You also can't go faster than that on apple for rendering
and he prolly never will
Bros gonna have the most Gpu bottleneck the world ever seen
RX7600 paired with a new Gen Threadripper
(Hes buying a new gpu anyway)
That's a pretty fast gpu for that sort of system actually
He also runs GPU rendering
Hello. I have notified the following with new version (maybe it was already there before) : when some object are fast moving, it looks like there is some kind of ghosting / transparent effect behind them.
Is this something that can be turned off ? If yes does it have any effect on performance ? It's probably some sort of optimization right ?
He has two gpus slotted a 1660 super and the 7600
HENCE WHY I SAID TO HIM
"JUST BUY A 4090 AT THIS POINT"
Like deadass
He oroginally wanted to make a SUper heavy productivity rig
and now he is
Wrong channel, #satisfactory or #1038092680493801533
like my man Im not gonna say what he renders as hes a complete Furry degenerate
OK no prob. I asked a video resolution related 5 min ago and get bounced here (eg: please go to #off-topic-tech )
Can you link to that?
i have defedently asked this before but whats even the point of SLI nowadays
Its not SLI
its using the gpus for renders
wdym on difrent mobos or what?
on same mobo
just being used as two Render devices
so he can dedicate a render job to one
and anothe render job to the other
and one more to the cpu
Yeah, you shouldn't have been directed here. Make a thread in #1038092680493801533 or ask in #satisfactory again and I'll try to help you out
but like is there still a point in running multiple gpu's in one system for just shear performance output
There are some scenarios where it's usefull, yes
rendering/datacenter applications as well as some proffesional applications
arent most cards not even compatible to do so?
All cards are able to do so
really?
You're confusing crossfire/sli with just having multiple cards in a system
so if i just throw in my 1660 into a lower pcie slot it will just in theory act as a performance booster?
NO
Also no
The 1660 in his system isisnt a prefomance booster
Its Acting Quite simply as a completely Separate Render device
so in dummy terms practically just a overpriced display output slot multiplier
Nope
in the scenario i just explained yea?...
cuz they cant both work on the same workload
That's the point
It's to run multiple seperate workloads at once
Allowing him to render Multiple things at the same time
but cant you have multiple of the same type of card work together on the same thing for a bigger performance output? isent that what SLi is?
With losses
And really its not nesasasrly the way to go
and 40 sereies no longer is able to SLI
that ended with 30 series
where people would chain like 2 or even 3 2080 Supers in a system for 4K gaming in like 2016-2018
That was in that time
That isint much the case now
yea unfortunately
why because of temps?
power useage, Microstutters, Its honestly not the way to go
Multi GPU setups are really only for Productivity
so practically rendering only and not active workload
SLI was cool when it was introduced with the voodoo 2 line to increase rendering resolution from 800x600 to 1024x768
get two of em lol
Most do
I've seen pictures of quad 4090 builds for rendering purposes or ai training, have fun cooling this
why is ROG selling a 4090 whit an aio so they cant upcharge it to 3000$ 😕
i feel like that is both a posibly good idea and also a god awfull idea
He went custom waterloop
Ironically instaid of getting a new car
He spent it on a pc
If you can make some money with it or if it's your sole hobby... why not
when I think about what other people invest in car tuning... a quad 4090 seems cheap 😁
yea 3000$ on a pc isent that bad of an invesment when you compare it to like 100K on a car
its all about perspective really
I think this build will be more in the 8k range, but still
Still a decent chunk of money
ehhh more if he is going for 4
yea i expected more like $20K-$25K
K meaning thousand dollars in this context
bros gonnas have that extreme powerbill lmfao
well, that price from mifcom is a bit high, surely you will save some bucks when making your own build
but yeah, get ready for that power bill🤣
thank god he trys to undervolt
This weird setup has helped me determine that my pcie to m.2 adapter works as needed. This isnt how the final setup is going to be.
i feel bad for ur gpu
I only did it that way so i could test if this $40 adapter will allow the $350 card im getting to work off my m.2 slot. The gpu is getting a full x16 slot
ahhk
k
The card im getting uses x1 i believe. The card im getting couldve been a usb and displayport thing but isnt
PCIE x1 GPU are kinda rare. What card did you get?
Its not a gpu. Htc vive wireless adapter
Ah, nice
Now that i know i can use the m.2 slot as a pcie slot, i can get the wireless adapter
Vive is one of the few cases where WiGig is used that I know of
the kit is 200 bucks now, a nice investment for some VR freedom
did you load it in OS though ? because bios is almost not using it
The fact that i got video is enough. It means its connecting
and in OS you will be able to show how it's connected so you will have clear view if it is operating as expected or not
it's not, the connection can be downgraded
The m.2 slot is wired to pcie. I have a pcie to m.2 adapter. Should be fine
pcie 3.0 x4 should sufficient for running the GPU correctly, it will just not be performant in game or alike
Im not using a gpu in the slot
I'm talking about your test setup, in bios you almost only checked that it would recognize the card
The bios also has an option to select pcie version for the slot
the wigig card will be fine if a GPU booted up with the adaptor
not everytime
booting a gpu put NO LOAD on the pcie connection, it just show that the connection is there
what you want to know is if it is able to operated data
your htc vive card will not just handshake and forget
if the gpu boots fine then it's easy to test
how would a GPU show a picture if not through the data line over the PCIE lanes?
are you trolling me ?
do you know what data is needed to print a static png on a 720p screen ?
I know its a low amount
you could be operating in pcie 2.0 x1 rn
But its doing so over pcie lanes. It needs to handshake to do so
you want to know if it is able to correctly work at least at pcie 3.0 x2
and it's easy to test once it booted like this
any small game should work seemless on this setup if it is correctly working
HWinfo should tell the link speed
that's why I say it would be easy to check if in OS
there are plenty of tool and graphic texture transfer test possible
but bios is only showing if the connection is there or not,
it's not really showing it's health/state/capabilities
and htc vive will need data to go through it or it will be bad experience
if it show pcie 3.0 x4 and when launching somewhat needing software it works well, then it's completly validated
case closed chrome is superior now shush
unless your idleing the startup page there is no scenario i have found its more efficient
Nah
Adblock doesn't work on chrome
Firefox FTW
it does wdym
Not for youtube
yea it does lol
Nope
Not where I am
No longer does YouTube wants me to disable it on chome
Firefox is superior bc adblock will forever work fine on it
Besides fuck Google (I cannot say this without a joke else my phone will explode)
(It's a pixel)
i still hate chrome
Fundamentally it's going to be very hard for Youtube to win on a platform they don't control.
So I have a 527GB mkv
I'm messing with 7 zip settings but no matter what I try I can't get a compression ratio below 99%
Is it not possible to compress this?
use an actual video encoder
You're telling me I have to reencode it?
also, how the fuck
yes
I'm trying to compress the raw source file so I can give it to someone
So reencoding isn't much of an option
what is the video?
1440p60 VOD thats like 11 hours long I think
well
okay VOD is the wrong technical term
its a gameplay video
you can reencode it without losing much quality
do you know what bitrate the video uses?
I used to know (the vid is like 6 months old)
Uh let me check
Bitrate fluctuates a lot, Roughly 60Mb/s Low and 200Mb/s High
And no those numbers aren't wrong
yeah that definitely can be compressed better without losing much quality
60Mb/s is the bitrate I use for 4k60
lossless and lossy compression are different
7zip, like all zip programs, does lossless compression without knowledge of what the data represents
video encoding uses lossy compression to say things like "this patch here is all basically the same shade of blue"
Hypothetically what is stopping me from writing like a simple compression/decompression program for this file that just looks for like idk a set of 500 different patterns in the raw file and just reduces them to smaller and smaller strings
Keep in mind I know nothing about compression theory so i'm sure there's a million reasons why that wouldn't work
the first reason would be that you're reinventing compression
try reencoding it to about 25 Mbps with the AV1 codec
youtube's reccommended bitrate for uploading H.264 is 24 Mbps, so going a little higher and using a better codec should mean you get much better compression at extremely minimal visual difference
assuming your friend can decode AV1
if not, H.265
Not for YT
Its already encoded in H256 natively
Also YT really doesn't like it for some reason but that's another story for another time
huh?
meaning I recorded it in hevc
I knew what you meant by HEVC
i thought 16gb was the new minimum stick size for ddr5
Nope you can get 8GB sticks
It's just that with the speeds you want (6000+), there's no more 8GB sticks
yea just saw dell selling stuff with 8gb sticks & was confuzzled
And because how PCIe works, if you can get the amount of connectivity to get picture, it will work with higher usage too.
And as the PCIe slot power input in the adapter isn't that high, wouldn't suggest trying to run GPU at full tilt when you don't know how much it tries to pull from the PCIe slot.
But just calculated and the the power draw with compliant GPU should be max 5.5A, maybe up to 6.0A.
All PCI express cards may consume up to 3 A at +3.3 V (9.9 W). The amount of +12 V and total power they may consume depends on the type of card:[26]: 35–36 [27]
×1 cards are limited to 0.5 A at +12 V (6 W) and 10 W combined.
×4 and wider cards are limited to 2.1 A at +12 V (25 W) and 25 W combined.
A full-sized ×1 card may draw up to the 25 W limits after initialization and software configuration as a "high power device".
A full-sized ×16 graphics card[22] may draw up to 5.5 A at +12 V (66 W) and 75 W combined after initialization and software configuration as a "high power device".
quote from a Google hit...
And this would have been 16x card on 4x slot, with power provided by floppy connector.
So that is the reason I didn't recommend actual GPU load.
As it could easily have tried to draw that 5.5A or more without care about the smaller slot.
Against the spec.
the 16x card will only be threatened as 4x, but the floppy connector should be able to supply 75W
I think there are protection mechanisms at work here, there are often 16x slots which are only 4x electrically and 16x cards work just fine
Yes, most probably would have worked fine, just didn't see need to take any chance.
But if someone has actual known cases of PCIe link working at basic usage, and failing at high bandwidth usage, then tell me.
But anyways, based on later things, there might never have been any break-ins, and just person with mental disorders living above me.
Cops had to pick him up last night.
And his current door seems to be original, with no physical damage and without any reinforcements etc.
bad thing when the brain starts to imagine things
I can't believe the length some people go to post a 'i need help, game sux, new patch has broken stuff, devs are stupid' threads and then fail to answer basic questions
Yup...
And the amount of completely useless "bug" reports on the QA site, with absolutely no data about anything, just incoherent ramble.
but my hope is that those are just the 1-3% of the gaussian distribution that are super unhappy AND STILL motivated enough to post about it.
So most players are either happy, just don't care about cosmetic bugs or if they experience problems are able to formulate them into understandable sentences and answer questions
I believe that over 80% of the players never write anything here or elsewhere. maybe a like on YouTube for a dev video is their most interaction with the community?
Another idiot on #satisfactory
honestly I stopped looking at #satisfactory a while ago as there often is either too much going on to follow while on mobile or some dumbass is throwing a tantrum...
Wow, nice...
Yesterday IIRC someone complained that they had bad FPS in main menu with Foliage Distance set to max.
And just couldn't accept that the settings affect the main menu and too high Foliage Distance can cause issues in Main menu, as it causes inside the game in specific areas.
Ah, sorry, not bad FPS but stutters.
Like you get with too high foliage distance in NF etc. foliage heavy areas.
And IIRC the current Main Menu save is in Swamp?
maybe an option to set a static main menu could help. But yeah
Well, if they get the stutters in the main menu, they will get them ingame too.
So the solution would have been to lower the foliage distance.
But just couldn't understand that.
maybe ingame is expected
Even when I explained that the Main Menu is full blown save being run with part of the map loaded...
'I paid for the whole settings, I'm going to use em!'🤣
Or some kind of pre-recorded video that's perfectly looping, valorant has sth similar
When devs have specifically said that the max foliage is not meant to be runnable, but to be for screenshots.
Helps in tweaking video settings, as you see the FPS effect right away.
And what the setting changes too.
Ik just throwing an idea
As you typically are only a few seconds in the main menu I totally understand that the Devs don't care about the performance as you have to deal with the same fps in-game anyway.
And much less drive usage.
I'm looking at the new OLED steam deck and trying to find reasons not to buy one
AMD inhouse OC team overclocked 7995WX to almost 1000W power usage with specialist air cooler, and took Cinebench R15, R20 and R23 multicore world records.
4790, 4815 and 4875MHz All-Cores newest to oldest CineBench.
4875MHz all core with 96 cores is brutal
And all that with air cooling... How about LN2?
Planning to do LN2 next if they can.
And some of the previous ones are with dual-socket Zen 4 EPYCs with up to 400W TDP per socket, with 96 cores each.
whatever happened to prommies, I don't think I've seen a single 'refrigerated' cooler for decades now..
So same core arch, with 800W to play with, and double the cores.
And still the Threadripper OC was significantly higher.
Intel just killed official TEC subambient cooler program.
Chillers have been used by Intel in previous demos.
And those do exist if you absolutely want one, price is just very high.
I used to run this on my games rig, would sit at -30 or so at desktop for months at a time
***-***68C?
yes
that’s insane
-30C at desktop
30c would be nice, let alone -30c
obviously nothing like as cold as LN2, or even dry ice, but it will sit in low minus numbers under load for weeks with zero faff
was a great bit of kit, just not really seen them around lately
Because one powerful enough for current CPUs costs over 500e and uses hundreds of watts of power.
3am thoughts moment
refrigerators increase ambient temp too don’t they?
The electrical power has to go somewhere always.
So yes. Any power anything uses gets converted into heat in the end.
So your heat load will be the heat load of the computer, + the power usage of the chiller.
active cooling with a chiller or peltier elements is rather inefficient, but great effect
thats true enough, CPU power use was a lot lower back then
still single core
Real chiller is just specialist compressor like in AC units or fridges etc.
yeah, exactly that
Peltier for 300W load would need about 900W of electricity.
single core sounds horrible
And then you would need to cool the peltier that is now emitting 1200W of heat.
was awesome at the time, lol
awesome compared to what? 0 core cpu’s?
its better than not having it, yes
big part of benchmarking back then was cutting out extra processes as Everything was hitting on your frame rate
much less of a thing now, though windows is Staggeringly bloated comparitively
the PCIe link is changing state and speed
so I was saying it would be worth poking at it and check it can achieve PCIe 3.0 x2 at least
I never talked about hard loading the gpu, anyway gpu loading software does not load the PCIe link that much as it means the gpu is waiting data to be transfered
Ok, my bad.
Yes, peltiers are way more inefficient than compressor cooler.
compressors still use extra energy that has to be dissipated
Point was that real compressor isn't that inefficient.
But yes, still more power usage.
Peltiers are just horrible.
aye
I remember water cooling blocks with stacked peltiers for P3/4, way to burn some energy

When I asked to try a new save to see if there are any enemies...
But now being reasonable.
Lmao my save from update 2 is still working
Nvm, update 1 lmao
Been through it all
Still haven't reached nuclear
Homer would tell you that it's nucular😁
wtf, that's so cool 🤣
So now I was wondering, can a temperature that is negative, effect the PC performance negatively.
Condensation
An electrolytic capacitor is a polarized capacitor whose anode or positive plate is made of a metal that forms an insulating oxide layer through anodization. This oxide layer acts as the dielectric of the capacitor. A solid, liquid, or gel electrolyte covers the surface of this oxide layer, serving as the cathode or negative plate of the capaci...
Not really condensation it seems. It seems the capacitator material.
"Additionally, low temperature is a problem for most aluminum capacitors: for most types, capacitance falls off rapidly below room temperature while dissipation factor can be ten times higher at −25 °C than at 25 °C. "
And I worded it poorly. You are right. But if you can handle condensation what other problems might arrive.
I mean we know it's a problem in space for our hardware.
maybe a bit far fetched, but because they store an electric charge measured in coulomb?
nah, forget that.
condensatus lat. is condensed or to compact or concentrated
anyone actually got a piece of hardware they actually are wanting to buy, but are holding off till next week in the hopes theres a good sale for it ?
im like, i got nothing i 'want' to buy, so basically i dont know what to watch just in case something is good to buy !
like, cant pass up a great deal on something ... right ?!?? 😄
i mean i could watch out for a deal on a 4090, but i know that wont happen LOL
heck, even a good deal on a 4080 wont happen........
well, the whole 'black friday' thing is gotten pretty universal
not so much the ACTUAL holiday .... cause who cares about that USA only holiday 😉
Any kind of US retailer thought up marketing day will.
Singles day and Cyber Monday etc. as the newer ones I know of.
lol right... xmas isnt about xmas anymore, its about selling shit for 3 months (starting before halloween)
Small Business Saturday i think it is? but yeah, Cyber Monday
Mothers day might have started for that too, Fathers day certainly did.
yeah, mothers day is pretty big around here
memorial day, labor day ... like what were those even for before they just made them into marketing days
well if they didnt DO them, then people would just buy things generally near normal msrp ... instead of wait for those 'big sale days'
if no one is expecting sales, people will end up buying things for asking price
but is that really a bad thing if the margins are the same?
burdened with making less, but making the same amount of revenue overall
yup, so much throw away culture here
tv goes bad in a year? throw it out, buy another
cause there is no 'just fix it' anymore ...
im terrible with holding onto things using them until they flat out have zero use anymore at all .... waiting till im hobbling it along with duct tape and rubber bands
my old tv started 'white ghosting' around the outter edges, seriously, huge fuzzy white glow all around coming inward by about 4 inches .... and then if anything stayed on the screen for too long, the pixels would just kinda ghost those images (like menus, or buttons) ....
i still HAVE the tv, in its box ... because it still kinda is useful cause you CAN still see the image in it 😄
lol
230347 milimeters
🦐
wtf
since when is discord prioritizing "shrimp" when typing "shr" ... it used to just be "shrug" was first !
seriously wtf discord
🐳
i guess so ?
i sit back a ways could never see one if it did
computer monitors on the other hand ... seriously annoying to have even 'one' dead pixel
yeah, biggest issue at the time was condensation, used to go through 2 large pots of Vaseline during the build/setup just to keep everything sealed
The dead pixel limits in the warranty are still absolutely insane.
But the processes are now so reliable that the panels don't actually have faults most of the time.
I never really cared about longevity of components as back then I was rebuilding every few months anyway... lol
dead pixel roulette
there was a monitor i had once, where if i shifted to the side in my seat, i would see it, but if i sat center, it would go away ... was kinda weird
this is so funny ....... my macbookpro ... ive got its activity monitor up, as well as like 40 apps all runing at once (doing a stress test of 10 day uptime). The funny part is, the activity monitor shows overall higher CPU use when the display has 'gone to sleep' and its locked. but when i bump the pad and sign in back to desktop (with all apps running), the cpu use drops down to almost nill.
i was wondering 'why is the laptop kinda warm when its basically sleeping' ... LOL
its not actually IN sleep mode... its just in 'display off' mode/lockscreen
what i THINK is happening ....... is that the "Screen Saver" (which is a highly graphical waving of streaks and lines) is coming ON even though the "Display is in Sleep mode" ...... so its churning on all that graphical whatnots even if its not displaying it
like, its apparently not smart enough to turn OFF the screen saver, when the display goes to sleep ! LOLOL
Screen saver is 10y out of fashion
i used to like my computers going into "matrix screen saver" when im not using the computer directly ... so all my monitors are just pouring green symbols
then if i didnt use the computer for like 3 hours straight, it would sleep the monitor
but apparently that old habit doesnt work so well as its still running the screensaver even when the display goes to sleep too 😄
soooo gonna just flip this to sleep the display at 10 minutes, and no more screen saver cool wavey undulating streaks of visual frill
wtf, there is no "None" choice in the Screensaver settings anymore ???? fff Apple what you doin
but thing is ... the screensaver is clearly eating more power to be on LOL
thats the thing, im trying to find out how to turn it off, but there is no "None" choice anymore for screensaver lol
haha
fuck linux...
win11 isnt that bad... honestly
ever since win11's start menu was pure ass... i stopped even opening it and now never use it... so i now no longer miss how useful the win10 tile based start menu was
and win11 taskbar seems the same to me as win10 ... maybe slight changes in icons ? but ... seems the same ??
pinned crap on left, tiny icon stuff on right ...
hmm, maybe how i use it i didnt notice what changed on it ...
i was oblivious!!! LOL
my win11 task bar is not all crammed into the center like that
Seems to be, yes
The smaller the stuff you want to study, the larger you have to make the machinery
No. Future Circular Collider
And now now this idiot #1174548958488559636 message posted the same to QA site.
And just cannot send the save to me for checking...
in search for “new physics”
LHC found the higgs boson so they’re like “well, what if we made a bigger one?”
finally found where to turn off screensaver .... it was moved from the "Screensaver" preferences, over into "Lock Screen" 🤦🍎
a 6s and 8+
both free and dont have service 😄
glorified iPod Touches
i use one in sandbox user mode for testing our Apple Pay... the other i use as my authentication device with those 2factor code apps n shit
and also for my DJI Drone, since the drone app doesnt work anymore on my android phone
we are adding Google Pay soon
and Samsung Pay, and Venmo ... guh
also Amazon Pay ffffs
Case insides at 12C...
Had window open.
is it ? LOL
Inside your home?
we are expected to get to 70 pompous bastard units today.
hot for mid nov 😦
126 F ... thats normal
i THINK phoenix finally reached the 70s this week? my father was telling me its been hot
no i dont miss it at all
Need to see later how much better stress test scores I can get between 23C case intake temperature vs. 0C case intake temperature.
my gpu is 50-60 while gaming 💕
I barely get it above 60 tbh. While my previous one I couldn't get below 60 🤣
mine is 80 C when gaming =p ... its a hot bastard, and no amount of extra case flow or even extra fans blowing straight on it helps (well, depending on the game, that is)
I think it's the case. It's really doing a good job.
if i turn off all the case fans, it reaches 83 and then throttles itself lol
i use afterburner graphs and rivatuner ss
The only thing I notice is that there is quiet a bit of whinecoil. But I cannot complain for the price of the GPU
I rather have whinecoil than pay twice as much for a GPU. + Headset on all the time. If not Headset on. Then I am blasting metal or some other music in my room.
add some audio mat to the inside of your case cover, it might soak some of that noise without affecting airflow
was playing Halo with my brother ... and my gpu wasnt even reaching a point to where it turned on its own fans .....
even as a remaster, with full details on... system was like 'uh, you playing something?'
😄
it's only a tiny bit annoying when you hear it. But many solutions. Aka. Music and headset.
but way higher than my 1080
honestly ive not turned on RT in anything because in gameplay i dont notice a difference, and the performance loss is NOT worth it
lol ... discord lag weee !
so i just got done setting up my new sound system for my computer, required moving my monitor and using a longer hdmi cable. ever since then, i have the problem of getting both the bios splash screen to show, as well as windows recovery, but as soon as the computer boots into windows, i get no signal. what might be causing this problem? currently have my pc closer to the new setup so i can use the shorter cable and it works again. but i cant leave the pc where it is
HDMI cable that can do the BIOS/recovery resolution, but not the full desktop one.
So you need better one or to drop desktop refresh rate and/or resolution.
I had that problem with my brand new monitor on my older rig ... I had to update the BIOS so that it understood hdmi 2.1 or something like that
repros ?
naw, not dumb at all
both my HTPC is using a logitech z5500, and my game rig is on a logitech uhhhh whats the model number ...
Z905 for my game rig
How long is the nonworking long cable?
the Z905 is a more basic setup, but supports multiple inputs and sounds decent enough to my picky-as-fuck ears
heres my new sound system btw, get jealous.
lol
25 ft, directional
i cant even put my Z5500 beyond 40% its too fricken loud
So active? Or just marketing?
And what resolution, refresh rate and bit-depth?
For the monitor.
25ft hdmi ?? is it the right spec, 2.1 ...
not sure, been in a closit for a while
And is it Standard Speed HDMI, High-Speed HDMI, Premium High-Speed HDMI or Ultra High Speed HDMI?
For the cable.
And what resolution, refresh rate and bit-depth for the monitor in Windows?
its a 4k tv i have the resolution set to 1080 30fps
i like the opening music for starsector playing on it
So it is probably being detected as new monitor with the other cable and trying to run at the 4k.
And it is only Standard Speed or High-Speed cable.
Or just crap that isn't actually active and doesn't fill the standards.
For that distance, you would want Premium High-Speed HDMI cable that is active, so with internal amplifiers at both ends of the cable.
High-Speed should work up to 4K@30Hz@8bit, if it actually can do that and isn't fake.
Yes, but some are fakes and don't actually contain them.
And 25 feet, only about 7.5m, is about the max good quality high-speed HDMI cable can do passive.
10m if you are lucky.
But that kind of problem is bad cable that cannot actually support the bandwidth needed for the resolution, refresh, bitdepth combo.
So compatibility problem in the old firmware?
Not following spec and causing the newer device to barf up or the other way.
The badly coded thing barfing up on data it couldn't interpret, even when if it had followed standards it would have known to not even try for the previously reserved section.
I misread his original message... didnt read this part right: "but as soon as the computer boots into windows, i get no signal." ...
i had the opposite issue... bios wouldnt show up, only windows
turned out it was a bios firmware update that fixed it
Ah, that is because some monitors don't support low resolutions anymore, and barf up.
And BIOSes and boot screens still often use them.
The BIOS update changed what resolution the BIOS UI uses.
yup... the new monitor was like '2.1 or bust' ...
i can fish up the article ... gimmie a sec
Windows Safe Mode still uses 640x480 resolution IIRC.
And some monitors just don't support it anymore.
Or possibly 1024x768 now?
oh, geez ... total mindfrag ... this was all about DISPLAYPORT 2.0/2.1 and the bios ... 🤦 not hdmi
For that feature, doesn't matter what type of cabling you use.
Because the Monitor firmware has been written badly and it just doesn't support the old default resolutions.
So now MB firmwares etc. are coded to output Full-HD if possible.
And the BIOS update you did to solve the issue made that change.
DisplayPort.
my favorite prank with setups like those: turn up the volume while no audio is playing, watch chaos unfold
lowering resolution didnt help 😦
my neighbours would kill me.
You might have the GPU driver set to do GPU scaling.
So the GPU will be outputting monitor native no-matter what resolution you set.
Might even be default, because that usually gives better performance, stability and image quality compared to monitor doing the scaling,.
And isn't that 40' cable?
goes to show how bad i am at eyeballing and guessing length
but it should do 1080 30fps... maby the cable went bad... thx for the help
Should in theory do 4k@30Hz.
when this becomes an actual product and not just a joke
dont forget the razor toaster
got to have a high tech kitchen
recycling heat/power for other purposes 👍
probably 5K
Some people would actually buy it, I bet!
Wasn't there also a Razer Covid mask or something?
Ah yes, Razer Zephyr. 🤣
"Only" 110 bucks and 35 for 10 filters lol
Still thought it was a joke, but apparently you were actually able to buy it
Potato Gun of the WW2 British Navy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holman_Projector
The Holman Projector was an anti-aircraft weapon used by the Royal Navy during World War II, primarily between early 1940 and late 1941. The weapon was proposed and designed by Holmans, a machine tool manufacturer based at Camborne, Cornwall. A number of models were produced during the war years, but all worked on the principle of a pneumatic mo...

Some few mice have sideways scroll by tilting the scroll wheel.
hold shift key with scroll wheel does horizontal scrolling ?
Was nice, but so rare that not worth it trying to get one.
ah, yeah
im just used to holding shift if i actually need it
i DO prefer mice that let you click the middle button by pushing sideways on the scroll wheel ... instead of trying to mash the wheel straight down (and often times scroll accidently at the same time)
Had it in one mouse long ago.
Was nice but couldn't find mouse with that when I had to replace it that filled more important things.
my older rev razer deathadder let you push sideways on the wheel to do the middle click ... the new rev of it doesnt do that very well 😦
the old rev didnt actually have it engineered in, it was just a side effect of how sensative the middle click was by pushing sideways on the wheel 😄
I had a mouse that did left/right tilt and straight down press
The side to side tilt could be used for scrolling sideways, it was pretty usefull sometimes
useful in games too, a couple extra actions to map
thumb buttons and me dont mix too well ... cause im a 'claw grip' mouser :/
I tried that, but it really didn't work for fps games because I'd accidentally scroll when I tried to use the tilt
oops
So now I just use the side buttons on my new mouse
This mouse also had side buttons, so it gave me two extra bindings
I've been extremely pleased with my g403 hero
If I turn off the rgb its understated design lets it look not like an over the top gaming mouse
If I were to buy an mmo mouse I would go with evga
😄 yeah ... rgb ... you know cant tell you how many games would randomly crash on me cause the razer software color changing based on game action whatnots
it put me over the edge when it would do that in HITMAN ... a game where you are trying to do a very long level without any saves or checkpoints
CRASH ... so that was the end of that, disabled all that crap and never tried it again in any other game
yes
That's one of my biggest things I love about my logi mouse, it has an internal profile that let me set it up with the software once and then uninstall it.
Oh really?
That has been on and off for Razer, if they bother including on-board memory or not.
have you seen the original macintosh mouse? just 1 button
Reminds me of the Xerox scanners being set to do pattern matching by default.
Some official documents were digitalized and suddenly were Bb meters long instead of 86m
Not pattern matching, too aggressive compression with specific compression format that does block compression and uses the same block if they are "close enough".
Takes block of X*Y pixels, saves it with simple compression.
And then reuses the same compressed block if it is "close enough" to the other block, instead of adding another compressed block.
So in the end you have library of blocks, and then the "document" is just links to the blocks in the right order.
Gave nice and small files, and was completely unsuitable to being the default.
Even at "lesser" compression factor.
which is a more specific way of saying "pattern matching"
Ok, in a way.

"Why are my U8 graphics completely failing?!"
Also I run the game in Windows VM inside Parallers, on ARM Mac, and didn't mention that originally!
Hmm... What MIGHT possibly be the reason why one of the first ever released UE 5.2 games fails horribly?
And another complaining to CSS devs that the version of Visual C++ 2015-2022 the UE 5.2 installs isn't liked by some EasyAntiCheat version...
And that version was already released over 6 months ago, and has the code signed with the signatures MS used for their own code...
its also a very slow game development group
Well, the person was mostly talking gibberish, because of minimal IT skills, but that was what it boiled down.
🛌
Good night
so... when my macbookpro goes into "Display Sleep" mode (machine is idle, im not using it) ... the "WindowServer" and "kernal_task" processes eat 63% and 34% CPU (which is not really 97% total cpu, but more like 5%, apple is weird). When I WAKE the laptop and use it, those two processes drop to 26% and 12% respectively... (which makes the system cpu load down to like 2.4%)
so, my takeaway here is: never let the fucking thing sleep anything and i will save power and it will run cooler
I'm really not familiar enough with macos to make many recommendations for issues like that
ventura (macoass13) is the first one thats done that for me ...
guessing its a bug ........
cause if i let it just idle (not touch it) for a half hour even... i never see the processes rise like that
but right at 10 minutes if i let it do display sleep ... they rise, then drop the moment i wake display and login again
at first i thought it was the screensaver (obviously, its eating power to generate the fancy frills) ... but nope, turned that all off
@jagged snow Odd question. SHould you pair a 12600K with a 7900XTX
Dose anyone easl have this problem satisfactory has this odd thing going on my map flickers sometimes in the back round
Wrong channel
Depends on the workload/res
say 1440p and gaming/ Game deveopment
Personal preference, but I'd shift some money to the cpu
Thats kinda what i said to the dude
Hilariously. Apparently I need a complete benchmark to prove Why a 12600k is kinda weak for a 7900xtx lol
im going to PCMR discord fuck BAPC
Satisfactory on sale on Steam, yay! One step closer to dumping EGS.
I haven't even touched a free game from there in a long time. One by one I'm buying the few games I paid for in Steam.
hehe
EGS = Empyrion Galactic Survival ... to me ... its what i used long before Epic store came along
I've had more bad experiences in my short stint with EGS than my entire lifetime of using Steam.
ive not had bad experiences with epic store..... i just dont like it because ive got years and friends on steam
so epic is my 'crap grounds' where i just nab free games only, and never give them a dime
buy more copies of satis on steam!
rowr
I'm probably finished with Witcher 3 soon, then I'm actually going to check out the 1.0 release of KeeperFX
im the very oposite i got so bored that instead of looking up music everytime i just hooked up the real life radio channels to my games so if i want i can lisen to real radio in most of them
some games its hit or miss some it works really well
the only downside to this is you then need to also lisen to the real radio ads
its one of thoes small things that are slowly poking around in a few games thats a really cool feature
Radio ads are tolerable for me
same as long as there not super repeditive
its also why i have 3 difrent channels setup so worst case just change lol
some games have it super customizable too which is nice
@pure karma what type of game are u working on? and what is the engine you use?
im not working on a game im playing one lol
Lol
id love to make games but i just dont really feel like spending the time cuz the few times i do i nerver finish the projects
I now have the vive wireless adapter on order
What headset do you have?
what's wrong with vive
why must the h6 flow only come with 1 3.5in bay
i'm tryna have 2 4tb drives in raid 1 and it goes and says "only 1 3.5in bay"
nzxt is not HDD frendly H9 only has 2 H5 has 0
you know how expensive 4tb ssd's are?
so your lucky for even having 1
i have all of 0
i'm planning on having one as my game drive
the 2 4tb hdd's are just storage for photos and backups and stuff
i'm just a little sad i can't do 2 hdd's and have em in raid 1
eye candy cases and 3.5 drives dont mix really well
the motherboard even has 4 6gb/s sata ports
who said you need bays
a dangling ssd will work fine, but a spinning disk? hm...
even if it's entirely useless, 8usd for some peace of mind helps
ok i can get 2.5inch 4tb hdd
they're 108usd per, instead of 72usd per, but that's prolly a better idea
i can just do one of each
wanted to order the oled steam deck today. but could not get the order to complete because of errors, timeouts, logouts... who would have guessed that SOME ppl want the new shiny
the pc i plan to build this summer,
https://pcpartpicker.com/user/irohlikestea/saved/yKcJwP
Looks like AM4 is getting mor. X3D cpus
probably cuz AM5 starting price is still 300+
and at the end of the day AM4 is still good enough
feels oddly expensive
everything is expensive
over 2000 is a lot for a 7700x3d and 7900xt
payed 3600$ for myn in the end 600$ of that was shipping
Part List - AMD Ryzen 9 7900X, GeForce GTX 1070 Ti, Fractal Design North ATX Mid Tower
1070ti is a temporary, i just figure another $500 for a 7800xt sometime later
i feel like 1200$ is quite a bit for a 12700k and 3060 config even for having ddr5
also idk what im doing lol i suck at making configs
but atleast im trying
i dont need a new pc i just got one but i got distracted
how hard would a case swap be....
i was honestly considering case swapping my R11 and turning it into a portable micro ATX build or something
to be honest to only reasson im hesistant is cuz the R11 case has 15 difrent USB ports which is way better than the like 5 on my H9 lol
well it has 15 usb a ports
12 rear usb a ports 3 front usb a ports 1 rear usb c port and 1 front usb c port is the literal USB dream
that's alot of usb
both the 12700k and 3060 are waaay overpriced
I don't know how Canada ruples work, but that seems suspect.
Hmm yes how crazy can I be with my phone...
YES
u got ADHD by any chance?
Same idiot has been giving bad technical advice on the QA site for long time:
Never made single post him/herself.
How does he know that SF doesn't work beyond 32GB VRAM?
I struggled to find data on X3D CPUs, idek if I got any benchmark data beyond what you guys said
Another complete WTF:
I have no idea where he got that for standard GPU hung error...
He keeps suggesting weird INI edits to almost anything.
can i play satisfactory on steam with a ryzen 7 processor
Factorio? Probably?
was refering to satisfactory on steam
cause it says i need this thing i5-3570 3.4 GHz 4 Core so i was wandering is if ryzen 7 was enough or not
im good at games not computor parts
The specific pin about us being unhelpful to Satisfactory questions is on the #off-topic-general , but this is also Off-topic channel and the Topic up top states that Satisfactory doesn't belong to this channel.
What Ryzen?
Because Ryzen 7 is marketing, not model.
But all Ryzens are much newer than 3th gen Intel Core.
i was refered here by someone in main chat saying this was aplace to find out if my parts can handle this game i think thats what they meant atleast
so its better so it can?
Yes.
ok
i ask cause many years ago i played pvz gw2 and got it for my friend to play aswell thing was my friend old laptop did not have a good enough graphics card to play it so i wasted my money cause i bought it for them so i intend not to make a similar mistake again
tysm for help
Ah yes, threeth gen
Sorry.
We know a lot about the parts and little about satisfactory, main chat is the other way around
"Ryzen 7" is not quite as vague as "Intel core i7" but it gets close.
You can land anywhere between Ryzen 7 1700 and Ryzen 7 7800X3D.
Either of those clears the minimum spec, just trying to give some clarity
And even goes below the 1700 on the mobile CPU side.
For performance, but still enough.
Yup, forgot about those
i hate when prebuilt makers and laptop companies just say “super fast i7 processor”
i would rather they just list the generation
"high performance latest technology Intel 13th gen CPU"
That is the whole point, to sell old crap.
And same in turn why the laptop OEMs want "new" CPU and GPU models each year.
So they can then also seem to have "new, better" part, when it is just rebrand.
And reason for the new AMD mobile CPU numbering system.
Where the first number just means year.
But that fills the wants of the OEMs and still allows for person who knows to look at the third number to see the actual generation.
First is just year, second is segment (3, 5, 7, 9), third is the CPU core generation.
yeah, they just try to make money off non-nerds
what the actual hell ???
can people stop being so creative about their fake knowledge ?
or they just use scrap-intelligence ™️
hey guys, are there any tests I can perform to ensure my PC is getting enough electricity?
run it at max?
do a benchmark, if the pc shits itself, you have a problem, if it runs fine, you’re good
hmmmm
I have a tablet being charged via one of my USB ports
super slow charging
could be the tablet
It is the USB port, they don't support usually fast charging output
^^
USB3 nominal max is 0.9A.
And for USB2 it was only 0.5A.
aaaah
so even my more expensive ones are hopeless, lol
I had no clue about that when buying it
Some machines have specialist fast charge output ports, often yellow.
That usually can give 2.0A
But if the port isn't specifically listed as fast charge, they will be only 0.9A.
Or USB-C with PD output support
sorry not so easy to see
my monitor ... is samsung taking the piss out of Apple lovers, lol
never owned a macbook but it's a lovely monitor
Yes, so USB-C PD output ports where one is 15W max and 85W max.
So first one is probably only 5V output and the other can do higher PD voltages.
and meanwhile, even from my monitor this tablet is still struggling at 12%
this lenovo tab ... barely used since purchased
now I hope it's the cable that the issue
The other port might work better?
But if the tablet was long without charging and the battery had gone flat, it might be gone.
oooooooh
wow, another thing i have never heard of before
and this is why I come back here everytime if I am struggling technically, lol
Tablets etc. need to be charger every 3-6 months or that can happen.
lesson learned
Li-ion batteries fail when discharged too much.
And if you cannot physically remove the battery, it will always be discharging.
oddly I did charge it recently to test it as a macro deck
now it's not showing an icon showing it's charging, lol
maybe time for the bin
Or try with A -> C cable?
good call
Much less can go wrong than with C <-> C one.
C<->C is active negotiation etc.
and a pain in the ASCII!
A->C is very dumb.
indeed
and I was almost dumb too ... almost ended up in the bin, lol
thanks man
I think I am going to replace my iphone 6S
battery is really struggling, can maybe listen to a hour or two music with bluetooth and it's dead.
Sad part is, it's 500GB iphone. Paid 300 euro's for it. Now a new one with that amount of storage is above 1K euro. Fuck that 🤣
Again with the Factorio talk...
lol, shit, wrong channel!
I've only just started a new save again after ~6 months or so off
I really want to.
around when update 6 went live, whenever that was
but not enough changed so far for me to play it again.
It's all minor changes or rehaul of engine which introduced tons of bugs, that they then fixed.
I probably play it when they finally release it with the story.
but I don't see the game released in another year.
Anyone have a clue wth is going on with AI? blog.youtube/inside-youtube/ai-and-music-experiment/
In the Netherlands the goverment wants to ban chatGPT for goverment employees.
So it feels like some part of the world is stepping on the brake
good luck enforcing a ban like that
while the other part of the world is stepping on the gas pedal.
easy trust me 🤣 (worked for the goverment, know how they monitor the resources/laptops).
it's not byod
even just wording the law to get it to apply to exactly what they want would be a struggle
I don't know like I said. One part stepping on a brake. The other part is stepping on the gas pedal.
And all I think is: this is going to blow up in our face.
ai is kinda getting to a point that you can’t deny it’s existence or stop it from becoming more prevalent
Why the fuck do we want shorts, with AI voices of singers?
And even having the law then in theory allows to fire the few people that do get caught, for using it too blatantly.
I am fine with AI for purposes like: exploring science.
Often getting rid of such people would be real pain otherwise even if they didn't do their work.
I am not fine with AI for purposes like: 💰
Some of these tools add 0 value to our society is feels.
maybe entertainment reading Maxeek comment 🤣
i mostly use ai to do busywork assigned in school
You looking at it wrong. Goverment employees in the Netherlands work on laptops from the goverment. These are nailed shut so hard.
or like pulling definitions or quotes quicker
ai should be used to help workers do their jobs more efficiently, not eliminate jobs
You cannot even change your background/wallpaper.
So they will just put in scripts preventing from chatGPT of running or they blacklist it. Or they work with whitelist.
I hate working for the goverment.
whitelist could work, but then it’s annoying to add new links as an employee
50% of my time I just sat their waiting for someoene to give me rights or do something so trivial I could do it in seconds.
but for security your hands are bound.
you wont hear the difference.
That's the issue with AI. It's already making paitings that people can't see it's fake.
might end up working at lockheed martin
Oh the legal issues that AI will bring. It's going to be juicy.
going into engineering and they love to hire engineers
let’s hope i don’t have to deal with government bureaucracy
It's not about change. It's about protection.
What if someone is able to hack chatGPT and make it produce malicious lines of code and sneak it in real code. Developers use chatGPT to generate code. They copy paste the code and bam.
What if chatGPT has a bug and produces faulty code? We know developers are lazy. Especially if they use chatGPT. You really think they going to fully check the produced code?
and when it comes to politics, there are plenty of videos out on YT that show how biased chatGPT is.
Can't wait for zero day exploits in code made by ChatGPT
There is reasons enough to worry about chatGPT, if I was a goverment that is 😄
being hacked will always be a point of issue
you either air gap your computer, or pray you did a good enough job preventing it
Thanks to Fiverr for sponsoring this video! If you are curious about AI and are looking for a place to bring your project to life, head to https://fvrr.co/answerinprogress to check out the services available to you and use the code ANSWERINPROGRESS for 10% off!
How intelligent is artificial intelligence? In this video, Sabrina answers that ques...
"ChatGPT, you created this bug. Can you find it and fix it? Thank you" 🤣
Also, the one thing it's supposed to be (intelligent), it isn't
How dare you!
Thing is: if you wrote the code, you have at least a vague understanding of what it does and how it works.
If ChatGPT wrote it, no chance
It already makes lot of basic mistakes on security front of the code.
Because it is based on stackoverflow etc as whole without any context to the code snippets it bases the output.
Because it is language AI, not programming AI,
It literally failed the IQ test
IQ tests are shitty anyways
You preaching to the choir? 🤣
I've been opposed to AI in here from day 1, fighting the fans left and right
@twin dew this usb-c to c not working ... could be over charge prevention?
or the port just isn’t designed to charge
Actually, more of poking the bear
Most probably just handshake error.
Misspecified reward functions causing odd RL behavior within the OpenAI Universe environment CoastRunners. Blog: https://openai.com/blog/faulty-reward-functions/
chatgpt did just get a big update that would greatly increase its usecases
Or you might have needed to turn one end of the cable 180 degrees for the same.
USB-C connection negotiation is complex.
Look a video of an AI playing a game. It had to get the most points as fast as possible.
The AI started to play the game backwards 🤣
while it's doing it's job, or what it's told to do, it's not how it's meant to play the game.
oh yeah and it started to loop a point where there was a bug I think and the point respawn
that why the boat goes in circles around and around
people do that all the time
Do what?
play games in a very unintended manner to get the most points or best times
The whole point of the video is. The guys made an AI. Expected behavior A. Got behavior B. And that behavior is not wrong.
So the lesson is, we humans are dumb. So if we give wrong command to AI, it will have unexpected outcomes.
plus chatgpt isn’t a great example, it basically just tries to sound human
Outcomes we didn't predict. That's the danger of AI.
so use ai for menial tasks and not important tasks that break stuff if they go wrong
You really believe that?
Have you seen how we use AI in such a short period?
i mean it’d be nice if that’s how it was used
It's already in EVERYTHING.
Just read an article unity added AI. Then youtube has it. Google. Discord probably has some AI build in somewhere 😛
Yeah, but those were very linear coded.
the code had a strict path to follow. Nothing autonomous.
No. Like I said, there is proof that chatGPT is biased AF when it comes to politics.
What impact does that have on a society?
Its bias comes from the fact that its main dataset is reddit
like basically any piece of content related to politics is biased
What impact will AI have on art? (music, movies, ...) Remember there was a strike in hollywood AGAINST AI.
Watch the video.
The AI didn't just not complete the IQ test, it failed by spreading misinformation
Actors were afraid of losing there 10000000000 💵 for AI.
Pretty big difference giving rights of your likeness and voice to be emulated by AI for almost free to the big companies?
I just wonder 😊
Huh? - Don't understand what you trying to say with this?
and writers were afraid to loose their 5💵
That was the point, the companies tried to include term that the actors likeness and voice was their property to use with AI generation for later productions, after any contract.
poor fucks don't even have health insurance most of the time
very off topic, but i drives in raid 1 don’t have to be identical right?
No, just will have total capacity based on the smaller.
I am having a hard time feeling pitty for actors with the amount of money they make. I feel pitty for all the rest of the staff that works on movies. The non actors. You know the ones nobody freaking cares about?
Was not about the big actors, included EVERYONE.
But yeah, my point was not that, my point is, AI is changing our society already as we speak. If you like it or not.
like i can have a seagate 2.5in 4tb hdd and a western digital blue 3.5in 4tb in raid 1 and have it work just fine?
It's going way faster than I expected tbh.
there are a lot of actors that don't get what you expect them to get paid
Yes, will be limited by the slower one, and by the smaller one if size difference.
Depending on implementation, sometimes reads will work at the speed of the faster one.
don’t really care about speed, supposed to just be used for backups and photos and random stuff
speed is already gutted by raid-1 🤣
But the RAID controller doesn't care.
It is just block storage.
h6 flow, which is the case i picked, only has 1 3.5in bay
No?
Same speed of better as single drive.
and the 2.5in 4tb drive is 30usd more expensive per drive
for real? read or write??
Average latency can be higher if the specific implementation needs to read both drives.
RAID 1 is just stupid writing the same data to two drives in identical locations.
And then reading both, quick check that both are identical and passing forward.
And the checking can be done at line speed as the data comes
" You're going to Raid 1 for the redundancy, taking a known performance hit. " ... superuser.com/questions/423837/how-much-slower-is-a-raid-1-hard-drive-compared-to-no-raid
Bad advice on the internet?
No way?
Synthetic benchmarks show varying levels of performance improvements when multiple HDDs or SSDs are used in a RAID 1 setup, compared with single-drive performance. However, some synthetic benchmarks also show a drop in performance for the same comparison.[11][12]
wikipedia.
thanks
not super concerned about speed, just need it to function at least decently
or maybe we both are right and wrong? 😮
Like I said, depending on exact controller working, it works same as single drive.
Or as two drives and take better result for that specific run.
Or as two drives and take the worse result for that specific run.
So depending the implementation it is about same as single drive, but can be biased towards better or worse.
Because there is variance in the seek times depending on where the read head was when the request was made.
Which is random.
www.phoronix.com/review/btrfs_4way_ssdraid/5 here is the test that wikipedia references too.
But that isn't RAID-1, it is BTRFS internal raid-analogue
And remember that the RAID-0 results are with multiple drives running side by side.
So only need to compare the single and RAID-1.
So even that Flexible is basically the same, can go into just the variance.
I mean, personally, it's neglectable. But I don't think raid-1 is a garantuee of improvement of performance or decrease. It's not that simple.
No, like I said, it should perform about the same, with some variability because of the different ways it can actually work.
also, wth is fake raid?
Chipset software raid.
oof.
Chipset driver doing most of the work.
Works fine on Windows side.
But can have problems with Linux where SW raid solutions are better.
But in turn those don't work with Windows.
So for Windows, your choices are chipset raid, dynamic disk raid or storage spaces.
All have their good points and bad points.
And then there are some prorietary SW raid solutions for Windows too.
Chipset RAID and Dynamic Disk can be used to boot.
And Chipset RAID mostly works with Linux, Dynamic Disk one doesn't.
Mainly the "Fake RAID" term was olden one to compare to actual HW RAID adapters.
Which in turn are these days to be avoided.
And SW RAID is usually better solution.
microsoft: pay up
HW Raid, Semi-software (Fake) RAID (mostly chipsets), SW Raid.
Dynamic Disk one is in AFAIK?
And chipset raids work fine.
For Storage Spaces?
Or the old Dynamic Disk one?
Used to be that you needed real HW Raid for good performance.
But now you don't, and using one will fuck up recovery in case of adapter failure.
And will completely fuck up ZFS, BTRFS etc.
windows doesn’t support raid 1?
Don't have Home version to test, upper ones of Win10 at least do fine.
what about win11?
And even with Home, you could install Pro trial, configure, install Home.
And the configured RAID will keep working.
Pro and up at least work fine?
don’t think i have pro
worst case i just dont use raid
little less reliable, but it’d be fine
And it might be that you had wrong config.
You need two drives already converted to Dynamis Disks to try to make anything but JBOD.
4tb m.2 is gonna be so nice once i build this pc
And you cannot convert the OS drive to Dynamic IIRC after install?
No, at least gives the option, not going to try.
Yeah, the Windows RAID doesn't support USB AFAIK?
Just SATA / NVMe.
No, I could add mirror to USB drive on Win 10 Enterprise.
motherboard has 4 sata ports but the case only has 2 2.5in bays and 1 3.5in bay
that’s what i get for picking an nzxt case
2.5" SSDs can just be slapped anywhere, as they are so light.
plan is to have 1 4tb nvme m.2, 1 2.5in sata 4tb hdd, 1 3.5in sata 4tb hdd, then a 512gb nvme m.2 as a boot drive
And if you remove the casing, they are even smaller usually.
dangling ssd sounds precarious
even if it’s technically fine it doesn’t feel good in my heart
Double sided tape exists.
good point, good point
People have been putting 2.5" SSDs between HDD mounts for long time for example.
Or slapping them to any available surface in cases with tape or velcro.
plan is to get an h6 flow
so pretty

not a clue, was just to get pcpartpicker to shut up that i didn’t have a psu
Some are good, some are bad.
i’ll pick it when i buy the parts
RM-###(X) for example was the price-quality pick in Finland for long time.
The cheapest ones are crap usually.
Mid-price models depend on the model.
Some are excellent, some are bad.
Model as the line with same PCB and build.
But different ratings with component changes.
Im happy with my HX1000i
have the original edition in my old PC and the 2022 edition in the new one
But it is then high-price category, and almost all of those are good.
I got a seasonic Focus GX750 PSU
Depends on the model.
I don't mind they still exist, aslong as we have the other option 🤣
I'm using Seasonic PRIMEs in Gold, Platinum and Titanium.
But they are "overpriced".
wild guess: production of modular is more expensive?
Significantly.
Baldur, do you have hybrid mode?
Need to test.
In theory spares the fan, but can cause much faster fan deteriation if it is constantly turning on and off.
Not enough during the lifetime of the PSU probably.
Just better components needed to do it.
So you get higher quality product.
So need to put some noise causing thing into the PSU fan with the PSU in the hybrid mode and test if the fan runs at times or not by listening.
Paper strip or something like that.
But even the high-power Seasonic ones seem to run the fan part of the time when they were just on the desk, with 100W or less load.
So need case fans to replace the PSU can for the hybrid to work.
Not load related in reality.
Temperature, just at 30% it might kick in no matter what.
Yes, marketing is marketing.
So if they say load, I say load. But I know what it means.
But according to them it should extend fan life.
And I have couple of those and they run the fan at much lower than 30% load for moments.
I have the same PSU 🤣
And doing that kind of on-off greatly reduces the fan life.
and my fans are off atm.
I mean I have Seasonic Primes. with same functionality, and same marketing.
I mean what is on and off? You benchmark.
That's not a typical use of a PSU. When I game, I do it for hours.
So that means my PC is above 30 load for HOURS and the fans don't turn on and off.
on the desk.
When I quiet gaming, I go to bed.
So in my use case the fans only start and stop maybe a few times a day.
So it works fine at high load.
But the behavior below 30% load with just the temperature control is suspect.
if you benchmark, then yeah 🤷♂️ Ofc they going up and down. That's benchmarking 🤣
Sounds like you have a broken PSU 🤣
Then why are mine off? On the desk? No load?
room temperature is 23 celcius atm.
No, that additional temperature control feature running, and starting the fans if temperatures in specific components get too high.
And as the cooling need is so minor, it almost instantly shuts back down.
Several different Primes have done it for me.
😒
When not being in case, with case fan overpressure providing that minor ventilation.
