the system was originally designed for a facility I called a ReTMINWaFN Plant or Remotely Throttleable Modular Input No Waste Full Nuclear Plant. it allowed me to basically throttle how much power was being made.

this was back before the nuclear recipes were changed and 252 was the max uranium plants you could have with full waste disposal. now its more complicated with the recipes as well as FFRs.

Yes, but you can't change the weight of each resource so it's not very effective for this job. You still have to manually compare each recipe for each item/step.
if you want something where you can choose what recipes are being used, how much resources you want to use, how much of something you want to make then use tools
if you want to do all that but plan the production line and compare recipes and stuff use modeler

copper is a lategame bottleneck, iron isn't, so basically all such projects will use iron for rotors. It's just a consequence of inaccurate weighting which you can't modify

to fit your neck through the bottle, make it out of iron because more iron = wider bottle
any large amount of nuclear pasta will drain the world's copper VERY quickly

Tools will use the iron recipe, but it will spend every single unit of copper on the map first, and leave you with 0 copper left and 30,000 iron left - so you have to pre-plan everything that you're going to build in the world before placing a single building, within a single Tools tab, for it to use the "correct" recipe in that case. Otherwise you'll find yourself tearing up copper rotors to build iron ones when you need another 200 copper.
If we could change the weighting for iron and copper it would be easy fix

My next factory will make 5 modular engines a min and then 1 of the other things
sftools and Modeller are very different apps with different usecases.
sftools is a solver/calculator. Plug in what you want to produce (plus recipes+inputs you want to use) and it'll optimize for resource uses. Doesn't intend to help you plan/model your physical factory, though.
Modeller is a planner/modeller. Can use it to plan out your factory/factories in detail, if you want, but it's not good at being a quick solver/calculator on its own
But I only need 5 circuit boards for it and 10 motors a min iirc

Even if they're fed nothing but truth they can still hallucinate invalid outputs. LLMs have their uses, but producing facts is not one of them. Every fact they give you must be fact-checked if you want to rely on it, at which point you're better off without the LLM in the first place

Seems like small potatoes to me. Nodes are unlimited so I never worry about it but I guess it matters for stuff like spheres and whatnot

Hi there, my steam cloud save overwrote my current game files and replaced them with files with only 4h of playtime... is there a way to still recover the newer game files?

Steel rotors are nice too, same components as stators
And since you'll be doing tons of pipes, Moulded Steel Pipes are nice
Or go Iron Pipes and Iron Wires, eschew steel altogether (you'll just need more iron)
Or, if Crystal Oscillators are available, Rigor Motor is pretty nice too.
But since it's your first one, that won't be the one.

If you get rid of the copper rotors part of it, you can probably use a more round number.
without copper its 277 to make 5 motors... but Looking at it I should still plug in two lines anyway because I will need both rotors and stators for other stuff.
Primarily rotors, for Assemblers and Foundries.
Stators for space elevator, so need some overflow there as well 😄
Oh yeah, for Automated Wiring
But at that rate, build a different factory just for that
That way you can get your motors without overwhelming yourself.

You can find two iron nodes close enough to each other and use levelers/balancers
Besides, you'll upgrade past that soon enough.
Or, if you insist on keeping copper in it, use regular Wire recipe, it's actually more efficient than Iron Wire (5:10 compared to 5:9)
Then you use less iron and make more use of the copper, everybody wins.
If you can feed your smelting manifold in the "center" vs "one end or the other" you can double your current belt throughput without having to add additional "separate" belt routing
AND if you use lifts for your inputs reconfiguring the input after belt upgrades is MUCH faster and simpler 🤷 Options options, so many options
I ❤️ lifts cuz splitters and mergers autosnap and connect to them like glue vs. belts... belts be like: "OH you want me to reconnect? Nah bruh... that sounds like work" 😆
Stacking splitters on lifts is how I get grouped manifolds. Main through line on the top, branches off down the lift to another splitter that feeds 3 machines at once.

Belts seem to snap to intervals on the world grid it seems, when you deviate from it, it does some wacky things, but it can be fixed by putting splitters on the middle of the belt, deleting the end bit and running it further until you get it where you need it
This "slightly bend the belt" seems to only be related to the straight build mode 🤔 I usally end up switching build modes to "fix" the unpleasing effect. Maybe it's just a sign that there is a grid misalignment issue somewhere? 🤔
It makes using the blueprint designer itself actual hell

200h in, just learned that conveyors lifts auto-snap to containers's I/Os, without any additional belts. Damn, my logistics could have been so more simpler.... 😭

Imo, peruse the pipeline manual and experiment. I've never personally experienced that "new" junction thing, but then again, I am so "ocd" that I have always used junctions as if the "welded" portions were the "junctions" and between the welded portions is the "main line". Yeah, its most likely due to the lift not being parallel to the splitter/merger. Imo, place a pole 4m in front of the lift, belt to it, then to splitter/merger.

hi, if i can ask a follow-up - am I maybe doing the 'Wrong Way' in designing factories? What I was thinking of doing is designing a floor that can take say 60 units/minute of its needed inputs, and produces Y units/minute of its output. As miners and belts scale up, to go from 60 to 120 input and Y to 2Y output, I would just copy/paste the existing facility as a new floor on top. But those ground floors typically have say 8ish buildings in them, and are much too big for blueprint designer. Are my floors too big?

what you're doing is fine but just a heads up trying to futureproof/upgrade everything as soon as you get new stuff is generally going to be very slow, so its probably better to just build with whatever you have and then once you have everything upgrade it all at the end of your playthrough when you have mk6 belts and mk3 power poles and all the power shards you could dream of

high floors isnt really an issue, its a good idea to future proof for next phase, you'll use big buildings
if you have to build with floors just do what other people are saying and have a floor dedicated to refining, tier 1 recipes, tier 2 recipes, etc
high floor only matters for fluid.. and that again only matters if the fluid is meant for power generation (late game fuels are gases which donlt have that issue)
and of course dont forget to glitch your conveyor lifts to any length by snapping them into floor holes
(to go full circle: conveyor lifts do in fact get as long as 196m.. much longer if you want)

the Megaprinters blueprint designers also have tall versions that are just as tall as they are in width and depths, so you should have no problem putting multiple floors into them. Also, the blueprints work once they have been saved even without the mod loaded. Alternately, you could just keep the floors as separate blueprints and drop them as you need them.

probably the entire run if you're not maxing out other stuff
even when going for fairly large numbers factories dont tend to use over 1000 aluminum unless you want them to, and the factories that go that high will be very few in number

I think that way of putting mergers etc is intentional

Batteries, rocket fuel basically identical in properties and ease of production imo.
Batteries have slightly less overall energy, so you'll use more of them, but they are cheaper and easier to make than RF, also why not burn the RF?

Made my first "real factory blueprint" for 20x Reinforced Iron Plates using only Mk.2 belts 😆 was WAY more involved than I thought it was gonna be. I wanted it remain modular and expand to a max MK.6 manifold with all parts though so... kind of made it harder for myself
