will still droop same amount, so they look more slack with two close nodes than two far ones

So I'm having some issues that I've never had before with the game (I'm on the most recent official release, not experimental). I can't change my game to windowed fullscreen or it will just permanently freeze, I can't stream it on discord or it will permanently freeze, I can't tab out of it at all or it will permanently freeze... is there anyone else who's had these issues? I verified the files and that did nothing.

Does anyone else have massive start-itis? I love the game, but I'm on my 6th or 7th world so far & still haven't sent the 2nd batch of stuff up the Elevator. I get a tiny bit further each time, learn a little more, then get - bored? overwhelmed? - and start over, again and again. Last night I finally automated my first steel products, and now I'm itching for yet another restart.
I refuse to restart lol all my hard work will be gone
I've restarted a few times, but not that many. To each their own, though
anything I can do in a new file I can do even easier in my current one π
The saves are still there so I could go back if I ever change my mind - but I doubt that'll ever happen. They'll live in limbo until I need the hard drive space & have to start deleting things.
I'm having trouble with keeping the flow in a pipe at max. i have a buffer right after a set of 5 pumps. any tips? playing 1.1

buffers can goof with flow
progress slows down a lot after the first 2 phases and complexity also goes up. that's the game trying to get you to start automation (even very slow) then go explore while your factory cooks
i think it's worth sticking to a save and getting the goodies like jetpack (and good fuel) and hoverpack. but there's no wrong way to play as long as u have fun

I love that you can just build foundations without regards to physics, just made a crazy sky bridge up to this SAM
I did go exploring more this last round, got my first SAM & Caterium nodes & a couple of pink slugs. And I finally figured out how to recolor machines so it wasn't all the same orange & black. Now if I could get it to change default colors instead of one by one... (I'll get it sooner or later.)
just make sure you aren't going up from them ideally
for making the complexity more approachable i recommend looking at your final recipe and working backwards

That's exactly it, it's not so much that lumen is too much for my GPU, but that I'm forced to use a lot of lighting, which is too much for it

This isn't a timed game, it really doesn't matter
And it heavily depends on your particular playstyle. I'm a very slow and methodical builder myself.
Part of the joy of this game is that it's a chill factory builder sandbox, and there's no time pressure at all
if you only finished phase 1 on your first world you're pretty much still a first timer. there's no rush and lots to learn :)

I don't think so. I have hypertubes fast enough that the forest doesn't render before I arrive. In a previous save I had some express tubes so blazing fast, the ground didn't have a chance to render before I got there, and I could fall to my death.

Movement challenges are an integral part of the game. Try building foundations, using power lines and ziplining, the jetpack, ladders, parachutes... there's myriad ways

Rocky Desert: Near the four coal nodes on the eastern edge of the area is a cave entrance. Inside the cave is a SAM node (and two three quartz nodes) that nobody can ever find by scanning.
Northern Forest: Head north to the Spire Coast. There's an impure node on the northwest point and a pure node over on the northeast side.
Dune Desert: On top of the mountains on the western edge of the biome. It's the northernmost one, right by the crash site.||

I did not realize how rough it would be to send 1200/min via a single train car so I might have to rip down part of this train network and just belt it @_@
it's up in the red forest and one segment of it is short enough that 2 trains might not actually work well enough to get a single station up to 1200/min
it can handle 780/m just fine but I don't think it can expand π I'll try adding a second train when I get mk6 belts and see if it actually works but doing the math it seems unlikely

green line I can add a second train and I think it MIGHT be able to get 1200/m. I need to add a second train just BARELY to make it get 780/m right now
red line is so short that it can get 780/m with a single train but adding a second one might add enough downtime that it may cause an issue with 1200/m....I'm not sure, will have to test it
if anything I'll just belt the resources from the red line along the train track and let the green one keep going
it seems tricky for sure
this was a good lesson though, for future train networks I'm gonna plan for at most ~600/m for a 100 stack item per car

You can't, really. It's a CPU intensive game
It helps to build smaller factories and more of them, spaced far apart
any graphic settings or buildings that spike cpu usage?
Maybe using fewer windows so the engine can occlude some things and not render them, but that's more of a gpu thing
But really the only way I can think of that makes any measurable difference is to build smaller factories, more of them, and farther apart

It works well for me because I have a 2070, which is getting a bit long in the tooth, but an AMD2950X, which has 16 cores, and this game massively takes advantage of multiple cores

It could be. Depending on the CPU, thermal throttling could show up as high CPU usage
A quick test would be putting it on a laptop cooling pad with active cooling fans and see if there's any measurable difference
In my case the bottleneck is usually Wine, but that's specific to Linux
because you don't need coal or foundries. iron pipe costs 20 iron ingots for 5 pipes, so 4:1 iron ingots/ore. with basic steel recipes it costs 3 iron ore and 3 coal for 2 pipes, so 1.5:1 for iron ore and coal.
you can take the steel efficiency even further with the solid steel alt, taking you to a 1:1 ratio

Start planning out a massive power plant around this point in the game. Like build one for 20GW or so, but design it in such a way that it's not insurmaountable to quadruple it, as your power requirements grow

ah , use heavy oil residue alt + diluted packaged fuel , 900/min crude oil should give u about 2400/min packaged fuel , u can sink the resin or add water to make plastic , then use excess fuel and plastic to make rubber .

This game, I started my big turbofuel plant with 20GW worth of turbofuel generators (so 80), but I built it all out in such a way that it wasn't a huge deal to eventually scale that up to 80GW and 320 generators

well you need 100,000 nuclear pasta, 100,000 biochemical sculptors, 25,000 AI expansion servers, and 20,000 ballistic warp drives for the final phase, while ALSO having to deal with every step of the production process exponentially requiring more and more resources, topped off with 5x power comsumption

2x recipe cost leads to a max production of (very roughly) ~20 to 30/min of each final spelevator part (no slooping). 20/min would be enough to fill the biggest shipment (100k) in ~83 hours ^^
each project assembly part is like 5 production steps minimum with the best alt recipes, and even that is 32x cost built up over each step so even 20/min would be very hard to achieve
just need to use more screws and it'll be no problem
I reckon that such multipliers make it a bit more appealing to build one factory for each spelevator part only to destroy it and repurpose the ores for another spelevator factory (so you can pump out a lot more spelevator parts/min)

I had tried this but i waited until blenders were full. i didn't check the pipes
make sure whatever is feeding the blenders are backed up as well
and make sure you're not exceeding your pipe limit or your production cap (of whatever is feeding the blenders). double check your math
is it a bad idea to try and max out the pipe? i.e. 6 diluted fuel blenders to 1 mk2 pipe
I managed 360/min on mk1 pipes for 8x coal gens but that was with the inputs split up a specific way, or a loop works too I think
Not a bad idea. but if you're operating at the very edge of pipe limits, you will need to add in a feedback loop. Blenders release fuel in pulses/batches. if the pipe is full when a blender needs to push a new batch out, it can't and will back up until there's room in the pipe, then it does it again, which creates a slosh effect with cascading larger and larger impact (like a domino effect) working it's way down the pipe until you get sizable airgaps throughout the pipe that it causes things to shut down
that "feedback loop" will act as an internal buffer of sorts to minimize the impact of the sloshing as blenders cycle up and down
do I need a packager to deal with the heavy oil residue byproduct of making rubber or plastic??

i've brought all the way to the top of blue crater. 45 extractors + 1 to bring the water up and back down to get the right height. made it higher than my pipes feeding the blenders
every 5 exractors feeds 6 blenders

You dont have to, but id recommend setting up a blueprint that has refinery and 2 blenders, with oc you can setup to take 75 crude 200 sulf 100 coal water and 150 nitrogen (with nitro rf) and then not worry about the pipes. Just have the 300 rf going out on mk2 pipe
Also, because I am working on my small one with DeafBringer, if you clock gens at 240 %each fuel gen takes 10 rf/min (credit to USBeefalo)

you might be having headlift issues? may be more beneficial to do 2 extractors OC 250% to each pipe of 6 blenders.
I also have a basement under there. Mostly belts on the roof and my depots are there. I purposely made the floor so most miners there (4 below) only the power connector sticks through the floor. 2 are 4 M above and 2 on the top)
i did the single extractor and 3 mk2 pumps to make the head lift for the whole thing

I have a little bit of belts underneath the foundation, that worked good for stuff that had to go across production lines. I just left the spaghetti on the one side, it all feeds into a sushi line that gets sorted into storage or sink so meh good enough

I made a blueprint with 8 smart splitters that put stuff into storage and the overflow went back into a sushi line for the sink. but most of it got dismantled ahaha I just ignore the belts
that blueprint was kinda awesome in theory but in practice you can just use a sushi line for input and output for a group of containers
manifold is just a line of splitters, the first one fills up first, then the second.... load balancer is like take a belt with 120 input, split it once into two 60s, then split those into two 30s and feed them to smelters

A good background is PART of the map design. If they would simply extend to those, then they would need more background beyond there. Again just moving the goalposts on that, its not as simple as just.. extending the border and putting flora on it either. The entire map has been crafted to have a purpose, any extension would then have to follow the same scheme

after some really good fun and thanks to a certain couple mods, i have discovered that mk5 bladerunners will propel you to 180KPH, twice the speed of an Explorer on ionized fuel
using a long mk6 belt, this speed increase to a staggering 281KPH

People can run out even without that, if they just want to fill their spelevator faster. What really makes it more feasible to finish all resources, imo, are input multipliers as they effectively cut down on the number of machines needed to process all the ores into products (which few people even have the hardware to challenge in the first place, normally)

vehicles will wait if there's another vehicle in a path, and you can split and merge paths
technically yes - vehicles will now follow paths directly
but you can still drive vehicles with all the physics

I reckon there must be a few posts about keeping the ability to record paths (at least for some vehicles)
Also because that's the only way to have vehicles autopilot over jumpads, which is another funny feature of the old system
if you have legacy vehicle paths, they might look super jank if they relied heavily on physics to work

from the convos ive had with the dev team, its no longer possible to use the legacy system. but who knows, maybe if theres enough pushback it can be brought back in some capacity.

I had a truck route going from a lake to the top of a waterfall, all via carefully placed Jumpads, with the trucks weaving between the tree branches as they flew through the air.... 
what about elevators for vehicles?

Tbh, I also pretty much binned the whole idea at some point because it didn't seem very reliable and a lot of work to set up
(iirc, the old Omnifactory ran on some such trucks)
nah, it's just a filter on truck stations
so a truck carrying a lot of different stuff only deposits some of it
By "reliable" I'm not talking about trucks not reaching the stations, but rather them not engaging properly with jumpads sometimes (so instead of jumping they just phased to destination after a while)

If you wish, you can avoid or reduce the full-time with any of the following:
- Making a balancer instead of a manifold (no fill time)
- Manually prefilling machines (no fill time)
- Adding containers that "oveefeed" the manifold via some mergers along it (much lower fill-time)

It fluid traffic wasnt halted on docking, fluid cars would be absolutely goated
