The PSU knows the internal temperature of itself.
The load curve is easy to market.

night girder
#

PSU knows how much is being drawn.

twin dew
#

But in reality there is also temperature component, that kicks in if the load curve doesn't provide enough cooling,.

#

I'm not saying that that base load curve doesn't exist.

night girder
#

for 750 watt at 225 watt the fans kick in.

#

in theory.

twin dew
#

I just say there is also temperature based control that kicks in to up the fan above that if the base curve isn't enough to actually keep the components cool.

#

And that is causing the PSUs to cycle the fan on desk for several Primes I have run before putting them in case.

night girder
#

Understand, I am just saying. With my cheapo seasonic it doesn't happen. hehe

twin dew
#

Because the room temperature was 23-25C, and there was just the convective airflow.

night girder
#

my room is 23 right now.

twin dew
#

Or you didn't notice?
Because you cannot hear it.
Need to specifically look into the PSU to see it.

night girder
#

I feel ikt.

dusk rivet
night girder
#

I press button -> airflow to my hand.

#

I press button again -> no airflow to my hand.

#

You can use a paper too. It's pretty visible.

#

and I can even hear it a tiny bit.

twin dew
#

And did you keep your hand there for 5+ minutes?

night girder
# dusk rivet chilly

The humidity is too high in my room (70%) so all i can do is heat it up to get rid of the hunidty a bit.

twin dew
#

Because the speed it runs without the hybrid is much faster than those momentary pulses.

#

As it never got to full minimal speed

night girder
#

I can install a piece of toilet paper behind it to monitor 🤣

dusk rivet
#

i’d rather it be cold and humid than hot and humid

#

also wouldn’t that cause the relative humidity to go up?

night girder
#

It dropped from 70 to 60% humidity.

#

And I have airflow mode on my windows.

dusk rivet
#

23 is getting into the “i should wear pants in the house” territory

#

15c is “i should start a fire on my couch” territory

Anything over 20 is a little unpleasant sometimes

woeful saffron
#

If i open my window my room gets to like 10c in just a few minutes

dusk rivet
#

18c is definitely hoodie and sweatpants time

night girder
#

Yeah, I do agree. But what option do I have 🙂

#

I could buy* a dehumidifier. But that requires power and emptying the waterreservoir every day.

jagged snow
dusk rivet
#

one school i was at for a bit had dehumidifiers in every room

dusk rivet
night girder
#

and the other room very dry?

twin dew
#

First humidifier is already running.
Will need to turn more on later in the winter.

#

Filling them twice a day is pain...

night girder
#

You don't like a moist room?

dusk rivet
twin dew
#

Define "moist"?
I like my room humidity above 10%?

#

Preferrably 20-40%

dusk rivet
#

minimum 30% is comfortable

night girder
#

I wonder how many of you have books and stuff 😄

twin dew
#

And without the humidifiers it goes below 5%.

dusk rivet
night girder
#

it's the main reason I do it. To preserve paper.

twin dew
#

If the air is too dry, paper becomes brittle and tears - in air that is too damp, it becomes rippled and 'spongy'. A relative air humidity of 60-65% is therefore recommended for the optimal storage of books and other written documents.

night girder
#

Aslong as it's between 5% and 95%. We all good 🤣

twin dew
#

So your room is pretty moist still.

night girder
#

and what I posted are the requirements for 920 synology NAS.

night girder
twin dew
#

Yes, 5-95% is the common in electronics specs.

#

Non-condensing usually added.

night girder
#

It's the dumbest thing I've ever read.

twin dew
#

But point is, here where the outside air goes below 0C, the room humidity goes insane low.

#

If you don't add water with tech.

jagged snow
#

Or with wood heat

night girder
#

Damn, don't have that problem.

#

Only a few days in the year go below 0.

twin dew
#

So going below that 5% relative humidity is possible without dehumidifiers here.

#

During winter.

dusk rivet

central heating and ac is amazing

#

It highly depends on the context/where you live.

“You agree that you will not sell or otherwise attempt to sell the Vehicle within the first year following your Vehicle’s delivery date,” the company wrote in the legally binding document. #

Btw, Baldur, if you didn't go to bed yet. You were 100% right about the european satelites.

#

This week EU asked SpaceX how much it would cost for SpaceX to launch EU satelites into space.

#

And you predicted it that EU probably would ask spaceX to launch the satelites since it would take way longer if EU has to do that itself.

#

Lex Fridman is smart person. Maybe he doesn't care about the politics of Elon, but he is interested in his thinking?

#

I know nobody would agree. But for a lot of people, Elon is still a interesting alternative thinker.

#

I don't think Lex Fridman cares about that.

#

And other reasons, but I am not in the mood to explain that. It's actual sometimes wise to listen to opposite views/opinions.

#

You can learn a lot. Don't be closed minded.

#

and atleast now Lex can say, I met Elon and tbh he is x or y.

#

Everyone in here with an opinion (including me) never met the guy so 🤷‍♂️

#

What alternatives do we have?

#

Bill Gates? Zuck Zuckerberg ? That amazon guy?

#

No. Not heard about that

#

I thought the public opinion on those two are pretty bad. One is being accused of putting microchips into the vaccin.

#

The other one is accused of being an awfull human or something, I don't know. I really didn't pay close attention to Zuckerberg downfall.

#

But yeah, there aren't a lot of leaders or pioneers to look up to in the tech industry.

#

Like "guru's". People with power. People who say: "don't do this" and the world actually listens to that advice 😄

#

Youtube has kittens.

#

Have you seen the videos where claims are made that YT war against addblockers. Made addblockers way better?

#

Louis Rossman also has a video about it 😄

#

I pay for addblocker.

#

Oh, I paid once for a very good addblocker.

#

pretty sure YT has no chance against my addblocker, the way it's implemented, unless YT is going to install code on my machine to read my disk. But then we get into the spyware territory and YT is legal dead if it does that.

#

You mean the content creators who make all their revenue with "Today's sponsor..." ?

#

the internet is a shitshow without one.

#

like walking into a casino. Too many incentives.

#

Imagine reading a book, but every page it contains adds.

#

Would drive me nuts. I can't concentrate. That's the feeling I have when surfing the web and I need to concentrate and read stuff.

twin dew
#

And that was pretty common term for some automakers in US during the car shortages during COVID times, as the automakers had prematurely cut down on ordering of electronic parts, expecting downturn in sales.
If the specific automaker wasn't allowing the shops to raise prices.

night girder
#

I fully support innitiatives like Netflix. But that also went downhill quickly.

#

95% feels like garbage. And 5% is solid stuff to watch. So every 6 months I watch one or two good things on Netflix and that's it.

#

I love nasa+ 😄

#

it's funny that I find more escapism in space documentaries/science than in fantasy/mediaval tv shows 🤣

#

ancient aliens do make sense. Has to do that science is unsure how our DNA evolved so quickly. So some think maybe our DNA was already evolved at one point and then get transfered to this planet etc.

#

There is also a time gap after the big bang, that almost 90% of the planets had conditions for life.

#

Different temperature in the universe etc etc.

#

4 billion years ago, the string of our DNA was already impossible (according to scientists).

#

and I mean the string of DNA of a single cell bacteria.

#

so explain it, how can a single cell already had such a complex string of DNA?

#

and then enters: space aliens 😄

#

and to science space aliens can be anything. Single cell stuff. It doesn't have to have arms and legs like we have.

#

Btw; not saying I believe it. But the documentary I watched this week had some good points.

#

So if they trace it all bnack, the start of a functional genome should be 10-9 billions years ago.

#

Before the "birth" of earth as we know it.

#

because they figured out that the genomes multiplied by a set amount over a set amount of time.

#

so if they reversed engineered it, that's what the conclussion was. Ah. Gotta love science.

#

It's better then science fiction ... but still ... science fiction 🤣

#

the universe is ageless?

#

before the big bang, there was the universe.

#

I see ancient life more like life we couldn't even see with our eyes.

#

There might be a chance there was highly intelligent life, who knows, ... but I think the chance is bigger it was all on microscopic level.

#

I have a hard time believing in the multiverse to be honest.

#

All documentaries I watched about it, always make weird logical jumps. "So if we can open a wormhole. And then we go through the wormhole." ... and those two sentences already contain like 1 billion falacies.

#

our universe is expanding by a matter that science doesn't understand.

#

"dark matter" ... Science: we know nothing of it. Only that it keeps increasing.

#

Nothing in the KNOWN universe has unlimmited power to grow.

#

Even black holes have an end date. So I doubt black matter can reproduce limitless.

#

Whatever it is. Science is just in the dark on the subject of dark matter.

#

One of the theories is that after the dark matter or whatever is going on that pushes us apart ... if that runs out that gravitiy might pull us back together.

#

and over billions years we will all colide into one giant soup which eventually will be the new big bang.

#

and then the cycle restarts.

#

it's a very niche science. Not much proof of it.

#

Mostly numbers on paper.

#

exactly!

#

Have you seen the video of our planets history in an hour?

#

It's an hour of watchign almost NOTHING and then at the last second humans/apes apear 🤣

#

but I watched it fully though 😄

#

Yes, I was able to sit through it.

#

Was so interesting to put in perspective what we are on the scale of time.

#

like to the universe, we are non existing 🤣

#

I really should support kurzgesagt. They make amazing good videos.

#

The subjects of the videos challenges me sometimes, it can be fringe science, but I loved that it brings me out of my comfort zone.

#

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdFf5PRPE9g This video explores 4 possibilities. Big Freeze. Big Crunch. Big Rip and Big Change.

SEA

Our universe is not forever. We know that our universe is expanding, and the galaxies of the universe are getting further and further away. In this second video on the timeline of the universe, we look forward, and analyse the possible ways in which the universe may come to an end, and the science and evidence behind each.

All should be based on science (should).

#

the more I learn about science, the more I don't care about climate change. I mean. Worst case scenario. It ends civilization and humanity as we know.

#

Which gives us a change to reset and learn from our mistakes.

#

I know out planet will just keep doing it's thing.

#

So I am happy to know earth and nature will probably survive 😄

#

insane right? And there was no seas. It had to rain for million of years to form seas.

#

it also rained down meteors for a few million years.

twin dew
#

@inner shalePoint is to not allow rich people to buy cars when they are scarce, and immediately sell them for much higher price.
"Used" cars were going up to twice the price of new one during the bad days in some cases.

#

As in car just driven off the lot and flipped.

night girder
#

But how can Tesla justify this?

#

Liquidated damages? sounds like a lot of "we just want money".

twin dew
#

With some makes it was the dealerships selling for much higher prices to get that extra money.
Some didn't allow dealers to do that and implemented such sales terms.

#

And Tesla is doing the same, the terms are pretty much the same as back then.

night girder
#

I am not worried, don't intent to buy a Tesla 🙂

twin dew
#

Try to prevent resales during first year of ownership, to prevent people buying them to just flip them when they are scarse.

night girder
#

they will survive, they have money to pay for people that have skills.

night girder

twin dew
night girder
#

and also, GPU's are being bought and flipped.

twin dew
#

When the only supplier (the car maker) doesn't raise prices to max, but puts terms.

#

To not allow others to take advantage of them not maxing the prices.

night girder
#

What I wanted to point out is: Tesla clausule in their sale seems anti free market to me hehe

#

Competition and self-interest regulates the free market hehe

#

What can compete with Tesla space 4x4?

twin dew
night girder
#

No, thank you 🙂

#

You do realize you need both right for it to work?

twin dew
#

If it was the government or some outside actor forcing that term, then it would be anti-free market.
But the maker putting that isn't.

night girder
#

I mean, the free market is a shell of what the theory said it was suspose to be.

#

Same fate as communism. All nice on paper. But the execution, totally different.

night girder
#

and then they also say: you can't resell it the first year. 🤨

#

Sounds like a monopoly.

twin dew
#

Yes? the specific car maker has monopoly on the specific model.
Like in anything, the maker has monopoly on the exact thing.
The point is that you have competing makers.

night girder
#

nvm. Seems my gut feeling was correct.

#

they removed it hehe

twin dew
#

Each seller can set whatever terms, the buyer then chooses if they want to buy from the seller, or go to someone else.

#

Tesla has monopoly on Cybertruck.
But doesn't have monopoly on even electric pickups.

night girder
#

never said Tesla was doing something illigal.

#

I know perfectly well they are within their rights.

#

Doesn't mean it's not anti free market.

twin dew
#

The point of free market is that the companies can do whatever.
And the regulators don't limit that.
And the theory is that if one company does something stupid, buyers just go elsewhere.

dire igloo
night girder
twin dew
#

Yes, because free market is illusion.

night girder
#

Then what are we even discussing 🤣

twin dew
#

The theory expects that everyone has perfect information and new company can just pop up.

#

And start churning out same thing.

dire igloo
#

also, even if it worked, it'd still miss its goals due to individual interests

twin dew
#

And that is why there needs to be requlation.

dire igloo
#

monopolies make more money

night girder
#

Theory also consider humans to be rational creatures.

#

Yet everyone keeps buying overpriced Nvidia GPU's hehe

twin dew
#

Because the natural state of unregulated free market is monopolies.

#

In real world.

dire igloo
night girder
#

So we are willing to give more money and power to monopolies and at the same time, fuck ourselves over by increasing the prices of products we buy?

dire igloo
#

as long as everyone acts in their own self-interest, the consumers will suffer

night girder
#

We our shooting ourself in the foot here. We as a society.

twin dew
#

No, if patents etc. didn't exist and starting to churn something out was free, and the perfect information actually existed so everyone just magically knew the actual differences between the products.

night girder
twin dew
#

Oh, this thing has bad bearing that will fail in three years, that one will last 20.
When the product has been on market for less than a week.

#

That type of information, just automatically in your head.
Is what the theory expects.

night girder
#

but companies lie...

#

how is consumer even to make a good calculation of a product based on lies.

twin dew
#

And you have part of why the theory is just ridiculous.

night girder
#

I still find the theory interesting tbh.

#

And what else do we have 🤷‍♂️

dire igloo
#

because lack of regulation means anyone that gets a smidge of power can snowball it

night girder
#

what a mess have we made of the "free economic market"

#

Watching the video now. Also I just realized is that a while ago, I saw a docu and there was an ice age happening when there was already life. And then the documentary was like "euh, science doesn't know how we surived that" 🤣

#

maybe life survived deep inside the earth where it was still warm? 🤔

#

Around 700 million years ago, the Earth experienced the most severe ice age of its history, threatening the survival of much of the planet's life. Previous research has suggested that oxygen-dependent life may have been restricted to meltwater puddles on the surface of the ice, but this study provides new evidence of oxygenated marine environments.

night girder
#

Watching your video Maxeek makes me question, is it possible a second highly intelligent life-form would evolve from one of the animals we already know? And I am speaking over the processes of million years?

#

I mean, in theory... it's possible?

#

Like if we were tiny manmals flying from tree branch to tree branch eating fruits, while the ground was dominated by dinosaurs.

#

It's almost sounds our ancestors were squirel monkeys?

#

and if humans can evolve from squirrels monkeys, anything has to be possible 🤣

#

it's based on bones/science so far.

#

pergatorus sounds plausible tbh.

#

but on the bright side, science gives us a glimps.

#

While maybe flawed, I rather have a semi-flawed view than no view at the past.

#

and good science is all based on facts, evidence and logic.

night girder
#

I never noticed the interesting aspects of space. "What is so interesting about the big nothingness outside our planet" but then I started to watch Neil Degrasse Tyson videos and his passion in infectious. And eye opening. So much we can learn from space to learn more about our own past and future!

its what i believe ......

night girder
#

A lot of time this is how it's represented:

#

wouldn't it also mean it would curve at side 2 and we get ... a loop?

charred pewter
#

while it may seem fanciful, i generally do consider it a possibility

night girder
#

How? I mean ... one side of space can't be bending and the other side going on foreever?

charred pewter

i dont think time has a definite 'begin' and 'end' ... it just loops around on itself eventually and everything plays over again

and if it doesn't bend then we don't have a rosen bridge

but i think the whole thing about wormhole theory, is that space can be bent to where two points become the same location, and you simply pass across ... BUT since 'space' and 'time' are ... the same thing(?), it gets confusing

night girder
#

For some reason it seems more sciencefiction than science. And I know I have been talking about fringe science. But this wormhole theory is a hard pill for me to swallow.

dire igloo
#

You can have an infinitely maneuverable finite surface by being on a Torus

night girder
#

So it would mean we can travel only from specific points to specific points?

charred pewter
#

the center of a torus, is 'the big bang' ... the outter edges are when the universe stops expanding and begins pulling back in on itself again to have another big bang

night girder
#

I mean, if space is a Torus. I can see how we can travel like the first arrow. But we cannot travel throught he middle since there is no space and time 😄

charred pewter
#

well, one does not travel through the ''empty tube' part of a torus, you travel on the outer surface

#

the center, pulled together is the shortest distance

#

now, the part i do have trouble understanding is the whole "fly at near light speed away and people age differently" ... bit, because if you fly back, 'you havnt aged, but everyone else aged 100 years' ... that kinda ... doesnt make much sense to me

charred pewter
#

wouldnt the act of flying back catch you up to their time

night girder
#

you don't age differently when traveling at the speed of time.

charred pewter
#

right, its the part i have trouble wrapping my noggin around

night girder
#

if not mistaken its the perception of time that changes.

twin dew
#

Well, you don't age differently in a way, but to outside observer you age slower than if you were moving slower.

#

So go somewhere fast, come back, you are younger than those left behind.

#

In every way that matters except timekeeping on the place you left and returned to.

night girder
#

So in your question, an astronaut returning from a space journey at “relativistic speeds” (where the effects of relativity start to manifest—generally at least one-tenth the speed of light) would, upon return, be younger than same-age friends and family who stayed on Earth. Exactly how much younger depends on exactly how fast the spacecraft had been moving and accelerating, so it’s not something we can readily answer. But if you’re trying to reach an exoplanet 10 to 50 light-years away and still make it home before you yourself die of old age, you’d have to be moving at close to light speed.

#

👆 It's information like that. It creates confusion.

charred pewter
#

😄

night girder
#

How the hell can traveling at the speed of life, reduce the degredations of our cells?

#

because getting old is just that...

twin dew
#

Yes, because the travel would take so long even in the travelers perspective that he would have time to die of old age.

night girder
#

Hence I noted that it's the perception of time.

#

Because if it's true, does that mean if we travel at the speed of light forever, we are immortal?

#

Because magically we stop getting old.

#

Seems a bit far fetched imo.

charred pewter
#

btw, i still hold to the idea that 'we CAN travel faster than light' .... because light is just a boundry, like the speed of sound

twin dew
#

And you age normally.

charred pewter
#

a 'time machine' would be just spining at light speed, then getting out and youve travelled into the future

night girder
#

If I leave planet earth at the age of 30. I go travel through space for 50 years at 1/10 the speed of light, after 50 EARTH YEARS, I return. My body would show signs of it being 80 years old and not 30 or 40.

charred pewter
#

to go into the past, you have to travel so long that you pass through the time loop and end somewhere that happens before when you left 😉

night girder
#

pretty sure Einstein theory is riddle with paradoxes by now.

#

grandfather paradox for example.

charred pewter
#

i cant wait till we make the breakthrough of gravity drives ....

night girder
#

I wonder what Einstein would say about his own theories, with modern day knowledge.

charred pewter
#

i think he would stick to them

night girder
#

You think?

charred pewter
#

he didnt die THAT long ago ...

night girder
#

That is true.

#

But you also agree that technology/knowledge/science is going fast?

charred pewter
#

its going fast, but not in all the right directions

night girder
#

Einstein didn't have AI computers for example 😉

#

Einstein didn't have a way to actually go to space. Probably the first thing he wants to do is visit the space station 😄

charred pewter
#

but he would sit and laugh at how we 'still' travel to space ...

night girder
#

The telescope we have now are WAY stronger.

twin dew
night girder
#

I am not sure, but did einstein knew about black matter?

charred pewter
#

dark matter ?

night girder
#

Was it a thing back then? Or was it after he died science started to talk about dark matter?

twin dew
#

For actual aging, only YOUR time speed matters.

night girder
#

My brain just says no. Doesn't make sense.

twin dew
#

Time doesn't move at universal speed.

charred pewter
#

for "dark" matter, yes einstein knew... dunno about black matter

night girder
#

I know it doesn't.

#

Our body will age the same way.

#

I cannot believe that traveling at the speed of light REDUCES the degredation of your body cells.

#

but I can be wrong. It just doesn't click into my head. Feels way to unnatural and full with paradoxes and unanswered questions.

night girder
twin dew
#

Only your personal time actually matters, and that depends on speed and mass etc.

night girder
#

I am pretty sure I even heard Neil say that it doesn't work like that.

charred pewter
#

our bodies are made up of electrons, protons, neutrons ...

night girder
#

but it's hazzy.

charred pewter
#

or, if you wanna go smaller, we are made up of electrons and quarks (that we know of)

night girder
#

Degrasse Tyson.

charred pewter
#

im pretty sure once they bust open a quark, they will find a ton more smaller things

night girder
#

Yeah, I heard of quarks.

#

But wouldn';t this mean that every time we just travel (at whatever speed) it has a tiny tiny amount of impact on our aging process/time?

charred pewter
#

personally, i think its an infinite depth of things making up things, just as there is an infinite expanse of things making up bigger things

#

we are just > here < in the mix, and can only really measure around us

jagged snow
twin dew
night girder
#

This really blows my mind.

#

That is true.

#

But I meant. Traveling on earth itself.

#

Since earth is our gravity well and thus our time.

jagged snow
night girder
#

Yeah, I am always noding my head when watching the videos. UNTILL they start talking about aging or traveling through time.

jagged snow
#

I don't have a true understanding of it, I'm mostly just able to repeat what I've learned hehe

charred pewter
#

*if only we could tap into the boundless fountain that is gravitational energy ... *

twin dew
#

So if the personal time speed didn't matter, then slowing compared to galaxy/universe would make you age slower, in your own perception.

night girder
#

Then they lose my logically 😄

charred pewter
#

i mean, gravity itself

night girder
#

If I leave planet earth at the age of 30. I go travel through space for 50 years at 1/10 the speed of light, after 50 EARTH YEARS, I return. My body would show signs of it being 80 years old and not 30 or 40.

#

This is what I said. If I return to earth. How will my body look like?

jagged snow
night girder
#

It can be that in my perception I am 40 years old. (because of time travel speed)

#

but my body shows signs of 80 years old?

charred pewter
#

breaking an atom used to not be possible 😄

twin dew
#

And traveling near enough to speed of light would kill you "instantly", from your own perception of time slowing enough that the rest of your lifespan would be just seconds.

jagged snow
charred pewter
#

arnt they making dark matter now in that crazy collider too?

night girder
#

god particle

twin dew
#

And we already know that the frequency of atomic vibrations slows from outside perception, but stays the same from the movers perception when speed difference is high enough.
Atomic clocks on orbit.

night girder

No idea in total, but every source I saw says the clocks ran at just right speed in the first model too.

#

And that there had been some who didn't believe it would be needed.

If power connectors and connecting power to first two don't allow for PSU to turn on, then there is short in the card on something that those two connectors feed, but the third doesn't.

#

So GPU RMA if still in warranty.
Same from that old GPU still works.

#

Wouldn't boot with any config if PSU was faulty.
But it is good one that has overcurrent/shortcircuit protection for the 12V output.

#

So the card would be PCB component swap repairable.
But if it has warranty, then just use that.

sharp oasis
#

@twin dew quick random question. How much of a maginude does tmcgsngjnge the bclk by 1

#

Basically going from bclk 103- 104

#

As attempting to do so has resulted in a boot loop

#

So I am slightly curious where something went wrong

twin dew
#

Because raising Base Clock overclocks everything, including PCIe bus.

sharp oasis
#

Oh

#

Fuck

twin dew
#

SATA usually stops working at 101-102 MHz, PCIe at 103-104MHz.

sharp oasis
#

Oh.

twin dew
#

Unless you have MB that has multiple clock generators, that top end OC boards have.

sharp oasis
#

Could be reason for the bootloop I assume

twin dew
#

Yes.

sharp oasis
#

Is not the Cpu itself but is some other part

#

Ehh sata was Bootable at 102mhz

#

Still Bootable at 103

#

But 104 everything failed

#

And it's now in a cpu light boot loop

twin dew
#

Depends on the exact parts what the limits are.
And you might have had glitchy SATA already at 102 and would have had drive content corruption.

#

If it wasn't used as the boot drive.

sharp oasis
#

Cpu light blinks on

#

Attempts to boot

#

Cpu light blinks on

#

Attempts to boot

#

Repeat

twin dew
#

Just forget BCLK overclocking, please, above 101MHz.

#

That needs specialist MB, and lot of knowledge.

sharp oasis
#

Ig

#

I was tryna get a bit more boost out of my cpu

#

Bclk 102 was operable

#

Idk if it was fully stable I barely tested it lmao

twin dew
#

But you would need to test SATA stability already with that.
It can work but corrupt data.

#

And you really don't want that.

sharp oasis
#

Ik

twin dew
#

And you cannot test for that on drive in actual usage.

sharp oasis
#

I'll try bclk 102 with a disposable drive

#

And just load the drive with data transfer I assume

#

And see if it comes corrupted

twin dew
#

Yes, fill drive with data, then run compare between that and the original with the same settings.

sharp oasis
#

Will do it tomorrow

#

I'm tired

#

And I need to reset my cmos

twin dew
#

But there is no point in BCLK overclock unless you need to get the max turbo higher than what it otherwise can be.
Or want to get smaller steps in CPU frequency when doing static OC.

sharp oasis
#

I know it's marginal

#

Tho question

twin dew
#

And you are already at +200MHz offset for that?

sharp oasis
#

Yes

#

Are there any boards that come with a external clock generator

#

For am4

#

Or am I just quite simply screwed

twin dew
#

And remember that each MHz of BCLK will give tens of MHz of CPU clock.
For 5GHz turbo max 1MHz of BCLK would be 50MHz of CPU clock.

sharp oasis
#

Ik

#

I make sure to use a calculator

#

I also make sure to keep downclocking my ram frequency as the bclk goes up

#

Tryna keep it as close or beneath 3600mhz as possible

twin dew
#

Look for boards with eCLK support, there are some lists but expect the board cost to start from 400e or so.

#

And as I don't expect your computer to be really stable even with that +200MHz, I really don't see the point.

sharp oasis
#

Added a bit of voltage ofc

#

1.336v peak

twin dew
#

Tested with what?
Because you traditionally have only run all-core tests.

#

How many hours of even CoreCycler per core so far?

sharp oasis
#

Changing cores ever so often

#

All cores achieve 4.65ghz at turbo.

twin dew
#

So 2 hours (if 6 core) per core of single load?

sharp oasis
#

Yes

#

All cores achieved 4.65

#

Tho under higher thermal stress it Wil drop to 4.59ghz all core turbo

#

So +75c

#

With bclk 102 it was possible to see 4.71ghz tmsingle core turbos

#

@twin dew

#

Can I use a external sata controller to keep using sata

My Take - The problems they had last time (not all engines lit up, no separation etc) - fixed. Now for some new problems.

twin dew
#

All the engines did lit up, some just got destroyed by the pad concrete flying around in the first seconds.

#

They added that water deluge system and steel plates cooled by the previous to not have that happen again.
The parts were already waiting near the pad during last launch.

#

Just needed to get the rocket off the pad first, before they could install the stuff.

#

And they didn't move the rocket back to wait, but launched it instead, even when they knew they would probably get damaged engines.

#

Hardware rich development, the rocket on pad was already obsolete.

#

And that allowed them to find the later problems with the stage separation, and fix that for this run already.

how expensive was the pad rebuild

It going into automatic text attachment is ok.

@wanton orchid apparently windows 10 Pro does detect 2 cpus and and i have an extra copy of it to try out

Pro for Workstations supports 4 sockets.

Not sure about Enterprise.

Hasn't even tried to get help.

The game doesn't even start to the first logo before going full-screen.
So completely borked installation, as the system isn't with Intel IGP.

Something really broken on his/her computer.

#

Seemingly on the OS side.

night girder
#

Seems like a clean install (OS) could be a good cure then

twin dew
#

Bad at following multi-stage instructions (as expected).
Waiting for him/her to do the next asked thing after having to repost it.
And if that doesn't help, need to ask what OS.

#

Because there are still idiots using Win7 and even earlier.
That might just not work with UE 5.2.

night girder
#

Fixing a borked OS can be a rabbit hole

twin dew
#

Not going to go down that, just want to do some sanity checking.

#

Asked for game log, it isn't creating any.
Asked to delete the game install directory manually and install again.
That is now done.
Had also asked to deleted the config Saved except for saves, missed that and that has now been reasked.

#

And mentioned it seems to be very borked OS.

night girder
#

but they clearly state that update 7 worked no? So OS doesn't seem to be the issue? atleast not windows 7. I hope.

twin dew
#

Could easily be that U7 worked but U8 doesn't.

night girder
#

Or what was that they meant with "I went back to early access update 7..."

twin dew
#

Using different Windows APIs to some extend.

#

etc.

#

And that is first ever case where no log is made at all I have ever seen.

#

But if you have ideas for him, suggest.

night girder
#

update the drivers? 🤣

#

update windows?

twin dew
#

But the game creates the log file as one of the first steps it does, for a reason.

#

And if it doesn't get to even that step, and has Event Log crash instead...

night girder
#

so they have everything up to date?

twin dew
#

Ok, Win 10 some version, in theory latest GPU driver, 8GB of RAM.

night girder
#

tbf, they should all include that in their bug report

twin dew
upper plinth
#

They did include Win 10, Ram amount and GPU Driver version in the report, unless it was edited. Was to slow to respond to that part, so ignore this part of the message <
Also confirming that Geforce Experience reports that version driver as latest one of Game Ready drivers

night girder
#

a error with ICMP

twin dew
#

The Windows error contains that specific dll part of the game that the factorygame loads.

night girder
#

yeah indeed

twin dew
#

But basically the game faults during the very basic exe loading before it is actually ran.

#

FactoryGame-Icmp-Win64-Shipping.dll in the specific Event Log entry is probably red herring.

night girder
#

well... something happens.

#

we can't be sure if it's the game or OS, drivers, ...

twin dew
#

Something is completely fucked.
And not going to try to diagnose with so hostile person on the QA site.

night girder
#

Yeah wanted to say

twin dew
#

When it is one of a kind case.

night girder
#

the person seems to be really frustrated with this problem

twin dew
#

Yes, but it really doesn't help and trying to do anything like this through the QA site is real pain.
And I don't have even idea where to try to start when it fails before getting to even the basics.

night girder
#

Have you seen that one?

#

Problem signature:
P1: FactoryGame-Win64-Shipping.exe
P2: 5.2.1.0
P3: 652e8a7a
P4: FactoryGame-Icmp-Win64-Shipping.dll

twin dew
#

No, but seems to be identical.

night girder
#

Uhu.

twin dew
#

But the game starts with just the base engine loaded, then opens the log.
And only then starts to load the actual project specific things, plugins, datafiles etc.

night girder
#

game crashes before even that.

#

Windows cannot access the file for one of the following reasons: there is a problem with the network connection, the disk that the file is stored on, or the storage drivers installed on this computer; or the disk is missing. Windows closed the program FactoryGame because of this error.

#

But there is a high chance somethign totally else is causing this error.

twin dew
#

0xc000001d seems to be illegal instruction?
So probably another case of the Phenom II case but with different CPU?
Where it just doesn't support some needed instruction?

night girder
#

But so far it seems 3 people have the issue with update 7 to 8.

twin dew
#

That Phenom II one had about 5 so far?
But that gets to error dialog.

upper plinth
#

Could it be corrupted Visual C++ Distributable or .NET Framework package?
I'm not soo good at this stuff but this is a thing that came up in my mind, so better to share the idea snuttstach_think

twin dew
#

Nah, the illegal instruction should be inside that Faulting module path: E:\Games\SatisfactoryExperimental\Engine\Binaries\Win64\FactoryGame-Icmp-Win64-Shipping.dll

#

If it was some other library the game pulled, it would be listed on that instead.

night girder
#

Where is snutt when you need him 🤣

#

Seems something like he would figure out

twin dew
#

But I'm out for hour or so.

night girder
#

I mean, keep open mind, it is possibility it's an actual bug.

#

that the game has a bug and sending the wrong instruction to the cpu.

twin dew
#

Would be compiler bug then, not game bug.

#

To include crap into the compiled dll.

upper plinth
wanton orchid

here native means "the cpu the compiler is running on"

twin dew

Minimum spec is 3rd gen Intel Core.

Basically the game now requires AVX1, that was added to Bulldozer and 2nd gen core.
In 2011.

gilded helm
#

Whoa, there's a good old CPU. I remember those back when I used to be more into making Newegg lists for people.

wanton orchid
gilded helm
#

Honestly, I would hope Athlon 2 isn't supported. I get that people want to get as much life out of hardware as possible, but at some point you're holding everyone else back. And in this case, it's clear which side of the line it's on.

twin dew
#

Yes, requiring AVX1 is completely reasonable at this point.

wanton orchid
#

requiring AVX2 is completely reasonable at this point, remember it is high performance cpu game
ofcourse it will not run on gameboy colors

#

I mean I would like every cpu to have AVX512
but at least they ALL had AVX2 for a while now, any performance cpu has it now

twin dew
#

But 3rd gen Core doesn't have AVX2, so cannot be done for Satisfactory without minimum spec change.

#

Came in Haswell.

gilded helm
#

Intel set AVX 512 back :grumpy:

And Excavator for AMD.

assuming parts aren't thermal throttling, do temps actually affect performance?

wanton orchid

unstability wise yes, raw performance not that much

upper plinth

They definitelly affect life span of your components tho

so like having a component at 80c vs like 60c doesn't actually matter for like benchmarks
