I am trying to figure out the layout of my factory. I have a elvated factory doing everything until motors. I want to add another floor where I will probably do the plastic/ruber/microchip stuff and on top the railway floor. From what I read, I will need manufacturers but I do not have them unlocked. How tall are they? Is a 16/20m floor a decent target for that?

afaik whenever you change a cycle, clocking, shards it applies to the next cycle
but also everything it can affect is also infinite and if you're going to say 'slugs' there's enough slugs on the map for 5000+ power shards and you can make them later
so it really doesn't matter

That's what I plan - maybe my description was not good enough. I will make refineries nearby oil fields for both power and plastic/rubber and I will send them in via train. Then whatever uses the rubber/plastic will be handled in the floor in question.

That's what I am planning, crude oil into water tower being in the highest point of my planned factory. Any upwards pipe in the subsequent production line will not need pumps if its elevation is lower than the water tower. Am I mistaken in this assumption?

alternate recipes are not better by default
there are no good and bad alt recipes. they're all situational
break it down into segments. First find a area that satisfy's the largest amount of resources. (usually somewhere near water)

i love nitro rocket fuel for its simplicity, but everyone here talks about how awful it is because it needs twice as much sulfur as the standard production line
my first Cube factory was over a small pond
its fine if you dont need that sulfer. There is many sulfur nodes in the game using the onbes just in the blue crater for Nitro rocket fuel leaves plenty for other projects

I did my math wrong and didn’t account for the fact that modular frames are crafted once per minute two at a time
better to over do it than not
So I’m producing 20 modular frames per minute instead of 10 which lets me work with double

No guides that I'm aware of, it's typically just a few simple tricks.
Balance your coal gens when you get there. A guide for that is available should you want it.
After that, incorporating geothermal at the same time you are exploring is just free power. Pushes you to start producing a part you'll need plenty of anyways.
Next, there are a few really great alts for oil power production. HOR and both diluted recipes allow you to (I think) quadruple everything.
Turbofuel isn't a bad thing to produce, especially for its use in certain recipes, but many people go to rocket fuel for the increased energy density. Ion fuel isn't generally regarded as "worth it".

New zealands annual power usage is 40 thousand Twhr's, we are a decently sized island off the coast of Australia, with a population of 5.4-5.5 million and we run entirely without nuclear, its all hydro electric, wind, coal and/or geothermal mostly produced in the south island. Me wanting to be able to see 10Pw of power production is so i can come to produce the countries annual supply
If trying to use the world grid. Not sure if fixed. Havn't used the world grid for some time. Personally I always use 4m if going straight on the ground. 2m if I am trying to go "just above"

I know I can build from the dimensional inventory, I meant if you want to use compact coal to manufacture turbo fuel, dimensional depots don't do anything. so they're good for putting stuff in your inventory, but not transferring inputs for different factories or setups.

Ours in Ontario is 50% or so nuclear, but we have shitloads of fresh water and lots of uranium in Canada
Personally I use Satisfactory Modeler, which I find the organization much more powerful. But can also use Satisfactory Tools and it's tabs if you want to just autogenerate production chains.
My current model is deciding where my input goes or letting it overflow to the next process.
This branches out massively and uses so many machines in one condensed location

If doing regular fuel, the "better" options are Diluted Packaged (refineries and packagers) or Diluted Fuel (Blenders)

People saying that transporting oil large distances sucks. Is this because of headlift limitations or is there another reason?
There's a baseline difficulty that rail capacity is lower for fluids than for solids
And then there's a difficulty working with pipes, people find it harder than solid materials
I think personally a lot of it stems from earlier EA issues. Imo, so long as one goes straight up and over to where they need if pipeing. Can train it, via packaged or fluid car, but as far as I can tell, ymmv

Depends on what kind of operation you're running and what resources are being moved. Do you want a dedicated fuel operation or are you making fuel to get rid of residue?
In most cases alt recipes offer different options, not better ones necessarily

canisters won't be an issue since I have a good alternate recipe for that only requires iron and copper
In that case you'll want enough plastic production for making containers and pump both those and the fuel through a packaging station
I used heavy oil + heavy turbo, didn't really care that it made less turbo per crude
As for which recipe, use your best judgement. Again, they offer options based on what you have available

if it's the percentage, it's "upkeep". it basically tells you how often the machine is working. it should be 100%. IF not, it means it's not always on, usually due to low input, so you might want to increase input
If you're still not sure, build small and test the waters. It'll save headache if you want to rearrange

Idk, but buffer with double pipe connection can help with trainstations as the the feed to station is blocked when train loading animation plays, so it has time to catch up
yeah thats what made me think of it, first i thought have buffers totalling the same amount a station holds, then i figured that sloshing is more of an issue with full pipes into a buffer than half full pipes
so it makes sense that long distance transfer is similar
i always treat fluid as transfer between containers not movement
It's honestly better to package liquids and move them that way, saves needing buffers and gives you way more liquid per train

Heavy Oil Residue
The alt recipe i wanted an got, turns crude oil into HoR as the main product and a tiny bit of polymer resin as a bi product
Its much better and easier to use in calculations for turning HoR into fuel
If you want plastic though, you can just setup some more refineries and a couple water extractors to turn the polymer resin into plastic
Or the same for residual rubber (residual plastic is the other recipe for plastic)

I made my stations extra large with 10 dunno name to load unload, if I add another station at the other end, and make 2 trains, one for one end and one for the other, each with 5 wagons, will it works? (Station end with a curve to turn back) I took so much time to make them and have signals works...
1 to 5 works if the slope of the rails isnt too big and if the cars arent too full
Currently building my new mega storage at the center of the map (very hight), made 3 stations on origin place, 3 stations there (need to build one on desert later)
Counted about 20-25 items to send to my center storage from origin (including nuclear plant close by origin)
I lost lots of time to check (as trains where falling back and wrecking others trains waiting at the entrance) lots of micro management... 6 wagons that looked full I was able to go to minimum 20-30km/h at max hight part (a blueprint with spiral)
Spirals are the worst kind for trains in terms of friction forces but if its pretty gentle pitch it might work

Buffer it with a industrial organizer on both ends. Have more or less in the buffer depending on the train input and out. If you have a large distance you may need a larger buffer pool. Some trail and error will get you where you need to go

I just spent 30 minutes making a blueprint, creating a directory to put it, saving it, then when I tried to build it it was not in the blueprint list. Fine, I'll save and reload. Now the blueprint is there, but the directory I created for it is not and the blueprint is in the default unassigned folder. Absolutely frustrating experience, do not want to continue

If you create a blueprint without selecting directory it just goes to undefined (or it just goes there on it's own even if you did for whatever reason...), but then you can just open the blueprint build menu, click edit and drag it wherever you want
Like I detailed above, I created a directory for the blueprint and saved it there. The blueprint did not appear in the build menu until I have saved and reloaded the game, and even then the directory that I had created for it did not exist and it was in the default directory. This has happened to me every time I have created a blueprint on both PC and PS5

It works fine for me. I think what Kelle is witnessing is some writer previliges not given by Windows. so Game thinks all is fine but it is messed in Explorer etc

This is a Session issue then because game is not allowed to properly write. If you can, change your session's name to something simple without spaces, like "Impurelimestonenodesbest"

there is something wrong with cars in that game lol, when my car got negative speed from falling back from the mountain it somehow started accelerated against gravity gaining infinite speed back and up to the sky. Now i have car somewhere in the space that i can see as a small black dot far far from map borders and its not falling down, so i assume it stuck in the space forever?

I never use them on foundations or such really.
And especially not multiple vehicles on the same path, that can cause way too many weird issues due to ghost hitboxes
Idk how but when you get close to them and they switch from simulation back to physics, somehow they sometimes desync their hitbox
And then they get blocked by some ghost hitbox or get launched into space due to such hitboxes

Buffer with industrial storage at input and output, it will just stagger the delivery of resources slightly
