hasResult: false, hasError false, hasCompleted true ?
add extra flag?
or hasRun or whatever.
I'm afraid of "well then it means everything is fine" but it's error
maybe then one should not rely on "hasResult" anyway as they are actually NOT expecting any
so they should just use "hasError" anyway no matter what "hasResult" says
note in the end people can always open the data and check what's inside if there is anything error or not
so thank you, no result when error seems the good way π
Not sure what you up to π
But honestly, there is not always a correct way of coding. Just code to your own needs of the needs of people.
And it's almost impossible to read the future, so coding future-proof in a bubble is impossible. If you want feedback from other people, only making your code open source is the way. And then take feedback and modify code.
Just saying, it doesn't have to be perfect from the start whatever you code π
I'm asking logic, the thing is : if the logic is good/provide the most natural informations, then "workarounds" are very easy to code
in the other way it is not possible, and any workaround will soon become very nasty
nasty in the sense it takes shit ton of time and you will break your code, yes. That's why you write tests π
nasty as in can be very inoptimized AND unintuitive
My more mature private projects even have tests, so I can just refactor whatever I want. Ran the tests, everything green and I continue.
noerror noresult : success
error (noresult)
result (noerror)
seems like fitting
:D
yes I was thinking of than and editing
but now I am nitpicking π
but finally what I wrote programmatically works as the just result line is below and says noerror
anyway, it looks nice like that
and I wrote the checks in a efficient way
so I'm happy time to use that now
I would not report anything only if there is nothing to report
and I still have the empty result which is considered result still
so Error / NoError / EmptyResult / Result
possible states
(getData should not possibly return NoError as it should give out result even if empty one
so this is not a very good example but I'm happy with it)
got my laptop back ... UPS just left it on the porch, no knock, no signature .... yeah, a nice box with a giant apple logo sitting on a porch in the urban city ....
is the laptop working as intended now?
wont know for a week until i go to restart it
Oh
but outlook is bleek because its the exact same case (same serial, even had my sticker left on the camera) ... and the screws have not a SINGLE dent or marring on them
so im skeptical they 'fixed' anything ... they just wiped it clean and installed Sonoma on it (when i had Monteray)
Could've been an os-level bug
the laptop wasnt reaching the os
the entire problem was before it even began to access the file system
basically, it was black screening before it even KNEW there was an os on it π LOL
(according to the tech at the genius bar)
or they did a clean job?
yeah
@charred pewter What model macbook?
given the behavior (twice) of this thing, it needs a new motherboard
What year?
M1 MAX 16" MBP ... uh year ...
Yeah, had a macbook who just shut down randomly. They replaced the mobo and all was good. Was 7-8 years ago. Maybe longer.
no clue... its going through setup right now
Read the model number on the bottom case. Its formatted as A####
And it's not that apple has an option with their design. They have to replace almost the whole mobo for trivial stuff.
right, ram, ssd, networking, audio even, its all burned into the logicboard
exactly
If this is the model that I think it is, then you're screwed and need to either replace the mobo (which is serialized btw) or take it to a really really good repair shop that does board level repair.
Why? Your SSD is just a couple of NAND chips soldered on and get this, Apple decided to put the BIOS into the SSD instead of on a separate SPI ROM.
Which means - Your SSD died due to wear and needs to be replaced. This is why your Macbook won't POST/boot up
Again - only if this is the model that I'm thinking of
Yeah, that's been posted in here before by Kade.
Do NOT take it to the genius bar (or any other apple certified shop) because the best they can do is replace the mobo which will more than likely cost you more than getting it repaired
He also had that issue I believe and got rid of his macbook.
sorry, text is tiny, and its doing something, hard to lift it up and read it
my mobo got replaced for free π€·ββοΈ
because Apple said they fucked up. And replaced it.
You either had applecare or it somehow fell under warranty which never happens with apple
Okay yeah wow rare
yeah, and also 10 years ago probably π€£
Anyways if you ever HAVE to take something to the genius bar, I would highly recommend you actually take it to a Micro Center first if there's one near you. They are apple certified (which means they are allowed to do everything the genius bar can do aka reserialize stuff) and it will generally be cheaper and faster
not sure if I am buying another macbook after this one. There is 0 flexibility anymore with their hardware and OS.
its the 2021 M1 max... but i bought it recently (still under warranty)
I would recommend against it. The ecosystem isn't worth the headache to justify buying mac
All my old macbooks, I was able to recover the drive (put the harddrive into case and was able to recover data)
That's no longer possible.
I'm pretty sure that's the one I'm thinking of then
this is the second time its done it... and im hoping they realized its problem and DID replace the board..... but did a very clean job at it, cause i cant tell
You don't get a receipt or anything? That you have details what they did to it?
If it breaks again my genuine advice (as someone who works in this industry) is:
Take the laptop to a nice repair shop near you that isn't apple certified and preferably one that does board level. They will be able to actually diagnose the exact problem and fix it if you wish to. @charred pewter
the letter in the box simply said "They fixed it, and installed a new OS"
Unless you have applecare or you KNOW its in warranty, don't take it to apple certified. There are reports that came out recently saying some lady was charged by the genius bar just for checking her warranty.
the second time they sent it to mephis for repair... the first time they did it there at the apple store
yeah, im not going to allow them to do that, because i know when to bitch
If they sent it to memphis then they probably sent it to one of their 3rd party reworking contractors which do really bad work
Also those places are supposedly only slightly better than sweatshops
its under warranty... they owe me a complete working non-lemon... free of charge. there are no exceptions, and it can easily be taken to court
that lady is simply an idiot for 'letting it happen'
Yes I agree she's an idiot but the fact that Apple tried to pull that at all is not excusable
Just because you bought it doesn't mean you can fix it...

Even a good repair shop is no longer a garantuee since apple does everything in their power to mess with em.
@night girder Screen replacement is still possible but you have to be skilled in reworking and know what you're doing
its an exception to the rule ... clearly someone was doing something dumb. its not in apples policy and im sure someone lost their job already
I watched the video fully.
@charred pewter Are you a fan of apple by any chance?
nope
Okay just wanted to make sure lol
i hate the direction theyve been going for years now
and technically you are correct. But also wrong.
their macos is shit, and more shit, and even more shit π
I have an infernal distate for apple because of the shit they keep pulling
Yes, you can replace it. No, it's not made to be replaced. Like I said, Apple doesn't like 3rd parties. (software, hardware and repair) π
Yeah its very anti repair
It's ridiculous at this point sadly π¦
yeah, apple wants to control every aspect... they even get pissy if you dont use one of 'their' chargers
Yeah, I feel more like a apple slave than a apple costumer π
At the very least its still possible to do. Unfortunately its not practical to do unless you/your technician is already an expert on doing it. Even then its almost impractical costwise
Bc then you have to pay for that experience and knowledge and ugh
apple isnβt quite enough of a pain in the ass to make me switch from them
That's it. The words I was looking for. It's doable. But not practical/cost effective.
i just know my rights under the warranty, and wouldnt let them get away with any of that shit
And the cool thing of the video is. It's two BRAND NEW macbooks.
im already on the fence of demanding compensation for time and money lost in travelling across town to their stupid store π
So they just swap around the screens of new macbooks, one would think it would work, but nop.
I don't know the whole process by heart but what I do know is you have to transplant the LCD control chip from the LCD control board of the original screen onto the new one
Yeah, unless Apple is going to give back freedom to consumers, they lost me.
and also calibrate it.
but to calibrate, you need a tool. Which only apple has
The transplant itself isn't super hard but getting to it (without breaking anything) is very hard (and then like you said calibrating the chip to the defects of the new display is a whole other beast)
I'm pretty sure RRG made a tool for it but I doubt they're releasing it
It's just sad tbh
Apple tries to excuse serialization by saying oh its for security
Okay apple, riddle me this: What fucking security enhancement is being gained by serializing the SLEEP SENSOR in the hinges?
my wifi MAC address is exactly the same as it was before i sent it in ....
Before that you could do mental gymnastics to justify their practices but like
so no hardware changed
Now its just blatant
guess im going to be calling them up in a week when this bricks itself again
Get your money back and take it to a shop
im not going to pay some idiot at some rando PC repair place to tinker with it
Just to look at it, not to fix it
if apple cant fix it... no one can
Bro what?
Apple didn't try to fix it
Read this again
haha you seem to give more credit to the 'technical people of the midwest' ...
Oh you're in the midwest nevermind
I live on east coast we have more tech people here
Send it to Louis Rossmann
yet, i get earfuls from other people about how apple will sometimes even just replace the whole thing with a newer model
so, you have to see where i sit... in the middle of two extremes... no one being right, because nothing is being done as they say happens
oop, hold on
You can send it to Rossmann Repair Group in Texas, they takemailins. However you have to pay for shipping both ways and it could take a while. They're very popular (due to their quality) and have longish wait times
They're also specialized in apple products
Rossmann himself is actually how I first found out about that SSD issue
it cost apple already sending it down to mephis and back ... haha... if they didnt do anything, they just wasted their own time and money π
midwest has less people in general
co-worker is down in austin ... almost a tech central down there
Pretty sure that's where RRG is lol
his macbookpro did something "similar" ... but he at least got a growbar during startup before it died.... they fixed his on the first trip to memphis
i couldnt even get mine to boot into recovery mode π¦
I would say RRG is probably your most surefire bet to get it actually repaired. However again, if its that SSD issue, then repairing it doesn't fix it because its a design defect from Apple because they use shit NANDs
So it would just happen again
Rossman is a tech repair God π
You're better off with a different model if that's the case
He himself doesn't do much repair anymore but his employees are good
fun
not only does he do repair, he is also active in legal and politics to advocate for repairability for everyone.
He is actrually fighting a fight, for us consumers.
Letter I like rossmann too but don't suck him off too much lol
He is the only one with dozen of videos showing off the flaws of apple products.
he is the only one I ever seen in legal battles, like in congres etc.
Ranting and raving about how good someone is in a situation like this is more likely to annoy the person out of pursuing their services than it is to convince them
Frigidman is always annoyed with apple.
Can't get much worst, know him well π
Surprised he bought the thing in the first place π€£
Yes except he also mentioned disliking independent repair techs
Oh wait. No. My bad. Mixing Frigid with someone else π
Where is that cat person.
Also, I am not kidding myself. The chance of someone in here actually taking advice (3rd party repair vs Apple repair) is pretty slim π
but that's a whole other can of worms.
Unfortunate
Its funny my uncle is an apple fan but he's "open" to discussion about their shit behavior. Only whenever I corner him in a discussion about their shit repairability he just defaults to "oh well its about quality control they only want the highest quality for their customers"
Like his mind is completely closed but doesn't want to outright say it
all my mac friends are just closed ...
im gonna run this software update and let it reboot ... haha see if it bricks itself π
ive been so pissed off at apple lately ... their software management is just driving me nuts (what used to be a great OS, is now a pathetic play toy for morons)
and now their hardware... becoming more and more unrealiable
Thank you my friend π
I have this feeling so much the last few years with Apple.
all my prior macs... never a single hardware issue ever ... they were like tanks
5 years ago I had more arguments to say why I bought an apple product.
hell, i can still boot up my Snow Leopard MBP... wonderful 17" screen... and its snappy, works, solid
now, I don't have any arguments anymore π€£ The UX is slightly less annoying to me than windows.
i dunno, apple is fast approaching the 'lets make the UI a kiosk for kindergarteners' ...
and all my music is in a iTunes library. And it (was) a clean UX? Untill they messed up the system preferences π
i mean how much bigger can they make title bars ffs
I am mostly pissed of how they messed up system settings.
and for 2 years or more, they did 0 fixes and no improvements.
They just implemented a half baked feature and gave emself a pat on the back.
its different ... i never was a fan of the old way, as i always found i was fishing in a sea of icons trying to find what i was looking for
now its just a list of icons instead of a sea lol
and whats up with all the new folder icons? what happened to the clean look in 10.15 ??
Why do I have to use a iphone UI on a laptop with a bigger screen?
you could never resize the original preferences panel π
Apple has built their systems to try to get as much money as possible. They work pretty great with each other until they don't. It's starting to approach the "not even worth it" catagory.
in 10 years. Apple will have 1 OS for both phones and laptops.
least you CAN increase the 'height' of the system prefs list panel
and forget resizing windows and all the extras.
yeah
I'm sure black hats will love that. less work for them I guess
it will all just plop center screen on top of each other
In 10 years, we'll all just be docking our phones for desktop use
force you into big screen mode with the most backward way of UX imaginable
it looks weird π
that's my dream tbh. One less device.
I'd rather see my phone become essentially a streaming box for my desktop
Eh, I wouldn't mind if my phone was also my laptop π
Imagine the battery life if you could shave 10w off every phone
if a computer became powerful enough to be the size of a phone, and you just plop it into a dock for a full sized monitor, keyboard, mouse ... i wouldnt be against it
In my mind, that's not and has never been the purpose of a portable device, even a laptop
My biggest gripe once we reach that state is repairability
people are so used to throwing stuff away and buying a new thing
Who knows? Maybe we get a new brand with a focus on consumers and repairability?
Let's just get an implant in our brain, why even need pc when you can be pc?
What is that laptop brand again. Modular or something?
Framework?
so other than a (better) System Preferences ... whats different in Ventura over Monteray? ... cause everything else i 'see' is just as crappy as monteray was
I don't have experience. But it's interesting to see how this develops*.
Yeah, I'm a big fan of the project
I've been on the hunt for a new laptop and considering one of those
They're just pretty pricey
The concept is really interesting. And if they can pull this off, it will open new doors for consumers.
hehe, I just found pictures of a laptop. But it's actually a shell where you put in your Pi π€£
So, basically a Chrome book, but better
A more open schomebook very interesting
Personally I think framework's idea is pretty cool
Speaking of, I tried ChromeOS Flex for a relative for the first time, pretty impressed actually.
They've been using it for a couple months now with no issues
You're impressed with a glorified web browser?
Yep.
Neat
Yeah, because you slide it open and dust it out pretty easily π€£
Yeah. It seems much better at idle power management than windows, and handles 32bit a lot better
While I don't want to be a tinfoil hatter, the fact it's from Google makes me weary. Let me explain, I believe, Google has too much power in the tech world π€£ So anything Google and I am not hooked to it yet, I stay away π
I'm completely with you on that. I'm working on transitioning away from google on a lot of platforms.
so if it wasn't from Google or didn't use Chrome, I would test it out.
However, for somebody that watches youtube and checks their email, I figured it was a better solution than linux.
I mean, you're not wrong. but same could be said on both Microsoft and Apple in that sense.
Open source or die
Guess I'll die, too lazy lol
And I feel the same about those. But I try to not start my Microsoft rant. (ranted pretty hard on em a few weeks ago, reaaaly hard) π€£
I could go on rants about both Microsoft and Apple. but I try not too. apparently some people really like one of the two.
What features did you miss that Linux didn't offer? Or was the UX not pleasant? Too high learning curve?
The featureset is much better on linux. The reason that I went with ChromeOS was because there's a lot less for them to break and then ask me to fix.
There's not really any danger of malware and they can't mess up the system configuration too badly.
So pretty much linux was too powerful
Not exactly the reason why you don't worry about malware in that sense, but I get what you're saying.
KDE Plasma, XFCE, Gnome. Those are the 3 desktop environments I know for linux but I also know that XFCE is terrible and looks awful
And Gnome is pretending to be mac
Just know that ChromeOS, when it comes to security, is a newborn baby. And Linux is a old and tested.
now i do have to say ... restoring my laptop back to what i had all on it and setup ... was surprisingly simple especially given it was going from 12 to 13 in the same process
That's very true
@night girder NT (Windows) is also old and tested. Linux is "so much more secure" because its open and not a janky mess like NT is
So, aslong as you know what you are doing with Linux, you should be safe. But like any OS. An OS can't cure the stupidness of it's users π€£
apparently the 'migration' tool works fine from a full superduper backup ssd
i mean, it even restored (migrated) my homebrew install of PHP
what I mean with this is stupid stuff like sudo 1234 π€¦ββοΈ
Yup
I disabled the ability to run native linux applications, so it can run chrome extensions and android apps but nothing else
Speaking of restoring laptops. Just a quick rant. Why do companies like HP, Dell etc. put in so much bloatware? it's rather frustrating.
sudo su 1234 lloll
it exists on mac too ... lots of extra apps in here i never intend on running
because they paid developers to make that bloatware π€£
@night girder if you aren't a fan, look into ChromiumOS
It's pretty much exactly what it sounds like
Oh, I know, that's my point lol. And so many of them just run in the background doing virtually nothing
Win10 Debloater Master on github or use ADWCleaner or Revo or BCU (wouldn't recommend using BCU for that)
when I installed W11 I got stuff like LinkedIn, instagram etc all installed.
I don't have any of that shit.
Yeah, they pay big moeny to ms for those default install spots
oh I just do a fresh windows install. I need to do that on my PC, but I don't feel like reinstalling everything again.
Didn't have the time to clean it up. But that's a clean install of W11 menu.
They aren't actual apps iirc they're just edge shortcuts
That's why I typically install windows n
Some are, some aren't
Not all of them. And still obnoxious if you ask me.
I don't have an Xbox. Wtf is clipchamp?
Microsoft freemium video editing software
but ... why? π€£
its actually decent weirdly
Ok, and that's fair.
They took features that used to be avaliable in the default photos and videos app in windows and locked it behind a subscription in clipchamp
But I am more a person of "opt-in" and not "opt-out". For ads. For programs. For mails. For anything.
yeah but that doesn't sell. thanks capitalism
I love "opt-in". I spend hours disabling settings in windows. Why not give people an option to disable everything at installation and let them opt-in?
and if you want, they can do an installation with default, like how it is now.
Bc fuck you. That's prolly why.
Then both parties are happy. But that's way too much work for Microsoft. So yeah ...
@night girder they charge you a subscription to output any video above 2k even though it's all done locally
Then I bought a Google pixel. xD
Along with some other features behind that paywall
at least they have good cameras.
I just use davinci resolve
And decent processing power
They're way too cloud-dependant for my liking
probably still better then iPhone 15's
It's an older pixel dw
Pixel 6 pro
Bought referb to get off my Motorola
The one I bought is comparable to a iPhone 12 pro
For processing power
I wouldn't go that far, just install 11n
You do have a project to build a trimmed down W11 installer. But again, it's the community who has to put in the work.
Tiny11 is missing a lot
And the community is doing this "blind" a.k.a. without a lot of official documentation.
It's the absolute bare minimum nececary for the os to function
Yeah, I am not recommending it Fight. But I am just giving an example that it's possible AND that the community did it.
So that just proofs to me that Microsoft have no excuse to not offer us such a feature.
Yes they do. It's not a good excuse, but it is one. #money
I didn't do it because I was afraid too much stuff would be broke.
But I do think it's kinda funny @hollow oak I'm buying a phone that isint too far off my dads motorola thinkphone for around half the price
That's not an excuse. That's greed.
being with how many bugs they just let live in their OS, I doubt that lol
If Microsoft was piss poor, and said: "we need money" then I agree, it's a good excuse.
but that's not reality π
Bugs? What bugs?
I did preface saying it wasn't a good excuse lol
Yeah I know ^^
there is no war in ba sing se
I find it funny that my little sister finds bing more useful at finding shit then Google
hey, good on ya lol. I'm a simpleton when it comes to phones. Don't pay that much attention to them, I just don't buy apple.
I even disable Microsoft printer services/features because I know they can be vulnerable π€£
there is a reason for that lol. Google isn't actually that great.
π
Well google was great.
I just wanted to buy something that's actually gonna work properly vs my current phone unable to make calls 90%. Of the time
I want to be vulnerable... wait what?
was great, I'll give you that
And well I put in wayyyy to much research on what I wanted to buy.
just like america was great, now it's a shit show lol
phones these days are expensive, don't blame you for putting in research
tl;dr -> "it allows attackers to remotely execute code with system-level privileges, which is as critical and problematic as you can get in Windows."

I will say, Microsoft is usually pretty good about fixing major vulnerabilities pretty fast. However, they usually accidently make some more while doing so.
Yeah, they do their best. It's just not that I expect a printing service to be hackable in the first place π
anything is hackable if you try hard enough.
I don't think you can get system-level priviliges by hacking for example notepad or something. But I don't know that for sure.
don't know till you try I guess lol.
my airgapped usb drive inside a 10inch lead sphere says otherwise
@night girder wow, this new System Preferences is just so nice... all ordered in a list, easily scanable, can find things, a clear spot to type a search word with actual results that match stuff... this is just awesome
It's halloween, not April the 1st.
This is what irks me. The whole left space is LOST space, since the menu stays there.
Ah sorry for the weird image format. New paint, gotta get used to it
While on the old preferences, you had a sea of space for information.
lol
I still don't think pushing phone/iPad UI onto a laptop is a good idea. The whole purpose of a computer is having a lot of read space . I can size windows etc to create ideal workflows.
But I do see if they have to maintain one System settings for both the phone and laptop (since the code is now the same) it reduces costs for them. That's the main reason.
This is so much better that the new settings app
It's not for our benefit, I don't believe it.
I know how to trigger Letterdeif π
I personally like it. The same I still like control panel for windows. Same reason. BUT atleast windows let me resize the window of the settings π
fully agree.
The thing that surprised me is, that people actually went along with it. I though the community would push back.
I donβt use settings app much anyway so itβs not that bad but still annoying
thats the part that is confusing .... it was years the "pile of crap" that isnt been ... then they decided to just redo it all. BUT.... they didnt like put any thought behind the redo?!?! like why did they take any time at all then if they were not going to plan it out better
Also one of my feelings.
for me, i'd rather not do anything, than half ass something ... cause half assing is still a waste of time
If they did this feature with more smart, and more features. Like give us an option to sort the list alphabetic out of the box.
Gives us an option of wider window. Maybe give us a option to get old UI? You know me. I like giving options π
Apple: "TAKE AWAY THE OPTIONS!" ... π¨
Or even crazier: let users drag and drop settings into groups. So you can group the settings yourself the way you want.
If you think an option under "General" should be under "Display" it would be cool that we could drop and drag it or something. It would be innovating. It will probably be a bad feature that fails. But better than not trying anything fresh and new π
Every big tech company: "Our consumers are tech illiterate. So less options, less confusion, better UX. Also less maintenance, less code, less developers, more money"
And then you have Linux π€£
isnt linux the opposite of all that? too many features, too much code, too many developers, no money, no UX ?
you cannot generalize Linux. Every distro is different. Some distro's are out of the box. Some are hard etc.
i mean, if we are talking "piles of crap" ... linux takes the cake
linux is really too diversified to make generalized statements
Again, you are correct. But not when it comes to Linux distrobutions itself.
granted im annoyed with ubunto
You cannot say that. There are distro's that are "hard" to set up (arch, which isn't true either) and some are really consumer friendly like "ubuntu" or so I heard.
Some will be opt-in, some are opt-out etc.
Some have an UI, some give you the option for an UI. Linux is very hard to pin down since it's such a wide variety.
The biggest difference is this imo: Linux gives power to the people (and also responsibility) and other OS have the habit to father/mother their consumers and protect them.
is appleβs βunified memoryβ ram or vram
euh, google? π
Probably both
it's not vram it seems? (I think they just don't want to name it like that and are being Apple calling it something "special").
oh itβs apple being weird
I am not familiar with the subject so I am doing a little bit of reading.
"The memory architecture brings together the memory resource available for both the CPU and GPU. This would traditional by split between RAM and vRAM respectively. "
"Instead, the CPU and GPU cores can access the same memory from the same resource avoiding the needs for data to be communicated between different memory locations. The result is improved performance and efficiency."
So it reads to me, that they don't have VRAM (not ram on GPU) but that the GPU and CPU can access the DRAM at the same time.
Can it be because VRAM technology might be patented? And they can't use it because of corpo wars?
just use snipping tool lol
oh wait that was apple nvm
I'm not braining today my apologies
I use snipping tool a LOT
bound to prnt screen by default
Windows+shift+S is a life saver
oh, that's another one. Weird.
Ah well, can never have enough shortcuts to snippet tool π
right?
I learned something today also lol. My keyboard at work doesn't have printscreen, but it does have a snipping tool shortcut for F7.
interesting, maybe someone set it up to be F7?
idk, Logitech has always been weird as is imo
True, but their hardware isn't that bad.
it really isn't. just do things slightly differently
Not great either before I get shot down by Frigid. π
logic is great for office stuff I think π
just spent 20 minutes trying to find the sliders for when to turn the display 'off' on battery/adaptor ... why on earth is it under "Lock Screen" prefs ... lol
I though you said you liked the new settings?
though I wish this scroll wheel was on my gaming mouse. it's roll is hella loose and just ziiinnnggggss lol
i was just triggering you π
And you have a search box.
I mean, what more can Apple do? Oh wait. "If it isn't broke, don't fix it?"
fun fact... 'turn display off' results in nothing
Frigid, try this: shut down your macbook and try to clean the keys.
ha
Whenever I touch a single button, the macbook boots up π€¦ββοΈ
if i shutdown my mac, it wont come back on !!!
sell apple bs, get something better lol
if I shutdown my mac, it keeps turning on!!!!
at first I though I maybe pressed the power button but no, it's just every single button.
why are you pushing keys when you wanted the mac off
so I can't clean my keyboard without random typing in stuff π¦
why want mac off? mac always turned on
cleaning the keys? I take some cloth and I wrub it over the key?
we are supposed to clean those?
you're SUPPOSED to open up Messages.app, and THEN clean your keyboard like normal people do ...
π€£
then send it to your boss, let chaos ensue
And I was thinking: let me remove the battery. OH WAIT. It's a macbook
with autocorrect, you will write novels
Oh I got an idea!
sad but true
if I just let the battery drain. then it can't turn on.
that's how twilight was written
somehow turns on.... WHY IS MY MAC HAUNTED
Joking aside, I was not amused π€£ - "I can't even fucking turn this thing off whenever I want. Can't even clean it. Fuck you Apple"
just another addition to the list of why I dislike apple
I can't say I hate apple really, but I really don't like working on them as an IT...
I might have found a fix for it. Didn't test it yet.
hate is a strong word, but at times like that, when i just want to do something so mundane as cleaning a keyboard, and stuff isn't going as how I expect it, I get annoyed.
What if I had to clean 100 macbooks and I was constantly struggling to keep em shut off? Or I had to open notepad. But even then, sometimes you enter shortcuts and stuff hapens. It's annoying.
As a person that works on computers, hate isn't that strong of word.
i get so annoyed by apples insistence to waste screen realestate with no good reason
that's what it. I was looking for those words, "screen realestate"
and there is a reason, just not for us
I really think they are pushing for one* OS for all their devices to reduce costs etc.
their new Mail.app changes has a bunch of extra shit in the sidebar i cant hide or disable ... making it scroll now
Trying to do anything related to trying to fix apple stuff is borderline nightmare. They make things way more difficult then it has to be. All because they want people to get "apple certified" or send it to apple whatever so they can just get more money from their products
really thinking of switching to a 3rd party mail program
We had another person saying that earlier Deathren, I agree with you π
Like, when Apple anything works, it works pretty well in it's own environment. I'll give them that. but god forbid you want to have a gaming PC in the mix and everything loses its mind
same here, I am testing out protonmail. It's a swiss mail thingy with a focus on privacy. But you have to pay for their mail client or mail bridge. You cannot add protonmail account to the mail.app for example. This has to do with encryption and secuirty.
You lost me at "pay"
their web browser mail is totally freee though, for x amount of mails.
yet strangely we've had a lot of fraud from people using protonmail to signup with lol
Good enough for a spam mail adress π (to receive spam on, not send!)
so protonmail is on our 'high risk' list
so, now people are making a email apps behind a paywall got it lol
Don't be so quick to dismiss them. What I've read of it, they have legit reasons. If it's for privacy and security I understand you need a piece of code. And since they are independent and have to compete with stuff like Outlook and Gmail, I also understand they need money somehow.
They have a free tier. And they have a paid tier. And ofcourse the paid tier has more features.
Then again, I am testing it out, so can be that I find stuff that pisses me off. But so far so good. And I use it to receive spam on. So if I don't trust a website with my main mail adress, then I use the proton one.
I can barely afford rent, I can't afford to get an email app. #brokeproblems
understandable π
I'd more likely look into something like that if I was trying to get a small business going maybe. But that would depend on its capabilities in a business sense
it's not that Gmail is bad. Not at all. It does it's thing. Just wanted to test out other providers.
but if one wants to disconnect from big tech, what other options are there?
There aren't much. that's the problem with how things are done. if something really gets going and takes off, someone like Microsoft or Elon Musk buys it and ruins it
Self-host & thunderbird
thunderbird = firefox Mozilla?
Yeah
Very good, switched over to it a little while ago. Handles multiple addresses better than any other client I've ever used
and self hosting means having a server? Or how does that work?
Yup, you need a server & a domain
Mhm, can be expensive
Not to host email
eh, electricity, server, domain, security (if you are worried about that), ...
Now a days, owning your own server isn't even really worth it. Most companies are switching over to cloud hosting. Which, I think has it's own pros and cons. Just less maintenance on your side.
I rather pay a provider to do it for me π
although, the technical part really intrigues me.
Just to implement it and learn how it all works π€
what? setting up a server? if you're using Windows Server it's pretty straight forward for the most part. It really depends on what you're trying to do with it. A mail server is super easy, just expensive especially for the network gear you should have in front of it.
I'd guess $50 for setup and less than $20/yr after depending on electricity costs
For a low-traffic mail server a software firewall is adequate
Saw a defcon conference about how someone hacked a provider and was able to send emails on others people behalve. And even spam. So everyone who was registered to the provider, the hackers could use their mail and send spam. But when they started to explain the technical details I was very interested.
yeah for low traffic. But a high traffic is more fun to do
There's no point for personal use
I'm aware
really, for personal use, there's really no reason to even host your own. Unless you just have the money and are bored lol
but right now my gmail is free, so I really don't want to add extra costs for mail. At this point.
and I don't want to open my NAS to the internet.
Getting away from big tech is a pretty reasonable cause imo
hehe, lifewire article suggests to use 10 Minute Mail as a provider
Let me make a steam account with 10 minute mail
a raspberry pi isn't that expensive
they are starting to be lol
or at least where when I last looked
pi 5 is releasing soon
π₯§ π₯§ π₯§ π₯§ π₯§
10minutemail? thats another on the 'high risk' chart
not that the service is bad, but rather people who do bad shit use the service
disposable mail, it's blocked a lot for account creation
yup
can't wait to not get one.
I ordered a CM4&carrier board 6 months ago.. mouser says it might ship by december.
also don't set up your own mail server unless you know what you're doing... and if you do.. you'll have it on an isolated VLAN..
otherwise if you do and you don't know what you're doing... this is what happens when you open ports up to the internet..
When are we getting a star trek transporter? I don't have time waiting for a train that's more than 30 minutes late....
low profile switches do actually have a lower activation distance right?
i'm not going insane right?
ok they do
not completely insane luckily enough
Sometimes their total height is lower than other switches activation distance, so yeah, they have to
You can for the most part safely open a port if a game server is always listening on it right?
My udnerstanding is that you can't have multiple devices listen on a single port
if you trust that gameserver sure
I think satis is pretty good about dropping packets if it receives an invalid frame.. like someone looking for open ports
Like all IGPs?
Since ages ago?
Both x86 and ARM.
the bandwidth for the M chips is higher than the usual dual channel DDR, especially the max and ultra version.
I haven't read much about the latency, but as the lines are rather short it may also be a bit quicker too
Kind of yeah
But there are a LOT of super cheap phones that still get the job done or you could get like an Samsung A14 which goes for ~130β¬
Yes, but not relevant to the RAM used for both CPU and GPU part when the GPU is IGP.
And the RAM is just standard LPDDR5.
Just more channels in the higher spec versions like with Xeon and Epyc.
off topic pc upgrade quesh:
i have a 9th gen Corei5 (9600kf) and i wanna make an upgrade to the LGA1700 socket
Should i get a 9th gen i9 instead? Or will getting any reasonable LGA1700 cpu will be better (similar or better than my current one)
I'm using this thing for blender and satisfactory mainly
128 bit per M2 "chiplet" that Apple is then tiling several, with up to 8 of those as single CPU for the Ultra.
Ping me when replying so i notice
Sorry, M2 is 128 bit, M2 Pro is 256 bit, M2 Max is 512 bit and M2 Ultra is two M2 Maxes for 1024 bit.
Single normal DDR5 channel is 2x32bit for 64 bit.
Normal LPDDR5 channel is 1x32bit IIRC.
So only difference from normal LPDDR5 in laptops now is the amount of channels in the higher end versions of the M2.
And that Apple has probably tuned the memory latencies more compared to just JEDEC spec.
The new Threadripper 7000 Pros will have similar memory bandwidth with the 8 channels of DDR5.
And current Epycs have 12 channels, but at lower frequency (normally).
Whops, The Ultra will have total of 16 channels?
Not 8, Max has 8 equivalent.
Depends on how much the Blender performance matters compared to budget.
And how much power efficiency matters.
And how you balance the game performance to blender performance to cost.
And what games matter.

550W for a cpu
Oh well
GN does component level power measurements, HUB only from wall.
there isn't any 9th gen cpus here
From that graph though it makes more sense to get the cheapest i5 lga1700 cpu because even it will perform better than my current setup, and i can upgrade later, thank you!
Ah, about upgrading just CPU on your current platform.
Thought it was about which LGA1700 CPU to get.
For comparing to 9th gen, need to go in steps or check some other reviews.
That upgrading on same MB depends if you CAN get used better 9th gen CPU for cheap from somewhere.
I can but a used i9 costs the same as an i5 12600 so there's no competition
And getting a better MB would be worth it for extra ram and pcie slots i will gain
Do not sink any more money into that old platform
Folks have already figured it out, thanks!
now you get to feel how i felt when you called my 10700F old and slow lol
Wasn't 10th gen kinda shit?
8th Gen was nice
went from a 7700k to a 10700F so it was an upgrade but overall probably mid choice
its nice cuz its power efficient
but speed is starting to be mid
First time Intel had more than 4 cores in a desktop CPU
I'm just gonna ride my 5800x3D until it can't keep up anymore
Yeah 8th Gen was kinda good in my memory
Then just upgrade monitor resolution and GPU and you're still good to go
I mean I'm biased, I had an 8600K
It was Intel's desperate response to Ryzen
i think 8th gen was praised for said core count upgrade mostly
but 9th gen just kinda exists
But that mf still ran until end of last year
I got my 5800x3D in November last year. Before that I was still on my 8600K
yea crazy how older hardware outperforms newer hardware very owften
AMD announced Ryzen with similar performance to 6900X for half the price.
Everyone laughed, Ryzen delivered.
Intel had 7th gen in the making and released it around the same time, so there was nothing they could do in response.
Then Intel came around with 8th gen where they finally gave Ryzen SOME competition
Not really outperform, it just still did its job well enough
benched my 2016 R6 agains my 2020 R11 and the R6 Won whitout any cooling too
5800X3D beats 14900K in multiple games
7700k and GTX 1070 vs 10700F and 1660 super and the 1070 doubled the 1660's performance output
Tbh I don't care that much about performance. It just needs to run my games at playable framerates and nice graphics. Silence would be nice too
to be honest felt weird seeing good performance whitout a single fan spinning again when i ran that
decided to run furmark on the R6 and manually turned off all the fans and after 4 hours straight the GPU peaked at 87C
cpu dident exceed 60C
Yeah that's throttling
@reef onyx If you don't use blender for physics simulations, it's unlikely you're rendering anything with the cpu.
Heard this one before I'm both using physics and rendering using both gpu and cpu
Who started this myth anyway that you can only use either?
As most people do 3D stuff in blender, you use gpu for that.
Depending on accuracy wanted for that.
im just gonna act like i havent had 0% battery for like 40 minutes now
voltage is quite low so its probably just confused
should be at around 13.1V
You are on battery power?
Would seem that the protection circuits in the specific battery might not be working properly, and you might be causing major damage to the battery right now.
The cutoff for Li-ion isn't when it cannot give power, but before it starts to take long term damage from the discharge to too low level.
could be cuz the operating range is normally live 12.5-13.15V ish
Or just bad calibration and hasn't hit the low voltage threshold yet.
You are at that end knee where the voltage drops.
Probably three cells in series battery.
cuz yea its not reading anything and battery life tests pass
That battery percentage is just calculation.
Because as you see from that chart, the voltage cannot be used to determine the charge outside the almost full and almost empty.
The machine tries to keep track how much power has been used since last charge to full.
i wonder if the values have just become inaccurate from age instead of only wear
cuz im prettysure this battery has only about 2000 hours on it
That is what I meant with the calibration.
Many laptops have a calibration test that you run that fills the battery, empties it, and then charges again, to calibrate how much capacity it has left and how it reacts to discharging.
It does runtime calibration too, where that full charge capacity drop is from.
But that isn't as accurate.
yea this one dosent only a battery life test
its also old and slow
turbos a whopping 2GHZ lol
But point is: Any lithium-ion or subtype battery percentage is just questimate, not accurate value.
Based on runtime power usage tracking.
the most reliable way to calculate it is having a very accurate guess at how much power you draw and so how much power you drawn too
and putting battery temperature and ambiant temperature in the mix
So that's :
- instantaneous tension
- tension
- instantaneous draw
- draw
- past draw
- temperature
- battery temperature
- past temperature
- past battery temperature
- a compressed memory of all these from the past battery cycles / pattern
that you need to do accurate guess
then you know the battery health
then you know it's current state accurately
the most healthy way to deal with battery would require inputs from the user planned use cases
that's why some phone use user use cases and calendar to manage battery life
its very probable that the low battery protection just dosent work because it turns off for low battery but then turns back on whitout issues for like another hour except the service light turns on
just plugged it in and the service light disapeared instantly so its even more likely to be that
So you are for some reason intentionally killing the battery?
Instead of just plugging the thing to AC power?
dangit, im not having luck with hardware these days ... that sabrent SSD external enclosure i got sunday ... its acting up today, ssd unmounts if it mounts, or doesnt mount at all when plugged in.
swapped drive with my other sabrent enclosure, and it fires right up and fine
back to amazon it goes!
the Crucial SSD is working fine though in my OLD enclosure ... so its not the SSD (thankfully)
Yeah trolling again
what do you want me to do make a plug apear out of the ground
- Plug it in OR 2. Shut it down
thats what i did
wanted until i could plug it
whit a 3W power consumption i dont see this thing killing this battery or atleast not fast lol
That tells me you know nothing about Li-ion batteries.
From what I've seen, you don't take the time to do your research on issues beforehand and just charge in assuming you'll figure it out and end up breaking stuff
you're sol when it comes to people wanting to help you I think
well i havent broken anything tech related or atleast not yet so id say im not that bad on the breaking end
some would say hes bad at breaking, or breaking bad
research end is mostly cuz i just dont care enough to fix stuff like this
tell me what you see different on these two sata enclosures:
a faulty battery is a faulty battery and therefore why try to fix it
missing caps
on the backside, there is a chip with "25 mhz" on the new one, and on the old one its a "30 mhz" chip lol
Amazon bought from the same sabrent seller ... :/
And Amazon bins all the sources of "same" item in same bin.
i registered it on sabrents website, and the model/serial was correct
Ok, then gets bad.
Another example of a manufacturer pulling a component swap
im gonna do a 'replace' and see what i get the second time π
Found out the SSD I bought had the same and I do notice the swapped controller struggles more with random r/w
if its another crap unit i'm just gonna 'return' for refund
But with Amazon you can have knockoffs and real ones in same bin, and it doesn't matter who you buy from.
If there is legit seller, and knockoff seller, you get randomly from the stuff that both supplied to Amazon.
but i mean EVERYTHING else is exactly the same ... the boxes, the inserts, the baggies, the usb cable ...
If the knockoff seller marks the stuff he sells same as the legit one.
even the plastic 'case' is the same... same printed sabrent logo
But in this case it seems the real thing was downgrade.
yeah π¦ the only difference i see, is that board
and its a fricken $12 item, i cannot imagine someone swapping out the board for a knockoff to save a penny π
but i'll be posting this to my amazon review π "new ones are crap" .... after i get the replacement tomorrow to see if its the same thing (and acts up)
but does it actually make a difference tho?
With most of the filter and bulk caps missing, not working is pretty much expected.
It works "just enough"
Not certain, but expected.
this is the other side of the board ... cant really make out the writing on the chips ... my phone sucks
Also update @charred pewter ups did deny the claim on my gpu. Returning to seller and letting him deal with it.
I'll probably wait untill the end of the week, seller is contesting the claim resolution
But not looking very good π€·ββοΈ
but yeah ... see sunday i fired the new one up, and it seemed to 'work ok' ... drive mounted, was ok, ran backups to it .... but today, the drive unmounts shortly after plugging it in, or it doesnt mount at all. the 'blinking light' on the enclosure is "slow" too... slower than the other one. and its just acting up. cables didnt make a diff, ssd didnt make a diff... its the enclosure
So the new version will work with low stable power draw drive.
But will fail with drive with spiky power draw.
oh man that sucks π¦
and apparently in my case.... both the Kingston, and the Crucial must be 'spikey'
UPS is going downhill
Long ago, as in when this was starting.
they are truly brown π© now π
Yep, I recall
Pretty standard for all couriers and postal services.
The standard coverage is abysmal.
With most you can buy better insurance.
Mostly just trying to avoid sticking the seller with a busted card in this case.
so yeah, missing caps ........ caps make electronics run smooth
Unfortunately the packaging was insufficient.
Single layer of very bendy cardboard and then the bubble wrap was just around the card, not filling the voids.
That should be sufficient, but the lot of bad employees in the companies.
And the companies don't really care.
In this case, the packing should've been sufficient for how much abuse a package should handle but was not for the actual amount experienced for many packages in shipping.
also ive never gotten a package that was that beat up before
Neither have I
Unfortunately, speed and efficiency take priority over delicacy unless you explicitly pay for it.
actually I lied, bestbuy sent me a laptop that was in a local store that the outside box was pretty beat up
Most of the employees either ignore "Fragile", even if paid for.
Or even intentionally select those to kick.
By that I meant paying for insurance
But from what I've seen, seems accurate
Putting your fragile stickers on stuff doesn't automatically entitle you to a special service
I did say "even if paid for".
With all the couriers you can pay extra for legit fragile delivery stuff.
Random stickers don't mean anything, but buying the actual service should, but always doesn't.
They all use subcontractors and shit that can just ignore it
dropped off the crap sabrent
if it was just a defect (it actually had missing caps during mfg) ... ok... but if sabrent is pulling the ole bait n switch ... im going to have to stop caring about them
we'll see with the replacement that arrives tomorrow...
fight it til the end. if that fails, file a claim with your card issuer
if paid with a card π¦
but then, if paypal, they have a dispute system... but usually side with sellers
knowing the ugly end of cc chargebacks ... its usually best to try and work it out with the merchant first
fk paypals system. I tried using it when i got scammed. I explained the situation and they were still like we need to get in touch with the seller hurdurr.. we're going to give them a month to answer. fk you, I called chase and got my money back.
Seller is fully cooperative it seems
I believe it's the sellers responsiblity to file the claim with usps/ups imo
It is and they did
I forget if it was packed well or what happened to it xd
we've had paypal disputes where paypal sides with us (even though the users account WAS breached and wrongfully used) ... but then the user files a chargeback with their bank... and paypal gets hit with the bill and re-opens the dispute again ... but then depending on the merchant, they either cover the fees and loss, or not
Packaging was on the light side, but it should've arrived intact
The box was partially crushed though
Pcie bracket, backplate both badly bent and the card is bricked
we get full cover on all unauthorized use of paypal transactions ... but normally we try to issue a refund when we know it was truly a case of a breached paypal account. but sometimes still paypal sides with us before we can issue the refund ... like wtf
we get hit with cc chargebacks serveral times a month. it doesn't matter that we have a picture of their car on our truck, a picture with the card, and a matching drivers license.. we still get hit
yup... some people use chargebacks instead of first asking for a refund
we hate those people π
we end up banning them, because they made no attempt to contact us first
Me too. I try to work it out with the seller (assuming it's not a scam)
its even in our TOS π
but if all else fails, I don't think fight or flight should have to eat the gpu cost
I'm not planning on it
definitely not! that was all UPS's fault
And seller has stated that if we can't get money direclty from ups he'll refund it for full price
Just rather unfortunate that he then has to eat 500 dollars in damage at that point
When I fixed and sold ps4's I ALWAYS bought insurance on it.. and used packing peanuts lol
Yeah. that does suck
This seller in specific is selling the card because he upgraded to a 4090 and already has that for sale lol π€£
But yeah, that's a lot of money
You can do a lot with 500
yeah i was considering buying a new card and sell off my 3080 to help cover the cost of a 4090 π
but ugh ebay
so on a serious note about the possible bad NAND issue in my mbp (if that was what it was, but looking at more info, it certainly does seem like it) ..... if i opened up my mac, would i be able to visually tell if they did replace the NAND chips?
Only if you'd checked before you sent them the device
just curious cause ... when boards are mfg, there is a certain level of uniformity in soldering ... while someone doing a repair job by hand, its certainly not going to be as 'clean' ?
You shouldn't be able to see any of the solder joints on the nand flash, but there might be some residue from the process
ah
So you could confirm that work was done but not nececarily deny it without having before-after comparison
right, a before/after shot would clearly show differences ...
i was just curious maybe if this sort of swap out would be an 'oh yeah, this was obviously fixed at one point' kind of thing.... you know, like checking for repaired dents in an old car when buying it π
Also, my headphone drivers finally bit the dust today π¦
They made it 6 years of close to 8 hours a day
for that timeframe of tech, thats a good run
most stuff isnt made to last 1 yr now
I'm leaning towards just replacing the drivers, earcups and headband padding
i had to replace the earcups on my Sony studio headphones awhile back cause they disintegrated lol! they are SO OLD now.........
have had them in a drawer all this time too (i dont wear headphones, hurts muh noggin)
i guess back when they made things last .... i cant find how old these are
Ey solved it
Just dismantled the gpu and re-thermal pasted the core
now everything runs better and nothing crashes
So if someone else is having a similiar issue just try repasting the gpu
sometimes thats all it really takes
I bought my Sennheiser HD570 around 1998, replaced the pads and cable after 20 years and they still sound great. quality sometimes do pay off π
Same here as well, expecting my philips fidelio x2hr to last at least 5 years
The elastic inside the head band will die at some point.
Had to replace that on mine at some point.
Maybe high end audio equipment just lasts forever because audo tech has had longer to develop, maybe displays will last longer in a bit
Is this in x2hrs cause i will look out for this
Yes, X2HR:s.
Inside the lower adjustable part of the headband is just some elastic.
And like all such rubber thingies it will die with time and lose the elasticity.
Had to use iron wire to replace that with the length set right for my head.
i still have my first LCD display, Viewsonic ... its still going strong and being used 24/7 for my security cam dvr
colors and clarity is the same as it was when i used it for my game rig sooo many years ago
You can notice that once you cannot adjust the things to sit on your head without drooping to use your ears for support anymore.
Couldn't find easy way to remove the mounting things at either end so I could have tried to replace it properly.
i would roast thoes headphone but myn are also falling apart soooo im just not going to instead
Because I used that iron wire to fix the issue, when they now always fit perfectly on my head, and the fix is both invisible and will last forever?
thats why i like having ruber up top cuz cloth always just falls apart
Anything elastic will.
Including any type of rubber.
It is rubber in that elastic fabric band too.
Question just is: When.
But the bigger issue is that Philips stopped making and selling replacement ear pad cushions at same time they stopped making the headphone model.
Ah, I have forgotten to try to wash my original ones after I replaced them with Dekoni ones.
And I even checked that replacement ones were available before I bought the things, and then that option was just taken away.
Hmm.. does anyone know a good replacements for HyperX Cloud II Leatherette Ear cushions? Mine start to desintegrate after 4 years and the official ones are always out of stock :P
@mortal ibex on that topic (#screenshots message), the pinned post on /r/ublockorigin is a lifesaver
Hifiman HE400SE are also good, tho their super flat sound signature isn't to everyone's liking
Welp, was asking about just cushions, but thanks for the headphone recommendations π
I keep it updated on the regular, uBlockOrigin is an excellent service π
Ugh. One of the venues I'm DJing stubbornly keeps the speakers set at 20%. Because if they're set much higher than that, they emit an unpleasant hum. But now it's impossible to plug in and play without peaking because of how much you need to turn up the gain. And I'm having no luck explaining to them peaking is bad, because it's basically just as loud as before they tried setting the speakers 40%.
So they're running into 60-cycle hum on the speakers... are they powered or externally amped?
Powered
I've pretty much exclusively run into that with cheap amps
Let me guess, they're some qsc look-alike
The older k12s and many other similar models had issues with 60-cycle hum
I'll try and get a look the next time I'm there. They're mounted 10 ft up so I've never been able to really look closely at the wiring or speakers themselves.
I played there last night and it sounded terrible. At least one of the amber lights on the mixer was on pretty much the entire time, hitting red at least once every second.
It's also possible that the wiring is not set up for audio specifically and you're getting some crosstalk causing the hum
Can you just throw an aggressive compressor on the house send in the meantime?
Because the hum isn't noticeable when music is playing, I'm hoping I can just turn everything up, then turn it back down.
The house equipment I mean. Otherwise I might just shut up and wait until customers complain.
At this particular location, the venue owner always wants it louder than customers want it. So everything related to volume is pretty much a constant struggle.
Always some bullshit about wanting it to feel clubby
So. Venue owner doesn't want to invest in good audio system (humming speakers)? Venue owner wants music louder than consumers want it? π€
I sort of get how the venue owner isn't interested in going down the path of learning about audio technology. But the volume thing is confusing to me, because I've gone to quite some lengths to get feedback from customers, without trying to steer them toward one particular answer.
Yeah, it's confusing me too. Sounds like a person who wants hot snow.
If I felt like the customers wanted more volume I would give it to them. And at other venues I do.
I mean, if I was you. I would just let the owner handle his own shit.
I'm at that point. I really should just shut up and stick to my job
If he doesn't want to listen to you ... not much you can do? And if costumers complain about you the DJ, then just tell em the truth π
Do all speakers hum? Or only a particular one? A few?
I've never walked the room to analyze it.
I think the promotions director there did mention he thought it was the wiring
The issue is faulty hardware. So you shouldn't do any shenenigans. They need to fix faulty hardware π€£
If it's the wiring, maybe it's not that expensive to let somebody look into it.
Or maybe it is. Anyway. Still sucks for you. If you are proud on the work you do, you want it to be as perfect as possible.
Unfortunately the promotions director there runs into the same sort of issues, where he ends up just being tempted to turn into a yes man instead of really trying to fix things.
The Zumba people will probably do that just fine without my help π€ͺ
maybe you can assist them
One amusing thing I ran into by the way. One of the customers who's also my friend, started toggling the PFL/AFL on the mixer. Which does get the lights to go away for peaking, and they legit asked if that worked
never heard of PFL and AFL, just googled it. When do you use that?
I don't, I think that's something that's there for an engineer doing live music perhaps?
Oh, I found an example.
You can use PFL to plug in a instrument before bringing it into the mix
and I assume AFL is after the mix
Does Youtube really think date/time of a post are so irrelevant as to bury them? I'm looking at a short right now, and after a minute I cannot find the date/time it was put up.
I don't do shorts so no sure. I can see the date on normal videos.
yeah, I don't like how YT does short tbh.
Huh. It turns out the short I noticed (the only one in a channel) was made in August 2022.
oh no
oh shit
i really hope my pc doesnβt decide to restart itself
iβm afked in a game and iβm not near my computer
it doesn't roll out to everyone at once
Disable wake timers in power plan settings to thwart Windows update.
I successfully avoided Windows Update running on an ancient Windows 10 laptop for months by doing this, before Windows somehow finally forced the issue.
Maybe a year? Wasn't keeping track.
okay good
hopefully that device was connected to the internet π
or maybe not good, who knows
i usually could remote into my home computer but i didnβt bring my laptop
Net connected basically 100% of the time, it's just a spare machine for a browser window.
worst case i end up with less items than iβd like, its fine tho
i jinxed myself literally
1660 super died from just sitting
well not dead dead but unussable kinda dead
ok the card isent dead but all the output ports are
wat
What The Hell Even Is This You Cant Even Make This Shit Up
to be clear here this display is fine it works perfectly
That's psychadelic
any chance this is from thermal expansion seeing how it went from like 15C to 70C in 10 seconds or is it just probably time to throw it in the garbage cuz it has a faulty board anyway
Could be any number of causes
Likely hardware failure though
Is that only in 3d applications?
also only does this on display port and vga not hdmi interestingly
^?
and passed 3Dmark whit 100 points under average so card is working fine but not outputing corectly
il just let it be if it wants to be on shrooms then it can be on shrooms its not my problem
does it on time spy ima try firestrike and whatever the other free one is and see if it does it aswell
cuz its running desktop stuff perfectly normal but as soon as a game or a benchmark is involved it all goes downhill
guess who just ordered 4TB NVMe storage and a 7800XT
I need more storage space but I'm kinda thinking about replacing the current 2x2TB SSDs with 512GB M.2 NVMe as system disk, 4-8TB M.2 NVMe for games + 16-20TB HDD for photos, videos and other not-speed-critical storage.
This is neat.. manage your servers while you're not home lol
Rip your network if you open rdp ports to the internet
ok i found the issue the fan decided it dident want to spin anymore
so the card was running at 700 billion degrees
i should have probably checked that first consdiering it sat for like 3 months
textures are not filling
why do you need that much storage
how are you even getting to 32tbβs of games
that's still more than a complete full game benchmarking suit
Ever thought that when the titanic eventually rusts away there will be conspiracies that it never really existed
oh!
I bet you there are already people claiming the wreck is a manmade fake.
Anybody know of a decent auto sync client? I'm using Seafile (yes I know Seafile sucks I'm gonna switch to Nextcloud), but Seafile's sync client is bad bc if an application deletes a file in a synced folder then Seafile will also delete that file serverside
Basically, I want something where I have the option to stop delete syncing, only file creation and modification.
Why? Game saves
Don't get any NVMe smaller than 1tb, that's a waste of an m.2 slot.
1tb costs about the same as 500gb, so just get tzat
It's called the pile of shame, okay?
AI is smort
Artificial idiocy
but they made it the word of the year, it can't possibly be stupid!!
the p is silent and therefore left out in American English
In British English, you write "Spatispfactourey"
Easy mistake to make
It's Satispfapctory
Fair point.
i feel like storage is gonna be the hot seller for black friday this year
i'd kinda like to see someone here beat my $140 crucial P3 4TB
I paid 160 for the 4tb p3 pro
I feel like we'll see a big increase in NAND prices before that, so probably yes
Was 196β¬ for me, 200β¬ NM790 was the better pick by a longshot
MP34 was 196 too. Better than P3 Plus, doesn't beat NM790 either
Yeah atm it's only really the price that matters unless you do very specific stuff like video editing or something
For playing games you will probably have absolutely no difference between P3, MP34, NM790 or another LettersNumbers SSD
The super shitty SSDs usually don't have a 4tb version, so yes I agree
Yeah just stay with the known brands
Eh, I don't like giving that advice.
Just because YOU don't know a brand doesn't mean it's not a known brand
I've had people ask me "who's Thermalright" or say "never heard of Kioxia"
And then there's the other side of the spectrum: little known brands making absolutely dope products (Keychron, Leopold) while the very popular ones make shitty products (Logitech, Corsair)
I've never heard about Lexar until someone pointed out the NM790 to me.
Only afterwards I realized that I've seen their logo on lots of USB sticks
and also i think every brand has had at least 1 garbage product they'd rather forget they warrantied
pretty impossible to have a perfect track record
I would've said Sapphire is a clean slate for GPUs - but they're selling reference designs now
Sapphire has been the reference designer for AMD for long time?
Or you mean selling with the reference cooler too? As complete reference design with Sapphire sticker?
That thing was thing of type: "Do that or miss the launch" type thing where the design for custom designs could only be started too late to be ready for the retail launch.
No, I mean the AMD reference design, equivalent to Nvidia FE.
Cooler and everything
But yeah, I noticed that they've been doing that for a long time now
Basically everyone sold that at least in start with their name slapped on.
Until they could get the custom designs off to market.
And seems I need to make minor raise to VMISC and VDDG for that 2200 FCLK.
1.10V to 1.15V and 0.850V to 0.900V.
VDDG is downregulated on the CPU from VMISC.
That seems to take care of the very slight regression in some tests between 2167 and 2200 FCLK.
when is black friday??
After US thanksgiving and before the weekend leading to cyber-monday?
When that first is, no idea.
cyber-monday??
Cyber Monday is a marketing term for e-commerce transactions on the Monday after Thanksgiving in the United States. It was created by retailers to encourage people to shop online. The term was coined by Ellen Davis of the National Retail Federation and Scott Silverman, and made its debut on November 28, 2005, in a Shop.org press release entit...
Black Friday is a colloquial term for the Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States. It traditionally marks the start of the Christmas shopping season in the United States. Many stores
offer highly promoted sales at discounted prices and often open early, sometimes as early as midnight or even on Thanksgiving. Some stores' sales continue to...
And that US thanksgiving is 2023-11-23 this time around.
got any suggestions for reliable and cheap furniture?
I'm thinking of buying a new desk since the one i have rn is kinda small
A cheap desk will annoy the hell out of you
Reliable with cheap means usable and inexpensive.
But you can always go the 5 legs and wood route
But things like that depends so much on where you live that no comment.
yep, thats what I meant, not overly budget
do desks that have extra support on the legs like these have a name?
But correction, VDDG 0.850V - 0.900V with default VMISC of 1.100V is probably the best...
any good with a jigsaw?
Hardware is a little different now, but this desk including making cupboards underneath each side probably cost me Β£200 total. I just used a simple Oil/Wax finish as I don't mind MDF, but you could easily decorate it to suit.
nah, definitely not
no way that would fit into my room
could you tell me whats the name for these deks?
they're much more stable than 4 leg desks in general
if you search for a basic office desk, that should find what you need locally
im just gonna assume that the battery percentage isent readding properly instead of the battery just not wanting to work cuz it just dropped 93% in 5 minutes
why do so many people have that same hyperx mousepad
Or it is finally basically dead and doesn't hold charge anymore.
held a charge fine yesterday tho...
And then you used it way past the normal cutoff point, while it had already lost half the capacity.
well idk it nerver shut off for low battery so i just guessed it was the percentage being off cuz its like an hour of runtime off
iirc Thanksgiving is the last Thursday in November
No wait, the Thursday before November's last sunday
Scrap that too, fourth Thursday of November
so on the 23rd
Yessir!
close ish to my birthday
well i guess not that close its on december 9th
37 days to go still...
So, I got stuck with the new experiment on youtubes smart tv app... 45-second unskippable ad breaks every few minutes
ugh
Isnβt it LOVELY
Yup, it's almost as bad as conventional television
ublock origin + sponsor blocker + return dislikes
makes it so much better
I understand that the platform needs income, and I don't mind in-video sponsor adds. With those, I typically watch the first few seconds and skip if I'm not interested
It's kinda funny apparently YouTube outright banned adblock but ublock still works
adblock still worked, it just had an annoying pop you had to x out of
None of that works on a smart tv
every ad break starts with "i suffer from severe to moderate such-n-such" then 2 minutes of side effects watching someone do random things completely unrealted to the advertisement ....
