Wait yes cuz valves?
I prefer one global network xD
only from one end of valve to another. Any pipe section still can (and will) have backflow
Cuz if so good too know for future use of valves
The valve only flows one way, but there's no way to stop the pipe on either side from doing wacky stuff
Or more so the lack of future use
use of valves is literally "never use them"
Well there is, it's just a matter of engineering it all properly
I see
Valves are generally of very limited use
Okay yeah I won't be using them anymore lol
And they usually cause more problems than they solve
Yes, You can 'direct' the "flow" with pumps. Still, fluids should always be in a loop.
You can direct it yes, but pumps also don't stop sloshing or backflow
I low key hope they never change fluids I like them
Honestly I do hope they simplify them, they're a major source of consternation for new players
"sloshing" is only due to pipes not being full. Either way, pumps and valves both prevent "back flow". And valves are only 'bad' when actually trying to use them to "restrict" flow and expect the value set
I jsut don't know what would be better cuz I also like that they're semi realistic
See but also super simple too figure out imo and once u do they ain't too bad
I think it's a nice learning curve
What I really don't like about pipes is the lack of any visual feedback; you can't actually see what's happening inside them
You have to deduce it
You can open a window on any pipe segment.
And, the standard mk1/2 pipes have flow visuals when the pipe is long enough.
the thing about valves is:
- they rarely have the effect the player wants
- they often cause issues when used in common ways
- they do not really give any benefit that wouldn't be possible to reach with other (and practically better) ways
I'm very much aware that very small percentage of players have very small percentage of setups, where they claim that valve has fixed the issues they were having (and in a few cases it was possibly true), but it's so situational that my advice in general is just "do not use valves". New players will (hopefully) follow that advice and once you're experienced enough, you're free to come back to valves and experiment with them.
But most of the "valves fixed my issues" claims I see around are actually "while I was adding valves, the setup filled itself (or I accidentally rebuilt and fixed a wrong connection), which made the setup work (full pipes = happy pipes), but I'm incorrectly attributing that to valves"
(I don't want to write this thing every time someone asks about valves, but it's basically what I mean behind "don't use valves")
Yeah bu that's really not good enough, that just shows you what the pipe is doing right there, it doesn't give you any indication of any backflow/sloshing that's happening in a segment, or if it's bouncing off the end of a pipe, or if you're feeding it from two sides, it's difficult to see
The pipe ribs do help a bit though
Full pipes does not = happy pipes in my case
All's I'm saying is I think they can be improved and I don't have any good ideas lol
Again, this "sloshing" is only happening when A: trying to run on a single 'deadheaded' manifold. Fluids should always be in a loop and all pipes should be full.
Yes, and that is not intuitive at all
And B: in many cases where buffers are not plumbed properly or headlift issues.
I know full well how to avoid the issue, my point is that it's difficult to figure it out and it's a very steep learning curve
if your pipes do not work when full, you have some issues in your setup
But, true, once you get it, you get it
I mean, no fluid system that has multiple sources ever runs off of a single straight line π€·ββοΈ .
And if they do simplify them I hope they leave the current system as "expert mode" or whatever
Because I do like them
Why do I waste Singularity Cells on these portals, I never use them xD
Also, the early game coal gen, when you need to figure out how you can get 360 water to 8 gens, should be 'intuiutive' enough to show this, but with all the 'jazz' that surrounds pipes (worse than screws) It makes it VERY convoluted for someone seeking help.
I think 80% of pipe issues could be solved if "prevents backflow" was added to the pump description
that would be a lie
Nah
pumps do not prevent backflow
But, one way pipes could do iy
The Plumbing manual does a great job at trying to 'rectify' this, But I believe it also makes things seems WAY more complicated than they are
Just hook it up bro, live the dogepipelife
plumbing manual is more like "list of possible things you can do with pipes" rather than "please read this to learn pipes"
That manual covers a LOT of edge cases, too
Umm, yes, they do ...
Had me questioning myself for a sec lol
I still refer to it when I need a VIP
no
pumps prevent fluid from end of pump to go to beginning of the pump
they do not prevent backflow in pipes at all
Thats.. What it is, no?
you can have backflow on both ends of pump/valve
Pipes work best if kept as simple as possible, match production and consumption, no complicated setups xD
fluid does not travel through a pump in the opposite direction.
No, they do not. The fluid mechanics in this game for all intents and purposes make valves and pumps ineffective for stopping backflow in a lot of cases
And, this :you can have 'backflow' on either side is not saying pipes do not prevent backflow.
At the exact spot the valve is, yes, it will stop backflow. But when a pipe segment is considered as a whole, they are ineffective for that purpose
yeah, specific fluid instances do not travel back
but the connected pipes can still have fluid flow backwards
which means that unless your whole system is all pumps and no pipes (which is impossible), you will have backflow
This mechanic is covered somewhere in McGalleon's manual
That little section answered a lot of questions for me
Trains should toot back when you honk at them
also see the image I've shared π
Hey Striek
What channel?
Earlier someone said phase 3 makes this game a train simulator game
Hey that's my name!
And thats how I'ma play it
10 messages above
^ here
Currently uprooting my entire home base setting up stations and relocating. I'm excited
well, it can, but you're not required to do so π
I finished phase 3 only 1 train and it doesn't do anything but drop.off coal.for no reason
heavily recommend to keep old factories alive rather than dismantling them
My policy is to retrofit with alt recipes
thanks again for your help yesterday with my power plant issue, got all my pipelines fixed (had to add one on each line), I now have a solid 32k MW power available
Keep the factories, set them up to load onto trains and relocate home/storage base
ohhh I didn't recognize ya, sorry
No problem
eh, unless I have a very good reason to rebuild it, building new things is practically always better
If resources available
fyi, the proper unit is "GW", not "kMW"
I see
So are valves just useless then? xd
But it's fun
ABout the only reason I only delete and rebuild is "This is a pretty spot and I like it here but I want something better"
yeah, they are. See also my description in the wall of text message above #satisfactory message
I delete and rebuild when I realize my shits ass. Which as my brain develops happens a lot
They're a very niche use case, unintuitive, difficult to understand unless you're a literal fluid dynamicist, and generally cause more problems than they solve
yeah, but if you instead just build new and keep old, you have more production for less effort π
But those nodes will need to be optimized for the future so I just optimize them when necessary
If you can drop in refineries instead of smelters and double output, and all you have to do is plumb in water, retrofitting makes sense imo
Especially since id rather use an area with abundant resources and some foundations rather than finding a new area
I started in the northern forest with that 4 pure iron area
So I wanna repurpose it
that's a misconception, you don't really need to "optimise nodes"
worst case you can just put a splitter after miner and use excess material to do something
but generally there's so much resources all over the map that you won't really run out and it doesn't matter if your miner isn't running at 100%.
There's not all that much oil
well the game kinda wants you to expand and build all over the map π
The game effectively has infinite resources. Unless you TRY to consume everything on the map... you won't.
Eventually
well, with oil you immediately unlock the extractor that can cap the node π
But my home factory ugly AF lol
ugly factory still makes items, better than no factory
That, on the other hand, is a good reason; it's your factory and if you think it's ugly, then destroy it and be happy
build it some happy little trees out of orange beams
And live the no-oil life? xD
Unless u have clean pipes they do also just check the segment of pipe for its flow rate
Yup that's how I rushed mine this save
I have enough stuff saved up to easily disconnect it for a few hours
Would probably take me 10 at most
You can also buy aluminum sheets in the awesome shop
the point is that you have two ways to go about it:
- dismantle the old factory (spend time doing so) and build a new factory (spend time doing so) -> result - spend more time, have one factory (new one)
- keep old factory (no time wasted) and build a new factory (spend time doing so) -> result - spend less time, have two factories (old one and new one)
π
i wonder what maxing on no oil life means
I like the first option simply cause box town has to go
Hellish xD
again, your choice, just not recommending it (it's also a common source of burnout), but you do you
There's a reason my world is so small after 120 hours
Im used to it by this point lol
it seems u can skip plastic entirely
I think so... didn't happen with me XD
doubt so
i mean not from the get go
how would you build manus or pipes or trains?
Skip plastic they said... It would be fun they said... xD
#screenshots message
but why skip it? π€
I didn't xD
to protect the doggos from microplastics
just curiosity
Doggos should just stop using the shampoo with microbeads in it
but think about it, shouldnt it help with brain plasticity? its in the name
Can they be fed into the sink
I should enable FICSMAS on the server
The snowballs are the only truly useful thing out of the event
But I made an announcement to all Doggos that Christmas is cancelled
I keep forgetting this
This save I've already automated snowballs, but not nobelisk yet, so I'm using them as my standard boom-boom tool now
that and the fun of telling people the snow biome got added and the results when they find it
Is that new this year?
nope, was added previously.
people seem to not notice it for some reason...
Yeah I thought so
how long can I get away without a full modular frame factory?
3.5 minutes
so I NEED a dedicated factory what are these used for anyways
Which ones? Heavy Modular?
Stuff
personally I'd automate anything you need for building and possible anything you'd need for progression
It's an automation game after all, so why not automate everything?
Versatile Framework, and you need them for Heavy Modular Frames
I want to get into steel but I guess I gotta get into modular right now
Im only making about 18/m give or take
it's just more rewarding to make stuff by hand
You're fired. With extreme prejudice.
Is this in the same vein as it's more rewarding to use Factory Carts to get around xD
Even if you need back surgery after a typical 100m drive
my factory cart started smoking so I left it at my coal plant
No the carts are for efficiency which is its own reward. They're faster than my blade runners
I should build a drag race area
Ru Paulβs track section?
Not that kind of drag xD
ive discovered that my crude oil station is NOT it
#screenshots message for whatever reason it just is not filling fast enough at all and my train is always waiting for the 2nd from the left fluid station to fill up
That looks overly complicated, you don't need any of those pumps
i mean i feel like i do, the headlift from the extractors isn't enough to reach my station
and i just copied what it had on the satisfactory wiki
1 pump is all that's required per pipe at the bottom of the vertical lift, all the rest can be removed on that foundation area
wait I need coal back at my base for steel??
If you want to double up the freight terminals, have 8 tanks instead and just in-out
A single pump will add its headlift to every connected pipe segment until the next pump
Or rather, reset it to whatever lift it provides, in your case 50m
You need coal from somewhere
this is way simpler #design-and-architecture message π
i don't mind complexity so long as it works and for some reason what i've got now doesn't work reliably
The problem with not-simple is it works until it doesn't and then it's very difficult to figure out why not
You're just wasting power with all those superfluous pumps xD
They're literally doing nothing other than burning electricity
I just got into phase 4 and I don't understand why people are having so much trouble with aluminum
Only 10? xD Casual π
Does it notify beyond 10 or does it just give up
I think it does cuz I remember a picture of someone getting 14 hours or something like that
kinda wish the messsages got more schizo as the hours went on
Not sure if I'd want a bottle of FICSIT Water.... it's probably either polluted or laced with stimulants xD
Specially formulated to "get back to work"
So any idea why my train doesn't want to go to the next station
Wait actually there's one thing I should check
No route or signalling issues
ooooh I just my first smoopersloop
Station correct way around?
Yeahhhh that what I went to check ππ
oooh I got a parachute
If only you could artificially make themπ
Could edit them in if feeling cheaty
NAHHHHH
Save them ultimately for the hardest to make items methinks
There was a glitch for a while where you could duplicate them under specific conditions
I might put passive creatures and keep inventory on, but CHEATING ITEMS IN is where I cross the line
Yeah I saw that
Draw the line or cross the line?
It was before 1.1
what do I do with these? I just threw them in the mam
Draw the line mb
for a starter steel factory is 3 foundaries enough>
you can basically flip a coin to get the answer
since that varies a lot based on your playstyle
oof
Well, not really, because I do more than 3 foundations, and if you're not playing my way, you're playing the wrong way
except they asked about foundries π
foundries not foundations lol
*foundries π
guess I just gotta go for it
*advanced smelteries
Hi all i watched i youtube video that had a power mod with some neat power poles but for the life of me i cant identify what mod pack contains them even tho they list the mods, i was wondering if someone might know its the video, Satisfactory: Advanced Power Grids Guide
about the 1:25 mark
Took car for run because I hardly drive it and can confirm it's bloomin' freezin' out there

whats the water extractor to coal gen ration?
3 to 8 gens I think
I have 4:9 and barely getting water ughhh geuss I gotta fix my pipes again
8*45=360/min == 3 Water Extractor @100% clockspeed
is there a "show in-game fps" option? i installed some graphics tweaks but my framerate kinda broke, and i need to see actual numbers for what effect changing a setting has on my fps
If you have Steam you can enable FPS in there
...you know, i... kinda forgot that's a thing steam overlay natively provides
In-Game -> Performance monitor, drop-down to position it
...eeeugh, 35fps average, so i wasn't going crazy
...oh. the graphics mod enabled lumen when it wasn't active before. that... would explain it. back to solid 60 again ^_^
Don't think you need that now xD
(also doesn't help that i'm on linux, with an nvidia card... not the best of combos)
Situation has improved compared to how it used to be
sadge I only get 60fps cause vsync
Don't need more than 60 if that's the screen refresh
I like knowing my fps is higher /s
You like rendering frames you can't see? xD
duhhhh
that's what i've never understood about source games (default fps_max of 300 all the way back to an era where average hardware was lucky enough to get 60 at HL2's launch), or claims in competitive shooters that "rendering more frames than the display is capable of reduces input lag" (which is complete nonsense assuming the game was properly designed to have game logic (and thus input polling) decoupled from render rate)
Yes there doesn't seem to be much logic to that claim but maybe in some games it does help
well in some games fps matches timings like in GTA if you have higher fps numbers locally rendered stuff like flags move really fast
see, that's an example of a game not being designed properly (see also: lego island's infamous lack of deltaTime leading to hyperspeed movement on modern hardware)
i just got the freaking ending sequence spoiled bruhhhh
How
i was watching some random video talking about the game and out of nowhere it just showed it no warning or anything
There's an ending sequence? XD
i just mean like the last space elavator thing
Some console ports historically have been fps-tied/locked
can kinda relate, i watched all of NerdCubed Completes Outer Wilds (thinking i'd never get to play it since it was described all along as a Permanent Epic Exclusive), only for less than a month later mobius was like "we managed to renegotiate it to being TImed Exclusive and it's coming to steam tomorrow lololol"
Im having fun with this train
iliketrains.gif
why use something that gives no value? π€
How can something that is useless give value in the first placeπ
Sigh... the good old nvidia crash where all the screens go black and the fans ramp to 100%
Satis seems to trigger that occasionally
haha triggered lmao
Only game I've seen it happen in, something borked somewhere XD
Punishment for refitting the base
Wanting to play SatisFactory but I've played it so much over the past month Im getting burnt out π
Power through the burnout, achieve a burn-free mind
Good point
Could try meditiation lol
Even so, 536 hours of any other game would've been enoigh to burn out several times over
Good effort xD
Oh well, time to expand the factory
Wish there were thicker cables >:
They do look quite wimpy thin especially on the pylons yea
Like structeral cables
Tryna build a suspension bridge
Oh, yea that would be nice
Clean MK1 pipes are an option, but they're not perfect
Yea I've seen some designs on Reddit using that sort of thing
So questionβ¦. Advice. How do I figure out when to use an iron node for iron vs combining with coal for steel?
don't
instead figure out what products you want and work backwards from that
Could be worse.... the AI told me that I'm in Potato-Mode when I said I'm playing video games xD
At end of tier 3, and I need a lot more steel than iron now or so it would seem. I can make things work with alt recipe butβ¦
What're ya needing a ton of steel for?
you mean your pc is so slow it might as well be a potato
Either that or me is very slow... or both XD
XD
Meh, My need for encased beams, and versatile frames, and pipes for something else. It seems with 5 foundry going I have a choke point right now and setting up for tier 4 production
for each of those items, pick an amount you want to automate, calculate backwards how much ore and factory you need and build that much
Cool I will try that. Thank you
Working backwards is generally the secret sauce
cute potato confirmed
Certainly a potato, not sure about the cute part π
whats your steel production looking like?
no cute DRINKS no eggnog no non no no oooo tea no JUICE in my stupid cup WHYY
Why does my water keep over filling in my bauxite factor I have 900 water going in and out it should be the perfect amount but for some reason it keeps backing up and I have to empty out the pipelines
im not brainrot proficient enough to understand that kind person on the internet
Not able to get in ga,e right now, but running one pure iron with mk2, 2 normal coal with mk 2 mk 3 belts 5 smelters at 100% processing 220 ish per min allowing 1 pipe at 100% 4 beams at 93% ish
dang Im at 120/m with 2 iron mk1 miners and 1 coal mk1 miner
i want other liquids in my coffee cup
like whiskey?
I think being able to have photomode filters on normal gameplay would be cool :3
SAM
eggnog juice plutonium
radioactive ficsmas refreshment
Static systems (that have a set water input) generally don't work well, because they can only function at 100%, and not a fraction of a percentage less. Any decrease in water consumption will lead to a clog
You need a system that can dynamically adjust water supply to match demand
Is it time to discuss VIPS again
Cute potatoes in your area! π₯

@magic rune
or claims in competitive shooters that "rendering more frames than the display is capable of reduces input lag" (which is complete nonsense assuming the game was properly designed to have game logic (and thus input polling) decoupled from render rate
This is not correct because you're not taking into account that the frame scanout itself takes time.
If you render 60fps on 60hz then by the time the scanout reaches the bottom of the screen, the frame that it's updating the display to is 16.67ms old.
If you render 1000fps on 60hz and hotswap the scanout onto each new frame, it's never more than 1ms old. So even if you sample input in the most optimal way possible, there's 15ms to gain there.
The gain is usually much larger though, sometimes reaching 100ms because of added latencies in the graphics pipeline and developer mistakes / inefficiencies.
Now I'm thinking about that cake, thanks
Surely get horrendous tearing
How're we feelin about this? #design-and-architecture message
Im questioning the advantage 15ms bring
Looks cool
do you guys prefer to make most of your stuff nearby and ship the materials there or build separately and ship the final product to a central storage?
Ty
The "gravity" on the cables was hard to do
There are some great scientific studies on human performance with a variety of display latencies if you're interested, but tl;dr there is significant improvement down to total latencies of under 15ms, let alone a single part of the chain adding an additional 15ms.
that would be funny but ADA vs GladOS sounds like rap battle of history or set up WWE match
would still watch tho
Neither. I build factories near the resources they use and dump the output into the depot
Yea it's tricky, that seems to work well tho
Thanks but im playing the ignorance card - i have no interest in 60+ fps, even if it supposedly has benefits
Xmas coming so its all gon be cake
no supposedly about it, there are a handful of huge ones
I have experienced 240 FPS and can never go back
Theoretically the sooner a frame is presented, the sooner you react, even if your reaction time is fixed
the most annoying for me is sample-and-hold motion blur, it's horrendous at 60fps π
Thankfully it is fixed by framegen, even if the game itself is locked @ 60.
Warning: playing the Ignorance card 3 times in a row risks incurring into penalties with other players
And I'm not even talking about the lower delay. The smoothness is just incredible
Why the "even if the game is locked" part?
Some games (like Factorio) are locked to 60fps and have horrible motion blur because of it. We can framegen it with an out-of-game program and reduce that motion blur by 80-90% with a high refresh rate monitor.
Sample-and-hold motion blur scales proportionally to framerate and to motion speed, so double FPS means half added blur etc.
You might get a more up to date frame when the panel refreshes, but you're still worst case waiting 16.67ms to get it. That's why these e-sports monitors have insane refresh rates these days, 480Hz or more
Fun fact! It's not. Running Factorio at double speed makes it run at 120 FPS

So apparently the issue I had where a train was just sitting at a green signal is a bug when they are on an incline and can sometimes just stop at a green?
or it was red and it didn't quite stop in time, looked like it had gone beyond it a bit... and then maybe just was confused
for the love of god ... can anyone tell me how they angled those pillars and walls at a 45 degree angle on the main menu? i think it's driving me insane figuring it out. building a massive 80x40 factory and i want to know how!
There is no bug. Just janky signal behaviour.
You had a path at the bottom of a slope and a block signal somewhere between where the train stopped and the path signal
The train sees the red signal ahead (the default state for path signals) and calculates where it needs to start slowing down to stop before it.
Because the signal is at the bottom of a slope, if the train is heavy enough, it might calculate that it can't stop on the slope, right before the signal, so it chooses to stop at the top, way before the signal
But the default state of a path is red. And it'll only turn green if the train requests a path and is granted that path. But the train won't even attempt to request a path unless the path is the next signal on its route
So if you have a block signal between where the train would choose stop for a red path and said path, the train deadlocks itself. It waits for the signal at the bottom to be green, but the signal at the bottom won't turn green untill the train goes past the block. Which it'll never do because that signal is after the spot it stopped at
What's the best way to fill a loop that uses canisters
Just load all of the machines with a stack?
Fill the blueprint
Then the machines get placed already filled
And if you built it properly (without using any splitters or mergers), then you don't even need a stack
10-20 should be enough
Assuming we're talking about DPF here (since that's the most common one)
For different loops, other designs might make more sense
Makes sense but it was stopped two signals back from the nearest path signal
#screenshots message
It's not a particularly heavy train, it happened when I wasn't logged in - when I logged in there was chaos. That little train had caused a massive tailback, blocked a busy intersection and two powerplants had gone offline XD
it doesn't matter how many block signals there are between the train and the path, other than whether it's 0 or more than 0. the path won't turn green until it's the next signal on the train's route. i.e. the train has passed the bottommost block signal. you could remove the top one, and all the other ones other than the last one and the train would behave exactly the same in that situation
and yes, 1 loco + 2 full(ish) wagons is heavy enough for this issue to appear on 2 m ramps
I understand how the path signals work. Either way what you were saying makes sense, but the bottom line is that it was stuck and caused chaos, I have moved the signals since that screenshot and haven't had any problems so far
I ditched the ones on the slope half way down and moved that one back onto the bend
think i figured out the pillar thing, by holding ctrl when placing... but yeah, i must stress that planning trains and and roads in this game is paramount, rather than just trying to build everything around your factory. still trying to figure out all the signal stuff myself, im just happy with my looping christmas tree trains π
how do I drop items?
I never put signals on slopes. up or down. I made that rule because I didn't want trains to attempt to go down a slope without being able to go all the way, because stopping on a slope seemed like it'd cause a massive slowdown. but thanks to that, I only stumbled on that path/block/down slope issue on reddit, not on my own train network π
drag them out of your inventory
Yea... Some of my slopes are extremely long and traffic-heavy so I really need signals on them, this has been the only one that has caused problems and it seems fixed now touch wood. I am trying to avoid signals on slopes too since this happened
#screenshots message
Lots of signals on that one (continues around the corner) but never caused trouble
yeah, the deadlock only happens when there's a path right at the bottom. put a long enough flat section before each intersection and it shouldn't cause issues
Yea that climb was just a bit tight but I should have left more flat... might redesign it at some point but fingers crossed all is well atm
I just unlocked coal, which has been so game changing, now i have time to fine tune my factory. I have a line producing everything up to reinforced plates but im having an issue stream lining the automation process, there is like 3-4 seconds between one plate finishing and another starting. I might be reading the constructer interface wrong. It says it takes 40 screws per min, is that based on the rate my screws are going into the machine or is that a BASE rate, the machine will always use 40 screws per min?
No more running around like a madman gathering twigs and leaves xD
if a machine says it consumes 40/min, then that's how much it'll consume when running. if you give it more, it'll fill up (and eventually stop accepting the excess). if you give it less, it won't run all the time and therefore produce proportionally less.
that's the maximum it can consume, if you supply less, you will get fewer plates out
the per min rate is how many need to be in the machine for it to start a cycle
They often don't start producing until there is almost double the required minimum amount in the buffer I find
so you need to feed another cycles worth into the machine while its running the current cycle
this is why large quantity recipes are not the best choice and an alt recipe that uses less per min is advuised
that puts any screw recipe HIGH on the replace list
no, they start if they have enough for 1 cycle. but the reason why it sometimes won't is because once a machine starts idling, it'll idle for at least 5 seconds (except constructors and converters, at least according to Docs)
I think i got it, it made my factory look ugly but it reduced the distance between part feeders AND attached tier 2 converyers and now the reinfrced plate machine has enough materials for 3 plates at any given time, it seems to have reduced the pause between crafting to 0 lol
Interesting.. Kinda makes sense although I've seen some idle for a lot longer than that when they have plenty to do a cycle
Woops nope that was excess backed up stuff lol
Hate. Let me tell you how much I've come to hate Stingers ever since I installed Satisfactory. Now, I'm no arachnophobe. I'm not scared of Stingers. They just... Infuriate me a little. But I still choose to not play with passive enemies. I mean, what's the point of it being an "enemy" then? But today was a little different. See, I really wanted to get the cast screw recipe, so I located a swamp with a few crash sites. But alas, they were guarded by alpha stingers. And they killed me. A few times. And I started to get a little mad. But when I finally outsmarted the Stinger, I went up to the crash site, and in big bold beautiful letters - "repairs needed". So I may have gone into creative and covered the entire swamp in nukes. And I beat the living crap out of any survivors. Let's just say I'm not going back to this world.
i still get impressed at the giant green ones leaping so high
I can recommend the "triple nuke" treatment for stinger hives. As far as the Swamp goes I can recommend for scorched earth technique - 750 nukes spread all around the joint. Push the button and watch the spiders enter orbit
where is the talking channel like general?
I wish the storage containers had more then 2 ports on them. I wish i could like have all my iron plates, rods, screws and basic things go into one contianer and then my assembly stuff can draw from that container but unless im misisng something the basic storage container doesnt do that lol
Here?
I might just be kinda oblivios but i dont even know why storage containers have an output when there is no way to control what comes out...is there?
You should never put a container in the middle of production
I havent, they are all at the end
So they can be used as buffers for trains and depots
And for temporary handfed production
And there is a way to control what comes out. Put in one type of item and only that one type of item will come out π
Just build more containers if you need more ports?
No, they want something like the Factorio warehouse/wagon mall
If you even know what that is XD
i posted a screenshot of my current set up, as ugly and ineffecient as it is lol
Shopping Mall xD
Yea every Factorio factory needs a megamall
And a weapons mall xD
But then the mall is usually connected to the logistics network, whereas in Satis the DD
Unlock the Dimensional Depot in the Alien Tech tree and you won't need these containers
HOLY CRUD, never mind. I just unlocked an alternite recipe for reinforced plates which is WAY better and easier
Now i have to redo everything ugh

Everybody loves a retrofit
I wonder which one that is
i saw how you build, ugly floating foundations, no decoration, no design
ur domain expansion is pretty strong have to say
I usually have supports under platforms, nothing really floats XD
I didn't describe my factory as an uninspired pile of brutalist trash for nothing XD
Yes yes yes
choo choo, indeed
I might build a train empire just cause
Trains are love, drones are sobbing
Lol
both is good
Drones sound cool, but in game they look less epic
None of my things float either.
I've developed some high-tech supports made out of high pressure air. They just have the small issue of being completely invisible π€·ββοΈ
I like the fancy trains with massive train stations
if bro tried to make an iglo it would be made from concrete, without a roof, and would be on a desert
its not fancy, but it is big
its a train depot like 1km long
Technically snowy areas can be considered a desert, so that's normalish at the very least
Damnn
thats just a regular tuesday at my aluminum factory hehe
What are the hotspots representing?
I've decided about 40 hours ago I'm not going for maximum efficiency anymore
I just want it to look super pretty and work well enough
Radioactivity xD
Oh
I just have a bunch of markers with dumb names lmao
Like "fat dumbass stinky bitch"
It seems there has been a breakout in morale at the factory, FICSIT informed, work hours doubled, shore leave cancelled XD
Also floating foundations....my worst nightmare....
I say as I have a railway bridge hanging over the edge of the map
Damn
"We are now passing the bridge, DO NOT....LOOK DOWN."
Places I've been. I leave behind a radioactive trail, like a slug, but worse
You must be a teleporting slug then
Sure, why not
I have so many to fix, but that's an easy 1-8 hour task, depending when I get to it
So I'ma focus on building first
Hoarding so much Uranium in your inventory that the radiation spills out
I love that meme of the different types of satisfactory players, like engineer, chef, etc etc
add frames as supports and pretend its no longer floating
https://discordapp.com/channels/370472939054956546/553550313533997057/1443012424532885676
I like how in any other game 8 hours is a lot but in this game it's like the baseline of any task minimum
Most of those hotspots are uranium sites, or trains carrying it to the nuclear plant
Yo that's INSANE
I am definitely an engineer, I build something think "oh this could could look nice" and then leave it unfinished aesthetically before moving to the next project
I'm striving to be a a builder type
Or train
Just train
I like sushi
So many of my buildings have just random walls and ceilings with holes in them because I've just decided, "yeah humanity needs me right now"
So you're training to become a builder type?
about a month of work if i include all the source stations, to make 4500 aluminum ingots/min
No. I embody train. Choo Choo become me
21 trains in-out total (iirc)
I like it. Very impressive!
I wonder how many trains I have
thanks
Not enough if that's the question you are asking
SCIM says I have 206 locos, but definitely not that many trains, many have 2 locos on them
If I make any more trains I'll need to make some changes to my rail infrasctructure
I saved humanity already, so I don't feel guilt when fiddling with colorful signs instead of listening to ADA
Good going, I'll check mine, I'm sure mine is less than that
I think I have roughly 110 trains give or take
Just a few
Microfleet xD
What's your longest one
I didn't realise I had that many lol oops
Not super long due to deadlock risks, longest is about 6 (2 locos, 4 cars)
How many km of track?
Oh yeah speaking of what does another loco do
179.25km
Yk maybe the giant suspension bridge over the void should've waited till I got the hoverpack
Oof. I'm at 103.4km
You can pull more freight cars steeper inclines
Ah that's cool
Still good xD
Probably would get stuck on a hill if it stopped xD
Half as much track as you, with twice as many trains, no wonder mine are chaos. So many signals to keep things from getting deadlocked
I have it all very flat or very small hills
Oh wow yeah I bet that's busy busy
Cause I don't like the inclines
I haven't had a need for signals yet but I did testing and mostly understand them now which is nice
Probably best because 1 loco hauling 12 full cars isn't going to make a 2m incline xD
I like spirals for inclines π
They aren't all full just yet but will be
once signals click you can design just about anything you want
i find it should actually be safer to have longer trains
If you stay flat, it works. You will notice that when you have inclines, 12 cars can be too much, depending on the incline. If you want to spoil yourself, there is a table on the wiki: https://satisfactory.wiki.gg/wiki/Freight_Car
But I know you don't want to do it, which is fine! Just for reference...
almost all of mine are 2+8 setup
My biggest issue so far was pipes, but that's cause it said it had power when it didn't π
less frequent trips = less traffic
all mine are 1+4, and it's proper chaos, some stations are visited by 6+ different trains
I just love watching them all scurry about like ants
My main base plastics/rubber offload has about 6 trains arriving yea
Yea mine all vary in length, I have many that are just 1 loco + 1 car
i like that my trains can chill for 10 minutes if they need, they have all the time in the world to get where they need to go
I have a few hubs that process a disgusting amount of stuff, managing all the signals was the fun bit
I usually also do the 1+4
if you get silly enough with it, even a 1+1 can do a 7 hour round trip xd
I was wondering about opinions or advice on my storage set up in screenshots
any towards storage, overflow towards sink? thats a standard setup
the merges and splits are whatever
found an alternate rotor too lol now i have to redo my entire set up lol. Worth it though, i only have one machine autoamting my reinforced plates and rotors but they produce in bulk π
Looks tidy
dont have to, you can make a new setup elsewhere
Last time I did a central storage like this, I made a long row of containers and splitted with intelligent splitters from one side to the other with a sink at the end. So its similar and should work with the mixed belt input.
Figured. Just didn't know if I was smart or overlooking something
Yeah but i dont have alot of stuff mapped out though
The trains having a top output will make doubling up vertically easier too
You don't have to redo it, just build a second factory and you have double the output!
Exactly! This is what I actually did. Two paths with two splitters vertically above each other, two sinks at the end.
Fast unloading, quick refilling.
But with the dimensional depot, I didn't do it again in my latest world.
I miight add a second floor, have basic stuff being produced on ground level and complex stuff above
Yeah, idk yet if I'm going to have refilling or not
I plan to make this new location my main area of operations
Which is why the train exists
Vertically thinking = Huge success
Taking stuff from my old area and working factories to my new area
I've mutilated my home base lol but the machines themselves are running still
Do you have a plan in mind for why you need the resources at your new area? Just asking.
the idea of having a main area is a trap imo, the whole map can be your area
Yeah but I don't want that
Cause I want to build parts that require plastic, I'm too lazy to ship plastic everywhere, and I think this area will look cool with multiple factories, trains and belts around it
Depending on the playstyle, yes. I did it this way always, had my stuff around the world. In my previous world from Update 4 to 8, I had a central storage though for getting resources for building new parts, with 1.0 and the dimensional depot, its not necessary anymore of course. And eventually, I want to connect everything ||with portals||.
i am no stranger to the idea of an industrial complex
It's also close to the red forest
Sounds legit!
Which I have more plans for
my strat is to build outwards, but then fill the gaps later with other factories
Red forest is nice, dangerous, but beautiful
my grass fields, crater area forms one big complex and i keep filling it out
nevermind that I just shipped every other part to the plastic rather than shipping the plastic to other areas lmao
BUT MY LOGIC STANDS
It's like programming software. As soon as you finished, you know how to do it better and could start from scratch again.
Totally normal.
i totally get the idea of having a lot of stuff in close proximity, it does look cool for sure
But yeah found it easier to ship the the parts I can make in bulk rather than the plastic I'm still learning to properly understand
plastic is an ideal candidate for shipping around though, usually need it in small amounts
I'm trying to go for a somewhat real look rather than insane impossible factories
Cause the closer to real the prettier it looks for me
For my space elevator parts, I needed some mix, a train station which unloads many resources, a programmable splitter array which distributes the stuff, and a complex industrial complex π₯ that builds the parts.
Not beautiful, but did the phase unlocking fast.
bet, i tend to work with smaller modules
True! I also am not a fan of the large megabases over water, is not genuinely working with the map
one building makes 1-2-3 things, ships elsewhere, and so on
circuit boards? one building. computers? another building that gets fed by the previous one
I did more modular in my previous world before 1.0 but since I finished phase 4 there, I wanted to quickly reach phase 5 in my 1.0 world, so I did some... quick and dirty solutions for quick unlocking.
Not that everything is unlocked, I can take my time and build serious.
i have been playing phase 4 for over a year now hehh, on and off
Yeah, I like building on the land and making nice buildings
From what I have seen, your buildings are well designed
Im hoping to be done phase 4 in like 300 hours, hopefully. If doable
Yeah, first building I actually tried on turned out awesome
I think in my current world (3rd), it took me around 140 hours to finish phase 5 and "end the game".
But as said, I tried to unlock quickly.
Yeah, I'm accounting for my building habits and just being new in general
So hoping I can do 300 hours, that gives me 175 left
i did all phase 4 milestones quickly, i honestly dont feel like i am missing any tools to build just about anything, other than better conveyors maybe
Totally fine and legit and moreover, knowing that you will have fun for many hours is simply great
but aesthetically i prefer mk5 conveyors to mk6 anyway
Why 175 left?
chat do i try and make a megafactory where i can produce everything
Cause I'm already at 125 hours
Everyone has different playing styles. Some people like to complete fast, some people like to complete slow π
Ah now I get it, yes
whats the hurry, enjoy the ride
complete fast do whatever after
some weird people play with sushi belts, some weird people crash the game on purpose, some weird people play it like it's factorio and don't build up for some strange reason
I remember a page where you could upload a save and see what item you produce too much or too little of, anyone know?
If you want to
eeh, idk, for me i think i might experience a drop in motivation once i hit the end, at least for a while
you'd be referring to SCIM's statistics panel (linked in #welcome )
if its your first time around, dont recommend it
say yes i want 2 but need orhers approval
So my first world had 81 hours until I stopped because Update 4 radically changed power generation and my factory building was more a learning process than a working condition.
My second world is where I took time, from Update 4 to 8, it has 296 hours and finished phase 4.
My third and current world is only at 171 hours yet but finished phase 5. I had not so much time this year to play.
I wanted to finish the phases quickly so that I can build for fun.
I'm glad I started after 1.1
you would have to plan out basically everything from the get-go, or suffer the consequences
I would have been so sad and annoyed fixing everything from updates
then see a therapist about that
It worked from Update 4 to 8 for me, but the earlier updates, from 2 to 3 ot 3 to 4 were huge. Also from 8 to 1.0 of course. Mostly because of recipe changes.
I started with Update 3.
certainly not, you need a reasonable idea of how to handle things, but far from planning everything
looks at 1.2 coming next year
i am dw
if they are here asking this, they do not have that
I have uploaded my save but can't seem to find where the chart is, can you point me?
I hope it doesn't break anything insane
they have psychological problems it seems, that doesn't mean there's no reasonable idea
I do my building backwards but it lets me build things better looking.
I build the building first then fill the interior
In early access any updates can break anything. The game is not in early access any more. 1.0 was the game release. After that, any updates will not break anything, only add things
π statistics
if you want to build a true megafactory, you have to start planning from the very end by nature of what a megafactory is
That's comforting
I often have space issues with this approach, but it doesn't work the other way round, lol
that's a very narrow conception of megafactory
they only asked for putting everything in one place which definitely doesn't require planning from the very end
you only need to plan enough to stop decisions you make at the start from ruining decisions you need to make at the end
Thank you! So above the middle line means you produce enough?
which really only calls for some organisation as to what goes where
I can live with space issues. Not enough space? Build another pretty building
i guarantee you that since they are here asking this, they do not have to experience to plan for it
and "one floor per product" is good enough for that
That's actually exactly why I'm building more around my oil plant, cause I made it too small to properly fit fuel production in it. So I'm building a fuel plant beside it
It doesn't take experience. Just a couple of simple ideas like "put each product on a separate floor" and "put the belt for each item in a row". That's all you need
Well to be fair, 1.1 already did some changes like the introduction of hypertube junctions that lead to a redesign of hypertubes in my case.
look for the thumbs up / thumbs down unless you wanna do math
at least that's how it's supposed to work. We'll see how it actually ends up.
-# and I'm hoping they break rocket fuel because it's way too good to be in this game
It's completely right what you say. It's this simple.
Any changes you made were your choice though. No existing hypertubes stopped working
That's how you mean it, okay fair!
Thats fairly recent
you underestimate what that can mean for a complex building in terms of actually building it from the perspective of someone new to the game, but sure
The whole point is that it's not complex. It's actually very simple.
take a look here #screenshots message
"i didnt leave enough space for the thing i wanted to do, now what"
that's an impossible situation if you follow the two ideas I laid out
Of the 13 days I've owned the game I've spent 5 days in game
there will always be more space on the floor for the thing you wanted, and there will always be more space for belts
my key point is it will severely limit how you build and is additional challenge on top of what a new player already has to deal with
That's a lot. So may I ask, is the game... satisfactory... for you, so far?
you think of it as a limitation, but it's not a limitation, it frees you
Yeah lol
you can make whatever choices you want in the knowledge that you're not locked into them
Don't overdo it, some people tend to burn out from this game afaik.
because you know exactly where the other items should go and it's clear how to not tread on your own toes
Nah
agree to disagree, to me its definitely a limitation
This game is awesome, I won't burn out until at least final phase
well
Cause I keep getting new stuff
in terms of architecture
even if it is limiting, limitations can make things simple and the factory I've linked is not complex at all
Trains easily give me another 100 hours before burnout lol
1 floor per product, belts organised in two rows, that's it (don't even need the two rows, one row would work fine)
Like a 5 year olds first train set
it was a very easy megafactory to build
if anything it was too easy and maybe a bit boring
was about to say its perhaps boring
you assume they think like you, thats not necessarily true
I don't disagree, but also, if I say "it's easy if you follow these rules" and then you don't follow those rules, whatever outcome you get is on you ;p
its certainly a way to build, if all you care about is production, cant argue with that
dumb question but if i have 3 mk5 belts murging into one shouldent the though put go up by adding in the extra items ? i ask as im feeding 3 lines of screws into one belt , but the though put never exceeds 480 and cant figure out why.
Is there a Mk.4 belt hiding inside the merger?
this has to be it
do u ever use other belts other than best ones available
Doesn't have to be inside the merger. Just has to be somewhere between the merger and the next belt attachment (splitter/merger/machine). Or it could be machines that consumes 480
ill double check though thought i upgraded them once i got mk4 but maybe im blind of one some where lol
I would recommend to disassemble the merger, then you should see it
I only use a slower belt if the fastest belt I have is mk2. I can't be bothered to automate them properly without having access to better alts/belts, so I use mk2s where I absolutely need to. But from mk3 upwards, I always use the fastest belts I have access to
It's quite a common problem for there to be a tiny bit of slower belt inside mergers and splitters when upgrading
not much to remove , basically i have 2 production lines at mk5 one is sending the 480 then i have another 480 line im trying to add to it , im murging directly at the end of each manifold so i might delete the manifolds and rebuild with mk5 even though i upgraded all the belts
Often happens when you plop the merger onto an existing belt, and then upgrade either side of it
or if you're like me and have splitter/merger BPs with belt stubs coming out of them for auto-connect
but I never upgrade belts so π€·ββοΈ
Remove the merger and all the belts and reconnect them fresh, should solve it
belt mk2 is one of those things that makes early game annoying
you can quite easily automate plates fast enough to use mk2s everywhere but just... why? Why spend so much time on it when you can do it in half the time later? Why use so much biomass on it when you don't really need it?
I spent like an hour last night making the worst conveyor + pipe spaghetti to fuel 8 fucking coal generators
Worlds most complex 8 coal plant? xD
Did you have fun doing it? That's the only qualifier of whether it was a success or not
it might be because you only took an hour to do it
It was funny when me and the person I was playing with stepped back and realized how fucked up it was
Should be at least 1 hour per coal generator... 8 of them is a working day xD
I figured it would be easier to get the coal to each generator if the splitters went from above the pipes down to each generator
I mix it up, sometimes the pipe is above, sometimes below
I mean it works, but it looks good awful
granted, I could probably do it in 30-40 minutes and build it relatively cleanly, but the first few times you build something like this it often takes time to do it properly
Screenshots or it never happened
Oh yeah I saw those.... dem belts are exotic AF bro
Kinda trippy
Never thought a coal plant could make me feel seasick xD
i think conveyor lift is a joke to him
which is interesting to see dont get me wrong
it has its charm
Definitely has charm +a sickness towards lifts xD
would u be this creative knwoing what u now now? no
...I forgot about those
My plebianbrain and creativity are like trying to run a windows program on Linux... not compatible
Turn it off and on again
shutting down
highly recommend, one of better items in game unironicaly
Are the foundations above to hide the inner workings of the belts
They were just to give the conveyor a platform to be on
So when you look at the plant from outside you think what a neat and tidy well organised plant with definitely no spaghetti belting anywhere to be found what a great setup
logi floor revolution and its consequences for society
Consequence for a pioneer, might get stuck in the belly of the belted beast
Yeah, but it gets exponentially more mentally ill as you get closer
You could enclose the entire plant in a gigantic box... Nothing at all to see here folks... Just an empty box.. move along
AAAAAAAA... I mean... that's scary.
Domain Expansion: Floating Platform
Cursed Technique: Orange Boxification
You called?
REVERSE TECHNIQUE: ECUMENOPOLIS
Yes, surround it with so many machines and things nobody would ever cast a gaze upon a measly coal plant
ha found it, had a random mk4 belt hidden under a mk5 belt that was not hooked up . like where the heck that come from lol
Happens more often than you think xD
I am sorry your nick name was perfectly fitting my response. Thank you for your sacrifice.
i was there, i witnessed every single one of them, because it was me
That's crazy talk. There are better options than mk6 if we're maxing
Factory Carts on Mk.6 belts
Factory Cart vs Belt 6 is like Kung Fu Panda vs Tai Lung
not even close π£οΈ π’ π₯
yall is there a way to find the 3d models of all the machines items and conveyors and shit like that inside the files?
-# now giving you the mental image of zoos having to artificially inseminate factory carts because they too lazy to mate
yes. pop on the modding discord and ask about fmodel.

<3 @leaden turret
yo
can anyone please help me with my turbo fuel power plant
anyone that is realy good with it
i seriously need help
#1038092680493801533 is probably a good starting point, as you'd be able to post screenshots of your setup
i would rather want someone to join me yknow
i dont like to wait right now because its kinda urgent
then that'd be #1201555265942724758 but you'd probably have to wait longer than going into #1038092680493801533
too lazy? that doesn't sound like the factory carts I know!
factory carts don't require fuel, so unlike pandas they're less prone to sit doing nothing but nomming on bamboo all day
as a mid game should i use as much nodes as i can to the maximum?
so i just started building on a flat world, and the difference in performance is staggering. guess that environment and landscape is really what is doing most of the cooking on my gpu. this is really nice for big building
great !
By midgame the extra power cost from overclocking miners, etc is pretty minimal so there's no real downside to doing it. You also aren't really likely to run out of resources on a normal save though so it's kind of up to you
capitalism it is then, thank you !
you will have more resources than you need so you dont need to use all of them,
ooooooh i gt it
thats really true
i didnt need an incased industrial beam factory and ive gotten beyond what i need exploring
You want to work towards getting faster at exploiting new nodes, that can be with overclocks, blueprints and or faster recopies
about blueprints im getting kinda confused i didnt really learn them yet
I think you also want to consider what you want to make locally and what you want to bring in. industrial beam is just concrete and Iron and only used in HMF
but my biggest problem is smelting
make a blueprint of 8 smelters
oooo
with all the belts, splitters and mergers and go from there
yes yes
Not much relevant how you use nodes. If you use e.g. 1200/min in total, you've still used 1200 out of the world max, no matter if it's from one node or five
im gonna be importing quartz sam sulfur and caterium, most of the other nodes such as iron copper and limestone are cool
i dont understand
whats the world max?
there are many ways to play make it your own
you will just face different challenges
how much you can mine from the world at once, basically if you maxed all nodes
sir yes sir π«‘
that would be a lot lot lot
yeah, unless you try really hard, you won't really run out of resources, so I wouldn't bother with "maxing a node"
use how much you need, don't limit yourself to maxing a node
understood.
Most people when building in an area will max out the node before moving to the next node,
Comes in handy for the more rare nodes, or if the next copper iron or x node is 100s to 1000s of meters away
oohhhhh
because i have a caterium node nerby, figured out pumping out 300 ingots a minute is cool until i saw a roadblock for smelting them
plus i dont need, so its sitting
and bout meters, i honestly have no idea when to use a truck or a train or a tractor, they all seem to have different purposes yes and i feel like investing in trains directly is best for me
all until i stabilize my fuel and power supplies
I would use belts honestly
Diagonal track on foundations fills me with the dread from 1000 worlds
You can have rail on 45* angles and be on grid
Getting things aligned at the start is proving tricky xD
I use foundations like a checkerboard diagonal
And the triangles to make it straight
Trucks are still in beta if you ask me
Yea I'm aiming for the crosses where the foundations join, just the start is a bit... wobble xD
It's a disaster, going to abandon and go right angles xD
I havent played since 1.0, is the constructor's animation still not fixed or is my save broken?
right angles are overrated π
Problem with diagonal is I can't align it to the 45
One notch left or right puts it slightly off
then don't do 45 either
do "any angle I need" π
xD
There's like a black box that teleports through the constructor. I think my save is broken
Yea I haven't seen that before
#screenshots message
"Close enough"
Bit of a wiggle going on
can't you just place rails starting and ending at the 45* angle?
if you stop doing foundations on a grid, you'll have much easier time π
that has worked for me in the past
Yea probably lol
no, you build a completely disconnected section at 45*, then just continue it. shouldn't require any rotation afterwards
this has definitely worked for me, but the last time I did diagonal rails was in U6. Maybe they messed something up in 1.1 or anywhere in-between
Hmmm yea that's a good idea.. I forget what it was like in U6, and I probably didn't do any diagonals back then either tbh
Better than th is situation, there is a perpetual small left/right wiggle
Does everything respawn? I am pretty positive ive gotten a harddrive from the same looking crash site in the same spot twice in a row.
how to play multiplayer
Hard drives are not supposed to respawn; in the past there have been some game bugs which have made hard drives respawn, but it's unintentional
Foliage you destroy (via hand-gathering, chainsawing, or explosives) likewise does not respawn -- the only foliage which respawns are nuts and berries (assuming that the original plant is left behind and all you did was harvest the items)
Ok good to know its not intentional so i dont end up looking to rely on it, ever since i leanred two game changing altertnative recipes im determined to find more hard drives
Yeah, alt recipes are great; I recommend collecting 'em all. :)
Like, ive pretty much forgotten my factory at the moment lol
And while you're at it, you get spheres+sloops+DNA, so well worth the expeditions!
just finished phase 3 ;D
Im assuming you can only learn some ofthe alternative options, like i had a chance to learn alternative rotors or say alternative copper wires, when you pick one of those two you never get to get the alternative
there are more drives you can find than there are alt recipes
You will do on another roll in future
As the others noted, eventually, you will unlock all alternative recipes. You only chose "for the moment".
Imagine if taking one recipe locked you out of the other forever
no, if you pick one, the other one can be rolled later. You can get all the recipes
at least there would finally be reason to ask which recipe to pick
That would be death
Imagine getting HOR and DF on the same drive
And then you reacan to not lose either and now it's both recycled
DPF for the rescue
save scumming would become the norm π
wait can water stop flowing in a while without a pump
like if it is just on stable ground no uphills or downhills
Shouldn't do but you might get slosh
pump only gives headlift (how high the fluid can go), otherwise water should reach anywhere (again, assuming enough headlift)
If you have a kilometer long pipe, it won't hurt to put a pump or 2 on it
But if it's a few hundred meters, it really shouldn't matter
more of a hundred meter pipeline
Yea I had to put a pump on a long pipe around my nuclear plant
Flow just dropped to zero after a while
Nuclear plant !!!! There is nuclear energy!!!! Wow this is so cool I am still at coal
Also geothermal!
And with enough dedication and decorating skill you could make a building which looks like it's producing hydroelectric power but actually isn't because that's not in the game!
<- coming in with the helpful suggestions today, apparently
Hide some coal generators inside the dam... voila
Or an imitation of wind turbine, or a scaled copy of whatever other energy-producing thing.
Yea xD
If it was going over the terrain then height is hard to estimate, might have exceedes the previous head lift.
Otherwise it might just take a long while to fill and ramp up to speed
It was entirely flat on foundations apart from a teeny rise towards the end to go over a belt
As soon as I plopped the pump things got moving but maybe if I waited longer it wouldn't be needed
another proof that pumps solve all problems
or just placebo effect xD
That little bump does affect things a lot. means the entire pipe before it has to fill completely without a pump to help it
what are the odds of getting cooling systems from the lizard dogs? i have gotten like 40 so far from them
More of an effect than I estimated yea
are smart splitters worth it?
Yea
anyone able to help me with highway designs? with/without train rails
both 1 and 2 lane inc/oncoming
hardest thing for me to come up with a design for, for absolutely no reason
If you have one at the start of your production flow and set one of the outputs to overflow, you can automatically sink any excess that isn't being used
the wiki has a list of all the items you can get and their chances
Nice, I finally got modeler to accept my recycled rubber/plastic production. I'm getting better at this thing.
This might sound crazy but I'm not producing enough nuclear waste
haha
you need pre-nerf doggos to help you farm extra
Yea I remember some weirdness with nuclear at the end. I ended up not using some of the alt recipes.
Not reprocessing enough Plutonium xD
For sure XD
If I was to ever make a mod, I'd make construction doggos. Instead of giving you random items, they'd build random buildings. You'd just be zooming through your factory and whoa hang on where did that new particle accelerator come from
How many train cars can I have before I start needing to worry about going up hills?
4 wagons to 1 locomotive
though that depends on the hill too
4:1 is safe for 2m ramps
Ah right ty. Yea a smaller incline can handle more wagons, also inertia is a thing so if you have a big downhill it can go up a bit higher. I'd rather just not worry about it though.
just skyroads it so everything is perfectly flat then you only ever need one locomotive
what's funny/sad is i don't skyroad things, but even trying to 'follow the terrain' the clipping that happens if you try to send anything down an area that isn't a natural path is so bad i end up paving over everything anyway...
#dev-streams message I think he forgot the "repent vehicle-less sinners for the kingdom of factory carts is at hand!" part of the end being nigh
yeah it can be tough unless you're leaving lots of space
So is that very south western part of the map.by the waterfalls ...Just basically a spot where you could build a big ass factory
I ran around it until I hit the don't go here message and it's pretty big area
it's for rest and quiet meditation
it sure does!
As long as there is power
I'm filling out all I can on my fuel gens then going to figure out this aluminum stuff. Figure I'll need a bit of power
im soon to be stuck in to aluminium
i first need to set up my quartz, plastic and rubber stuffs tho once ive set up a highway
you're both amazing talented people and I believe in you to do great things with aluminum
lies
I would never lie about aluminum or your obvious greatness
the entirety of aluminium gives me nightmares that keep me up at night
Someone said sloppy alumina and pure alum ingot help with the setup is this true?
Depends if you want to use silica or not. That's how you'd cut out silica from the setup
can train carriages partially empty their boxes
I think I need to automate Ai limiters , circuit boards , and high speed connectors ...seem like I need more of those now lol
i slapped AI limiters in with my quickwire
is there a bug or why do i keep falling out of the hypertube?
Hmm take my quick wire to copper or bring copper to quick wire π
i have iron wire it was brilliant
Oh I wonder if I have that one...π€
cuz i had an iron node like right next to my caterium
gonna be making use of iron wire for my crystal oscilators soon
I have silicon circuit board so that one's easy ...
Now .
Lhogh speed connectors...
Well I.can haul quick wire over to my other spot on a conveyer and make all three in same area.
Only 15 days until the year of the factory cart starts. Is everyone pumped?
fiinding new nodes to make a new batch of resources for something has helped me, too. if i need steel, but also iron and copper, ill make a new copper smeltry and truck it over to whereever the steel stuff is since itll have iron there too
rather than taking what i have already being have from my copper stuff for my own use
that way i can get whatever wire, cable, copper psheets i need for building off of impure nodes and save the good nodes for hgiher products
Can I use blueprint to copy a factory that I have already built? (assuming it fits)
Yeah I should do that but I'm lazy lol
ive gotten lucky with my positioning and most nodes are in relatively close proximity where im just happy to take it over with a long pipe for water or a longer conveyor, but crystal oscilators is the first thing i would prefer at truck distances
I did build power and basic parts on the east coast when I went running around last week
so now im starting a highway with hypertubes for the sake of getting around then personally quicker
and for my first truck
I have one truck and 1 train lol
and ill probably try to find a way to put rails above the highway, assuming i can make it look good, junctions are hard...
might do it seperately. i need to put alot of time into being comfortable with a highway design lol
i also want to have the big power towers along it
Once I setup.my eastern power I booked up thoae towers along the coast until I met my furthest power station
my stuffs just running off of poorly placed power poles..
So I have power from west oil islands to coal on the east coast
i want to clean it up, especially since i like ziplining sometimes
zipline + a good fuel in the jetpack is quite fun
Yes it is.
i recently set up regular packaged fuel
straight into an inter depo
since i dont really have anything else for it, my trucks will prob run off coal? ill figure out if thats a bad idea
Packaged biofuel is bets for jetpack I think
i want to have a packaged biofuel setup eventually
but regular will do me for now, i can finally stop worrying about solid biofuel
i usually use the hoverpack tho
Yeah it's so nice now that I have it lol
what u guys want for 1.2 ?
nerfed RF
Pilotable drones.
wall mountedd splitters/mergers might be nice
hi
is there a shortcut that lets me delete a stack of items (or all of that item type like when you hold ctrl) in my inventory without dragging it to trash bin
when im decommissioning my old factorys i always find it incredibly annoying
I know this doesn't actually address your question as-written, but you could always just not decommission your old factories
Why take the time to do it? Just leave 'em and build new instead. :)
(To answer the question more directly: I don't think so? Though at least now I believe dismantle crates get consolidated into a single crate, so you could always make use of that to streamline things a bit)
how do you rotate the pipeline junction in vertical direction? with scroll i just move horizontal
snap to pipe
oh yeah thats it thanks
