mind on it. Not sure where I stand on the subject of "Strict Anti Cheat vs Privacy"

maiden coyote
#

If the client gets shot dead, have the server tell them they're dead. If they report an invalid state kick them

night girder
wide void
#

Tarkov was fun early on, but yeah the hacking pretty quickly ruined it...

maiden coyote
#

Well the server knows the position of the players, and the grenade, so that'll still work as expected. And honestly that's fair lol

#

What's not fair is knowing someone's there because your can see through the wall

night girder
#

Interesting idea. I do see some flaws with it and I think those flaws are why it's not server side.

maiden coyote
#

Anti cheat is the superior way. But there are a few ways to combat it without anticheat

charred pewter
#

heh, reminds me of old quake days and people using aimbots and shooting off a rocket at someone who was about the round a corner, so the rocket met them the second they came into view

night girder
#

More communication between clients and servers for example, a.k.a. more latency and more load on servers.

charred pewter
#

i had adapted a habit of stopping short for a half second before stepping around a corner... and seeing a rocket fly by lol

night girder
#

Now quake was just chaos. People just spam stuff 😛

charred pewter
#

after the third rocket, i would call them out for using an aimbot 😉

#

and still kick their ass

night girder
#

I miss a good arena shooter 😦

charred pewter
#

cause all an aimbot did against a "good" player, is make you more vulnerable due to the way the aimbot was firing FOR you ...

#

basically turning you into an NPC ... and fighting npcs is always a joke

#

even those AI ASSISTED ones in STARFIELD 😆

edgy hazel
#

I'm not a troll I swear

wide void
#

its OK but didn't hold my interest..

charred pewter
#

halo itself was ok, but never held my interest either

night girder
#

the most modern one I remember was overwatch. And not 2. Because overwatch 2 is just 1.

wide void
#

never tried Overwatch actually, felt a lot like Fortnite to me at release

night girder
#

How? One game let's you build shit and is a battle royale.

#

While the other one let's you not built stuff, but gives you abilities specific to a character and is a 6v6

#

only thing they got in common is the graphics and both shooters. But that kinda is it?

wide void
#

more in player attitude I think, than gameplay

night girder
wanton orchid
night girder
#

But most people don't have precognition and have to play a game in order to establish it's fun or not. Gameplay or just videos of a game are highly misleading.

#

Remember when the division showed up on E3 2013?

wanton orchid
night girder
#

Yes. You bought it because you know already (beforehand) it was fun.

#

How can you beforehand know if a game is fun? 😒

wanton orchid
#

I didnt say I was basing myself off official trailer or anything

night girder
#

Ok, then what did you based it on?

wanton orchid
#

I looked up actual testing/gameplays

night girder
#

🤦‍♂️

wanton orchid
#

and evaluated that it was enough for me having fun or not

night girder
#

my points standing.

wanton orchid
#

what point ?

night girder
#

" Gameplay or just videos of a game are highly misleading."

#

but to each their own.

wanton orchid
#

official demo yes, actual gameplay of normal downloaded versions not so much

twin dew
#

Difference if the video is from the studio, or from some random person playing the real product.

wanton orchid
#

I'm not talking about a cutted thing

#

but about the raw gameplay

night girder
maiden coyote
wanton orchid

^

night girder
#

Nobody heard of people getting paid to hype games? Without telling the viewers they getting sponsored. Must be just me 🤔

jagged snow
#

I've heard of scandals like that

#

Usually doesn't go over too well

maiden coyote
#

I went off the official trailers of satisfactory... and my gf being like we should play this together.. it was mostly her decision

wanton orchid
#

if the guy use hoverpack and says it sometimes sucks and you see it 30fps and you know your pc is at least as powerful and you get how the hoverpack is controled, and you tell yourself "that's enough for the price for me"
then you can't be deceived

night girder
#

Here a recent game that got hyped a lot. Now has barely 5k players left. After a few months.

wanton orchid
#

who the fuck talk about what some youtuber SAYS, I'm talking about actual state of the game

night girder
wide void
#

lol

maiden coyote
#

But like starfield, hey it looked awesome. Skyrim in space, sure that's my thing.. but I decided to wait until after launch... because of my experience with cyberpunk

jagged snow
night girder
wanton orchid
#

"looked awesome" imply you are expecting "obvious" out of what you see
I'm talking about evaluating what is seen DIRECTLY

jagged snow
#

Started off with over 12k concurrents and lost them in a few weeks

night girder
#

I just miss the old days where I bought a PS2 magazine and I got a bunch of demo's with it.

maiden coyote
#

Games on disc's in general

night girder
#

It was simple. It worked. Less trickery.

#

Ofcourse they put the most fun mission in the demo. Or they put extra effort in the start area of the game. Those were the old tricks.

But I felt less deceived then I do lately with EA titles.

twin dew
#

Which is why some publishers know that warez is good for business if the game is good.

night girder
wanton orchid
#

but you can cross check that

night girder
#

mostly those are big YT names or whatever and they get character looking like them (specially baked into their build).

wanton orchid
#

Yes I do cross checking, and yes I suspect most video be sponsored, but there are things that can't be faked

maiden coyote
#

At that point just buy the game. Steam gives you two hours to refund if

wanton orchid
dusk rivet
#

takes a couple days usually to get the funds back tho

night girder
#

I just put EA on my ignore list. Life simple.

night girder
#

Or can you refund it directly to your bank account? I never refund 😄

dusk rivet
#

i want to say there’s an option to return it to the account used to spend it

#

i personally only ever refunded to my wallet tho

#

got the funds back in my wallet like 30 hours after submitting the application, then the funds were “quarantined” for 24 hours

wanton orchid
#

gameplay can't be faked mostly when you have it tested live on not mainstream streamers, and you ask to test some features and the streamer do

maiden coyote
#

It's too bad EA killed simcity the way they did

wanton orchid
#

or when letsplay is too long and complicated to be rendered without using actual code

maiden coyote
#

I don't think I've ever refunded a steam purchase either

wanton orchid
#

waiting for Electronic Art to have a team rebuild a whole game stage just to render a marketing trailer and have another team do the game code worse

#

these fuckers are able to do such stupidity

maiden coyote
#

If EA messes up the new Sims they're going to be in trouble.

night girder
#

Sims is a dead series to me.

#

Because of that shit 🤣

#

And then they made the base game free I think?

#

I did have a lot of fun with the sims on my PS2

wanton orchid
#

what game do you play ?
: sims4

#

EA is apple gaming

maiden coyote
#

It's only 1500 or something like that to buy it all lol

#

American Truck simulator/ets2 are two other very expensive games

#

I've probably spent $600 on both of them lol

jagged snow
night girder
#

simdollars?

jagged snow
#

No, it'd definitely be real money hehe

dusk rivet
#

i buy games on steam whenever possible

#

only ever buy from epic games if it’s only offered there

night girder
#

love how we went from EA to EA

maiden coyote
#

Yup

#

Can't tell which is which anymore

#

But some of the dlc stuff is smart, you get a customer to buy the game, release a $ 5-10 dlc a couple months later, a few mourns later release another..

maiden coyote
#

It looks really bad in a year or two, but your customers that buy the dlcs don't really notice lol

#

With Sims and ats/ets2 at least you've gotten content from your purchase. Vs buying spins or whatever

edgy hazel
#

yeah but at some point you should just bundle them with base

maiden coyote
#

Absolutely. I've got a friend who's probably spent at least 2 grand on genshin impact.

edgy hazel
#

oh genshin and stuff like that shouldn't exist like it does

#

these kind of games should 100% be subject to gambling laws

maiden coyote
#

I think ats and ets2 do bundle occasionally.

#

I don't know about the Sims.

#

I felt sick when he told me how much he dropped in that game. I'm like you could've bought a 4090

tough owl
#

but my 2d women(they love me)

I played Genshin Impact. Paid 0 for it. And glad I didn't. Because in the end. That game was totally not for me.

tough owl
#

in a million years would I assume youd play a gatcha game

edgy hazel
#

Ima be honest I got like 1k€ in warframe...

night girder
#

The grind is bad enough already, but then you also have to deal with clunky ass movement and a generic fight system.

#

So you stuck in this (in my opinion) average game, and the game wants you to grind for thousands of hours? No thank you.

maiden coyote
#

That thousand hour satisfactory grind tho ♡

night girder
#

And the story and interaction between characters in Genshin is forgetable. I don't understand how it got so much love? 😒

night girder
maiden coyote
#

Hey, I've spent almost 2k hours in a save before lol

night girder
#

That's what I love about Satisfactory. You can spend 100 hours building a factory. But if you do it good, this will payback.

#

It feels the time investing in building factories, rewards you very nicely.

#

While in other games, the reward is like a tiny +0.5% damage for example.

edgy hazel
maiden coyote
#

I aorta wish kind of wish phone games didn't exist now. Angry birds was cool. Templrun was cool, and disney monopoly was awesome ( they've removed it from the store and it doesn't exist anymore) outside of those.. I don't use my phone for games

#

You can see your factory work, you can share your save with others so they can see it too.

#

It's very rewarding. The last game I played that had a grind was guildwars, and you did that grind with other people so it was fun

sharp oasis

wanton orchid
charred pewter
#

its in a USB to SATA enclosure

wanton orchid
#

how are you connecting it ?
are you the one with usb issues ?
usb 3 can go up to ~450MB/s

charred pewter
#

USB-C 3.0 to USB-A 2.0 to SATA

wanton orchid
#

what

#

USB 2 is 50MB/s max

charred pewter
#

sorry... its all usb 3.0

#

but just cause the connection can go up to that, doesnt mean the SSD itself can

wanton orchid
#

maybe you had lot of small files

charred pewter
#

over half a million files across 120 gb

#

that image was from the backup result ... which does a full dupe to the drive

wanton orchid
charred pewter
#

so instead of running a 'benchmarker' app ... i just pulled a 'real world usage' and was wondering if that was a good number

wanton orchid
#

it these is not reproduced "real world" then numbers does not mean anything

charred pewter
#

honestly, to be fair.... i set it to dupe my drive, and went downstairs to put some things away, and when i came back everything was done ... and i was like 'what, already?' ... my old Kingston SSD seemed to take hours to do a full backup

wanton orchid
#

this real world depends how much small files you have

#

it could go down to few MB/s if it's only small files

charred pewter
#

512,000 files copied ... macos has a TON of tiny files all over the flippen place 😄

#

so for example, my images directory (which is probably the 'biggest single files' i have...) makes up 20% of the overall disk space

#

and thats across ... uh... come up calculate

#

4000 files total ish

#

(all ranging 2-5mb each) ...

#

heh ... all my photos/images (4000 of them) are taking only about 8gb of my 120 gb total ?

#

geezus, macos... wheres all the other shit then

#

(no games installed)

wanton orchid
#

for small files you hit a latency ceiling for filesystem operations
it basically only check storage multiples times and have do go through the whole usb driver enclosure driver then backward each time

charred pewter
#

right

#

this ssd is supposed to have dram, but im not sure if it really matters in this situation of use

wanton orchid
#

it does not matter
dram increase write/read speed and on drive latency
it can't do anything about usb and driver latency

charred pewter
#

👍

#

given its now only for backups and time machine ... i shouldnt really be too bothered and mainly just care about longevity instead (dont want it dying in just 1 year of use lol)

wanton orchid
#

especially for filesystem operations
these are not bulk operations

#

it can only be done one after the other

charred pewter
#

i guess if i was using it to build and process large video files, it would matter more

#

thankfully im not an influencer ! YAY

wanton orchid
#

in what way ?

charred pewter
#

video files are huge, and processing them to disk, and reading them in again, shuffling them around/saving/editing/deleting ... helps to have a fast disk no?

Your chart doesn't even cover the majority of good value good performance SSDs

wanton orchid
dire igloo
#

A440 Pro, MP44L, NM790, NM710, KC3000, etc

wanton orchid
dire igloo
#

I just mentioned they're good value cuz they tend to be the least expensive high-ish end SSDs

wanton orchid
#

the goal was to show even big m.2 latest ssds does not go over 300MB/s at 4k qd1

dire igloo
#

If you want maximum performance, SK Hynix P41 Platinum, Solidigm P44 Pro or any non-T700 E26 drive with a Gen5 board and CPU

wanton orchid
dire igloo
#

Hm, fair

dire igloo
wanton orchid
#

btw building is with a lot of small files

#

you usually prefer ramdisk for latency drop

#

fast m.2 are only useful if you build big projects with a lot of cores

#

so on workstations

#

because they are only faster at 4k qdX not 4k qd1

#

btw I like icy box enclosures
can go up 100 000 iops
and pull almost 950MB/s on usb 3.2 (10G)

#

btw I'm searching good usb c cables
seems there are only charger low speed cables

gilded helm
#

Deals on USB cables which aren't min spec can be hard to come by, I didn't see any in the past week

gilded helm
#

3A is the max spec on a USB-A to USB-C cable I'd want, right?

#

THinking about those for my LG V60.

Problem is - I do not know how to wire that, like I have a couple ideas as to how but idk

stray badger

people have done that with RPIs before, its probably a similar process

sharp oasis

Hold on. So.

#

My pc has decided

#

It can power itself on

#

Like

#

It's even in event viewer

#

I put it to sleep

#

And then not a moment later

#

It powers itself on

jagged snow
#

Oh yeah, that's an issue that pops up sometimes

#

It's usually caused by software for a usb peripheral

sharp oasis
#

Ahh

jagged snow
#

Corsair, razer, logi, all of them have had it at one point or another

sharp oasis
#

Normally it doesn't wake if I do anything to usb shit

#

So it somehow has to be software

jagged snow
#

You should be able to wake it up by tapping any keyboard button

sharp oasis
#

I can wake the keyboard

#

But the system will remain in sleep

jagged snow
#

Oh that's not normal

sharp oasis
#

It's in a bit of a mess atm as I had to do emergency OS repair

#

/bios resets bc of too fast ram ocs

jagged snow

Do you have wake on usb turned off?

@jagged snow

It appears it's randomly starting itself frequently

BT has a bit of a headache right now

wanton orchid
#

not so much as any of the 2 peers can control that behavior
any driver update will fix it
will probably land in Linux kernel next month for instance

narrow folio
#

true, everything that can receive an update will hopefully get a fix rather quickly

twin dew
#

Android Phones? In your dreams...

narrow folio
#

depends on what android phone you are talking about

#

more recent ones should get a fix.

#

but if you have some cheap or/and old one don't get your hopes up
better install linageos if supported

twin dew
#

Most user made releases use the stock kernels, so no help there.

#

AFAIK.

#

In theory someone could backport the fix to the exact version the stock kernel uses, and compile the free bits again, and bolt the closed source driver package to it again.

wanton orchid
#

I wish android phone was running distribution like packaging

twin dew
#

Even proper ongoing closed source driver support would be improvement.
Open sourcing the drivers and including them in the kernel...

#

Even the phone makers don't get the driver source...

wanton orchid
#

not getting the driver source is a thing
not allowing to package the closed source driver blobs into custom system is heresy

twin dew
#

Problem is that the closed source driver blob is just for one kernel version.

#

Because Linux Kernel driver ABI isn't stable.

wanton orchid
#

for instance Nvidia proprietary Linux kernel drivers are enabled to be built as module for any kernel version

#

I didn't say as drop in
but at least so you can build the module blob yourself

#

currently doing this in Linux is called dkms packages

#

the none blob part of the module must be open source though

twin dew
#

IIRC Nvidia does that with semi-open-source SHIM that gets compiled with DKMS.
That interprets between the kernel and the closed source blob.

wanton orchid
#

so it can be adapted for any kernel

#

the blob just have it's own low level interface

#

but it's already developed like that normally

twin dew
#

DKMS is just way to automate compiling of out-of-mainline driver source when kernel is updated.

wanton orchid
#

you first expose the peripheral capabilities with your blob
then implement that capabilities in the kernel current abi (open source part)

twin dew
#

And unfortunately Qualcomm and other ARM mobile chip makers actively resist anything like that.

wanton orchid
#

and it's lame

twin dew
#

They like their forced obsolescence.

wanton orchid
#

it's actually against law
but lawyer are still lagging in the head
selling you a product you don't have control over and keeping exclusive remote control of it is literally balantly against any sane trading law

#

they don't sell phones as useless piece of complex stack of metal
but as useful feature full piece of hardware
so you literally BUY that
if you then can't use it as your exclusive private will
then it's a scam

twin dew
#

Almost everything you buy has locked firmware & software?
Doesn't limit using.
Just in case of unsupported phones, make it security risk.

#

And US has provisions that make hacking any such protection, no matter how trivial to do, illegal.
Unless part of specific exemptions that are decided by Library of Congress every few years.

#

And even for the exempted, it cannot be done by someone else, and releasing howto information etc. is still illegal.

wanton orchid
#

and if you are actively allowing industry to abuse these methodologies to obviously end up in such bad cases/times then you are corrupt

enforcing hardware provider to provide binary interface bare blob resource does not make it harder for them, a blob which is itself locked ofcourse nothing wrong yet

but enforcing that does make it harder for scammers
