If nothing else you can probably flash your 3050 Ti to its highest possible power limit.
well laptop 3050TI is just a downbinned/undervolted GA107 isn't it?
Sounds right
Or is the GA107 exclusively that GPU? Too lazy to check myself and you seem to know
I think 3050 is lesser 107, 3050 Ti is full 107. Couldn't swear to it
Hmm
Its on a 128 bit bus too
That should be able to handle 8GB, if not then def 6
But now Nvidia rereleased another version of the 3050 Ti laptop with Lovelace which has 8GB
Oh and actually that's something that really annoys me
Techpowerup is pretty good at capturing the specs like this
Supposedly, my laptop has a 12700H. However the die is identified as a 12500????????????
What's the exact laptop?
When I say this, I'm referring to how most tools identify it as a 12700H, however another tool i've got (forgot its name and its on a flash drive at work) reports its CPUID as 12700H, but also reports "CPU Die: 12500"
WHen I look that laptop model up I see its CPU as 1260P. Maybe there are other configurations? I'm on a Lenovo, so I'm not sure what could be going on there.
?
That makes no sense
The site at least used to say 12700H, task manager and HWM also say 12700H
This is bizzare
There's the A12UCT but that also has the same CPU
This is what I'm looking at, a couple store pages have the same CPU
remove the h in https
Yep that's the site i'm referring to
I'd look for an MSI Discord and ask there. Pretty sure one exists. Now that I have my current daily driver, I only loosely follow laptops.
The Laptop Wiki server might also be good. It was originally focused on Lenovo but I'm pretty sure it branched out
Just by the name i assume it is probably the 1260p
Doubt 2gbps most hdds only do slightly. Above 1gbps
Ah, fckn hell, link white list.
Sorry for ghost ping, herg.
TLDR for the non-German speakers:
A German hardware store (Bauhaus) has a "PlusCard" membership for enterprise customers.
The billing info for orders made by PlusCard members was readily available via search engines, primarily bing.
When they were contacted directly via the contact option on their website, nothing happened.
Once this researcher contacted the state's data protection officer and the data protection responsible at Bauhaus, the bug releasing that info was patched almost immediately.
The results were still available via Bing Cache AND via Bing chat. Another email to those two people later and that too was fixed.
damn them, Black Friday deal and I caved on not upgrading my phone yet, lol
Was it even real deal, or just "deal".
half price on a handset that is only a few months old, 'Feels' like a deal
granted the retail is normally overblown anyway
But what was the price month ago compared to today?
Not compared to what was the listed as "normal" price today.
its still Β£1400 on Samsungs website
Β£600 on somewhere called tysmarket, but that feels scammy, lol
Bought my phone 6 weeks ago, it's 70β¬ less now and you get headphones with them
I really need to replace my iphone 6S. battery life is at 69%
Nice
Iphone 12 seems to have a nice price.
feeling battery on my 9s too
I just don't want to pay 1K for brand new iPhone π
so looking around with the black friday deals.
come team android
Iphone 12 more expensive than 15
No longer produced. Low supply = high price
Yeah, fuck that π€£
Kinda sad to see iphone models and their improvements next to eachother.
next up, iphone with 8gb ram
Already started cursing about forgetting to turn the dishwasher on again today.
And then remembered I did run it this morning after breakfast \o/
if it only took such small things to bright up my day π€£
kitty nuzzling up next to me is all it takes to brighten my day
Someone on QA site was running Satisfactory Dedicated server on Penryn based Xeon from 2007... Just why?! 2.83GHz max clocks...
Why not lol
I don't even want to know how slow the game is on that kind of CPU...
I've seen people try to make it run on a rpi4 too
But got confirmation that UE5.2 U8 needs AVX1 too, and not just SSE4.1.
Because that CPU has SSE4.2, but no AVX.
Phenom IIs are missing SSE4.1, 4.2 and AVX.
So couldn't be sure which was the sticking point.
Dedi needs everything normal P2P hosting needs, just no need for GPU.
Runs the factory and the first players near sphere (like SP), and then near spheres for each additional client too (like P2P host)
And that second player drops the FPS on the P2P host to 75-50% of previous one if CPU limited.
So you want the dedi to be the best CPU.
Unless you just want it to launch on a potato for fun
Not that good for Satisfactory dedi.
Too many threads, not high enough single-core.
The new tr pro is a beast
Yes, for multicore loads.
In both multi and single
It has pretty good SP, but not world shattering.
It beats my 5800x for single thread
So it doesn't suffer, but way overpriced if you just use the SP.
So like if you had the money for that 10k tr pro.. you could start your own hosting service lol
I run my dedi on a i7 7700 I think.. It runs fine, and I've probably got enough headroom to host a second dedi
I'm not really sure how many threads the dedicated server wants though.. I'd like to host a second server but not if it'll tank performance of the other
which one of these listings should I buy? They're all Logitech superlights with little difference
like one is new but a bit more costly than the others, and another one comes with skates preinstalled
It's start with apple locking their devices with special screws.
So one cannot just open up a laptop and clean it out.
The pentalobe security screw (Apple nomenclature), or pentalobe screw drive, is a five-pointed tamper-resistant system used by, but not limited to, Apple in their products. Pentalobe screws were adopted by Apple starting in 2009, when they were first implemented in the 15-inch MacBook Pro. They have since been used on other MacBook Pro, MacBook ...
They* are stubborn and pridefull.
wont admit if they made design choices.
wont change their bad design choices.
Watching apple ads with my non techy friends is one of the most painful things
I was looking into the iphones. But the specs only slightly chance for an extra 100-200 euro's between models
At the moment it looks like an iphone 12 is decent and somewhat in my price range, still 600 euro's for a phone is a lot. I bought 6S second hand for 300.
But anyways, the new ethernet cable I made worked at least at 1Gbit/s and Intel LAN diagnostic software on 1Gbit card said the quality was excellent, even when there was cheap & old extension block and another cable connected to extend it to the switch.
and it used to be that iphone and macbook had seamless integration. Those days are gone now too.
Because it is built partially into the apartment structure and the connectors could only be added when it was in place.
These days, if I plug in my iphone, before it can sync to my macbook. I need to enter a pincode on my phone.
Else the iphone wont sync with my macbook π€·ββοΈ So every single god dam time, I gotta enter a pincode.
For a good reason.
It's how apple fixes their security issues.
Yeah believe whatever you want. If you think this is a good reason.
Can't fix security in their own OS. Let's annoye consumer with pincode. Nice fix.
And the whole thing "apple works with apple" is total gone.
btw Maxeek.
That is universal issue?
With any device?
That if it allows data connection without unlocking, it can be just hoovered of data by just plugging it in to suitable device?
It's dumb asfuck. Never had to do it with android π€·ββοΈ Bro, it's my iphone. Instead that the iphone checks the icloud of thje laptop. And the icloud of the iphone. If account match = good to go.
Too old Android.
It always worked. But because of one zero day we UX went back to mediaval times.
Users even don't to recognize it as a feature.
"This is a new security measure. Investigators found that a hacker who had access to the computer used for backing up an iOS device could force a backup to an unprotected location on the computer, where it could then be downloaded and its contents compromised. So the βtrustβ requirement was added to verify that the phoneβs owner was initiating the backup. "
I guess it's developed by the same Junior kade spoke about. Who write a try loop around a service to see if it was up, and then kill that service over and over again.
yeah plugging in a phone or something like that should always require pin entry for the phone. Everything else is just dangerous
π
What about it
It just cripples their own marketing strategy. "Apple works with apple products out of the box". And it used to be the case. I now have to do more stuff to sync my iphone than 5-6 years ago.
Todays dilemma...
I used to be able to manage it all with iTunes, pretty much automatically. But then they killed iTunes. Moved partyle of the iphone management to finder.
printf made my code faster...
But you can also still see your iphone in Music.app. Just not configure it. You have to do that in finder for some reason π€·ββοΈ
Trying to get pictures from an iPhone to anything but another iPhone is bullshit
Yeah, didn't you enjoy playing it?
Have to either email it, text it and it'll be low quality... or use the windows photo app...
Ah my bad. Sorry then I mistaken you for someone else.
Which is also garbage
just air drop it
oh wait ...
Almost everything else can push files over bluetooth..
It's 2023, you own nothing, at least make it slightly less painful while they tell me it's for my security
It's sad that the only piece of tech I can buy, that I actually feel like I own is a raspberry pi
With pc stuff and uefi, shit like armory crate really makes me feel like I don't own that stuff anymore.
armory crate hit a big nerve to me.
That shit made me despise all 3rd party software almost π€£
I have nightmares from that.
RPI is so good
shit should be illigal
It legit fucked up my pc.
We've pretty much lost the phone market.
I was lucky was able to uninstall it and fix it...
yeah, almost impossible to convice the average consumer to buy linux phones
What also upset me was when I found out about IME. There's a whole computer running on my pc that I don't have access too
ignorance is bliss they say?
If we get right to repair and schematics for phones and everything else, even if the software stays locked down.. I'd still count that as a win
Schematics for stuff like this would be nice. This is a turbo vct out of a Cummings engine. It has 2 atmel soc's on it and it was hit by lighting. So far the only thing blown I can find is the cam transceiver ic
Graphene os for phones looked neat, I think louis had issues with it tho
Apple good
that's because all iphone browsers are safari reskins
No adblock on ios
Is an m.2 wd black any good?
And I just tried to stick A-C USB cables C end into chargers A port...
so my mother has an old APC UPS ... when plugging it in and pushing its button, it just screams EEERRREEEEEEAAEEERRRREEEEEEE ....
horrific sound
Sure it's not an air alarm?
Failed battery.
its pretty loud
Yes, to not be ignored in data center levels of noise.
As UPS without working battery is more dangerous situation than not having UPS at all.
if i want to use it, i'll buy another battery and see if the unit is fine... but right now i think im good for all my devices
Samsung. Lexar. WD. 2TB drives. Look at the "prijs per GB" -> price for a GB.
It can help you in figuring out the right SSD for you.
Depends on price, alternatives and what model of WD Black it is
Where do you live?
Then the nexty thing to do is. Look up reviews of the product?
it had been off and unplugged for a couple years cause she had stopped using the tv in the room it was in so she just unpluged it
I dont trust any samsung 990
I got a Lexar. So happy with it.
Eh, they're fine. Just overpriced af
And im looking at 4tb
price/quality is really good imo π
Models please
790
Lexar NM790 is great value in a lot of places
Got that one too, dope stuff
π
Neat!
WD Black SN850X (without heatsink) 4TB, cheapest in my country is β¬ 279.
1x 790 - 2TB is 99 euro. So for 4TB it would be 200 euro (cheaper than WD). If you have spare m2 slot.
So many options. But yeah, fireworker said most important stuff π
nvm, I got the 4TB version, was 200β¬
Lexar, thats a name I have heard before but am unfamiliar with
What controller/nand does that use?
Is the Samsung PM893 in there?
TLC SATA SSD that goes up to 8GB
That is enterprise gear:
Their highest consumer SATA SSD is the QVO
Which has good and bad points.
Its marketed as enterprise but is at a consumer pricepont
I have four of them at low capacity for server.
TLC nand as opposed to their QVO for consumer (QLC)
How do they perform?
Also I'd just be using them for Lancache on a 2.5G network so if they can't saturate 2.5G then they aren't worth being called SSD's
550MB/s or so for copying etc. basic stuff.
Don't think I ran any real SSD benchmarks on them yet.
Oh sounds like they work fine then
790 uses a Micron nand. (according the excel).
Nope, only the common consumer stuff
The specs are pretty accurate.
I'm interested in them because they're the only SATA SSD I found that goes up to 8TB and doesn't use QLC
I do not want to use QLC in a server
They make a ton of storage stuff
What are the bad points?
MAP1602, but with some funky tuning.
It basically allocates the entire drive as SLC cache
There's not really an RMA process
I would expect enterprise to have a better RMA process than consumer
I said strange not bad, those are some pretty nice stats tho
No idea,
Seemed pretty great for the price.
Competitive TBW, Power loss protection.
Ok performance.
Needed cheap SSDs for project so got two pairs of 480GB ones for RAID-1
Just showing how well it works
That faint blue line is a crucial t700, Phison E26 Gen5 drive
Sounds perfect for me then because I can't afford SAS and I need high density SATA SSD's because I have limited ports and would like to avoid using an addin card
And while I have 3 m.2 slots, those are already allocated to VMs
I swear one day I will make a gaming pc with the 1TB U.2 3D XPOINT Optane drive as boot drive
Just to say I did
Good luck, as the production of the stuff ended years ago at this point.
For the chips.
Yeah
I can get one on newegg for like 1k
Prohibitively expensive
If I can't get my hands on 3DXPOINT by the time i'm ready for it then I'll have to move on to the only thing thats faster which is a RAM SSD
But that's like 3x more expensive from what i've seen
Speaking of RAM, a client's custom built PC has at least one bad 32GB stick of DDR4, I'm gonna use it as practice and replace packages on it in order to save it, or at least try to
Basic bootup speeds wonβt cut it β not at work, on the go, or in the game. But the Crucial P3 SSD is anything but basic. With NVMe performance thatβs nearly 5x faster than SATA and nearly 20x faster than HDD2, the P3 leaves older storage technology in the dust. With sequential read/write speeds u...
4tb for sub $160
because thats how I was taught to do it
More in general.
euro sign comes after yes
Dont ask Maxeek π€£ - Somebody wanted to special.
iirc correctly tho GB uses the pound before it too
I think it's how we pronounce it, we say 100 dollars please. and not: "dollars 100 please."
only reason I can think of the EU put it aftwards. Because they know we dumdums π€£
MP34 is $152, better drive
Don't some countries use the currency sign as the decimal point?
So $3.50 becomes 3$50
What is this abomination
That sounds terrible
I believe that might be done in the uk... or at least that's how they say it
Germans say it like that
I think almost all do that
in english you also go 3 dollars 50
you don't say 3 50 dollars
fiddy*
Yea
Instead, they stole this X-Ray design from @iFixit and seemingly tried to sweep it under the rug during yesterdayβs chaos. (4/4)
You retiring?
lmao
just read about the whole drama
happy they're getting sued
Be happy he has done nothing.
Gabe is doing alright
Else we had NFT's and some crypto baked into steam.
The fact it didn't happen makes me think someone is doing a good job by not doing anything π€£
I mean they have the steam deck
OLED Deck
the deck may be the thing that finally brought gaming to linux
good movie
It always stuck in my head.
I don't know what to watch yet. First I am going to go out to grab something to bite.
always figure the movie out before getting food
Yeah, I have a backup movie π
otherwise enjoy your cold fries
but honestly, so much garbage. I recently watched Dune again. π€·ββοΈ
it's a ~~bad ~~ averrage movie, hence my backup. Good enough to entertain me while eating. A guy ritchie movie.
I think the last movie I watched was nimona
The latest new one I watched was that knives out on netflix.
james bond (daniel craig) playing a detectice. It's cluso.
Loved the first one, second one was good but the ending killed it for me (tho I gotta admit, it was well-written)
Everything everywhere all at once fried my brain, disassembled it into its parts, then rearranged it into a donut and everything made sense in the end
what a movie. Low budget. Amazing effects.
Agree. And pleasant for the eyes (second one).
@edgy hazel did you see this?
Funky stuff going on at Bauhaus
Lol
wait I just watched the last dankpods vid
the first halo isn't backwards compatible with the series x
i dont think any original xbox games are backwards compatible
if they did use it in marketing, then this is scummy
I barely see any ads so I wouldn't know.
i thought just for xbox one and 360?
wording. They say "play thousands of..." not "all of...". I think that will be their legal case.
But still I get what you mean
bro it's halo
maybe it's technical just not possible?
they put a ps2 into a ps3 to make it happen back then
you can prolly get og xbox performance in the size of a pi zero
The pinecil is much smaller than I thought it would be, I'll have to get used to this thing
same
oh you have one too?
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is compatible π but not Halo: Combat Evolved.
Ogxbox was intel x86 the 360 was powerpc cpu
So any backwards compatability is because they recompiled the game for a different arch
Xboxone and the new one are both x86.. so you really shouldn't have any issues with backwards compatability
That's why I don't do consoles π€£
But yeah.. it's a console.. they're so concerned about hacking and drm that the disc drive (is it has one) is locked to the bios and the apu
For xbox one you had to transplant the controller ic inside the drive if the drive died
I thought 360 was also intel?
I guess i was wrong
guys do ctrl+shift+alt+win+L on your computers
2 hands
LinkedIn is worthless for way too many people, but the same with x or w has at least some purpose
Made a thing in MS Word as vector graphics.
"Recording security camera monitoring this space" as bad translation
To be printed and put below the new camera, to fulfill legal requirements to inform anyone visiting my place of the thing exists.
The small black borders were for the cutting and were left out.
Okay, out of curiosity, why are there two localappdata folders in the pc? One with percent signs and one without
The percentage sign one shouldn't exist?
And is caused by some software fucking up with the macro?
%Appdata% is macro to get to current users Appdata\Roaming.
And %LocalAppdata% is macro to get current users Appdata\Local
They shouldn't exist as actual directories.
I see
Like told on #satisfactory
They are shortcuts/macros to give directory paths that automatically change based on the current users profile directory and appdata locations.
Maybe you're not crazy, I bought an onn. Micro sd card and stuck it in my dashcam. It killed it in less than a day.
That was very quick, might have been bad unit.
It refuses to format in the cam and the computer doesn't recognize it lol. It's going back to walmart monday
I figured it would've lasted a couple of months
can't diskpart it?
I have a new moniter arriving today, Can i plug my old one into the hdmi of my mother board and still use it?
google "enable igpu multi-monitor in the bios"
Yes, if you haven't completely disabled the IGP.
Usually they now default to being enabled even with GPU inserted.
Intel has had issues with igp and dedicated graphics. But try it, it should work
Since when?
Just need to have the IGP drivers up to date too.
It just gave me an error
It caused satisfactory to crash with a 7th gen intel cpu
If it works it works. If they start getting weird issues, disable the igp and use the output on the gpu
never had issues
U8 needs drivers from last 6 months or so for Intel, or the XeSS plugin causes crash if you try to start the game in DX12 mode, when the game selects the IGP.
This was... a while back.. like u3
Sometimes Windows is stupid and puts Satisfactory on IGP and not dGPU if you don't set it in specific part of Windows Settings.
I've got someone else who can't play ue5 games with a 2nd gen intel cpu
surprised windows boots at all with a 2nd gen intel
Worked with 4th gen Intel IGP, on DX11 mode.
I think they got satis to work with force dx11 flag
.
Yeah, I told them to get a steam deck.
DX11 works as it doesn't load the XeSS plugin.
I tried to recommend a cheap pc build. And they bought a gateway allinone
Intel fucked up the coding of the XeSS plugin, and if it detects Intel IGP/GPU, it expect the GPU driver to have certain extensions that are only in newest drivers.
And crashes if those don't exist.
I'm just glad the dedi server doesn't check for that.. it does check to make sure your monitor resolution isn't too low
Odd that a command line program needs a minimum mointor resolution.
BlackBerry is a 2023 Canadian biographical comedy-drama film directed by Matt Johnson from a script by Johnson and producer Matthew Miller. It was adapted from Jacquie McNish and Sean Silcoff's book Losing the Signal: The Untold Story Behind the Extraordinary Rise and Spectacular Fall of BlackBerry. The film is about the creation of the BlackBer...
I'd kill for a good blackberry
the only media I really cosume on my phone is music anyways
I write more emails and messaged than I watch youtube by a landslide
Turning on igpu was ez af
Usually it's not the issue of how hard something is to do, but more an issue of knowing what to do
Ok
Ok, so out of the 3 games I played on this new rig. 2/3 crash π€£
Now I am beginning to fear I made a mistake going to AMD. Holy shit. It's so unstable.
Not 100% sure if it's AMD being crap, but I beginning to assume it more and more.
I see there is a new 2.01 Bios Update for B650M
Ok soo got my new moniter they kindly gave me hdmi And Display port cable
Can i plug the display port into my primary ot secondary screen?
Any suggestions
rewriting that question would be my first suggestion
Or you have just something broken in the installation, or the HW.
Did you run memory testing after enabling XMP for example?
I don't have XMP enabled. afaik.
it's all stock hardware without changes π
Ok.
Drivers up to date. Windows up to date. GW2 crashes. Now Hogwarts legacy crashed. Only game running stable is RDR2.
Still, run some tests.
You can have broken HW straight from factory.
Or while assembling.
hcidesign.com/memtest/ - This good? Or ... - www.memtest86.com/
Soo my New pc moniter arrived, it came with a hdmi and a display Port cable
Should i use the display port cable for my primary or secondary monitor
i prefer displayport for main monitor that will be doing the highest res and hz
same we're locking over here, we straight up clicking our cables in, we're pressing buttons to unplug cables
Ok ok
There was one difference. This time my PC didn't crash. I got error from AMD.
What kind of error?
π
I can use hdsm and display port cable for 2 screens on thr same gpu unless i gotta use the hdmi in the Mother board
Nvm
Got it working
Nvidia GPUs can usually output to 4 monitors, AMD ones to 4 or 6.
Intel 2-4 depending on age.
If the connectors are there.
AMD usually has limit that maximum of 2 HDMI/DVI monitors.
Unless they use exact same resolution and refresh rate.
Rest have to be DisplayPort from the GPU, can use active converters.
This moniter got g-sync
Doesn't matter.
If I knew a memtest was gonna take hours, I would have done it over night π
One pass without tests 11 and 13 is usually enough.
Should take 30-60 minutes.
But so far so good. No errors. Also those fucking sleeps
The sleeps are testing if tREFI or tRFC are unstable.
It puts sleeps after tests, probably for a reason. But β¦ no wonder it takes so long.
That is the Test 11.
Hammer test is another that takes, long, you can skip it too.
It only tests if the RAM can be attacked with RowHammer attack.
Using different version then.
I just dowbloaded from memtest86 website
Its v10.6 free edition
But one pass was good enough.
Would has shown any actually broken cells.
Yes.
Ruled out for now.
I saw a AMD ambassador or community mananger recommend to run AMD clean up tool. It removes old AMD garbage. But I don't see how that can solve any issues?
I was about to suggest nuking the GPU drivers with DDU and reinstalling as test.
Same idea.
AMD Cleanup Utility only removes old software/files if I read correctly.
And leaves the current (in use) files in place?
But the official people need to recommend the official tools.
Apparently that's only true for everyone but ms support
MS doesn't really have support, just random people answering.
Even if some small percentage are in theory employees.
Who don't seem to have any access to other parts of the business.
I was referring to their otp customer support there
I have no clue what's going on with the forums
Since I bought the game I could barely play. I would play 10min maybe 20min then game kicks me out with "AMD Driver time out error" or just kicks me out with a black screen. I have updated my graphics drivers even upgraded to windows 11, installed my motherboard drivers, turned off hardware accelerator as per some google suggestion nothing helps...
if this is a driver issue, AMD needs to get their shit together on the driver stuff
Another fix would be: MPO. But I need to dig into that what it does first before I tweak it in registry.
Like Nvidia 3000-series still seems to have major issues with U8 on DX12?
Disables thing that allows multiple overlays to be independent, and not flattened together before being merged into the original frame.
Multi-Plane Overlay.
Gives little boost to FPS if you have multiple overlays running, but seems to cause issues in some cases.
When the specific overlays cannot co-exist properly.
I'm currently downloading a game from xbox store... I can't decide if they're just that much worse with handling decompression or if they just limit download speeds that heavily
But the disk writes are at less than half the speed I'd experience when downloading through steam
Honestly, I hate troubleshooting like this. Feels like throwing darts into the dark and hope for hitting bullseye π€£
Let me think a bit more. Think my next step would be a clean install of AMD. (Like you suggested ofc).
But I want to see if it crashes again now that I emptied that shader cache. I was tweaking around graphic settings (without restarting the game) and maybe that got the game confused. /copium
?
π§
yeah
Seems at least some people have that from Afterburner and the AMD Settings / Overlay or some other AMD full install thing not playing nice together.
i 100%'d hogwarts
The Driver timeout thing.
How many times did it crash? π
never once
No afterburner here. Only AMD Adrenalin Edition.
No matter what I did, I got the same behavior. However, the latest thing I tried (which I didn't really see anyone else talking about) was to DDU the AMD driver in safe mode, then INSTALL THE DRIVER ONLY VERSION OF ADRENALIN rather than the full install.
And in same thread the other way, removing afterburner fixed it.
it jerked/stuttered in hogsmede due to the shitty NPC pathing issues ... but other than that it ran fine
But you can try the driver only or the middle option (leaving streaming etc. out with just basic settings version of AMD Settings installed)
I read that too. But I don't have after burner. And I am 99% I did a freaking clean install of AMD.
I did it like 5-10 times (fully clean install of OS, disconnect internet, usb with drivers, connect internet, update windows, ...).
btw, i run afterburner all the time (and rtss) ... but i dont actually after-burn my gpu... π
So either it's the AMD updates already fucking it up. But I have been a good boy and not mess with it.
no OC, no UV
And one point is that it might be other overlays too, not just with Afterburner.
Because the AMD driver on full has two (might be actually same), one that allows overlay access to the Radeon Settings with alt+r by default, and the performance overlay with ctrl+shift+o
So try going to Settings, Preferences, and untick the In-Game Overlay as first.
π
that is the first.
The performance one doesn't seem to be active without it being toggled.
so many overlays ....
even realized i had xbox game overlay running too (on win11)
disable that. The xbox game overlay.
yeah
its extremely annoying just all by itself LOL ... "you could win this giveaway!"

It's been a thing for a while where specific frequencies could break hdds in laptops when played from the internal speakers or at a high enough volume from another source
Caused resonance of the writehead in one specific (very common) laptop HDD type.
That caused it to touch the platters.
my first reaction too, no way ...
In later drives it has been fixed with logic that parks the head if there seems to start to be resonance happening.
Like they park the head if the drive detects reduced gravity (from being in freefall).
Just needs to be the exact right one for the exact drive.
And now shouldn't be possible to happen anymore.
I found it interesting as fuck. It's science.
And forgot that it had been "fixed" on OS side with that audio pipeline filter.
But resonances are a bitch.
Probably.
But again, that specific one only affected one very specific drive model.
But that one was very common one.
But that one is perfectly logical, just bad luck and now known and probably taken more into account by HDD makers.
Resonant frequencies need to be taken into account in all mechanical design.
They can be incredibly destructive
I'm still a fan for some use cases
It's the cheapest possible way to store data in reasonable quantities
The performance might not be the best, but the durability is excellent when poperly cared for
They have
But you'd be hard pressed to find 2tb of flash for $25
Wd also manufactures their own disks
But with WD you have major problems getting CMR anymore.
Conventional Magnetic Recording.
vs. SMR / Shingled Magnetic Recording.
Imo cmr doesn't really fit into the market
If you want the speed, you'd just go with flash
Since the data density difference is so significant
Most of enterprise stuff is CMR.
No, because of the automatic SMR being so completely useless tech for actual work.
For enterprise the SMR drives need specialist controllers, not the automatic in-drive thing.
And are available for archieval etc. purposes.
And the actual data density improvement is pretty minor.
But as it saves the HDD manufacturer something like 5% per drive...
And consumers don't know better, and it doesn't affect most normal consumer usage.
Just fucks up backups etc. large writes.
I have an external smr drive
Try finding consumer HDD that isn't one, except for NAS drives.
And WD even makes "NAS" drives that are SMR.
The WD Red base models are SMR.
Red Plus and Red Pro are not.
It's just stationary bulk storage for a machine that didn't have any more internal drive space
For 90% of use cases it's fine
yt reviewers making everyone think they need a high end SSD made for editing
Any nvme gen 3 or faster is plenty for the average gamer
Unless direct storage gets a lot better, the benefit isn't even that big
jyrfxs
anyone who speaks bottom can translate?
so
apparently the whole teslas hitting children is because their depth-perception free cameras assume children are adults but further away
Im not entirely sure why but when i first joined this server i was surprised
"Wow so many smart people play satisfactory"
In reference to this channel
pfft
Anyone know of a good metal tip hand pump for desildering, im having trouble finding one
I want a metal tip bc I have a bad habit of touching the iron with the tip
well that's where you realise you need to train your hand
fair lol
don't blame the tools

and I wouldn't want to suck up hot liquid metal with metal anyways
Solderwick is superior.. but desoldering what is the more important question?
especiall when it's a little crammed I find it a bit difficult to use
Everything in there is what you need for desoldering
low melt alloy is key. And wick.
But I'm also a heretic and use solder with flux in it
Oh, and Flux.. that low melt alloy stuff is amazing. Hdmi ports will fall right off.
We are probably on different levels.
I just solder when I need to fix shit which doesn't happen that often
I want to do this... and upgrade it to 32gb lol
But. I don't want to guiniepig my own deck for a ram upgrade
Hey so that low temp alloy, 63/37, thats the only solder I've ever had? Didnt realize it was special
Should I be using a higher heat alloy for finished joints?
what are you soldering?
Various things, ranging from keyswitches to chips on laptops
usually it doesn't matter that much since solder isn't supposed to carry much weight. Ports might be a different thing due to strain
and low temp solder is super easy to work with so why not?
Alright does anyone have that psu tier list thing quickly available
I don't
Ok
Sorry
yo guys
oh also I have wick, like a lot of it, just not at home its all at work
Meanwhile WD sitting in the corner with no chin trying to sell "prosumer" SMR drives
cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/
The SSSSS tier PSU is that one 230W PSU I pulled out of an old 2008 HP desktop
It probably still works fine (I used it for scrap wire)
WD seems to now state it in the datasheets at least:
support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detailweb/a_id/50697/~/steps-to-determine-if-an-internal-drive-uses-cmr-or-smr-technology
But this is just pure crap:
3.5" Blacks are CMR, 3.5" Blues have both in most capacities, and you need to know to look at the model number where single letter changes.
X as last is CMR, Z is SMR.
2.5" Blacks have both SMR and CMR...
As much as i shit on seagate's barracuda drives, they're based when it comes to anything higher end than those (never used skyhawk tho so idk about that one)
Skyhawk is for constant video recording.
Not that good for general usage, as it really has been optimized on firmware level for that.
Same hardware as Ironwolfs.
Whops, read the line wrong...
Goes hard
For the record, single biggest notable change between S20 and S23 is the camera, the new camera is really good, and it already wasn't bad on the S20
They have Way more lens area now
DSLR with built-in phone when? But I think this was already a thing years ago in some Chinese product
not dlsr but samsung tried something like that
and xiaomi with their 12s
both flopped iirc
reason being, if you care that much about photos, you have your own seperate camera which you don't need to carry with you if you go grocery shopping
So cmr drives are a must if you want to build a raid array with multiple disks. Otherwise for bulk data storage or maybe even raid 1 smr would be fine.
aye, sensible middle ground is perfect. I'm always going to have a phone, I rarely have my DSLR if I'm just 'out and about'
yeah, the best camera is the one you have with you.
and for 90% of shit your phone is enough
and as the high end mobile cams really became good enough for most occasions I never use my old camera anymore
and the other 10% are not worth carrying a full camera around
from a Pixel 6 Pro
some full format sensor with a good lens may result in better quality, but for me this is good enough
wait, discord butchers the pic... but you get the idea
ye
Initial sync even for RAID-1 will take forever, and same for any kind repair if one drive fails.
Or if you try to write more than X GB in once which is usually in 10-50GB range IIRC.
If the CMR cache part fills up, then you are fucked basically and the write performance goes to unimagenably low level.
As in "wait multiple minutes for few bytes written".
Raid-1 is supposed to be a mirrored pair.. no striping. That's why I figured they might be okay
And most RAID solutions, even software ones will start kicking the drives out of the array as broken.
And if it is the OS drive even on single drive, you are completely out of luck.
Still syncs to same state when created.
And when you replace one drive, the others contents are copied to the new drive in one go.
So whole drive write in both cases.
replacing the drive it'll be a fresh drive which smr doesn't have issues with?
Works fine in any kind of RAID after the array has been initialized, doesn't need drive replacement, and never is written too much to get into that "CMR cache full" state.
SMR has problem with too many writes in too short duration.
And RAID array drive replacement always involves full-drive write to the new drive.
Which takes multiple DAYS for 1TB SMR drive IIRC.
While the drive will seem to be dead most of the time.
To whatever is sending the data.
Ah. The tech behind smr seems neat at least
There's host managed smr. But that's not something we'll have at home
Yes, but it needs to write the whole huge block again each time single bit is changed in there.
And that block size starts from possibly gigabytes, to tens of gigabytes.
And there is just couple of blocks worth of CMR cache.
Everything goes into the CMR, until there is blocks worth, then that block is written to the SMR part.
So yes, the host managed SMR has its place.
But the drive makers pushed to the drive managed SMR for those who don't know enough, to save little.
And didn't even pass those savings to the buyers.
And the drive managed SMR just cannot handle large writes.
They also can get fragmented on HW level.
Because they support TRIM and do same kind of LBA to actual storage address rejigging as SSDs do.
But while SSDs can access any address at same speed, SMR HDDs still have the seek times to switch locations.
So now if you don't write the whole file again each time, and only change some of the contents, you get HW level file fragmentation.
In the commands the OS sends to the drive.
Not sure on how granular level that LBA rejigging is in them.
Imposter is Sus.
You typoed the christmas
why AKG?
Supposedly really good audio
since they got bought in 2016 they've been kinda shit
and also the cheapest material you can find
my akgs broke after droppping them once lmao
i would say maybe don't drop your headphones, but if my headphones can't handle the occasional accidental abuse i put them through, they aren't good headphones for me
Model over brand
That's like saying "don't buy Corsair PSU, mine broke"
When GS is looking at RM750e and you had VS550
My man AKG got bought by Samsung
There is a very clear cut where their quality dropped
Does it apply to that one specific model?
I mean fair enough, the K371 aren't known for their build quality
Unless you know it does, your point is moot
yes
and also the whole brand
AKG as a brand is on the same level as JBL now
What's the next best closed back headphones if AKG is out?
Depending on your use case
beats π
Correct
Apparently Google nags now when you open the photo app... subscribe for editing effects! Turn on Google backup..
Fuckoff.
Yeah, google/samsung have pushed me to the point where I'll be installing a new os on my next phone
Got a new setup what yall think
Bro ure a genius
congrats
didn't even need a desk
but where you gonna put your food?
juices, coca-cola or pepsi, water
meat or grapes
Didn't LTT test this once and find out it didn't help cuz the PC overwhelmed the cooling capacities of the fridge?
yes
refrigerators are not meant to be on 100% of the time
You need really beefy chillers to actually cool a PC
Smth like this for a custom looped PC: shop.alphacool.com/en/shop/chiller/devices/11371-alphacool-eiszeit-2000-chiller-black
Costs 1k+obvious operating costs
Can handle a high power PC
My friends RM750 exploded though, fully commited to seasonic then
would've been funny if Seasonic was the RM750 OEM, but it's CWT
Our brains work the same way lmao
I should note it wasnt my first problem with bad oem corsair badge
I got scammed over a "server" psu, it got removed from even any advertising material soon, it was that bad
IIRc good corair psus usually are coming from seasonic
Corsair is mostly CWT, seasonic made some really old models
ok
And there are some other OEMs as well, but mostly CWT
RMx and HX-i should be the highest quality corsair CWT models
Flextronics made AX-i and AX1200, seasonic made the rest of the AX
HX is a mix of seasonic and CWT, but CWT made all of the platinum models and most of the gold.
But yeah, it's funny to see people referencing one wattage model and then call the whole lineup good, even though it's not rare for a single lineup to have multiple OEMs

Going to test drive a Bolt if anyone has any curiosities. But mostly, how far off MSRP do you think I can go? There are two dealers in town I can go to.
Oh boy. Have fun
Tentative theory is to get that juicy tax credit, then dump it in 35 months into 36 month warranty.
If you do get it, i want to live electric cars.. I'm afraid that's the only way to own one though
They're junk.
Most new vehicles are junk. I tow more newer stuff from the 2020s than I do >2016
What are the faults getting them towed?
i can't believe how many brand new cars i see with their center brake light out
it's like it's 1985 again
Fuel modules on gm vehicles. Misc electrical/computer issues on others
Very few mechanical issues
Heh, computer issues checks out.
GM should never have moved away from their small blocks
Even the door locks on new cars have can modules
Other than my classic convertible I pretty much stick to new cars under warranty, so I'm not too concerned.
It's silly. It's not just chips in everything. It's SoC's in everything
yeesh
Door locks with atmel microcontroller
yea, i'm waiting to see what the new electric Equinox is like & comparing it to the Bolt EUV before making any kind of decision
Fuel moduels with several atmel SoC's
And worse, Tesla has one system for the whole car. Which is great for cutting costs, but honestly I think it's great to have windows, locks, and the like in separate subsystems. Because then nothing else can screw them up and vice versa.
teslas are rolling garbage near as i can tell
Back when I had my Model X, occasionally it wouldn't let me roll the windows all the way up.
30 minute partial disassembly to get to the 12v battery
It would literally pop them down 2 inches from the top after I rolled it all the way up. Each time I had to call in to get them to reset something. It only happened three times in the 3 years I had it. But that's still three times too many for a very stupid issue to have in the first place.
my car is cheap & old, & except for it being small, i love it
worst thing it's needed is new hoses
& that's because the originals lasted 15 years
2003 civic btw π€£
i sat in a 2023 a couple months ago, & i have more room in mine
& yes, i'm tempted to just spend a stupid amount of money to electrify it
i'd love to see the math on how much cheaper it supposedly is to just ECU & module everything, then having to do stupid amounts of maintenance on it, vs just doing mechanical systems
i just want my stuff to be dumb
yup
i dont care about having android auto
someone needs to make a car with no touchscreen, but a dock for your phone, & window cranks
windows cranks is too far, basic unsmart electric works just fine
What will be good is when you can finally retrofit more cars for electric. Big dumb old cars and put only a drivetrain in it.
i know there's a company in CA that sells electric versions of crate engines to drop into classic cars
i know my car could do it fairly easily, since it had a hybrid variant
if ford & toyota were smart, they'd start making electric conversions for their vehicles & set aside some of those dwindling dealership mainenance bays for it
they have the blueprints, they could probably figure it out
probably costs them too much
someone has declared it costs them too much
i would assume its the engineering costs
or they're worried about safety putting it in older vehicles
i do wonder what a gas-tank sized battery would range on older cars
definitely not 300 miles
but even if my car got half the range, i wouldn't mind being able to plug it in at the house
they were lying sacks of shit about the range & fuel economy anyway
LOL they claim 36/44 for my civic, in reality i'm lucky to get 30
my sister has 0 idea about physics & is waiting for an SUV that gets at least 50mpg
because she doesn't want an electric
suv, and 50mpg should never be in the same sentence unless there is a negative somewhere
Just keep up with changing the timing belt and your good
I guess she will never be happy
They've already taken out spare tires and made their gas tanks smaller to get to where they are.
You would need to use some very expensive space age materials to get the weight down enough. If those materials even exist at any cost.
Guys dont waste your time with x3d cpu for endgame factories, Ive checked tests for other factory games and the x3d cache runs out at one point, and if you have like 8000mhz tuned ram on 14900k ( this can be achieved on any decent motherboard ) it will just kill amd in endgame either way
Because a 14900k with 8000mhz ram on a z790 is better value than a 7800x3d with 6000mhz ram on a b650
Sure
Its not about value
where i said anything about value?
btw you dont need 14900k to beat x3d
because this is mainly about ram oc
as long as you get something thats not a meme so like not 5200mhz on ddr5 but 7000+
Obviously per watt performance of 7800x3d is unbeatable
and it doesnt need AIO to keep boosted clock
AMD's power consumption is really impressive relative to intel
AMD is also on a much more advanced manufacturing process so it's to be expected.
The Bolt felt good! I didn't care for the suspension in it all too much. But it's not a sports car, and for the price, I might have one in the first week of next year. I've also got a state EV incentive.
7500 fed, 2500 state, and there's a Costco membership discount possibly? That was new to me and I need to figure that out. It doesn't look like it's up right now, but they told me it might be.
I need to wait till the first week of the year to buy for the state incentive anyway. So maybe the Costco one will come back
check with GM too, because iirc they'll also help pay to install a charger
Imagine having am5/lga1700
This post is sponsored by AM4 gang
Somehow still not completely dead even tho it very much should be
Should be?
Amd has AM5 now
And yet development is still continuing to an extent on am4
There's two more cpus in the works as of a week ago iirc
Both X3D chips
I makes me slightly curious
its not
If they're just getting rid of inventory that already exists, it makes perfect sense.
Mabey just odd ball cpus that dont bin properly
Makes sence ig
10nm vs 5nm iirc
thats just marketing terms
Not just marketing terms
Intel has been trying to sell its fab capacity for years. I will believe they have a competitive node when they get external customers.
it is
That's cool and all but intel is only 2D while AMD is 3D which is obviously better
Larger the node, more heat output per transistor
Isint amd already trying to dabble into 3nm
what do you think the nm stands for
Nanometer
but what exactly in the silicion
"no meaning" since Finfet.
Fair
yea
No Masters
and monolithic design is still better for games
Ehh
Ehhhhh
Not entirely true
Your data might be a bit outdated
intel has no memory controller issues so they can get 8000mhz ez and have good latence between cores
what data, zen has still the same latency problem it had
The latency is already negligable
I could see something like that on vermeer
Where ram and Imc clock are much lower
And if I were to decouple ram clock and Imc clock
But ryzen 7000 compensated for that issue
sold fab capacity is more about process advancement
And latency between cores is again negligable
Also Intel being 20% more expensive for a negligible improvement in a few rare scenarios doesn't help
When it comes out to benches it has had very little effect majority of the time. So ccds aren't a detriment to prefomance
And Intel can't afford to expand capacity because nobody wants to buy from them. Because their processes are inferior. They don't have the same top end performance as TSMC, for which they could command whatever price they wanted. And they can't compete on cost with their less advanced processes.
And honestly are probably vastly superior to monolithic die in the terms of ability to spread out heat along a larger overall surface area
Making the ihs more effective
am5 ihs isnt so effective
Intel themselves admit they are behind on fab technology. Pat has tons of speeches where he talks about when they're going to retake the lead from TSMC in 2026 I think? If they can stick to their development cadence, and we should all hope for that because competition is good.
I mean a 7800X3D can be completely aircooled and hold boost. Wile Intels competing chips cannot even under watercooling half the time
they are at a good spot
misinformation
No Intel is factually behind
well yes I guess if you will use all cores on crappy aio
I would disagree that Intel is at a good spot based on their own earnings reports. Data center revenue falling behind client is particularly bad for them. That's why they keep canceling things like Optane, they don't have all those data center profits to fund r&d and prop up other sectors.
Even with watercooler it's a decent struggle to not get a 14900K to not throttle.
I meant that they they have goverment supported fabs that will get built
Don't get me started about power useage
and once they are built they will rise again
Are they built now? Are they being used now?
Ah so not a now thingy
And amd will have another generation like the 5000 series come out and blast Intel out of the water again.
And Intel has one military contract to use those fabs. But they have the benefit of the national security angle to be a customer of the United States DOD. Selling to anyone else is going to be harder.
what i care about is this, if you dont like powerdraw or tinkering memory just pretend that this doesnt exist
At what price point does Intel win?
thhat carries over to other games too but obviously you will spend a little time and money
It's a singular frame
No
40% is insignificant?
The amount of power draw and cost to even get the chip
For almost 200% the power draw
That's a terrible trade off
no intel 4 cores will not eat 3x the power
Sure you may be super fucking fast. But at what cost to your bills.
I just want to know how much more you need to spend on RAM and the CPU to tie, let alone beat it. You can even leave out power for this part of the question.
ram costs the same
only record hunters are buying some crazy binned ram
why are you bringing up stock
im talking about maxing out the performance from a game
if you want to run stock just buy amd
the cost different is mostly in powerdraw and cooling but yea, it is what it is
And the improvement is in a very few select scenarios. Most of the time AMD will still be the better choice for money/performance
If you want to play that game there are other generations like Kaby and Rocket you should subtract.
It's quite litterally a better bin of 13th Gen other than the 14700k
Bet
Whats the number then
3
Bro
its not few select scenarios, most games probably benefit from ram speeds
?
Bro, your at such high framerates anyway why does it matter
are you clowning on yourself
The 7950x3D is faster than a 8600k
yea just run 60hz monitor
and dont bother
I would say 6 to 11 could be collapsed into three generations. So that's three less. I feel like you could also get rid of fifth generation.
144 is nice
So 10.5 Gen 14900k
That's not even x3D
The interesting thing is it's not that stuff like Kaby had no improvements. It's just that they only showed up in laptops. It's possible there will be improvements in laptops from 14th gen.
or do i need to mark it for you that this is about how ram speeds affect intel
No that's quite literally worse
Smashing my PC with a sledgehammer also affects CPU performance
you have no reading comprehension, seems fair
I see the diffrence
Dw
I'm saying that that is a unfair matchup
Sry anime pfp
Can we get a before and after video π€
But to be completely honest
You can ride Intels dick all you like.
I donr care about either brand
I care abt pref at stock
And how can I cool it
I've managed to make a 5600 do 4.65ghz all core turbo at 60c
And it sustain the turbo
I mean. To be fair I could try pushing farther
As I'm already at a 3rd of the pref of a 13700k
Might as well try to close the gap a bit more
I wonr match it ik
But mabey I might be able to hit 4.7ghz ACT If I try picking around for beta bioses and shit
I'm still surprised how the actual fuck my cpu runs that cold wile at full throttle
I co sidered ocing my phone but it's basically not gonna be enough to actually improve the prefomance in certain areas enough
No, only few specific golden sample chips in even 14th gen can do 8000MT/s.
About 5%?
In fact AMD with AGESA 1.0.0.7b or newer in Gear 2 equivalent (which is Intel default) can do 8000MT/s more reliably now.
Mostly Intel 13th and 14th gen CPUs cap at around 7200-7400MT/s on 4 memory slot MBs and 7600-7800MT/s on two memory slot MBs.
I still find it amazing we already hit the 3600mhz sweet spot of ddr4 in ddr5
As in that we hit double the old sweet-spot?
kind of
3600MT/s / 1800MHz to 7200MT/s / 3600MHz?
ddr5 at least doubling have some downside
but the downside is none once we have double effectively
